As if the soundtrack weren't audacious enough, Helgeland (recovering from the sour experience of his directorial debut, Payback) casts none other than Geoffrey Chaucer (wonderfully played by Paul Bettany) as William's cohort and match announcer, along with William's pals Roland (Mark Addy) and Wat (Alan Tudyk), and feisty blacksmith Kate (Laura Fraser). Of course there must be a fair maiden, and she is Jocelyn (newcomer Shannyn Sossamon), with whom William falls in love while battling the nefarious Count Adhemar (Rufus Sewell) on the European jousting circuit. Add to this an inspiring father-son reunion, Ledger's undeniable charisma, a perfect supporting cast, and enough joyful energy to rejuvenate the film's formulaic plot, and A Knight's Tale becomes that most pleasant of movie surprises--an unlikely winner that rises up, like its hero, to exceed all expectations. --Jeff Shannon

History will place an asterisk next to A.I. as the film Stanley Kubrick might have directed. But let the record also show that Kubrick--after developing this project for some 15 years--wanted Steven Spielberg to helm this astonishing sci-fi rendition of Pinocchio, claiming (with good reason) that it veered closer to Spielberg's kinder, gentler sensibilities. Spielberg inherited the project (based on the Brian Aldiss short story "Supertoys Last All Summer Long") after Kubrick's death in 1999, and the result is an astounding directorial hybrid. A flawed masterpiece of sorts, in which Spielberg's gift for wondrous enchantment often clashes (and sometimes melds) with Kubrick's harsher vision of humanity, the film spans near and distant futures with the fairy-tale adventures of an artificial boy named David (Haley Joel Osment), a marvel of cybernetic progress who wants only to be a real boy, loved by his mother in that happy place called home.
Echoes of Spielberg's Empire of the Sun are clearly heard as young David, shunned by his trial parents and tossed into an unfriendly world, is joined by fellow "mecha" Gigolo Joe (played with a dancer's agility by Jude Law) in his quest for a mother-and-child reunion. Parallels to Pinocchio intensify as David reaches "the end of the world" (a Manhattan flooded by melted polar ice caps), and a far-future epilogue propels A.I. into even deeper realms of wonder, even as it pulls Spielberg back to his comfort zone of sweetness and soothing sentiment. Some may lament the diffusion of Kubrick's original vision, but this is Spielberg's A.I. (complete with one of John Williams's finest scores), a film of astonishing technical wizardry that spans the spectrum of human emotions and offers just enough Kubrick to suggest that humanity's future is anything but guaranteed. --Jeff Shannon

Pure Magic.......2007-09-04
One of the most misunderstood movies of all time. David is a robot that develops a "bond" with his "mother" A perfectly crafted movie from the brain of Steven Spielberg and Stanley Kubrick. It's a movie that will make both of them proud.
This is a movie that frustrates more than it profounds. It's a delightful movie with a wonderful performance from Haley Joel Osment.
This Two-Disc Set is definitely worth it. It includes hours of features and some nice interviews. Plus the movie looks amazing.
It's definitely recommended.
Watch this movie if you are excessively happy.......2007-08-15
Movies exist to entertain us, to make us happy, to give us relief from our tedious boring lives or to give us something interesting to think about. Even movies with sad endings fulfil at least one of these purposes but AI Artificial Intelligence was extremely depressing for every minute of its 146 min length.
Artificial Intelligence is set in a future world where rising oceans have sunk many of the world's coastal cities. Humans have created androids to be prostitutes, nannies, etc. The androids are very intelligent and can feel emotions but have virtually no rights. They are hunted and slaughtered by fanatical humans who serve as antagonists in the movie.
The story is about an android boy seeking the love of his human mother. It was hopeless right from the beginning. David seems like an ordinary child but his behaviour is inhuman in a very subtle way (excellent acting by Haley Joel Osment). David is programmed to love his mother unconditionally but he is manipulated by his human brother into making some very big mistakes. Feeling sorry for him, his mother abandons David, instead of sending him back to the factory to be disassembled. He spends the rest of the movie wandering around, looking for the Blue Fairy to make him a real boy. He's accompanied by an android gigolo and an intelligent teddy bear that do their best to put some comic relief into this dreary movie.
