This typical but well-made action movie, which spawned numerous sequels, means to combine the best elements of the disaster movie with the hard-boiled attributes of traditional action-adventures. When a plane is hijacked to the Middle East by Palestinian terrorists, the Pentagon calls into action the Delta Force, an elite squad of highly trained commandos led by tough guy mainstay Lee Marvin and karate-action-star Chuck Norris. Their mission is simple: to thwart the terrorists and rescue the hostages, and the plot concentrates largely on just that, as the team uses its experience and fighting skills to get the job done. Its sometimes preachy patriotic bent occasionally gets in the way of the action, and Norris is a one-dimensional figure who at times takes himself too seriously, but his rapport with easygoing veteran Marvin moves the film over some implausible rough spots. While not a groundbreaking contribution to the genre, Delta Force impresses with its straightforward tough-guy style. --Robert Lane

3 out of 5 stars The only way Chuck gets only 3 stars is when he's weighed down by a mutant mullet and Lee Marvin's eyebrows.......2007-09-11

How is it possible that a movie as promising as Delta Force gets only three stars from Sid the Elf? All the elements were there. On the cover, you have the stars of the show(Chuck Norris and Lee Marvin with special appearances by Chuck's uber-mullet and Lee's eyebrows that looked like wings in case his head decided to fly away) holding bazookas, undoubedly poised to blow some terrorists to bits. Unfortulately, that's about as good as it got. The plot followed no logic and we, Sid the Elf, have no respect for those who have no respect for logic. The first explosions after the opening credits happened about an hour into the film. If it's Sid, he says that move doesn't have it. Nobody is watching a movie staring Chuck Norris and Lee Marvin to see an enthraling plot and good acting. We want to see 128 minutes of non-stop explosions, cool guns, people being thrown off stuff, neck-snappings, and roundhouse kicks out the thing. It's a real easy formula. Whoever made Delta Force 2 had the recepie. Delta Force was just lacking. It pains us, Sid the Elf-because we love Chuck and think he's as much of a one man wrecking crew as the next reviewer-to say NO DEAL to Delta Force.

Most likely my favorite Chuck Norris movie of all time. They rarely show it on TV so I knew I would have to buy this DVD online. It's a great investment.

Few countries in the world have not suffered from terrorist violence over the past three decades... Domestic and international terrorism is now at the top of the agenda for most nations...

Experts agree that there is almost always a strategy behind terrorist actions... Whether it takes the form of bombings, shootings, hijackings, or assassinations... Terrorism is neither random, spontaneous, nor blind; it is a deliberate use of violence against civilians for political or religious ends...

Terrorist acts are often deliberately spectacular, designed to rattle and influence a wide audience, beyond the victims of the violence itself... The point is as Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said at the Pentagon one day: "Terrorism must be vigorously opposed and soundly defeated wherever it exists."

The Delta Force was secretly created in October 1977 by US Army colonel Charles Beckwith in direct response to numerous, well-publicized terrorist incidents that occurred in the 1970s.

The number of terrorism attacks was at its highest in mid-1980s... Palestinians have long been associated with terrorism, including suicide bombings against Western targets and kidnappings in war-torn Lebanon during the 1980s...

Menahem Golan's 'The Delta Force' is inspired by the 1985 hijacking of TWA, which featured the famous footage of the plane's pilot leaning out of the cockpit with a gun to his head... The film opens with two fanatic terrorists taking over an American airliner bound from Athens to Rome and New York, diverting it to Beirut...

With no other option, the Pentagon decides to send the 'Delta Force' into the area for an emergency rescue operation...

Colonel Alexander (Marvin) is given the go ahead, and his elite team - specialized in rapid infantry assault, night fighting and airfield seizure - led by Major McCoy (Norris) energetically meets the terrorists...

Since Chuck Norris is on his motorcycle, the action is intense, sweaty, and fast...

