During the 1980s, one cartoon series ruled the airwaves... The Transformers. This paragon of consumerism was created with a dual purpose--to entertain and to galvanize children to buy the toys. Somewhere along the line, the show became a cult favorite, so in 1986 they fashioned an epic tale of good versus evil specifically for the big screen. The result looked vaguely like an animated remake of Star Wars. Who are the Transformers? The good guys are the Autobots: Optimus Prime, SoundWave, Jazz, Ultra Magnus, and many more. Their mortal enemies are the evil Decepticons, led by Megatron and StarScream. The Autobots must save their home planet from an evil entity known as Unicron (voiced by Orson Welles). At the same time, they must defend themselves from an all-out attack from the Decepticons. Along the way, lives are lost, battles are fought, and a new Autobot leader is born as another dies. The story and action never stop in a thrilling ride that often makes you forget that you're watching an '80s cartoon with inferior graphics. The violence will also come as a mild shock to those who haven't seen this film for a while--definitely a movie for the 8 and over audience. For those who grew up on this series, this is a movie that must be watched. Unlike cartoon serials before and after, The Transformers relied on solid stories and interesting characters, a manifesto the film itself upholds with gusto and grace while also being morally responsible. Don't underestimate this movie; there is definitely more to it than meets the eye. --Jeremy Storey

5 out of 5 stars original transformers movie.......2007-09-13

The movie is excellent, the visuals and audio have all been updated to todays standards. The movie brought back memories from the 1980's. Any one that used to watch the original (G1) transformers should buy this. I also believe that new audiences will also find this a pleasure. The action is great and so is the plot.

4 out of 5 stars Beware if this video is for a child.......2007-09-11

I bought this DVD for my son because he absolutely loves Transformers. There are some things you should know before you buy it for your child. Optimus Prime dies. My son cried. He was crushed. I had never seen the movie so it was a bit of a shock. I spent my weekend explaining death.
As a mom, I think it is violent, but at least there is no blood. I think they blow up when killed. I did notice they said the four letter "S" word and "damn it". This is a heads up if you were buying it for a child. Over all it is a great movie, just think twice if your child is young.

5 out of 5 stars Took me back to my childhood.......2007-09-08

If you are a true Transformers fan, you will appreciate the movie, commentary and extras that were included in the DVD. This is truly a prize for Transformers fans of all ages!

5 out of 5 stars Still good after all of these years........2007-09-05

The DVD version of this movie was great. The color and sound was better than in the VHS version. I took my boys to see this movie when it first came out. As a story, it has stood the test of time.

Something's wrong in the town of Santa Mira, California. At first, Dr. Miles Bennell (Kevin McCarthy) is unconcerned when the townsfolk accuse their loved ones of acting like emotionless imposters. But soon the evidence is overwhelming--Santa Mira has been invaded by alien "pods" that are capable of replicating humans and taking possession of their identities. It's up to McCarthy to spread the word of warning, battling the alien invasion at the risk of his own life. Considered one of the best science fiction films of the 1950s and '60s, this classic paranoid thriller was widely interpreted as a criticism of the McCarthy era (that's Senator Joseph, not actor Kevin), which was characterized by anticommunist witch-hunts and fear of the dreaded blacklist. Some hailed it as an attack on the oppressive power of government as Big Brother. However viewers interpret it, this original 1956 version of Invaders of the Body Snatchers (based on Jack Finney's serialized novel The Body Snatchers) remains a milestone movie in its genre, directed by Don Siegel with an inventive intensity that continues to pack an entertaining wallop. Look closely and you'll find future director Sam Peckinpah (an uncredited cowriter of this film) making a cameo appearance as a meter reader! The DVD release includes an interview with Kevin McCarthy, and for the first time on home video the film is presented in its original 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio. --Jeff Shannon

3 out of 5 stars Not as scary........2007-09-09

After seeing that another remake of this story was being filmed I had to get my own copy of the original. I had seen this film when it first came out many, many years ago. At that time I was terrified. This time around I found it not as scary as I remembered. The story line is the same as the remake with Donald Sutherland. It is fun viewing these older films and seeing the way film making has changed over the years.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Of 50' Sci-Fi !.......2007-08-28

When I first watched this movie I was a teenager. I knew nothing about the Mcarthey era. I didn't live through the early post cold war paranoia. There were no outside influences aside from my love of movies.

I have seen the film over 2 dozen times and believe it to be the best of the 50's generation, and one of the top 3 or 4 science fiction films of all time. With or without the prologue and epilogue.

All things are not what they seem. What if you woke up from a nightmare to find that you are still in it, and can't get out. The message is clear. A home, a car, and a career are all great to strive for in one's life. But love, compassion and emotion are the true gifts to keep living in the first place. Imagine a home without love or any emotion what so ever. None. Good or bad.

