Description
The heat is on in this fast paced action-comedy starring Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, a street smart Detroit cop tracking down his best friend's killer in Beverly Hills. Axel quickly learns that his wild style doesn't fit in with the Beverly Hills Police Department, which assigns two officers (Judge Reinhold & John Ashton) to make sure things don't get out of hand. Dragging the stuffy detectives along for the ride, Axel smashes through a huge culture clash in his hilarious, high-speed pursuit of justice. Axel Foley (Murphy) is back-back where he doesn't belong! He's going "deep, deep, deep undercover" into the chic wilds of Southern California, unleashing his arsenal of blazing gunfire and rapid-fire gags against a gang of international munitions smugglers. Back, too, are Judge Reinhold and John Ashton as Murphy's crime-busting sidekicks. And Top Gun's director Tony Scott keeps the pace fast, furious and funny. This time, superstar Murphy comes up with the best showcase yet for Axel's comedic, rapid fire bravado. His determined pursuit of ruthless killers, with a little help from old pals Serge (Bronson Pinchot) and Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold), leads him to LA's popular theme park, WonderWorld. Suddenly, Axel is the park's hottest new attraction, whether it's dangling from the giant Spider ride to rescue a child or going deep, deep, deep undercover as Okey Dokey, a seven-foot blue elephant.
Customer Reviews:
Brilliant! Love this series..........2007-06-16
I really am a big Eddie Murphy fan, and love this series, or fanchise as they say in the videogame world.
Even though 3 is not good, there's extras, which gives you the background story behind the camera and makes you appreicate where John Landis, the director was trying to go (but didn't quite succeed.)
Recommended!

While its sequels were formulaic and safe, the first Beverly Hills Cop set out to explore some uncharted territory, and succeeded. A blend of violent action picture and sharp comedy, the film has an excellent director, Martin Brest (Scent of a Woman), who finds some original perspectives on stock scenes (highway chases, police rousts) and hits a gleeful note with Murphy while skewering L.A. culture. Good support from Judge Reinhold and John Ashton as local cops not used to doing things the Detroit way (Murphy's character hails from the Motor City). Paul Reiser has a funny, brief moment at the beginning, and Bronson Pinchot makes a hilarious impression in a great, never-to-be-duplicated scene with the star. --Tom Keogh
Customer Reviews:
Beverly Hills Cop (Special Collector's Edition).......2007-01-31
Beverly Hills Cop (Special Collector's Edition)~ John Ashton is a great Eddie Murphy. The plot is well written, the music is the typical 80's movie music and the special effects are just on the mark. Eddie Murphy is amazing in the role as Axel Foley and this is one of my favorite Eddie Murphy movies of all time. The movie sure has a lot of 80's references like German Marks, and could be tricky for kids that did not grow up during the 80's. Highly recommended indeed. The plot is so much better then the sequels and I rank it as one of the better made 80's movie. The clothes , style and art are all a total hoot. I give it 5 out of 5 stars easily.
Axel Foley.......2007-01-04
Since i was a little kid i use to watch this movie, i knew it line for line, and I think that it is still among the best.
Axel Foley is a detroit Detective, who is very hip to the way the system works, the criminal mind etc. friends with an ex-con who crosses path with the wrong fellow, he is killed and Axel goes off to Beverly Hills to find who killed his buddy. this movie is packed with comedy, crime and Eddie Murphy attitude.
One of the best "action cop" movies ever! .......2006-11-09
It's great to see Beverly Hills Cop getting the recognition it deserves
as a really good action film and not just another "funny Eddie Murphy flick". The acting is very well done by all, especially by supporting actors
Judge Reinhold and John Ashton. Eddie Murphy wouldn't have done as well in the movie without the superb acting of his supporting cast. I've watched this film more times than I can count - my kids have left the room more than once because they're sick of seeing it. I guess that's one way to get them to do their homework!
The Prototypical Cop Comedy.......2006-09-29
Every once in awhile a movie comes along that is truly different, truly fresh, and this movie was one of those. It stars Eddie Murphy as a Detroit cop named Axel Foley and is packed with action, comedy, a great soundtrack, and great scenes. The opening credits to Glenn Foley's "The Heat is On" are filled with a montage of Detroit street scenes that give a great flavor of Detroit, which will be juxtaposed with the glamour of Beverly Hills later in the movie.
