Not worth the paying price!.......2007-09-11
I love working out and when I saw Shaun T's workout dvd's, they look so fun. Usually I do Taebo which I am a big fan of. And Taebo is very intense! I went ahead and ordered the Hip Hop package: Fat Burning Cardio, Ab sculpt, Total Body Burn, Secrets to Flat Abs. First of all, there's only 2 dvds that come in the package and the routines are really short. I guess it's best for beginners. After I was done, I put in Taebo because I didn't feel like I had a workout. Im a mother of 4...just had a baby in July so my energy level is low. Shaun T's workout DVDs were disappointing. I expected to dance more and get a really good workout. My abs weren't even sore the next day. And I paid almost $65 for those 2 DVDs. I bought 5 Taebo DVDs in the past...each workout lasting at least an hour for only $45 bucks!! And Billy Blanks is wonderful! I am so sad that I spent all that money on Shaun T's workout set because it should've been only about $15 or $20 bucks. It was not worth all that money I paid!!!!
The most fun you can have standing up!.......2007-08-29
I teach Pilates several times per week, so my core is pretty strong already. I love working my abs but I needed some more cardio in my life! These workouts are incredibly effective, they worked my core in all new ways, and got my heartrate up for a nice calorie burn.
So far my favorite is the Fat Burning Cardio, that was just plain FUN - I wanted to do it again as soon as I was done! Ab Sculpt was fun and effective and even gave me some new ideas to incorporate into my weekly Pilates classes. I didn't expect too much upper-body toning out of these DVD's, but the Total Body Burn had my arms begging for mercy! I also expected the Last Minute Abs DVD to be nothing more than a lame way for Beachbody to increase my price, but that was HARD - 5 minutes felt like 50!
The greatest thing about all these workouts is Shaun T himself. His instructions are clear and easy-to-follow, his encouragement doesn't feel contrived, and he very clearly enjoys his work. He sure makes me laugh and enjoy myself! No workout can be effective if you don't want to do it, but Shaun T keeps me coming back for more.
As most of the reviewers have noted, this doesn't use "real" hip-hop music. In fact, it doesn't even use real pop music - if you listen to the singers and lyrics, you'll realize that this is actually the royalty-free fake pop sold to aerobics teachers all over the country. SO WHAT? You're not at a real dance party either, you're doing dance-based exercises in your living room.
[...].
I went from size Misses 12/14 to a Juniors 2/4!.......2007-08-11
I love LOVE LOVE Hip Hop Abs, it's a great workout it's fun and not at all too complicated for the average person. It is called Hip Hop Abs but rest assured it's not core Hip Hop the move maybe but the music is pretty pop, in fact the music is remixed so the "hip hop" flavor is secondary to pop/dance. I mean last I checked Pussycat Dolls and Usher were not hard hitting Hip Hop =-) (for of you just not sold he will putting out ROckin' Abs in the Fall!)
But with that said I loved it, and actually have been keeping up with it since April 1 of this year and am proud to say I am wearing a size 2/4 in Juniors (Abercrombie, Aeropstale, Hollister, ect) and 4p in Misses (Ann Taylor, J. Crew, & Bananna Republic). I started at 147lbs and now am a solid muscularly toned 120.
I just can't say enough about it and have gotten over 20 people excited enough to try. I seriously suggest this for anyone who doesn't like working out... because after Shaun T I am sure will love to work out.
Great Workout - but remember the "Big Picture".......2007-08-06
I found these workouts to be fun and very challenging. At first, I could not complete the entire routine. I couldn't believe how fast their feet were moving! After 3 times through one long workout, I can pretty much keep up.
Although the Ab workouts are effective, please keep these points in mind:
1) Getting great "6-Pack" abs cannot be accomplished by just a lot of ab exercises. It also requires an extremely low body fat percentage--roughly 10% for men. Only a small percentage of the male population has such numbers. Observe how little body fat the particpants in the video have. Just a few extra pounts of belly fat will completely obscure the small ab muscles.
2) Achieving low body fat will most likely require significant dietary change. This is needed because poor eating habits can easily counteract the effects of a brisk workout. For instance, one large hamburger, consumed in 10 minutes, totally negates the benefit of a very long workout.
Having said all this, I found the Hip Hop workouts a lot of fun. I'm glad I spent the money.