One by one, Kevin Mcarthy and Dana Wynter are confronted by the loss of neighbors, associates, and friends. The horror of the loss of everything they new. Early on, when a boy thinks his mother isn't his mother, and a friend doubt's her uncle is who he says he is. Doctor Miles is confused and doesn't know what to believe. So he goes with common sense. His eyes see there is no problem. But The evidence piles slowly and precisely. Soon it is not only what to believe, but who to trust.

Kevin Mcarthy is outstanding. Dana Wynter is absolutely gorgeous and the chemistry between the two seems real. The film will keep you glued from beginning 'til end. Simply one of the best!

5 out of 5 stars classic!.......2007-08-17

You can't get much better if you like SciFi. The remake wasn't very good. Kevin was at his best. Loved the ending. There must always be hope or it is depressing. No matter how bad it gets there is hope.

5 out of 5 stars A Story About One Man`s Resistance To Collectivism.......2007-06-16

The original version of The Invasion Of The Body Snatchers is an absolutely wonderful tale of how one man first tries to save his community from falling into a collectivist society. When this fails he tries save the individual identity of himself and the woman that he loves. Then when she joins the collectivist community he is left with no other alternative but to escape from this community and try to warn those living in other communities.

This is a terrific story that very much captures the political and social environment of the time that this movie was made. I highly recommend The Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. Also if you enjoy this movie you might want to considering reading 1984 by George Orwell.

5 out of 5 stars A great Cold War classic.......2007-05-16

I bought this DVD intending to teach it in a community college film class, but they didn't have the funds so the class didn't get approved. However, I'm pleased as punch at the chance to own this gem of 50's SF film. To watch this film is to fully understand Cold War paranoia, and the mood of the US during that time. Also, it's one of the few 50's SF films that don't descend into VERY silly "special" effects. Worth watching repeatedly.

A movie that only true horror buffs could love, Army of Darkness is officially part 3 in the wild and wacky Evil Dead trilogy masterminded by the perversely inventive director Sam Raimi, who would later serve as executive producer of the popular syndicated TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Raimi's favorite actor, Bruce Campbell, returns as Ash (hero of the first two Evil Dead flicks), a hardware-store clerk who is magically transported--along with his beat-up Oldsmobile and a chainsaw attachment for his severed left forearm--to the brutal battlefields of the 14th century. He quickly assumes power (who else in the Middle Ages packs a shotgun and a chainsaw?), and unites his band of medieval knights against the dreaded Army of the Dead. Raimi gleefully subverts almost every horror-movie cliché as he serves up a nonstop parade of blood, gore, and vicious sword-bearing skeletons--an affectionate homage to animator Ray Harryhausen's classic Jason and the Argonauts. The frantic action is fun while it lasts, but even at 80 minutes Army of Darkness nearly wears out its welcome. You know that Raimi can maintain the mayhem for only so long before it grows tiresome, and fortunately this madcap movie quits while it's ahead. --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars Cheesy and fun!.......2007-08-27

This is one of those awful cheesy movies that you cant help but watch over and over. Its great fun. Pretty much everything is awful in this from the effects to the acting, but, who cares?! Its such a mesmerizing movie. I cant even say how many times I've seen this since I was young. I don't own the DVD but I should. It really is a great cheesy classic. And no, I am not being sarcastic. Watch and you will see...

5 out of 5 stars The Only Army of Darkness DVD You'll Ever Need........2007-08-26

If you want Army of Darkness - this is the edition to get. It has it all: the director's cut and the theatrical cut (each with different endings). It also has the hilarious (and award winning) commentry with Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi - which is as funny as the film itself.

It would be nice if they had a later edition with the director's cut remastered, but until then this is a worthy purchase - and you won't regret it. This is one of my favorite movies, and I'm glad I have the choice of watching both versions since they are very different(I enjoy both).

5 out of 5 stars Bruce Campbell rocks!.......2007-08-23

I have always loved Army of Darkness. It's not as serious as the Evil Dead movies; it's just a fun movie to watch.

5 out of 5 stars Great Movie.......2007-07-04

This movie is awesome! I've been wanting to get it for a long time and don't regreat a cent of it.

This movie was great, very entertaining and funny. If you love Night of the Living Dead, this is even better.

Jane Fonda's memorable, zero-gravity striptease during the opening credits of this 1968 Roger Vadim movie is the closest the film comes to a liberated marriage of wit and sex. Based on a French comic strip, the story concerns the adventures of a 41st-century woman, who pretty much gets it on with whomever asks. The sci-fi sets were pretty interesting at the time, though they look rather anachronistic now. Appreciated today mostly as a camp classic, the movie is actually more trying than anything else. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Jane's body is the star!.......2007-07-31

If you are expecting a great film, then leave this one alone. If you want to see Jane Fonda, in her prime, in various states of undress, then you are in luck!
The 'strip tease' at the start of the film is infamous. If you use your 'pause' and 'stop' buttons on the DVD, you CAN see Jane's breasts a few times.
Every costume Jane wears shows off her great body. Twice, her costume is torn up, and we see even more skin!
My favorite scene is "The Excessive Machine". Jane is put in this 'organ' and stripped of her costume. The machine is meant to pleasure you to death. Jane Fonda is great here. She sells this scene for all it's worth. Soon, she is covered in sweat, and we get many close-ups of her face, as she gives in to the pleasure. Jane then gives what may be the best orgasm ever in a PG film.
Again, the plot, and special effects are not that good. But Jane Fonda's body ROCKS!

