Arguably the most talked-about television show of the 2006-2007 season, the Emmy-nominated fantasy Heroes gives viewers blends comic book-style adventure with plotting and characters as rich and layered as any graphic novel or drama series. Creator Tim Kring's premise is deceptively simple - ordinary individuals in locations around the globe discover that they have, for lack of a better term, super powers, and wrestle with this reality while facing challenges both global (the destruction of New York City, for one) and personal (indestructible cheerleader Hayden Panetierre has family issues - serious ones, as the true identity of her adoptive father reveals; Milo Ventimiglia's Peter Petrelli, who absorbs other powers, must overcome his own insecurities). Add to this mix a terrific villain - Zachary Quinto's Sylar, who hunts and kills people with extraordinary powers like our heroes - and viewers have a riveting series that exhibits an almost-perfect balance of cliffhanger thrills (the action and special effects are truly impressive for a network program) and genuine drama that sets the show apart from most speculative fiction (save, perhaps, the revived Battlestar Galactica, which it compares too favorably). The seven-disc set of Heroes: Season One offers a wealth of extras for fans, who may be familiar with some of them through the NBC.com website, especially the cast commentaries, which are featured on half of the episodes. Kring is featured on the 73-minute uncut pilot episode, which for some viewers, may be even better than the network version; the main difference is the degree of character development, including an entire storyline for D.L. Hawkins that isn't featured in the broadcast version. Also on deck are some 50 deleted scenes from the episodes, several by-the-books making-of featurettes, including coverage of the special effects and stunt work, and a profile of artist Tim Sale, whose illustrations are used for Isaac Mendez's prophetic artwork. Prospective buyers should note that while all of these supplemental features are included on the HD-DVD version of this set, the special Web-connectivity elements are not available here. -- Paul Gaita

Amazing.......2007-09-13
This series is definitely the best one that I've seen in years. In a world of nothing but junking television, it was such a pleasant surprise to buy this set and actually like it. It's like a DC version of X-men - troubled, dark, very human characters. No regrets on this one!
Heroes - The Most Amazing Series Debut of 2006-2007 Season.......2007-09-13
This box set was released simultaneously in a great amount of countries, including here in Brazil. Since "Lost" debut, I have never seen any other TV series that caused so much buzz in the local market as "Heroes" is causing right now. Success on paid TV (episodes are aired here with an average delay of four months after its original exhibition on US broadcast TV) and, apparently, success also on DVD, as stores are flooded with posters and full shelves with a lot of boxes waiting for its customers.
I own this box set and still have not finished watching it yet (just the first five episodes, maybe I'll be done with all discs within two weeks from today on), and from the few I've seen, I should say that this show is smartly conceived, well produced and an eye-catching attraction. Although I haven't watched the other episodes yet, I have the notion of how this ends by the first season finale with the destiny of each of the newly found "Heroes" already connected amongst themselves. Hiro is the most funny character of the show. He's fun even when he's serious...my favorite hero.
Expectations for the second season (premiere date is just around the corner) are very high and Tim Kring (the creator of the show) will have a tough task for the next weeks to keep ourselves tuned into the next episodes. Such elaborated plots are attractive while they can and I hope that it won't go the same way as "24" or just get "Lost" too soon. For the time being, "Heroes" is, in my honest opinion, the most pleasant surprise of the last 2006-2007 season. This is a box worth buying. Go ahead and enjoy it.
AWESOME SHOW!!!.......2007-09-13
I just have to say that this is one of the best new show on Television. The writers really let you know who these characters are. Put that together with great story lines, and superb special effects and you have a winner on your hands. If you didn't watch the show when it aired on TV, now is your chance to Catch up and get with the best new show of the year.
Awesome.......2007-09-12
When on TV, I started watching Heroes towards the end of the season, so I am eagerly waiting to watch this series from episode 1 and re-watch the episodes I have already seen. Worth watching again and again.
Heroes with a difference............2007-09-11
First I was not expecting much but this show did deliver on all fronts.
True power and great assembly of cast, well structured main plots and side plots. Awesome story telling, some great guest surprising actors (Christopher Eccleson etc)
However both in imagination and scale, combined with all out talent & even if you loath it. The intelligence & spirit of this show is beyond any other embodied most in Peters character yet present in leaps and bounds in all the others.
It makes you think, it gave some true iconic depth & appeal the imagery in the pilot alone shows how far reaching one little show can be. Worth every penny & cannot wait till season 2 finely gets all the way to Scotland.
Great viewing & hope when season 2 arrives that it is half as good as this by the way - Homecoming was an epic among some other great stand alone episodes.
More please!