Artificial Intelligence is supposed to be a story about the human inability to love anyone who is different. David is impossible not to feel sorry for. No one deserves what happened to him. Monica seems really evil for failing to love David after making him love her. But the real sin is getting David in the first place. Humans are not supposed to love machines. It's unnatural. It's wrong. If our lovers and children are replaced with machines it can only lead to the inevitable extinction of the human race. It may be immoral to kill sentient beings but the Flesh Fairs are doing the right thing. They instinctively see the androids as a threat to the survival of their race and for good reason. The real tragedy in this movie is not David's personal story, but the fact that androids will gradually overcome humanity's instinctual revulsion as they become more human-like and humanity will condemn itself to a slow, lingering death.
The movie's ending is happy, sad and very bizarre at the same time. This is a movie that will leave an unpleasant feeling in your mind long after it's over.
The One Day in Your Life That Makes Your Life Worth Living.......2007-07-21
For excellent analyses and synopses of this film, please see the so many other wonderful reviews of this film written by Amazon reviewers. I echo the many reviews that commend this film for its intriguing plot, marvelous acting, and awesome special effects, but most of all, for its incredible HEART. Yes, no question that the film has many dark aspects to it, and it's probably a good thing that I saw this film for the first time on TV tonight, rather than at the theatre, because I was moved to tears throughout much of the film. I'm going to buy the DVD through Amazon.
In the end, the extraordinary insight that I took away from this film was that the experience of loving and of being loved, EVEN IF FOR JUST FOR ONE DAY--whether it be love between yourself and a beloved parent, child, or relative; a beloved pet; a beloved life partner; or a beloved friend--THAT ONE DAY MAKES YOUR LIFE WORTH LIVING. Most of us are so blessed and lucky with more than that one special day with our beloved ones, but this beautiful film perhaps will make you hark back to a certain illuminated or heightened day you experienced that kind of love in your own life and make you realize all you have to be so thankful for in this life.
A film that pulls you into it.......2007-07-21
A.I. Artificial Intelligence is a story about a grieving family who has lost their son. At the same time, a person who has built robots comes up with an idea. We all know that robots can't love and can't express human emotion. But what if there was? What if there was a robot that can love, like a child who loves his parents? This is exactly the idea of this scientist. He creates a child, a boy robot (David), who is one of a kind. A robot who can love, and has human emotion. The grieving family then adopts this boy robot, and that's where the real story begins. If you have not seen the film, you may want to skip the rest of this review as alot of the story is revealed.
At first, it's the questions if a human can love a robot. The mother has a hard time adjusting to David, as she knows that he is not a real boy. Then, their real son is healed and he is brought home. Since the void is now lifted, eventually, the mother abondons David by leaving him in the forest alone. You feel sorry for David as he cries out to his mother on why she is abandoning him. He feels that she does not love him, and that he has displeased her. Again, this is something a regular robot cannot do. But this boy robot was created to love, and to be loved. But he feels that he is not getting loved in return. So, he sets out to find a fairy who will turn into him into a real boy so that his mother will love him.
Some may not like the fact that the movie is sort of based on Pinocchio. But this did not bother me at all. After all, this is a young boy so wouldn't a fairy tail be more appropriate?
As the story goes, David ends up being with other robots in a circus-like act where all the old and stray A.I. robots are destroyed in a brutal manner. David watches as the robots are put to their death. A man and his daughter then discover this boy caged with the robots, and the man is shocked to discover that this boy is a machine. He doesn't want to put David in the act, but the leader does it anyway. David hangs on to another robot, who was introduced earlier in the film as a robot who is obsessed with the ladies. The two robots, David and his companion robot, are then prepared to be melted by hot liquid. Your own emotions are once again played with as David cries out for his life. The other robot does not though. And why? It goes back to the beginning: David was created with human emotion. The audience of the act notices this, and they stop the act from being performed. David is now able to continue on his adventure.
The film has a touch of humor to it. This makes the film enjoyable as well as emotional. There are happy times, and then there are sad times. These are great recipies to making a masterpiece.
As the story goes on, David makes many other discoveries along his adventure. We see a underwater Manhattan, then a old underwater amusement park. Then David finnaly finds the fairy. He prays, and prays, and prays for the fairy to turn him into a real boy. But we know better, and the film does not make the fairy tail come to life that easy. 2000 years go by and now everything is ice. Humans are now gone, and David is the only one left with memory of human beings. Other beings, who look like aliens but may not be, read David's mind and see everything that he has seen. As the end of the film arrives, David gets the answer to the question he was asking. Somehow, he is suddenly in his house again, but it's different. And who is there? Why, it's the magic fairy! David gets to spend time with his mother for one day. And then his mother tells him at the end that she has always loved him. This is the final scene where your emotions are tested, as David can no longer see his mother again. Yet, as he sleeps next to his mom, he still dreams and goes to that place where dreams are made.
