3 out of 5 stars Only good if you're super short on time :-l.......2007-08-23

Being realistic, there isn't any chance of any big benefit of this dvd if you only do one five minute routine. You have to put at least two - three workouts together to be of any use. Having said that, this is OK to put at the end of another workout you do, or after going for a long walk or swim or something. Each segment targets a particular trouble spot you might have like arms, chest, shoulders or back for example. You can choose to do any portion in any order. She uses regular kinds of moves to get the job done, and if you put them all together, then this isn't too bad of a workout. The one other thing I can't get over is Denise being over over over enthusiastic all the time. She's way over the top and can be very distracting. I'm sure she'd motivate beginners but for more advanced exercisers, then this may not be the dvd you're looking for.
Easy to do and a workout you can fit in any time, give this a go if you're a beginner - I'm sure you'll find some benefit to it. For more advanced exercisers, steer clear and try something more challenging.

Released amidst rumors of romance between costars Angelina Jolie and soon-to-be-divorced Brad Pitt, Mr. and Mrs. Smith offers automatic weapons and high explosives as the cure for marital boredom. The premise of this exhausting action-comedy (no relation to the 1941 Alfred Hitchcock comedy starring Carole Lombard and Robert Montgomery) is that the unhappily married Smiths (Pitt and Jolie) will improve their relationship once they discover their mutually-hidden identities as world-class assassins, but things get complicated when their secret-agency bosses order them to rub each other out. There's plenty of amusing banter in the otherwise disposable screenplay by Simon Kinberg (xXx: State of the Union, Fantastic Four), and director Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity) gives Pitt and Jolie a slick, glossy superstar showcase that's innocuous but certainly never boring. It could've been better, but as an action-packed summer confection, Mr. and Mrs. Smith kills two hours in high style. --Jeff Shannon

Description

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie smolder in one of the most anticipated, sizzling action films ever made. After five (or six) years of vanilla-wedded bliss, ordinary suburbanites John and Jane Smith (Pitt and Jolie) are stuck in a rut the size of the Grand Canyon?until the truth comes out! Unbeknownst to each other, they are both coolly lethal, highly paid assassins working for rival organizations. And when they discover they're each other's next target, their secret lives collide in a spicy, explosive mix of wicked comedy, pent-up passion, nonstop action and high-tech weaponry that gives an all-new meaning to "Till death do us part!"

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great Movie.......2007-09-10

This movie is action packed and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie really click together in their roles. Jolie is amazing as always. I recommend this movie to all.

5 out of 5 stars loved it!.......2007-09-07

I thought this movie was very enjoyable from the start. The on-camera chemistry between Brad and Angelina was evident and lent a lot to the believability of the movie. Who else could be a decent enough match for Laura Croft herself? Awesome premise and executed very well. It is a witty allegory of married life in contemporary America. I don't own a gun, but could totally relate! My only complaint is the `all girl' agency Mrs. Smith worked for, it was a bit too "Charlie's Angels".

4 out of 5 stars appealing, somehow.......2007-08-09

I don't know how to review this movie. It was like an action/comedy, except the funny parts weren't funny. The action parts were, however, really good and plentiful. The storyline was a bit all over the place for me to really sit there and find any solid enjoyment out of it. Yet somehow, despite the unrealistic story, something about it kept me tuned in. It must have been all the gun shooting action. Maybe I'm getting soft at my old age, or maybe there really was something special about the movie. Worth watching.

2 out of 5 stars Please enter a title for your review.......2007-08-06

It never ceases to amaze me how many hollywood movies of the 2000s that you could reasonably expect to be at least generically entertaining turn out to be downright poorly written and/or edited. The bits of the couple talking to the marriage counsellor is like a subpar tv dramedy, and most of the actual plot is either boring or makes no sense. The two meet in a Cambodian warzone but both believe each other have innocuous American jobs? Then they're simultaneously carrying out assassinations, but telling us who they're killing or why is apparently not as important as highlighting the masterful strategies they employ to get the job done: Pitt cleverly impersonating a drunk to get his targets defences down and Jolie impersonating a dominatrix. This isn't fun, it's just dumb. After enduring those 25 minutes the movie finds it's feet with a few inventive action sequences but still leaves a trail of unanswered questions and sets character logic as an unacceptably low priority.

