Description
Visually spectacular, intensely action-packed and powerfully prophetic since its debut, Blade Runner returns in Ridley Scott's definitive Final Cut, including extended scenes and never-before-seen special effects. In a signature role as 21st-century detective Rick Deckard, Harrison Ford brings his masculine-yet-vulnerable presence to this stylish noir thriller. In a future of high-tech possibility soured by urban and social decay, Deckard hunts for fugitive, muderous replicants - and is drawn to a mystery woman whose secrets may undermine his soul.

Ridley Scott is one of the greats........2007-09-08
This film and Ridley's ALIEN inspired countless other Sci-Fi films with their visionary look at a dark future for earth. These films inspired me to become a special-effects technician and I continue to to be inspired by them to this day. A former boss of mine at Warner Bros. Studios helped to make the cryogenic chamber that the "real" Tyrell was found to be frozen in. I heard that this scene was forever lost, but I hope that this version has that recovered footage. Most people don't know that this scene existed.
vote for the narrated version.......2007-08-22
Obviously one cannot comment on what has not been seen but my vote goes to the narrated version. I did see this version when it was originally released this was the version that made this film important. Say what you will about harrison ford and others opinions on the film these are opinions and at a certain point even scotts opinions are irrelevant. Film has entered a new era where directors have become much like painters who refuse to let a painting leave the studio until all is perfect or all the strokes have been squashed under the pressure of what? THE directors cut.
I fell for this movie bigtime like falling in love and those of us who have fallen never think back fondly and say well it could have been better with just a little more unicorn. love is a Unicorn
The best one yet!.......2007-08-22
It's maybe the best Sci fi film of all time, maybe number two behind Ridley's other masterpiece, Alien. This film depicts a dystopian Los Angeles in November 2019 in which genetically manufactured beings, physically identical to adult humans, called replicants are used for dangerous and degrading work in Earth's "off-world colonies." Replicants became illegal on Earth after a bloody mutiny. Specialist police units -- blade runners -- hunt down and "retire" (i.e. kill) escaped replicants on Earth. The plot primarily focuses on a particularly brutal and cunning group of replicants hiding in Los Angeles and a semi-retired blade runner, named Rick Deckard, who reluctantly agrees to take on one more assignment. This movie I believe helped to inpire many clone and cyborg type movies like A.I. The story is so ahead of it's time and one of those rare movies that is as good today as it was in 1982 and is almost more relivant. Well fleshed out characters, Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer) is a commando, Leon a soldier and manual laborer, Zhora (Joanna Cassidy) a sex worker retrained as an assassin, and Pris (Daryl Hannah) a "basic pleasure model." Bryant also explains that the Nexus-6 model has a four-year lifespan as a failsafe against their developing unstable emotions. Deckard is teamed up with Gaff (Edward James Olmos) and sent to the Tyrell Corporation to ensure that the Voight-Kampff test works on Nexus-6 models. While there, Deckard discovers that Tyrell's (Joe Turkel) young secretary Rachael (Sean Young) is an experimental replicant (who believes she is a human) with implanted memories from Tyrell's niece, which provide a cushion for her emotions. I'm a character guy and believe it is imposable to have a great film without many stong multi fasited characters with more that a few layers. Lastly like any great film it is very thought provoking and leaves a lot to the viewer imagination. Many critics and movie goes hated this film for that reason but for the rest of us the compelling question of weather or not Deckard is a replicant is just that thing that makes the movie great. Oh, just so you know...Of course he is, you silly goose!
This is one of those movies that holds up to almost anything made today. the directing, acting, effects, and characters are all spot on. The movie made Rutger Hauer a career as someone to be afraid of.
This edition could make most fanboys soil themselves, I did...twice. It's a great set. The best "special edition" yet.
Where's info on Vangelis' magical score? .......2007-08-15
As HOT as I am to get my hands on the 5 disc package. I'm getting a little nervous about the gift that Vangelis gave to this incredible piece of art. Nothing given about a possible separate audio track for his music that he truly gave his heart and his soul to. Nothing listed in the documentaries/ alternate features of BR. Was he interviewed for it? Or was he ever interviewed about his luminous score over the 25 years since the films release? With the multitude of tracks available on dvd I'll be PISSED if the five different versions do not contain a single isolated Vangelis track. His score is equally as legend as the film itself.
I'm a fan of both BR and Vangelis. The fans of the Greek Gods' compositions over the years since BR have had an undying will of force to track down anything remotely related to his blissful score layered in rich atmosphere. Like those mysterious alternate soundtracks that used to be found on Ebay until a few years ago. The Gongo release is the second best one other than the 12 year delayed original version by Vangelis, which was released by Warner music.
Warner Bros. has been proudly proclaiming that they have all the rights issues handled to release this the way the filmmakers wanted it. Since they have the film and the score why haven't they included his participation in the upcoming notes? Maybe the fans STILL won't be able to enjoy All These Moments all in one place.
OMG!.......2007-08-13
On December 19th 2007, one day after absorbing all five discs of this ultimate masterpiece...I can, and will, finally rest in peace! Bravo for making it happen guys!!!!!

