Description

Burt Reynolds is Gator McKlusky, a moonshine runner who wages war against corrupt police officials in this two-fisted, four-wheeling action extravaganza. With adrenaline-pumping car chases, bone-crunching brawls and terrific acting by an all-star cast, including Diane Ladd and Laura Dern, White Lightning will give you the jolt of your life! Gator is serving time in an Arkansas prison when he learns that his brother has been murdered by ruthless Sheriff J.C. Connors (Ned Beatty). Swearing vengeance, Gator agrees to go undercover to expose Connors, going to any lengths to get the goods on the sheriff and make him pay for the crime with his life.

Ya know,I get so sick and tired of every smart aleck fast talking yankee thinking its their mission in life to trash anything and everything that I happen,and have a God given right to enjoy. If you dont like this film,fine,thats your right.But dont get your nose bent out of shape just because I do! The terms hillbilly and redneck are just as racist as all the other words that I dont use (but they are conviently overlooked).I like this movie,I think its great and if that bothers you..go back to toledo and stick your head in the snow!

Great chase scenes.......2006-11-10

Enjoyable tale of small-town southern bigotry; heavy-handed use of stereotypes. Burt Reynolds is young and charismatic. Enjoyed the car chases; for the most part, very well done. Justice is finally served at the end of the movie.

White Lightning.......2006-07-10

Just another classic Burt Reynolds movie. It reminds me of being young. If your not a Burt Reynolds fan, you might still enjoy the movie.

The Forgotten Cool of Burt Reynolds.......2006-07-04

I caught WHITE LIGHTNING on cable and what's interesting to me is how lean, mean and cool Burt Reynolds was. The problem is that too many of Burt's horrible later films have been rotated to death on cable TV and you forget how much macho charisma Burt had. Forget STROKER ACE, CANNONBALL RUN 2, SMOKEY & THE BANDIT 2.
In the early 70's, Burt was kicking butt and taking dames.

WHITE LIGHTNING also had a great supporting cast, including R.G. Armstrong, Bo Hopkins and Ned Beatty as a very sinister and corrupt Southern sheriff.

Like DELIVERANCE, this movie is one to see for Burt Reynolds the actor, or at least the icon.

Ok, so I was 6 when I saw it..........2007-06-25

So the cinematography isn't great, there's no logic to the ending, the main character's equitation leaves much to be desired, but MAN I loved this movie as a kid! I watched it probably 100 times. Had to give it 5 stars for nostalgia's sake. I would recommend it for kids, not so much for adults. :)

I had purchased this movie for pre-teens and they were quite bored with the stilted acting and with the obvious "horse switching" from scene to scene. Overall an okay movie for the 10 and under crowd.

I am a fan of the Black Stallion movies and Mickey Rooney. However, this is NOT a movie that I would recommend.

The plot was ok but left open enormous gaps in its logic and an unfinished ending; for instance, the lead female is going blind but somehow she wins the nationals in show jumping when she would have needed to have a physical exam to compete in it.

The actors appear to be Canadian although California competitors will recognize one arena at the LA Equestrian Center in every horse show featured in the movie (supposedly in different areas). The settings were not varied enough nor were the horses consistent. In some scenes the lead horse is grayish with a chewed off tail and then in others he is white with a long flowing tail.

Overall the acting was that of a "B Movie," too stilted to be believable with odd cinematography that tried too hard to make up for it. I am sorry for Mickey Rooney to have this on his resume; he is a much better actor than what came out in this film.

For people wanting a good family horse movie I would recommend Disney's "Miracle of the White Stallions" or Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment's "Sylvester" instead of this film.

An OK serial with great Rin Tin Tin action.......2007-06-02

As serials go, this is pretty typical of what you would see in theaters back in the 1930's - a story presented as weekly serials roughly 15 minutes in length. The action all revolves around a mysterious cloaked figure that has convinced the Indians to attack the settlers in the valley if they don't vacate their settlement by the new moon. At stake are a number of rich mines that the settlers have been working. The brother of a murdered federal agent, a local orphaned boy, and Rinty are working together to discover the identity of the cloaked figure before the Indians attack. The only big name in this film besides Rin Tin Tin himself is George Brent as the brother of the murdered federal agent, giving a somewhat wooden performance compared to his later work for Warner Brothers.

The story is fairly pedestrian, but if you love watching the original Rin Tin Tin in action, this is only one of a few films I know of on DVD where you can still see the great German Shepherd star. Another is the 1925 silent film "Clash of the Wolves" that is on the DVD set "More Treasures from the American Film Archives". Supposedly, Grapevine Video has "Where the North Begins" (1923), "The Night Cry" (1926), "Tracked by the Police" (1927), and "The Lone Defender" (1930) all available on DVD-R. Unfortunately, this 1931 film has not been restored at all. The video is in bad shape in spots, and there is considerable hissing in the audio. However, I would say it is nothing worse than what you see on those public domain 50 Movie Packs. Even as a teenager Rinty still had it. The dog actually did seem to "get" the concept of acting. In a couple of scenes I really thought I saw him do a double-take! Plus there are quite a few good action scenes involving Rinty. If you are a Rin Tin Tin fan I recommend this DVD in spite of its technical flaws due to the film's age.