2 out of 5 stars Unrated review.......2007-08-05

Amazon seems to be mixing together reviews of this product and the regular, unrated version of it, so I will say right off the bat that my review is for the Unrated DVD edition of this movie. So please don't vote it unhelpful just because Amazon put it in the wrong place!

Basically, the unrated disc is a waste of money. For one, "unrated" only refers to less than a minute of previously cut footage from the big love scene. But for some reason, the people who cut this version of the movie actually cut OUT scenes from the original DVD -- scenes that actually added to the plot, whereas none of the restored scenes do. This is quite aggravating. In addition, none of the extras make this DVD worth owning. They should have made this cut of the movie available on the original DVD release instead of giving it its own release. This was an obvious ploy to make more money, and I'm quite sorry that I fell for it. Here's hoping my review allows you to keep from doing the same.

5 out of 5 stars What can I say?.......2007-05-30

This movie scared the hell out of me when I was a little kid. Is there any other service for a B movie like this? The dark elements of the woman being suicidal, etc. made it even creepier, for a 50's horror movie. I can see it being re-made, sort of Independence Day mixed with Night of the Living Dead, only the zombies would be robots. I think I'm having an Ed Wood moment...

3 out of 5 stars A little below the usual B-movie standard.......2007-02-16

I hate to come down on B-movies. Even though a lot of people think they're cheesy and cheap, I feel they project a certain creativity. "It! The Terror from Beyond Space" (1958), "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" (1974)--but not "Target Earth" (1954) as much.
The plot and concept were perfect, in theory. A city has been evacuated due to the invasion of robots, most likely from Venus. A few stragglers must battle their way to freedom and safety.
However, the only sci-fi element used in the film was a robot--who represented a whole army of them. No spaceships--blurry laser beams and hollow acting.
"Target Earth" (1954) isn't that bad. If my copy didn't work any more, then I'd still buy another.

4 out of 5 stars Old Fashion Sci Fi.......2006-11-04

I enjoyed this movie years ago when I was younger. Believe it or not it is still as good as I remember. Suspense, bad acting, crummy special effects. This is how movies were made back then without all the flash and gore this is still a good movie.

3 out of 5 stars Target Earth - Not a Classic, but deserves a chance........2006-09-01

While Target Earth may not be a well known, classic Sci-Fi movie, it certainly gives a decent swing at the genre. Being Herman Cohen's first solo-produced film, Target Earth most definately IS science fiction. The plot of the film is one of the most frightening and classic ideas in the anals of sci-fi - that of the Earth being invaded by beings from another world. The threat in Target Earth, however, is an encroaching vanguard of robots which precede the actual alien invasion. A novel idea indeed. The acting in TE is good, with Richard Denning (Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Day the World Ended, The Black Scorpion) cast as the hero.
If you enjoy watching and collecting classic sci-fi from the 1950s, then Target Earth will make an excellent addition to your DVD library.

