5 out of 5 stars Babes with guns!.......2007-08-11

Andy Sidaris' drive-in movies of the 1980's and 1990's are, I have to admit, a favorite guilty pleasure of mine. You wouldn't show them at the AFI annual banquet, but while they may be trash, they're entertaining trash put together by a guy who cares about having fun. This set (one of three) contains "Hard Ticket to Hawaii", "Fit to Kill", and the first Sidaris movie I ever saw, "Malibu Express", with shapely blonde B-movie queen Sybil Danning. These films, and the others in the series, are all classics - using the word advisedly :) - of the "girls with guns" genre. Not safe for work, it goes without saying, but get yourself a six-pack and break out the popcorn!

5 out of 5 stars "I do my best thinking in the hot tub.".......2006-04-07

Hey, let's be honest here. Andy Sidaris is not a master filmmaker. But the guy does really care about his films if you listen to the commentary. Sure, there's a lot of unintentional humor and the intentional humor is groaningly not-funny. The stories are silly, the characterizations broad, and the action mostly a bunch of choppy explosion.

But these films are rarely boring. As a diehard Andy Sidaris fan, I love these gems of low-budget cinema. They make me laugh, make me wonder, and just amuse me. It doesn't hurt that Andy has apparently never heard the term "Gratituous Nudity" because there's a lot of it in here.

And that's a good thing.

4 out of 5 stars Long Time Coming.......2006-03-20

It's been a long wait till these movies were available again. The box set is a great idea. These are fun movies that also throw in a helping flash of flesh from some very pretty girls. If your looking for some not so serious good guy vrs. bad guy movies, (James Bond they aren't) and your old enough to watch then these are for you. Any of the Andy Sadaris collectors sets are a good choice, and will probably have you coming back for more. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars andy sidaris knows how to make movies part 1.......2006-01-01

andy sidaris was a cameraman for a.b.c. sports who on his time off would make the best drive-in movies in the world. no deep meaning, just action and some of the hotest women on the planet. malibu express his first is also the least of these films. but hard ticket to hawaii, and fit to kill fall into his james bond style of action and hot girls. like i said no deep meaning but great action and girls. not for the kids but for the kids who never grew up. enjoy this great set (HEE-HEE)!!!!

5 out of 5 stars hard ticket to great entertainment for men........2006-03-24

these andy sidaris movies are the next best thing to the James Bond movies. the difference in these are that they show nudity. i introduced my friend to Hard Ticket to Hawaii which i first saw on video in the 1980s and now he wants to buy all of the Andy Sidaris collection as do i. i have yet to do that but i plan to. this is my favourite andy sidaris picture because of many reasons but one is the design of the rocket launcher in it. it is really cool.
[...]the scenery is beautiful and on this discs there are extras such as an interview with Dona Speir. also andy sidaris, the writer an director plays a small role in the film.

4 out of 5 stars And I Thought Godzilla Movies Were Funny..........2006-02-25

This movie is absolutely hilarious. Perfect for anyone who enjoys awesomely bad movies. There are airplane pilots with numchucks, a diseased snake, a guy with a bazooka and at one point someone is skateboarding with a blow up doll. The lines in this movie are so terrible that you can't help but laugh. This movie is made by a director that categorizes his scenes with bullets, bombs, and babes. If you ever sit around and watch movies with your friends after a few drinks or just love stupid movies, you've got to have this one.

5 out of 5 stars Delightfully Bad.......2004-01-17

How a snake was turned into a super-killer by being infected by "cancer-infested rats", I don't know. What I do know is that anyone with an ironic sense of humor will love this film! The acting, the writing, the stunts, the special effects--all choc full of intentional and unintential laughs. For an extra round of chuckles, be sure to listen to the earnest & not-so-earnest producers' commentary---the interaction between Andy Sidaris and his wife is priceless. If you liked "Showgirls", you will LOVE "Hard Ticket To Hawaii"!

5 out of 5 stars Secret Agent Chicks!.......2002-12-15

"Hard Ticket to Hawaii" is the first of twelve (that's right, count 'em, twelve) Andy Sidaris "Bullets, Bombs and Babes" movies to be released on DVD, and as an introduction to the series it can't be topped. It's absolutely topless!

So, for a good stretch, are Playmates Dona Speir (March 1984) and Hope Marie Carlton (July 1985), who play supersecret agents Donna Hamilton and Taryn Kendall in this absolutely riotous take-off on James Bond. Except that even Bond never took as much off.

