Jack Slater is an action-film hero played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. An old projectionist (Robert Prosky) hands a magic movie ticket to Jack's biggest preteen fan (Austin O'Brien), and the kid steps right inside the latest Jack Slater film, becoming the actor star's sidekick in gunfights and car chases. But when Jack's nemesis (Charles Dance) gets his hands on the ticket, the fight busts out into the real world and Jack (à la Toy Story's Buzz Lightyear) refuses to believe he's a fictional character. Director John McTiernan churns some nifty scenes out of this setup, although the fiction-to-reality shuffle is not as deft as in, say, Woody Allen's The Purple Rose of Cairo, and the plot needs the kind of logic and discipline found in that classic when-worlds-collide film Back to the Future. Still, Schwarzenegger has moments of wit and smashing action, and we get a faux-movie trailer advertising an intriguing new shoot-'em-up: "Something's rotten in the State of Denmark--and Hamlet is taking out the trash!"
Customer Reviews:
Rare Edition of film, but can be found for cheap if u know where to look..........2007-07-06
First off, this edition of the film is a double sided dvd which contains the widescreen and full screen versions of the film. This edition is hard to find because it looks EXACTLY like the release which only contains the full screen version. Rather than pay $35 for the widescreen version of the film from a seller on amazon, you should go to hastings and sift through there copies looking on the back at the small box below arnold. It should say "widescreen or standard formats". I got my copy for $6.99. Nothing against amazon, but the few individual sellers trying to charge a fortune for this film are just trying to make a cheap buck. Amazon itself is the best place on the web or off to buy dvds.
As far as the film itself, the first half is absolutely awesome arnold-tastic action, but the second half get kinda dull. The first makes it worth adding to any action collection. Ice cream cone to the skull.
An emblematic cult movie! .......2007-07-05
"The last action hero" is a puzzled fable, a movie within a movie, a smart recreation of our modern vision about the seminal concept of the hero, rescuing the essence of its meaning, spiced of clever humor that truly demands from the viewer a very detailed knowledge of certain classics of the genre.
Jean Epstein as well as many other theorists of the cinema, have established over and over the fact to watch a movie into a dark hall surrounded of other people that barely or nothing know about, it `s very close to what we might a sensorial experience, a cathartic evasion (and sometimes a spiritual meeting, just in very reduced exceptions like Tarkovsky, Bresson, for instance). But Mac Thiernan knew to employ smartly all the available devices to convey us through this labyrinths of missed images, memories and livings immersed in those frames that run 24 times by second, because the movie occupies a place into our contemporary memory, according the level you regard it.
Pitifully, the message was not entirely understood, due perhaps the presence of Scharwzeeger meant for many people full action without another second reading.
The Dumbing Down of America.......2007-02-23
The following story will tell you why this movie bombed at the box office.
While visiting family in Miami one of my cousins went to see the movie. When he got home he was telling me how much the movie stunk. As he was talking it became obvious to me that he had taken the movie seriously. So I yelled at him "It's a parody!! He's making fun of action movies in general and himself in particular!!" I could see the lightbulb go on over his head and he went right out and saw it again.
Needless to say, he loved the film. As do I. It's not often that a big star has the guts to make fun of himself just to make his fans laugh. So if you have this film languishing in your collection somewhere you need to see it with this in mind. It's parody. Satire. Comedy! Watch it and have fun.
GREATEST MOVIE EVER!!.......2007-02-22
Arnold is the world's greatest actor. If there was justice in the world, he would be given the Oscar every year. I actually moved to California, so that Arnold would be my governor. Last year, I voted for him twice. This is his finest film. Note the superb cinematography and witty repartee. I heart Ahnold.
Lousy Movie.......2006-06-28
I love a lot of Arnold's movies but this movie is just a one time viewing.
My overall opinion a horrible movie, would have been great if it was actually funny.

Based on Tom Wolfe's magazine article, this film follows the unlikely career of race car driver Junior Johnson. Jeff Bridges stars.
Customer Reviews:
the last american hero.......2007-01-19
Being a nascar fan I had pleasure following the career and familiar ways of the "hero"...
Racing Driver Drama.......2006-11-15
I have not read the Tom Wolfe essay this story is apparently based on, but as a film it works quite well. Jeff Bridges, looking like a rougher member of the Beach Boys, is effective as a young guy from a small-town moonshining family, who decided he's going to take the world by storm as a champion driver. Great supporting cast includes Ned Beatty, Gary Busey, and Valerie Perrine. Kind of a cross between Monte Hellman's Two-Lane Blacktop and Rebel Without a Cause. And understand that you don't have to be a NASCAR enthusiast to enjoy the film - it's just a great drama.
