A hit for my husband's birthday.......2007-08-13
My husband is a big Bruce Lee fan. I bought this collection for his birthday and he loves it. It has all his favorite movies. The DVDs are of great quality.
I thought it was good.......2007-08-05
These DVDs aren't top notch quality, but hey - they allow you to see Bruce Lee kicking butt. The sound is OK. Remember, the original Bruce Lee movies weren't all that great as far as picture and sound quality go either. I would recommend.
Bruce Lee Collection.......2007-07-27
This is a good collection. The quality of the picture and sound are acceptable considering these movies were filmed over 30 years ago and the technology was limited. There are a few times of static or hissing during the dialog and music. The voice over dialog does not always match the closed captioning so it was better to turn off the closed captioning when watching these movies. Overall, this is a good choice.
Great Bruce Lee Collection.......2007-07-12
The Best 5 films from bruce lee at a great price. Original filming remasterized, they look sensational. A great purchase
Good Enough.......2007-04-03
This set is good enough. I mean, how can an old production be made to today's standards without altering the original content. Come on. This and Enter the Dragon is all I need to start with for my collection. Bruce is a legend, and to have a set like this is good enough in my opinion.

Sinewy, sleek, and oozing charisma, Bruce Lee brought sex appeal to the martial arts genre, dominating even the most cliché-riddled adventures with his mix of good-humored geniality and focused intensity. His first film, the low-budget Hong Kong adventure Fists of Fury (as it was titled in the U.S.), is exactly that: a raw, rough-edged revenge drama of a country boy who uncovers a heroin-smuggling ring. Yet the film comes alive when Lee pounces into action, his wiry, well-muscled frame erupting in lightning moves. His follow-up, The Chinese Connection, keeps the revenge theme going for a tale of a kung fu student who avenges his teacher's death at the hands of a Japanese rival. The international success of both films enabled the increasingly ambitious Lee to write and direct his own feature, Return of the Dragon, a more-comic tale of a Chinese country boy who travels to Rome to help out cousins under the thumb of local mobsters. Though filled with excellent martial arts bouts, all choreographed by Lee, the highlight is a death match between Lee and karate champion Chuck Norris in the Roman Colosseum. Lee died before completing his last feature, Game of Death, and a rather unconvincing double runs around much of the film between footage of the real Lee, but the climax features an impressive bout with basketball star and Lee student Kareem Abdul-Jabar. Though a cut above most martial arts movies of the period, these are no masterpieces, but then who watches a Bruce Lee film for the story? In these films, plot is simply there for the scenes between Lee's amazing fight sequences. The documentary Bruce Lee: The Legend completes the collection. --Sean Axmaker
Customer Reviews:
THE MASTER COLLECTION OF BRUCE LEE.......2006-05-16
i bought this set at a used dvd store for $15.00 and was very happy to find it. watching it i was struck by how much talent and energy this man had! had he lived he would have one of the most bankable stars in the world.to be sure these are low buget action movies, but mr. lee brought a style to them that no other actor could have brought, his every move was a graceful and well thought out move, even just walking down the street. these are all the films he made(except for enter the dragon which he made for warner bros.) and he shines in them all,(game of death the movie he was making when he died is very weak and only comes alive when they use the footage of him that was shot) and if you love lee or good kung-fu movies this is one to own
I GOT THIS AT BESTBUY FOR 19.99, GO CHECK IT OUT........2006-03-16
This is easily one of the best investments to my collection, I mean 4/5 of bruce lee's movies, and a documentary.
Now fisrt of all, all of these movies are the original dub and very watchable picture.
Fist of fury(Big Boss)----- very fun movie with bruce beating up a lot of people. The end fight is prettygood because it was so authentic. Pai ying is the man, he is also the action coordinator on this.
Chinese Connection(Fist Of Fury)------ One of the best movies of all time. Great fight scenes(check it out when he takes on the whole gym), great score, great acting, hell, even Lo wei is an actor in this movie, and he is pretty freaking good.