Thank goodness for second seasons. While the first season of The Office started dubiously with a pilot that was just a poor copy of the original British version, it did manage to provide enough good material to stay on the air and hint that better was yet to come. And here it is. The second season of The Office finds its own footing and manages to do the near-impossible by not only breaking free of the gravity of that excellent BBC version to stand solidly on its own, but establishing it as one of the best comedies on TV. Season 2 starts out strong with "The Dundies," where Regional Manager, Michael Scott (Steve Carell, The 40 Year Old Virgin) hosts the company's annual office-awards event with his signature less-than-perfect grace. Things seem to only get worse for him this season as he bumbles a potential affair with his boss, Jan (Melora Harding), angers his employees by reading their emails ("Email Surveillance"), cooks his foot ("The Injury"), and accidentally destroys the warehouse with a forklift in "Boys and Girls," one of the season's highlight episodes. Always at his side is the clueless paranoid Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), the Assistant Regional Manager ("Assistant to the Regional Manager," Michael always reminds him in one of the show's running jokes).
One of the reasons for the show's improvement in the second season is increased focus on Dwight's character, who's becoming something of a pop-culture icon right down to having his own bobblehead. He in turn provides so much good material for Pam (Jenna Fischer) and Jim (John Krasinsky) to play off of, to their own amusement. But of course, Pam and Jim's simmering relationship is the real meat of the show, as their compatibility becomes more obvious, Jim's feelings for her continue to grow, and Pam struggles with the impending marriage to her less-than-caring boyfriend, Roy (David Denman). Things have to come to a head, and they do nicely in the final episode, "Casino Night." As strong as the leading characters are in The Office, it's the excellent peripheral characters that really make the show hilarious, especially dimwitted office-slug Kevin (Brian Baumgartner), long-suffering intern Ryan (B.J. Novak), office-ditz Kelly (Mindy Kaling), and ultra-conservative Angela (Angela Kinsey). As with season 1, this season contains excellent bonus features to give you an excuse to spend more time at The Office, including the fake PSAs, commentaries, Michael's The Faces of Scranton movie, the ten stand-alone webisodes, and deleted scenes. --Daniel Vancini
Description
Steve Carell (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, The Daily Show) stars in The Office, a fresh and funny mockumentary-style glimpse into the daily interactions of the eccentric workers at the Dunder Mifflin paper supply company. Based on the smash-hit British series of the same name and adapted for American Television by Greg Daniels (King of the Hill, The Simpsons), this fast-paced comedy parodies contemporary American water-cooler culture. Earnest but clueless regional manager Michael Scott (Carell) believes himself to be an exceptional boss and mentor, but actually receives more eye-rolls than respect from his oddball staff. Entertainment Weekly calls The Office "smart and trenchant," and all six hilarious season one episodes are available here on DVD for the first time. The awkward silences in The Office will have you laughing out loud!
It's time to clock in for Season Two of The Office, the comically honest look at the world of white-collar employment. Steve Carell (The 40-Year-Old Virgin) won a Golden Globe for his role as Michael Scott, the sometimes pathetic but always hilarious regional manager of Dunder-Mifflin paper supply company. Join him and the amazing ensemble cast (Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer and B.J. Novak) as Michael, Dwight, Jim, Pam and Ryan navigate the hidden romance and open absurdity of the business world, from the Christmas party to sexual harassment training to the "Booze Cruise" retreat to the heartbreak of "Casino Night." Developed by Greg Daniels (King of the Hill, The Simpsons), fully staffed with all 22 outrageous episodes and packed with hours of laugh-ot-loud bonus features, The Office: Season Two is the must-own cure for the workday blues.

This item did not come on town and I have since returned it. I purchased it from another store as a result. It is a good DVD.
Hilarious!.......2007-09-13
My husband and I watch this series together since we both work in the corporate world and find this show totally hilarious!! If we want to de-stress, we just slip in these DVDs and laugh non-stop. I can't wait to buy the full series. Highly recommended!
I wish this was worth watching..........2007-09-13
I am a huge fan of the bbc version and would be happy to watch new episodes of a similarly brilliant show. This however is not the case. This show takes every subtle comedic nuance of the original and has steve carrell beat you over the head with it. Maybe americans are too dumb to know the difference, but thats why this show has 300 some odd 5 star reviews in the first place. Way to go USA, you continue to drive me one step closer to completely abandoning all faith in what you have to offer.
Another POOR Imitation.......2007-09-07
If I could rate this at 0 stars I would. This is yet another knockoff of a BBC hit show. Episode 1 is almost word for word verbatim to the first episode of the British version. Aren't there any real screenwriters in Hollywood anymore. Very, Very, Very disappointing to say the least.
Most Addictive Show I've Seen.......2007-09-07
The only other show that I've lost sleep on a work night for was the first 3 seasons of Sopranos (I know the two have nothing in common). I won't summarize the show, but I want to tell anyone who has not seen this show, to please, please, give it until the second season to decide whether or not you like it. The first season is good, but the storylines don't thicken until the second season, and that is when it gets super fun/addictive.

IS THIS REALLY HD? .......2007-09-14
I dont know about the other reviews, but i was watching the third "HD DVD" from the series last night, on my Panasonic 50" 1080p, and it looks like a ST DVD,is this really a HD? or my sight is getting second effects from heros and its getting more accurate? either way, not one of the best HD DVD (TALKING ABOUT VIDEO)....
4 starts for that..
About the serie ITS AMAZING.. NOW I HAVE TO GO BACK IN TIME TO SAVE THE WORLD!!
Fan- Freaking-Tastic!.......2007-09-10
I re-watched the entire series over Labor Day weekend and loved it! I didn't have my HD dish until mid-season so I missed the premiere etc in high def- these disks definitely make for a great viewing experience. I liked the tons of deleted scenes and the easy to navigate menus. I am a big fan of disks with the option to either watch a single episode or to play through. Universal doesn't have any long boring repetitive intros to HD disks like other studios who will remain nameless....
Heroes itself is one of my favorite new shows and this is a stellar presentation package in brilliant HD video with great sound! Watching on my 65 inch HD tv with my Bose home theater system it was great!
5-star show, 4-star set.......2007-09-10
"Heros" is a great show. If you're considering buying this set, you likely already know this. And the content is worth it. The transfer is visually stellar. The sound mix is clear and crisp with good balance across my 5.1 set-up. The extras are plentiful and in-show experience is put to good use. My only complaint, and the only thing holding back that final star, is the packaging itself. It's unnecessarily bulky and unweildly when you're trying to get to discs 5-7. That's assuming you can even get it out of the slipcase. Why plastic pasted on cardboard is a more elegant solution that slimline cases is beyond me. But, anyway, dig it out and enjoy. I was able to compare the HD to the standard DVD playing on an Onkyo XP-1000 upconverted to 1080i via HDMI and there really is no comparison. Even scaled down to 780p, these discs are noticably sharper with better contrast and color.
a must have.......2007-09-08
i'm a fan of the show and this is the perfect way to watch it beautiful picture great sound. if you like the show and you have a hd-dvd player you would be doing yourself a serious injustice if you dont buy this set.
Noup , no spanish subtitles.......2007-09-08
I dont understan why isnt in spanish, i think was a mistake by universal, a big mistake because DVD format it's in spanish so why HD doesnt .. i think was intentional by universal, in México a hidef dvd is so expensive, soon we'll see an heroes-hd version for lationoamerica i'm sure..maybe next year... sooo sad.. :(
see you next time,