Specal footnote, producer Herman Cohen (August 27, 1925 - June 2, 2002) was a producer of B-movies during the 1950s, who helped to popularize the teen horror movie genre with films like the cult classic "I Was a Teenage Werewolf" (1957)...his motion picture career began at his local cinema, the Dexter Theater in Detroit, during his preteen years; he worked there as a "gofer" and later as an usher...his next stop was assistant manager of Detroit's Fox Theater. After a Marine Corps hitch, Cohen worked as sales manager for the Detroit branch of Columbia Pictures, then relocated to Hollywood and worked in the publicity department of Columbia there. He produced his first movies for Jack Broder's Realart Pictures in the early 1950s and made several subsequent pictures for Allied Artists and United Artists. Cohen made exploitation history in the mid-1950s when he began producing some of American International's earliest hits, among them the cult favorite "I Was a Teenage Werewolf." (1957) featuring unknown horror actor Michael Landon as a troubled teenager and Whit Bissell as the primary adult. It was written and produced by cult film producer Herman Cohen, it was made on a very low budget but grossed as much as US$2,000,000 per week in its early weeks of release, and was one of the most successful films released by AIP (American International Pictures)..Herman Cohen's filmography, The Bushwhackers (1952), Kid Monk Baroni (1952), Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (1952), Battles of Chief Pontiac (1952), River Beat (1954), Target Earth (1954), Magnificent Roughnecks (1956), Dance with Me Henry (1956), The Brass Legend (1956), Crime of Passion (1957), I Was a Teenage Werewolf (1957), I Was a Teenage Frankenstein (1957), Blood of Dracula (1957), How to Make a Monster (1958), Horrors of the Black Museum (1959), The Headless Ghost (1959), Konga (1961), Black Zoo (1963), A Study in Terror (1965), Berserk! (1968), Django il bastardo (1969), Crooks and Coronets (1969), Trog (1970), Craze (1973), Gatto dagli occhi di giada, Il (1977)...In the 1960s and 1970s, he began producing horror films in the United Kingdom, working with such stars as Joan Crawford in "Berserk"! and "Trog" and Jack Palance in Craze. In 1961, he returned to his roots in Detroit purchasing the Fox Theater he had worked for in his youth. By the late 1970s, Cohen was working more in writing and distribution than in film production. He founded Cobra Media, a domestic distribution company, in 1981. Cohen died of throat cancer June 2, 2002.

4 out of 5 stars Great for beginners.......2007-09-12

The instructor is definitely not my favorite, but overall this workout is easy to follow and it's great if you're in a time crunch. What I like most about the 10 minute solution DVD's is that you can personalize your workout before you begin, which saves me a lot of the hassle I have with other workout DVD's where I have to go back to the menu and choose my next workout.

5 out of 5 stars CUSTOMIZED WORKOUT IN JUST 10 MINUTES - SUPERB!.......2007-07-31

First, this is a very EASY TO NAVIGATE DVD that lets you CHOOSE which 10 minute exercise you want. Each mini session is just 10 minutes, a plus when you are short on time! This has 5 sessions, each at just 10 minutes:
    1) ABS - Fun, yet a great and fast workout for the stomach and waist.
    2) THIGHS - You can feel the difference after just one session! Loved this one.
    3) BUNS - I was suprized how much fun this was and I could feel the difference!
    4) ARMS & SHOULDERS - This is my favorite because you use 5 weights! Because it is just 10 minutes, the weights SHAPE and TRIM the arms in a short time!
    5) BONUS POWERSTRETCH - Great cooldown! Also, I could feel the stretch all over in my body and was relaxed and felt great after this one!
***Just so you will know*** This is a SUPERB BEGINNER DVD, and you can choose one of the five to do for just 10 minutes or as many as you want, the menu lets you customize the workout. If I could give this one 10 stars, I would!

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic targeted workout option!.......2007-06-22

I'm returning to a fitness lifestyle, so I'm considering myself a beginner--and this DVD is great for beginners. You have the option of creating your own personalized 10- to 50- minute workout, which I find very helpful. I work two of the target areas and the power stretch every other day, and I work the other two target areas on the odd days.

I especially enjoyed the arms segment, although I feel it's a little short, so I often do it twice.

I found the glutes section to be very challenging! It's really great in conjunction with the ab workout.

The instructor is very perky (to the point of Barbie doll perky), which not everyone will enjoy, but I thought she was very upbeat and encouraging.

This DVD is something you can jump right into and work up to, or something you can use to warm up with as you advance your fitness level. I truly enjoy using this one!

    3 out of 5 stars Just okay.......2007-05-07

On the plus side, there's a minimum of equipment. In fact, you only need hand weights for the Arms segment, and the workouts are indeed mostly beginner. (Some true beginners may have difficulty with some moves, such as modified push-ups.) It's also a bit slow and repetitive, but if you've never worked out before, you may appreciate that. It's also not overly perky or chatty, so it doesn't get annoying.

