At long last, one of the seminal films of the Melanie Griffith oeuvre is now available. Cherry 2000 is the heartwarming tale of Sam Treadwell (David Andrews), who will stop at nothing to find another model of his broken sex android. Griffith plays E. Johnson, the tough-as-nails tracker who helps him track her down. As deliriously chowderheaded as the premise of the movie sounds, it's actually not half bad and immensely fun to watch. The surprisingly mature plot (nobody gets naked!) involves Treadwell's gradual discovery that there's more to a good woman than a beautiful body and perfect subservience. Don't worry, there are plenty of explosions to keep you from getting bored. Griffith absolutely owns the movie--she looks like a complete badass handling surface-to-air missiles, though of course she still sounds like she picked up diction tips from early Shirley Temple movies. The DVD version includes the invaluable documentary "The Making of Cherry 2000" and the option of watching the entire film dubbed into French. Do not pass up the French version: it really brings out the art. --Ali Davis

i saw this movie, a long time ago, and i have the opportunity to watch it again recently, far beyond from another futuric flicks, this pass the test of time ok, Melanie Griffith looks amazing beautiful with her intense red punk hair, and the way that she talk is in some way hot, and the guy from graveyard shift, i dont know why but, he had a Don johnson similarity and the wear he used in the movie (miami vice). The director maybe had the idea to make a movie in the mood of blade runner but he fall short in this, maybe the budget dont help. this a decent film and is worth to buy it but the nostalgic value.

Disappointing. Way too tame for an 80s post-apocalyptic flick.......2006-08-22

The Amazon ratings for this movie were quite high so I thought I'd buy it and check it out for myself. Overall, quite a disappointing movie, especially after reading those great reviews. Don't get me wrong. I love old-school post-apocalyptic 80s movies. I also love movies with blatantly flawed acting/storylines which can make it fun to watch and laugh at, however, this movie was not good enough to be a masterpiece or bad enough to be funny and enjoyable. For a post-apocalyptic movie, there's nothing really shocking about the uncivilised future and the characters just aren't quirky enough as compared to something like Mad Max. There's no blood, gore or pain whatsoever so the shock factor is nil and the action scenes are quite lacklustre as a result. The bad guys don't act or look crazy enough (for a bunch of barbarians, they are way too civilised) and E. Johnson, the female tracker seems fairly emotionless and is quite a boring character.

Overall, this movie seems very slow because there is little dynamics. I could see people yawning and someone in the TV room fell asleep. Its a shame 'cos I like the storyline and as an 80s flick I was hoping to at least see some terrible 80s hair-dos/fashion but you won't even get that. Its way too tame.

Dumb but very appealing.......2006-07-21

There is just something appealing about this movie. Melanie Griffith is cute, the story is dumb but very enjoyable, the situations are very predictable but still fun and the acting is bit below professional quality but bearable. In other words, this is really a rather bad movie, but somehow it transcends that dumbness and is just plain fun to watch. I wish I could explain it better, but I really can't. I like this movie a lot, but after it's over, I can rip huge holes in it. If you just want fun, try this and don't even bother to try to explain it.

Tired up his eyes by abusive, psycho-neurotic, dominative, sadist girlfriend and stupid patrons at a bakery he works, Selwyn is desperate to change a life. And working for No Use for a Name music band is a handy option to execute.

However, it was not the best decision because he soon started being used to ridiculing, humiliating and simple bulling by rock musicians to convince each other in their "show-industry stars-on-rise" social and intellectual superiority over a "cake boy".

A lucky chap, left barefoot in the middle of the night somewhere on the middle of the road to the nearest inhabited place, he both made a couple of miles to an eatery, and was served, on spot employed,provided with poor but reliable accommodation.

After a few more events, some of them satirically-mimicking supposedly- French attitudes and Hollywood-style life-death brink-actions, all problems were finalized happily.

In the best traditions of American musical comedies, his boss invalid niece had him seduced and given hot time to extent of becoming an object of his desire, passion and love. She had even saved his life by hitting with wheelchair an ex-girlfriend of him to drop a pistol.

Preferring more explicit viewing of the love-making by people born with disabilities might find Adreas Serrano photographs of definite relevant addition to this movie.

So far, a set concludes both DVD and CD of fifteen musical tracks -and this is a very clever idea.

I highly recommend this KUNG-FU FILMS production by Joe Escalante.

Cool movie lousy budget..........2006-07-09

This is a very independent but poorly made movie... It lacks cast, crew and editing process. But its a nice attempt for a DIY punk rock film. If you like No Use For A Name and C}california punk rock bands, go for it!...