Return of the dragon(enter the dragon) directed by bruce lee, action directed by bruce lee, and starrign bruce lee. Come on bruce, you could have put your name as composer too. This movie kicks ass, better than big boss, but not as good as chinese connection. Everyone knows this is the one where bruce fights chuck norris at the end. And it is everythign it is made out to be, certainly not the best though.
Game of death---this is your classic case of fastforwarding kungfu cinema. The fight scenes are pretty good, but a VERY FORGETTABLE story.
Documentary-------very good doc. that talks a lot about what bruce was planning for game of death(sounds sweet), and what other characters he wa experimenting with for hsi future movies. Can you believe he had a blind swordsman idea in mind for himself. There is a lot of other important info also. 5/5 for the documentary, good for any bruce fan.
So I have seen this at cd tradepost for 14.99, and 19.99 at Best buy, so I don't know where the hell that $38 price comes from.

Product Description
Based on the life of Martial Artsmaster Huo Yuanjia (1868-1910), this biopic is set during the late 1800's to early 1900's, a pivotal period in China's history, when the whole country is shrouded under increasing internal turmoil and the imminent threat of foreign invasion.
Customer Reviews:
Any other version is criminal........2007-03-06
When I originally saw the movie I thought meh, it was o.k. This true version makes any others pale in comparison. You actually get a plot and some valuable words of wisdom. It really is criminal what was done to the other versions of the film. Even the subtitles are superior in this version. Plus it's cheaper in general than the american versions. I bought mine in chinatown for 18 dollars but have seen it for 16 online. Well worth the price. It is region 3 so make sure you have a universal player or just watch it on your computer. What a great story and swan song.
What the "war horse" said,...........2007-03-03
This is much, much better version of the film we were treated(?) to in North American theatres - and it makes that version look like the rushed hachett job it was. It's a real shame that many Americans, even hardcore Jet Li fans, may never see this film the way it was intended to be seen.
Not only has the fight against the Thai boxer, and Michelle Yeoh's bookend scenes as a Chinese diplomat trying to sell the International Olympic Committee on including wu shu in the Olympics been restored, but lots of incidental footage that wasn't in the U.S. theatrical cut, and adds. Combined with the original score that works much better, esp. in the fight scenes where the sound cues interact better with high points in the action, and you have a much, much better movie experience here.
In fact, now that the original whole has been restored, I am sure people will see the film for what it is, less a kung fu movie (despite the convention/cliche-laden plot) and the biopic it was meant to be. In that it's closer to Spike Lee's "X', than memorable, but thematically relatively lightweight productions like "Fist of Legend" (which could function as a kind of sequel to this film) or any of Jet Li's collaborations with Tsui Hark, "Swordsman II", and the "Once Upon a Time in China" movies.
Burn your DVD copies of the North American release and get this instead. And make a spectacle out of it. The distributers of martial arts films in this country have got to learn not to tamper with Asian films. I am sure if this version had been released instead, the critical reviews and word of mouth would have been far better - even attracting those who don't usually go in for the kung fu genre.
Jet Li's best just got better.......2007-01-29
This is now the third DVD of this movie i own. I bought an import before it hit American theaters, I bought the Unrated DVD (which is the same version as the import), and now this. This is the version test screened before theatrical release in China, and it is almost two and a half hours long. They cut about 40 minutes out before releasing it. And i must say that the 40 minutes now added back into the movie make Jet Li's best movie that much better. Best part is, it's not a cheap splicing job. This movie looks like it was supposed to be this way all along.
Some of the more confusing parts of the original release make sense. The story is fleshed out a bit more, and there's a short fight added (which you've probably already seen if you have the American Unrated version and actually watched the deleted scenes). Oh, and Michelle Yeoh's actually in the movie now. If you want to see how this already great movie can become that much better, watch this version. If you haven't already seen this movie, watch this version. Unfortunately you do need a Region 3 or Region Free player. They're not too hard to find online.