Great Movie!!!.......2006-03-23
This movie tells the story of a mountain boy who goes from runnin' moonshine to entering local demolition derbies and dirt races to earn money for his family. Eventually, our Hero, Elroy Jackson Jr. makes it to the heights of the sport, although that is not covered in the movie.
Jeff Bridges is one of my favorite actors of all time, and I was elated when this movie finally became available on DVD. Great story, great cast, great theme song ("I Got A Name" performed by Jim Croce).
Last American Hero.......2003-06-29
This is 5 stars if you are a true race fan. Otherwise, it's still an interesting story. This film is loosely based on Tom Wolfe's essay about the younger days of Junior Johnson, although for some reason they changed his name for the film. (Notice, though, that Junior himself was a paid racing consultant on the film.) The race footage is very well done and there is some good footage from the old Southern 500. Bridges and Busey are a lot of fun to watch together as well.If you like stock car racing and wonder what the old days were like when the sport was still developing, you'll love this film. Only pity is it's not on DVD.
(Also another great film (although a little cheesy) about the old days is 43 The Petty Story starring Darren McGavin as Lee Petty and Richard Petty as himself AND Dale Inman AND Buddy Baker!!! It is a classic look at the old values that are still carried forward in the sport to some degree. It also has some insight to what NASCAR was and what it has become..Some really good vinatge racing footage is also included.) Also a pity it's not on DVD...We need to prolong the life of these smaller "special interest" films. Anyway have fun, great summmer stuff.
the last american hero.......2000-06-26
This is a classic movie about moonshing And small town life. It was the best when he went on to racing,It was great . I bought 3 copies and it's worth it. If you like muscle cars you love his black mustang. Great T.I.G.R

Short and Sweet- Not your typical Dragon Ball GT.......2007-08-08
Looking at the cover for this movie, I bought it thinking that I would get the proper dosage of over-the-top action that defines DBGT.
Boy, was I glad to be wrong.
The cover is simply packed with lies, as to this is not an action-packed Chop Socky-fest. Instead, it focuses on Goku Jr., a decendant of (who else?) Goku, who's trying to find the 4-star Dragon Ball to save Pan, who is his grandmother. Along the way he encounters a hot bluish-green chick who wants to eat him, and teams up with a bully who's tormented him for ages.
No long, drawn-out fights here, just good storytelling and character development.
While there are plot inconsistincies (where in the heck are Goku Jr.'s parents?), this is a nice way to end Dragon Ball. Entirely worth the cash.
An excellent TV special.......2007-08-08
Dragon Ball GT: A Hero's Legacy
FUNimation's box art is wrong. This is a TV special, not a movie.
INTRODUCTION:
The Dragon Ball franchise is one of the finest anime series in the world. The series, created as a manga by Akira Toriyama in 1984, has always been popular, and it isn't hard to see why - interesting characters, cool locales, and intriguing plotlines. However, Dragon Ball GT, the third and final chapter in the trilogy, was NOT created by Toriyama and generated a very mixed reaction from fans. To accompany the series, a single TV special, set one hundred years later, aired during the initial run.
OVERVIEW (RELEASES):
This is the GT TV special, which aired on Japanese TV in 1996 during the initial run of GT.
OVERVIEW (MOVIE):
This special is set 100 years after GT takes place, but PRIOR to the very end of GT with the "100 years later tournament" scene. Goku Jr., Pan's grandson, is a far cry from his several-generations-ago grandfather who has long since passed on. He's a wimp and a weakling who is bullied constantly, But when his grandmother falls ill, he sets out on a journey to Mount Paozu, to retrieve his ancestor's magical Dragon Ball, in an effort to cure his grandmother.
REVIEW (MOVIE):
Not bad. I actually preferred this special to most of the actual GT anime. From start to finish, with its emphasis on adventure, this felt more like an episode of the original Dragon Ball than anything GT related. It's got its share of touching moments and action scenes. But if you're looking for DBZ/late GT-style action-filled combat, this movie may not be for you. Just the same I enjoyed it, and feel it's a nice addition to the catalogue. Thumbs up.
OVERALL:
Excellent special. Well worth adding to your collection if you're a fan.