That said, what bothered me was the time breakdown devoted to the workouts. If you divided the entire DVD into upper and lower body workouts, it'd come out to:

    Thighs and butt: 20 minutes
Chest, arms, and back: 10 minutes
    Abs: 10 minutes
    Stretch: 10 minutes

Given that women generally have less upper body strength than they do in their legs, a total of 10 minutes for all three of those muscle groups was a bit disappointing. Not a bad DVD for getting started those first 3 weeks or so, but once you've broken in your muscles, I'd recommend looking elsewhere for a more balanced workout - even for the time-crunched.

4 out of 5 stars Just turn down the sound..........2007-04-10

I like having 10-minute sets of toning exercises to add on after my longer cardio workout. The exercises here are as challenging as you make them, but possible even for a beginner. The instructor, though, annoys the heck out of me! Too perky, seems almost condescending to me. After I learned thre basic routine, though, I was able to just turn down the sound and listen to something else while I worked.

5 out of 5 stars Intense yet Low Imapct on the Body.......2007-08-10

I exercise about 5 days a week. When I did this slow Pilates DVD, I thought nothing of it, but the next day I was sore and that is a good thing. That means that it works. My abs and arms were sore, and I could tell this was going to become one of my favorite Pilates DVD.

    5 out of 5 stars post baby C-section - great results!!!.......2007-05-10

I had two babies in two years and two c-sections. Needless to say, I had a lot of work ahead of me in order to flatten out my tummy. I am happy to say that one year and two months after my baby was born - I have a pretty flat belly!! woo-hoo. The ab section on this video is the best ab workout I have ever done. I did this daily for about 6 months after my baby was born and then I switched it up and did other videos - worked out at the gym and so forth - well I lost all the baby weight and some more! About 6 weeks ago, I came back to this video and the results are amazing!!! GET THIS VIDEO !!!

3 out of 5 stars Love the workout, but not the drums.......2007-02-05

I love this workout, but the drum music gives me a headache. I wish there was an option to workout without the music and use my own. J.K. does a great job as usually making an interesting workout, but I just can't get over the drum beat thing. The "live" music could have been fun if they would have toned it down. She almost has to yell over the sound.

Try Jennifer Kries' Pilates Method: Precision Pilates instead. That is unless you'd like an hour of drum beats.

5 out of 5 stars This DVD is a MUST!!!! .......2006-09-07

I've been studying pilates and gyrotonics for six years with some of the top instructors in NYC but with the increasing popularity of pilates, the sessions have gotten absurdly expensive, which is why I wanted to try a DVD. I have never been one to work out in my home, but ths is truly an amazing workout and not only have I saved so much money by doing this DVD instead of my beloved studio sessions, but I'm able to incorporate it into my busy schedule and do it much more often than I ever could with the sessions.

As the reviews before me have indicated, the DVD is broken up into four segments that each target a specific area, but I think that's slightly misleading. While about sixty or seventy percent of the exercises in each section do target the area they are labeled under, each section also contains a variety of stretches and counter-workouts as well, which make for a more overall workout, whether you're doing one section or four at a time. For instance, in the section entitled "abs" you'll also find exercises that strengthen the back muscles and legs. Therefore, you're able to get a lot of variety and a great overall workout!

******NOTE: I recommend this highly for intermediates and advanced students of pilates, but NOT for beginners!!! In order to do these exercises correctly, you must know the basic pilates foundation such as pelvic placement, breathing techniques, and proper alignment. If you are attempting these exercises as a beginner, they may seem straightforward, but without the proper foundation and knowledge (which is NOT explained), you may not be doing the exercises properly and worse, could get hurt.*******

For those who are newer to pilates, I would recommend perhaps watching the video first, as it moves at what I would consider a fast intermediate pace.

