Jackie Chan finally conquered America with Rumble in the Bronx. If the mildly contorted English dialogue sounds peculiarly foreign and disembodied (most of it is dubbed), and the mountains of Vancouver, BC don't convincingly double for the skyline of New York City, well, peculiarities like these actually contribute something to the movie's ingenuous charm. With his disarming smile and feline physicality, the compact Chan radiates star quality. But there's more to him than charisma: at his best, the actor combines the relentlessly escalating, hyperkinetic action set-pieces for which Hong Kong is famous; the rigorous martial arts training of his idol, Bruce Lee; and the grace and daring that distinguish Buster Keaton's physical comedy. Chan also shares some of Keaton's cinematic integrity, which dictated that you shouldn't cheat the audience by faking stunts, on the set or in the editing room. Like Keaton, Chan does his own stunts, and you can see that it really is him jumping off a bridge onto a speeding boat, or clinging to the dangling ladder of a helicopter as the hostile pilot tries to shake him loose by smashing him into the sides of skyscrapers. Not that it matters, really, but the plot of Rumble in the Bronx has something to do with Chan helping the woman who has taken over his uncle's neighborhood market when she is harassed by local hoodlums. What really matters is Chan, and he's in fine form. Rumble in the Bronx doesn't rank with his best work, but it's a swell introduction to a unique star. And those stunt outtakes over the end credits are as delightfully spellbinding as ever. "See?" Chan seems to say every time he breaks a rib or twists an ankle (which happens often). "I'm doing this all for you." --Jim Emerson

silly but fun jackie chan flick.......2007-09-08
I have watched this movie so many times that the ridiculous dubbing and laughable characters seem to fit this movie well for what it is. Jackie Chan has never been involved in any real seriously made films, so those are just things you come to expect (especially when dealing with dubbed verisons). This is another film thats all about the fun factor, and just having a good hour and half dedicated to some great stunts and chases that Chan goes great lengths to provide.
In addition to the dubbing, characters, and lame script, you can pretty much forget the simple plot and still enjoy this film. Its all about the stunts and fights. What this film does not have in comparison to other Chan films is one really bold stunt (Supercop or Project A for ex.), or one really good fight (Legend of Drunken Master or Who Am I?) There are plenty of what I like to call smaller stunts and smaller fights, but there is so much of it throughout the film, that pacing is well done and it is pleaseable entertainment.
If you have not seen a Chan film, this is a strong entry to begin with. Though you may regret it at first after hearing the dialouge and seeing some really goofy characters, the action of Chan that include his real life stunts will easily draw you in. Noteworthy scenes are the parking garage chase, brawl in the gang's hideout, and the final hovercraft chase through the city.
Jackie Chan in all his glory.......2007-02-26
While the dubbing may be a little annoying, I still love this movie. The fight scenes are great and the movie is pretty funny at times. Driving motorcycles over cars will always be cool in my book. Don't expect the deepest movie in the world, but do expect a quality martial arts film.
Goog Kung-Fu Comedy.......2006-12-11
I don't like Kung Fu comedies, but this is a good one. The fights are good, only the ending is a silly piece of action.
Wonderfully entertaining.......2006-09-28
First, a disclaimer. If you take your cinematography seriously, if you are looking for good acting and a realistic story, this is not the movie for you. But if you enjoy slapstick comedy and a martial arts expert who pushes creativity to a higher level than anyone else, then Jackie Chan's Rumble in the Bronx is the movie for you!
The premise of the story is as follows: a young man flies in from Hong Kong to attend his uncle's wedding and to help him with the sale of his store. But during these events, a gang terrorizes the new store owner and causes a ruckus in Keung's neighborhood. Being the noble character that he is, Keung (Jackie Chan's character) defends the store, stands up to the gang, and as a result, winds up getting into a lot of trouble. But what will he do when the gang leader's girlfriend happens to be a neighbor that he has helped out in another situation? Which side will he take?
The action scenes in this film are phenomenal. Jackie Chan outdoes himself in using various items to defend himself and the helpless people of New York. The stunts are highlighted by his jump from one building to another (across a street, without cables or safety nets)! He even performed some of the final scenes on a broken ankle, including one in which he waterskis without the help of skis! The man is incredible!
This was the first Jackie Chan movie I had ever seen, but despite its silliness, he had me hooked! I recommend this movie highly to anyone who just wants to be entertained. Those looking for depth or any sort of "human touch" may wind up disappointed... but I was not!
Very Good Movie.......2006-06-26
I think this is an awesome movie. The fight scenes are very exciting and the story is pretty good. I think those reviewers downn there are being way too critical and picky. But, I'm not much of a movie critic. As a non-expert in movie, this is definitely one of my favorite Jackie Chan's movie. If you're a Jackie's fan then I recommend it.