EDITION NOTES:
FUNimaton released an uncut DVD with Jap and Eng versions.
flashback dragonball manga.......2006-09-25
THIS IS THE BEST BRAGONBALL MOVIE EVER. It's more of a flashback to the orignal dragonball manga as far as the style and is very accurate.
arracute- ANY ONE REMBER GOHAN IN THE VERY BEGINING OF DRAGONBALLZ ok he was an emitonal reck and a wimp sAME GOES 4 tRUNKS IN THE "HISTORY OF TRUNKS" MOVIE SO SAYAN+HUMAN= WIMP UNTILLED PROPERLY TRAINED so goku jr being a wimp makes sence

An interesting experience.......2006-08-06
I've been a Dragonball fan for a while now, and this has to be the most interesting dragonball movie yet. This brings back the adventurous quality that was found in the "Lost Episodes" of Dragon Ball GT, or the Dragonball series as a whole. Its an enjoyable experience, but the main character, Son Goku (Not the one we all know, his Great great Grandson) is a bit of a wimp, which is disappointing to see.
Overall, if you want a good anime experience, or you just like Dragonball, this movie is worth watching again and again
Make a sequal.......2006-05-30
First of all this isn't a bad movie but it just could have been a lot better. The movie is about Goku J.R the granson of Pan who is a adult now. Pan wants Goku J.R to get stronger and stand up to pepole. However Goku J.R isn't really strong and gets picked on by bullys and gets his stuff stolen. After Pan hears about it she is outraged and tells him to beacome stronger but then she has heart failer and has great chances of diying. Goku J.R decides to save his grandma and goes to find the Dragon Balls to save pan. On the road Goku J.R meets the bully who picked on him after being tricked by a truck driver they seet of to help eachother a meet a lady who lets them stay at her house. But, this lady was really a monster who attacks them but Goku J.R and his friend escape. After being scared to help his friend at a bridge his friend falls after the bridge beacomes lose and dies. Goku J.R is sad but it will take me to long to tell the rest of the movie but the movie dosn't have enough action and a little more bit of drama. This is great if you like drama anmie but if you like action you might want to check out the Dragon Ball GT series. A ok movie but they should make a sequal.

Good movie, but get the right version...........2003-01-09
For those buying this Deadly China Hero dvd, you are getting a [junky] version of the original film Last Hero In China. The distributors for Deadly.. are known for bootleggin movies and cutting scenes out, so look for the right one if you intend to check this film out. This film is the Jet's second to the last installment to the Once Upon A Time In China (OUATIC) series. It's nothing spectacular in my opinion, but it's not a bad film either. Tsui Hark, who did the original OUATIC series is not a part of this film; instead, the dirty Wong Jing directed this film, which kind of hurt it a bit. Yuen Woo Ping still provided the choreography, but I've seen better. Wong's aunt, or love interest, (Rosamund Kwan) is also out of this picture. Jet plays Wong Fei Hung once again, and he moves his school temporarily to a new location. The school ends up next to a brothel, Fei Hung soons discovers corruption and kidnappings of women taking place around the town. Officials want to get rid of him, and of course Wong wants to save everybody as usual. This is probably all you'd need to know about the story because it really is not that interesting. Right from the start, I could not take this film seriously at all. It was trying pretty hard to be funny, and sometimes it worked, other times it failed miserably. It felt like watching a parody of OUATIC. The MA were good, but not great; there was simply too much wirework and fake elements involved. It's one thing if the movements look real, but wirework was pretty bad in this film. There's a scene where a bad official slaps his hands on tiles, and this brings them up flying at Wong; all of a sudden the official decides to literally swim or glide across the ground afterwards...couldn't help thinkin what was the point of it was, but anyways. The bad official (Alan Chui?) also has one of the most annoying laughs you'll ever hear. There were bits and pieces of battles that stood out, but not one ENTIRE fight scene impressed me. The Shaolin Master Killer Gordon Liu(Lau Kar Fai) was also in the film as a bad guy, but director Wong Jing clearly wasted Liu's talents by not using them. In addition, the outcome of his final battle is pretty pathetic. There is a fight between Liu and Jet that starts off decent until the flying elements came into play...sigh...like I said, bits and pieces. Cheung Man is also in the film, but her MA is strictly wire based and made her look like a ballerina...nothing impressive. As everyone already mentioned here, the last battle involves Jet in a chicken suit fighting a group of baddies dressed as a centipede. It's kind of silly, but the battle that follows between Fei Hung and the bad official is nice. There is still wirework done here, but this battle probably had the most REAL and serious MA. Sadly, there were many shots that made me realize that Jet was doubled for many of the sequences...sigh...you'll also see Jet try to use the drunken style, though unconvincing, and some great moves came afterwards and probably is the base of my rating. Some of the moves here are pretty brutal, and they stayed in my mind even after the film. Overall, I would call this an average movie. OUATIC 1-3 totally outshines this film because there was more meaning to it and I felt more for the characters, plus the MA was far better. I can't really recommend you to buy this film, but since it is pretty cheap, why not. Besides, it's part of Jet's Wong Fei Hung history. It's definitely worth checking out, so you can make your own opinions. To me, this film is trying too hard to be funny, and sadly I found myself laughing at scenes in the film that probably weren't intended to be funny. Better Jet films are his original OUATIC 1-3, Fist of Legend (his best), Swordsman II, Tai Chi Master, Kung Fu Colt Master, Shaolin Temple, and more...hope this was helpful, check out my other MA reviews, thanks for reading.