This is the film that cemented Schwarzenegger's spot in the action-brawn firmament, and it was well deserved. He's chilling as the futuristic cyborg who kills without fear, without love, without mercy. James Cameron's story and direction are pared to the bone and all the more creepy. But don't overlook the contributions of Linda Hamilton, who more than holds her own as the Terminator's would-be victim, Sarah Connor--thus creating, along with Sigourney Weaver in Alien, a new generation of rugged, clear-thinking female action stars. It's surprising how well this film holds up, and how its minimalist, malevolent violence is actually way scarier than that of its far more expensive, more effects-laden sequel. --Anne Hurley

A sci-fi classic.......2007-08-19
Arnold finally found his role when he played an oversized, underemotional robot without too many lines to deliver.
Excellent script and an 80's atmosphere which doesn't feel too cheesy. There's a bit of wooden acting in places but the movie works so well that I can forgive it that.

Tripping, dude in real life is pumping iron and winning Mr. Universe awards, beating out that Ferrigno guy that played the Hulk. Then he plays this cyborg dude that comes to Earth to kill off a lady whose son will lead a future revolution against the Robots. Yeah I know you are thinking dang, Bill Gates was probably in on this! No, he was not but Linda Hamilton rox yo world as Sara Connor, now you can spell that Sarah Conner or Sara Connor or whatever, I don't care. What I do care about is that this film really opens the eyes to a bad dude. This dude has red eyes and he gave a whole new attitude in 1984 when he had one ripped out, shrugged and simply donned some blades. Yeah black leather jackets as well. Oh man and then he just starts ripping up this police station!
Well c'mon, not very realistic. Sure you can have cyborgs come here and do stuff, they do all the time but usually they are just in Vegas playing the odds while on a stopover from Venus. Okay the worst part is this...a waitress from Los Angeles suddenly becomes the cops main concern? Yeah right that did not happen in the whole O.J. deal now did it? Real life this lady would not have made it and by the time the cops even had gotten hot on the trail, the Terminator would have been jumping around time warps so much his head would be spinning!
Classic Sci-Fi starring Arnie, who is now a Guv-nah but still pumps iron.
"I'LL BE BACK" GREAT SCI-FI THRILLER SPECIAL EDITION REVIEW!.......2007-08-05
This review is for the special edition. The transfer is excellent and it has some great extra material. The movie itself is a faced pace action film with a pretty cool sci-fi story. If you are not familiar with this character by now......what are you waiting for? The entire trilogy is very good and it is a toss up between the first and second movie for best installment. The second installment had a lot more money to play with and is as good as sequels get. "Arnold" does a great job playing the unstoppable "Terminator"!
The Terminator.......2007-07-15
I love this movie to death. I first saw it when I was a junior student at Soochow University in Taiwan. After 22 years, I just would like to keep a copy of this movie, so that I can watch it anytime I want. Arnold was perfectly cast as a relentless killing machine. Hamilton and Binhen's story really touches me as well. The whole story tells us that the only thing that can truely save mankind is not weapon, but love.