4 out of 5 stars Barbarella.......2007-05-28

A fantastic sci-fi sexual experience! Totally cosmic and Jane Fonda is a very hot woman!!
Worth it!

3 out of 5 stars Expired Cheese.......2007-05-25

I think "Barbarella" is best appreciated at a midnight showing with people shouting rude things at the screen. The flick is undermined by the lunkheaded direction of Roger Vadim. Did anybody explain to this guy that he was making camp? Also on display is some of the most garish art direction ever. Austin Powers would vomit. I did dig the shag carpeting in Barb's spaceship, though. What redeems this enterprise is the acting, not least Jane Fonda in the title role. Jane, consummate actress that she is, did understand the tongue-in-cheek aspects of the film. Jane's striptease over the opening credits is something to write home about. Good contributions are also given by David Hemings, Milo O'Shea, Anita Pallenberg, and Ugo Tognazzi. Venture into this flick for it's curiousity value and nothing else.

4 out of 5 stars "Your mission Barbarella: find Durand-Durand.".......2007-04-09

Jane Fonda stars in a title role of this famous cult sci-fi sex comedy as a space beauty in the variety of skimpy outfits. She looks great - all male (and female) creatures on a strange planet SoGo (Sodom and Gomorra?) drooled over her.

"Barbarella" (1968) directed by then Fonda's husband, Roger Vadim may be the silliest, the cheesiest, the campiest movie ever made but it is certainly one of the most entertaining comedies I've seen and is Fun with the capital "F". It is also very "pretty - pretty".

So, what do we have here? In the year 40.000, Barbarella "the Queen of the Galaxy" is sent by the President of Earth in search of the disappeared scientist named Durand Durand (finally I learned how the band got its name.) While looking for him, her space ship crashes on the planet Sogo where she encounters Pygar the Blind Angel (yes the man with the wings), Professor Ping - kind scientist (the celebrated and the finest mime artist Marcel Marceau in the rare speaking role), Dildano (David Hemmings of "Blowup") - the revolutionary who plots to overthrow the evil empire, Marcan - the barbarian who introduces Barbarella to an old fashioned love making (the advanced one is achieved by taking a pill and holding hands - welcome to the brave new world!) and The Great Tyrant - dangerous and very attractive ruler of Sogo (Anita Pallenberg, the object of Mick's, Brian's and Keith's desire and Mrs. Keith Richard at the time) who calls Barbarella "pretty-pretty" and invites her to come and play.

Fonda is quite good as a naive Barbarella and sometimes there is such an ironic and intelligent smile on her face that it should not surprise you what a fine actress she would eventually become.

5 out of 5 stars Barbarella is the Unchallenged Queen of the Galaxy.......2007-03-18

After watching Jane Fonda as "Barbarella" I have nothing negative to say about her anymore.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension is one of the most agreeably insane movies ever made. Peter Weller stars as Buckaroo, an acclaimed neurosurgeon, particle physicist, and, of course, rock star. He travels with the Hong Kong Cavaliers, a band of hard-rocking scientists who are also really good dressers. Buckaroo's interdimensional experiments with his Operation Overthruster throw him (and the Earth) straight into the middle of an alien war, and before you know it, he's got just a few hours to save the world. Confused? Hang on, we're only 10 minutes into the movie. Buckaroo Banzai hurls you right into the middle of its comic-book universe and keeps going at a breakneck pace. It's chock-full of overlapping jokes (even as we're trying to make sense of Dr. Lizardo's hospital room, a voice calmly announces that "lithium is no longer available on credit" over the PA system), hilarious throwaway dialogue ("You're like Jerry Lewis: you give me hope to carry on."), and weirdness just for the sheer joy of it ("Why is there a watermelon there?" "I'll tell you later."). You'll want to watch it at least twice--there's just no way to catch everything the first time around. Ellen Barkin has a terrific time doing a dead-on film noir moll parody as Penny Priddy, and John Lithgow turns in a brilliant manic performance as Dr. Lizardo/John Whorfin. There is no reason not to own this movie unless you are cold and dead inside. Laugh while you can, Monkey Boys. --Ali Davis

Peter Weller plays that Renaissance Man, Buckaroo Banzai, a neurosurgeon, car racer, rock singer, and alien chaser in this overdone sci-fi adventure from 1984. After crashing his nuclear-fueled race car and causing a disturbance in the eighth dimension, Banzai releases some extremely unappealing aliens into our atmosphere. First-time director W.D. Richter (Late for Dinner) pulls out all the stops, resulting in a manic dash that is often incoherent. The intent may have been to re-create old-time serials with a pulp-fiction bent, but the screenplay, full of macho dialogue and cool poses, tries too hard. We could have done with a less complicated story and more character development. Still, consider this flawed fun, because it may be silly, but it is also clever. Originally released as The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension. -- Rochelle O'Gorman

