My kids LOVE Little Einsteins!.......2007-06-07
All of this series is wonderful! My children love them and they are educational to boot! Would definitely recommend the entire series.
Good shows.......2007-05-14
My daughter loves Little Einsteins. She learns so much from watching them. The only problem with their movies, is that they are repeat shows from television and then usually 1 new episode, which after I purchased this was out on TV within a month or so. Wish they would have a new actual movie like there first one, the Huge Adventure.
very good.......2007-05-08
My daughter learn alot on this dvd, such as counting and singing too.
Golden Pyramid here we come!!.......2007-04-29
I have seen this episode on the Disney Channel before. Although it is not my personal favorite, I too have learned some interesting tidbits from watching all of the episodes. My daughter is only 10 months old and has been watching it since she is- 2 months old!
My husband told me that they watch TV together in bed on Saturday morning while I am at the gym, and that she seemed mesmerized. I went out and bought the DVD's and would play them for her while she was in her swimg. Sure enough, at about 3 months she was laughing at the characters!
Another amazing program by a fantastic company. My friends tease me that I listen to the videos even when Kate is not in the car!

In Japan cartoons and animated features do not encompass fantasy or slapstick personification of animals, but instead delve into the wondrous serendipity and the dark purposes of human interaction. Kite is a prime example of their expression within this genre. With its darkly disturbing La Femme Nikita-style story line, this film begs to be more than the 45-minute event that it is, rivaling the live-action works of Luc Besson and even John Woo. The story involves a college student, Sawa, whose family was brutally murdered. Sawa is adopted by Mr. Akai, the police detective investigating the case, and a twist occurs when we find that Mr. Akai has trained and utilized Sawa as an assassinating angel of vengeance to eliminate the undesirables able to slip through the net of the legal system. In the undertaking of one of these missions, Sawa meets Oburi, another orphan trained like her for the same purpose, and she is placed in the classic position of having to make a life-changing decision. Insights into the truth about Sawa's past are revealed through abstract flashbacks as the film progresses at maniacally breakneck speed, with intense gun battles and blood and guts galore. Kite is exquisitely animated by Yasuomi Umetsu and accompanied by a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack composed by An Fu, and the only flaw is that it could have been expanded by exploring more of its profound emotional revelations. --Hector V. Barrientos-Bullock
Description
Sawa may seem innocent and naïve, but don't be fooled. She's a cold-blooded killer, and if you're on the wrong side of the law, you may be her next target. Not content to just watch as the imperfect justice system frees more criminals each day, a detective trained Sawa to be his instrument of justice. Now she will go to any length to execute her targets.

Kite.......2007-06-12
I haven't seen this movie yet. From what reviews I've read it is a must see. It is a shame that Kite is less than fifty minutes. I've learned recently that this movie was cut down because of its subject matter. I think this was an unwise move. This movie should only be purchased by people 18 years and up. I think there should be a voting poll posted on this site and on any anime site where you can buy this movie. We should have the option of buying this movie in its full uncut 90 minute to 100 minute version. From what a friend told me, the movie was cut in half down to the 45 minutes that you see now. I know when any movie is edited it takes away from the storyline.
If anyone knows were to purchase this uncut, unrated extended version for a good price let me know. I want to be the judge on how bad or good this movie really is.
Just as good as Mezzo but still just like Mezzo: edited version=good action plus plot development.......2007-06-11
First and foremost Amazon doesn't sell the unedited version of Kite. So, I should say don't bother looking here since the edited version leaves out the huge sex scenes that are, in this anime movie, crucial to the plot and character development but there is a catch to one of the sex scenes as they include an 11-13 year old ,Sawa (the main character). Other than that, I enjoyed this movie, unedited. It has good action with lots of gore, blood, and sex scenes. Another thing I liked about it was the variety of symbolism. Such as Sawa's earrings. One thing I disliked about this movie was the voice dub. The dub could have been better. It seems for hentai shows or movies they always get the mediocre actors. So, all in all, if you are not comfortable with sex scenes, hentai in general, animated cp, or a little more blood and gore. Then invest your money in the edited version. If none of those things bother, then invest your money and time in the unedited version.
If hentai was more like this, then I would gladly watch more.
Solo para adultos.......2007-05-25
Una excelente película en la cual se destaca la fluidez de la animación, los personajes tienen conflictos internos y motivos ocultos. Espere al final un giro inesperado en la trama.