HIP HOP ALL THE WAY.......2007-07-24
THIS PROGRAM KICKS ABS!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT - GOT MINE FROM QVC. I HAVE NOTICED A DEFINITE SHRINKAGE IN THE WAIST AND EVEN THAT KILLER BRA BULGE AREA HAS SMOOTHED OUT. I WAS SO, SO SKEPTICAL, BUT ONCE I GOT STARTED, I DIDN'T WANT TO STOP. THIS PROGRAM IS ADDICTIVE AND I MISS IT WHEN I DON'T DO IT. SHAUN T. IS FUN AND ENGAGING (AND A DEAD RINGER FOR WILL SMITH I MIGHT ADD). I HAVE MANY DIFFERENT WORKOUTS, BUT THIS IS ONE I GO BACK TO TIME AND TIME AGAIN!

Sled dog Balto may have retired in this second sequel to Balto, but our hero's sense of compassion and keen intellect have not diminished with time. When a new flying machine makes an appearance in the small Alaskan towns of Nome and White Mountain, it looks as if Kodi (Balto's son who is now a sled dog in his own right); the rest of the dog team, and their human Mushers will shortly be stripped of their duties as mail carriers. Refusing to be dismissed without a fight, the dogs and their Mushers challenge pilot Duke to a race and call Balto out of retirement to lead the team. When bad weather causes unexpected problems for the plane, it's up to the wise and courageous Balto to save Duke from certain death. An amusing sub-plot features Boris, a snow goose who's afraid of heights, and Stella, a seductress goose who's bent on winning Boris's affection. Voice talent featured in this 79-minute, animated program includes Sean Astin, Jean Smart, Keith Carradine, Kathy Najimy, and David Paymer. (Ages 3 to 10) --Tami Horiuchi

Customer Reviews:
not bad for a third movie.......2007-03-29
This story is not as spiritual as the second Balto movie. That may reassure some sensitive viewers: no Native American spiritual practices or beliefs are aired/promoted/conveyed. Kodiak, one of Balto's sons, is the center figure that sets the tone of the story when his sled team is challenged to outrace an air plane delivering mail. The goose is back, with a she-goose that is stereotypically Russian femme-fatale. He has problems because he is afraid to fly, and she wants to have a romantic flight...Balto has to help the other dogs rescue the pilot when he becomes lost in a storm. the fighting and social cruelty of "Balto" is missing from this story, but it teaches a few lessons about setting right priorities, being honest in a relationship, and caring for others even if they are disliked. A feel-good movie, definitely child-safe.
Literally an insult to the original.......2007-03-25
The first Balto was great, and I am one of the people who happen to like the second - Wolf Quest. I don't care if 75% of Balto fans say differently, WQ was so much better.
Firstly, it was too 'humanised.' The humans were shoved right in your faces so you lose the feeling of Alaska being 'wild.' Secondly, unlike the original and Wolf Quest, the characters were too underdeveloped, and most of them are annoying. Especially those dog characters, which look like they come from Lady and the Tramp II. Kodi was just a red version of Aleu, except without the sweetness. The film itself had little plot, and was rather tedious. Boris was the only character who kept you from being bored to tears. And Balto 3 lacks what made Balto so special in the first place - the element of wolves. The producers (as well as most reviewers) don't seem to realise this. Here, Balto is referred to as a mere 'dog,' as though you DO need a pedigree to help someone. Yes, I know Balto is part dog and it's nice to see this aspect, but for them not to even mention he is part wolf is a giant insult to the original, as well as stealing away almost all of his personality.
If I were you, I simply skip this and rent Wolf Quest instead. Or, if you didn't like WQ, them simply watch the original for the fortieth time.
Good.......2007-03-16
This DVD was much better than Balto 2. The animation is better and so is the story. But it still doesn't have the quality of the first Balto movie. Should the boys decide to make a Balto 4 they should go back to the animation of the first one and keep the story along the lines of the first and third movies.
Better than Wolf Quest? Puh-leeze!.......2007-01-25
I loved the first Balto film and the second - Wolf Quest. In fact, WQ was my favourite of the series. I am shocked about the way people treat WQ!
WOC (Wings of Change) has better animation than WQ, but the first sequel beat this one by miles.
WOC is not a bad movie (I LOVED that lady goose, so downright hillarious) but it lacked what made Balto so special in the first place - the element of wolves. In this film, he is referred to as a mere 'dog,' not the 'wolfdog' we fell in love with.I forgot that Balto was half-wolf! Most reviewers don't seem to realise this.