I absoutly love this dvd. I recieved it as a gift from my mother, after the birth of my first child. I did this DVD in part or whole 3 times a week combined with walking. I lost all 60 pounds of baby weight. I absolutly love this DVD and have noticed changes in my body since I started using it for workouts. That was 3 years ago. Now I teach pilates and often refer back to this DVD for moves to introduce to my class. I have also lent out this DVD for a number of friends to try before they purchase their own. My friends alway rave about it.

Gene Hackman and Matt Dillon play a typical (if unlikely) father and son, at odds over the usual generational stuff. Then Gayle Hunnicutt, as the wife and mother, disappears--and suddenly Sonny Boy discovers something he never knew about stuffy old Dad: that he's actually a retired government agent who's pretty handy with a gun and more than willing to waste whoever gets in his way as he tries to get his wife back alive. They bounce around Europe in pursuit, with the kid getting in Dad's way, in a plot that winds up chasing its own tail. Hackman and director Arthur Penn were much more effective a decade earlier when they made Night Moves. --Marshall Fine

    Description

In TARGET, Chris Lloyd (Dillon) does NOT get along with his father Walter. Walter is too careful, cautious, and boring to Chris, and never tries anything new, and Chris had to live by the same standards when he was growing up. But when his mother is kidnapped while in Europe, to Chris's confusion, Walter suddenly turns into a man of action and springs to life.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite movies.......2007-06-04

Ever since this movie came out, it has been one of my favorites. I watch it once a year or so, and enjoy it each time. This is an action/suspense movie with spy elements as well. The balance between action and suspense scenes is just right and the interaction between the father (Gene Hackman) and son (Matt Dillon) is very entertaining along the way - the son finds out the father isn't such an old fuddy-duddy after all!

The movie does start out pretty slowly, but the beginning does a good job of introducing the main characters and sets up the tense yet humorous relationship between father and son.

The plot of the movie is very good except that the ending, while being exciting and suspenseful, is a bit contrived (a little suspension of disbelief is needed here). The acting, with the exception of a couple minor characters, is also top-notch. The characters are believable and seem natural.

Finally, I'd just like to mention that this movie has a couple of great car chases that are a blast to watch, and seem plausible, unlike some movies where the chase scenes are totally unrealistic. Plus the fact that they are in Europe, with European vehicles makes them feel different than the standard fare.

The DVD itself has no special features, but the price is right. The video and audio quality are good (typical 80's movie quality), and are better than my laserdisc copy and much better than my old VHS copy. However, they did leave in the film change markers; so you have been warned if that bothers you.

4 out of 5 stars IF YOU LIKE G.HACKMAN YOU MUST TARGET THIS MOVIE.......2007-03-19

Gene Hackman is one of my favorite actors, and he doesn't let me down on this one. Actually, I think this is one of his best films. He sounds pretty natural speaking several European languages as if he's always spoke them. There's great action in the movie, great intrigue, and suspense. I love the European setting as well. The movie progresses with a crescendo intensity towards climax. I stole this movie from my cousin and kept looking for the DVD until I found it in Amazon, and here it is.

    3 out of 5 stars Target.......2007-03-09

This is a competent spy thriller that nevertheless does not thrill me all that much when I watch it. The music is bad, and is it just me, or does this film feel more like a late70's film than something from the mid 80's?

Anyway, I've started with the off-the-wall nitpicking before giving you the gist of the plot. When an American woman goes missing while playing tourist in Paris, her husband and son team up--despite their differences--to find her. What the son, played by Matt Dillon, doesn't know is that his father used to work for the CIA and may have a piece of his violent past coming back to haunt him. The father, Duke (Gene Hackman), fears a kidnapping right away, and tries to make contact with some of his former superiors for assistance. Before that, while arriving at the airport, Duke is approached by someone with sinister evidence that his wife has indeed been snatched, while someone else suddenly starts shooting. All of this while the son, Chris, has wandered off to flirt with a beautiful girl.