Haley Joel Osment, Jude Law, and every star in the film did an outstanding performance. The effects of the film are amazing and future-like. In conclusion, this film is a masterpiece and it tugs at your heartstrings. It makes you think, it makes you feel, it makes you a part of it. I recommend this film to everyone, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Not a bad flick, with an overlooked message.......2007-07-21
This movie gets a lot of harsh criticism, but it's actually pretty good. Most criticism make sense, but the movie's flaws don't seem so apparent if you see what the movie is trying to say and can empathize with the characters. Man at the current time, is very cynical and uncaring. And because today's generation wasn't really raised by their mothers it is very difficult for the majority of people to understand a story about a young boy's love for his mother and the hurt he feels when separated and alienated from her. Thanks to the women's lib movement women spend most of their time outside the home and as a result spend little time with their children. Therefore, if a person has never had a proper mother/child relationship how can he or she emphasize with a child who is separated from his mother? The movie runs a bit long, which isn't usually a bad thing, but perhaps it harms this movie because somethings simply could have been cut. The first half goes on for a very long time building up the story, so you're kind of tired by the time the action half of the movie begins. The ending is a bit confusing with the aliens and everything and perhaps could have been improved and shortened. Many criticize the movie for being a rewrite of the Pinocchio story. What they have to realize is that most movies are simply old folktales, mythology, or even older movies simply rewritten. In short, this movie isn't perfect, but in no way is it a bad movie, simply misunderstood by today's fast culture.

Fun take on the Canterbury Tales.......2007-05-07
This movie has been out for a while...so it'll be pointless to write a full review on the movie itself. If you are thinking about buying this BD, that means you a) Know/liked about the movie and would like to own it or b) seen the movie and would like to own it.
So, what I'm going to focus on is the BD itself. First off, the picture quality is very nice. I'm not a videophile by any stretch of the imagination, but when I was watching this movie, I was pleased with the level of detail and richness of color.
The sound was also superb. Unfortunately, I've yet to buy a 7.1 receiver, or one that allows for uncompressed PCM, so I had to settle for the 5.1 DD track, but even so, I found it to be of very high quality.
The extras are the one thing this BD release lacks. It has none, as far as I remember.
All and all, I would recommend this movie to anyone who liked it in the first place, and any of those who are interested in a fun movie.
Fun movie, but not worth Blu-Ray.......2007-05-06
This movie has always amused me on DVD, so I figured I'd snag it on sale on Blu-Ray. Well, there is nothing diffrent from it's older DVD conterpart.
No Hi-Def, enhancements or anything. So, unless you can find it cheaper on a sale someplace, just buy the DVD and save yourself some cash.
A PSEUDO-MEDIEVAL ROMP..........2007-03-26
This highly enjoyable, fairy tale of a film revolves around the efforts of William, a tanner's son, trying to change his destiny. His father gave him up into servitude to a knight, when William was a slip of a lad, in hopes of his having a better future. When he grows up, William, remembering his father's advice, reaches for the stars in an effort to become what he has always dreamed of being, a knight in shining armor.
Played to perfection by the very hunky and charismatic Heath Ledger, William gets his big break when the knight, whom he serves, dies during a jousting competition. Donning his knight's armor and substituting secretly for the knight, he handily, though clumsily, wins the competition and its purse. He persuades Roland and Wat, the other two vassals who also served the now dead knight, to assist him in his efforts to continue competing. They reluctantly agree and begin helping him train for future jousting competitions. William, however, needs credentials establishing his knighthood in order to compete, as mere peasants are prohibited to do so. He has the good fortune to run into a man of letters, Geoffrey Chaucer, who happens to be a bit down on his luck. Chaucer agrees to provide him with forged patents in order to enter tournaments.
William, playing the role of a knight named Ulric Von Lichtenstein, becomes a force with which to be reckoned on the playing field. This does not pass unnoticed by an evil knight, Count Adhemar, played with deliciously wicked malice by Rufus Sewell, who does not hesitate to play dirty on and off the field, if necessary, in order to win. William, however, plays his role most honorably and nobly.
William falls in love with the Lady Jocelyn, whom Sewell also covets and intends to marry, but Lady Jocelyn, played by lovely newcomer, Shannyn Sossamon, may be falling for our erstwhile hero. This turn of events makes Count Adhemar all the more determined to win on and off the field. When a jousting competition brings them all to William's hometown, Adhemar pulls out all the stops in an effort to settle the matter once and for all.