Description

"The very oddest good movie in many a full moon," Buckaroo Banzai combines "humor, imagination, a little oriental mysticism and a passel of sharp performances [into] very chic sci-fi" (Time)! Oscar(r) nominees* Peter Weller and John Lithgow team with Emmy(r) winners Ellen Barkin and Christopher Lloyd for a fiendishly clever, action-packed adventure in an outlandishworld you'll want to visit again and again! Brilliant brain surgeon Banzai (Weller) just made scientific history. Shifting his Oscillation Overthruster into warp speed, he's the first man ever to travel to the Eighth Dimension and come back sane! But when his sworn enemy, the demented Dr. Lizardo (Lithgow), devises a plot to steal the Overthruster and bring an evil army of aliens back todestroy Earth, Buckaroo goes cranium to cranium with the madman in an extra-dimensional battle thatcould result in total annihilation of the universe! *1993: Short Film/Live Action, Partners (Weller); 1983: Supporting Actor, Terms Of Endearment (Lithgow)

4 out of 5 stars Classic 80's SciFi Fun.......2007-09-11

This movie has been a favorite of mine since I was a teenager. HBO seemed to show Buckaroo Banzai every day for about 3 years. So much fun. Viewing the movie as adult, it had a slower pace than I remembered. However, all of the charm and humor was still there. Anyone who enjoys movies like Time Bandits, Ice Pirates, or Brazil will love this movie.

The quality of the DVD is a little cheap. Lame menus, not many extras, but the quality of the print is decent.

4 out of 5 stars Love it.......2007-09-10

We have watched this "cult" type sci-fi movie dozens of times since it was released in the '80s. The number of big stars in this flick is amazing. But, back then, they weren't well known. I have been looking for it on DVD for many years & it finally showed up on Amazon. Quality is really good considering the age. Unfortunately, Yoyodyne was a dot-com bust in the early 2000s (just kidding).

5 out of 5 stars Stellar Cast, Doc Savage Story.......2007-08-31

Buckaroo is another Non-Super superman, who's talent with science, women and everything else is constantly peaking. A great story with so many elements of 30's-60's sci fi. Even a Rip on Grover's Mills.
Watch, Enjoy, BigBootay.

5 out of 5 stars buckaroo bonzai.......2007-08-28

It was a real kick to watch this movie again, after so many years, especially in the DVD format. I had reluctantly thrown away my VHS copy ages ago due to horrible audio. I had forgotten how funny, irreverent and "campy" this movie really is. A wonderful blend of sci fi and comedy -something hard to accomplish well. They must have had a blast making it; I don't know how they kept a straight face through every scene!
I will always be disappointed that there never was a sequel...
The DVD special features weren't as in depth as I would have liked, but still worth watching.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome movie, excellent service.......2007-07-02

I saw this movie nearly 20 years ago and loved it, so when I saw it was available I jumped on it. I received it promptly and it was in great condition. My kids loved it too.

Amazon.com essential video

What's completely and utterly baffling about Killer Klowns is not the plot--that's rather tidily summed up by the title--but the fact that it got made at all. According to the filmmakers, (the Chiodo brothers: Charles, Edward, and Stephen) all it took to convince the studio was a one-page treatment and a picture of a clown holding a gun. It boggles the mind. Anyway, some killer Klowns descend from outer space and start wrapping their hapless victims in cotton candy for later consumption. Debbie and Mike suspect something's amiss, but who will believe them? The movie's greatest asset is its willingness to play on the inherent creepiness of clowns. The Klowns are grotesque parodies of their big-top cousins, hiding hideous malformed teeth behind terrifying circus makeup. It's impossible to tell if Killer Klowns is truly meant to be scary, but it is compelling in its thoroughness: popcorn, balloon animals, and really big shoes are all used to their fullest effect. The only cast member you'll recognize immediately is veteran character actor John Vernon as Officer Mooney, but keep an eye out for Christopher Titus in a small role as Bob McReed. Then just sit back and stare open-mouthed in bewildered joy. --Ali Davis

Description

Finally the truth about clowns is out! Beneath their smirky sinister grins and wildly patterned clothes are clever killers from out of this world. The "juxtaposition of their toy-store arsenal and malevolent intent proves to be a tasty combination" (Los Angeles Times) in this killer entertainment that will leave you fearing these big-top creatures for good. A spaceshiplooking like a circus tentlands in a field near a small town, signaling the attack of deviant, red-nosed, balloon-twisting psychos from another world who plan to annihilate mankindby turning people into cotton candy! Luckily, the town's teen citizenry decides to fight back and teach the cosmic bozos a lesson. But these klowns are no klutzes, turning popcorn, peanuts and caramel corn into playfulbut deadlyweapons of madcap destruction and mayhem!