Recomendada sin lugar a dudas
OUCH!!! ...And I thought "ARMITAGE III" was bad!.......2006-09-02
*
It's a rare anime feature that moves me to rate it with the lowest marks possible, but this one accomplished the once-thought impossible!
The premise sounds intriguing enough: A girl left orphaned after the double homicide of her parents is taken in (in more ways than one) by a couple of psychos with vigilante desires who groom her to become their instrument of assassination. Their targets tend to be high-profile members of society & public figures who have a tendency to stay just enough out of reach of the law to prevent being legally apprehended and paying the necessary penalties for their criminal misdeeds (child sexual abuse and related activities being high on their list). But suspicion mounts that she may be just being manipulated like a puppet and that the people she's being instructed to kill (all men, of course) may not necessarily be everything she is being informed that they are.
Unfortunately, the execution (no pun intended) of the story & action, the lack of character development, the limited (almost non-existent) background & motivational information on the girl's "mentor(s)", the totally contrived plot devices, and the highly & irritatingly irrational action sequences (extremely absurd even by typical "anime" standards) makes this feature-length OAV the biggest animation TURKEY I have ever had the privilege(?) of viewing. Even the (very lame) "fan service" scenes cannot make up for its lack of interesting story and action. (Apparently, this is not the true "unrated" version as indicated, since reviewers make references to more graphic & disturbing "hentai" scenes. Still doesn't change my opinion of the whole thing, however.) Okay, I'll admit that it scores a couple of minor points for its visuals & animation, but that's about the only thing of any material substance I can come away with from this loser. In essence, if anime features were rides at the carnival, "KITE" would be the merry-go-round -- without any accompanying lights or music.
Normally, something clocking in at only 45 minutes would get a point for "fair consideration" from me because of the feature's not being given enough time to really allow an indepth story to unfold (e.g., "PLASTIC LITTLE," which I actually like, despite its oversaturation of needless "fan service" which serves no purpose), but I give NO such consideration for "KITE" -- I believe that any additional amount of time given to this animated drama would have made it only that much worse than it already is.
Not an outright "zero-stars" junker, but I cannot in all good conscience rate it anything higher than a "one-and-a-half" at best.
Promising, but the ending ruined the movie........2006-08-07
To be honest, I found this movie because of the hentai, then decided to buy it for the same reason. While the action and hentai was alright, I followed the story pretty well.
But towards the end I was getting excited, I was thinking "Awesome, after all of that, I wonder what the outcome will be like." and next thing I know I find myself depressed and confused at the ending. I understand that it's a dark movie and it was suppose to end dark, but you'd figure after the characters went through so much that they would at least deserve some kind of peace or happiness. Instead you're left wondering what happen after the movie ended. (Although you can probably come to some conclusion as to what happen.) But it's still annoying to sit through all that for basicly nothing.

Thoughts of His Purpleness parading around in a Speedo shouldn't deter you from picking up Barney's Beach Party. Despite the dorky dance numbers and stiff dialogue (would it be Barney without them?), the made-for-video show ends up among the sugarcoated series' most palatable. It could be just the scenery, but the star seems more freewheeling in the fun-in-the-sun setting. He shows off a silly hat, slathers on the sunscreen, leads the gang on a sailing expedition, hunts for seashells, chills out with some icy creamy ice cream, flies a kite, builds a sandcastle, assembles s'mores, and even shimmies into a grass skirt for hula lessons. Best of all for dino diehards, Beach Party is a fiesta for DVD/video eyes only--50 minutes of fantasy rays you can't catch on the tube. When they're this harmless, you might as well let your preschooler lounge around and soak up every second. --Tammy La Gorce

Why the hell would you have a song on ice cream???
Every time my 2 year old sees it, he wants us to get him ice cream. I thought this was so stupid on the part of the makers of the barney company.
Why couldnt they sing a song on cucumber or veggies?

Best Barney Ever.......2005-11-08
This is the best Barney video to date! It's one of the few that doesn't annoy the grownups! It has catchy songs, pretty scenery and lots to keep little Barney enthusiasts completely entertained. It may not have extra DVD features but the movie itself is worth buying! A must have for Barney lovers.
Good movie overall, but bad message about eating healthy foods.......2005-08-08
This movie is fine, and my son was very entertained (20 months old), but one thing bothered me about it. There is a scene when they talk about eating fruits and vegetables, and then they decide that those are bad and that ice cream is better. Not to be a stickler (my son loves ice cream as much as the rest of them), but it makes fighting the battle of vegetables even harder when Barney doesn't back you! There are other videos (like the zoo one) where they make fruits and veggies fun, but this one dropped the ball.