Frankly, recent Bond movies with their adrenaline overkill and obligatory explosions owe more to 'Hard Ticket To Hawaii' than it owes to them.

The plot, where it exists, concerns a drug-running ring on the Hawaiian island of Molokai. Donna and Taryn are assigned to stop the evildoers, who are led by a Goldfinger-like leader who delivers contraband in a radio-controlled helicopter (a scale model, not a real one...guess the drug business isn't what it used to be on Molokai).

Somehow, the storyline changes from smuggled drugs to smuggled diamonds along the way, but who cares? Dona and Hope Marie are clearly having a good time on camera, are so appealing (even when they're really trying to act) and the movie is so absurdly funny that anybody looking for a little element like a storyline should have his head examined.

Our secret agent friends spend most of their time either running around 85% naked in khaki jungle short shorts, 90% naked in the jacuzzi, or 95% naked kissing the tanned, buff men in this movie, but they do manage to subdue the bad guys in the end. Somehow.

In the interim, we are treated to such unforgettable lines as "Let's hit the jacuzzi...I do my best thinking there," "I don't want to control your life, I only want to suck the polish off your toes," and "If brains were bird poop you'd have a clean cage."

We also run afoul of a homicidal skateboarder armed with a pistol and a blow-up doll (why?) and a transvestite who is spying on the spies. Plus any number of nubile women, none of them at all foul.

The most memorable acting job of the film belongs to a giant rubber snake (don't be alarmed) who provides an interesting subplot (much more interesting than the plot plot, when you think about it). It seems that the giant rubber snake has been contaminated by ingesting cancer-infested rats, and wreaks havoc on the smiling islanders by ingesting them. By far the most memorable scene concerns the snake's sudden appearance from an exploding toilet, giving rise to the shouldabeenaOscar-winning line, "Just when you thought it was safe to take a..." Well, you know.

Sidaris' light touch is evident in the fact that each chapter of the DVD is listed with a chart indicating whether it contains gunfire, explosions, or bare breasts. Sidaris is strictly tongue-in-cheek. The film contains no full frontal nudity and no adult language, just a lot of innuendo. A lot of it.

The Special Edition DVD also has a chapter of the "Andy Sidaris Film School" in which the Writer/Producer/Director/etc. Sidaris (Mrs. Arlene and Mr. Andy, actually) engage in some very professional technical discussion of filmmaking. Although they'll never be Kubrick, they are serious about making a high-quality film on a shoestring budget, and it shows in their careful and clever filming and their breathtaking location shooting. And they do give some relative unknowns an acting resume, to boot. Anyone interested in how films are made needs to watch this.

Be prepared. "Hard Ticket to Hawaii" is pure, sunshiny enjoyment!

5 out of 5 stars Babes, guns, action!.......2002-05-23

This movie is simply incredible. If you liked Sorority House Massacre II (and I know you did), you will love this movie. It has babes, bazookas, bozos, and an intriguing mystery to boot. OK, the last part is stretching it.

This movie follows two women who work for a charter plane/cargo service in Hawaii. They become targets, or somebody they know becomes targets, or something (who cares) of some Evil Bad Men. Their Boyfriends (the women, not the Bad Men) show up, after flexing and acting like [fools] on their boat for a while. Within a few minutes they encounter a Random Killer doing handstands on a skateboard. The Random Killer makes a second pass and manages to wing one of the Boyfriends, but the other shoots the Random Killer with a rocket launcher. Very cool! Another nice subplot is the Infected Snake (very realistic, let me tell you) who shows up in a sort of surprise ending that left the entire audience stunned.

The director's commentary is pretty cool because it explains some of the scenes that would otherwise make no sense. They still don't make much sense, but the commentary is cool. The video quality is very good, as is the audio. The plot quality is low, as is the acting. There is no shortage of nudity and violence. Excellent all around, if you like this kind of [junk].

A slightly sad note: Andy Sidaris (the genius who directed this), claims to have twelve movies out on DVD, but as of this writing only two are available.

4 out of 5 stars A Six Pack Of Bullets, Bombs And Babes!.......2005-03-02

    MALIBU EXPRESS (1985) - 3 STARS
Written and directed by Andy Sidaris, this early effort puts too much emphasis on comic relief and not enough on the action/adventure aspects of the film. Soap opera actor Darby Hinton stars as Cody Abilene, a private investigator who can't shoot straight, can't act, but is irresistible to women. Surrounded by strong, beautiful women, such as Sybil Danning (Contessa Luciana) and Lynda Wiesmeier (June Khnockers), this movie is more reminiscent of a Russ Meyer film than a James Bond thriller. Fortunately, Darby Hinton didn't appear in any more Andy Sidaris movies.