3 out of 5 stars Cheesy and Campy...fun!.......2007-09-12

Yes, I should have spelled those with a K but I didn't feel like it. This film is pure 80s, clothing, hairstyles, performances, etc.; even the special effects, although that's a bonus. While some effects are highly cheesy, the Klowns are well-realized and creepy. The cast are intentionally goofy (think of films like the original "The Blob"), with the exception of the John Vernon who steals the entire film.

Interestingly enough, there were a few scenes in the film that actually gave me the creeps, unlike a lot of contemporary horror. It's bad, but in a good way.

And clowns are scary, let's face it.

5 out of 5 stars Best clown movie ever made.......2007-07-18

Creepy, scary, sharp tooth clowns killing people for food with some comedy thrown in. Killer Clowns, killer popcorn, killer shadows, awesome makeup effects and a great story. Over all and totally awesome horror experience. All I can say is go watch this film now, and bring on a sequel already!

4 out of 5 stars classic horror.......2007-05-15

This is a must have for the horror enthustist. It is a typical eighties cheesy horror flick, but a classic in my book. If you love B rated horror movies from the eighties, then you have to add this to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars Big Top Of Death... .......2007-04-26

From the far reaches of space they came, seeking an unwary populace to devour and destroy! With their tiny car, floppy shoes, and bone-white faces, they crept into town one dark night. The KILLER KLOWNS had arrived, just in time for dinner! Yep, this amazing little low-budget movie is a must see / must own classic! Whether you love clowns or hate them, KKFOS belongs in every dvd collection! We get cotton candy cadaver coccoons, alien clown-larva popcorn pop-guns, and flesh-dissolving pies! We even get a boxing glove decapitation scene for added enjoyment! John Vernon (Animal House's Dean Wormer himself!) and Royal Dano (Messiah Of Evil) add their comedic talents to this hellish carnival of hilarity! Guaranteed 100% ridiculous and F-U-N! Buy immediately! P.S.- The "Clownzilla" sequence is my personal favorite. Very well done!...

Who would have guessed that this clever, fast-paced creature feature from 1990 would become a beloved miniclassic worthy of its own Collector's Edition DVD? Tremors didn't actually break any new ground (even though its tunneling worm monsters certainly did), but it revved up the classic monster-movie formulas of the 1950s with such energetic enthusiasm and humor that it made everything old seem new again. It's also got a cast full of enjoyable actors who clearly had a lot of fun making the film, and director Ron Underwood strikes just the right balance of comedy and terror as a band of small-town rednecks battles a lot of really nasty-looking giant worms. The special effects are great, the one-liners fly fast and furious between heroes Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward (and yes, that's country star Reba McEntire packin' awesome firepower), and it's all done with the kind of flair one rarely associates with goofy monster flicks like this. Followed by a direct-to-video sequel (Tremors: Aftershocks), this horror thriller was given the deluxe treatment for its DVD release. Bonus features include an original "making-of" documentary, previously unseen video showing the creation of the worm-creatures, outtakes from the film, the original ending not shown in theaters, theatrical trailers, and a gallery of production photographs. If you're a fan, consider this a must-have disc! --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars What a hoot!.......2007-04-12

What a hoot! A great cast that plays this crazy story perfectly straight. They get us to buy into every bit of the story no matter how wrong every "scientific" premise of the story is. Each of the characters is colorful and we root for them in the way they individually deal with the crisis of these "new" creatures attacking their valley home.

Valentine McKee (Kevin Bacon) and Earl Bassett (Fred Ward) are the closest thing to heroes and normal among the males in the movie. They become the leaders and the ones the plot leans on. The most colorful characters are Burt and Heather Gummer (Michael Gross and Reba McEntire) as the survivalist couple with enough food storage and weaponry to stand for five years against an invading army. The Michael Gross character is the one who is in all four movies and a few episodes of the TV series based on the movies. Although, a few others lasted through one or more of the sequels (think of Tony Genaro's Miguel). However, this is the best of the series.

Victor Wong, whom we greatly miss, is terrific as the local shop owner, Walter Chang. In every role I have seen him play, I enjoy his presence and think he makes the movie better.

I guess the whole "Dune" series made the idea of large worms that could move through dirt as easily as a fish through water more believable. And the monsters in this movie are quite good. Because they are underground we believe that all the moving dirt, floors, walls, and machines to be the results of those things being down there and threatening not only the characters, but us! We don't want to get eaten by them any more than they people inhabiting the movie.

And while things get worse and worse for the cast, we still enjoy their inventiveness in trying to get out. That worms are as intelligent as these seem to be does require another leap of faith. But we are willing to make it for this story.

Lots of fun!

5 out of 5 stars One ultra cool monster flick.......2007-03-28

Tremors is a monster movie reminiscent of those old 1950s creature features. The small town of Perfection, Nevada finds its population dwindling due to the menace of underground creatures. The few remaining residents fight for their lives as they're cut off from the rest of civilization.