This is truly a fun film. The viewer can't help but love the ever so earnest William, played by the simpatico and romantically handsome Heath Ledger. Paul Bettany, as the insouciant and scampish Chaucer, very nearly steals the film, so terrific is he in his role. Rufus Sewell is both sexy and ruthless as the unprincipled and haughty Count Adhemar. The rest of the supporting cast is likewise superb, with the exception of Shannyn Sossamon who does not seem fit the role of one to the manor born.
While the plot seems somewhat formulaic, it is made new by the interjection of modern day music and customs. Watch as the crowd gathered for the jousting competition stomps, claps, and does the "wave" in time to Queen's rousing song, "We Will Rock You". See Chaucer act as a modern day huckster for his knight, working the crowd to a fever pitch. Look to the dance led by William at a post jousting reception at the local castle. Likewise, Jocelyn's costumes, at times, resemble haute couture. These modern day interjections that occur throughout the film, though jarring, keep this age old story fresh and funny. It is difficult not to enjoy this film, as it is infectious in its charm.
For the classic rock lover with brains :).......2007-03-09
Title says some of why I love this movie, a very smart and articulate love/comedy musical. With an awesome soudtrack (Bowie 's Golden Years is a blast ) and vibrant picture, it's imposible not to thouroughly enjoy this movie that's got it all and in Blu-Ray, it just got better. Up there on my cult classics list. 5 stars.
Blu-ray looks and sounds good; but no extras........2007-01-19
The Blu-ray version of this film looks and sounds great; however I am disappointed that none of the extras or extended scenes from the DVD release are included on this disc.

There's no rule against rock anthems from the 1970s in the soundtrack for a movie about a medieval jousting champion, but if you're going to attempt such jarring anachronisms, you'd better establish acceptable ground rules. Writer-director Brian Helgeland does precisely that in A Knight's Tale and pulls off this trick with such giddy aplomb that you can't help but play along. (Upon witnessing a crowd of peasants at a jousting match, singing and clapping to the beat of Queen's "We Will Rock You," you're either going to love this movie or dismiss it altogether.) Other vintage rock hits will follow, but Helgeland--the Oscar®-winning cowriter of L.A. Confidential--handles this ploy with judicious goodwill, in what is an otherwise honest period piece about a peasant named William (Heath Ledger) who rises by grit and determination to the hallowed status of knighthood.

Kick back and enjoy a good flick........2007-08-26
This is a great little movie: good script, entertaining soundtrack and good acting. The caveat is that you need to let go the desire to box the movie into a specific genre, because is happily and effectively ignores them.
Incredibly Different!.......2007-08-08
Entertaining is too light a word for "A Knight's Tale", which has become one of my all-time favorites. Not only is the music unusual, yet fitting for the Medieval setting in which the story is set, there is a workin' female farrier/blacksmith who is on equal footing with the male protangonist. Of note, although attractive, the actors, such as lead Heath Ledger, are not the glitzy beautiful we have come to expect in movies. The actors display human foibles and strengths, such as poor choices and loyalty, all truthfully.
There is humor and teamwork and the universal theme of trying to better oneself. Incredible aerial camera shots of the horses, jousting and dancing that I found breathtaking memorable. Watch this movie! It may also become your favorite!
A Knights Tale.......2007-08-08
My son watched this and he wouldnt leave his brothers alone till they watched this He is 15
A surprisingly novel approach to this genre.......2007-07-12
I ran across this movie first on TV, about 1/4 completed and knew nothing about it. I generally love the genre, but did a double-take when the rock music piped up. I wasn't sure I was hearing what I was hearing. But it fit right in. In fact, I would never have thought it could work and probably would have turned up my nose before watching if I had known beforehand (honest admission).
The choice of music is perfect and conveys the right emotional quality. You can't just stick in a rock soundtrack for novelty and hope it will work. The music still has to further the story. When the story in of a different era than the story, the task is difficult. They manage it perfectly.
But don't be convinced that this is all about the music. Though formulaic, the story is well-told, well-acted, well-written and exciting.
We purchased it because we intend to watch again (probably more than most other movies).
I love things new, different and well-done. This is it. By the way, it is a great date-movie. It has a story which appeals to men and women and it romantic (without being drippy and boring).
A Fun Film - If You Get the Joke and Don't Take It Seriously.......2007-06-23
Here is my disclaimer - DON'T TAKE THIS MOVIE SERIOUSLY. I have to admit, when I first saw A Knight's Tale, at first I was a bit put off by the glaring historical inaccuracies and rock music. That is I was until I saw the scene where the herald, Geoffrey Chaucer (Paul Bettany), is getting the crowd fired up prior to a match and it all made perfect sense - Jousting as PRO WRESTLING! What the director and writers have done is a satire, putting the features and passion of pro wrestling (and other fan favorite sports like football) into a medieval setting.