The movie starts with Axel Foley negotiating the price of a semi truck full of cigarettes with a couple of mobsters. When they are surprised by a couple of uniformed Detroit cops in a squad car, one of the mobsters starts up the truck and takes off with Foley hanging on for dear life to a chain hanging from the top of the truck. This is one of the classicly funniest chase scenes ever done and ranks up with anything in the Blues Brothers.
Later Foley returns home after being chatised by his boss, Inspector Todd, played brilliantly by a real Detroit Detective named Gilbert R. Hill, only to find his friend from California in his kitchen. Later, when Foley's friend is murdered, he does the only thing a true friend would do, take vacation and head to California to track down the killers.
The rest of the movie is a look at how a gritty cop from Detroit gets along in glamorous Beverly Hills and more importantly how Beverly Hills gets along with a gritty Detroit cop.
Eddie Murphy is brilliant as Axel Foley poking fun at Beverly Hills, and Judge Reinhold and John Ashton are equally brilliant as Beverly Hills detectives assigned to watch Foley to keep him from creating havoc among Beverly Hills' elite. Along the way Bronson Pinchot almost completely steals the movie with an hilarious 5 minute part as a pretentious clerk in a swanky Beverly Hills art gallery.
All in all, this movie is a great two hours of entertainment that will leave you breathless, I can't recommend it enough.
Old School like the Old School.......2006-08-31
This is an excellent comedy/action movie that manages to be deeply funny without being offensive, a true accomplishment that sadly eludes many modern films. Set and cinematography are also excellent, without the over-the-top features that replace good plot and dialogue in many action/adventure/comedy films. Anybody without actual urban exposure might not notice the difference, but it was oddly nostalgic for me to see a close replica of my first crummy apartment in opening scenes of the movie.
Characters also, for the most part, manage to be interesting and compelling without being ridiculous and stilted steriotypes. Can you tell I have little patience for the increased-action-less-plot-and-character-development style of more recent movies? If you, too, like more story and personality in your movies, this is a great choice.
Customer Reviews:
Three great movies........2007-06-19
I like Beverly Hills cop. All three of the movies. They are all so well written and show off Eddy Murphys sharp, fast wit and comedy. Normally when you have a movie with a comedian there just ok in the script area and even worse in the acting. Well the storys in all three movies are well written and will keep your attention during the entire thing. And Eddy Murphy is pretty good at acting. I allways get a feeling of the 80s when I see this movie. I was born in 85 and it just makes me feel good watching them. So if you in the mood for a good, funny, well acted and written movie I must say, buy away.

The 1988 sequel to one of the most successful movies of all time finds Eddie Murphy reprising his role as Detroit police detective Axel Foley, and once again playing a fish out of water as he tries to solve a series of heists in Beverly Hills that may be connected to the attempted murder of his friend, a Beverly Hills police captain (Ronny Cox). Constructed in a much flashier and faster-paced visual style than the first film, the song still remains the same as Foley tries to keep his job in Detroit while solving crimes for the Beverly Hills cops. Murphy again makes the most of culture shock for comic effect, and the easy rapport between Murphy and Billy (Judge Reinhold), now a cheerfully over the top Rambo-esque figure, is still the centerpiece of this series. While not the least bit original, director Tony Scott (Crimson Tide, Top Gun) puts his own stamp on this installment and keeps the action and the laughs coming. --Robert Lane
Customer Reviews:
Beverly Hills Cop II.......2007-02-01
Beverly Hills Cop II~ Eddie Murphy is a good movie for a sequel. However, it is not as well done as the first movie. The music is downright awful. The fashion is even worst, and the script is not as well-written as the first movie. Still Eddie Murphy, is doing a great role as Axel Foley. Bridget Nielsen is awesome as the villain. I miss the chick that played Alex's sidekick. Still and all do not get the idea that I think that this is a bad movie by any means. It is just not as good as the first one. The again Beverly Hills Cop part one is one of the best cop/comedy movies of all time. I defefinitly give it 4 out of 5 stars.