If this 'should have been the sequel,' than pigs must fly! Aleu was way more interesting than Kodi; she was wolf-ish, rebellious and naive, like you average teen. Kodi was just boring. The other dogs looked like the dogs from Lady and The Tramp II.
Saying this is better than Wolf Quest (which I suggest you watch instead) is like saying a bowl of watercress soup is more filling than a Christmas turkey. A definate step backwards!
Three times the bark.......2007-01-18
This is the third movie in the hit Balto triology. A word of warning this movie has some mildly intense cartoon action seqeunces in some parts of it that maybe to intense for young kids under the age of ten. In Balto III wings of change young half wolf dog is leding the sleed dogs again. This time it's in a thrilling race to decide who will diliver the mail to Noamo the sleed dogs or the airplane. Your father charaters such as Boris the goose Jenny and those two wacky polar bears are back in this epic movie. Also in this movie are some new characters balto's son Kodo, and a beautiful female goose named Stella. Like the first two balto this movie has increbile characters breath taking adventure seqeunces and beautiful enchanting musical numbers. Will Balto win the race find out in the thrilling conclusion. If you like this I also recommend balto 1 and 2 as well.

Customer Reviews:
Do Not Buy These Videos!.......2007-08-20
I thought the intro package was great, but it went downhill from there. The intro package has a long and short workout. The rest of the videos have only the long workout. In total I have 5 of these videos. They do mix it up with some dance moves, but many, many of the the moves are march-in-place- repetitive. DanceSport LLC customer service is TERRIBLE! It took them 3 tries to get my address corrected. I sent back a duplicate product but they never did give me credit for it. Kept me on hold for up to 30 minutes at a time too when I had to call; and I had to call at least 8 times!
Very Poor Quality.......2007-07-12
This product is terrible. It's hard to understand what the blonde chick is saying, they start dancing and when they want to change a step they dont really let you know they do not do the countdown like any other teaching program, it was very dissapointing. The Music is aweful. Then if you buy it through their own website beware of clicking on products you do not want, there is no remove item buttons, it was insane, I ended up with 3 orders. The only good thins is that they will give you your money back.
Hot core rythms.......2007-07-02
great stuff - will really improve your Latin dancing as well as tighten muscles and lose fat.
LOVE IT.......2007-04-18
I love this workout! With the full workout (about 40 min) it goes by really fast and I'm sweating like crazy half way through. The quick workout (20 min) is really great if you don't have a lot of time. There isn't really any instruction, but at any time you can use the "help" and they will show you how to do the move and then it goes right back to the spot you were at. It did take me a couple of times before I was coordinated with it, but I don't get bored of it and it's fun!
A workout is nothing to complain about.......2007-04-14
The European women aren't near as annoying as the Denise Austin type. Yeah, they're dancers and they're in good shape, but that's to be expected. They could do this blindfolded, with a broken ankle and look better than I do. But that doesn't have to discourage anyone.
I think they teach you just like any other aerobics class. Slow for a couple steps, then to tempo. The steps I've seen aren't outlandish, though some I couldn't do the first time. I'm not coordinated and don't look good doing it. But I also don't have a problem shutting myself in a room and laughing occasionally.
If you want to get a nice workout, that's different than your normal run-of-the-mill at home fitness videos, this is a good option. It's neat how they work the abs into the cardio routine.
I'm not sure if it's worth 45$ though (that's a month subscription to my gym!).
I think some of the bad reviews on the video are just personal frustrations. The video is nicely produced and coreographed. They're good leaders. The music is made to go with the routine perfectly. You can alternate between front and back views. If the "Latin" dvd is too hard, you can try the others. You can skip scenes. And there's an express workout too.

5 Stars is Not Enough.......2007-04-29
Mr Pronnecke died in 2003 at the age of 87 and mankind and Alaska lost a great, gentle man. His 30 plus years of living in isolation at Twin Lakes was a quest rivaling no other, and we should all read the pages of his book One Man's Wilderness and, even then we could not begin to appreciate what he went through. He was a master carpenter of the first order, a very good photographer and a person who loved the great outdoors and gave thanks each and every day of his life to the Man Upstairs who made it all possible.
