interesting propaganda film.......2007-04-09

This film has a promising cast, and a promising idea. Unfortunately, it is not a great film.
Sydney Poitier plays a prison psychiatrist who has been brainwashed by Zionist propaganda. His job in this film is to evaluate a prisoner who he hates. The prisoner (played by Bobby Darin) is a pretty nice guy who tries to make friends with the psychiatrist. But his friendly gestures are rebuffed at every turn.
The psychiatrist even tries to start a fist fight with the prisoner, and seems delighted that the prisoner is eventually hanged for killing a bum.

The main problem with this film is that the prisoner is not a realistic character. He seems like a nice guy. But we're supposed to believe that he is full of hate and is capable of killing a bum? It doesn't make sense. Why would he kill a bum?

This is a two star film. But I'm giving it three stars because it is worth watching if you are studying Zionist propaganda.
Pressure Point came out in 1962, several years before the term "Holocaust" was coined. Nevertheless, the Zionist propaganda in this film is very thick, obvious, and self-explanatory. It is clear that in 1962 Zionists already had a firm grip on Hollywood.

In Pressure Point, there is an outlandish flashback scene where the prisoner goes berserk in a bar. While drunk, he violently takes a couple of hostages and plays tic tac toe on a woman's face. Interestingly, he is never arrested for this incident. The reason he is in prison has nothing to do with him taking hostages in the bar. He is in prison for sedition. But it is never made clear what the specific charges were that he was convicted of.
All we know is that he is eventually released from prison. Then he goes out and kills a bum, which gets him hanged.

Why he decides to kill a bum, we'll never know.

pretty good,but follows the Defiant Ones formula.......2007-03-22

this was one of the early starts in the buddy,buddy type of film. Sidney Poitier is one of the Greatest Actors Ever. he truly does a Great Job in this film as does Bobby Darin. the film has alot of complexity's going on. Darin's negative/hateful vibe mixed with Poitier's straight forward presentation is a interesting mix that doesn't really pick up until a good hour into the film. this film deals with Race, Sex&class. Darin's sidewalk business is interesting with the Young Lady He attracts. when he is telling Poitier his life story that is really intense.but i do feel that the film follows the blue print of what Poitier&Tony Curtis did in 'The Definat ones". seeing Peter Faulk pre "columbo" is a real eye opener as well.

Bobby Darin's best dramatic performance in a worthwhile movie.......2006-01-06

Everyone associated with this movie was brave: Stanley Kramer the producer, Cornfeld the Director, and both stars: Poitier and Darin. I admire the effort and the finished product. The subject matter seems fresh and topical, sadly..., tho' the director's style seems a bit over the top.* And, as others have noted the director should NOT have done the commentary when he could hardly talk.

As also noted by almost every reviewer Bobby Darin was fantastic. Yeah, he really could act. Big time. And I think if he was born nowdays, after Dustin Hoffman and Al Pacino showed that men who look like normal people could become stars, he'd have been a major motion picture star. But he didn't look the part in the early 60's so he had to content himself with being a singing superstar.

Bobby's performance here was subdued yet powerful. Just stunning. He makes his character impossible to dismiss, and therefore all the more thought provoking and, as The Doctor notes, all the more terrifying.

Stanley Kramer wisely opted not to wrap this movie in a happy Hollywood bow, overruling the director by reshooting the ending (with Darin's approval and cooperation) to keep it bleak and realistic. It was a gutsy thing to do and probably lost it a lot of fans and ticket sales, but certainly earned my respect (for what that's worth).

Tho', as a cinematographer the director did have an eye for a good shot, like the one where a (fore)shadow from a window blind string hangs by The Patient/Darin like a noose as he's in a counciling session with The Doctor....

Pressure Point on DVD gets 5 Stars.......2004-09-03

Pressure Point is now available on DVD in Black and White in Widescreen 1.66:1 with Dolby Digital sound. Also, included is the original theatrical trailer. Another quality release from MGM.

great movie, poor commentary.......2004-02-18

i'm not going to go on about the movie as the other reviewers do a good job. it is a great movie, especially if you want to see how conduct disorder begins and becomes an adult antisocial personality. i do want to spend some time talking about the commentary, which is horrible. mr. cornfield provides the commentary and either has throat cancer or some kind of throat disease. he struggles talking and it's painful just to try to listen to him. it's embarrassing and i don't know why it was even recorded and presented. this is not a cut against what he says, but against mgm for even presenting this on dvd. they should of had someone else do the commentary, like some film critic. i still highly recommend the movie as it is a classic, but forget the commentary.

I'm Happy With This.......2000-05-27

This tape is clear and well taught. This is the first time I've tried using pressure points in my sparring. My sparring partner and I use the tape and it has added a new dimension to our sparring. Can't say I'm good at it yet, though. I think that you need to know this stuff if you practice the martial arts. It gives you a great advantage. This tape is easy to follow and practice with.

Important video for self defense.......2000-05-11

Robert Lyons demonstrates using pressure points with another guy. You can see clearly where each point is and how to strike it and also how to combine that with your regular punching and kicking. This tape covers this subject well. You do need a partner for this. Lyons knows his stuff. The video is good quality too. I hadn't been trained in pressure point fighting before so I found this information new and very helpful.

Practical and easy to follow:.......2000-04-19

This video shows how to use pressure points all over the body in self defense, how to reach and strike those points in actual combat and integrate pressure point fighting with other techniques. It can help you fight against larger and stronger attackers. Each technique (which concerns a particular pressure point) is carefully shown on a partner, from several angles and safety points on practicing with another person, are given. These techniques can be very helpful in real situations.

Not A Bad Flick.......2005-02-03

This isn't such a bad flick. I get every Michael madsen flick that they put out and even though I'm a huge fan of his i must say alot of flicks are garbage, but this one is isn't too bad made in Canada for alow budget, and still they mnaged to pull off some cool action scenes, some very cool motorcycle chases, and some very big explosions.

Robert Lyons teaches very well in this DVD. He shows how to strike about 25 pressure points all over the opponent's body and how to reach those points in the midst of the sparring. This allows a weaker person to overcome a stronger opponent. Pressure point techniques are often neglected in martial arts training so this DVD can provide that missing training.