Tremors has become a cult classic over the years and deservedly so. It's a great blend of comedy and horror, and has enough action and one-liners to keep everyone entertained. Kevin Bacon (in his most memorable role) and Fred Ward lead the pack of unlikely heroes including a seismologist (Finn Carter), a gun-loving couple (Michael Gross and Reba McEntire) and a few other helpless souls. The witty script gave the worms a run for their money; the tactics the characters come up with to outrun them are both ingenious and hilarious. Although this movie is a lighthearted one, there are still plenty of suspenseful moments. Ron Underwood brilliantly helms this little film with the hand of a pro; let's face it, in the wrong hands, Tremors might have been a disastrous and forgettable film.

If you like left-field comedies, monster movies, horror films or are simply in the mood for a fun flick, Tremors is the way to go. The DVD has a lot of extra features including a making-of, an alternate opening and original ending, and movie trailers. Skip the sequels; they don't have the heart and freshness of the original.

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious.......2007-03-24

The first time I saw this movie was with my dad. He rented it and I thought oh man, another cheesy sci-fi movie. But after watching it, it's hilarious. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some dry humor and crude jokes. I liked this movie so much I bought the first and second one a few weeks ago.

I don't know how they did it?! They managed to capture that fun classic sci - fi feeling of the 50's. This is a modern day classic giant bug movie that really pays homage to the good lo' days! It will keep your pulse racing as much as make you laugh. This is the best of the series, but I must admit I like the 3 sequels too! The DVD is a good transfer.

The murder rate is as high as an elephant's eye in this flaccid adaptation of Stephen King's short story. While driving through Nebraska en route to a new job, medico Burt (Peter Horton) and his wife Vicky (a pre-Terminator Linda Hamilton) nearly run over a mutilated boy who staggers from the cornfields. Seeking help, they enter the town of Gatlin, whose under-20 residents have butchered their parents per the decree of junior-grade holy roller Isaac (John Franklin), who preaches the word of a being called "He Who Walks Behind the Rows." King's original story (from his 1978 collection Night Shift) was a lean and brutal mélange of Southern-gothic atmosphere and E.C. Comics-style gore, which scripter Greg Goldsmith effectively neutralizes by adding a youthful narrator (a grating Robbie Kiger) and putting an upbeat spin on the story's morbid conclusion. Fritz Kiersch's direction is TV-movie flat, with the sole inspired moment (hideous religious iconography glimpsed during a bloody "service") delivered as a throwaway. Aside from Horton and Courtney Gains (as Isaac's hatchet man Malachai), the performances are dreadful, and the depiction of the Lovecraftian monster-god as a sort of giant gopher inspires more laughter than terror. Amazingly, the film spawned six sequels; Franklin (Cousin Itt in the Addams Family films) later appeared in and wrote 1999's Children of the Corn 666. --Paul Gaita

3 out of 5 stars OUTLANDER!.......2007-04-18

Malachai is the frightening one here in this adaptation of Stephen Kings short story Children of the Corn.
This movie will give you the creeps during the scenes through the corn fields, the fact that the town has been rid of adults, and then there is the scene--an unexpected scene that involves a child and a car ...enough said. Watch the movie and feel the fright for yourself.

There are some cheesy parts in this movie due to low budget production, but all in all not so bad.

4 out of 5 stars No adults aloud!.......2007-02-11

This is an OK movie. I've seen it three or four times and I decided to buy it. I didn't even bother watching all the others because movies that aren't that good usually don't have good sequals either. But this one is good enough to watch although not scary at all. Malachai is pretty cool.

3 out of 5 stars Solid 80's horror from a Stephen King short story.......2007-01-29

Like the majority of adapted Stephen King stories, this 80's horror flick falls short of the source material, although it's pretty cool to actually see the source material on the screen. (Literally, a paperback copy of Night Shift is on the dashboard in front of Linda Hamilton in the opening driving sequence).

The original story is only 30 pages long and a little different from the movie, but again, like the majority of King's work, it just doesn't transfer directly to the screen. The story is slightly modified, but not terribly so. One day the children in a small town decide to rise up and kill all the adults in the town in order to worship HE WHO WALKS BEHIND THE ROWS. This plot-line goes back to one of King's semi-obsessions: the idea that there are small towns out there so remote that no one would even notice when an entire town is massacred and deserted... that is, until a pair of unsuspecting travelers happen upon it.

Rating this movie based on special-effects and film quality standards of today would hardly be fair, and I have a feeling that for the 80's this was a quality film, but obviously, today the climactic scenes, and some stuff leading up to that are pretty "corny"... I knew I'd have to say that.

I haven't seen any of the sequels, and I suspect they're not that great, but this film is worth the time to watch if you're into horror movies. The kids playing Isaac and Malakai are definitely creepy and poor special effects are forgivable if you have creepy kids backing it up.

