Four gorgeous women are invited to a remote island to participate in a fighting tournament.
Customer Reviews:
The best thing about the movie is the trailer........2007-09-14
This movie is more like a two part "She Spies". Mechanically done fight sequences, cheesy computer graphics (well, at least the computerized video scoring screens are a new idea for a karate movie), and loads of cute girls to stare at are worth the cost of renting the DVD. Tura Satana--where are you when we need you?
3.5 stars.......2007-09-13
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this film. After reading about all the delays, horrid reviews, and the whole week it played in my local theatre, I had to convince myself to rent it. Now I have to convince myself not to buy it.
If you like movies in the vein of "Mortal Kombat", then this is for you. Minimal plot to keep you busy through the fight scenes, but the plot actually makes sense. The fight scenes are very well-choreographed. But I expect no less from Corey Yuen, who is simply brilliant. The acting was what it was. Devon Aoki came through better than she did in "War"; Jamie Pressly was a lot of fun as Tina; Holly Valance did a nice job as Christie, and Sarah Carter was a good Helena. Natasse Malthe was a bit under-used, and that did disappoint me; the ads and interviews would have you believe she was a main character.
And that really was the problem with this movie, the PR. The big scene everyone talked about with the five girls taking on 300 warriors? Nope, not the film at all. It was hyped the wrong way. Oh, and it was a bit too short at 87 minutes or so.
As for the DVD, the features are somewhat sparse. About 10 deleted scenes which shouldn't have been deleted, and a 20 minute "making of" sequence. That's it. For $25 I expect a bit more.
If you're looking for a good flick to kill some time, go for it. The next "Enter the Dragon" it isn't, but it is well-above the disasters which were "Bloodrayne", "House of 100 Corpses" and other video-game flicks done by Uwe Boll.
Entertaining & Sexy.......2007-09-13
I used to be a fan of the games, back when I played video games. So the movie got my attention. Not enough to see it in the cinema, but upon its DVD release this week I bought it on impluse without even seeing it. I'm happy with the purchase after watching it yesterday. I was very worried this was going to be real bad and I be pissed spending full price for it. But not so. I'm a 28 y/o guy. I'm not a teenage boy, and still the movie had enough sex appeal just like the game to keep my intrest. I found the film entertaining throughout & funny in parts and stupid in others. They even throw in beach volleyball like the game...clever. I do agree with other reviewers Christie is very appealing, and same for Helena...I didn't care to much for Tina's character in the film though.
Overall if you like alot of eye candy with cool action sequences, then you'll enjoy the film I think. They should have made it more violent & sexier with an R rating...my personal thought..
A bona-fide guilty pleasure.......2007-09-12
Video game to film adaptations rarely work as you no doubt already know. Chances are if you've seen any previews of the Dead or Alive movie, you most likely laughed at how ridiculous it looked. Well, guess what? Here it is on DVD, and it's surprisingly not the terrible waste of film that many (including me) thought it would be. Sure, it's nothing remotely great in the least, and even laughable in some spots, but as a whole, Dead or Alive is a fun and entertaining guilty pleasure that does it's job well. A martial arts tournament is being held on a remote island, with many of the competitors being in the form of some incredibly hot babes (Holly Valance, Jamie Pressly, Devon Aoki, Sarah Carter, Natassia Malthe), who soon learn that there is more going on than it seems. The action is good (courtesy of Transporter director Corey Yuen) and the movie delivers plenty of eye candy, no matter how inane or non-sensical the events that unfold turn out to be. That aside, the film manages to pay some delightful homage to it's source material (volleyball anyone?), and while it's not always faithful to it, it's still a fun ride regardless. Also featuring Eric Roberts, former wrestling star Kevin Nash, Matthew Marsden, Brian J. White (who looks exactly like Zack from the game) and look for Mortal Kombat star Robin Shou as the Pirate Leader.
Suprisingly Clever.......2007-09-11
I had no expectations one way or the other walking into the theater to see D.O.A. When my friends and I came out, we talked and laughed about it for an hour. This movie knows its limitations and never takes itself too seriously, but has the interesting flavor of pretending its a serious movie all the way through. (It turns out there's a big, visible difference between thinking you're a serious low budget movie and playing pretend.) Ridiculous things will happen with actors and actresses approaching their jobs in character and straight-faced, allow the viewer to indulge in a very pleasant vacation from reality.
While it couldn't successfully translate the actual plot line of the video games to the big screen, D.O.A. is shockingly full of nods to the series. You can tell that the team actually played and paid attention to the source material. While Kasumi and Hayabusa have switched roles (Kasumi the serious ninja and Hayabusa a little wide eyed), this was necessary, after all, to keep the Super Ninja from dominating the movie. All the other characters strongly reference their original characters, with wonderful little surprises throughout for those of us who have played the video game series casually or competitively. The plot itself is a hybrid of the plot lines of the various games.
Did I mention the martial arts sequences are brilliantly shot and incredibly well choreographed? They are excellent. Little more needs to be said. Fans of martial arts flicks will not be disappointed.
This little gem does everything it can with what it has to work with, showcasing some fantastic action in a smart framework. D.O.A. is downright fun.