No chapters, no menu.......2005-04-07
I have three children and all three have loved Barney videoes and DVDs. So, I'm intimately familar with the content of these products. We have several Barney DVDs and this one is the absolute worst as far as usability. The content itself is fine; however, there is no way to fast forward through the ads or the movie because there are no chapters!! For the price of this DVD, I would expect these basic features. The only other DVD I have without these features I got for free in a kids meal! The first time my youngest sat down to watch this DVD she cried for the first 5 minutes because she was expecting to see Barney, not ads for Kipper and Bob the Builder! I would recommend "Lets Play School" instead. Also, check the bargain DVDs at Walmart. I found "Musical Scrapbook" for $5.50 there and guess what? It has chapters and a menu.

what a pathetic and miserable era.......2007-06-10
in this film, we saw people got to salute to chairman mao first before doing everything. when they got the approval to get married, they got to salute to chairman mao first. but before they could have gotten married, the wedding ceremony had to be postponed, because the great spiritual guide and the greatest comrade, joseph stalin was suddenly dead. so they got to postpone the wedding 10 more days for the national mourning period. under the tight control of the chinese communist party, people were like product out of the same mode. when you looked around, slogans in big words were all over the places. loud speakers were installed every strategic place, brainwashed you day and night....
'the blue kite' was a film silently exposed the cruelty and tediousness of the chinese people during mao's era. no wonder this movie was banned later in china, the director and the production team were all punished and indicted as 'counter revolutionists', 'anti-revolutionists', one of the '5 black categories' members, 'the big poisonus grass'.
when you watch this movie, people in china under the communist party and chairman mao' control were still so polite and so happy. but after the long 10 years 'cultural revolution', chinese people were totally changed into a new species, vicious, rude, self-centered and unfriendly.
'the blue kite' not only exposed the cruelty of the unseen iron-clad hand of the chinese control party, it also showed you something that you could use it to compare with the chinese nowadays. what a big difference.
A personal portrait that embodies the state of things!.......2007-04-04
All the revolutions are like Saturn; they conclude devouring even its most beloved. In this case we have an intimate story of schoolteacher from 1954 to 1967. A woman who loses three husbands and eventually her own freedom.
Once more the powerful depiction of these brutal years are realistically conveyed into the big screen with notable crudeness and beating actuality.
An advertence for all those who firmly still believe about the human redemption.
Very good film about China during 1950's and 1960's.......2006-07-16
"The Blue Kite" is a realistic film about the lives of Chinese families in the hutong, or traditional neighborhoods in Beijing between 1953 and 1968. We get fairly good impressions as to what life was like for children and adults living in courtyard homes that are increasingly being dismantled in Beijing, replaced by modern apartments and stores. We see how families gather around in their courtyard homes to celebrate the Chinese New Year. We also see how Chinese families then, as now, are very close, gathering together during family meals, and how grandparents often helped raise their grandchildren.
This film also realistically portrays some of the terrible effects of Mao's policies on ordinary human beings in China. I highly recommend this film and "To Live" as being the two best and most realistic films as to how Mao's misguided, perverse policies affected many ordinary, completely innocent human beings, who were working hard to raise their families, enjoying relatively simple lifestyles.
The movie is primarily told from the perspective of a child, Tietou. Shujuan, his mother, in the course of the events shown in the film has three husbands. Shalong, Her first husband is falsely accused of being a Rightist in the so-called anti-Rightist campaign, instigated by Mao, during the late 1950's. People in workplaces were pressured to come up with a quota of so-called rightists, who were usually sent to labor camps in the countryside. Shaolong, during a meeting with his colleagues to decide who will be labelled a rightist to placate Communist party bosses, briefly leaves the meeting to go to the bathroom. When he returns, he discovers he has been chosen by the others as being a rightist, to be punished. Shalong is completely innocent and tragically dies from an accident in the labor camp.
Tietou has a very difficult time during his childhood, often teased by other boys and he does not get along with his mother's third husband, a high level official who lives in a large, comfortable home. This stepfather is also cruelly tormented by mobs of Red Guards during the Cultural Revolution.
"The Blue Kite" is a relatively slow film, but I highly recommend this film because of its realistic portrayal of the daily lives of Chinese people in the hutong during the 1950's and 1960's, as well as being a courageous film by Zhuangzhuang Tian, the director, in exposing how many innocent people greatly suffered because of Mao's cruel, inhumane policies. This is one of the best films ever made about social life in modern China.