Bruce Lee kicked around Hollywood for years looking in vain for an American break when Hong Kong came calling. As Kato in the TV series The Green Hornet he had become an Asian star (the series was renamed for his character when it crossed the Pacific) and ripe for his own vehicle. This raw, low-budget effort, called The Big Boss in its native Hong Kong, is a generic revenge drama enlivened by Lee's intense screen presence and martial arts prowess. He's a country boy who takes a job at a Thailand ice-packing plant and discovers it's a cover for heroin smuggling. Lee is held back through the first half of the film by a promise he made his sweet, gray-haired mom not to brawl (which means you have to wait to see him in action), but his indignation turns to fury as friends and coworkers disappear and the boss sends thugs to take care of the brooding, intense country boy. The final half of the film is a series of violent confrontations, culminating in a marvelously choreographed showdown at the ice plant. Lean, mean Lee, with a physique that looked sculpted in bronze, became an overnight sensation with this film, breaking all Asian box-office records and starting an international kung fu craze, but none of the pretenders ever touched Lee's cool cinematic charisma or his martial arts grace. Lee returned the next year in The Chinese Connection. --Sean Axmaker
Customer Reviews:
A Legend Is Born.......2007-05-17
With charisma to burn Bruce Lee set the Martial Arts film on its ear and forever changed them for the better.
As a young man working at an ice factory that is a front for drug dealing Lee adds his considerable mastery of martial arts and a very good acting ability and lifts this slight story well above average. With graceful moves and almost poetic fight scenes, this let the world know that Bruce Lee was here and here to stay. I have often thought that if he and Sam Peckinpah would have worked together they might have made a true masterpiece. Low budget to be sure, but it's Lee who fills the screen and demands you to over look the small budget and see the grace of his movement. Not his best, but darn close!
Excellent.......2007-01-04
This product was brand new and the picture and sound quality was clear and easy to understand and I look forward to do more business in the future with you and once again, thanks for a job well done and keep up the good work.
The Making of a Legend.......2006-05-06
"Fist of Fury" is a good movie. This is Bruce Lee (starring as Cheng Chao-an) first debut as a fully fledged martial arts star. This is not his best film but it helped to propel him into the super-hero and legend status that he is today and will ever be. He also popularized martial arts worldwide.
The movie is a bit slow at the beginning when Bruce Lee moves from his town to run away from fights and other problems and goes to a small town to live with his cousins. He promises his mother that he will never fight, which is a hard promise to keep in the environment he is living. For example, on his way to his new home, he witnesses a young lady and a kid being harassed and bullied but does not take an active part in the ensuing fight.
Cheng gets a job at a local ice factory. Cheng finds out that the factory is just a front for making drugs. His friends start disappearing mysteriously without trace. The pace of the film picks up when Cheng and his colleagues start investigations into the disappearance of their friends. Fighting erupts and Cheng demonstrates his exceptional martial arts skills.
Among my most memorable scenes includes when Bruce Lee fights the gangsters in the ice factory after someone cuts him and he joins the fight. When he starts to participate in the fight, the end is brief as the gangsters cannot match his outstanding performance. Also the grand finale is when Bruce Lee takes the fight to the Big Boss. The viewer is treated to some remarkable and breathtaking display of martial arts fighting in an open courtyard. Cheng has to fight some fierce dogs and ruthless gangsters and finally the Big Boss himself.
This is a good movie that is well worth watching.
Bruce Lee kicks high in this classic kung fu film.......2005-08-30
Bruce Lee (The Chinese Connection, Game Of Death) plays Cheng, who goes to work at a Ice Packing plant and winds up finding out that there is drugs within the ice itself. Soon, after he becomes the foreman, his relatives go disappearing and he finds out the factory's owners are behind it. So, Lee takes on the vicious Bangkok drug ring vowing to his Mom that he would never use his pyhsical powers again but in this time of crisis, Lee breaks the oath in order to put an end to this once and for all. Classic, classic..and a masterpiece of it's time, Fists Of Fury doesnt start off with Lee in kung fu action, he's laid back until it's time and when ever in this movie he is kicked or flying around....escpecially the last couple of fights within the ice factory and the end fight where Lee waltzs up to the factory's head honcho eating some sort of bread, Lee leaves a sting of a prescene that echoes to this day. All hail Lee, for he is The Legend.
