Action-god Jackie Chan does his best James Bond impression with this ecstatic sequel to the classic Supercop. The bare-bones plot has Chan in pursuit of international terrorists, but the narrative quickly gives way to an unceasing barrage of insane stunt work (including a nitro-fueled ski chase and a grandiose fight scene set inside a functioning shark tank). As with most of the aging star's recent films, there is more of an emphasis placed on big, impersonal (albeit impressive) stunts rather than the close-up combat that made him famous; but the end result is still a must-see rush for longtime fans, and a great introduction for newcomers eager to see what all the well-deserved fuss is about. The scene where Jackie takes on multiple goons while armed only with a ladder is one of his most jaw-dropping set pieces ever--and that's saying quite a lot. Be sure to stick around for the closing credits of gags gone awry, which graphically prove that Chan is truly the hardest working man in show business. --Andrew Wright

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars "i will follow you".......2007-06-23

As many of you Jackie Chan fans may already know (and those who aren't fans are about to find out), Chan has his own uniqueness that makes him one of a kind. One of the elements about his action films that makes Jackie Chan, "Jackie Chan", is the humor. In "Jackie Chan's First Strike" we get to see some humor, but what there is more of is just pure fun. Where most of the fun lies, is in some of the coolest action scenes in any Chan film.

First Strike is basically part 4 in the popular Police Story series, arguably the best series of movies with Chan. Police Story 1 & 2 had a decent amount of comedy, but also a lot of seriousness. Supercop was quite serious. First Strike is the most fun out of the bunch, but has its serious moments too. As mentioned earlier, its the action that is so much fun. Plenty of scenes from beginning to end that will surely thrill from a great ski/snowboarding scene in the beginning, chases & fights, the incredible & famous "ladder fight" scene, and the incredible fun and somewhat humerous aquarium underwater scene.

The plot in First Strike is actually not all that dull, but might seem a little common for a Chan film. Jackie is hunting down some people who are dealing with nuclear weapons, and ends up working on the wrong side by mistake. The action picks up in the movie when he discovers he was working for the bad guys, he's a wanted man, and they begin to come after him. The English dubbing, though not great, is satisfying for a Chan film, actually helping in bringing out the fun factor.

Arguably the best scene in the movie, and of the best Jackie Chan scenes ever, is the famous ladder scene (although the particular fight is not limited to just a ladder). It is truly amazing to see what can become a weapon and how he uses them with such incredible choreography that is intelligently used to make a simple brawl just an outright blast. The honorable mention scene is the finale, which is an underwater fight at an aquarium. Chan provides some cool underwater martial arts action at times, as well as plenty of comic relief when attempting to avade the shark in the aquarium. There is no big stunt scene like in some of his other movies, but the biggest are jumping from a cliff onto a helicopter and taking a red sprts car off a ramp and into a movie boat.

For a Jackie Chan fan, this is a must for the collection. First Strike is just an all-out fun film that anyone can enjoy, and most likely will. Oh yeah, and there is a scene where he is forced to sing naked outside "I will follow you..." Just hilarious.

5 out of 5 stars Jackie Chan does James Bond.......2007-01-31

Near the beginning of the movie there is a downhill ski chase scene like straight out of a James Bond movie. Later Jackie even says "I feel just like James Bond, only no gorgeous girls," but the next scene we get to see the gorgeous girl. This is one of my favorite Jackie Chan movies, I guess partly because I also like James Bond. As usual, Jackie does some great stunts and amazing fighting scenes.

4 out of 5 stars Fun 007 Spoof!.......2006-05-18

This is not one the best stories you will ever find in a Chan movie but it has some of the best and funniest moments i have ever seen in his movies the classic ladder scene is my second favorite fight scene ever made ,the first being a tie betwenn the axe gang and final fights in drunken mast II, also the underwater kung-fu is great there are also some funny 007ish moments like the whole snow mobile ski scene also the fsb agents so in all this is a good fun movie!

4 out of 5 stars 2 sdtars for the movie, 5 stars for under-water fu.......2006-04-24

Now the movie itself is a little better than the rumble in the bronx or nice guy, but as a whole it kicks the sheeit out of those movies. The story isn't really worth going over, he goes on a mission. But the 2 things that stand out are the water fights and the ladder fight. Truly only jackie could come up with this stuff. And he is not even liste as the coordinator, but you knwo he had to have a hand in it. Overall this is only a 3 star movie at best, but with jackie literally jumping through this ladder and swinging it like he was trained his whole life with it. And there is another nice little movie within a movie at the end.

And I have to say that the american version of thisw si very good, the dubbing is better than usual, the 5.1 sound kicks ass, and if someone has a bette version of this, than post it on here.