Lightning Warrior.......2007-01-03

This serial shows Rin Tin Tin in his elder years. It is a must for Rin Tin Tin fans.

The company who released this is charging way too much for it. If it was a cheapie $7.99 (or whatever) DVD then I wouldn't complain. I love budget DVDs ( thank you Alpha Video! ) but, the list price of this release is insulting. VERY poor quality transfer, VERY. Its a shame too, Long Hair of Death is a great flick. Cool period setting, good production design, engaging story, spooky, its my favorite Barbara Steele movie. If you've never seen it before and are desparate then buy it used or on sale. Shame on you Eclectic DVD Distribution!.......ya jerks.

Great Film, Lousy DVD. Inexcusable........2005-10-22

The film is quite good, I'd say 4 stars. Not Barbara Steele's or Antonio Margheriti's best (that's probably Black Sunday/Castle of Blood), but a very good, enjoyable film.
But this DVD is really lame. For more, see the other review here, but suffice it to say, these guys obviously encoded an old worn-out VHS tape with bad audio built-in and acted like it's a serious DVD. No, it's terrible. I guess if it's the only way to see the movie it's worth a rent on bargain day, but otherwise forget it, and avoid releases by this company. Even worse than Alpha video. (I never thought I'd ever be saying that!)

I gotta ask the question, does the other reviewer who posted a review really have a clue about dvd quailty or are they so desperate to own this movie that they will accept a poor product? If you you think this release looks good, what is "good" in your opinion?
Let's start off with the BIG problem, the soundtrack is SO off that lips stop moving before dialog is spoken....Hello? This is good quality? The dubbing is HORRIBLE! Washed out video wtih plenty of flaws and NO remastering at all does not make a good release in any form-SORRY! How can you be so excited about this cheapo version when for nearly the same amount of money "Castle of Blood" is 1000 times better looking and packaged. In fact, even Alpha Video's "Terror Creatures From the Grave" for half the price (say 5.99) looks better. I could live with the washed out video but the dubbing is almost hysterical. There are many sources for these old film prints, why not look for a good one and spend the money to develop a decent product?

This company Sinema Diable has released many "out of print" or should we say "public domain" titles for around 10.00 when they quality is worth 1.00. This movie has been circulating on dvd and vhs for years from many collector websites and in better shape than this dvd. I have seen better dubbed versions. This is fact. I watched both versions side by side and compared the quality.

I can now remaster a movie on my home computer (I have done so with my old home movies) with basic software-so in my opinion in 2005, there is no excuse for any film/dvd company to not do a perfect job in bringing "classic" films to the public and in decent shape. Certainly, the cost is not that high to clean up and master a movie-no excuses-sorry, I don't want to hear it.

This is one of my favorite, if not my fave Barbara Steele film and it's makes me mad that this release is so crappy-"Long Hair" deserves more and I expected more for this movie!

I guess maybe I am not over the other horrible quality releases from Sinema Diable. I am not trying to be picky where "rare" films are concerned, but this dvd should not be praised for qualilty on any level. If you think this release surpasses your expectations, in all fairness, not to be rude, you need to raise your standards.

BARBARA STEELE EURO CLASSIC.......2005-10-09

One of Barbara Steele's best films. She has never looked more beautiful. One of those forgotten Euro-classics that the wonderful Ms Steele did in the 60's. The DVD here is the best print I've seen do far. I had hoped for a remastered version, but this one is far better than I expected. Wish someone would remaster all her films as nicely as Black Sunday and Castle Of Blood. Fans will love the chance to see this gem.

This extreme MTB DVD would have to be the best one yet. Pretty much opens as a bit of a plug for the major sponsors, Kona and Whistler Mountain bike park, but that is quickly forgotten as you get into the DVD with unbelievable MTB action.

The DVD covers all type of riding from fast XC, freeride, urban, dirt jumping, downhill, northshore and then onto what I will describe as just insane-stupidity as some of the riders hit massive drops and ride off cliffs. The Tour de France gap jump is sensationally brilliant, even more so if you're a bit of a roadie too.

The urban street riding is extremely impressive and the best bit is that this time you get to see some 'bloopers' as the riders re-attempt what they crashed on earlier. Lots of helmet cam sequences along with fully staged set-up jumps. The northshore helmet cam sequences give you the best idea of how insane these guys are, especially when you follow them right off 30ft drops into the forest.

I got this DVD from a friend, to watch while I was recovering from my own sensational freeride stack, and all it did was feul my desire to get out riding again. If its raining outside and you decide to watch this DVD to pass the time - forget it, you'll soon be riding in the rain. I recommend getting a few mates together one evening, a carton of beer and pizza and just have a great laugh and be gob-smacked! You only need to buy one MTB DVD and this is it... (of course, "Earthed 2" makes a great compliment to it!)

The story takes place over a 24 hour period of time from five different points of view. It's a hip, fast paced whodunnit that revolves around parole officer Gabby White (Ginger Lynn) and her relationship with her police officer fiancé, Michael Pierce (Michael J. Cox) . Each of Gabby's relationships with her friends will change before the end of the film.