I would say this is the great Chuck Norris movie, no wait, the greatest movie of all-time except for one thing. And that is that all Chuck Norris movies are created equal and better then the movies like the Godfather, Schlinder's List, Back Door Sluts 9, and Braveheart combined. Chuck Norris is a much better actor then Tom Hanks and Marlon Brando because he knows karate. Hell Chuck Norris invented Karate as well as Judo, Kung Fu, and Hamster style Jap Slapping. 5 out of 5 stars Simply Put Chuck Norris is a deadly force of nature........2007-07-17

The title of this movie should have been changed post-production, after seeing the absolute tour-de-force performance of one of the world's most accomplished B actors, Chuck Norris. If it's us, we're calling this one "Delta Force 2: Don't (explitive deleted) with Chuck!" Norris plays a man possesed and bloodthirsty, taking out every drug poisoner in sight. His nemesis: the one, the only Billy Drago who as we all know was only three short years away from his breakthrough performance as Denton Vachs in the B zenith "Death Ring." Drago was great in this one too. He doesn't try to do too much with the role and stays pretty much the same in Death Ring. It's not bad acting, he just knows what to do to put meat in the seats.

Meanwhile, lets get into what makes this movie worthy of a go from Sid The Elf. It is extreme B! There is limited dialouge(most of the movie is fight and training scenes which are wonderful, and the most explosions we've ever seen in a B action, which is what gave ith the nod for 5 stars). I mean, there is roughly a 20 minute sequence with nothing but a helicopter shooting missles at a village. Beautiful! And when Norris does deliver lines, they're pure gold. Who can forget the famous "lessons" sequence with the Spanish Gallagher? Another B hallmark was the fact that we counted the same mexican warrior was killed off 5 seperate times, count them 5!

We would like to announce this is Chucks first movie in our list of reviews due to his sons captivating role in our critically acclaimed "Death Ring." Does it get the Sid the Elf Seal of Approval? You bet your sweet a-- it does, Seal of Approval- Did her. If you do yourself one favor this year, prove that Christmas doesn't only come once a year and check out Delta Force 2 and Death Ring.

5 out of 5 stars probably in the top 20 best movies ever made.......2007-01-31

best part was when the Colombian military attache (Major Ernesto) tried to tell Chuck Norris and the Delta Force that they had no authority to "conduct Operation Strangehold in Colombia and that Colombia was a soverign country" Boy, was he mistaken.
Didnt have as much action in terms of total body count like "Braddock Missing in Action" where Chuck Norris takes on an entire Regiment of NVA troops with one AK-47 or even "Invasion USA" where Chuck Norris (with a few well-placed Uzis) comes out of semi-retirement to take on Cuban and Nicarguan terrorists and infamous Soviet agent Rostov...
Did have all the essentials of a good movie. Explosions, pummelling, excessive pain doled out to bad guys, good one liners, the best acting short of "Gone with the Wind". This movie just shows what back to the basics can do in terms of brilliant filmmaking and how low Hollywood has gone since the mid-1980's.
The best part of all is you can buy this one in any Walmart or Blockbuster clearance bin for probably less than 7 bucks. In fact I am still stunned this did not win an Emmy or an Oscar award in 1989.
I have watched this masterpiece over 300 times, and it gets better every time. The most important lesson of the film is; never ship drugs to America. Considering Chuck Norris moves at 104 frames per second he sure does lay waste to thousands of Ramon Cota's henchman faster than than anyone could comprehend. Also, consider the Die Hard movies with Bruce Willis or Rocky 5 with Stallone cost millions and millions to make. The budget for this movie was probably 5 million dollars with 4 million going straight to Chuck Norris. When you have Chuck Norris's brother directing the film and he has never really directed anything you know it's going to be an oscar level performance. One great piece of brilliant theatrics and directing, even the background music is good, but some of the henchmen working for drug lord Ramon Cota should spend more time enhancing their karate skills in downtown Bogota.
If you have nothing better to do with a Saturday afternoon I highly reccomend this movie. If you don't buy this when you have the chance you might end up like narco-trafficker Ramon Cota and half the Colombian army.
plot = atrocities and payback
setting = some cesspool country in South America
charactars = Chuck Norris and the other people are unimportant
theme = never ship drugs to America
conclusion = half the narco traffickers in Central America and their private armies are either dead or in a world of pain

3 out of 5 stars The War on Drugs fought Chuck Norris style.......2005-12-24

When Delta Force members Scott McCoy (Chuck Norris) and Bobby Chavez (Paul Perri) help the DEA capture the ruthless drug kingpin Ramon Cota (Billy Drago), they expect justice. Cota just shrugs off the wrap and kills Chavez's family. When Chavez attempts a little revenge himself, Cota kills him as well. That's when General Taylor (John P. Ryan) convinces the President to send the Delta Force in to take Cota down. Delta Force 2 is really an in name only sequel to the first, and only modestly successful, Delta Force movie. It's about ten minute too long, but that won't stop Norris's die hard fans from enjoying it. John P. Ryan is a hoot as well.