Blue Kite?.......2005-09-06
It was a great movie. I just wonder how they got the verbage on the back of the packaging. You'd think the "blue kite" would play more of a central role. Never happened. But the movie, aside from the misleading description, was great.
Straw Dogs.......2005-09-03
Compared to a similar film-"To Live"--this movie never really connects the viewer to the main characters--perhaps intentionally-I'm not sure--but despite the various calamities--one really never sympathises/empathises with any of the characters. About the only emotion felt during a viewing of this movie is ambivalence--perhaps all men are straw dogs as per the Taoist's and this is an expression of that sentiment.
Basically, the story of a mother and her son from the Communist take over, through the Great Leap forward and the Cultural revolution.
Worth watching--but in my opinion significantly inferior to "To Live" But also--significantly better than some of the garbage hollywood spews out!

This one-joke movie would have made a classic two-reel short. At 77 minutes it overstays its welcome, yet its goofy preposterousness is so sweet-natured that you'll probably develop a grudging fondness for it. Gibson Frazier, with his crackerjack musical-comedy moves and long, sharp-edged, comic-strip face, plays an aggressively chipper newspaperman named Johnny Twennies--a cross between the go-getters Harold Lloyd played in silent comedies and the motor-mouth hipsters perfected by Lee Tracy and Jimmy Cagney in the early talkies. Johnny wears '20s duds, writes on a vintage typewriter, sends telegrams instead of e-mail--yet he's living in modern-day New York City. He doesn't register anything that wouldn't have fit into the world of those movies from which he appears to have sprung: for instance, that his girlfriend (Susan Egan) is horny as a bedbug, or that his photographer sidekick (Anthony Rapp) is gay. None of these comic ideas comes to much, but Frazier (who cowrote with director Adam Abraham) can really dish out the snappy patter, and the black-and-white camerawork is the bee's knees. --Richard T. Jameson
Description
The sidewalks of New York will never be the same thanks to sharp-dressing, fast-talking newspaperman Johnny Twennies (Gibson Frazier), an ace reporter stuck in the 1920s who's blissfully unaware that he sticks out like a sore thumb in modern Manhattan. His girlfriend is fed up because he hasn't even kissed her, his boss wants him canned, and the local mob wants to bump him off because he's hot on their trail. Can Johnny blow the lid off an important crime scoop, get the girl, and keep himself from getting killed? A feast for the eyes in glorious black and white, this charming indie hit takes you on a rollicking tour of love, music, and laughter, now dressed to the nines for the first time on DVD in this splashy special edition!
Customer Reviews:
very funny musical.......2007-05-13
I liked this movie very much. the characters were great and the music was terrific.
For fans of old films.......2007-02-13
I would imagine the only people interested in buying this film had it recommended by a friend, because there's no other way anyone would even hear of this goofy little film. I loved it, but I can see how some viewers would find it tedious, because the criticisms are correct _ it is a bit of a one-joke movie. But it worked for me. I loved the way Johnnie Twennies's entire dialogue is filled with archaic catchphrases I've only heard in movies from the early 30s and 40s. In one scene, he slaps a man saying something like, "When I slap you, you'll take it and like it." I swear I heard Humphrey Bogart say that in the "The Maltese Falcon" when he slapped Peter Lorre around.
I laughed through the whole movie at the silliness of the premise, and the odd juxtaposition of his phrases, his dress, his whole demeanor in a modern world. I don't know. Maybe it just appealed me because sometimes I just feel like Johnnie Twennies myself.
The song track is right, there are little homages to the predictable scenes those old films always had _ like the cab chase, the nightclub scene, the down on her luck cigarette girl.
Yeah, I liked this film.
Quirky, Quaint, and Cute.......2007-01-18
This is a film about a reporter named Johnny Twenties, a late 20th century man whose demeanor and speech and lifestyle completely reflect the time of the roaring Twenties. Watch Johnny Twenties handle himself peerlessly and fearlessly as he faces off against mobsters and thugs and all others who lack chivalry and respect.
The mob is after him to do a piece on its boss, Elijah Pitts. But when Johnny hedges, they try to make him do it by force. Not everything goes according to plan for Johnny Twenties. But the film is a quaint and quirky parody of a man of another time living in our own time. In this regard, it reminded me of the 1995 Brady Bunch movie, another film where people of another culture and time try to make their way through our own modern world.