Theatrical release on Blu Ray OR Director's Cut on HD?!.......2007-08-23
I have to say I would choose the HD release of this movie, for starters because my boyfriend has an HD player, and it also has a lot of extra scenes which were cut from the director's cut, but for once, add a lot to the film itself. At the moment, people are still sitting on the fence or choosing one or the other format. Some people prefer Blu Ray, some people prefer HD. I can't get into this, as I haven't watched any Blu Ray movies. But we'll soon see which will be the video cassette, and which will be the DVD. Soon I hope.
There are so many editions of this movie out there, it's hard to know which one to choose. Personally, for me it would be this one (well, the HD release which isn't listed on Amazon for some reason) the director's cut, as those always win hands down with me. James Cameron does the best movies. I just wish he'd change his mind and release a special edition of True Lies. A Classic!!!
This movie is said to be one of the best sequels in Scream 2 - which is in fact itself a sequel. And indeed it is a great sequel, with the only slight annoyance being Edward Furlong and his ever changing voice! (He is clearly much younger in the desert, for instance, than in other scenes. His voice began to break and had to be pitched to one level in post-production.) With Linda Hamilton looking about as unfeminine as Madonna is now, and Arnie as the good guy this time round (Arnie said during the making of this film that he would never play another evil character again, but he later played the villain Mr. Freeze in Batman & Robin), this is truly a great sequel. Although I do prefer Nick Stahl as John Connor in T3, than Edward Furlong.
There seems to be a lot of twin stuff in this movie, as Linda's sister, Leslie came in to be a double in scenes involving two "Sarah Connors" (i.e., when the T1000 was imitating her), and in a scene where Sarah removes the Terminator's CPU, and threatens to destroy it, her sister is basically in the mirror! And also identical twins Don Stanton and Dan Stanton played the hospital security guard and the T1000.
If you were a fan of Michael Biehn in the first movie, he makes a reappearance in this, in Sarah's dream sequence, and warns her that THEIR son is in danger. She has to save him, etc. They kiss and then she wakes up. This is the only scene that Michael Biehn was in, and appeared in some promotional trailers. Cameron cut the scene because he thought that audiences who had not seen the first movie would be confused by the appearance of Kyle. But it is included on the cut shown on the DVD.
Many scenes included on the DVD for you enjoyment and not in the theatrical release include:
--> A hospital scene was cut that took place directly after the pre-med students peer into Sarah's room. The doctor reminds the orderlies to make sure she gets her medication. The cut scene was of the staff coming in to give her the pills. They smack her in the gut with their batons and force the pills down her throat, then kick her while she's on the floor doubled over in pain. (This scene had to be re-shot several times because actor Ken Gibbel wouldn't hit Linda Hamilton properly with his nightstick. The scene was very physically demanding and Hamilton was furious with Gibbel because he repeatedly botched it. She got her revenge in a later scene where she beats Gibbel with a broken off broom handle - the blows are for real.)
--> After the T-1000 kills John's foster parents, he ventures outside to get the dog to shut-up. He reaches down and snatches the collar off the dog, thus killing the dog. On the collar is stamped the dog's name "Max". The T-1000 realizes he has been duped by John (actually the T-800 imitating John's voice) by calling the dog "Wolfie."
--> After killing the dog, the T-1000 goes to John's room to try to find any clues as to where John might be. He stalks around the room waving his arms and "feeling" things on the shelves, on the walls, etc. He eventually stops in front of a poster, realizes there is something behind it, rips it down and finds a box of mementos (pictures, and the like). This must be where the T-1000 figures out about the desert compound that Sarah, John, and the T-800 head to after the hospital. James Cameron decided to cut it because it made the T-1000 look too much like it had x-ray vision.
--> At the abandoned gas station, a scene involved Sarah and John talking with the T-800 about learning. He tells them that his CPU was switched to read-only before being sent out. Cyberdyne doesn't want them to learn too much while on their own. John asks can it be switched and he says yes. You then see the T-800's face in a "mirror" talking Sarah through the procedure. A puppet was used for the foreground Sarah to work on and Linda's twin sister Leslie was in the mirror mimicking Linda's hand movements. After the CPU is removed, the T-800 shuts-down and Sarah places it on a table. She picks up a hammer and tries to smash it to render him inoperative. John stops her and says they need him. He starts to show authority for the first time and says to Sarah, "How am I supposed to be a world leader if my own mother won't listen to me?"
--> A scene in a Skynet-free future, with Sarah Connor as an older woman giving a monologue about how John became a senator.
Given Arnie's $15 million salary and his total of 700 words of dialog, that translates to $21,429 per word. "Hasta la vista, baby" cost $85,716.
This is a great sequel, and well worth getting, although if you find Edward Furlong an annoying little brat like I did, then watch T3 and have your faith in movies reaffirmed.
Mediocre HD transfer, not much extra........2007-08-15
There's little reason to grab this over the standard DVD version. The transfer is fuzzy and details are not particularly sharp; granted, it's from 1992 and wasn't exactly filmed in HD to begin with, but I was expecting more out of it than this. The extras treatment is very bare bones, repeating the same commentaries from before and adding little in the way of additional materials. Fortunately it's cheap, but don't expect much.
Go for the Ultimate or Extreme edition. .......2007-06-22
I love this movie, it is one of my all time favorites. I recently upgraded to a Blu-Ray player and this is one of the first movies I bought. I am hugely disappointed in the quality and features of this BD. It honestly sux. I went from the Ultimate edition to this BD edition and took a huge step back. The quality is about the same as the Ultimate or Extreme editions and there are no bonus features. This was one of the big movies I bought a Blu-ray player for, so you can understand my disappointment. I will probably sell it and re-buy the Ultimate or Extreme edition. I recommend waiting to see if they come out with an Ultimate or Extreme edition on Blu-ray before buying this one.
im happy with this version.......2007-04-21
it may not be the extended version with cut scenes. I will say i watched this movie on digital cable and compared it to the blu0ray version and trust me there is a big difference more colors no smearing of facial features like on the cable version and the sound is incredible. If your hdtv sucks then blu-ray version may suffer if the difference is not noticable its your tv
and not the blu-ray disc. This is a must have for terminator fans!
Upscaled DVD at Best!!!.......2007-04-18
High hopes were set in place for this blu-ray release, and I have to admit I am sadly dissapointed.
The transfer is only a 'fraction' above watching a SD DVD version upscaled, which is a real shame.
Buy at your own risk, or wait for a much better release, hopefully Director's Cut, remastered and all.
2.5/5 for effort.