The Answer........2007-04-17
This DVD follows the daily life of Dick Proeneke as he builds his log cabin in the Alaska Bush. Dick takes his time and does an amazing job on the cabin and is a master craftsman in working with wood, making spoons ,door joints, window frames, etc. He lives delibertly in the moment and enjoys life and his manual labor. He is a gentle man who loves nature and is very spiritual without being religeous, to me he is the essence of Zen ,but he probably has no idea what Zen is. Something in this short little series of clips on this DVD,is almost like medicine. Something that we desparately need in this society of fame chasers, greedy sychophants, capitalist consumers, a quiet little message ,powerful and direct. Dick Proeneke got one up on us...
Excellent.......2007-01-13
This was a gift for my 83 year old uncle who loves nature and walks 4 miles a day and is the healthiest in our family. He happened to see this show on our public tv station and expressed interest...so what a perfect gift this was for him! He loves it!
What a man!!!.......2007-01-12
This movie shows a mans life in the wilderness, and how he built his own house and focused on the simple things in life. It'a absolutley amazing and really touching.
For the Survivalist in All of Us.......2006-11-06
As a child, my father used to take us to see wilderness movies. I'm almost certain now that they were Bob Swerer productions, as they captured my heart almost as deeply as Alone in the Wilderness has.
Who hasn't dreamt of living off the land by one's own hands? Dick Prenneke did it, and by filming his odyssey, he's inspired and delighted scores of generations and has shown us the beauty that lies in our own abilities. One can live vicariously through Dick's experience, but one can also learn to appreciate our shrinking natural resources, and perhaps be inspired to preserve it for future naturalists and survivalists.
I've watched this DVD countless times, and it never ceases to amaze, delight and invigorate the spirit.

Gene Hackman is a career officer assigned a routine mission well beneath him: deliver a prisoner (Tommy Lee Jones) from Europe to the United States. However, the simple assignment becomes a daring cat-and-mouse game played as the last flames of the Cold War are flickering. This is the first of three films that teamed Jones with director Andrew Davis. In 1989 Jones was a wild card: an actor respected but only popping up in grade B fare. After Davis's Under Siege and The Fugitive, Jones was America's favorite gruff character actor, with an Oscar on his mantel. With a weaker script, Davis still creates the same kind of magic here. Hackman is superb as the officer, an action role similar to others that the nearly 60-year-old unexpectedly excelled at (Bat 21, Narrow Margin) during this period. Tight, tense, and with no letup in the third act, The Package is a good gem for a Saturday night flick. --Doug Thomas
Description
From the director of The Fugitive comes a brilliant, explosively entertaining action/thriller featuring powerful performances by OscarÂ(r) winners* Gene Hackman (Unforgiven) andTommy Lee Jones (Men in Black). Featuring a superb supporting cast that includes Dennis Franz ( N.Y.P.D. Blue ), Pam Grier (Jackie Brown) and John Heard (The Pelican Brief), this'top-notch thriller (The Associated Press) really delivers! Sergeant Johnny Gallagher (Hackman) thinks he's been given a routine assignment: to escort a rebellious American soldier (Jones) from Europe to the U.S. for a military court martial. Gallagher soon learns, however, that the assignment is anything but routine, when he uncovers a terrifying military conspiracy. The clock is ticking down to a historic superpower summit, and Gallagher must stop the deadly plot before it's too late...for him and his country. *Gene Hackman: Actor, The French Connection (1971); Supporting Actor, Unforgiven (1992); Tommy Lee Jones: Supporting Actor, The Fugitive (1993)
Customer Reviews:
Well worth seeing.......2007-06-20
This is not The French Connection, but Hackman is, as always, rock solid, and the supporting cast (particularly Tommy Lee Jones) is superb. The plot is improbable, with Russian and U.S. officers conspiring to continue the cold war and the case broken by a sergeant formerly married to a lieutenant colonel, who are basically operating independently against all of the forces that be. Their success (guaranteed in a quintessentially American movie) reaffirms American beliefs concerning independence and integrity while it provides some action/adventure in the process. The canvas is a little large and there are some gaffes and shaky production values, but this is a reliable way to spend a slow evening. It's also nice to see Hackman doing a credible high crawl through rough terrain in snow. He's the man.
