Jurassic Park
Steven Spielberg's 1993 mega-hit rivals Jaws as the most intense and frightening film he'd ever made prior to Schindler's List, but it was also among his weakest stories. Based on Michael Crichton's novel about an island amusement park populated by cloned dinosaurs, the film works best as a thrill ride with none of the interesting human dynamics of Spielberg's Jaws. That lapse proves unfortunate, but there's no shortage of raw terror as a rampaging T-rex and nasty raptors try to make fast food out of the cast. The effects are still astonishing (despite the fact that the computer-generated technology has since been improved upon) and at times primeval, such as the sight of a herd of whatever-they-are scampering through a valley. --Tom Keogh

The Lost World - Jurassic Park
In the low tradition of knockoff horror flicks best seen (or not seen) on a drive-in movie screen, Steven Spielberg's sequel to Jurassic Park is a poorly conceived, ill-organized film that lacks story and logic. Screenwriter David Koepp strings along a number of loose ideas while Jeff Goldblum returns as Ian Malcolm, the quirky chaos theoretician who now reluctantly agrees to go to another island where cloned dinosaurs are roaming freely. Along with his girlfriend (Julianne Moore) and daughter, Malcolm has to deal with hunters, environmentalists, and corporate swine who stupidly bring back a big dino to Southern California, where it runs amok, of course. Spielberg doesn't seem to care that the pieces of this project don't add up to a real movie, so he hams it up with big, scary moments (with none of the artfulness of those in Jurassic Park) and smart-aleck visual gags (a yapping dog in a suburb mysteriously disappears when a hungry T-rex stomps by). A complete bust.--Tom Keogh

Jurassic Park III
Surpassing expectations to qualify as an above-average sequel, Jurassic Park III is nothing more or less than a satisfying popcorn adventure. A little cheesier than the first two Jurassic blockbusters, it's a big B movie with big B-list stars (including Laura Dern, briefly reprising her Jurassic Park role), and eight years of advancing computer-generated-image technology give it a sharp edge over its predecessors. While adopting the jungle spirit of King Kong, the movie refines Michael Crichton's original premise, and its dinosaurs are even more realistic, their behavior more detailed, and their variety--including flying pteranodons and a new villain, the spinosaurus--more dazzling and threatening than ever. These advancements justify the sequel, and its contrived plot is just clever enough to span 90 minutes without wearing out its welcome.

Posing as wealthy tourists, an adventurous couple (William H. Macy, Téa Leoni) convince paleontologist Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and his protégé (Allesandro Nivola) to act as tour guides on a flyover trip to Isla Sorna, the ill-fated "Site B" where all hell broke loose in The Lost World: Jurassic Park. In truth, they're on a search-and-rescue mission to find their missing son (Trevor Morgan), and their plane crash is just the first of several enjoyably suspenseful sequences. Director Joe Johnston (October Sky) embraces the formulaic plot as a series of atmospheric set pieces, placing new and familiar dinosaurs in misty rainforests, fiery lakes, and mysterious valleys, turning JP3 into a thrill ride with impressive highlights (including a T. rex versus spinosaurus smack-down), adequate doses of wry humor (from the cowriters of Election), and an upbeat ending that's corny but appropriate, proving that the symptoms of sequelitis needn't be fatal. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars For Jurassic Park Lovers.......2007-08-26

All three movies in one convenient box! I purchased this set to replace my combination of VHS and DVD singles that made up my personal copies. The prints are excellent and well worth the price and convenience of having them as a stand alone set.

4 out of 5 stars An All Time favourite!!!.......2007-08-24

Well, Well, Well!!! Jurassic Park 1,2 & 3. I have saw all of these movies on numerous occassions, however I decided to buy the boxset so I may watch them at my leisure. Jurassic Park ( all 3) deserve a 5star rating but I have a reason for giving them a 4star in this review which I will explain in a moment. Jurassic Park is the result of a brilliant mind combined with modern day technology and special effects. Its results are realistic dinosaurs in modern day and mans ability to get up close and personal with these critters. Tricerotops, brachiosaurs, T-Rex and an even more dangerous dinosaur than T-Rex whose name escapes me appears in the third. An ingenious idea of re-awakening a long extinct species comes true which I believe may have formed the basis of many a youngsters dream! In fact, it is the youngsters that cause me to give this review a 4star. The movies are geared towards all ages. What is needed is a realistic approach to what a dinosaur would do when the kids are NOT watching. Please, Please, Please make a Jurassic Park with an over 18's certificate. I bet the two kids would not escape the kitchen with the 3 raptors if it were for viewing only by an older audience!!! Even though such a movie may only exist in my dreams, for now JP 1,2&3 still amaze me. Thank you Stephen Spielberg, I cant wait to see what you come up with next!!!

