This delightful collection of episodes from The Muppet Show celebrates three British comic giants who rose to fame in the 1960s and early '70s. Peter Sellers is right at home immersing himself in layers of costumes and accents, portraying a gypsy violinist getting heckled by his kin and a sadistic orthopedist (with Hitler mustache) tying patients into knots. (During Kermit's ritual interview with a guest, Sellers says, "I do not exist. I had myself surgically removed.") While actor-musician Dudley Moore's guest shot never quite gets traction--the script is dominated by lame jokes about a music-making machine threatening the jobs of the Muppets' house band--there's a funny jam session featuring Moore on piano in a crumbling set. The John Cleese show is best, with the lanky Monty Python genius outraged about having to work with pigs and refusing to participate in cheesy Wagnerian opera. --Tom Keogh

Awesome Fun.......2005-02-03
The Muppets are a great children's/adult/anyone can watch tv series. People, young and old, enjoy the witty, slapstick humor that is present in all of the episodes. The Talent that Jim Hensen has to perform with all these charachters, as well as the time it takes to put on a great variety show (even if they are muppet charachters) it takes a scheme and technique in order to have everything work well. THis is a great buy and you and your kids will laugh like it was the first time all over again.
A great sell for Sellers alone.......2004-12-22
Cheesy title, I know, but the aforementioned poor audio quality and lack of special features simply don't take away from the biggest selling feature of this DVD: Peter Sellers. I love John Cleese, and Dudley Moore is also talented man, but of the 3 episodes on here, Peter Sellers simply shines. Must be seen.
Another 2 our of 3 Disk.......2004-08-19
It seems that most of the Muppets disks are 2 out of 3 affairs- 2 good or great episodes, and one mediocre one. Sellers and Cleese are fabulous- the Sellers episode alone is worth getting the disk- but the Moore episode is just kind of flat, and his numbers aren't very interesting.
I have not had the disk problems that other reviewers seem to have. The audio on my disks is fine, and they play fine.
It is a shame that there isn't more "bonus material" on these disks, considering the price; they could be great ads for modern Muppet projects.
Great shows, poor quality DVD.......2004-02-03
Since Childhood I have loved the Muppet Show (never missed one!) so I was very excited to start my daughter on the show. The material of Jim Henson can't be matched but I was SO dissappointed with the Quality of the DVD. I can barely get the thing to play, and when it does play there are several skips and digital "mess ups" throughout the DVD. I thought it was just a bad copy so I bought another brand new one only to experience the same problems, next time I'll go back to good ole video!
An excellent DVD.......2003-12-27
I own four Best of the Muppet Show. There's always an episode that you semi liked or just didn't like and the rest were wonderful.
This DVD was all wonderful. The three actors were funny, even Dudley Moore and I'm not too fond of him. Peter Sellers was the best, he is an outstanding comedian who fits in so well with the spirit and humor of the muppets. From being a gypsy to a singing preacher it was great.
John Cleese is always funny, his skit in Pigs in Space as a pirate from the 1600's with a jealous parrot always nagging him as he tries to take over the Swinetrek is a hoot.
Dudley Moore's was the least outrageous but it had it's moments. Especially when the Muppet band was out for blood when Dudley brings in a mechanical music replacment for them. I really enjoy the episode.
This is so worth 5 stars. I will enjoy it a lot.

This formula mystery-thriller is enlivened by the give-and-take chemistry between the tough, phlegmatic Brian Dennehy and the acid-tongued, fast-talking James Woods. Dennehy is an ex-cop turned crime novelist with a string of bestsellers to his credit. He is approached by Woods, who wants him to collaborate on a book about Woods's career as hit man for a prominent businessman, who has always maintained a scrubbed façade of uprightness. Though the plot becomes predictable, this Laurel-and-Hardy pairing yields unexpected treats, as a criminal teaches a former cop a thing or two about police work, not to mention literature. --Marshall Fine

This is ONE of James Woods best performances,he plays a
professional Killer and he is very GOOD at his job.
Early in the movie we see Brian Dennehy as a cop at a bank
getting ready to leave, right before his shift ends however
a group of hold up men with mask's come in. Brian being the
good guy he is tries to do his duty by protecting the $$$
BIG MISTAKE! For James(I rule)Woods is one of the guy's
and injures Brian pretty bad. Now speed things up 10 yrs.
Brian writes books and James is a assasin for $$$.I don't
want to say anymore for you need to see this.I will just
say that James wants to frame his boss and have Brian
write the book, there are alot of good scenes in this
like when James is on the run for desertion and has a hitman
after him,the hitman is in Brians house and James has so much
anger in him for this hitman is after him,and not Brian nor
his 7 yr.old daughter. James confronts the hitman.