Over looked "Gem" shines with Hackman and Jones in command.......2007-03-29
I love this lesser known Action Thriller set in the last days of the cold war. Hackman and Jones are pitch perfect as hero and villain, squareing off after Hackman brings prisoner Tommy Lee back from Germany only to get attacked and Jones escapes. Then the set-ups ,Double crosses, and conspiracy's start. Never a dull moment and both men are at the top of their game.
A Well Done Military Suspense Thriller, With Gene Hackman.......2005-05-20
This movie has always seemed to me to be one of the most efficient, best crafted of its type, the military suspense thriller. And one of the most under-rated, too.
Gene Hackman stars as Sergeant Johnny Gallagher, an Army lifer who finds himself up to his ears in a ruthless conspiracy to assassinate the Soviet leader when the man visits Chicago. Gallagher had been stationed in West Berlin. His squad failed to stop the assassination of a U.S. Army general who had been taking part in a top military meeting in the outskirts of Berlin. Semi-disgraced, he is given the job of escorting an Army sergeant under arrest, the package, to Washington. But he's mugged in the D.C. airport and the prisoner escapes. Then he discovers the photo of the prisoner doesn't match the guy he was escorting. As he tries to find out what's going on, people start getting killed.
This movie works, I think, for several reasons. First, we know what's going on before Gallagher does, so there is the pleasure of watching him figure things out. There is a conspiracy, we realize, involving top U.S. and Soviet generals to sabotage the signing of a nuclear disarmament treaty. This will be done by killing the Soviet leader in Chicago on a visit to sign the treaty. The assassin, Tommy Lee Jones, is being provided by the senior American officers taking part in the plot. Gallagher at first stumbles around, but slowly, using his intelligence and with the help of the few friends he can count on, he begins to put things together. We know where this is going, but the fun is in seeing how Gallagher thinks and then acts. Second, Hackman's performance, as usual, is excellent. Hackman was 59 when he made this movie, but he is every bit believable as a shrewd, action-focused Army sergeant. He's nearly matched by Tommy Lee Jones as the cynical, amused hit man who doesn't respect anyone. Dennis Franz as a tough Chicago cop and John Heard as a ruthless Army colonel both give first-rate performances. Third, Andrew Davis keeps the movie moving quickly, with clues discovered, shoot-outs, near misses, chases. The plot is complicated, but Davis plays fair. Watch the movie again and it still makes sense.
It's interesting to compare this movie or The Fugitive, both by Davis, with an other good movie he directed, Holes. The Package and The Fugitive couldn't be more different than Holes, but all three, in my view, are very well handled. The DVD transfer is very good.
STRONG PERFORMANCES HIGHLIGHT THIS THRILLER.......2005-04-01
Somehow "The Package" seems to have become one of those films that fell through the cracks of the general public interest and has never received the credit it deserves as a top-notch action/thriller. With a cast featuring Gene Hackman and Tommy Lee Jones you have two magnificent, veteran actors who play well off each other throughout. Hackman plays Career soldier Johnny Gallagher assigned to deliver a package from Berlin to the United States. The package just happens to be Thomas Boyette (Jones)who is a military prisoner.
Once returned to the states, Boyette manages to escape and now begins a cat and mouse game as Gallagher races to find the fugitive who turns out to be an assassin with plans on killing a Soviet Leader and breaking the cold war peace process. Boyette uses clever diguises to avoid capture as he plans his kill. Gallagher receives some much needed assistanc in the form of his ex-wife Eileen (Joanna Cassidy) and Dennis Franz playing yet another tough cop as Detective Milan. Pam Grier and John Heard round out the stellar cast.
Director Andrew Davis would direct Tommy Lee Jones in two more thrillers "under Siege" and "The Fugitive" and proves himself quite deft at handling action/thrillers and mixing between the intrigue and gunplay very well. Hackman is just always a joy to watch and brings such beleivability to every role he plays. This is a top-notch thriller!
Pre-packaged thriller cliches.......2004-09-20
Gene Hackman plays a career army man who is duped into transporting a prisoner to the US as part of a complicated assassination scheme in this tired, contrived relic of Cold War paranoia. High ranking military officials on both sides are in cahoots to derail disarmament talks and Hackman, along with ex-wife Joanna Cassidy, are the only ones who can stop them. Stock secondary characters are on hand to provide a piece of needed information or pull our heroes' fat out of the fire and then die on schedule as required by the screenplay so that the viewer can feel the Sense of Danger and Urgency. The twists and turns of the plot are uninvolving and the climax is thoroughly conventional. The talented cast does what it can to elevate the proceedings.