Ethan Hawke, fresh faced and full of determination, tackles the icy wilds and rowdy boom towns of Alaska in Disney's 1991 adaptation of Jack London's turn-of-the-century gold rush classic. Though somewhat tamed for young audiences, the story of a city kid who befriends a feral half-wolf/half-dog orphan while learning to survive the dangers of nature and man has its share of peril and rousing scenes of wilderness adventure. But the humans are upstaged by both the animals (the standoff between White Fang and a wild brown bear is a highlight) and the Alaskan landscape, from the snow-covered mountains and frozen lakes of winter to the rich green forests and whitecap rivers of summer. The scenes of dogfights and wild wolves hunting game are carefully shot to avoid bloodshed (the opening disclaimer takes pains to remind viewers that all such scenes have been simulated), but they may still be too intense for young children. Recommended for 9 and up. --Sean Axmaker

Customer Reviews:
Good movie ---but nothing like the book.......2007-05-31
I had read White Fang with my 8th graders recently and thought it might be good to compare with the movie. WOAH! Who is Jack? Where was Weedon Scott? Gray Beaver is actually kind of a nice guy in this movie. It was a good adventure movie, but if you are expecting it to be like the book, think again. It WAS good to show the students that movies aren't always accurate to the book, and that was a good lesson to teach. I would have liked this production to be truer to the novel, but not a bad movie to enjoy with the family.
White Fang.......2007-05-12
A very well orchastrated and touching sequel to that age old classic "Call of the Wild." I loved the book and the old movie, and this has proven to be a classic in the making to match it. The actors were believable and had you right in the midst of their struggles, clashes, and victories. Heart tugging and a tear jerker at times. It is definitely a keeper and well worth to add to ones library of films.
Delightful Surprise.......2007-04-29
I own this movie. First saw it on satellite because I love Jack London and the TIVO caught this because it is based on his novel. Even though it is different from the novel it captures the spirit of his story and as Ebert says, it is great entertainment in its own right. Anyone who loves canines is going to love this movie. Even some people I know who don't love canines, still loved the movie.
I liked it so much I bought the DVD. Excellent story, excellent soundtrack (the music is beautiful), excellent cinematography, excellent acting by both man and beast. Four stars because as like another previous reviewer, to release a movie as beautiful as this one in pan and scan instead of widescreen is a crime. Why Disney? This movie deserved widescreen. This movie is quality, maybe the best Disney live action movie, surely the best Disney live action movie I have ever seen. Good for repeated viewing at my house and well worth the purchase.
White Fang.......2007-01-11
I was very pleased. Will order other movies.
Thanks,
Diana Myers
What does this have to do with Jack London's book?.......2007-01-09
I love Jack London's books and have since childhood, so it's hard for me to understand why Disney would take a classic book title and make up a new story to go under it. I re-read WHITE FANG two months ago and there is precious little in this movie that was in the book. Jack London did not write kiddie books (nor did Anna Sewell, for that matter) and I understand how difficult it would be to adapt his works to the screen and get a family rating. Even so, people who read and loved the book and expect to see an adaptation of the original classic might well be terribly disappointed. If it's a good film and a good original script, then it should be allowed its own title and the Disney writers should get the credit for the story.
Product Description
Featuring 25 Great Adventure Episodes! White Fang the television series is an adaptation of Jack London's similarly titled novel, which has been heralded as one of the greatest adventure stories of all time. So well loved was the tale of a boy and his loyal wolf-dog that the story spawned a feature film, an animated series, and the TV series that is featured here. These are the exciting tales of a teenage boy, Matt Scott (Jaimz Woolvett), who is devoted to his loyal canine companion White Fang, and the breathtaking adventures they share in the untamed wilderness of the Rocky Mountains.