The sudden outbreak of violence at the airport--along with the mystery of why there seem to be two parties linked to the wife's disappearance, one wanting to intimidate and negotiate while the other is overly trigger-happy, within minutes of the plane touching down--accomplishes a lot. It shows that the movie will have some fast action and surprises. It allows us to see how Duke will handle himself in a tricky situation, hemmed in by multiple threats. And it makes it clear that all is not as it seems. A good spy thriller always has layers of complexity to be peeled back, and right from the get-go there is suspense.

The scene also seemed designed to keep Matt Dillon's character, Chris, from discovering his father was a secret-agent man in a former life, possibly with one big ugly loose end, but actually it doesn't take long for him to notice there is something odd about his father, and his new/old friends. Once the father has admitted the truth to his son, and the son has gotten past the shock and anger of it, they begin to function more as a team. Their teaming is a bit awkward at first since Chris is no spy, Duke is out of practice, and the two don't get along well...but nothing makes you function better as a team than an assassin coming back for a second try, or a third.

When the phrase Operation Clean Sweep gets dropped--some kind of mission from Duke's past that didn't go quite as planned, though his recollection is that it was a rousing success--it gives our dynamic DNA-linked duo a direction to focus on. But Duke wants to send his son packing, to a safehouse of sorts, while he either wraps things up or dies trying. Things get even more unpredictable when Chris doesn't do what he's supposed to do.

I think I like the back end of this film best, though there are some decent action sequences in the early-going when everything's more mysterious. Later, the spy trappings kick in in force: the betrayals, the set-ups gone wrong, the strange code names for old enemies, the final showdown between Duke and an assassin, the nerve-wracking attempt to deactivate a bomb, the real threat unmasked. Competently done--somewhat entertaining throughout.

Where then to find fault? Well, I'm not sure Hackman and Dillon create the right father-and-son chemistry. I wasn't convinced that they were really blood relatives; it may have had something to do with two different acting styles, and some odd directing. Hackman never seems all that anguished over his wife being in mortal danger--yes, I know he's the super-cool spy-type 'n all--and he relies on that standard Hackman nervous chuckle that he picked up from Robert Duvall somewhere, but which tends to get on my nerves if I hear it too much. And Matt Dillon seems to me to be overdoing the son's basic trait of frenzied hotheadedness, the trademark of every rebellious know-it-all son who needs to learn a few things about the world. Some of his ranting at his father feels forced or, well, acted. So while Dillon shouts and bounces about as Hackman plays it cool and ignores him, some of their scenes together feel staged, like two actors concentrating so much on their own choice of performance--or the director's--that they aren't really working off each other.

And I like both these actors a lot. In other films.

Meanwhile, there's also the fact that all the veteran spy-thriller or mystery fans may figure out some of the twists before they get untwisted. Plus, is it just me, or would it have killed the sun to come out fully for just one scene? The picture looks kind of grey and grainy all the way through.

A realistic approach to the spy genre that settles for being kind of awkward and ungainly at times. The music doesn't help.

Overall a good film with just enough action and intrigue to keep you interested. Good points: gives those of us who fought in the "Cold War" a look back at the days of the Berlin Wall, East Germany, and the cat and mouse games where no one could be trusted. Bad points: the ending seems disjointed, rushed, and leaves more questions than answers.

Jean-Claude Van Damme, "the Muscles from Brussels," has sought to revitalize his flagging career by working with the most adrenalized directors from Hong Kong action films. His first such effort was this, the umpteenth remake of The Most Dangerous Game, which teamed him with Hong Kong's most fluid action poet, John Woo. Woo does what he can but, as much magic as he injects into the action, he can't turn Van Damme into an actor. Still, this is above-average fare for the wooden Belgian, in which he plays a guy trying to bust a ring of hunters who pay for the right to track and kill human quarry. And Woo has the ever-reliable Lance Henriksen as the chief bad guy, always a plus. --Marshall Fine

4 out of 5 stars "i come back here, and i cut me a steak".......2007-08-30

Lance Henriksen (Aliens, AVP) and Arnold Vosloo (Mummy, Mummy Returns) make this film a sucess. Both play the top bad guys, and both steal the show. Lance Henriksen is the boss named "Fouchon" who's thrill is hiring men to pay him, to hunt down homeless people who have no family or connections. Arnold Vosloo is Fouchon's number one guy "Van Cleaf" who makes the most of his role, with numerous memorable one liners, and a presence that absorbs the camera. Its all about the hunt, and these guys will stop at nothing to see their prey dead.