5 out of 5 stars Dino-tastic!!!.......2007-08-11

These movies let us live out the fantasy that dinosaurs still roam the earth. Special effects, storyline and creativeness of the director/writer is most enjoyable. Recommend to all prehistoric reptile lovers. Acting is a bit strained and characters could have been developed more. It's like most of the attention to detail was on the dino's and special effects and actors were thrown in as backdrop/afterthought.

5 out of 5 stars Movie review.......2007-08-10

I am so happy I got this. It is a great deal for I love these movies

4 out of 5 stars A LIFETIME WORTH'S OF DINASOURS.......2007-07-31

The first film here is the real wonder of the trilogy. Up to 1993 we simply hadn't seen anything special effects like those before, mix that with Spielberg's hability for suspense and you have yourself a classic. To me Jurassic Park has aged pretty well even though we've seen so many CGI movies since it first came out, perhaps many more than we would have wanted to.
"Lost World" is a mixed bag, most of the excesive human characters range from mediocre (the leads) to plain indifferent (the villains) and they really kill the film despite (again) great and improved special effects. I absolutely hated the "rich people are all bad " and "child in jeopardy" routines and found the gymanstics vs. raptors scene the worst thing Spielberg has done/will ever do in his life. Also, after a while of the raptors missing the heros you start to doubt if they're really motivated on getting them or keep on "just missing" them. Ad a first half hour when absolutely nothing relevant occurs and you get the idea what kind of sequel this is. Perhaps the problem is what Spielberg claims in the "making of" regarding the movie being born out of "popular demand", in other words, simply money.
I liked the third movie a lot more than I expected even though the raptors keep on miraculosly missing the leads. At the end of the movie you come to realize Sam Neil is a lot more capable on carrying this kind of movie by himself than Jeff Goldblum
I recently read they'r gearing up for Jurassic Park IV for 2008, personally after this trilogy and the new King Kong I feel I've had plenty of dinasours for a lifetime.

Picture two people a child and an adult parasailed and the boat driver magically disappeared into the fog. The people glide onto a mysterious island. Will they ever get off the island? Where did the boat driver go? This is best movie I have ever seen you should watch it too.

Then dinosaurs look so real. At some parts in this movie these dinosaurs look like they are coming right out of the TV screen.
This movie has a book to it and it is almost just like the movie. I have also read the book. This book was so good that I told every one that they should read it too. This movie is so good that I had to watch it more than once. I ended up watching this movie at the least seven times.

This movie is one of the best movies I have ever watched in my entire life. I recommend this movie to children thirteen and over because children under the age might get scared of the huge dangerous dinosaurs.

4 out of 5 stars A much better sequel.......2007-03-26

I am a big fan of the original film, Jurassic Park, but found the first sequel, Jurassic Park: The Lost World to be poorly developed character- and plot-wise, with too much reliance on action and special effects. I was so disappointed with my first viewing of the first sequel, that I did not see it again for years, and did not see the third movie, Jurassic III, until very recently, when I bought the DVD version of the trilogy.

In Jurassic III, paleontologist Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill) has vowed to never set foot on Isla Sorna, the island near Costa Rica where InGen, a company owned by wealthy entrepreneur John Hammond, had staff use genetic engineering and DNA harvested from blood extracted from fossilized mosquitoes to clone dinosaurs and raise them. The dinosaurs were to be exhibited on nearby Isla Nublar, in the ultimate theme park, Jurassic Park, with the disastrous results shown in the first installment of the trilogy. After the debacle on Isla Nublar, InGen abandoned both islands, and they were quarantined, until the dinosaurs could die off. But, the dinosaurs flourished.

Now, an apparently rich, divorced couple has talked Dr. Grant into being their guide for an aerial tour of Isla Sorna, but they have a hidden agenda. I don't see this as a spoiler, as it is one of the first scenes in the movie: a man (the divorced woman's boyfriend) and a boy (the son of the divorcees) are stranded on Isla Sorna, after a parasailing trip goes badly. The divorced couple (William H. Macy and Tea Leoni) really want to rescue their son (Trevor Morgan) from Isla Sorna, with the help of Dr. Grant and his assistant (Alessandro Nivola), who do not know they are on a rescue mission, and Michael Jeter and his crew. Of course, the dinosaurs do not appreciate the intrusion, and see the humans as good snacking material.