Ding Ding.......2005-09-10
I'm pretty sure I watched the first one. Pretty sure. But this one is certainly a lot better than the first. This is what put me off watching the second one. I generally can't stand Eddie Murphy, I can just barely stand him in the Shrek movies. He's way too over the top for me. At the start of this film, he was overdoing his lines way too much, and I was regretting choosing this film. But it got surprisingly better, and bearable, to ignore Eddie Murphy.
I also annoyed my boyfriend greatly, as the theme tune to this, has become more well-known for being the theme to the Crazy Frog ringtone for mobiles. (Do you Americans have that over there yet? Avoid it all costs. I only have the 2 ringtones because I've been sent them by someone else.) So at the end of every little bit they played of the theme, I just HAD to say "ding ding". I had to start saying it to myself though. (And guess who only got the significance of the group's name, Axel F, halfway through the film?! I kept my mouth shut as my boyfriend would have been rolling about the floor with laughter. Hello, Eddie's character name is Axel Foley, how did I not put 2 & 2 together?! Duh.)
Hasn't Bridgette Nielsen aged? Especially from then to now. I recognised her in this film, since you can't exactly miss her, but when you see her now, it sends shivers up your spine. She's changed so much, and not for the better. How does she look at herself in the mirror? And as for the one, very gratuitous shot of her in the shooting range, boy does she have a set of legs on her! She seems a bit underused in this though.
There's cameos to be spotted in this film, including a very young Chris Rock (Murphy's predecessor?) and an almost dark haired Hugh Hefner.
This is definitely a better and more memorable film than the first one, although Eddie has definitely lost whatever made him good in the first place.
Beverly Hills Cop II .......2005-02-13
I like this one as much as the first, but I seem to watch this one more. The action, comedy, the supporting cast, everything made me like this. Check it out.
4.5 Stars Good movie for a sequel, not quite up to the first.......2004-12-15
This movie opens with a bang, and doesn't let up. It's just not quite as good as the original movie. There are some rather glaring gaps that make the movie not quite as believable.
First, how can there be a series of "Alphabet Crimes" if they've only gotten the letter for the second one.
Second, near the end, it's strange that the first cop cars arrive well in advance of the second, and yet there are no other cops around before the second group arrive.
Eddie Murphy shines bright. His fast talking almost equals the first one. The scene in the garage is classic and ties the two movies together with yet another cast member that were in the first hit.
Paul Reiser is even more obnoxious this time. He just doesn't stop talking. He says "This isn't my office!" which correlates to the first with the locker room scene.
Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Ronny Cox all return successfully continuing their shining roles. This time we also get treated to Brigitte Nielsen as the tall blonde bombshell. Dean Stockwell stuggles does a decent job as the fairly inept Charles Cain. Allen Garfield joins this movie as the blunt Chief who won't listen to anyone and tells everyone else to "Shut-up" repeatedly. Gilbert Godfried is hilarious as the C.P.A (Certifiable Public Annoyance). He plays a financial advisor in his typical over the top style. Chris Rock stars as a valet trying to figure out how to park a cement truck. Hugh Heffner has a cameo with many of his playmates.
Not as good as the first but ultimately enjoyable. If it weren't for the gaps this would've gotten 5 stars from me.
Beverly Hills Cop II.......2004-10-11
Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is back in the hit sequel, Beverly Hills Cop 2. Many times sequels to original blockbuster films are sucky. There even more sucky when the sequel is done by a different director (Tony Scott) than the original film (Martin Brest) , but in this case that's not the case. Beverly Hills Cop 2 is amazingly good, it's funny, has a good script,
has action and suspense.
THe story in this film is that Axel's buddy, and friend former Chief Andrew Bogomil (Ronny Cox) has been shot and left for dead by a crazy lunatic arms dealer named Karly Fry (brilliant done by Brigitte Nielsen).
Axel , back in Detroit, heads to Beverly Hills to see his friend and to aid his fellow friends Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) in getting justice for his friend.
However, a new police chief Harold Lutz (Allen Garfield) a small man with lots of power, plans to derail their investigation while at the same kissing the butt of the mayor (Robert Ridgely) to further his career and reputation.
