Deputy Police Chief Brenda Johnson may have put in a year already with the Los Angeles police department, but that doesn't mean the transplanted Southerner fits in yet. In the second season of the TNT drama The Closer, Brenda is less a fish out of water, but she's still not completely at home with her brash colleagues--some of whom resent her potent mixture of brains and beauty. And aside from a couple episodes where viewers are able to correctly guess the ending about 20 minutes into the show, the cases are taut, provocative, and highly watchable. Much of the show's success is due to Kyra Sedgwick (The Woodsman, Something to Talk About), an actress who seemed poised for movie stardom before she took time off to raise a family with husband Kevin Bacon. As bull-headed as she is soft-hearted, Brenda has a wry sense of humor and delivers her punch lines with a gentle drawl. But don't mistake gentility for gullibility: Cross her and you've made an enemy for life. Even when she's stuck in sitcom-like situations--such as trying to hide from her mother that she's living with her boyfriend--Brenda brings believability to her situation. From the first episode (dealing with the investigation of a brutally murdered police officer) to the last (Brenda's attempt to bring down a terrorist organization), Sedgwick is riveting; no wonder, then, that the Golden Globes honored her in 2007 as best actress in a TV drama. Rounding out the cast are J.K. I don't always get to see this show. When I do view it on TV, I just love it. The stories hold up as a good mystery, a good psychological exploration and expanding development of all of the characters populating the squad room. With this set, I can have a "Closer" marathon when it fits my schedule.

The Second Season of the Closer is just as outstanding, and might even surpass its first season in drama, originality and humor. Ms. Sedgwick and the sopporting caste have out done themselves. Bravo! This is a must have for any crime solving junky.

Another Solid Season.......2007-09-01

Last year we wanted to reduce monthly expenses, so we talked about cutting out the premium cable package. When we looked at shows we knew we would miss, we only came up with one: The Closer. I said we could just buy the DVD's for the next season, and I'm sure glad we did. The second season is even better than the first, exploring Brenda's immense charm and manipulation strategies while giving even more insight into her imperfections. We watch many police and detective shows, and the writers of this one always come up with new and interesting crimes to explore. I would highly recommend this DVD set to anyone who enjoys good plots, good characters, and strong women.

I love The Closer so when I saw that the second season was on sale, I had to have it. It did not disappoint. It's great to be able to watch my favorite show uninterrupted by commercials.

Easily one of the best shows on t.v. the second season of the Closer was just as perfect as the first season. The entire cast is excellent. It is almost like a sweet treat watching the team like Provenza and Flynn with their cracks as it to watch Brenda get her suspect to confess. Each epsoide is well acted and well written. Most are serious cases but with a little humor others like Serve and Protect are so funny your laughing through the entire epsoide.

I really love this show. I must admitt that I watched season 2 first. I found season 1 had a little more sex in it than I like , but still very good. Season 2 is my favorite because the story line is more about Brenda and her staff and theie personalilitys which are bigger than life. I also love the dry hummer in this show> I can't waite for season 3 to come out even though I watched it on tv. This is a must for all serious mystery fans.

This weekly drama ,which is filled with biting wit gets high marks for originality. The characters are edgy and real. The stories gritty and humorous. Kyra Sedgewick leads a stellar cast in this cable TV phenom.It is impossible to get enough. Great writing and directing add to the total package.Each episode draws you in and leaves you begging for more.

Brenda Johnson is a fabulously brilliant yet interestingly neurotic police chief from the South who works in LA. If you'd like to watch a quirky leader in action, catch this series.

Having these CD's of the first two seasons is a great way to share the TNT series with family and friends who missed parts.

i absolutely love the closer. kyra sedgwick is an amazing actress, and she brings something special to this character. i can't imagine anyone else other than kyra sedgwic as brenda lee johnson. the rest of the cast is great, as well. there's so much junk on tv that i can't stand, but this show just sucked me in from the first time i saw it. what i really enjoy is the fact that it's not just about "the crime." there's a lot of about the lives of the characters. well...mostly brenda, but she's "the closer." basically, the acting is great, the stories are intriguing, and it's just an amazing show.

Great story lines and phenomenal writing make this the best summer series on tv. Kyra Sedgwick was born for this role. Some people may say her southern accent is too strong, but I find it a delight. Her politeness to her colleagues while delegating assignments is refreshing. She's the best project manager I've seen in a long time. She leaves no stone unturned. The way she eats her sweets and savors every bite is sensual and I look forward to seeing what the writers have in store for Brenda and Fritz. Can't wait for season three to come out on DVD. Great character study! Which one are you?.......2007-09-07

This movie is RAW. If you want a feel good and bubble gum and lollipops type of movie, this is not for you.

This is one of the BEST character studies I have seen in a long time. It's ugly, it's raw, but it's REAL and that could be why some felt so ill at ease. To like this movie is to accept that people really are this selfish and ugly-hearted. This could very well happen and that's what turns your stomach.

By far, Clive Owen owns this movie! You are disgusted by him from beginning to end, but find yourself rooting for him on several occasions, then mad at yourself that you are doing so. But then when you look at the alternative for Anna (Julia Roberts) in Dan (Jude Law), you allow yourself the moral misstep. Dan is quietly selfish and insecure. You realize early on there's an invisible bar that he's set that no one can meet or sustain.

At the end of this movie, you'll ask yourself (in regards to family, friends, and intimate relationships) are you the one setting the unrealistic bar, or are you the one trying to meet one? Are you being yourself while also allowing others to be who they are.