Good Purchase for One or Couple.......2007-06-09
A friend who is a good dancer and salsa teacher recommended these DVD's including the beginner ones. I like them. Produced in the Bay Area the instrucion is 'on 1'. I have been taking lessons 'on 1' in clubs and in a local studio since end of 2006 and I am an intermediate dancer. I thought I would not learn much from the first videos in the series but would only use them to get friends interested and started. In fact I have picked up a bit of styling for basic moves as well as some valuable tips in the first week of just watching. Really I have also picked up some new moves from the beginner videos which surprised me. I have watched once with some friends and we had fun with it and learned together.
Most of my dancing in the clubs has been in the open position, but much of the videos teach from the closed position with many of the turns lead into with an open break. The dancers are very smooth. The first videos go slow but some of the tips with details about hand positions, angles, and connection are helpful. The teachers give many variations of the same move which I appreciate as a lead. The teacher is silly and that keeps it entertaining. I plan to go through the videos by myself and with friends to add to my and our dancing repertoire, especially in the closed postion. I will update this if I can as I spend more time with the videos.
In addition to instruction I liked the history of salsa interview at the end of the first video. The history is not just the music but on the origin of the body movements. Nods are given to Africa, Cuba, Puerto Rico, ballroom dancing in US especially in New York. Additionally there is info on etiquette from the teacher which is either helpful or funny.
The best course ever.......2007-05-19
We've tried several salsa courses, but this is by far the best.
Despite being at intermediate level with other courses, we started from the beginning with this one and we're really glad we did so. In this DVD they really take their time to teach you everything, and we've discovered and understood now many things that are not clear in other courses.
This is a must if you want to learn salsa on your own.
Salsa Crazy 5 CD Set.......2007-03-29
I bought this 5 set CD thinking I could probably skip most of the beginner stuff. I was wrong! I had been taking private lessons for 2 years on and off. The 3 beginner tapes were more than just informative. I had been learning more of a ballroom style, and these tapes have the kind of moves I actually see on the dance floor. I was leery of learning by a CD method because I had checked out a tape from the library and did not feel like I had learned anything. The leader role is well explained in these tapes, from hand position to feet - step by step. And the progression from different leads and moves is very logical and easy to develop upon. There are some places where the instructor misspeaks and says one thing and does another, so the tape could be improved upon - that is a criticism. The 3 CD beginner set might be as far as you want to go, because the intermediate tapes are too advanced for me so far (after a month of having the tapes). I think this is a good way to learn Salsa. My partner did not want to go out and dance with me for 4 years, but when I started learning with these tapes we went out and had a good time on the dance floor for the first time! Thank you Salsa Crazy!

Emphasis on lifestyle, not job or racing.......2006-03-27
This DVD was given to me by someone who thought that, after reading my review of the wonderful film, "Breaking Away," I would like "Red Light Go," a documentary on the bicycle messengers of New York City and the "alleycat" races they run. "Red Light Go" turned out to be a documentary on a topic that is of little interest to me, but I will review it and stick to commenting on its quality.
The documentary introduces a set of alleycat racers, and then rotates through interviews with them, as they comment on their lives, how they got into their current lifestyle, what they think of each other, a little about the bicycle messenger job, and a lot about the "alleycat" races. These races are semi-structured, grueling, urban bicycle races, arranged by some of the participants.
As to the quality of the DVD, first of all, the cinematography is great. The viewer feels like he or she is right there with these alleycat racers, during the races, during their "day jobs" as messengers, and during their social gatherings.
Secondly, the title and the cover image give a very accurate impression of what the documentary is about. At first, I was expecting it to be about bicycle messengers in general. Through the different interviews, it becomes clear to me that the "alleycat racers" are a subset of bicycle messengers, who have developed their own subculture or counter-culture. What sets them apart are some of the same factors that set apart the participants in any "extreme" variation of any sport: pushing the limits, taking risks, and enjoying the thrill of the danger involved. Many of them also dress in ways that clearly identify them as extreme, non-conformist, and counter-culturists.