5 out of 5 stars OUTLANDER,this is slashing horror.......2006-12-27

When I saw this movie I was blown away.It was sad that ALL the adults died, but the weirdest thing is that the signs to gatlin are every where they confuse a couple that are lost on a trip across the country when they stumble onto these children that hail to a demon in the corn when the kids get to old they are sorry, can't tellyou have to see the movie.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible.......2006-11-18

I could not sit through this movie. The acting and screenplay are terrible. This film could be described as a bad made-for-tv movie at best.

I ended up fast-forwarding though the entire movie after the first 30 minutes and turned the player off before I reached the end. I couldn't take it anymore. This movie is one of the worst I've attempted to watch in a long time.

Not recommended.

Here's a sick little movie for you--a creepy-funny shocker that's become a semi-cult classic since its release in 1982. It's a cheesy, low-budget horror flick about a small-town geek who arrives in New York City's Times Square carrying his mutant, telepathic twin brother in a big basket (hence the movie's title, get it?). They were once Siamese twins, and now they're seeking gory revenge against the doctors who surgically separated them against their will! Talk about brotherly love! The "normal" sibling has to keep his brother well- fed, and the basket-dweller's appetite runs the gamut from hamburgers to hookers. There's plenty of lowlife "meat" to be found in the seedy motel where the brothers live. Not exactly mainstream fare, as you might already have guessed, but director Frank Henenlotter handles the gruesomeness with resourceful ingenuity. The movie even gathered enough horror-buff momentum to spawn two lesser sequels in 1990 and 1992, which is all the proof you need to add this dubious trilogy to the gross-out hall of fame. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars Brother Basket Case.......2007-08-24

I just stumbled across this movie, probably since I've viewed Something Weird films before. I am very impressed at this little gem. For it's production budget, who could do better. The story is original, the gore is kept at bay and you can see what Time Square looked like back in the day with it's junkies, bottom dwellers and harlots.

I don't think I'll see the sequels since this one is open-ended.

Take a chance, you may be impressed too.

5 out of 5 stars Great horror cult classic!.......2007-04-16

In the seediest part of New York City, a strange young man named Duane Bradley check into a hotel in times square with everything especially a basket that contains his small deformed brother. Long ago Duana was born with his twin brother attached to him creating a fuss among his family and when he was older him and the creature got surgically seperated leaving the Siamese brother in a garbage can, he did rescued him and protects him every know and then. Now they seek revenge on the people that seperated them as the creature goes out of control for it eats ravenously and craves for blood even the ones from room intruders.

An unforgottable horror comedy independent flick that became an instant midnight cult favorite with critical acclaim even from Rex Reed, this darkly comical terror tale is gory as hell and funny too. The violence and gore gave this movie an X rating originally but was released uncut and unrated into theaters, the acting maybe wooden but the storyline is quite original and features some good make-up and stop motion effects.

This special edition DVD has quality picture and sound with cool extras like audio commentary by director Frank Henenlotter with producer Edgar Levins and Actress Beverly Bonner, theatrical trailers, TV spots, outtakes, behind the scenes footage, a featurette, radio spots, radio interviews, clips from Beverly Bonner's comedy cable TV show "Beverly Bonner's Laugh Track", and poster-and-still gallery for this is a must have for true horror aficionados.

4 out of 5 stars "Campy" at It's best!.......2007-04-15

If you like campy horror flicks or "Horror comedy", then Basket Case is right up your ally. Basket case is a film about a young man who moves into a shady apartment in New York. People who meet him find him a little odd because he is always carrying a basket with him. It is later reveled that what he is carryig is his grotesquely deformed siamese twin. When I say deformed, I mean it. It gave me the freaking creeps.(It makes terrible noises when it's mad)Well, the young man soon starts to see a cute desk girl who he meets at his doctors office. The two start to date but it turns out the his brother in the basket has some murderous "Seperation" issues. The production is B grade. The acting is so corny its hilarious but "Basket Case" still delivers enough scares to keep you interested. The beauty of the film is that it knows it's corny but it makes it's corniness one of it's strengths. If you're a fan of B horror or just horror in general "Basket Case" is a must see.

4 out of 5 stars AN EXCELLENT FILM ON A SHOE STRING BUDGET.......2007-04-09

This is a very strange movie, but it is also a good movie. The director Frank Henenlotter pretty much made this movie all by himself! He wrote directs and stars in this wierd tale of two brothers. This is not for everyone, but if you like horror and have an open mind, check this out and the really wierd sequels. Also recommended "Frankenhooker" and "Brain Damage" by the same director.

5 out of 5 stars What a B movie!.......2007-03-21

In my opinion, this is the most unique, entertaining, unforgettable B movie of all time! A must-have for any movie collection. This is so funny, creepy, and original! Basket Case 2 and 3 I'm not too sure about. The movie was complete enough so that sequels were unnecessary. Every single person I've ever showed this movie to has said unanimously that it was a one-of-a-kind, and were all very entertained! This is money well spent. Now all we need is for movie makers to release Saturday The 14th on DVD (or even VHS!) and we'll be set for life!!