1 out of 5 stars ORIGINAL IS BETTER~!!.......2006-02-05

If you want UNCUT ORIGINAL version, ALWAYS look for ORIGINAL LICENSED Production. NOT US Release. Its a foreign film, it should not be US version to begin with~! HELLO!!!?? Why settle for LESS with US Version where they edit and cut so many excellent scenes especially with Jackie's Fighting Scenes. And US Release ruins the speed and sound as well. I have been collecting Jackie Chan's movies both HK and US Release Version for quite some time now. I found HK Version to be MUCH MORE in enjoyable, and HIGHER in Quality. American Market always like to "Americanize" and "Control". Regional Code Regulation thing is one of the example to CONTROL the Market. Why not let everyone enjoy the same HK Original Release move the same way ENTIRE WORLD enjoys it ?? No one makes Hollywood American movies to "French version" or "Chinese Version" ~! This what Americans are doing~! Well, enjoy the cheap "American version" then~! LOL

Jackie Chan finally conquered America with Rumble in the Bronx (1995). With his disarming smile and feline physicality, the compact Chan radiates star quality. But there's more to him than charisma: at his best, the actor combines the relentlessly escalating, hyperkinetic action set-pieces for which Hong Kong is famous; the rigorous martial arts training of his idol, Bruce Lee; and the grace and daring that distinguish Buster Keaton's physical comedy. Not that it matters, really, but the plot of Rumble in the Bronx has something to do with Chan helping the woman who has taken over his uncle's neighborhood market when she is harassed by local hoodlums. What really matters is Chan, and he's in fine form.

Chan does his best James Bond impression with First Strike (1996), an ecstatic sequel to the classic Supercop. The bare-bones plot has him in pursuit of international terrorists, but the narrative quickly gives way to an unceasing barrage of insane stunt work (including a nitro-fueled ski chase and a grandiose fight scene set inside a functioning shark tank).

In Mr. Nice Guy (1997), Chan is involuntarily involved in a gang war between stereotypical Italians and punkers right out of A Clockwork Orange. Most of the cast is in a coma, and the plot is stupid, stupid, stupid. The reason to watch this is for Chan's gravity-defying stunts as he is chased through the streets of Melbourne by Aussie thugs trying to relocate missing cocaine. Watch for a stunt involving a horse-drawn carriage, as it almost compensates for the lackluster story line.

4 out of 5 stars Just Buy 2 Out Of 3 Separately!.......2003-07-17

Mr. Nice Guy and First Strike are both excellent movies to watch and get at [local store] if you can't get it here!

This action pack could contain Shanghai Noon instead of Rumble in the Bronx. Opt-out for Rumble in the Bronx since it is Hong Kong style...meaning you will have to deal with foreign language spoken while someone in English interprets. Kind of weird if you ask me. It is like Drunken Master where you have to listen carefully.

4 out of 5 stars Action packed edge of your seat thillers.......2000-06-21

I am extremely happy to see that there is such a wide variety ofJackie Chan Action films. These three films were all excellent intheir own Jackie Chan way. All of them are a must see! The pack, containing three videos, is a very affordable and at [the price] how can any true Jackie Chan Fan say no. While these films are great they are definitely not suitable for children under the age of sixteen. All of them have similar storylines, boy gets in trouble, boy meets a girl, boy saves the day and gets the girl. However they are still all movies that you can sit down and watch over and over again.

Jackie Chan is amazing and some of the stunts that he does are outstanding in these movies which makes up for the lack of variables in the storylines. The greatest thing about these three Jackie Chan movies is that he doesn't try to be a Bruce Lee or Jet Li he isn't this invincible superhero who comes out of every volatile situation with out a scratch or a sweat.

Thanks to Amazon.com for this outstanding and very affordable pack. Two thumbs up!

5 out of 5 stars Two Guys to Cheer For!.......2003-12-28

In a third cinematic clash, after "Twinkle, Twinkle Lucky Stars"
and "City Hunter," Jackie Chan and Richard Norton turn up the heat for "Mr. Nice Guy," an unusually edgy Chan vehicle that does
not abandon the star's signature for comedic movie action. As in
their previous efforts, Norton plays the nemesis, a Melbourne drug lord (Giancarlo) who must retrieve an incriminating videotape from a naive television chef (Jackie). Norton's performance is a tour-de-force triumph, making the eccentric
Giancarlo one of the most memorable villains from all of Chan's
films. Chan's elusive scramble through the streets of Melbourne,
colorfully utilized by director Samo Hung, reminds the audience
of his ability to mesmerize with stunts staged in familiar locations: a construction site, a mall interior, an abandoned
building. Who needs computerized effects when you've got Jackie
Chan and a ready prop? Giancarlo's lurking henchmen provide the
movie's Keystone Cops, and Hung contributes a funny stunt off the
unlikely seat of a bicycle. "Nice Guy" is flawless fun, prompting
a wish for another Chan-Norton pairing that will put them on the
same side of the law. These two guys are action stars to applaud
      for consistently excellent film entertainment!

LOL