4 out of 5 stars Two Words: BILLY DRAGO.......2004-02-10

This one was made in Cannon's last days. In fact, only Golan was left at this point. It's still Cannon all the way. As another reviewer stated, Delta Force 2-Operation Scrotumhold could have just as easily been Missing In Action 4, coz it follows the same formula. It's a solid, fun Norris actioner as you'd come to expect from a Cannon/Norris collaboration. What really made it especially fun for me was the appearance of Billy Drago as the villian. Though he was playing the stereotypical evil drug lord, he puts his own stamp on the role. Any fan of Billy Drago knows what I mean; He's the perfect villian. He's creepy, sinister and as sleazy looking as they get. If I made action films, I'd have to cast Billy Drago in at least one of them. The film's funniest moment has Chuck throwing Billy out of an airplane as a joke. This has to be seen to be believed, it's hysterical. The plot? Evil Colombian drug lord holds DEA agents hostage and basically terrorizes everyone. Naturally, the courts can't hold him, so Norris decides to rescue the agents and bring the drug operation to the ground. With the help of the Delta Force of course! This time, John P. Ryan takes the place of Lee Marvin as the trigger happy General, and he's quite amusing. Highly recommended if you like this sorta junk.

Just Like Heaven
Bad romantic comedies make you scoff at their absurdity; good ones make you wish your life was that absurd. Just Like Heaven is just smart and likable enough to trigger that wishing. David (Mark Ruffalo, Collateral, You Can Count On Me) finds an amazing apartment in San Francisco--only to discover it's haunted by the spirit of the previous tenant, an overachieving doctor named Elizabeth (Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde, Election). There's something not quite right about Elizabeth's afterlife; against his better judgement, David agrees to help her investigate her life...but finds himself digging into his own as well. The plot takes a twist that some viewers will see coming, but Just Like Heaven doesn't rely on the surprise alone; the revelation takes the story in a new and just as entertaining direction. Witherspoon and Ruffalo are two of the best romantic leads around, but the surprise is how well their contrasting flavors (perky and moody, respectively) mesh, creating a sparky, engaging chemistry. Also featuring Dina Waters (Freaky Friday), Donal Logue (The Tao of Steve), Ben Shenkman (Angels in America), and Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite). Crisply directed by Mark Waters (Mean Girls), who carefully keeps the supernatural from getting silly and the romance from getting gooey. --Bret Fetzer

Win A Date With Tad Hamilton!
To improve their client's tarnished image, the managers of movie heartthrob Tad Hamilton (TV star Josh Duhamel) trump up a contest in which an innocent middle-American girl will win a date with the hunk. A West Virginia grocery clerk named Rosalee (Kate Bosworth, Blue Crush) wins, much to the dismay of her friend Pete (Topher Grace, Traffic), who's secretly in love with her. A summary of the romantic triangle that follows won't capture the charm of Win a Date with Tad Hamilton!. Though formulaic in structure, the movie is constantly surprising and engaging in its details. All romantic comedies should have such a smart script, understated but spot-on acting (Grace, Bosworth, and Duhamel are delightful and given excellent comic support from Nathan Lane, Sean Hayes, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Gary Cole), and clean, clear direction (from the director of Legally Blonde, another formulaic but irrepressibly fun movie). --Bret Fetzer

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Kate Hudson twinkles as the heroine of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, a magazine writer assigned to date a guy, make all the mistakes girls make that drive guys away (being clingy, talking in baby-talk, etc.), and record the process like a sociological experiment. However, the guy she picks--rangy Matthew McConaughey--is an advertising executive who's just bet that he can make a woman fall in love with him in ten days; if he succeeds, he'll win a huge account that will make his career. The set-up is completely absurd, but the collision of their efforts to woo and repel creates some pretty funny scenes. McConaughey's easy charm and Hudson's lightweight impishness play well together and the plot, though strictly Hollywood formula, chugs along efficiently. At moments Hudson seems to channel her mother, Goldie Hawn, to slightly unnerving effect. --Bret Fetzer