This is a relatively short film, coming in at 80 minutes. But I recommend it. An entertaining film.
This movie's the cat's meow, the bee's knees, and on the up and up,........2006-07-20
Man of the Century is an odd little independent film revolving around Johnny Twennies (Gibson Frazier), a man existing out of his time. His mannerisms and sensibilities are that of someone living in the Roaring Twenties. His colloquial speech pattern and cocky, independent persona recall James Cagney and Cary Grant, from Hollywood's golden age. He wears old-fashioned attire (hat included), sends out telegrams, types on an old-school typewriter, dances the Charleston, and is particular to tunes by Irving Berlin and the Gershwins.
Johnny Twennies resides in modern day New York yet is breezily oblivious to our contemporary times. His girlfriend Samantha (Susan Egan) is carrying a torch for him, yet finds herself constantly frustrated because Johnny insists on being a gentleman and refuses to put out. His new photographer partner seems unable to get across to Johnny that he's gay. Trouble comes calling when his newspaper editor gives Johnny one last chance to come up with a scoop before he gives him the bum's rush. Add to that the fact that two hoodlums are hassling him because of a newspaper column...well, it's all enough to give one the heebie-jeebies.
This short, weird film is short on depth, but long on style. I thought it was a blast. It was really fun watching the clash between 1990s NewYork residents (and their modern sensibilities) and the determined obliviousness of the anachronistic Johnny Twennies. The glossy black and white cinematography is apropos to the storyline and looks great. Gibson Frazier, who co-wrote the story, has the 1920s personality down pat, complete with the snappy, rapid-fire patter and jaunty, can-do attitude. Susan Egan has a perfectly pitched performance as Johnny's baffled girlfriend. Sadly, Frank Gorshin (Batman's Riddler) doesn't fare as well as the elderly, decrepit, kinky Roman Navarro, who preys on musical ingenues.
I do agree with several reviewers who suggested this would've improved even more with a shorter running time. It would've been absolute gold as a 20 minute short. Nevertheless, Man of the Century is still definitely worth checking out for the full-on commitment and realization of its wacky premise.
Stuck In Time--And It's Not Jake.......2005-07-20
This very odd film was worth the viewing-but it became tedious quickly. Director Adam Abraham, a USC grad (1995)-had a unique and creative vision that could have sustained a 20-minute one reel short. It was critically well received-but must have had a very limited theatrical release. Roger Ebert gave it 3 stars, and felt," it was an odd delight."
It had time-warp gentleness about it. The writing, done by Abraham and star Gibson Frazier-a pal of his-seemed to be accurate and well researched, in terms of the 20's phraseology. There definitely was a Ben Hecht-Preston Sturges 1928-1932 feel to the piece-hectic clipped dialogue and snappy patter. Ebert called it," THE FRONT PAGE meets modern vulgarity."
Gibson Fraser was quite good as Johnny Twenties-the newspaper reporter, who still pounded an old typewriter, wore a bowler, smoked, was naïve, and cracked wise. I liked the opening credits presented like a 20's silent film-complete with scratches and poor contrast on the print. But for me the snappy 20's patter-like Johnny saying," Say-you keep riding me like a streetcar-you're gonna have to pay the fare."-constantly juxtaposed to silly gangster street slang, complete with the "F" word-became less creative with every incidence.
The whole film seemed to be just a Johnny One-Note concept that continued way beyond its expiration date. The spirited 20's dance numbers, and the consistent staying in character for Gibson as Johnny-were truly admirable achievements. But the repeated gag ad infinitum-of Johnny Twenties existing in modern times-yet never touched by reality-wore itself out quickly. The sense of "style" seemed to override any semblance of viable or workable plot. The "book"-as they call the story in musicals-was feeble at best. With a little more imagination-the plot might have included some explication for the stuck in time scenario. Even Johnny's overbearing mother was stuck in time. For her it was somewhere between the Victorian era and THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS. She too-was oblivious to the modern world-sending a horse and carriage to pick up Johnny. Was this some attempt to explain Johnny's strange behavior?
The idea that modern gangsters would pursue and try and hurt Johnny, his girlfriend and his associates, had about as much allure as the plot for several THREE STOOGES shorts. The late Frank Gorshin hammed it up as a fake Italian Count who passed himself off as an Opera teacher and producer-setting up tryouts that segued into lurid sicko black leather S&M sexual scenario.