Not to completely rehash the plot, the story is a basic, Horatio Alger rags to riches story. William (Hugh Ledger) is a commoner serving as page for Sir Hector, an aging knight who dies of a heart attack during the course of a tournament. Out of funds, William dons Sir Hector's armor and finishes the tournament. This victory inspires William to try to make a living impersonating a knight. He convinces Sir Hector's other pages, Roland (Mark Addy) and Wat (Alan Tudyk), to join him and with practice, they become successful on the "Jousting circuit" with William creation, "Sir Ulrich von Lichtenstein." Along the way, William defeats the heavy, Count Adhemar (Rufus Sewell), gets the girl (Jocelyn - played by Shannyn Sossamon), and wins the Jousting Championship.
The dialogue is average (although Bellamy shines in the role of the herald) and the directing is adequate (I did like the shots of the jousting) but the real fun in this film is the satire and the music. The musical selection, such as "Golden Years" by David Bowie for the dancing scene or the choice of "The Boys are Back in Town" by (British) band "Thin Lizzy" for the return to London scene really capture the spirit of the action on the screen. Other details such as the Nike "Swoosh" on the armor just add to the "don't take this too seriously" tone.
I suppose from looking at what others have written, this is a love it or hate it film. I think I got the joke and once I started looking at it from that perspective, found the movie very entertaining.

The most lavish feature built around Laurel and Hardy, 1934's March of the Wooden Soldiers is also the most bizarre. Opening unpromisingly with one of several mawkish numbers derived from Victor Herbert's musical Babes in Toyland, the antics of toyshop laborers Stannie Dum and Ollie Dee are worked into a scenario midway between Lewis Carroll and the Brothers Grimm. Nursery-rhyme characters come and go in a surreal fantasy, with the evil Mr. Barnaby threatening to evict Widow Peep from her shoe unless he receives her daughter Bo in marriage. The movie culminates in a full-scale invasion of Toyland by the yeti-ish Bogeymen and their defeat by the 100 six-foot wooden soldiers which Stan and Ollie have built by mistake. Henry Brandon gives a characterful performance, while 1930s child star Charlotte Henry is an appealing heroine. Directors Gus Meins and Charles R. Rogers milk the slapstick to an increasingly unnerving degree. Reputedly Hardy's favorite among the double act's features, March of the Wooden Soldiers emerges now as their most audacious screen appearance. --Richard Whitehouse

Inferior DVD presentation, there are better copies out there........2007-07-13
Skip this version, there is a better RESTORED version that offers the film in both B&W & Colorized versions:
March of the Wooden Soldiers
See the excellent reviews about that restoration.
Very good, maybe neccessary.......2007-06-08
Laurel and Hardy DON'T need to be in colour, they are perfect in B&W, however this is the one film that might be the exception. Even in B&W you can tell how glorious the film would be if the backgrounds and characters were in colour - and it works. It won't change your life but will make a brilliant film that bit better, and different.
March of the Wooden Soldiers.......2007-03-21
Just as I expected it would be. Great find!
Good Experience.......2007-03-09
The delivery of the merchandise was timely the picture clarity and product is excellent for a classic DVD. The overall experience was great!!!