Like I said, Beverly Hills Cop 2 has alot of action. There are gun fights, car chases and everything found in a good action flick.
However, I also liked the fact that all the characters were back in the film and that all of them were as close as ever.
Billy Rosewood, the nice and anal friend of Taggart, has become a wannabee Rambo type guy collecting guns and weapons leading to Taggart telling him that "We need to talk". lol
However, Billy and Taggart in the last film do become helpful in helping Axel, along with giving us a couple of good laughs.
Axel (Eddie Murphy) is again at his comical best, doing everything legal and illegal to find out whose behind his friend's shooting and bringing them down hard.
All in all, Beverly Hills Cop 2 is a great sequel to the original. Many of the cool music tunes are back along with a couple of new ones, plus the film manages to recreate the hysterical laughs from the first film and adds alot of action.
There has actually been 2 games made of Beverly Hills Cop. One for the PC and one for the Commodore 64.

Third time is not quite the charm for Eddie Murphy's Axel Foley when he heads for L.A. once again to avenge a friend's murder. This time he's off to the Disneyesque WonderWorld, apparently the most hazardous theme park in America despite an army of shady security agents. John Landis directed Murphy in his first film hit, Trading Places, and would seem a good match for this mix of action and comedy, but his sense of fun only emerges in a few scenes (chubby mechanics do a gymnastic Blues Brothers number to a Diana Ross tune) and his action direction is sloppy and shockingly violent. It seems wrong for the comic tone, and Murphy should have his foul mouth washed out with soap. On the plus side, Bronson Pinchot returns as Serge and all but upstages Murphy in two brief but hilarious scenes. --Sean Axmaker
Customer Reviews:
Beverly Hills Cop III.......2007-02-02
Beverly Hills Cop III~ Eddie Murphy is not a terrible movie. Then again if you compare this sequel to the two first movies then one must say that it is a disappointment. Eddie Murphy is not nearly as funny as in the first two movies and the script is half lame as if they had run out of ideas. The plot is paper thin, and a total hoot compared to the two previous movies. Man, I was really looking forward to watching this movie after having seen the two other movies. This is a mediocre movie at best and gets the 2 stars that it deserves. Not recommended.
With a film title like this one, I expected quite alot and was disappointed big time.......2007-01-03
"Are you going to work with Eddie Murphy again?" Asked to John Landis by someone at the 1992 Fangoria Convention. "I hope not," Landis replied. Now keep in mind this was in reference to them working together in "Coming to America," not this film. I have no idea why they teamed up together again, because the evidence from this film shows they must have really disliked one another even more. Look at this film and then look at "Trading Places," their first collaboration and you can begin to see the differences. I thought with this third "Beverly Hills Cop," Landis was going to support the story adaquately, then for the action scenes show his wild spirit (ala the ending sequences of "Animal House," "American Werewolf," and "Blues Brothers"), and for the comedy, roll two to three cameras and let Eddie play with each scene. If Landis could give Michael Jackson room to do what he wanted in the "Black or White" video, why not let Eddie do what he does best instead of forcing his character and us the audience through a bunch of painfully unfunny scenes, terrible acting, and a tv movie look? Sure it looks better on dvd than it did in the theatres, but that is still no excuse for betraying the core of this series. If it had tried to do something different and been successful, this film would be liked much more. The reason why it is so hated is because the film has no pulse or soul--something I never thought possible for John Landis or Eddie Murphy.
Both men are capable of great things but lord have mercy on this film and give everyone their two hours back.
Classic Eddie Murphy.......2006-06-27
This movie is not as good as the first three movies, probably because it follows a bit of the same formula from the first two. Even so, it is a good movie. Rosewood and Serge rejoin Foley as all crimes in Detroit seem to lead to Southern California. Detective Taggert is replaced, which is a shame since his replacement does not seem to have the same chemistry the three main characters had in the first movie. Even so, it is definitely worth owning if you enjoyed the first two in the series.
BAD.......2005-07-21
Beverly Hills Cop III is the last installment in an awesome trilogy where nonstop laughter and action occurs. The first 2 are classics and the original is especially a definite must see.