Jackie Chan finally conquered America with Rumble in the Bronx (1995). Not that it matters, really, but the plot of Rumble in the Bronx has something to do with Chan helping the woman who has taken over his uncle's neighborhood market when she is harassed by local hoodlums. What really matters is Chan, and he's in fine form.
Chan does his best James Bond impression with First Strike (1996), an ecstatic sequel to the classic Supercop. The bare-bones plot has him in pursuit of international terrorists, but the narrative quickly gives way to an unceasing barrage of insane stunt work (including a nitro-fueled ski chase and a grandiose fight scene set inside a functioning shark tank). As with most of the aging star's recent films, there is more of an emphasis placed on big, impersonal (albeit impressive) stunts rather than the close-up combat that made him famous; but the end result is still a must-see rush for longtime fans, and a great introduction for newcomers eager to see what all the well-deserved fuss is about.
In Mr. Nice Guy (1997), Chan is involuntarily involved in a gang war between stereotypical Italians and punkers right out of A Clockwork Orange. Most of the cast is in a coma, and the plot is stupid, stupid, stupid. The reason to watch this is for Chan's gravity-defying stunts as he is chased through the streets of Melbourne by Aussie thugs trying to relocate missing cocaine. Watch for a stunt involving a horse-drawn carriage, as it almost compensates for the lackluster story line.

Just Buy 2 Out Of 3 Separately!.......2003-07-17
Mr. Nice Guy and First Strike are both excellent movies to watch and get at [local store] if you can't get it here!
This action pack could contain Shanghai Noon instead of Rumble in the Bronx. Opt-out for Rumble in the Bronx since it is Hong Kong style...meaning you will have to deal with foreign language spoken while someone in English interprets. Kind of weird if you ask me. It is like Drunken Master where you have to listen carefully.
Extreme action pack.......2002-04-18
hi
The movie on the far left is Mr nice guy
All 3 of these movies are very good and i recommend buying them
i must have seen each of these films more than 10 times
Two of the movies on it........2002-03-22
Two of the movies in this set are Jakie Chan's First Strike and Rumble in the Bronx. I can't make out the movie on the far left of the picture. I hope that helps.
Little help?.......2002-02-26
This might sell more copies if the movies in the pack were listed somewhere.... If anyone who has this can list them I would be much obliged. :-)
The greatest Jackie Chan movies from the 90's in one pack!.......2000-09-03

Action Packed Double Feature.......2007-05-24
Aside of the fact that these movies are a double feature, they come on one disc. If u are a fan Jackie Chan then u will like Rumble in the Bronx. It's a half action half comedy movie that will entertain you. Chow Yun-Fat delivers thrilling, action-packed performance in The Corruptor from beginning to end.

Action packed edge of your seat thillers.......2000-06-21
I am extremely happy to see that there is such a wide variety ofJackie Chan Action films. These three films were all excellent intheir own Jackie Chan way. All of them are a must see! The pack, containing three videos, is a very affordable and at [the price] how can any true Jackie Chan Fan say no. While these films are great they are definitely not suitable for children under the age of sixteen. All of them have similar storylines, boy gets in trouble, boy meets a girl, boy saves the day and gets the girl. However they are still all movies that you can sit down and watch over and over again.
Jackie Chan is amazing and some of the stunts that he does are outstanding in these movies which makes up for the lack of variables in the storylines. The greatest thing about these three Jackie Chan movies is that he doesn't try to be a Bruce Lee or Jet Li he isn't this invincible superhero who comes out of every volatile situation with out a scratch or a sweat.
Thanks to Amazon.com for this outstanding and very affordable pack. Two thumbs up!

Jackie Chan plays a visitor to America who agrees to fend off a biker gang's designs on his uncle's market in the Bronx. If you can get past the Vancouver skyline substituting for the New York City neighborhood, and the cheesy dubbing job, this is another of Chan's startling, balletic takes on martial arts action. (It's also his first breakthrough American film.) Even if you don't have an interest in fight films, this is worth seeing just for Chan's endless grace as a body in motion. The DVD release has optional full-screen and widescreen presentations, Dolby sound, theatrical trailer, and background on the stars and production.--Tom Keogh