A great Holiday Movie Classic.......2007-02-27
I remember this movie on TV every Thanksgiving when I was a kid. For some reason they stopped showing it in the mid 80's - to early 90's it has become a forgotten classic. Though I am not a fan of colorization for old B/W movies, I really like this version. It is very well done the colors do not look fake and bring out the details of the film which one could not always see in B and W. This movie color or Black and White is a true wonder to see. It is a gift from the not so distant past. The back drops and props bring in memories of the grand old amusement parks like Coney Island, or roadside America and The late Great Danbury Fair in CT. Full of fantasy and bewitching fun. Laurel and Hardy bring a magic to this film that should be seen by all. Buy it it is great for the kids and for the whole family

Ernest Dickerson, one-time cinematographer for Spike Lee and director of Demon Knight, said during the initial release of this film that he chose the project because he was a lifelong fan of the horror genre. Other horror fans should be thankful, because without Dickerson's enthusiasm and visual sense, this derivative gorefest wouldn't come close to the entertainment level that it ultimately achieves. The film was the first big- screen adaptation of HBO's Tales from the Crypt series, a show based on the EC comic books of the '50s. Like Creepshow before it, Demon Knight blends fair amounts of blood, sex, and knowing comedy with a paper-thin plot that doesn't leave a bit of room for subtext. Dickerson understands this, so instead he pumps the flick full of eye-popping visuals and gorgeous camerawork, and populates it with terrific character actors (especially Billy Zane, who really has fun, and William Sadler) who don't seem to care that their characters have little identity. Everyone seems to be giving this tiny project everything they've got, while never taking it seriously for a minute. We've seen the story before: A diverse bunch (a hooker, the town drunk, the ex-con, etc.) is locked in a rundown hotel and is forced to battle the Legions of Evil massed outside and determined to get in. Regardless, Dickerson, shooting with as little light as possible, manages to create some tense moments. There's a lot wrong with Demon Knight's shallow premise, and you could make a checklist of the movies it gleefully steals from (Night of the Living Dead and The Evil Dead are two of many), but thrill-seekers who prefer laughs with their grisly special effects and gratuitous nudity should have a mindless blast watching it. --Dave McCoy

Tales From Crypt: Demon Knight.......2007-05-13
Now those who want a great story line, great plot and a few jumps here and there this is a great find. Unlike its cousin film by the crypt keeper bordello of blood this movie has a little bit of something for everyone of corse following the rating of the film. This is another collecor Diamond in the ruff find, Great cast too. A must see, and must have for Tales From The Crypt fans.
I Wish There Would Have Been A Part 2.......2007-04-09
This very original movie was such a breathe of fresh air in the mid 90's when other so called horror movies were playing it safe. The ultimate battle between good and evil comes to a small road side town HO-tel. Billy Zane is great in this role as well as the supporting cast and the very lovely Jada Pinkett. The atmosphere in this movie fits so well. Very dark scenes and gore galore with a great plot turns out to be a great modern horror movie. The biggest crime is that there was only one installment. I want to know more!!!
One of the best, and most original, horror movies ever made........2007-01-04
I think the thing I like the most about this film is its plot, and how original it is. It involves a man who has been entrusted with the responsibility of protecting an ancient artifact and keep it from falling into the hands of dark forces. Ever since he was given this artifact, an arch-demon has been tracking him and he has been on the run for years. When he was given the artifact, a group of stars appeared as a tattoo in the center of the palm of his hand. Immediately, one of the stars moved toward the outside of his palm. Now, as the film opens, the final star is about to move to the outside of his palm and he knows his time is running out and he has to make his final stand. The arch-demon is close behind him as he approaches an old motel in a one-stoplight town in the desert. The people in that motel are in for a hell of a night as the stranger enters, and the arch-demon shows up soon after.
Everything is done right in this film. The action, the acting, the direction, the script, it's all there. This is truly a classic, unlike that other film bearing the Tales From The Crypt brand, Bordello of Blood, which is a total turkey (I'm planning on writing a review for that one, too, and totally blasting it to hell even though I'm sure three hundred other people already have).
Demon Knight is awesome. It's survival horror in the vein of a few zombie movies I can think of, but with a twist -- the monsters lurking in the darkness outside are demons, summoned from Hell by the arch-demon to aid him in killing the occupants of the motel and retrieving the ancient artifact. Billy Zane totally steals the show as the charismatic arch-demon, or "Demon Knight" of the title. This really is one of his best roles.
I highly reccommend this flick to any true horror fan. There are piles and piles of horror flicks out there that are just poorly-conceived, derivative garbage. This one stands out as one of the few truly original horror films made during the 90's. The story and plot are there, the pace is there, the thrills and chills are there, the gore is there, and it even throws in a little dark humor in places. Truly an excellent film, and in my opinion a modern classic.
BETTER THAN EVIL DEAD!! CREEPIER THAN NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD!!!!.......2006-10-27
The first and best of the movies from Tales From The Crypt!!!
About the movie: Is pure CREEPY SUSPENSEFULL HORROR with a GREAT INTERESTING story!!! Very easy to understand, cool production, good special effects and pretty bloody gory with some nudity!!!!
I think this movie is a mix of Evil Dead and Night of the Living Dead, but this story is WAY MUCH BETTER than Evil Dead and of course with better acting, cast, quality and special effects. The suspense is very look alike to Night of the Living Dead but of course the make-up is BETTER, no black and white picture and this time the zombies are UGLY demons that are harder to kill.
P.S: The best of all is that the intro is the same as the tv series!!!
Adios.