Scott Bairstow takes over for Ethan Hawke in this spirited (if clichéd) sequel involving a peaceful Haida Indian tribe and a con man in preacher's garb (Alfred Molina, just oozing evil) in 1906 Alaska. Bairstow discovers his inner wolf as he bonds with the tribe and falls in love with the chief's spirited daughter (Charmaine Craig), White Fang finds true love in a snow-white female wolf, and together they take on the dastardly villains who have stopped the caribou and imprisoned the hunters of the tribe. Less Jack London than a juvenile Dances with Wolves, this clunky but action-packed cliffhanger combines old-fashioned matinee Western clichés with Native American spiritualism and a celebration of nature. Though it's hardly subtle, the energetic action scenes and the beauty of the Alaskan summer make this an engaging adventure for the younger set. --Sean Axmaker

Fast shipping, good packaging, and exactly what I ordered.......2006-03-26
The DVD came quickly, was shipped in a box with bubble wrap, and it was exactly the item I ordered.
Another Great Adventure..........................2003-03-03
In this movie Jack has gone back to San Francisco and his friend Henry is mining his claim and caring for White Fang.
This story is mixed with Native American spiritualality and mysticism. They are in need of the white wolf (White Fang, or is it Henry?) to lead them to the caribou they are in need of to prevent starvation among their people.
This sequel is very entertaining with beautiful scenery.
A great family film.
Disney made this up........2003-01-23
I've read White fang and there is no mention of Myth of a White Wolf. Disney had to have a sequel, so they made up this story.
Great Family Movie.......2002-07-06
I have watched this movie a number of times and still find the story to be interesting. The simplicity and predictability of this movie makes it a great movie for younger elementary children, but there is enough plot and action to keep the family entertained. I enjoy the Alaskan setting and the images of the Haida village. There is a love story woven in with the young hero's role of finding the caribou and saving the village, but neither plot goes into anything overly sentimental or complicated.
I have used this movie in a fourth grade classroom to have them identify the main characters, the setting, the problem(plot), and the solution: things that are found in any good story, be it written or in a movie. They enjoyed the movie and it worked well for the assignment. This is a great family movie because it contains these basic story elements and does it well, making it watchable again and again.
White Wolf.......2001-03-08
All I can say is that this was a brillent movie. I'm glad i saw the 2nd White Fang first. The first one was a big turn off to me. The story is about a young man who is having some dificultly understanding the native americans beliefs. With the Help of White fang a a native american girl Henry begins to understand thier ways, but he is soon to discover that the native Americans life is in danger and only he and white fang can save them.

Customer Reviews:
It smells like a hun.......2004-05-27
Tigers are running amok in the jungles of Damang, disrupting Allied communications and killing local natives. Frank (Bring `Em Back Alive) Buck is called in to rescue the situation.
On his arrival at the MacCardle Rubber Plantation Buck discovers the natives chanting about `chindags' - evil humans who assume the form wild animals, in this case tigers. After a little investigation Buck concludes "The japs, or the `monkey people,' as they call `em, have possessed the souls of the tigers."
TIGER FANGS was directed by Sam Newfield, who is probably most famous for THE TERROR OF TINY TOWN (1938), a western with an all-midget cast. Apparently he worked pretty fast; TIGER FANGS is one of sixteen movies he directed in 1943. Frank Buck is a credible actor, although it had to be because of his fame as a animal collector that he's in this one. Another kinda recognizable face is that of Duncan Renaldo, who played the Cisco Kid in movies and on television in the late `40s and early `50s.
TIGER FANGS is an entertaining little movie with the good guys triumphant in the end. Buck had a reputation for treating his animals humanely, so parents won't have to worry about scenes of animal abuse or mistreatment. There are some racists attitudes, like the above quote, that might make this one unsuitable for children in some households.

i bought a copy of this DVD and got it very fast, i loved every action packed episode and they are all safe for little kids to watch.
Too much action.......2007-07-28
The show never slows down from beginning to end. Too much cliff-hanging drama in a half-hour show. Music too intense. However, this is safe fare for families desiring an alternative to junk TV.

White Fang is the Genuine!.......2007-08-03
I got a copy of this DVD for christmas, I watched every episode and loved them all. My best friend said that there was nothing good on TV anymore, they may be nothing on TV anymore that is appropriate for young children but there is still always White Fang, a safe alternative to TV junk, that the whole family will love, I know that my family does.
White Fang is a great series for the whole family to watch........2006-09-14
I purchased a copy of White Fang Volume 1 and found that it is a great show and something that the whole family can watch and enjoy.
I have ordered Vol 2 and Vol 3 and my whole family is anxiously awaiting the delivery of the dvds so that we may watch more adventures of White Fang.
I would highly recommend this series to families who want a good show that they can watch together.