The dinosaurs: Three dinosaur species were big attractions in this movie. A new "super-predator," Spinosaurus, was introduced, and it was bigger and meaner than Tyrannosaurus rex. A section of the island was set aside for pteronodons, and they were very interesting. And, of course, the Velociraptors were a big part of the film, with the premise being that, had the Earth not experienced a meteor-triggered climatic cataclysm, the Velociraptors might have ended up as the globe's dominant species. The theme of their communication skills was well-done and very interesting, and the portrayal of the animals has been updated, to match recent theories, by having them sport crests of primitive proto-feathers. One of the DVD's special features was a "dinosaur turntable," wherein the different species were presented as monochromatic three-dimensional models revolving on a platform, full-color models revolving in a real-life scene, and computerized models showing their locomotion. This educational feature was great, but could have been expanded, to include information on hunting, feeding, and social interaction facts, to the extent those are known.

Special effects: Amazing. Truly amazing. The movements of all the different animals are done very well, look natural (Right! As if I know how a Spinosaurus should move!), and blend very well with the real aspects of the scenes (like people and trees). The battles between the Spinosaurus and the Tyrannosaurus rex is amazing to watch and, in some bizarre way, I found myself sad about the outcome, which just points out how realistic these beasties seemed to me. The pterosaurs, in their odd manner of walking and graceful flight, were quite credible, and their final scene, reminiscent of the closing scene of Jurassic Park with the pelicans, was loaded with portent, suggesting that, if there ever were a Jurassic IV, it might portray a world where humanity was trying to keep itself off of the Endangered Species list.

The intangibles: Jurassic Park showed us some moments of movie magic, most notably the wonder of Drs. Grant and Sattler seeing the brachiosaurs for the first time, and realizing how their world had just turned upside-down, plus the primitive, terrifying glory of the triumphant Tyrannosaurus rex near the end, as she inescapably declared the world to belong to her. The Lost World had none of that wonder, charm, or emotional power.

What about Jurassic III? Trevor Morgan, William H. Macy, Tea Leoni, and Allesandro Nivola helped Sam Neill restore an element of human emotion and connectivity to the film, and the idea that the Velociraptors were even more advanced than previously thought, added an element of both terror and wonder (as in "I wonder what life will be like now?") to the story. This third installment in the series did not have as much emotional impact as did the original, but it came close enough to call it a worthy sequel.

Pros: Action, special effects, pterosaurs, a real story

Cons: It still lacks some of the wonder of the first film.

The Bottom Line: This is a better sequel to Jurassic Park than was The Lost World, with more story, better acting, and just as much action and great special effects.

5 out of 5 stars This one is my favorite.......2007-01-29

Let's be honest, after "The Lost World" did anyone have high hopes for the third installment? I certainly didn't. I came late to the Jurassic Park movies, only seeing them a few years ago, so I don't have any real attachment to the first movie. I enjoyed it but I couldn't stand the child actors and enough with the Chaos Theory, Jeff Goldbum. For me, number three was the best. It was fun and entertaining. Don't get my wrong, I understand why the Emmys overlooked this movie. However, I thought that the actors were good; the story was well thought out and it was overall an enjoyable, exciting movie. Don't get caught up comparing it to the original, because odds are you like that one best. Feel free to compare it to the "The Lost World," because odds are you don't like that better... than anything. In closing, let me say this: "Jurassic Park III" is worth your time and money and at the very least it will get the horrible taste that is "The Lost World" out of your mouth.

JURASSIC PARK -

Jurassic Park gets a easy 10/10 from me. I have been a huge fan, even have a site for the movies, fan of the series ever since I first saw Jurassic Park back in 1996 at five, almost six years old. The movie was just so magical, everything about it was so breathtaking and fascinating, it was oh so perfect. The dinosaurs in this movie have to be the most realisticly portrayed out of any dinosaur films from the past, that was absolutly no question. The charectors were great and added to the specialness of the film, all the actors chosen to star were perfect in there roles except for a minor few such as Martin Ferrero as Donal Gennaro, hes a good actor and all, but he didn't fit the role at all, but he wasn't horrible or bad either, he would have fit as a better Ed Regis if that charector was in the film which it wasn't. Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Richard Attenborough, Joseph Mazzello and Ariana Richards were the cast members who rounded out most of the cast, each giving there charector a sense of originality and freshness. The actors are so realistic that you never think once that they've memorized the lines from the script, but that there saying everything naturally. From the excellent start to the film to one of the most memorable movie endings in the history of cinema, this film delivers in every way. Steven Spielberg really delivered what he was determined to do, a realistic film where the dinosaurs were portrayed as real as possible and as animals, NOT theme-park monsters. The basic premise of the film: A wealthy Billionare, John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) invites a group of scientists/Paleontologists to the island, Isla Nublar (aka Jurassic Park) to endorse the park, in other words, tell the envestors and lawyers that the park is in fact, safe and ready to be opened to the public. But when a greedy worker for Hammond shuts the power off in the park letting loose the dinosaurs, everything goes downward and mayhem occurs everywhere. From over turned explorers to a kid getting shocked on an electrical fence to a Tyrannosaurs chasing a jeep and even Velociraptors stalking kids in a kitchen, you see everything you could possibly hope for. This movie gets an easy ten out of ten. You should be ashamed if you do not have this in your collection. Ashamed.

THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK -

10/10. I don't know, to this day, why some people say that the third flm is better than this one? I simply do not know why? Half the people who claim that the third is better is just because they prefer more action over a well thought out plot (unlike part ///'s disgraceful premise that a four year old could think up in a day) and realistically portrayed dinosaurs (unlike JP///'s incredibly INNACURATE Spinosaur, many do not know and think that the way the Spinosaurus in part 3 is how they were in real life, not true, the Spinosaurs were actually FISH eaters and would never go up against the Tyrannosaurus like it did, but this review is about TLW, not JP///). So basically, in this also Steven Spielberg directed film, a group of InGen workers including John Hammond's nephew Peter Ludlow (Arliss Howard) set out to Isla Sorna, Site B, an island that used to be the breeding ground for Jurassic Park's dinosaurs before a massive hurricane destroyed the island forcing many to flee and leaving the dinosaurs to inhabit the island. The group set out to capture as much dinosaurs as possible and bring them back to the mainland to create a new park, 'Jurassic Park: San Diego'. When John Hammond who was forced out of his possition of InGen CEO (President), his nephew taking his place, hears about this, he sets up a team including Nick Van Owen (Vince Vaughn), Eddie Carr (Richard Schiff) and Dr. Sarah Harding (Julianne Moore) who plays Dr. Ian Malcolms (Jeff Goldblum, from the first film) girlfriend to go and document the dinosaurs at the island to set up a fossil record and prove that the dinosaurs are not dangerous. But when Malcolm hears that his girlfriend has gone to the island, he immedietly sets out to the island to "rescue" her even though she chose to go. When the team members, including Malcolm, arrive, they all discover that Hammond sent them to the island to puroposely stop Ludlow and his team from taking the dinosaurs off the island. The movie turns into a team against team/team against dinosaurs and Sabatoge type film. To make matters worse, Malcolms daughter, Kelly Malcolm (Vannessa Lee Chester) has stowed away on a trailer to the island with them, so he is now forced to watch after her and protect himself and his girlfriend Sarah from the prehistoric animals. The ending is very climatic and makes the whole point of the Jurassic Park movies. Just when you thought that the dinosaurs couldnt' get any better than the first film, you were wrong, the dinosaurs in this film look even MORE realistic and fascinating than the first film. Particularly the Velociraptors and Tyrannosaurs stand out the most. The movie deserved what it gets, which is a ten out of ten. And if you think that part three is better, then you are crazy but hey, we all have our opinions and think different from each other so...