It's Christmas in the tech noir slum of the post-apocalyptic future, and scrap-metal sculptor Stacey Travis gets a present she'll never forget. Scavenger boyfriend Dylan McDermott returns from the wastelands with the insectoid robot head of a killing machine. In no time it whirs to life and builds itself a gizmo-laden body out of handy appliances to continue its single-minded destruction of the human race, one warm body at a time. Director Richard Stanley, something of a scavenger himself, plunders everything from The Terminator, Blade Runner, and The Road Warriorto Short Circuit (the spidery construct resembles a demonic Number 5) for his violent flesh-vs.-metal survival thriller. Shot in sun-blasted orange and sweltering red, it's a triumph of style, set design, and grunge aesthetics over story, driven by a pounding techno score by Simon Boswell and punctuated by splattering gore. --Sean Axmaker

4 out of 5 stars EVEN A KINE VERSION OF THIS CULT MOVIE IS WELCOME........2007-08-18

I'm grateful to get it, but this's a kine from German TV and not a very good one. I have a HARDWARE tape I took from DirecTv and it's vastly better. But when such kines (or whatever this's called) come out, the real re-release often isn't far behind. (Like Pacino's CRUISING, which has been making the boot rounds, and now the bona-fide release is upon us. For perfectionists, perhaps waiting might be best. ( Or pay about seven times the price of this issue and MAYBE get the real deal from a re-seller.)

But fuzziness aside, this print is viewable. And it has
'deleted scenes', some of which are pretty edgy...

2 out of 5 stars Oh the humanity! .......2006-03-10

You know the previews for this movie looked really cool. Than again they are supposed to look cool so you will go and see the movie. I have to admit I was suckered in. Even the first 15 minutes of the movie suckered me into thinking this is going to be a really cool post apocalypse/cyberpunk style flick. But alas I was fooled.

The movie opens up with a scavenger looking guy wandering the wastelands where he picks up the head of the killer robot. Everything from the cinematography to just plain coolness factor was there. The movie goes way downhill from there. I think the biggest problem is the movie just didn't know what it wanted to be. So much attention was diverted into what were ultimately details that had nothing to do with the plot. They are so blatant I have to point them out:

One instance is a huge scene was devoted to what sums up to being soft porn with voyeurism. You figure since they spend so much time on the guy watching the love fest that he would be a pivotal character. Right? WRONG! You could have cut that entire scene out and it wouldn?t have made a difference to the plot development at all.

Another example is you get to hear two security guards talk over a chess about how computers don't understand certain tactical elements like strategic losses. Sounds like a nice little hint on what to do against the killer robot right? WRONG! That little tidbit of information never needed to ever used because it DIDN'T MATTER.

And lets not forget about the death scene of one of the prominent characters that took several minutes of dying even though we're told the method of death is supposed to be very quick. I won't even go into the lame way they actually take out the killer robot. All I can say is that it was a major disappointment and essentially came out of nowhere.

I will say that the production elements of the movie were great. Cinematography was excellent and the visual effects were really cool. The atmosphere of the movie stayed consistent also, plus the soundtrack is cool with songs from Simon Boswel, Ministry and Public Image Limited. Too bad the movie never went anywhere story wise.

I can only recommend about the first 10 minutes and the last five minutes of the movie as good. The rest of it stinks. If you want to go and watch the entire film for the sake of debating it's blatant inconsistencies I can dig that too. (...). Let this movie be a lesson to all of you science fiction movie makers out there: Think about what you?re doing and make the stuff you put in makes sense in the end.

5 out of 5 stars forget the terminater hype-hardware is the real deal!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-02-21

huge budgeted conglomerate films as the now degenerate terminter series should of taken a cue from hardware mark 13.this movie was set in the post apocolyptic uk and gave the vibe that the world would become creepier than it is today.the soundtrack that is now 16 years old is electric .go back and listen to terminater 1 and listen to the 80's synth babble compared to the foresight of using underground bands such as p.i.l.,ministry and motorhead to supplement the eirie soundtrack.this was ahead of its time.
hardware mark 13 is just one of those films that if you get it,you really get it.if you dont,ya got no taste or imagination.if your into 20 minute drawn out car chases(terminater) and men made of liquid metal ,hardware is not for you,it borders on what could be.nothing wrong with that.
although its sci-fi its not completely out of control with time travel every couple years and the villian is brutal, then he's nice and then who cares.i think the us gross for hardware was 6 mil..not bad for a 2 mil budget.and with video and dvd the following grew and grew.how much did the terminater/cameron franchise cost..too much for too little...you can by the whole terminater series on amazon for 2 bucks, ive sold 1 copy of hardware for over $100.00...that says it all!!
no sequels although without hard moe and his metal hand it would be tough to pull it off,but id always welcome a sequel, even if it stunk,it would still be a far cry better than the same old regurgitated rip off on terminater, aliens and anything else that made a few bucks one summer.
harware mark 13 is a classic and will a