Van Damme did not have quite a show-stopper as these guys, but thanks to Hong Kong action director John Woo, he provides plenty to make Van Damme shine. Although there are not many martial art sequences, there are plenty of hard kicks Van Damme executes on his enemies, including his famous leaping split kick at one point.

Most of the action occurs in chase sequences throughout the film, and the chases are on foot. There are a couple of scenes where the bad guys are hunting down a single man. Some of the sequences are thrilling and suspenseful. The final 30 minutes of the film are spent hunting down "Chance" (Van Damme's unusual character name) throughout the Bayou. The finale takes place in a large warehouse, where it appears many old Mardi Gras floats and decorations are kept. The finale is basically lots of guns and tons of explosions. Van Damme does get plenty of good kicks in his opponents, but no big match ups that I hoped for, and Van Cleaf dies too soon and easily for a villain who gave such a great performance throughout the film. I loves Fouchon's death scene, it was quite hilarious.

Overall, this movie entertained me with its thrilling chases, lots of explosions, and awesome villains. Van Damme was good in the action, but rather bland with his lines and the majority of the cast was nothing special. John Woo does an ok job, but brings some originality to a Van Damme film, still delivering great action.

    3 out of 5 stars I'll put 3 stars..........2007-03-04

...because there is 1 for Wilford Brimley (always a pleasure to watch his appearances), 1 for Lance Henriksen (who doesn't need any rehearsal for this kind of part), and 1 for John Woo whose effort to make Van Damme look like an actor is the only excuse for casting the most stupid-looking female lead I ever saw : I'm not sure if she was trying to look bewildered or else, but the intensity of the stupidity filling her eyes (especially in close-ups) should have got her some kind of reward, since I don't think it was (or could be) ever matched, except perhaps with the always reliable T(otal)V(ulgarity) products (but that I can't really tell since I NEVER had a TV set).

Besides, I think Van Damme should be liable for some compensation, after stating that John Woo was "THE Martin Scorcese of Asia", which, in my opinion is close to some defamatory remark : there is some violence in some Scorcese's movies, but violence is NEVER the whole of the show!!!

    5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Action.......2006-08-30

This is a fantastic action packed movie starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. The storyline is interesting as it shows the possible challenges that the homeless face. Natasha Binder (Yancy Butler) comes to New Orleans looking for her father who was missing. She meets up with Chance, a sailor (Jean-van Damme) who she hires to help her find her missing father (after Chance fails to be selected from going out to sea). Chance helps her to find out that her father was murdered by some notorious mercenaries who excel at hunting ex-Vietnam war vets on the streets of New Orleans for fun. Here retired war veterans are hunted down like prey.

Claude van Damme demonstrates his exceptional fighting skills when he and the blood thirsty mercenaries are engaged in a spectacular chase through the streets and bayous of New Orleans. This is a great action film with Van Damme displaying his customary exceptional talents in the martial arts area.

This film was producer John Woo's American debut and is one of the best that he has made. It includes some outstanding shootouts, spectacular stunts and breath-taking car chases. It is full of explicit violent deeds. It is filmed in New Orleans and has some good music from Graeme Revell. Lance Henricksen plays the wicked brains behind this grisly sport very well.

