4 out of 5 stars Just what you'd expect.......2007-08-22

If you can remember going to the drive-in you'll also remember that what was happening on the screen took second or third place to what was happening in the front, and or back seet of the car. Keeping this in mind, the movies in this collection are just what you'd expect. OK, they're not award winning "A" flicks, but if you hunt and peck through the titles, you're sure to find at some to your liking, and considering the price, you shouldn't be disappointed. So what the heck, why not give these a try?

1 out of 5 stars Wretched public domain trash.......2007-08-06

I love a bad movie, and Lord knows I have sat through my share, but the "Drive-In" title had me expecting campy 1950's fare and what I got is bottom of the barrel 1970's-80's garbage. Mostly unwatchable. Too bad because my hopes were high.

1 out of 5 stars Beware, incomplete and heavily censored!!.......2007-07-06

Why would anyone waste time and money releasing a film on DVD in a form that is confused and incomplete due to heavy editing and censoring?? Such is the case with Savage Weekend. I first saw the film several years ago at a drive-in theater in Georgia. I vividly recall that there were several nude and racy scenes and some fairly graphic violence, as well. Well, if you buy this DVD you can safely play it for the kids because all of the "adult" content is missing!! Also, the picture quality is absolutely dreadful and grainy and looks like it was copied from a very poor quality source; such as a copy made on VHS at home from a poor cable t.v. service!! Maybe one day Anchor Bay or someone else will give this film the treatment it deserves and release it in the original, complete, unedited and uncensored version. Also with decent and clearer picture quality, too. As a fan of actress Caitlin O'Heaney (aka Kathleen Heaney), this DVD is a real letdown.

5 out of 5 stars On a bit of a different note.........2007-05-22

Not really going to talk about how "cheesy" some of these films are - "Drive-In Movie Classics" pretty much sums it up and that is what you get.

What I want to do is make a couple of comments about this package of movies that I think many of the other reviewers overlooked:

1 - The packaging of the discs - the package I got consisted of a box with 12 individual cardboard sleeves, each with a single DVD inside. Personally I like this as it seems to have kept the discs secure during shipment. I've bought other multi-disc sets and have never been that impressed with how they were shoe-horned into a single huge clam-shell case. Another thing that I like about the slim sleeves that these discs come in - it makes it really easy to drop one or two of these movies into the pockets of my laptop and/or my portable DVD player case. Also on the sleeves is a short description of each movie - in a very readable 12-pt font.

2 - The number of discs, there are twelve double-sided discs in this collection, with two movies on each side. Why do I think that is important? Mainly because I've bought other sets where a cheaper publisher crammed four movies onto each disc side so as to get 50 movies on five discs. To do that they had to greatly compress the videos which made them have a huge amount of artifacts and pixilation - making them almost unwatchable. The movies on this 12-disc set are of excellent quality, at least as good as possible considering the source material. While there appears to have been some defects in the prints used to make these DVDs (scratches and whatnot) there doesn't seem to be any noticeable additional problems introduced from overly compressing the films to get them on the discs.

This is the third set of videos from Mill Creek Entertainment that I've purchased; I also bought their "Hollywood Legends" and "Cartoon Classics" collections. I must say that I've been very pleased with all three sets and look forward to buying more of their collections.

5 out of 5 stars 50 Drive-In Movies of Public Domain Goodness.......2007-04-27

Drive-In Movie Classics is a collection of 50 movies that have only one thing in common: they are all public domain and as such it is possible for them to be presented in highly affordable collections. I paid $21.99 for my set and that comes down to about 44 cents per movie. The way that movie tickets cost nowadays, you really cannot complain about this collection.

Anyways, here is how I rate the movies in Drive-In Movie Classics:

Excellent:

Absolution
Horror of the Zombies
Night Train to Terror
Shock
Snowbeast

Great:

Count Dracula and His Vampire Bride
Don't Look in the Basement
Island Monster, The
Unsane
Werewolf vs. Vampire Women, The

Good:

Creeper
Creepers
Day of the Panther
Devil with Seven Faces, The
Don't Open Till Christmas
Firing Line, The
Going Steady
Invasion of the Bee Girls
Legacy of Blood
Murder Mansion, The
Prime Time
Slave of the Cannibal God
Spare Parts
Trauma
Women of Devil's Island

Bad:

Beast from Haunted Cave
Black Hooker
Breakout from Oppression
Country Blue
Death By Dialogue
Fiend
Guy from Harlem, The
In Hot Pursuit
I Wonder Who's Killing Her Now?
Jive Turkey
Katie's Passion

Manipulator, The
Prisoner of the Lost Universe
Rattlers
Savage Journey
Savage Weekend
Throw Out the Anchor
TNT Jackson

Overall, a very good collection that is well worth your time and money.

5 out of 5 stars I'd give it 10 stars if I could........2007-06-12

The documentaries are awesome. Really. The movies are ok too but the Official stuff is awesome. There are Russian, German, and British films here and it is unbelievable. Really.