JURASSIC PARK /// -

My rating? 4.5/10 (4 and a half out of ten), this movie was so hyped up and was claiming to be as good as the first two, wrong. First off, the plot, the plot is a plot that you would probably see on a 'Jurassic Park: The TV Series' type show, a divorced couples teenage son gets in a parasailing accident near Isla Sorna and is forced to land there, eight weeks later (do you honestly think a thirteen year old would survive for eight weeks?), the couple (why on earth would the couple wait eight weeks to finally get help??) trick Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill from the first film, hes what makes the movie get a 4.5/10) into going to the island claiming that they are a happily married couple and are celebrating there anniversary by taking an aerial tour of the island by plane, but when the plane lands and invertedly crashes soon after by the islands new "monster", Grant finds out why the couple trully brought him here, to help find there son. Another person who came along with Grant is graduate student, Billy Brennan (Alessandro Nivola, his charector is the only new charector actually worthy of being in a JP film) who wanted to see the dinosaurs alive and well. After this, the movie basically turns into nothing but a corny running and screaming film where all the charectors destined to die, die half way through the film leaving the half with NO deaths. The dinosaurs, I don't know what to think, the Velociraptors have now lost there eeriness and make you want to laugh rather then shutter, they are portrayed TOO intelligently in the film that its almost laughable in some parts. The Spinosaurus is just...gosh, a big mistake, the film portrays it as a total movie monster which ruins the whole point of the first two films, which was to portray the dinosaurs as animals rather than vicious monsters out to just kill and nothing else. You hardly get to see any herbivores in this film and only see carnivores (mostly the Raptors and Spinosaurus) out to get some fresh meat. The Spinosaurus is portrayed so wrong that its almost disgusting, first off, the Spinosaurs would NEVER have attacked the Tyrannosaurus Rex in real life like it did in the film, second off, the way it broke the Rex's neck, was totally wrong and unbelievable, now, if it would have broken the Rex's neck AND tooken off its own jaw in the process, then it would have been a little more believable, why do I say this? Well simple, the Spinosaurs jaws were made for eating and catching FISH, not breaking a Rex's neck which is almost impossible to do i'm sure. The Spinosaurus wouldn't even chase the humans around like it did unless they were in its territory, instead it chases and stalks them around the whole island! The acting was sub par, Sam Neill and Alessandro did excellent jobs, and I appreciated the great cameo by Jurassic Park star, Laura Dern, who returns for a two part cameo that rounds out to 5 or 6 minutes of the film. Those were actually my favorite scenes, the two cameos with her present because it manages to capture the JP feeling, too bad the rest of the film couldn't do the same. Tea Leoni and William H. Macy, they did a bad job in my opinion, hey, there great actors, oscar worthy of course, but not in this movie, they weren't given anything good to work with and acted a bit over the top. One of the worst aspects, was that Joe Johnston who relys more on Special effects than on plot and story depth, took over the reighns of the directors chair leaving Steven Spielberg only as Executive Producer. The whole style of the film was just so...wrong. But hey, there were some good aspects of the film that I won't list because this film is really about opinion once it comes down to it. 4.5/10. Let's hope that JP IV does better and i'm hoping that I get the privalege of giving it at least a 8/10.

Now, the bonus disc is what saved the box set to get a 3.5/10 rating (due the third film getting a poor rating), the sad part is is that the bonus disc, BEYOND JURASSIC PARK (which gets a 8.5/10) is more entertaining and has more JP depth then the third movie, and the bonus disc just has special features for all three JP films that most, have never before been seen before. The extras are a REALLY GREAT treat for the JP fan and you're really missing out if you don't have this disc, the packaging for the trilogy is really beautiful and convenient. So if you don't have this set in your collection, either go out and buy it NOW or you'll be hitting yourself later on.

OVERALL - The set gets a 10/10.

JURASSIC PARK - 10/10

THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK - 10/10

5 out of 5 stars JP2=The Best. / JP1=The 2nd Best / JP3=The Third Best.......2005-07-11

I say that Jurassic Park 2; The Lost World is the absolute best of the three because everything about it is perfect, Jurassic Park 1 is almost as good as the second, and Jurassic Park 3 is Ok. I love the Lost World because of extreme scenes like the San Diego rampage scene.

5 out of 5 stars Great Trilogy and Special features.......2005-02-13

Everyone knows the first Jurassic Park movie rocked. The Lost World was just as good, but it was more of the same: thrilling dinosaurs and chases scenes with dinosaurs that look completely real. The third Jurassic Park movie was not quite as good, but still a great movie. It had all the ingredients and I really enjoyed all three.

Hulk:

We all know it is a no-no to do genetic experiments on people. And once again a scientist David Banner has to do it to himself. Now to compound the problem he passes a trait onto his offspring Bruce Banner (Eric Bana). Add a little lab accident and et voila instant hulk.

This is not the best integration of real, animation and CGI. Yet the story is told and you have fun watching. There is a father / son conflict and a misunderstood Hulk dismantles a lot of military equipment with extreme prejudice. This film does not try to follow the TV series and is not so dated. The only real drawback is that Jennifer Connelly is just too cute and you forget to keep track of the story line.

Jurassic Park III

It is always fun to see dinosaurs eat people. I like the chase scenes and the "stay in the car" scenes. Even the consumption of a satellite phone can be fun. But you can only dumb things down so much before losing any plausibility. In a mediocre movie you root for the creature to eat the dumb person that walks up to it and says, "Aren't you just the cutest thing?" In this one the characters are not worth eating. The story line and execution are so incredible that it does not matter that there are transparent to the viewer form the start. They should have went ahead and made it campy.

Basic story is paleontologist would not set foot on island of ancient creatures. Mysterious couple with lots of cashes just wants him to point out the highlights from the air (yeah sure).

One item in the plus is Sam Neil has more than one expression.

----------------------------------------------
Just a note to those people that are watching this pair of films because San Neill is in them, may want to invest in the 1983 mini series Reilly - Ace of Spies as he does an exceptionally good job of acting.

Jurassic Park 3 Takes a Bite
Released: 2001
Rated: PG-13

If you were on the island what you think you would see and if you were in this situation would you be scared.