I recommend this film to action or martial arts fans, particularly those who enjoy watching a good hard fight. This is one van Damme movie that needs to be seen by every action fan.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2006-07-04

This product is really new like you always say it and there was
no defect at all whatsoever. The sound was clear and the picture
quality was clear also and I really want to thank you guys for

2 out of 5 stars dumb but watchable, 5 stars for L. Henriksen's death scene.......2006-04-12

The plot of "Hard Target" has been summarized in previous reviews, so I'll limit myself to discussing my favorite part.
"Hard Target's" claim to fame when it came out was that it was John Woo's first American film, and that's certainly a big deal. (I just saw "Hard Boiled" the other day, and I'd need seven dictionaries to describe that glorious mess.)
But it boggles my mind that Lance Henriksen's jaw-dropping death scene doesn't land right at the top of every review of this movie. I mean... (spoiler alert) the dude has a grenade dropped into his pants. He manages to get the grenade *out* of his pants before it explodes. And then he throws it away from him, right? Wrong! He UNSCREWS the grenade, hoping to separate the fuse from the explosive. And he DOES separate them before the grenade goes off and starts laughing in triumph. But he holds the fuse like two inches from the explosive and... THE SPARK JUMPS ACROSS! Funny enough already, but L.H. makes this shocked "Whu..." sound that is more hysterical than the entire first season of the Daily Show. Right before blowing up. It's absolutely brilliant.

    Great supplement to gym workout.
I received it in a timely fashion, and it works perfectly.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite work outs.......2007-04-10

This DVD is great. I actually got these on VHS in the mid 90's so it's good to know I can purchase both Abs and Buns on the same dvd. The workouts are great for both the abs and buns however I think the buns might be harder to do then Abs. But I feel great when I work out to Both and I always notice nice changes to my body as I continue the work outs on a weekly bases!

3 out of 5 stars Target Tonimg: Buns and Abs of Steel.......2007-01-09

I guess it was a good work out over all, but its NOT for beginners. I'm in pretty good shape I just needed to tone up a little and this work out is hard-core. I couldn't do more more then 5 minutes at a time. Maybe that's just me, but I wouldn't recamend it to anyone starting out.

3 out of 5 stars ok if you're an 80's beginner, but not great.......2006-11-13

See the other reviews about the BUNS section.

Here's what I think about the ABS section:

If you are a beginner that likes eighties music(Gloria Estefan, Madonna, etc), then you may want to give this video a try. Otherwise don't waste your time and money
(Instead, I would recommend the much more effective "Firm Parts 5-Day Abs" and "more 5 day abs".)

This Buns of Steel video is very boring. The motions don't really fit the songs they picked, so it feels like you're doing a few randomly timed moves to cheesy background music.

This video isn't that intense of a workout (even though the instructor claims that this is the toughest ab workout in the world). There aren't that many reps of any particular movement, and there is also a lot of time wasted doing motions that don't work the abs.

For example, it starts out with about 10 minutes of doing Marching in place & Step-Touches (while flinging arms), interspersed with several random squats and lunges.

Then there is about 20 minutes of the following (overall not that intense, unless you are a beginner):
Leg lifts in front while standing up (this works the hip flexors more than the abs)
    Crunch variations
Bridge position and lift 1 leg up (this is a great butt exercises, but doesn't do much for the abs)
    Reverse crunch
    Push ups
Lift body facing floor (I don't see how this works the abs or any other muscles for that matter)
    Plank
Leg lifts while laying down (works hip flexors and front of thighs)
    Oblique twists w/ Bicycle legs
    Leg lifts w/ crunch
    Oblique twist
Side leg kick (this is a great hip exercise)

It ends with a few stretches.

3 out of 5 stars Great for abs, NOT for buns.......2006-07-07

I tried this because i Wanted a DVD, not VHS, but just ordered another copy of buns of steel with greg smithy on VHS. I almost don't want to give away the secret, but greg has much much better and intense bun excersises than this workout could ever offer. All Robin does is sway her head back and forth and say "come on" while she just does squats over and over and over. Watch out for your knees because you could injure them if you do lunge after lunge at this pace. The number one thing with targeting muscles is form, not quantity, she doesn't go over form! Greg Smithy does go over form and he really targets the inner working of your buns and gets rid of cellulite. and he does floor excersises that isolate muscles. If you want thighs like a transvestite than do these lunges all day. If you want a nice [...] than do Greg Smithy's tape.
Abs on this are good though, so i don't totally regret the purchase