With its fantastic comedy series Weeds, cable network Showtime finally gave up its also-ran status to HBO and found itself with a controversial, buzz-worthy show that was as hilarious as it was dark, one about a truly desperate housewife. A recent widow with two growing sons, Nancy Botwin (Golden Globe winner Mary-Louise Parker) looks like a typical resident of the affluent Southern California suburb of Agrestic. She keeps a clean, upscale house (with the help of a live-in maid), attends PTA meetings, goes to her kids' soccer games, makes frequent stops at the local coffee franchise.... and sells marijuana in order to make it all possible. Left with no way to support herself after her beloved husband's fatal heart attack, Nancy turns herself into the "suburban baroness of bud," dealing to her neighbors in the area, with the help of her supplier Heylia (Tonye Patano) and point man Conrad (Romany Malco). Nancy's clients run from the local councilman (Kevin Nealon) to the just-barely-legal students at the local community college, but many in Agrestic are still in the dark as to how she keeps her family afloat, including her best friend, the sardonic Celia (Elizabeth Perkins), a wife and mother whose blistering, withering put-downs could make Dorothy Parker cringe in fear. But like many small-business owners, Nancy yearns for more success and cash, and like her workaholic neighbors, finds keeping a balance between work life and home life to be extremely precarious at best.
While Desperate Housewives yearned to be a suburban satire with bite, Weeds was the real deal, skewering upper-middle class mores with a sharp eye, a keen wit, and a mostly forgiving heart. In episode after episode, the show's creative team (led by creator Jenji Kohan) pulled back the layers of Agrestic's superficiality to show what lies beneath the squeaky-clean exteriors and smiling faces; it turns out that hunger, fear, desire, and, yes, desperation aren't that far down. However, Weeds forsakes pulpiness and florid drama for biting yet affectionate humor--its heroine is a woman with sliding morals, but one you'll root for to the very end. The effervescent Parker, the only actress who can mix perkiness with morbidity in just the right amounts, anchored the show with her amazing turn as Nancy, who by the end of the first season had become a kind of soccer-mom version of Michael Corleone, entering a corrupt world with both trepidation and fascination--and totally enamored of the power it brought her. Also perfectly cast, Perkins found the role of a lifetime as the bitterly hilarious Celia, and entering the show in its fourth episode, Justin Kirk (Parker's co-star in Angels in America) proved to be a potent secret weapon as Nancy's brother-in-law Andy, a slacker who wasn't above peddling t-shirts to elementary school kids. As icky as these characters might appear on the surface, Weeds made them all immensely appealing and great company to be around. Don't say we didn't warn you: one hit and you'll be hooked on this show. The DVDs feature six episode commentaries with cast and crew, outtakes, original featurettes, a music video, and most enjoyably, Agrestic Herbal Recipes (for entertainment value only, we assume) and the "Smoke and Mirrors" marijuana mockumentary. --Mark Englehart

Heard alot about this show but never saw it. I figured the entire first season for less than $12 what could go wrong. Loved it from the first episode. I even have switched from HBO to Showtime just so I can watch season 3, lol.
Fantastic.......2007-08-23
What a gem of a show. It starts exactly how it means to go on. Skipping tedious exposition, Weeds dives straight into the messy, complicated lives of its messy, complicated characters. It's funny, it's moving, it's bittersweet. The political and emotional authenticity of the writing will whiten the hair of the average bible thumping mid westerner, but let them take succour from the whitebread lies found in middle of the road network TV shows. This show has a whole more fun rolling in the ditch.
weeds season 1 DVD.......2007-08-23
Showtime series "WEEDS" season 1 this is a great TV show which I follow on showtime. It's about a suburban wife forced into dealing pot to suport her family after her husbands death. Well written and funny. I would recommed the series and the DVD box sets for fans of the show.