The film that introduced the world to Bruce Lee.......2005-08-23
Fists of Fury is the film that revealed the world an extraordinary, brilliant and lovable Chinese American known as Bruce Lee. The film tells the tale of a simple Chinese farm boy who arrives at an ice packing plant outside of Bangkok, Thailand to work for his uncle. Of course, the local thugs are giving everyone a hard time. However, unlike most of his films, Bruce is initially reserved about using his vicious Jeet Kune Do moves against the bad guys, and his less skilled friend does the majority of the fighting in the first half of the movie. But when Bruce is pushed to the edge.....you had better watch out.
My only disappointment is that the majority of Lee's opponents are chinese kung fu fighters and he never faces anyone using Thailand's own martial art, Muy Thai kickboxing. Thai and Chinese racial relations have never been the warmest so the film production was beset with problems. However, anyone wanting to examine the film career of the amazing Bruce Lee is sure to check out the Fists of Fury.

Not-Bad Bruce Le Movie.......2005-07-14
Bruce Le, the notorious Bruce Lee imitator, made very few movies that were watchable, let alone good. This one, "Ninja Over the Great Wall" (the box calls it "Shaolin Fist of Fury") is one of his best. It's yet another movie in which Le has to fight the occupying Japanese Samurai in China pre-WWII, and there are times when it drags. However, it has some very memorable scenes (like the first ten minutes) and some above-average fighting, particularly in the Great Wall of China climax. It also boasts far higher production values than any other Bruce Le movie. All-in-all, if you only watch one Bruce Le movie in your life, you could do way, way worse than this.
The DVD from Ground Zero's Wu-Tang Clan line has the movie cropped to 1.33:1 (it was probably shot 2.35:1). The image isn't as bad as many budget releases, though - the colours are good and there aren't many scratches. The audio is dubbed, which will either delight or anger you depending on how you feel about dubbing. There are a couple of pretty-good extras, too, including some bonus fight scenes (from other Ground Zero releases) and some martial arts info.

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE, A GOOD OLD-FASHIONED RIP OFF.......2007-06-23
Amazon should ban sellers of this DVD. It looks like someone copied a VHS to DVD. It sounds like James Earl Jones is doing voice overs FOR EVERY CHARACTER, women included. And there are no sound effects during the fights. I almost want to sue the seller, on principle alone.
What a disappointment!.......2007-04-11
DO NOT BUY THIS DVD, IT'S A COMPLETE RIPOFF!
I'm a big fan of Bruce Lee. I thought this double feature would be a good bargain for the price. Well, you really get what you pay for.
The quality of picture and sound is so terrible that you sometimes can't even see or hear the characters. I'm truly surprised that this 'piece of garbage' is still on the market after all this time.
Somebody, please take it OFF! It's an insult to Bruce Lee and his fans.
defective transfer.......2006-06-24
not only does the quality of this dvd suck, the side with the chinese connection runs at about 85% speed, so everyone sounds like james earl jones - even the women.
keeeRAP.
How about zero stars?.......2005-12-16
It's a good thing I only paid $3.00 for this at Goodwill. As everyone says, the quality sucks and the vocal quality in Chinese Connection is inexcusable...Bruce has a voice like lurch. What the hell were the jerks at Madacy thinking? Lee would reach in their rib cages and rip out their hearts!
bruce lee is the man!!!!!.......2003-08-16
while i agree the transfer is not as good as some dvds, it's really not all that bad people, and you get 2 movies for the price of one dvd. i thought this was worth my ten dollars, and you can't deny how good these classics really are. they're not as good as enter the dragon, but they are awesome movies.

Great movies, Bad DVD.......2004-03-03
Buy a better version of these classics, this DVD should be avoided at all costs. If you like the movies, you'll feel insulted by the horrible sound and low quality transfer.