After he pushed the envelope of computer-generated special effects in The Abyss, director James Cameron turned this hotly anticipated sequel to Terminator into a well-written, action-packed showcase for advanced special effects and for one of the most invincible villains ever imagined. Terminator 2: Judgment Day is a legitimate sequel: there's more story to tell about a hulking, leather-clad android (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who arrives from the future to protect a rebellious teenager and future leader (Edward Furlong) from being killed by the tenacious T-1000 robot (Robert Patrick), whose liquid-metal construction makes him seemingly unstoppable. The fate of the future lies in the balance, with Linda Hamilton (who would later marry her director) reprising her role as the rugged woman whose son will change the course of history. --Jeff Shannon
Description
He said he'd be back. This time experience T2 like never before! Go EXTREME with the best picture and sound ever! ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER returns as the Terminator in this explosive action-adventure spectacle. Now he's one of the good guys, sent back in time to protect John Connor, the boy destined to lead the freedom fighters of the future. LINDA HAMILTON reprises her role as Sarah Connor, John's mother, a quintessential survivor who has been institutionalized for her warning of the nuclear holocaust she knows is inevitable. Together, the threesome must find a way to stop the ultimate enemy - the T-1000, the most lethal Terminator ever created. Co-written, produced and directed by James Cameron ("The Terminator," "Aliens," "Titanic), this visual tour de force is also a touching story of survival.

Phenomenal Transfer.......2007-09-13
I own all DVD editions of T2, including the T2 Ultimate Edition. The transfer quality of the Extreme Edition is head and shoulders above the Ultimate Edition. I recommend purchasing this version even if you have the others.
Why did I buy it? I recently purchased an HD DVD player and it exposed the lower quality transfer of the Ultimate Edition. I immediately noticed a difference when I played this version (Extreme) on my HD DVD player. With the exception of the UK or French T2 HD DVDs, this is the best version of T2 available.

This ranks among The Godfather, Part II (Two-Disc Widescreen Edition), Spider-Man 2 (Widescreen Special Edition) and Aliens (Two-Disc Collector's Edition) as one of the few sequels to surpass the original. Coincidentally, this is created by the same man who gave us Aliens.
I'm sure all of you know the story, Arnold Schwarzenegger is sent back in time by John Connot to protect his young self from the T-1000. This movie is action packed and amazing when it comes to technology. The T-1000 looks even better than most of the movie being produced today.
But the real treat here is the DVD. Two Discs jam packed full of features. It includes numerous features, three, count them, three versions of the movie, theatrical, special, and extended editons of the movie. It also includes a very busy audio commentary, the script anf 700+ storyboards. There's so much on this disc it'd take me hours just to list all of it.
This is a Must Have. Definite Must Have. The movie is wonderful and the DVD complements it perfectly.
Best Sci Fi Movie Ever.......2007-08-23
Although it came out in the 1980's i haven't seen any film that is more sci fi than terminator 2 . the dvd it self was of the best i' ve ever seen. The special effects were outstanding and they even got an academy award for it, aside from the special effects it also had a good storyline. It is about John Connor who is going to be very important in the future against skynet, has to be saved because skynet has sent a time travellling cyborg to kill him from existing in the future.
Classic, with some nice extras on the DVD.......2007-08-01
If you are seeking the turning point in Computer Generated Films, Terminator 2 marks the first true success of it, with the morphing Terminator cop, originally influenced by films like Willow and The Abyss, both with marked CGI effects.
The film is a must for Terminator fans, with much action and gunfire, with Arnold's trademark style. Some great explosions, though the film has slow times for story telling.
The extras are interesting, but the HD version is only good on a PC with a specific setup with Windows, being released before true HD players. Commentary and extras are good in general though. Recommend fans buy this version.
They really don't make 'em like this anymore.......2007-07-24
It is interesting to watch this fifteen years later and see how it holds up. This was the movie that ushered in the era of digital sound, it also showed morphing, environment mapping and these things that were already present in much shorter form in The Abyss (Special Edition) during the water creature sequence.
From the plot standpoint, this is the only Terminator movie that could have worked without Arnie. And maybe this is not a coincidence, it probably was conceived that way. If Arnold would have demanded too big a paycheck, this probably would have become "Sara and John get chased by the T-1000". And it probably would have been almost as good. That being said, it is great to have Arnie back, because when the first part had him act like a (pretty scary) machine, here he is in a way more human than in most of his other roles where he plays actual humans.
One could almost be a bit nostalgic for the time when Hollywood could still produce carefully thought-out blockbusters that rocked and even had a bit of wit. Watching "Die Hard 4" a few weeks ago was a good reminder how deeply the American film industry has fallen since then.
As far as the extra features on the DVD are concerned, I am grateful that James Cameron did not include that horrible sugar-coated coda in the theater version. It would have single-handedly wiped out the whole movie, it is so cringe-inducing. (Yes, even more cringe-inducing than Arnold's acting and the occasional bad SFX.)
In "Terminator 2", Cameron gives us great action scenes, punctuated by slower, more dialogue-heavy scenes. The film is long because it takes its time to draw its characters, and it does not rush to its conclusion but lets us savor it.
A few things look a bit ridiculous of course, like the obvious puppet of Arnie when he walks towards the cops at Cyberdyne while being shot at and that determinedly downtempo synthesizer music in some of the action scenes sometimes is a little embarrassing. Most cell phones can probably synthesize better sound today. But that does not detract from the accomplishment of the movie, which is built on character, situation, and a solid understanding of pacing.