jet li as wong fei hong again.......2002-05-04
though not as good as the once upon a time series, it's still a pretty good movie, because it throughs humor into the mix. if you've seen deadly china hero it basically the same but last hero in china has 1 or 2 extra scenes, but it's something you really don't notice because it doesn't effect the plot of the movie. They even have one of my all time favorites Gordon Lui(he's a bad guy this time though) i recommend this version on dvd for two reasons first it's Jet Li, so you know you're getting great fight scenes, (even though his drunken boxing wasn't as good as when Jackie Chan played Wong Fei Hong in Drunken Master 2) and secondly because the Deadly China Hero dvd is the worst dvd i have in my collection, it's worst than anything i have on my vhs collection as well. So if you have seen any of the once upon a time in china series i suggest you give this one a chance to see Jet Li play a light hearted version of the man that made him internationaly known
Interesting Combination.......2002-01-10
Before reading this review you should know that this is the same movie as "Deadly China Hero."
This film is, as the title of this article proclaims, an interesting combination. Combination of what, you ask? It is a combination of the Historic Chinese Martial Arts extravaganza and a Tom Green movie. What makes the film interesting is that the combination is not as bad as it sounds. Jet Li once agains plays the role of Wong Fei Hung, as he did in the Once Upon A Time in China historical epics, but this Fei Hung is a very different character from the more serious Fei Hung (particularly in the first OUATIC) we are used to.
In essence this film takes the fairly standard school versus school and style versus style conflict and extends it to a Dragon dancing competition (mirrors of OUATIC here, but wait) with Jet Li's masterful Dragon dancing interrupted by a villain in a Millipede suit. Jet Li loses the initial competition, due to various circumstances which include the villain's nepharious influence. Jet Li recovers and battles the Millipede in a Chicken Suit in the final battle. Chicken suit? Yes, a chicken suit. I told you there was a touch of Tom Green in this movie, or is it Adam Sandler? Doesn't matter.
Typical of the Jet Li/Wong Jing pairing films this is a less than serious affair. If you go in expecting wonderful wuxia wire-fu and a few laughs in a no budget free for all you will have a great time. Jet Li is an amazing martial artist and somehow this film works. But if you've come looking for Fist of Legend you are in for a serious shock in this film.
Centipedes and Chickens.......2001-07-06
Whats up folks? I picked this movie up about 2 months ago. I didnt know what i was getting into, but i imagined that it couldnt be too bad, I mean, the main character is Wong Fei Hung. Right off of the bat, i want to say that Amazon has the best price ive seen for this movie. So if you're gonna get it, and i recommend that you do, i urge you to get it from here.
Whats the premise? The cops arrest 3 leaders of the rebel Boxer Association, you may remember the Boxer Association from your history classes. Well, Fei Hung happens to be there, and hands them over to the police. Fei Hung is running out of money, cant afford his studio, so his star pupils Ah-so and Ah-fu make a deal with some landlord for leasing a building for dirt cheap, they later find out that the owner of the building is a pimp, and his whore house is right next door, overlooking the grounds of the studio. I want tell you anything else, and theres a lot more to see, but ill tell you that its funny. The martial arts is pretty good, and if you guys are MA fans, then I should tell you that Gordon "Master Killer" Liu is in this also. Yeah, thats right, the log on water riding master himself.
So if you guys are looking for a good laugh (at the comedy, not poor attempt at a movie) then this movie is definitely it. It has its serious moments too, after all its about Fei Hung. It has good MA action, from what I remember, i mean i watched it twice. The characters are cool, but the cast that plays them is excellent. The villain, is awesome. He's evil as hell! Certifiably insane!
I dont know what else to say about it, its a really good movie, i thought it was better than Once Upon A Time in China 2, (not OUATIC I, i said II). The whores were funny. I only wish they showed more of Leung Man, she was bad boy. She had this one scene, man, shes good (by the way, shes not one of the whores)
4 stars, go get it. If youre into Jet Li, or are wandering if you really like his style of acting and MA, then get this movie, he'll impress you, he is afterall a Kung Fu master.