4 out of 5 stars War Classics 50 Movie Collection Pack.......2007-05-07

The documentaries are great. The movie selections are far reaching, some real classics and some vague titles that leave a bit to be desired. All in all well worth your investment, and own a nice pack of war and war related movies.

4 out of 5 stars On a 1 to 10 scale, this collection is rated: 6.4.......2007-04-18

The "classics" in the WAR CLASSICS 50 MOVIE PACK must surely be the many contemporary documentaries included in this set. These chronicles of a war in progress are both American and foreign made-- the most unusual for Western eyes being those from the USSR. The theatrical films included here aren't blockbusters by any means, yet they should still have appeal to fans of the war genre.

The 1 to 10 rating for this box set was determined by accumulated pollng data located at a film resource website. Based on these numbers, the current average score for WAR CLASSICS is: 6.4.

5 out of 5 stars Well Worth It.......2007-02-18

The documentaries are infinitely more interesting than the jingoistic, low budget and mostly rather bland soldier flicks. The subject is war in general but the vast majority of the docs and many of the fictional flicks are abt WW2 one way or the other. The docs are fascinating as the show WW2 propaganda as it really was during and just after the war. Kind of a peek behind the curtain at how Americans on the homefront really thought and were made to think during the world's greatest cataclysm.

1 out of 5 stars Old movies.......2007-07-22

Enjoyed watching the old movies and seeing famous stars as they were in their early days.

3 out of 5 stars Your money's worth.......2007-06-08

I have purchased several 50 packs in this series, and while this is not 5 starworthy, it's still a good value for the money.

4 out of 5 stars classic crime is a bargain.......2007-05-14

A great collection of crime thrillers from the 30's and 40's. These haven't been remastered so you get that great late night t.v. feeling when you watch them. I really enjoy these old films, especially the stars that got their early roles in them.My favorite movie in this set is Blonde Ice, probably one of the best femme fatale movies I've ever seen.
Sit back, pop some popcorn and enjoy some great movies.

5 out of 5 stars For the price, this is one great set.......2007-05-09

I have bought many of these sets of 50 movies and for the most part have liked them all. Sure the transfers are not the best, but for the price what are you expecting to find. The movies run from good to bad and all points in between, but you'll find more than a few "Gems" in this one,so if you aren't hung up on great transfers check this one out

3 out of 5 stars On a 1 to 10 scale, this collection is rated: 5.6.......2007-04-16

The CRIME CLASSICS 50 MOVIE PACK has one film in it that features 17 famous actors. Almost without exception though, this collection presents movies starring the no-name performers of the 'B' picture industry. These low-budget, quickly shot, edited and released three and four-reelers were once-upon-a-time the bread and butter of many a small and independent company. Even some of the bigger outfits, like RKO and UNIVERSAL, released their share of 'B's.

If you are unfamiliar with the likes of Frankie Darro, Kane Richmond, Jameson Thomas or Vivienne Osborn, the CRIME CLASSICS box set is a perfect opportunity for you to see how "the other half" kept themselves busy during Hollywood's Golden Era. And lest you think these forgotten titles aren't worthwhile-- look again. A good number of these are VERY well done!

Recommended for all fans of vintage motion pictures.

    4 out of 5 stars action packed.......2007-01-12

Although some the films viewed had some pure quality I am well satified with them ,so I have ordered 4 other 50 packed movies from Amazon and still waitng to arrive by post. I have been buying from Amazon for the last four months and to date i can recommend readers to buy from Amazon because they are safe realable thanks keep it up John Fenech
    from Malta.

2 out of 5 stars Adequate quality, one classic, some nuggests........2006-12-26

Classics is less applicable here than in most of the other entries in this 50 movie pack series. However, the quality of sound and pictures is adequate, equal to what one expected to see in the early days of television when studios were still withholding their films from the competitive medium. For one interested in the history of film, the Doug Fairbanks (Sr) films are both enjoyable and neceesary viewing, as would be the Brix Tarzan, the Margaret Lockwood/Boris Karloff, British Intelligence, and a few others.
Probably the Sacco-Vanzetti case does not resonate with younger viewers but for those still moved by it, the film version of Maxwell Anderson's, Winterset, is a nostalgic classic, starring Burgess Meredith and Margo, from the original stage production.
For those with relatively limited funds, I would advise steering clear of this oneand spending your money on some of the other 50 packs which offer more meat and less filler. For those whose budget is not stringent, there are a sufficent number of films worth viewing to justify the expenditure if one can get it at the discounted price available from some of the Amazon associated sellers. I paid $12.59, including shipping charges, which makes me comfortable with the inadequacies of the set.

    1 out of 5 stars false advertising.......2006-12-13

I ordered this movie pack specifically to watch the movie Manhunt, aka From Hell to Texas, with Don Murray, Chill Wills, and Dennis Hopper. Despite the fact the product says this is the movie on the DVD, it is in fact not. There is some goofy C grade movie in its place with no explanation.

I would not recommed this product.