But, this one isn't at all as good as the first two. But....
THe movie is fairly descent with some ok action and funny moments but there aren't enough funny moments and the action is cheesy. Plus the whole movie basically takes place in a theme park. Yeah, a place like Disneyland called Wonderworld. So, I was sitting down, listening to some stupid theme song go off every second. I was about to rip my hair out. I mean, it was annoying. Also, R rated movies shouldn't take place in a theme park! It just seemed too babyish. On top of it, it's just such a dissapointment to me because the first 2 were classic and this one was a horrible end to the trilogy. If you watch this without watching the first 2, you'll like it better than me. And for those of you giving it 4 or 5 stars, come on! THe Wonderworld setting alone screwed it over!
Watch the first 2 and act like this doesn't even exist because even though it isn't the worst movie ever, it is a horrid end to the trilogy and an affront to the first two.
Not bad, but doesn't live up to the other two movies.......2005-07-04
BHC 3 is a pretty good movie, it's just that this movie doesn't fit how the others were made. First, the movie is about Axel Foley back to Beverly Hills to investigate the murder of his boss Inspector Todd. Its ends up making him go to an amusement park Wonderworld (Paramounts Great America) to find the killers. When I watched it for the first time, I thought it was decent. The stunts like the jumping around the ferris wheel were cool. I like how the fact they used rides at parks that are popular to do with the scenes like the rendition of the Earthquake ride at the Universal Studios and the Kindom of the Dinosaurs at Knotts Berry Farm. Rosewood is back, but that's it.
Some of the things that made this movie disappointing was the use of an amusement park for a R rated film. Most likely if amusement parks are associated, it would be a family film. This type of setting does not appeal to the fans of previous BHC's. the plot was mediocre, not any real good suspense. The annoying aspect was the stupid music in the background of Wonder World, if music were to play at a real theme park everyone would be very mad.
Plus the most important of all, the absence of Taggart (John Aston) and Bogomil (Ronny Cox). I think Part 2 was the best because Taggart and Rosewood teamed up with Foley to solve the cases. Thats what made the series great. The chemistry of the laughs and adventures were what made the previous films funny. This film is so-so on the comedy. Axel Floey however doesn't do the funny ab-lib like in the other ones.
This is a great film to add to your collection of BHC movies, but it may not be your favorite, due to absences in characters.

Beverly Hills Cop
The heat is on in this fast paced action-comedy starring Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, a street smart Detroit cop tracking down his best friend's killer in Beverly Hills. Axel quickly learns that his wild style doesn't fit in with the Beverly Hills Police Department, which assigns two officers (Judge Reinhold & John Ashton) to make sure things don't get out of hand. Dragging the stuffy detectives along for the ride, Axel smashes through a huge culture clash in his hilarious, high-speed pursuit of justice. Featuring cameos by Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot and Damon Wayans, Beverly Hills Cop is an exhilarating, sidesplitting adventure.
Trading Places
The fun begins when the rich and greedy Duke Brothers (Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy) wager a bet over whether born loser Valentine (Eddie Murphy) could become as successful as the priggish Winthorpe (Dan Akroyd) if circumstances were reversed. The Dukes have the money to make this happen, but when Valentine and Winthorpe catch on they arrange for a rich and riotous payback!
48 Hrs.
Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy make one of the most unusual and entertaining teams ever in Walter Hill's rollercoaster thriller, 48 Hrs. Nolte is a rough-edged cop after two vicious cop-killers. He can't do it without the help of smooth and dapper Murphy, who is serving time for a half-million dollar robbery. This unlikely partnership trades laughs as often as punches as both pursue their separate goals: Nolte wants the villains; Murphy wants his money and some much-needed female companionship. Together they take this adventure to hilarious extremes!

Eddie's 3 first.... and 3 best!.......2007-01-02
Yup... his 3 first... and 3 best films.... all in one package... for $11.99! What a steal! Sure, I'd love bonus features, deleted scenes, and all that fun stuff, but for $4 each, I'm not complaining. Great deal for the best of Eddie!

Recommended!
the first one is great!..the rest are..:(.......2007-04-24

Amazon.com essential video
--Tom Keogh