Last and The Least.......2001-06-19
I bought this film on a whim, since the store I went to didn't have 'exactly' what I wanted (OUATIC 2 fer sure)SO I figured I'd watch the last in the series since OUATIC and America was a HUGE disappointment for me. I have yet to make up my mind on Jet Li films. And this put me in the negative state (again) The story was slow and unmoving, the characters were not interesting, the fighting was sparse (why else get a kung fu film?)and the last fight with Jet in a chicken suit (JET LI IN A CHICKEN SUIT!!!!!)was the last straw. I'm sorry, but if Fist Of Legend was his best, then this must have been by far his worst. "I wouldn't buy this DVD with YOUR money!!!"

Unfortunately, I was disappointed........2007-01-10
I am writing this review without having even seen the movie itself, for the shock I got as I received this product was enough. I got the dvd, and the first thing that hit me was that the cover did not fit on the box well.. why? because it was printed on a home printer, and when I opened it, the product itself apparently was burned at home as well. Basically, I paid for an original movie and got a bootleg.
What?????.......2006-02-28
This was such an awesome movie.
Remove everything you ever knew about the Once upon a time in china series from your head, except for Jet Li playing the serious Wong fei-hung. Then make this movie one of the craziest and funniest movies ever and stick Wong fei-hung in the middle of it. What you have is a very enjoyable movie. And as much as I did like it, the music was the best part for me. For those of you that know the OUATIC series, you know Tsui Hark was the first ones to put lyrics in a movie to the Wong fei-hung theme song. Well then Jing Wong was the second. Great Soundtrack.
All you people trying to stick through it all the way, please wait until the end fight.
a big present in the final fight.......2004-06-24
Not widely regarded as an extension of the "Once Upon A Time In China" series, "Last Hero In China" tends to go unmentioned as far as guilty-pleasure entertainments go. I believe that the film's quality (though the Wong Jing humor is debatable) is right on par with the series, as once again Jet Li braids his hair to assume the identity of Wong Fei-Hung and rip some naughty miscreants a new one. Yes, Jet Li is in the role NOT Jackie Chan, as Amazon's blurb mistakenly implies. Though both actors have personified the role, it is in this film's final fight that I finally got to see Jet Li's bout at Drunken Boxing for my first time ever (thus the review's title). If he does it in older movies, I haven't seen it yet. But he demonstrates the stance with all the effortless acrobatic ability his legions of fans have grown accustomed to. Plus, Yuen "you only wish you could choreograph action like me" Woo-Ping offers us a shot at Fei-Hung delving into Chicken Style against a ten-man centipede, plus numerous other wire-fu goodies that'll put a stoned grin onto any viewers face.
No real special features on the disc to even mention save the inherent but ever-necessary widescreen, but then again I own the HK version. The only drawback...? Where's Auntie 13 (Rosamund Kwan)? She writes Fei-Hung a letter in the movie, but that's all we get. Sigh... But enjoy -- this is as ridiculously fun a movie as you could want from Sir Jet.
Jackie Chan is NOT in this movie!.......2004-03-01
I'm not sure what movie Amazon thinks this is, but it's actually a Wong Fei Hong pic starring Jet Li. And it's not his best, either. Yuen Woo-Ping did do the action choreography so it does have great fight scenes. Story was lacking though. Please, Amazon, try to get the titles and stars on these Chinese movies correct for once.
Awsome!!.......2001-05-03
This movie is very cool. I rented it and now I went out and bought it. It's an amazing movie, the story is interesting, but the fighting scenes are really incredible. During the movie, a fight breaks out nearly every 2 minutes and what really got me was the unique fighting style. The quality of the film is mediocre, but what can you expect from a film made in 1978. I think 16 dollars is a little pricey for a movie that is this old and with nearly no quality improvements on DVD. But overall I highly recommend this movie to any Kung Fu enthusiast; it's one of the best Jackie Chan classics.

Be careful if you buy this boxed set!.......2005-02-05
I ordered this box set and both movies are advertised as being widescreen. THIS IS NOT NECESSARILY THE CASE! I received my copy and the 6th Day was widescreen. The Last Action hero was in Pan and Scan. This is crap. Buyer beware. The back of the keepsake box even showed both movies as being widescreen.
I really enjoyed it, but then I'm weird.......2005-01-06
I thought this movie was a lot of fun. I enjoy action flicks, though I started to become a bit disenchanted with them because they were so predictable and unrealistic. I think that's what was so good about this movie. It made fun of action flicks while being an action flick. Sadly, I've found that most of my friends didn't care for the movie as much as I did. But I thought it was fun.