"Alice" was played BRILLIANTLY by Natalie Portman. She had the right balance or tough chick and little-girl-lost. You clearly understood she was someone who wanted to be loved and accepted "as is" flawed and all. Doesn't everyone? She was the only innocent one, so to speak, in the entire quadrangle. She gave her body at the end masking her rejection and hurt. We all know someone whose done this or continues to do this. Although clearly misguided, Alice is the only one who didn't maliciously or selfishly hurt someone she claimed to love.

What makes Larry so remarkable is that he understood they were all flawed INCLUDING HIMSELF, but unlike Dan, accepted it. He knew Anna was a depressive. She didn't have to stay "up" and perfect for him. Larry allowed her to have her blue funks because he knew exactly what made her function comfortably. He was quite content in lifting and supporting her in her art of "photographing sad people beautifully" as Alice said, hitting the Anna nail right on the head. Anna was beautiful to the world, but was sad upon closer inspection. Dan never even realized her condition because it was all about him. Larry understood 'you are what you are,' anything better than that was a great moment. Because he understood this, he knew how to manipulate and orchestrate them all into ultimately getting what he wanted. Dan never got "it" in regard to his relationships because again, it was about him and distracting from his own securities. He had lived and supposedly loved Anna, but didn't really know her - same for "Alice." Any revelations as to who they really were, came from outside sources.

Alice told Larry hidden truths about herself because he was totally open with her - nothing hidden which in turn made her comfortable enough to talk.

Julia gave a great understated performance. She wasn't overly emotional, she didn't rely on her sexuality, she simply existed from moment-to-moment as a depressive does.

I challenge anyone who hated the ugliness of this movie to rewatch it with new eyes.

Wow, what an exhausting movie about some really f**ked up people. Just when you started to root for a character they would do something so base and digusting you would just sit there in shock. The dialoge is great, thanks to this being an acclaimed stage production, the performances are good, Clive Owen the stand out, he was exceptional. Im really not sure id recommend this movie, it's so depressing, and what it says about these four losers is not pretty, but on the other hand the performances are good, the dialoge well written and i liked the fact is is shot on location in London...really up to you, but be prepared to be very frustated, these four are idiots of the highest order and deserve each other, I really hate to think that anyone could be as horrible as any of these four.

Modern Drama.......2007-08-18

It has its flaws of course: the dialogue is exagerrated and serendipity plays an all too prominent role. But this is one of my all time favorite films. The beauty of this film comes from embracing everything it has to offer such as witty euphemisms (of the few it has). But be warned: it is very cut throat and bellicose in its depiction of surreal contemporary relationships. Its not putting on a mask and calling people out on their innocence. In this film, no one is spared the sledge-hammer.

The Worst movie ever.......2007-08-11

This was the most degraded garbage I ever tried to watch I got halfway through and was so disgusted I shreded the disc .
The constant swearing and vulgarity were totaly uncalled for.

A really good pick if you want a slew of good actors and especially Clive Owen. Interesting, kept me from falling asleep, a problem I have now that I have a yound child at home, ha! had some nice dreams after this too, what a plus.

I've only seen about 1/4 of this movie so far, but will update soon. The picture quality on Blu-ray seems good to very good -- not stunning, but decent enough. The image fills up my entire screen with no black bars, which is really great. I will update soon after I'm done watching it.

Ortberg does it again! This is a good series for any small group. The video teaching is good and the production quality is high. It also works well in large group settings (church Sunday school, etc), which is the way I used it. I would recommend it.

The package was a complete one; book, study guide, PowerPoint, & video presentations. I read the book first, then proposed it to my church as a book study, which they enjoyed very well. John Ortberg is a good author and presenter of his materials, challenging common ideas about God with correct biblical ones.

WHO'S TO BLAME.......2005-02-02

One of the underlying themes of this well done made for TV films is what responsibility should a creative person take for the work they create? In this case, a female mystery writer has written two best selling novels about a serial killer named the Gargoyle. Both books have seemingly prompted a copy cat killer to mimic the crimes of her novels. The general populace says the author should be just as guilty as the killer. While this is not something I agree with (I've read several serial killer books and have yet to kill anyone), it makes for an interesting underlying theme, and ultimately, a reason for the murders. Kim Delaney stars as the novelist, who was rendered disabled after her encounter with the first copycat killer. She has secluded herself in an out of the way cabin, and doesn't have much of anything to do with anyone, except her personal assistant, Jenny, and her personal trainer, BJ (a rugged John J. York). When the copycat killings take up again after her second best seller, the FBI moves in, which also includes Delaney's former lover, agent John Grady (Scott Kraft). A sleazy tabloid news anchorman also figures in the plot, and director Fred Gerber keeps us guessing in this suspenseful and well acted chiller.

This movie was much better the first time I saw it, when it was called Copycat with Sigourney Weaver, Holly Hunter and Harry Connick Jr.

Horrible acting by all the supporting characters, too many half-baked and poorly explained threads all over the place, incompetant police and FBI agents/procedure, and not really that hard to figure out who the killer is.

Bringing a degree of disbelief suspension to movies is one thing, but to think that if the FBI and Police from 9 states were so unable to find any suspect, that they wouldn't have run the backgrounds thru on everyone involved with the case is just stupid.

Police aren't that dumb.

And it was kinda funny seeing Kim Delaney who is obsessively paranoid and over-protective of herself all movie long to instantly drop all her wards the moment the movie is about to end and you/we know the killer is about to show up.

Yea that would be the killer who gave himself away halfway thru the movie with his [crummy] acting.