Garbage.......2007-07-03
Poor sound and video only makes this poorly made film even more painful to watch. I loved White Fang 1 and 2 so this was a huge disappointment. This isn't a Disney film. It is a cheaply made Italian film. Poor cliches and acting everywhere. I love many of the spaghetti westerns but this was horrible. I couldn't even sit through the whole film.
TOO BAD IT IS NOT LETTERBOXED.......2003-08-02
This is not a bad Spaghetti Western with snow, not bad for the price either, however this is a pan and scan print of obviously a 2:35 to 1 aspect ratio, but most of the action is central to the screen, so not as many "talking noses" per say....The print was grainy in some parts but oddly adds to the European feel of the film. Maurizio Merli does a credible job as the good guy and fahter figure to the boys and dog (German Shepard or Alaskan Huskie) and the heavy is played with his usual serving of ham by Henry Silva and a small supporting role by Irish star turned Italian film catylist Donald OBrian. Also for Spaghetti Western, the film is quite mild and very little violence or adult situation. The excellent score is by Carlo Rustichelli who scored several films for the late Gioseppi Collizi such as Boot Hill and Ace High. It has a few extras, for some odd reason an Little Rascal short and a dvd dictionary. I would like to see Lucio Fulci's White Fang and its sequel released as well on dvd...Overall this is not a bad family film
WHITE FANG TO THE RESCUE.......2003-01-15
This DVD cover is missleading!!! This has nothing to do with the "WHITE WOLF WHITE FANG" The white fang in this movie is a German sheapard -- that people in the movie call a wolf! Get real there is a big difference in a Wolf and a dog!
The people that put out this DVD should not claim it is "Based on the novel by JACK LONDON WHITE FANG TO THE RESCUE"!
WHITE FANG.......2000-06-17
A young boy gains the trust of a wild wolfhound, which acts as a protector and best friend for the lonely kid. This comes in handy when he gets involved with a famous journalist (Franco Nero), who exposes a web of corruption in a small Klondike mining town, led by a ruthless grasping businessman named Beauty Smith (John Steiner).
WHITE FANG is a change of pace for Fulci. After directing the violent gialli LIZARD IN A WOMAN'S SKIN and DON'T TORTURE A DUCKLING, he decided to aim for a more 'wholesome' movie. He succeeds quite well, and is helped no end by excellent location photography (though some of the opening scenes do look like they were filmed on a stage) and decent actors. Though Franco Nero's lead performance is capable, he pales in comparison with the likes of John Steiner's greedy, seedy villain and Fernando Rey's drunken preacher, whose faith doesn't keep him from raiding the church collection box to buy whisky!
Unfairly neglected by film fans and Fulci buffs alike, this does deserve greater consideration, and despite it being intended for children, it does go a little overboard on violence, with a lingering scene where Fang duels with a grizzly bear.
Fulci's sequel, CHALLENGE TO WHITE FANG, has much the same cast and crew, and is also worth seeing - if you get the chance.
More excitment than the 1972 movie.......1999-09-08
White Fang once again bounces into action when a human friend gets killed by greedy gold-rushers. Fang and another human friend finds the body and the second man decides to switch idenities with the other. This sets up into a plot involving the murdered man's son, who is the heir to his dad's deed and the villains of the film kidnap him to sqander the fortune, while the man is falsely under suspition of the murder. It is then up to White Fang to save the day. This is the 1974 sequel to the 1972 "White Fang" movie from Italy, both from gore-horror film-maker Lucio Fulci. I kinda since the story to "Rescue" is a little blotchy. For instance, what ever motivated the guy in the first place to switch idenities with the murder victim? Maybe it was to protect the deed and confrot the murderers, but did it ever occur to him a stunt like this would get himself framed for killing a man? Who knows. And there is a little rusty acting on the human part. But "White Fang to The Rescue" isn't at all a bad film. As in the original movie, the best thing was the dog cast as the title hero. Even more of a pleasure to dog-lovers, Fang is given more to do in this film. He tries to rescue the boy from a bear, can open doors with his mouth, he again attempts to rescue the boy from the kidnappers, which is the best part of the film that shows what an unaverage smart canine Fang is. It's intresting that he can be savage or other times be loving and loyal like Rin Tin Tin. And watch out for a spatacular dramatic scene where Fang crashes through a glass window like the other film, and a tense cliffhanger where he puts his life at a limb saving the child one more time. Like its predicessor, 'Rescue" is good entertainment despite any little flaws.