Season 1
Twin Peaks devotees, who have kept the mystery alive on myriad Web sites, will jump at the chance to return to the spooky town that might just be the anti-Mayberry. Rarely syndicated, the Twin Peaks television series has lost none of its quirky and queasy power to get under your skin and haunt your dreams. So brew up a pot of some "damn fine coffee," dig into some cherry pie, and lose yourself in David Lynch and Mark Frost's murder mystery and soap opera, which unfolds, in one character's words, "like a beautiful dream and terrible nightmare all at once." Twin Peaks was a pop culture phenomenon for one season at least, until the increasingly bizarre twists and maddening teases so confounded audiences that they lost interest in just who killed Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). This series was a career peak for most of its eclectic ensemble cast, including Kyle MacLachlan as straight-arrow FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, Michael Ontkean as local Sheriff Harry S. Truman, Sherilyn Fenn as bad girl Audrey Horne, Peggy Lipton as waitress Norma Jennings, and Catherine Coulson as the Log Lady. Alumni enjoying current success include Lara Flynn Boyle ("The Practice"), as good girl Donna Hayward, and Miguel Ferrer ("Crossing Jordan"), hilarious as forensics expert Albert Rosenfield (who has absolutely no "social niceties").--Donald Liebenson
Season 2
"Don't search for all the answers at once," says a giant appearing to FBI Agent Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) in a vision. "A path is formed by laying one stone at a time." In Twin Peaks, that's easier said than done. Over the course of two seasons, that path went nowhere and everywhere. "Bureau guidelines, deductive technique, Tibetan method, and luck" don't cut it here. It also takes a little magic, which is what makes David Lynch and Mark Frost's bracingly original serial drama one of TV's ultimate trips, and still the stuff that fever dreams are made of. With the DVD release of season 2, die-hard Peakers can rekindle their obsession with this macabre, maddening, sinister, and surreal series set in the rural Pacific Northwest community whose bucolic surroundings hide "things dark and heinous." (If you're new to Twin Peaks, best to get the lay of the land by watching the brilliant feature-length pilot and the instant-cult-classic first season, which capture Twin at its peak.) Three main mysteries drive season 2. First, there's the still (!) unresolved murder of Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). Then, there's the question of who shot Cooper in the season 1 cliffhanger. And finally, ultimately: What about Bob? With its dream logic, bizarre behavior, and nightmare imagery, much of what transpires goes right by you. Some subplots (Sherilyn Fenn's sexpot Audrey held captive at the bordello, One-Eyed Jacks) are easier to latch on to than others (amnesiac Nadine believes she's an 18-year-old high schooler) And, yes, that's a pre-X-Files David Duchovny as Dennis/Denice, a transsexual DEA agent.
In Twin Peaks' second season, the truth is out there, but we are entering A Few Good Men territory. When Laura's killer is at last revealed in episode 16, no doubt many will not be able to handle the truth. The teases, red herrings, and out-and-out gonzo looniness will try the patience of viewers with a more conventional bent. But, as Cooper observes at one point, "All in all, [it's] a very interesting experience," with enough doppelgangers, allusions, pop-culture references, and in-jokes to keep bloggers buzzing. If, for example, you get any pleasure from recognizing Hank Worden, who played Mose in The Searchers, as "the world's most decrepit room service waiter," then Twin Peaks may just make you feel right at home. --Donald Liebenson

Taste That Famous Cherry Pie
The Recipe
8 inch Crust: 1-1/2 c. flour, 1/2 c. Crisco, 1/4 c. ice water
Mix flour and Crisco with fork. Add ice water. Mix with your hands. When blended, roll into ball and refrigerate overnight. To roll out: flour both rolling pin and flat surface, split ball in two, roll out 1/2 to fit pan and 1/2 for lattice.
Filling: 3 c. cherries (pitted, sour frozen); 1 c. water; 1c. Baker's sugar; 4 T. cornstarch; 1/8 t. salt
Thaw cherries at room temp and strain (yields 2 c. juice). Taste for sweetness, more/less sugar may be needed. Add 1 c. water to make 3 c. juice (reserve 1 c. juice for cornstarch mix). Dissolve cornstarch in 1 c. juice, stir with whip. Combine 2 c. juice, 2/3 c. sugar, salt, and bring to a boil. Add cornstarch mix, cook until clear, about 5 min. (if cooked to long, syrup gets gummy). Remove from heat, stir in 1/3 c. sugar (blend thoroughly). Pour mixture over cherries, fold with wooden spoon, cool (stir mix while cooling to prevent scum from forming on top). Pour mix in pie shell. Top completed pie with lattice crust.
Bake @ 425 degrees for 35-40 min.

HUH! I just bought season 2!!!.......2007-09-13
This really hacks me off. They just released season 2 and now they want you to pay more for the entire series boxed set.
It wouldn't be so bad if season one and the pilot were readily available, but now that first season set is hard to find.
I suppose this has to do with all the copyright issues that delayed the season two release in the first place. Arrg!!
This is also why I stopped buying all those versions of LOTR and Star Wars. These greedy producers want to take the fans for as much as they can and usually, we fall for it
Previously on Twin Peaks.......2007-09-13
When our company released the full 27 episode series on DVD we held an al day screening in a London Cinema (digital projection) for promotion of the video's availability. This was publicized in local papers and we were amazed at the costumes the audience showed up in. The location in Leicester Square is like New York's Times Square and bizarrely dressed Log Ladies, Mounties and "dead" Laura Palmers turned Twin Peaks into a Rocky Horror Show rival. So strong was the impression made that the London Times covered the story and our video release was nicely served. Historically speaking, the 27 episodes released on 10 Videos was a first for the video industry.
A little late.......2007-09-13
I knew it was coming. I should have held off on buying the second season, but the suspense was killing me so I purchased it when it came out when it came out this past April. I hope Paramount is providing plenty of extras to justify this deluxe edition other than a gold wrapping, as the pilot was included in the Special Edition Season One box set. If they had gotten their act together the first time and released it all in one box set, we wouldh't have had to go trough this ordeal.
It has been eight years since Season One was released on DVD without the crucial pilot episode, which so galled Twin Peaks fans that two years later Universal released an attractive special edition that included the pilot as well as additional material with the ghostly image of Laura Palmer underneath her portrait. Then came another long wait before the Second Season was finally released early this year in a rather bland format by Paramount, with little in the way of extra features other than log lady intros.
During this time there have been various bootleg DVD sets as well as more polished releases of the complete series. If Parmount, Universal and other studios want to avoid piracy they should get their act together and treat television series in their entirety, not release them piecemeal, with long waits in between seasons. It really made no sense at all in the case of Twin Peaks, which only ran for two seasons, a total of 29 episodes plus the two-hour pilot episode.
The Gold Box Edition is long overdue, but of course it comes with a hefty price tag. One can only hope that it is more polished than was the release of Season Two, finally bringing to rest the long running controversy surrounding the DVD release of this great television series.
Quit your griping, it's finally here.......2007-09-11
Sure, I tracked down and shelled out for a region-free dubious-quality version of the pilot from some fly-by-night overseas company. And some of you bought the first bare bones season one box set. But we all knew this would be coming some day (as sure as David Lynch needs coffee and pie money). And we'd be all over it. So, just bask in the short term master hunter victory of having bagged that stuff early, get over it, and look forward to the all frills edition. And light up (because that's the only way you'll ever understand this thing).

