My 4 year old Hot Wheels car junkie loves these. .......2007-08-08
We are pacing him on these, to get more gift bang-for-the-buck. He loves the first movie, and as you can imagine we've seen it bunches of times. For an adult, it's kinda thin on plot, but there is one. For a little boy that wants to see cars go fast, and likes a good-guy/bad-guy story, it's the bomb!
Real Winner.......2007-06-09
Not only do these movies occupy my children's time, it also got them playing with their hot wheels again. Great faced pace movies with a great story line. What a cliff hanger on The Ultimate Race (#4). Kids can't wait for #5, and don't tell but I can't either!
Entertaining.......2007-05-20
This has provided hours of entertainment for my family, all members. There is some violence, no one dies. Shows teamwork and cooperation. Excellent series.
hot wheels.......2007-05-20
THE MOVIES SET OF 4 WAS A GREAT DEAL, MY SON LOVES THEM. THEY WERE A GOOD PRICE THE MONEY.
Keeps my boys still!.......2007-03-17
These videos entertain my 2 boys ages 5 and 3. I can get my housework done while they watch a video! They pretend to race their imaginary cars while they watch the videos. These DVDs do nothing for my 8 yr old daughter! Sorry they seem to be very BOY!

Love them!.......2007-05-19
My 4-year old son loves the whole Hot Wheels video series. He constantly wants to watch them. If you child is into Hot Wheels, I'm sure they'll love this series.
my kids love all the acceleracer movies!.......2007-03-08
My two boys, 5 & 7 yrs old, are simply obsessed with the acceleracer videos and cars! It started with the World race video, then we ultimately bought all of them, with this movie being the first in the series. I like the movies because they let the boys use their imaginations, there is no violence (except for car crashes, where almost no one ever gets hurt or killed) and the characters are colorful. The boys love to pretend with the cars (I finally bought some on ebay) and there is also a card game which they enjoy - they think it is all so cool, it is too cute!
Hot Again.......2007-01-10
Great follow up to the HotWheels Movie. Characters features have changed a little, but getting used to them is pretty easy. Loving the mystery behind it all, hope it has a stong finish. Mom checked, kid appoved.
My Sons Love It.......2006-05-02
My sons (4-1/2 and 9) each received acceleracer cars for Christmas and they had a 30 minute episode of the movies included with them. The kids seemed to enjoy them. So when I found this movie for an Easter gift I thought the 4-1/2 year old would like it. That is not the case - He Loves It! We talk about this movie day and night. Each of us has our Alias' too. I am Karma Eiss. I am definitely going to buy him the rest of the DVD's. Excellent for boys who love cars. I didn't think the plot line was too much for him either. He understands what is right and what is wrong.
Don't expect the World Race characters to look the same..........2006-03-22
I do like this movie although it was a little intense in the beginning - my son (4) did not care, but my daughter (5) left the room for a bit. I was very disappointed in how they changed the features of Taro Kitano - he looks totally different (okay, I thought he was hot in the World Race DVD), and I know they did it to differentiate between the Teku and the Metal Maniacs, but the rest of the previous characters (Vert, Kurt, Kadeem) at least look similar. There are hints but no detail as to what has happened since the world race event - where is Banjee? (Spoiler - his car is in the swamp realm but where is he?). How did Galorum get the wheel if only humans could? While the Teku drivers look normal, the Metal Maniac drivers are more like caricatures - abnormally large arms and lots of anger. I guess more info will be revealed as the saga continues, but it's a bit confusing....
Description
Before the Internet became the way to connect to the world through a computer, life had already started to move online. Throughout the planet, regular folks were taking their new home computers, connecting them to a modem and a phone line, and starting Bulletin Board Systems, or BBSes. Once numbering in the tens of thousands, these "Dial-up Bulletin Boards" have mostly disappeared and mostly been forgotten... except by the people who lived, loved and worked on them. Director Jason Scott travelled thousands of miles and filmed over 200 people about their stories of the BBS, resulting in this 8 episode, five and a half hour long mini-series. The three DVDs in the set are region free, copy protection free, and Creative Commons licensed. They're also a lot of fun as the various episodes cover different aspects of the BBS Story. Episode titles include BAUD, ARTSCENE, SYSOPS AND USERS, NO CARRIER and MAKE IT PAY. "BBS: The Documentary" covers the era of the BBS, one caller at a time.