JUNK!!! Need I say more!!! A complete waste of $!!!.......2003-12-30
Sad,Sad,Sad!!! Two great Bruce Lee flicks on two crappy DVD's!!! These look much worse than SLP VHS tapes!!! A complete waste of money!!! Avoid these at all costs!!!BOO!!!
not worth a nickel.......2003-08-11
i found this on sale for $..., what a deal i thought....
i went home and tried very hard to watch these dvds. they were by far the poorest quality dvds i have ever had the displeasure of watching in my life. the sound is awful,, you can actually hear tv commercials being played in the background,, i know it sounds weird, but its true. the picture constantly gets fuzzy, and the color gets weird,,,,, well anyway,, take a vhs and beat the hell out of it then stick it in your vcr and you will have better quality than this dvd.
It is ashame.......2000-06-20
When I purchased my DVD player this Bruce Lee film set was one of my first DVD purchases. What a disappointing waste! I am glad this DVD set wasn't my first exposure to Bruce Lee or his films. If it were, I never would have become as big a fan as I feel that I am. The sound is ludicrous -I mean it is insulting. The picture quality was so bad that at first viewing, I kept cleaning my glasses in dis-belief. I simply couldn't watch this #@*`! Don't waste your money like I did; then again it is your money. And some people don't believe #@*` stinks until they smell it. If you wish to see these truly exciting films I would suggest you try some other format or producer (which ever comes first). I threw this set away -after I vented my disappointment on it with a pair of scissors.
Very poor quality.......2000-03-07
I usually keep every DVD I buy regardless if the movie is good or not, this one was so bad that I promptly returned it the same day i bought it. I couldn't wathch more than 5 minutes. Sound and Picture quality are horrible.

Most kung fu epics succeed or fail on the spectacle of their fight scenes, but Chinese TV movie First of Fury: Sworn Revenge is more engaging because of its rapidly paced story. After his family is murdered by marauding bandits, hot-headed farm boy Chen Jun (Donnie Yen from Iron Monkey and many other Hong Kong action adventures) takes his surviving little sister to the big city of Shanghai, where they get caught up in a web of gangsters, corrupt businessmen, and mysterious women. The mix of historical epic and sheer melodrama, with its dizzying changes of fortune, is like a kung fu version of Charles Dickens. The narrative loses some steam in the second half (of almost four hours), when Chen Jun joins a martial arts school that gets torn apart by envy and pride, but Yen remains engaging and the action comes regularly. --Bret Fetzer

It's Ok, but the whole TV series should have been released instead.......2007-03-19
This is actually an edit of the 25 episode TV series Donnie Yen starred in called Fist of Fury. I wanted to point that out because the previous reviews thinks this is a standalone movie or gives that impression. This is not the case. This is essentially a part 2 to condensing the TV series. Think of the recent 'recap' DVDs put out for shows [most noted, Heroes]. Part 1 is Fist of Fury: Sworn Revenge. I give this 4 out of 5 because the series was a stage for Donnie Yen's range to shine through early in his career as an actor. I recommend this for any recent Donne Yen fan [especially in light of recent films SPL, Dragon Tiger Gate and the upcoming Flashpoint formerly called City With No Mercy] or fans that haven't seen his TV work. The commentary is a nice bonus for fans of hearing how scenes were put together and the ideas for doing what they did. If you can, try to get ahold of the actual full 25 eps. Pretty sure eng subbed versions are really rare.
Extremely Disappointing - Donnie does "Dis" Service.......2006-08-05
Out of all the Huo Yuan Jia and his student Chen Zhen films - this is by far the worst. I am so glad that Donnie has come to be a much better actor - it's a wonder anyone would cast him after this role... bad acting overshadowed his kung fu talent. The saddest part - this movie had a large budget and still couldn't compare to any of the old movies or series. Worse there is NOTHING original about this version - NOTHING. A matter of fact if you have seen the Bruce Lee version you may notice some of the same camera angles!! PS Chen Zhen never had a Japanese girlfriend (in case you were wondering). All I can say, in the words of Chen Zhen (Donnie Yen) "WOOOOOO OOOO WO OW WOO - Stay away!"