TV Peaks with David Lynch.......2007-09-09
This is an ultimate goldmine for holdouts pining for the full series set! I've had an almost complete collection of the original Twin Peaks broadcasts in my videotape collection for many years. (I'm missing the episode where Josie Packard somehow becomes one with the wood grain, or whatever - not sure if that's a spoiler or even what happened because I haven't seen that episode since it was broadcast in '91.) So it's been a long wait to replace those old worn tapes (complete with ancient pre-web commercials) and in the meantime I've seen and collected most of Mr. Lynch's features (and some shorts recently shown on TCM.) It'll be a real pleasure to meet up with the ever-mysterious TP gang once again and while I worshipped TP and continue to fervently await my pre-order to be filled by Amazon (appropriately around Halloween), I hope that those reading this have also moved on to see his other wonderful works too, especially Mulholland Dr., the definitive movie about Los Angeles (I was living in the middle of Hollywood when I first saw it) and The Straight Story.

Hedonistic bachelor Charlie (Charlie Sheen) is a jingles writer who, he blithely states, makes a lot of money for doing very little work, sleeps with beautiful women who don't ask about his feelings, drives a Jag and lives at the beach, and sometimes, in the middle of the day, for no reason at all, likes to make himself a big pitcher of margaritas and take a nap out on the sundeck. His brother, Alan (Jon Cryer), evicted from his house by his soon-to-be-ex-wife, is "rigid, inflexible, uptight, obsessive and anal-retentive." Charlie and Alan are "twisted Jungian archetypes," according to series co-creator Chuck Lorre in one of this set's bonus features. If by "twisted Jungian archetypes," he means Oscar and Felix from The Odd Couple, then yes, Charlie and Alan are "twisted Jungian archetypes," and this inaugural season finds rich comic tension in their period of adjustment. Charlie is a Man Behaving Badly, whose idyllic life is upended when "fuddy-duddy" Alan moves in, accompanied by his impressionable 10-year-old son, Jake (Angus T. Jones), with whom he shares custody with his iceberg-cold, sexually confused (a comic conceit thankfully abandoned by season's end) estranged wife, Judith (Marin Hinkle). Alan is a single father who is appalled by his amoral brother's lifestyle and by the influence Charlie might have on Jake ("Uncle Charlie, I understand the point spread, but I'm still confused about the vig"). And then there's Berta (effortless scene-stealer Conchata Ferrell), Charlie's formidable, tart-tongued housekeeper who is initially driven out the door by Alan's fussiness ("The peanut butter stains on Jake's shirts really require an enzyme presoak").
Two and a Half Men is a guy show that sets feminism back a good three decades. Women are portrayed as either bimbonic objects of lust (Transformers' Megan Fox guest stars as Berta's teenage granddaughter), vengeful and retaliative (Heather Locklear as Alan's divorce lawyer), crazy hot (Jenna Elfman as an unstable single mother on the run), or emasculating (Holland Taylor as Charlie and Alan's mother, or, as Charlie refers to her, "Mom, the Impaler"). The charming Melanie Lynskey's is a particularly thankless role, that of Rose, Charlie's "insightful and disturbing" stalker, who becomes Jake's babysitter. While Charlie's "bad-boy act" could quickly get old in lesser hands, Sheen, in the past not the most natural of comic actors, is in his element. Charlie's genuine affection for Jake goes a long way toward redeeming his character (and lack of it). Two and a Half Men, a People's Choice Award-winner its first season, really adds up with a crudely funny sense of humor that is all kinds of wrong, but also smart and, at times, even sweet. --Donald Liebenson