amazing! .......2007-06-25
Amazing doc. I loved it.
I wasn't "there" for this stuff, I got my first computer in 1991 and didn't own a computer with a modem until 1996, but this film really put it all into terms I can understand, in the actual words of the people who actually made it happen.
Kudos to the director for this monumental task, and distilling 200 interviews down to something coherent, smart, very watchable, witty, informative and even fun.
Brings back fond memories..........2006-11-12
This wonderfully-made documentary brought back so many great memories of being a sysop years ago, before the Internet put the era of BBSes to an abrupt end. The many thousands of people who have had any experience with the BBS subculture, either running or calling bulletin board systems, would enjoy these very informative DVDs.
Every part of the documentary, from the early days onward, with being a user, a sysop, the competition and emotions, the ANSI artscene sub-subculture, FidoNet, pay BBSes, had been a part of many BBSers lives. It's hard to even find people to talk about this stuff anymore. Without this documentary, much of the history of BBSes would've been simply lost and forgotten.
Of course, not all areas could be fully covered. There are fewer technical details for a more general audience, and there could have been more on the BBS artscene, which didn't just involve ANSI artwork, but synthesized music and animated graphic demos as well. There are probably many more areas that could be covered but would be on a scope that would be too large and general for this documentary.
If you've enjoyed the BBS experience in the past, these DVDs are a must-get. They are worth every penny and parts of it have moved me to tears remembering the good times in our little dial-up communities.
Big and heartfelt, but the content is patchy.......2006-10-29
Jason Scott's independently-produced video documentary is one-of-a-kind and covers a lot of ground, making it a likely must-buy for anyone who wants to learn more about BBSes (or relive the old days when they were popular), but it suffers from a few notable weak spots that limit what could have been a much more enlightening production.
It becomes clear from the first glance at the chapter listing that most of the chapters cover a rather limited amount of territory. There's a segment on the obligatory H/P/A/C scene and a very welcome piece on the artscene (which is actually quite notable simply because it takes a scene that has ALWAYS been underground and places some of its important characters in front of a camera for a proper interview), but given how many hours of material there are here, it's surprising how quickly the material seems to pass, and how little sense of the BBS world has actually been conveyed during viewing.
Far and away the weakest point of this production is its format: It consists primarily of talking-head interviews, where somebody simply sits and talks about things that happened back in the day. While this kind of first-hand testimony is definitely valuable, there's precious little footage of anything actually happening; at the very least, a proper video of someone getting on a computer, dialing up a BBS, and reading a few messages would have been appropriate for those who've never used a BBS. With the exception of the artscene segment, where several actual pieces of ANSI art are shown, there are hardly even any shots of computer screens. It's clear that Jason Scott wanted to focus more on the people of the BBS world than the computers (probably keeping in mind the socialization-oriented folks who aren't all that interested in nuts-and-bolts technology and would have been turned off by too much techie stuff), and this is a welcome perspective that most people have never seen before, but for the seasoned BBS veterans who would have liked to see a little less talk and a bit more action taking place, one can't help feel that this production misses the mark slightly.
Before the Internet was common, there were BBS's.......2006-07-10
BBS's were a forerunner of the Internet in many ways. BBS's were computer systems that would answer incoming calls with a modem. Users would dial in, and leave messages and files for each other. Later BBS systems would allow other, more advanced features, such as online games, chat and email networks that spanned the globe.
Did you spend many countless hours working with technologies such as XMODEM, WWIV, Fidonet, ZMODEM, Tradewars, etc? Buy this set and meet some of the people behind them!
Very enjoyable and very well done.
A wonderful trip down memory lane... .......2006-02-06
...and for some, a great way to reignite neurons that have laid dormant for many many years.
Here are a few questions to ask yourself:
1) Do you remember PC Talk? Qmodem? Procomm?
2) Do you recall companies like Hayes? Racal Vadic? Everex? US Robotics?
3) Can you describe the differences between v.32, v.32bis, and v.32HST? And what was MNP5?
4) Do you remember the great war between ARC & ZIP? Heck, did you ever use SQ.EXE and LBR.EXE before archival tools?
5) Can you explain the differences between Xmodem, Ymodem, Zmodem, & HSLink?
6) What was so special about ANSI.SYS?
7) Did you ever use PCPursuit? Or Wardialers? Or Snatchit? Or a BlueBox?
8) Have you ever picked up a copy of 2600 magazine?
9) Did you ever pick up Assembly language? Do you remember what was so special about INT13?
10) Have you ever connected to any of the following? FIDONET, RBBS, Emulex, PCBoard...
If any of this makes sense to you, you're part of an 31337 club of folks that will 'GET' this DVD set... and you'll 'get' it in a big way. If you own a copy of "Wargames" just 'because'... you'll defintely 'get' this documentary.
This documentary brought up so many happy memories of my adolescence, I found myself welling up with tears during parts of it. If you were the type that woke up in the morning and went straight to your terminal to see, 'What happened while you were asleep', you'll truly enjoy this stroll through memory lane.

A Thriller Attempt.......2006-03-25
Nicely acted Cold War thriller. Colm Feore presents a fine low key villan.
Cartoonish, a bit of fun.......2003-07-16
Much worse than you might expect given such a sterling cast (Olin and Pullman.) Plenty of cheesy stuff with Pullman over the top as tough-guy type trying to protect "bitchy" federal judge from all sorts of bad guys.
Exceptional!!!.......2003-04-28
I'm a huge Bill Pullman fan anyways, but even if I wasn't before, I would be after this film. The urgency and intensity in this film is contagious, and leaves you at the edge of your seat. This film has everything... danger, emotional entanglements, suspense, romance, deception, explosions, and more! If you like action movies, you'll love this one. There are many unique and utterly charming scenes here that will make this film worthwhile for anyone's tastes.