What Women Want
It must've made for a great pitch meeting: Male chauvinist advertising executive gains the ability to hear the thoughts of any woman around him. Add Mel Gibson--as Nick, the divorced "man's man" who can charm almost any woman into bed--and you've got high-concept comedy made in Hollywood heaven, right? Not necessarily. The smartest thing director Nancy Meyers did with What Women Want is dispose of this ludicrous plot contrivance before it wears out its welcome. It's fun to see Mel react to a deafening chorus of female thoughts, but his dubious "gift"--courtesy of an accidental electro-shock in his bathtub--is a mixed blessing for the audience. The women in Nick's life conveniently think in complete sitcom-friendly sentences, and the novelty quickly wears thin.

The movie improves by focusing on the fallout of Nick's predicament. Exploiting his unfair advantage, he sabotages the career of his new boss (Helen Hunt) even as he's falling in love with her; says all the right things to the aspiring actress (Marisa Tomei) who previously spurned his advances; and uses mind reading to curry favor with his 15-year-old daughter (Ashley Johnson). This two-faced scheming isn't malicious, however, and What Women Want is blessed by Gibson's amiably nuanced performance. His graceful riff on Fred Astaire is a dazzling surprise, and as Nick reforms, Gibson takes major credit for whatever depth this movie achieves. After a bit of nonsense, What Women Want has a lot to say about male and female behavior, be it noble or unappealing. It's both amusing and truthful, and that's almost as fun as a glimpse into someone else's brain. --Jeff Shannon

Forces of Nature
Plane crashes, pickpockets, hurricanes--heaven and hell is moving to prevent our able hero Ben (Ben Affleck) from marrying his sweetie (Maura Tierney) in Savannah. At every turn he runs into someone else despairing about the woes of married life. And of course, temptation proves overwhelming in the face of traveling companion Sarah (Sandra Bullock), the wild woman whom he can't seem--or doesn't want--to lose.

After a wayward bird flies into the engine of his airplane, Ben is forced to find another way to his wedding. He finds himself stuck with Sarah, whom he carried from the plane after she was whacked in the noggin by his laptop. The heat between them is unmistakable, and the drama in the film comes from the "will he or won't he," both in terms of sleeping with Sarah and meeting up with his bride. Forces of Nature is a fun and sentimental road-trip film, but Ben is such a strait-laced noodge, you can't help but want him to fall flat on his face just a little. Bullock is the life of this film, although her free-spirited ways get a bit tired (responsibility is not all bad). The highlight of this movie, though, is definitely the cinematography. The beautiful rain shots and the colors of the scenes lend to the unsettling mood. While the jokes are not rip-roaring, Forces is to be reckoned with for those times when a lighthearted film is what you need. --Jenny Brown

Product Description

Just Like Heaven
A couple who live on different sides of the divide of life and death discover just how many boundaries love can cross in this romantic comic fantasy. Elizabeth (Reese Witherspoon) is a hardworking and dedicated medical resident who, after 20 hours on duty, is heading home when she falls asleep at the wheel of her car and is involved in a fatal auto accident. Several weeks later, a man named David (Mark Ruffalo) takes over the lease on Elizabeth's apartment, but he discovers that she hasn't quite vacated the building. Elizabeth's body may be dead, but her spirit is still quite lively, and her ghost is insisting that the apartment is still hers...and that she wants him to move out. David brings in Darryl (Jon Heder), an eccentric man who claims to have psychic powers, to help sweep Elizabeth's spirit out of the apartment, but she refuses to budge, certain that she can't be completely dead, despite all evidence to the contrary. As Elizabeth and David try to share the flat, they discover that their differences aren't as great as they once imagined, and they become attracted to one another. But will Elizabeth's spirit stay in the land of the living long enough for their romance to go somewhere? Just Like Heaven marked Jon Heder's first feature film role after his breakthrough appearance in the independent hit Napoleon Dynamite.