An insult to Bruce.......2006-01-16
After Bruce Lee's death, there were a motley crew of imposters trying to jump on the fame band wagon of the "Dragon", there was Bruce Le, Bruce Li and Dragon Le, some were good most were corny, but they were given some note of credibility; to an occidental audience due to the well known actors who worked with them in these films, (this is what made Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Hustle a hit, by using wen Wo Ping as choreographer and veteran actors and real masters like Chiu Chi Liang and Yuen Wah.
The most incredible thing about Bruce Lee is that some of his fight movements had to be slowed down in order to be visible to the audience,
hence shooting scenes were the camera is obviously speeded up cheapens the integrity of the kung fu, such as in this mediocre flik and the overated Iron Monkey.
A TRUE Bruce Lee Tribute.......2005-04-22
I finally got my hands on Donnie Yen's Fist of Fury: Sworn Revenge, which was pushed as a prequel to Bruce Lee's Chinese Connection and his own version of Fist of Fury, and I was breathless behind the storyline, the colorful characters, the Cantonese w/t English subtitles setup(authenticity), the special affects and the action. What we have here is an awesome foundation for the storyline feautured in Bruice Lee's Fist of Fury(Chinese Connection). However, the only reason I gave it a 4 out of 5 was because: (1)to quote another post, it did look more like a day time soap than an actual kung-fu flick, but with all the action, the setup becomes obsolete(lol), (2)Sworn Vengeance is somewhat of a prequel and companion to Bruce Lee's Fist of Fury, but is a much better companion to Donnie Yen's Fist of Fury considering the fact that Yen's FOF features more prior to the death of Chen's master before the famous burial scene(TEACHER! TEACHER!!!), and (3)While I enjoyed the efx, it DID look like they were fast fwd'g the action to make it look like Yen was faster than he was. Nonetheless, we have a REAL, modern day tribute to Bruce Lee's work in Fist of Fury. However, Sworn Vengeance is more of a companion to Yen's FOF than to Lee's...for a TRUE companion to Bruce Lee's Chinese Connection(Fist of Fury) I STRONGLY recommend Bruce Li's Chinese Connection 2(Fist of Fury 2). I also recommend Fist of Legend(Jet Li) which is another modern remake of Fist of Fury, but with a different twist. But to make a long story short...Fist of Fury:Sworn Vengeance + Fist of Fury = SUPERB!!! Bruce Lee would be proud!
fist of fury.......2004-09-11
It;s supposed to be an awesome TV series about Bruce Lee's "Fist of Fury" ( "Chinese Connection" in US) played by Donnie Yen. I saw the whole series on TV. But cramping it into one 2 hour movie?!! it's not easy at all. The story line is still good (of course it's still way far if you compare it with the real 27 series/ episodes) but you can catch the resumed story. Fighting scenes are awesome but I agreed that they fastforward it as about 2-3XX on your DVD. Donnie is fast but not that fast. He was a world Tai Chi Champion. I love him in certain way he's better than Bruce Lee, in other ways, Bruce Lee is much better than him, so he just did that movie coz he appreciate Bruce Lee and Chen Jen legend. It's a tribute to Bruce Lee. Not trying to make a copycat at all. So just enjoy it as the movie itself, don't compare it to Fist of Fury by Bruce Lee (Chinese Connection), Jackie Chan (The New Fist of Fury) or Jet Lee (Fist of Legend). They all have their own positive and negative side.
I just dissapointed with the back cover of this DVD, the show the scenes which is not in the DVD at all. They are the Korean kickboxer and Chen Jen's senior who is jealous to Chen Jen. That was two great fighting scenes in this movie but the just hook me up on the back cover, I didn't find it at all in the movie.
Overall if you don't see the TV series, don't judge Donnie Yen and this movie, this is a pretty good movie. Thanks.