Hilarious!!.......2007-09-01
This is the funniest show on television today. I can't believe that US audiences have had to wait so long to get this DVD set. I can't wait to see it. I didn't start watching until it moved into the time slot Raymond was in so I missed the early years. Does anyone who already has the set know if the vanity cards that display (ever so briefly) at the end of every show are on the DVDs? They are hysterical also. If you don't know what I'm talking about go to Chuck Lorre's website and check them out. You have to pause the show right at the end to see them. It's easy with Tivo and so worth it! I'm ordering my set today. Bring on season 2 (and 3, etc!!).
Charlie Sheen Saves His Career.......2007-08-08
Charlie Sheen saved his career with this show....This show is hilarious mostly due to the comic timing of Sheen and Cryer.....Sheen is basically playing a version of himself (minus the drug abuse that has plagued him in the past) Cryer does the whole neurotic thing to a T, showing why the producers of Friends were wrong to pass over him for the role of Ross (yes, true story) The only negative is the kid..There is no need for him..The show could be an all out R rated comedy similar to Married With Children in edginess but the kid is not a fit..He cant act and is out of place..He should be on Hannah Montana as Hannah's dorky fat friend and not on this show......It will be funny in a year or two to see what the writers and producers do when the kid is 14 years old and 200 pounds all those cutesy fart jokes just wont cut it....More Charlie, more Jon, more of the mother, LESS of the kid
It's about time!.......2007-05-28
Finally this show is on DVD. I thought it would never happen! Keep them coming! Kudo's to Charlie and Company, I don't think there has ever been a funnier show made. May we have many, many years until it's "Two and a half Old Men"! John, Arlington TX.
A SITCOM THAT DREW CONSISTENT LAUGHS.......2007-05-27
Most of my friends who have seen this show wouldn't think twice before they concurred: it's flat out hilarious. I had my reservations about Charlie Sheen in a role not unlike his cameo at the tail-end of Spin City--a suave yuppie and a consummate Lothario--but he is the delight of this party! Few can fit so snugly in the role of a relaxed, affluent young retiree lounging in his Malibu seafront apartment when he's not effortlessly schmoozing with the opposite gender. He's at his wry sharpest.
There's excellent chemistry between him and Jon Cryer, who plays his uptight, righteous elder brother. As they tackle mature subjects such as frivolous relationships and artificial insemination and pretty much everything that surrounds this nature of things, the brother's smart-mouthed son is kept ever so cleverly in the dark. These parallel tracks of young and old humor lend the show some sparkling dimensions. The little boy, Angus Jones, is a natural. Some of us may have seen him at the Emmy Awards last year. An outspoken housekeeper, a domineering mother, and a cutting curmudgeon of an ex-wife round out an ensemble cast; any episode featuring Holland Taylor's portrayal of a prim and proper modern-day mom of the two brothers in her crisp Chanel skirts and bright red lipstick can almost guarantee a laugh-riot.
The true hallmark of a successful sitcom is the degree to which you end up warming up to its characters. Amidst its spate of one-liners, 2&1/2 Men does a fairly decent job of making viewers relate to its characters. None of these archetypal characters is new, but each is idiosyncratic without being wildly over-the-top. There are even some touching episodes such as the one when Charlie's favorite neighborhood girl sets off to a distant destination, leaving his supposedly wooden heart all aflutter.
If the recent drought of funny shows on TV is any indication, sitcoms are no cakewalk. There have only been a handful of the truly funny ones that did not run out of steam in their later days and kudos to the scriptwriters for making 2&1/2 Men belong plushly in that elite league! I must say I am not pleased with the damage that this 'introductory price' may wreak on your wallet, but that's a minor quibble for a DVD you know you're going to be watching more than once.
Germany has 2nd season out on DVD!.......2007-05-19

Season one of Prison Break is great television. Here's the set-up. Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) is framed and wrongfully convicted for assassinating the Vice President's brother. Lincoln's brother Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller), who just happens to have designed Illinois' Fox River Penitentiary where Lincoln is on death row, hatches an elaborate escape plan. Michael's plan involves getting himself incarcerated in Fox River and smuggling the prison's blueprints by having them hidden in tattoos that cover his entire torso. Once inside, Michael must form alliances with a rogue's gallery of felons with their own sometimes unsavory motives. Meanwhile, on the outside, Lincoln's lawyer and one-time girlfriend Veronica Donovan (Robin Tunney), pursued by Secret Service agents, attempts to unravel the conspiracy that sent her man to the slammer.
Prison Break is anchored by tight, suspenseful writing clearly relished by the largely little-known cast. Standouts include Robert Knepper as the murderer/pedophile T-Bag, who somehow makes such a despicable character likeable. Stacey Keach of Mike Hammer fame plays the warden-with-a-heart-of-gold, who clashes with Captain Brad Bellick (Wade Williams) over whether to rehabilitate the inmates or makes their lives more miserable. Peter Stormare, famous for his skills with a wood chipper in Fargo, turns in a deliciously menacing performance as mob boss John Abruzzi, while Amaury Nolasco's winsome Fernando Sucre shares a cell and secrets with Miller's Scofield. Watching the show one gets a sense that this is the opening salvo of Wentworth Miller's career, which will doubtless include roles as assassins, detectives, super heroes, and perhaps the champion of staring contests. Midway through the season it's explained that Scofield is a genius with an heightened sensitivity to other peoples' suffering, which sums up what makes the show so great--the mind-bendingly intricate plot is a framework for moments when people make others suffer and cope with the burden of their own suffering.
The six-disc set includes 22 addictive episodes, audio commentary on selected episodes, three featurettes, and alternate and deleted scenes. As with most TV shows on DVD, the "previously on Prison Break" intros can get tiresome, but that's what the fast forward button is for. --Ryan Boudinot