Sheesh!.......2007-06-17
Mediocre in it's best moments. Cliche-criven. The, ahem, "plot," is trite, amatuerish, almost juvenile, although there'd probably been more naked females had it been truly juvenile. Perhaps I should say, "faux-profound."
The two stars, Woods and Dennehy, are the ONLY thing decent about this film. Victoria Tennant is wasted (and almost abused) by this director. I wouldn't say avoid, but be prepared to be underwhelmed, based on the bulk of reviews here. You must be a fan of JW or BD, which I am.
Rent, don't buy. After viewing, one finds oneself in a semi-comatose state, possibly drooling, if you weren't careful to arrange yourself before hitting the PLAY button. Brain-numbing, dreery, awful.
A little gem.......2007-03-07
This cracking little thriller features two of Hollywoods most underated actors. James Woods always the 2nd string to better known actors, and Brian Dennehy who is now an award winning stage actor on Broadway.
Without these two actors and the chemistry that develops between them the film wouldn't have worked. Its an interesting story that keeps you guessing where its going (unless you've seen it as many times as I have). The direction by John Flynn is straightforward, and the script by Larry Cohen is pretty sharp. There are a few memorable scenes that will stick with you, and I would say its one of the few films I've seen where it could have been 15 minutes longer.
Woods plays the villian in the film, with Dennehy playing the cop who is now a successful novelist. Something in their past links them together and Woods wants Dennehy to write about it!
If you've managed to miss this film over the last 20 years, its well worth buying, as I have found it certainly holds up to repeated viewings.
Superior B.......2007-01-26
What is a pretty basic plot is strengthened by the evenly matched charisma of Dennehy and Woods; two actors who were as high in Hollywood at that time as they ever got.
Can you say: Collaboration?.......2006-03-07
A killer hitman working his way to the top. A cop turned novelist barely making ends meet. What do they have in common? Murder. James woods is the extremly cool hitman who always works an angle and always has a backup plan. Together, they plan to go after the biggest criminal tycoon . . .by publishing a nonfiction book exposing his true criminal ties. Now, everyone wants them dead, quiet, or at least want that manuscript burnt. Woods definetly plays it cool and collective in this fine, well put together thriller. I particularly like the fact that the cop-turned-author has a hard time convincing himself that this guy is a killer or that the man he wishes to expose is a big criminal with more ties to corruption than anyone else in new york city. This is classic, anti-buddy movie, action at it's best. There are also shocking mysteries finally unearthed in this rare movie. Enjoy!

Product Description
The film kicks off with stock footage of the historic meeting between the two Korean leaders in June 2000, using this real life moment as a springboard for the film's fictional premise that North and South Korea secretly formed an alliance, agreeing to co-produce their very own weapon of mass destruction! But when the two Koreans decide to hand over the warhead to the United States, North Korean military officer Kang Min Gil decides to take matters into his own hands and not only steal the weapon with the help of private soldiers but kidnap the female South Korean scientist who helped creat it as well ! Things get even more difficult for Kang as South Korean Navy Officer Park Jeong Woo is sent by his superiors to capture the rogue soldier and reclaim the weapon. In the midst of a battle on the DMZ, the soldiers are suddenly transported through time thanks to the appearance of a mysterious comet. In a blink of an eye, the soldiers find themselves trapped in the 16th century, a dark time in Korean hystory, which saw its countrymen spending most of their time battling off the advances of foreign invaders. After defeating a band of looters with their high-powered machine guns, the time displaced soldiers are hailed as conquering heroes by the locals. Dubbed 'Heaven's Soldiers" the group ends up meeting Yi Sun Shin, the real life admiral who led Korea to victory against the Japanese. However, the legendary Yi isn't quite what the soldiers expected. Rather than the mythical hero of legend he's thought to be in the present day, the Yi the soldiers encounter is actually a thief and rascal, one who can't even pass the officer's exam! Shocked that their hero could be so lax in his studies, the soldiers give Yi a crash course in military education, all in the hopes he'll fullfill his destiny! But will Yi discover his true calling in time or will he doom both himself and his beloved country?

(2.5 STARS) Back to 1572 in Korea: Entertaining if Not Great Action Film.......2006-10-02
`Heaven's Soldiers' is a South Korean film, a curious mixture of action, comedy, and science fiction. In the year 2005, North Korean soldiers led by a patriotic military officer (Kim Seung-Wu) plan to steal a nuclear weapon that was jointly produced by the South Korea and the North Korea. During the fierce battle of the North Korean soldiers who fight the South Korean soldiers, a huge comet appears in the sky, which transports both of them back to the year 1572. And they find themselves in the middle of another bloody battlefield, among the warriors holding a sword.
The soldiers from the 21st century successfully beat the invading foreign warriors mercilessly killing the people of the country, and are even hailed as `Heaven's Soldiers' by them. While the soldiers from the future try to figure out the way to travel back to their world through time, they find a thief in dirty clothes stealing their guns.
[Yi Sun Shin] The thief turns out young Yi Sun Shin (Park Jung-Hun) before he becomes a national hero. Now you must remember that Yi Sun Shin is one of the most important persons in the history of Korea because he defeated the Japanese navy in 1592 under great disadvantages. What is shocking to these Korean soldiers is, however, this young Yi Sun Shin is far from the image of the great admiral. He was still a weak, selfish, and pampered youth, who needs to learn much more in order to be the hero who is to save their country from the forces of Japanese military.
Like many films from South Korea, the tone of `Heaven's Soldiers' suddenly changes. It is sometimes serious, then comical, and again very serious, and when it is serious, it gets very emotional. The plot itself is not the strongest part; it is full of plot holes, and the comedy sketches (including some familiar jokes) are not what you call refined.
The final battle scenes go on more than 10 minutes, and they are violent and exciting. The film starts with a plot about a nuclear weapon, but that part is nearly forgotten in the middle section of the film, which, quite frankly, seems to drag.
Some part of the film's script may remind you of `Star Trek: First Contact," but you don't find many sci-fi elements here. As in `Shiri' `Heaven's Soldiers' is a fairly good action film with a message about the divided country, and as such it is entertaining.

Enjoy!