Even-numbered Star Trek movies tend to be better, and First Contact (#8 in the popular movie series) is no exception--an intelligently handled plot involving the galaxy-conquering Borg and their attempt to invade Earth's past, alter history, and "assimilate" the entire human race. Time travel, a dazzling new Enterprise, and capable direction by Next Generation alumnus Jonathan Frakes makes this one rank with the best of the bunch. Capt. Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his able crew travel back in time to Earth in the year 2063, where they hope to ensure that the inventor of warp drive (played by James Cromwell) will successfully carry out his pioneering warp-drive flight and precipitate Earth's "first contact" with an alien race. A seductive Borg queen (Alice Krige) holds Lt. Data (Brent Spiner) hostage in an effort to sabotage the Federation's preservation of history, and the captive android finds himself tempted by the queen's tantalizing sins of the flesh! Sharply conceived to fit snugly into the burgeoning Star Trek chronology, First Contact leads to a surprise revelation that marks an important historical chapter in the ongoing mission "to boldly go where no one has gone before." --Jeff Shannon
Description
In their second big screen adventure, the year is 2373 and the crew of the Enterprise-E has learned the Borg has returned. Because of Captain Picard's past experiences with the Borg, Starfleet has ordered the Enterprise to stay out of the fight. Realizing too much is at stake, Picard disobeys orders and takes the Enterprise to Earth. His knowledge of Borg technology leads the Federation fleet to victory, but a Borg sphere escapes and opens a temporal vortex. The Enterprise pursues and travels back to April 4, 2063; the day before the first warp flight.

First Contact... should have been the last contact!!.......2007-07-10
This was the last movie that was even halfway decent. After this one, I don't know why any more were ever made. There is so much you can do with the star trek franchise and THIS film proves it. It's the first time they have the screen all to themselves (which is to say without the old crew) and it's the only time that they do a decent job of carrying on the torch that was passed to them by the original crew.
First Contact has some of the best actors around. James Cromwell and Alfrie Woodard are positively wonderful additions to the Star Trek phenomena. There were just too many questions left. Too many loose ends left untied. And too many times when I said "so what." during the show. The crew exists as cardboard cutouts of their television personas. The most dynamic character in this movie is the Borg Queen. And that is just amazingly disappointing.
Star Trek saga.......2007-05-13
Good epilogue for the BORG neverending threat to humanity!!! Great Jean-Luc PICARD in the end against the BORG QUEEN!!!!! Not so bad the Klingon WORF!! Nice and offhands rendering of the human race left (especially the creator of the warp dirve engine, COCHRANE, played amazingly well by James CROMWELL!) after the nuclear world war!!!
Great Movie!!!!.......2007-04-05
I really love this movie but beware, I don't know what I was thinking I thought this was the directors cut which usually puts back all the deleted seens in a movie. Well this one isn't it. It will show you the seens deleted as extras but not intergrated back into the movie. Thats my only complaint but that is a minor complaint and totally my fault. The movie itself is a great, try watching it on a big sreen TV you will love it esp. the opening fight seen in the movie when the Borg attack the fleet. This is a great buy so don't hesitate if you haven't seen the movie or just want it for you collection.
Loved the movie, but unimpressed with the extras.......2007-04-03
I love the movie. I'd be hard pressed to say it's my favorite Star Trek movie since it's so hard to beat Wrath of Khan, but it's definitely my favorite Next Gen movie.
The bonuses however, are hardly worth purchasing the two disc collector's edition. I understand that the movie was filmed before the days of DVD and the producers didn't go into the project expecting to hand over hours worth of bonus material. It shows. All of the extras felt like they scrounged together whatever behind the scenes footage they could find and tried to build little documentary segments out of it. In my opinion, it failed spectacularly.
I, personally, was hoping for extras about the Borg Queen. Her makeup, her art direction. There is some of that, but not a lot. The only mention of her makeup is in passing and there are no behind the scenes footage of the makeup process at all.
All in all, I found the extras to be seriously lacking and not worth the additional price.