FUN, ENJOYABLE AND A GRADE ABOVE MANY HORROR FILMS!.......2006-10-09
This is one of those horror films that you would not think would be appealing. Let alone worthy of a four-star rating. However, the fact that this film [a little hokey in many parts] delivers and is one I have myself watched more than a few times, is a worthy addition in the horror genre. This is mainly due to the acting of (Billy Zane). As the primary antagonist in the film, (Zane) is after the key which holds the blood of Christ, and when he gets the key all the humans on earth, living and dead, will be subject to a new world order. An evil world order from the minion's of hell. [yeah I know it sounds silly]. But it works!
However, the main protagonist Brayker (William Sadler), is the holder of this ancient relic, and he had been guarding it for a long time. There have been many holders of this relic throughout time, and each have prevented the demons of hell from getting it. Brayker finds himself holed up in a beat-up and run-down boarding house with some very strange denizens who occupy the place. The film takes off quite fast, as the demonic 'Collector' (Billy Zane) attempts to get the key when he is helped by the local law enforcement. Things wrong [no spoilers] however and (Zane) finds himself battling the occupants and Brayker for the key. He does this by summoning up the demons from hell to help him.
Futhermore, the 'Collector' (Zane) is able to reach into the minds of those who occupy the building, promising them their greatest wish. Brayker warns the others who wish to leave that these are all empty promises. I always thought it would be good to have a part 2 of this episode. As the first one was a pretty good watch. Now I am not so sure. I think it would ruin the first one, which for some reason, I find an enjoyable, funny [and a bit gory] to be pretty darn good. Recommended for those who like the horror genre, even if the film is a little silly, it is very, very good and a very entertaining film. [Stars: 4.5]

"March of the Wooden Soldiers (1934) ... Laurel & Hardy ... Legend Films (2006)".......2007-09-09
Legend Films presents "MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS" (Released 14 December 1934) (77 mins) (Fully Restored/Dolby Digitally Remastered) --- now in COLOR and Glorious Black and White --- Babes in Toyland (re-released in 1948 as March of the Wooden Soldiers, alternative titles Laurel and Hardy in Toyland, Revenge Is Sweet, Wooden Soldiers) is a 1934 musical comedy film starring Laurel and Hardy. Based on Victor Herbert's popular 1903 operetta Babes in Toyland, the film was produced by Hal Roach, directed by Charley Rogers and Gus Meins, and released to theatres on November 12, 1934 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
Under Gus Meins (Director), Charles Rogers (Director), Hal Roach (Producer), Frank R. Butler (Screenwriter), Nick Grinde (Screenwriter), Francis Corby (Cinematographer), Art Lloyd (Cinematographer), Victor Herbert (From Musical by), Harry Jackson (Musical Direction/Supervision), Howard Jackson (Musical Direction/Supervision), Glen MacDonough (Songwriter), Bert Jordan (Editor), William Terhune (Editor) - - - - The 1934 version likewise features most of the characters in the stage version, but, again, an entirely new plot --- The film featured only five musical numbers from the enormous stage score, though that was plenty for a musical with only a 78-minute running time. Included in the film, in the order in which they were performed, were "Toyland", "Never Mind Bo-Peep", "Castle in Spain", "Go To Sleep (Slumber Deep)", and "March of the Toys", an instrumental piece and perhaps the most famous number in the score --- Almost all of the songs were performed by Bo Peep and Tom-Tom and none of them were performed by Laurel and/or Hardy (though they briefly danced/marched to "March of the Toys") --- the performances still hold up well in this day and age.
the cast includes:
Stan Laurel ... Stannie Dum
Oliver Hardy ... Ollie Dee
Charlotte Henry ... Little Bo-Peep
Felix Knight ... Tom-Tom Piper
Henry Brandon ... Silas Barnaby (as Harry Kleinbach)
Florence Roberts ... Mother Widow Peep
Virginia Karns ... Mother Goose
Marie Wilson ... Mary Quite Contrary
Johnny Downs ... Little Boy Blue
Richard Alexander ... King's Guard

In 2006, the complete print was restored and colorized by Legend Films, using the latest technology --- Although the Legend Films release was advertised under its reissue title, both the color and black and white prints featured the original title and opening credits --- Both colorized versions correctly depict Stan's hair as being auburn, not medium brown as it appears in other colorized Laurel and Hardy movies.
Laurel and Hardy were an American-based comedy duo who became famous during the early half of the 20th century for their work in motion pictures --- The members of the duo were the thin British-born-and-reared Stan Laurel and his heavier American partner from the state of Georgia, Oliver Hardy --- The pair are considered among the most famous and finest double acts in cinema history --- Each brought talents from his solo career to the team.