An Addictive Series.......2007-09-11
I am neither a TV person nor a drama person. But the unique qualities of Prison Break have captivated me like a kind of irresistable drug. The story is well-written, the actings are superb.
I find Prison Break as a prism which speculates the duality of human beings. Good ones can be bad and bad ones can be good, well, at least sometimes. And of course, Wentworth Miller is a fantastic actor who suits the role perfectly. I would highly recommend Prison Break to anyone who are still intellectually active and morally aware of the injustice which happens in this society. 5+ stars.
One of the best!.......2007-09-04
This has to be one of the best television series of all time. The acting and writing is outstanding. The action scenes are filmed very well and the puzzle that the writers try to have you piece together is exciting.
A must see for any action junkie or the viewer that loves great acting and writing.
Nail biting Television Adventure!.......2007-09-03
Part adventure, part soap opera, Season One of PRISON BREAK is a riveting ride! Handsomely produced and perfectly cast, every episode is a collection of cunningly crafted cliffhangers sure to keep you rapt. Earnest protagonist Wentworth Miller is supported by a great ensemble and the series itself is a creative spin on episodic adventure.
The special features are a nice bonus, but the great thing about having the entire season in one DVD collection is being able to watch for as long as you can without interruption.
First rate all the way.
Prison Break - Season One.......2007-08-25
Very good series, keeps you interested, would highly recommend for any one that enjoys a drama with a plot..
4.5, fun addicting TV.......2007-08-21
While I normally like these kind of shows, Prison Break was one of those kind of shows that always fits through the cracks. For every show like Lost or Heroes that manage to stay on the air, there's always those that get cancelled prematurely so I didn't bother to check it out. Not having anything to watch I thought I'd give it a shot. With season 2 nearing DVD release and season 3 on the way, it's nice to get a head start. While I wouldn't say it's one of the best shows on television right now, it's certainly one of the more entertaining and addictive ones.
Most spend their life trying to stay out of prison but for Michael Scofield, he wants in. His brother Lincoln Burrows is on death row framed for the murder of the Vice President's brother and so it's Michael's plan to get into the prison as an inmate and with knowledge and a near full-torso tattoo of the prison's layout, sets in plan an elaborate escape. But that's not so easy as some inside the prison find out and want in while others outside the prison want to make sure Burrows is dead one way or the other.
One of the strengths of a show like this is each episode gets you more and more excited about nearing the end as the story continues to leave you guessing. And with a show like this where every episode ends with some kind of cliffhanger, you'll find you keep putting on the next DVD to find out what happens. However that can also be the show's weakness as it's hard to re-watch the show since you know where it's going and how it'll end. It's good TV anyways although it's hard to tell if the show has lasting power if you already watch the whole season.
One of the things you need to do when you watch is to turn your brain off just a tad. It's not a show where anything can and does happen but there's some many instances of coincidence or convenience that you just have to forget all of it and just go along with it. There's some trouble spots such as a big cliffhanger followed by a flashback show of all things and you start to get a little impatient at just how long it's taken to get to the breakout but then we have the last 3 episodes which are probably one of the more exciting season enders around.
While Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell do admirable but not stellar jobs in their roles, the strength largely comes from its supporting cast from Robert Knepper playing the creepy pedophile "T-Bag" to "C-Note" to Scofield's cellmate, the likable Sucre who's suspicious that his girl will move on while he's in jail, it's easy to like the cast around them and root for them, particularly Knepper who somehow manages to be darkly funny yet a huge dark part you don't want to be near.
It may be a bit too macho for some since not only is it predominantly male in its cast but in its tone, it's also compelling TV so why not?

thoroughly enjoyed.......2007-09-10
I really liked these dvds. No commercials to watch. You can choose to watch all of them at the same time or just watch one episode at a time. I also recommend watching the bonus features. They add a new dimension to watching the shows.
House, MD.......2007-09-08
I really enjoyed the episodes. I like the fact that now I can watch House whenever, and whatever episode I wish to watch as well. I like the grouping of the first two seasons. You dont see that much but, it helps when your looking for specific items
Fantastic.......2007-08-29
No more needs to be said, a supremely intimate and rewarding series. I can't wait for further installments.
Hospital drama set in New Jersey.......2007-08-24
An excellent medical drama set in New Jersey. This follows the exploits of Dr. House and his team of three physicians as they grapple with various mystery diseases. Dr. Gregory House is a specialist in trouble shooting diseases that stymie the average diagnosticians. Arthur Conan Doyle said he patterned his famous detective Sherlock Holmes on a doctor he once worked under. House could be this man, updated of course to present times. This first two season set will bring tardy viewers of the series up to date, or just bring an excellent hospital mystery drama to your home.
superb!!.......2007-08-12
House is a favorite of mine, but I didn't get into it until the second season. By now, I couldn't find the first season in the video stores. I decided to buy the first season and got a bonus by getting the second season at a lower price. I was thrilled.
The order and delivery went very smoothly and I had my DVDs within about a week.