Details & Features of Blade Runner Final Cut are announced.......2007-07-28
Due for re-release in December, this motion picture is one of the finest science fiction films of the 20th century. Part of this is because it projects a future that could be - the earth as a place with a ruined environment populated by people that couldn't or wouldn't make the jump to one of the more habitable off-world colonies. The other part is because the film questions what it means to be human, and explores the possibly unsatisfactory answers you might get if you could, like the replicants, hunt down your maker and ask him Why am I here? Why must my life end? I'll pretty much let Warner's press release do the talking from this point forward. Basically you have your choice of three different sets - 2-disc, 4-disc, and 5-disc. The discs are described as follows:
Disc 1 - Ridley Scott's All-New "Final Cut" Version of the film - Restored and remastered with added & extended scenes, added lines, new and cleaner special effects and all new 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio. Also included is commentary by Ridley Scott and a host of others that worked behind the camera.
Disc 2 - Documentary - Dangerous Days: Making of Blade Runner - A feature-length documentary revealing all the elements that shaped this cinema landmark. Cast, crew, critics and colleagues give a behind-the-scenes, in-depth look at the film from its literary roots and inception through casting, production, visuals and special effects to its legacy.
Disc 3 - 1982 Theatrical Version - The original that contains Deckard's narration and has Deckard and Rachel's (Sean Young) "happy ending" escape scene.
1982 International Version - Also used on U.S. home video, laserdisc and cable releases up to 1992. This version is not rated, and contains some extended action scenes in contrast to the Theatrical Version.
1992 Director's Cut - Omits Deckard's voiceover narration and removes the "happy ending" finale. It adds the famous "unicorn" sequence, a vision that Deckard has which suggests that he, too, may be a replicant.
Disc 4 - BONUS Disc "Enhancement Archive" - Eight featurettes, image galleries, radio interview with the author, and screen tests for the part of Rachel.
Disc 5 - Workprint Version - This rare version of the film is considered by some to be the most radically different of all the Blade Runner cuts. It includes an altered opening scene, no Deckard narration until the final scenes, no "unicorn" sequence, no Deckard/Rachel "happy ending," altered lines between Rutger Hauer and his creator Tyrell (Joe Turkell), alternate music and much more.
Also included is commentary by Paul M. Sammon, author of Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner and a featurette - "All Our Variant Futures: From Workprint to Final Cut".
2 Disc Edition : Discs 1-2
4 Disc Edition : Discs 1-4
5 Disc Edition : Discs 1-5
The downside of this 2-disc version is that you are only getting the Final Cut version of the film and the documentary disc. You won't get the bonus disc of featurettes, the disc of past releases, and the workprint version of the film. The upside is that the 5-disc version of the film has some expensive packaging and promotional material included that seems to really raise the price of the entire package.

it was ok.......2007-09-14
I heard all this hype about Daryll Hannah in this movie.....It was ok. it'd be interesting to see a remake of this movie.
NOT CLEAR THAT THIS IS THE DIRECTOR'S CUT.......2007-09-14
It is very unclear from the description that this is the so called director's cut, which is much different than the original theatrical release. In fact, no where does it explicitly say that's what it is.
Please make this more clear! People should know what they are getting here.
Best Sci - Fi movie ever!!!!!.......2007-09-14
Produced in 1982, this film was so far ahead of it's time but filled with enough realism it separated itself from the Star Wars saga that seemed to never end.
The acting alone is about as superb as you'll ever see. The lighting and film effects were enough that it didn't detract from the story of the movie as say a James Bond film does (IMO).
The film was later even used to base a White Zombie song on "More Human Than Human.
I would have liked to have seen at least one follow up to this film but unfortunately the writer died I believe before the movie was even made? It's also one of the first films ever released on DVD also (The Original Voice over version).
Captivating and star-studded it shows many at the very beginning of their careers.
Not only is this Harrison Ford's best performance but one that will make him endure through the years in Hollywood as a genuinely great actor.
The best part of the movie is it leaves you thinking about some of the pauses and unsaid things in the movie. One that's captured the attention of Bladerunner fans for many years was "is Harrison Ford's character a Replicant"? I found out the answer to that after watching the movie the second time ;).
Sci Fi Future.......2007-07-23
How do you explain this movie? I guess you just have to watch it and try to understand it. Certainly a movie for those who love to watch Harrison Ford, and Rutger Hauer. Sean Young is quite good in it too. Set in the future, it's crazy and noisy. He has to try and find androids and kill them. But is he one himself?
Not as good as the 1982-version........2007-07-10
I miss Harrison Ford's voiceover. To delete it just leave the movie somewhat guttet. The few extra seconds of violence just seems like cheep ultra-violence. Something experimental from a bygone age. - I love Blade Runner; But I miss the 1982-version. I agree with those how thinks that the Director's Cut didn't add anything, it only removed something from the movie. And I don't feel I can pay 160 British Pounds for the 1982-versions...