1 out of 5 stars Sid the Elf is renaming this one "Delta Force 3: The Attack of the Pink Turkey Baster.".......2007-07-24

Delta Force 3. What a disapointment. Following up the trancendant Delta Force 2, this crapfest was like going out with Eva Longoria Friday night, and Rosie O'Donnell on Saturday. I have no problem with overweight people, but Rosie is just hard to look at. I think I heard that somewhere before. Anyway, Mike Norris as we all know gave us a star effort in the classic Death Ring, but in this one, he was not the same man. In Delta Force 3, he was the biggest lamest, whimpiest geek! We, Sid the Elf, are starting to think that his integral part in Death Ring was due more to the supperior writing than Mike Norris's performance.

Also, there were these Arabs who were vacilitating between their Middle eastern accents and no accent at all. Usually, this is a very good thing, but in this one it just kind of annoyed us. So, we say stay far away from this one. There was a serious lack of explosions, almost none of the goofy karate fighting we've all come to know and love in a good b, and there was even fewer tough guy lines! That doesn't sound like a good solid old-fashioned American B movie to me. End of story.

2 out of 5 stars No Chuck Norris? Well..........2005-08-26

Delta Force 3 (the actual film title is Delta Force 3: The Killing Game) was released by Cannon films in 1993. Cannon films financed the first two Delta Force films orignally with legendary B-Action producers Golan-Globus. By the time DF3 got around to being made, neither Golan or Globus were around anymore to produce. Though they are absent, the film still FEELS like a Cannon film none-the-less. Another person that hightailed for this sequel was original series star Chuck Norris. When I first found out they made a Delta Force 3, my reaction was "How could they make a sequel without Chuck Norris?" Well apparently he was supposed to be in it, but bowed out due to a near fatal helicoptor crash while on the set of Delta Force 2 (according to imdb). What a shame, but for some reason Cannon forged on to make a third and final film to complete the Delta Force trilogy. This time they decided to hire a bunch of young action stars (Whom many are relations to bigger name stars, including Matthew Penn, Eric Douglas, and Mike Norris). With a "hype" young cast (resulting in the lame tagline "Younger & Tougher Because They Have To Be), the filmmakers set out to make an even more action packed sequel. Frankly, they failed to live up to the shere B-grade funness of the first two films. Chuck Norris has a charisma to him that makes even his worst films watchable and he has major physical talent to boot. Sorry but my original inclination was right as this film seriously misses Norris's precence. Not even seven of these younger stars that make up this new Delta Force can make up for the lack of the central force of Norris. The film itself is a typical Cannon actionier entertaining in its own B-grade right, but as a true Delta Force sequel? Bah....give me the first two any day over this.

I actually thought I would never see this little known sequel on DVD, but low and behold one day I saw it in the new section at a local DVD retailer. Thankfully Warner Home Video is getting off their lazy butts to release some of these little known B-action flicks from Cannon Films to the fans. Hey, their not art, but they entertain. Like many of the other Cannon films being released this has little special features, as in NONE. There isn't even a chapter selection option! They are in full screen as expected but the picture looks pretty good. Oh well, I'm just glade to to see thse on DVD.

NOTE: Please do not confuse this with the dreaded "Operation Delta Force" series of films. This is the third entry in the TRUE Delta Force series.

1 out of 5 stars Just like being in the Army again...........1999-07-20

its not often that a film accurately captures the true feelings and emotions of military life. Where films like Saving Private Ryan, Platoon and Full Metal Jacket truly convey the horrors of war, DFIII reminds me of how mind numbinly boring being in the Army could be. It succeds on this level. Fire watch, ammo detail and KP were more exciting than this dreck. Avoid at all costs unless you are an insomniac.

1 out of 5 stars This sucks more than anything has sucked before.......1999-05-30

This is a stupid movie,i really mean that.I never got it why they did sequels to "The Delta Force" they were all bad movies. This movie tried to be different by killing almost everybody in the end of the movie but it's not enough. It's a typical action movie that has arab terrorists and that Russia/American co-operation that was overused in movies in the beginning of the 90's.Even the acting sucks and it seems that the actors know how stupid movie theyre in.