Details on the different versions of this DVD release.......2007-09-12
Loved the movie. That said, I was confused on what the differences were on the 3 DVD versions, but found some details that I've posted below. As for me, I'm going with this two-disc unrated version.
Basic extras -- available on all (both R-rated and Unrated Editions):
- Deleted and Extended Scenes
- Gag Reel
-"Directing the Director" (Capote director Bennett Miller stops by to help Apatow get the job done)
- Line-O-Rama (Tons of alternate takes)
- Audio commentary with Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen and Bill Hader
- Roller Coaster Featurette
Goodies available only on the Unrated releases:
- MORE Deleted and Extended Scenes (some pretty raunchy ones, reportedly)
- Topless Scene: "Web Design"
And finally, extras available only on this 2-disc Unrated version:
- Judd Apatow's Video Diaries
- Finding Ben Stone (A mock casting session)
- Stripper Confidential (Rogen and Paul Rudd wade through some Sin City salaciousness)
- Even MORE Deleted and Extended Scenes / Gag Reel Footage!
- Another topless Scene: "Restaurant"
- Katherine Hiegl's Audition Tape
.. "and more" (I'm really hoping for another "You know how I know you're gay?" extended scene like in 40-year-old Virgin)
Many guys would run a mile.......2007-09-10
There are too many children being born into the world at the moment, where the mother, barely out of school herself, can't remember the name of the father. There are children being born who will never know their father, cos their mother had too much to drink to ask him to wear some protection. Or take her pill. Many boyfriends would run a mile and then keep running if their girlfriend turned round and said they were pregnant. Imagine what they would do if it was a one night stand who said they were pregnant?!
Here's a film that turns all that on its head. The girl who should have been out of his league, has a few too many and sleeps with the guy who has 'moobs' and a mop of curly hair. He thinks he's scored, they part ways. She discovers she's pregnant eight weeks later, just as she gets a promotion at work, hunts him down to tell him, and he agrees to stick by her, thankfully without asking the question that would get him a slap: "Is it mine?"
That's the basic premise of the movie, starring Katherine Heigl and Seth Rogen in the lead roles. It's an absolutely brilliant movie, dealing with various relationship problems, sometimes a bit too much, as I found some scenes difficult to deal with. Maybe I was feeling a bit insecure that night, who knows? The bit where she threw him out the car in the middle of nowhere gave me shivers up my spine. A lot of the jokes about the roommate with the beard, and ever growing hair went straight over my head.
I never got into The 40 Year Old Virgin, so I can't really comment on the comparisons to that. I think I switched it off as I couldn't concentrate on it. But this definitely kept my attention, although it could have been cut down slightly, as it was overly long for a comedy, but only by about 15 minutes or so.
The supporting cast are absolutely terrific, and the cameos are also funny too. Look out for Ryan Seacrest playing a totally different 'character' to the one he plays on American Idol! Steve Carrell also makes a cameo, along with Jessica Simpson & Jessica Alba.
An 18 year old guy I work with also went to see this movie the same night I did, and we were discussing it the next day, and he admitted to being scared stiff at the birth scene at the end. Oh dear, that's the wool been lifted from his eyes! You do see EVERYTHING unfortunately, including a reflection in a mirror of a baby's head crowning. It's a fleeting glimpse, but enough to make me want to cross my legs!
Knocked Up is an excellent movie, about a true to life topic, and has a happy ending when it all works out. I think I was close to tears. I'll definitely pick up the DVD of this, and see if there's any good extras on it.
Big Disappointment.......2007-09-02
Perhaps I'm too old for movies like this. Perhaps I should have known better - I gave up on 40 year virgin after 15 minutes. But the reviews were good so I watched it. The movie (to me) was utterly boring. I found little to laugh at, but perhaps the jokes belonged to a different culture. The characters were amiably pleasant but a bad situation was made worse by the continuous stream of bad language. Is this how young people talk nowadays - I doubt it.
Dire .......2007-08-28
This aint no comedy. A foul mouthed tepid load of rubbish. Lazy drugged up slob impregnates drunken beauty queen. She obviously traumatised by the experience tries to bond with her childs father. But he is a lazy useless monosyllabic bore.
There is no chemistry between the leads, the main male character is particularly reprehensible, an introverted immature layabout. The script is terrible, not a single person laughed in the theatre I was in watching this dribble.
How any one could call this a comedy is beyond me, movie making at its worst, one of the most horrible theatre experiences of my life.
When Homer met Marge, for adults.......2007-08-27
I thought the movie had some hilarious moments...but you have to remember one thing: It's only a movie!!!
In real life there would probably be some ugly consequences involved for constantly smoking pot, not having a job and sleeping with any bloke you meet in a club. Ie. you can end up a nutcase, get AIDS,become homeless on the street, etc.
But if you just watch it for what it is (a movie) then it can be really hilarious at times.
Hope this review helped.

Odd little show.......2007-09-14
They took a unique idea and created an OK series. I can't really say anything bad about the show except that each episode is kind of "same old, same old". It's better than most of the shows on the "thing that lives in the corner". bg
Love Eureka.......2007-09-12
My wife and I watch every new episode of Eureka every Tuesday. We have seen them all since the series began last year. Good humor and great characters. A story you tend to fall in love with!
Eureka Re-discovered!.......2007-09-11
Eureka without the commercials, plus extras!
Great to see all the episodes in order.
As much fun as the original broadcast!
Great scifi.......2007-09-09
Saw the first episode and wasn't able to see the rest.Very good writing and actors.
Unfulfilled potential, but still fun to watch.......2007-09-08
I wasn't all that crazy about Eureka. This is, after all, a show from the same network that made Mansquito. However much to my surprise, the pilot was a decent start. And the premise, about a town of super-geniuses, has a tremendous amount of potential for some very interesting stories.
Others have commented on the terrific cast, so I won't repeat their praise again here. The first season seems to have been an opportunity for the writers to experiment with different premises. I don't think all the episodes premises work that well within the framework of the show. Although I'm happy to say that the show does get stronger towards the end.
If you didn't completely like the first season of Eureka (like me), then I strongly recommend giving the second season a chance. The cast have really settled into their roles, and the writing and direction are much more confident this season. Here's hoping that Sci-Fi commission a third series, because I really like this show.