Product Description
Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) prowls the steel-and-microchip jungle of 21st Century Los Angeles. He's a "blade runner" stalking genetically made criminal replicants. His assignment: kill them. Their crime: wanting to be human.
The story of Blade Runner is familiar to countless fans. But few have seen it like this. Because this is director Ridley Scott's own vision of his sci-fi classic. This new version omits Deckard's voice narration, develops in slightly greater detail the romance between Deckard and Rachael (Sean Young) and removes the "uplifting" finale. The result is a heightened emotional impact: a great film made greater. Most intriguing of all is a newly included unicorn vision that suggests that Deckard may be a humanoid. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Is Deckard a replicant? As with all things in the future, you must discover the answer yourself.
Running Time: 116 min.

Great flick!! A classic sci-fi!.......2007-08-06
Loved this movie when I first saw it in (1989?) Rutger Bauer is outstanding, as is Harrison Ford.
disturbing, boring, and depressing.......2007-07-14
I'm a Harrison Ford fan, and was dissapointed in and depressed by this film. The plot, doalog, and action were glacial. The ceaseless rain, 2019 LA smog, gloom, hyper-stimulation, and overcrowding were depressing; and I didnt care much whether Ford found the "Replicants" or not. The Hollywood formula guaranteed he would, with suitable travail. The film's special visual effects were well done for the time, and added to my depression. I wondered if the directors / produceers meant this to be a visual morality play about our current overpopulation / media overstimulation / and ecological shifts in California. If so, it didnt make much impression on our society.
I wound up skipping ahead on the downloaded CD to see what happened. I will not watch this film again or buy the CD. Ugh.
Highly recommended.......2007-06-15
If you're a Blade Runner fan, this is the one to own.
Something has been lost since I first saw this movie.......2007-06-01
I heard the "suits" at Warner made Scott add the voice over because they thought the movie's plot was too vague without it, looks like they were right. But this movie has other weaknesses. First the FX which set the mood has lost much of its power to impress, granted that can't be helped, but its still a fact. The not so subtle Japan bashing, from a time when Japan was seen as our #1 threat, seems as corny today as a Red Scare movie from the `50s. Last the endless philosophizing by beings, that don't exist, and probably never will, on the subject of "are skin jobs human". Maybe expecting a movie to have the same impact 25 years later is unrealistic, or maybe it was based on once trendy now passé ideas.
A deep look at humanity.. basic existencialism..and dystopia.......2007-05-10
43 yo No qualifications whatsoever as movie critic
This is one of my favorite films. I write recalling the first time I viewed it, somewhere in the mid 80's while in the university. The images and hidden messages is something that will captivate you and encourage always to look for some detail that may have been overlooked (trust me this is a movie to be seen)....fantastic images.. and yes.. Vangelis does the soundtrack...atmospheric setting
To me geniality of the movie lies in the fact of telling a tragic tell of a group of "humanoids"- improved biological replicas designed to have amazing physical powers- they were created to do chores and jobs such as soldiers, inter-stellar explorers and "pleasure models". Replicas have one limitation by design, they cannot live more than 4 years.
The replicas are manufactured by a supercorporation, whose CEO is a genious who still lives in earth (a place mostly inhabited by the degenerate, outcasts and unfit to pass the migration criteria for interplanetary travel).. a group of rebelious replicas want a to meet with their Creator and asks for more life, a request that this mortal god cannot concede... Harrison Ford is a retired "skin remover" - that is , a policeman in charge of removing replicas- that is forced back to his former job to help take the group of replicas or "become little people". He is a antiheroe we can quickly relate to.. the world is now a babelistic mixture of tongues, so we hear chinese, spanish and english words as a background of street pappiamento. No I am not going to spoil it for you.
At least the replicas have the chance to find their creator- they are moved by our same existencialistic motives, but they are not given the paths of faith to find the answers. What do they want? I guess the same as everyone else, they just want a fair share of life- We have created new slaves whose notion of equality is just to live longer or at least as much as we do.
I wonder what would I do if I found my maker and could openly ask for more life, and find out he has limitations on that? A god with limitations, if we could forget the damn Aristotelic and Scholastic tradition of the contradiction of such a term, and we indeed find a god- made into our same image- and listen to his benevolent amorous advice and consolation- but realice that- "Yes Virginia (I am so sorry to say)- there is no santa claus"-
I forgot where I read it, was it Nietche, was it Schopenhauer?, oh well, it goes like this " truth can only belong to those who can bear it"
In spanish sound better "La verdad es de quien la pueda soportar"
So many angles to start an interesting discussion with a group of good friends over a good argentinian Malbec wine.