4 out of 5 stars Not bad Gary Daniels.......2003-05-14

Ok, I admit that I bought this DVD just because of Gary Daniels. He's one of the most gorgeous, watchable guys filmed. I could even watch him eating corn flakes for an hour. (He's the muscular, handsome, blue-eyed blond brit on the DVD cover).

That said, this movie has a solid, if not spectacular, plot and direction. There are some fairly good actors in the production. It ain't a "hollywood blockbuster". But it also wasn't made on a shoestring budget. I understand that this movie is one in a series of similiar films, so the production company undoubtably saves money by reusing their sets and props. Maybe you don't need to see all of the movies in the series to actually have "seen" them all. But if you want to watch one to see if it's your thing, you may as well make it this one because Gary Daniels is in it.

It's an "action movie" about special military ops whose job it is to penetrate a hostile environment and thwart some terrorists who obtain a nuclear device. If that movie scenario sounds like an appealing one to you, then you'll probably like this movie. There are some martial arts skills exhibited by Gary, who is well known for his abilities at such. But there is not as much as one would see in Gary's other movies. Non martial arts fans will probably enjoy the fight scenes because of his skills, and may find it a welcome improvement over the typical fight scenes you see in these sorts of movies (ie, clumsy, unskilled fighters badly faking punches). Martial arts fans will probably be disappointed that they don't get to see Gary show off more.

You probably don't expect much in the way of character development from this movie, and you won't get it. There is a hint of some potential romantic interest between a female lead and Gary, but that is unfortunately not explored. (When are producers going to figure out that you don't put a guy with Gary Daniels' sex appeal in a movie and then not exploit that?) She even chooses another guy over Gary later on. (Yeah right. Like that's believable).

5 out of 5 stars One not to miss![.].......2003-01-23

This movie and the rest of the series has single handedly fulfilled my life. I caught the last 30 minutes of Op III: Clear Target, on Showtime and as soon as it was over purchased the entire series from Amazon. Let me tell you....money WELL SPENT![.] Turns out Nu Image puts out six such [things] per year and that my friend is an undertaking. This is what happens when you build a sound stage in North Carolina. MAGIC. If they can turn this trash into a goldmine, anything is possible.
I've never laughed so hard at anything in my life. Just a word of advice, have your slow motion VCR or DVD player ready to go. The fun never stops.
And a special shout out to Op Creator Danny Lerner. Keep'em coming![.]

1 out of 5 stars Horrible, Boring, Lame, Just A Waste Of Time !!!.......2003-01-14

This has to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I don't remember the last time I turned a movie off without watching the whole thing. The acting is honestly the worse acting I've ever seen in my life, the fighting is horrible and you can tell it's more then fake. I highly doubt anyone who has seen this movie has enjoyed it. This movie was just horrible, to anyone who hasn't seen it, keep it that way, because if you try and give it a chance, you'll be mad you did.

If your wanting to see a great Gary Daniels movie, get "Hawk's Vengeance", the acting in this movie isn't bad at all, and the plot is good.

MC

1 out of 5 stars They spent maybe 5 dollars TOPS making this movie.......2002-12-20

This is another reason why NOT to see movies that don't come out in the theaters. None of them are any good. The movie's storyline wasn't that bad, the acting was pathetic, the action is what I call a "spray n' pray" film (where everyone fires dozens of rounds of ammunition and no one hits a darn thing). What made me the most upset was the movie's military misconceptions, like when the weapons supervisor said "M4 carb's 12 clips per, Glocks 9mills 6 clips per," nobody can hold that many M4 clips unless they had nothing else on! The military also doesn't issue Glocks (although they should, but that's a different topic). I know these are just little things, but things get worse (if that's possible). Look at how the RPGs float to the ground during the convoy attack (they're flying like foam footballs)! What about when the main character shoots 12 mines with a revolver that holds six shots, and he doesn't reload at all! Don't buy or rent this movie, the two hours you spend watching this could be spent with something more enjoyable, like watching grass grow!

(These are the "heaviest" names in full-contact martial arts today.) But Frank's real worth as an instructor comes from his "in the trenches" experience - where he continued to combine and refine his fighting skills in actual combat. (He saw active duty in nearly every recent U.S. war and engagement .) What worked, stayed. What failed, was left out. Twelve years of this made him...One Of The Most Respected (And Feared) Unarmed Fighters In The Military!