The two comedians worked together briefly in 1919 on The Lucky Dog released in 1921 --- After a period appearing separately in several short films for the Hal Roach studio during the 1920s, they began appearing in movie shorts together in 1926, and Laurel and Hardy officially became a team in 1927 --- They became Hal Roach's most famous and lucrative stars --- Among their most popular and successful films were the features Sons of the Desert (1933), Way Out West (1937), and Block-Heads (1938); and the shorts Big Business (1929), Helpmates (1932), and their Academy Award-winning short, The Music Box (1932).
The pair left the Roach studio in 1940, then appeared in eight low-budget comedies for 20th Century Fox and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer --- From 1945 to 1950, they did not appear on film and concentrated on their stage show --- They made their last film, Atoll K, in France in 1950 and 1951 before retiring from the screen --- In total, they appeared together in 106 films --- They starred in 40 short sound films, 32 short silent films and 23 feature films, and in the remaining 11 films, had a guest or cameo appearance. (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Legend Films can restore, colorize and release many of the classic earliest black and white films --- a patented coloring and remastering process makes each film picture perfect plus more vivd than ever --- no one can resist collecting every title that Legend Films releases.

Sandrew Ph.D. (Founder, COO & CTO) and his Legend Films Staff --- looking forward to more high quality releases from the vintage era of the '20s, '30s & '40s --- order your copy now from Amazon where there are plenty of copies available on DVD --- if you enjoyed this title, why not check out Legend Films where they are experts in releasing long forgotten films and treasures to the collector.

March of the Wooden Soldiers.......2007-06-20
Antique children's movie retains its magic, thanks to a charming, refreshingly simple rendering of Toyland and its citizens, some cute songs, and the irresistible antics of Laurel and Hardy as the movie's hapless heroes. Best for smaller kids and their parents (though more suggestible tykes might get a small scare out of Bogeyland's denizens). In sum, this is a sweet movie that harkens back to a more innocent, fanciful time, while showcasing an immortal comedy team.
This is a great holiday movie.......2007-05-26
Some like it colored and some don't. Ether way this based on a 1903 Victor Herbert operetta, film released in 1934 as "Babes in Toyland," and is still fun to watch.
Now the basic plot is to keep Mother Peep's (Florence Roberts) shoe from being foreclosed on by the evil landlord Silas Barnaby (Henry Brandon) when this fails Bo Peep has to marry Barnaby to keep the shoe. Now to keep Little Bo Peep from having to marry Barnaby, it involves Barnaby being tricked into marrying Stanley Dum dressed up as Bo in Bo Peep's place. Naturally Barnaby can not be fooled long and must have his revenge by letting lose the bogeymen from their caverns to destroy Toyland.
Does he succeed in his evil ways?
Who can stop him and how?
All in all it is a must to complete the holiday collection.
Displaced from NY/NJ .......2007-03-24
Growing up as a kid in the NY metro Area, March of the Wooden Soldiers was always on WPIX Channel 11 every Thanksgiving. It had become a tradition in the family to watch it every year. After being transferred to Maryland, I have been unable to find it on any station (all 385 on cable). This version has both the colorized and the ORIGNAL Black & White version on the disc. It is wonderful!! Worth every penny for the memories and to keep the tradition alive with my children.
Just as I didn't remember it!.......2007-01-19
March of the Wooden Soldiers/Babes in Toyland was one of those movies that brought pleasant memories to each and every Holiday season since my childhood. I purchased the "colorized" version so that I could share some of that Holiday magic with my grandchildren. My granddaughter watched it four times in one day, including the black and white version just so she could see what PaPa saw when he was a kid. I believe she will share this movie with her children and grandchildren in years to come.
Although there were a few fuzzy moments early on in the movie, the colorization was fantastic. Hard to believe it was originally a black and white movie. Having both the old Black & White and the new colorized version on the same disk was like getting two movies for the price of one. Also, the old b&w toy commercials were great. Amazing what we played with back then compared to XBOX or Playstation 3!
The movie itself was a bit corny, the characters were child like and the Bogey monsters looked like mom's old shag carpeting come to life. My granddaughter couldn't take her eyes off the TV. At first she laughed at the singing (after all I told her, it is a musical!) By the third viewing, she knew the words to the songs.
I loved every minute of the movie. The three little pigs were my granddaughter's favorite and we all enjoyed the mouse and the cat and the fiddle.