The skillful blending of drawn animation and computer-generated imagery excited anime fans when this science fiction mystery was released in 1995: many enthusiasts believe Ghost suggests what the future of anime will be, at least in the short term. The film is set in the not-too-distant future, when an unnamed government uses lifelike cyborgs or "enhanced" humans for undercover work. One of the key cyborgs is The Major, Motoko Kusanagi, who resembles a cross between The Terminator and a Playboy centerfold. She finds herself caught up in a tangled web of espionage and counterespionage as she searches for the mysterious superhacker known as "The Puppet Master."
Mamoru Oshii directs with a staccato rhythm, alternating sequences of rapid-fire action (car chases, gun battles, explosions) with static dialogue scenes that allow the characters to sort out the vaguely mystical and rather convoluted plot. Kusanagi's final quote from I Corinthians suggests that electronic evolution may compliment and eventually supplant organic evolution. The minor nudity, profanity, and considerable violence would earn Ghost in the Shell at least a PG rating. --Charles Solomon
Customer Reviews:
One of my favorite anime movies.......2007-06-12
From the cutting edge animation (at the time it was made) to the more than just blow crud up story, I've always felt this to be one of the most superior pieces of science fiction ever produced.
Meditative viewing.......2007-06-05
This film suffers from the comparisons it attacts. It was heavily plagiarised by the Matrix films in terms of its visual presentation and some thematic elements, but differs to it in all other parts. Where one is a very slick adolescent action film which pretends to be philosophical, the other is an entrancing audio-visual feast which engages your subconscious in a very unexpected way. Ghost in the Shell fits better next to films like Kubrick and Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey, or Scott's Blade Runner, in which the story, although interesting, is ultimately secondary to the experience of the film itself.
From its opening credits, with its sparse pounding percussion, haunting Japanese choir, and subtle electronic tone, set against the dream-like and utterly entrancing android 'birth' on screen, engages your eyes, ears and mind in an entirely primal way.
The animation, in a word, is astonishing. The combination of digital imagery is truly subtle and masterful, rather than bashing you over the head with its digital achievement. The film revels in its details, small things which go unnoticed but register with the subconscious. The main character, in her android 'shell', never once blinks throughout the film, her inanimate 'doll-like' elements managing to de-sexualise her often nude body/shell. The gorgeously rendered reflections and lights, as well as imperceptible movements of backgrounds create an entirely dream-like world which has lost its sense of human identity through its merger with the machine. The viewer feels the same mental detatchment throughout the film, and engages in an almost spiritual experience, which is thematically social as well as personal.
It won't be everybody's cup of tea. If you came to this film from the Matrix, there's a good chance you'll hate its lack of constant action sequences. If you come to it from a purely anime-loving background, you'll love it if you enjoyed mentally stimulating and willfully experimental anime like Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Mindgame, Catsoup, Memories, or Akira. You'll definately hate it if you're a fan of the empty genre-anime such as Naruto, Final Fantasy or Full Metal Alchemist. But if you're looking for a filmic experience which transcends its genre and demonstrates some unsurpassed animation of the highest possible calibre, look no further.
This dvd release is good, though not excellent. The 5.1 surround-mix in English is fantastic in its scope and enhances the experience but the english dub actors are atrocious. I don't know what it is, but english dub actors cannot emote, and speak with the same monotone 'i'm-reading-a-script' voice that anime-watchers have come to know and despise. The Japanese 2.0 stereo is okay but really could have benefited from a 5.1 mastering, especially considering the Japanese voice-actors are excellent. There is a relatively satisfying 'Making of' featurette on this dvd, including interviews with most of the creators/actors/artists involved on the project, as well as a decent overview of the technology and techniques used in the films creation.

Bluntly said Ghost in the Shell is ok. It's not spectacular. The premisis is normal for cyberpunk, the art is brilliant at times horrible at others, the voices are ok but far too quiet, and the nudity felt too tacked on and there was much too much of it. You should check out Stand alone complex before you resort to this. BTW for a special edition they don't put that much special stuff in, and the packaging is horribly annoying and impossible to handle.
Ghost in the Shell .......2007-04-09
A great anime and a must for anyone (not just anime fans). A great sci-fi plot, great character development, and wonderful graphics.
I would also suggest checking out Ghost in the Shell SAC (Stand Alone Complex) at [...]
Not for everybody and I'm one of those everbodies.......2007-03-05
If your the type who loves the kind of anime. That has action every 5 to 10 mins. A cool soundtrack consisting of metal music to get the vibe going. Or a few characters here and there that provide sometype of comedy relief. Then stay far away from this. For some people Ghost in the shell could very well be the beginning for total extinction of sleeping pills. The director's idea was definetly to make you think. And he does a very good job at it. I'll admit the very first time I saw this I did think it was cool. But I tried to watch this again, and I realize this doesn't stand the course of time for me. To me a 4 or 5 star show must be something I can keep in my collection and watch over at any giving time. I cannot do that with this. Without a doubt it is a very intelligent anime and I completely understood the story. It's just the way it was put into action and after 20 mins. I have to watch something else that moves with a faster pace. I'm not saying this is a horrible anime by any means. If your the kind of person that must see action regularly, there is a chance you may not enjoy this.