HARD TICKET TO HAWAII (1987) - 4 STARS
This movie introduces the characters of federal agents Donna Hamilton (Playboy Playmate Dona Speir), Taryn (Playboy Playmate Hope Marie Carlton), and Edy Stark (Playboy Playmate Cynthia Brimhall). Donna and Taryn, whose cover is flying an inter-island cargo plane in Hawaii, accidentally intercept a delivery of diamonds intended for drug lord Seth Romero, played by Rodrigo Obregón. They also accidentally let loose a snake infected by toxic waste, with deadly results. (Watch out for an exploding toilet!) Soap opera star Ronn Moss plays agent Rowdy Abilene, another mimbo (male bimbo) federal agent. The Sidaris formula of combining James Bond movies, Playboy videos and exotic travelogues really starts with this movie.

    PICASSO TRIGGER (1988) - 5 STARS
Donna Hamilton, Taryn and Edy Stark are back, along with double agent Pantera (Playboy Playmate Roberta Vasquez). Picasso Trigger is the name of a tropical fish, a priceless painting, and the code name of Salazar, the villain of this movie. Soap opera star Steve Bond plays agent Travis Abilene, while Rodrigo Obregón plays bad guy Miguel Ortiz. Miguel has Salazar killed in order to consolidate his power, but you can't keep Picasso Trigger down! The action goes from Paris to Dallas to Hawaii to Las Vegas in this tale of double crosses and surprises. The complicated plot and fast pacing make this one of the best of Andy's movies.

    SAVAGE BEACH (1989) - 5 STARS
Donna Hamilton and Taryn team up one last time as federal agents. They receive a call to fly some badly needed vaccine from Molokai to a hospital on another island. On their return flight, a raging storm forces Donna and Taryn to crash land on a remote South Seas island. Gold, which the Japanese had stolen from the Philippines during World War II, just happens to be buried there. At the same time, the U.S. Navy sends a commando unit to the island in search of the gold. Rodrigo Obregón plays Martinez, a representative of the Philippine government who says he wants the gold returned to his country, but really wants the gold for himself. A band of international terrorists, working in conjunction with Martinez, also arrive to turn the remote island into a savage beach!

    GUNS (1990) - 4 STARS
Donna Hamilton (Playboy Playmate Dona Speir) and Nicole Justin (Playboy Playmate Roberta Vasquez) head up the team of L.E.T.H.A.L. (Legion to Ensure Total Harmony And Law) agents. Erik Estrada stars as the villain Juan Degas, also known as Jack of Diamonds. He's a South American gunrunner who uses Hawaii as his base of operations. Juan uses a pair of transvestite hitmen (shades of Ed Wood!) to kill Nicole, but they kill the wrong woman. The action switches to Las Vegas, where Juan utters the immortal line, "A Smith and Wesson beats four aces!" Agents and villains keep getting killed during the course of the film. When Juan has a tough female D.A. kidnapped, who just happens to be Donna Hamilton's mother, he sets in motion the final showdown between himself and Donna.

    ENEMY GOLD (1993) - 3 STARS
This movie was written and directed by Andy's son, Christian Drew Sidaris. Christian isn't as accomplished at making movies as Andy is. His father always favored exotic locales, while Christian filmed most of this movie in the woods. Speaking of woods, most of the actors recite their dialogue in a very wooden manner. To be honest, most of them were hired for their physiques and not their acting skills. Only Rodrigo Obregón as the drug lord Santiago, and Julie Strain as hot hitwoman Jewel Panther, can really act. Most disappointing of all, the obligatory love scenes are kept to a (pardon the pun) bare minimum. Where Andy would linger over the love scenes in great detail, Christian rushes through them as quickly as he can to get back to the story. One can only hope that Christian will overcome his tendency towards prematurely finishing these scenes in his future movies!

Each movie is hosted by Andy Sidaris and Julie Strain, and includes audio commentaries by Andy Sidaris and his wife Arlene, who produced the movies. Also, each movie is followed by an "Andy Sidaris Film School" segment, in which Andy and Arlene show how to film action and love scenes. In addition, there are trailers for each movie, still galleries of exclusive photos for each film, and lots of other extras.
A TOTAL OF 24 STARS, DIVIDED BY SIX MOVIES, EQUALS AN AVERAGE RATING FOR THE FILMS OF 4 STARS.