Thirdly, there is a fair amount of profanity mixed into the interviews, as well as quite a few references to substance abuse. One of the "alleycat" races even involves the participants carrying bags of items that look like illegal drugs, adding the possibility that the police might stop them and they would run the risk of having to explain their way out of drug charges. That is just considered as one more obstacle in the race.
Fourthly, this documentary is much more about the alleycat racers than about the alleycat races. The big Halloween race, following a pentagram-in-a-circle-shaped route through rush-hour traffic in New York City, is shown in pretty good detail, although the traffic and the twindling daylight make it hard to follow the action. Otherwise, the documentary is mainly about the racers and their lives.
Fifthly, even at my height of bicycling involvement, I would not have wanted to be involved in these alleycat races, as the documentary makes two things clear: there is little regard for the safety of the pedestrians and automobile drivers; winning the races has as much to do with being loud and pushy at the checkpoints, as it does with being fast. I loved to ride because I loved the speed and the accomplishment involved in going new places and exploring.
If you are looking for a DVD about bicycle racing, check out "Breaking Away." If you want to learn about what it would be like to be a bicycle messenger in a big city, look elsewhere. But, if you want to find out about the counter-culture that exists among the bicycle messengers who are also alleycat racers, "Red Light Go" is exactly what you're looking for. I learned a lot about this group and the counter-culture they have developed, and the documentary is well-done technically.
Entertaining and well executed documentary!.......2005-11-08
This documentary is a good example of how to assemble a documentary professionally, and use editing to bring the narrative to a thrilling and entertaiing finish. Errol Morris is be the master documentary maker of our time, but anyone who makes them has to figure out a way to bring the narrative to a close, rahter than leave it hanging. This is the most entertaining documentary I've seen this year. It focuses on bike messengers in NYC and the allycat races they put on throughout each year. It is a detailed look into their culture, and gives them a face and identity. Messengers take risks and sometimes have injured pedestrians. This documentary does not try to apologize for that. It is a chance for the messengers to tell their stories and express themselves, and tell the audience how they want to be accepted and appreciated. I actually see them in a whole new light thanks to this DVD. And the final act explaining the annual Haloween race, and the legendary messenger/daredevil Evil E, is thrilling and provides the perfect finale for this film. Shot and edited over 3 years, Red Light Go is a worthy addition to any documentary collection. It is unrated, but does contain mild profanity. But teenagers and adults alike who are either into extreme sports or curious about the lives of messengers should see this.
Courier Rat Races.......2005-09-20
Red Light Go! is the engaging tale of cycle couriers in New York and how they organise alley cat races. Alley cat races are cycle races across an urban environment. It focuses on the riders rather than the action and is all the better for it.
One of the best documentaries I've seen in years, well made and with a real empathy for its subject.
It did make me want to buy a fixie (fixed wheel bike) so beware
Exceedinly well done independant documentary..........2005-06-07
Big cities have a vibe. Sometimes the vibe is the people and sometimes it's the inanimate feeling of its buildings, streets and parks. NYC is both. Red Light Go captures a microcosm of NYC by profiling the people who move envelopes and packages from one side of the city to the other on a bicycle. Bicycle messengers have a mystique unlike any other. They are admired by some and reviled by others. Red Light Go captures this beautifully. In up close and personal interviews with several messengers we learn what makes them tick and how they feel about the challenges they face day to day. It also captures their love of a transportation option for many of us: the bicycle. Yac, Mike Dee, Amy and Squid live their life exactly the way they want, in their city and on their terms. Even if you aren't a bicycle fanatic you will like this movie. Picture a bicycle race on the streets of NYC at evening rush hour with messengers having to ride back and forth across the city six times competing to be first on streets filled with traffic. This is one of several messenger races captured in Red Light Go. It also captures the simplicity of what many of us do five days a week. Work. This independent documentary shares the spirit of NYC and some of the unique people who give it life. Well done with crisp editing. Who needs special effects. Just watch a messenger ride between a transit bus and taxi with inches to spare. I've watched this several times already and have shared with many others. It's that good.

Hubby is sharing this with EVERYONE we know!.......2007-02-06
This is an incredible story that you simply must see if you like the outdoors at all. This guy is amazing and just knowing he did this makes me feel a little bit more like a city girl! You have to see this video at minimum, but the book is also interesting and has quite a bit more detail. My husband has told everyone who will listen about this video and this man's story and has loaned the video out all over town as well! If you are the least bit interested in the out of doors, you MUST see this!
