Gave as a gift.......2007-01-09
To my Kiefer-fan friend, and she gave it good word of mouth.
I LOVE this movie!.......2006-07-30
There isn't much to say about it except that it is all around great. Kiefer Sutherland plays a hard cop who has to begin to believe in the paranormal in order to solve a mystery. The acting is cheesey, as are the special effects, but for some reason this is one of my favorite movies. Anyone who likes any of the following should check it out: ghost stories, the x-files/the outer limits, psychic stories, kiefer sutherland.
Skull Smasher.......2006-06-11
"Eye of the Killer" is an excellent small movie. Kiefer Sutherland is police detective Mickey Hayden in a self-destructive mode since the breakup of his marriage. He chases an albino wino who runs out of a convenience store with his Jack Daniels into a vacant warehouse. Hayden falls through a second-story floor and hits his head which starts him receiving psychic visions of the victims through the eyes of the killer. He meets a parapsychologist, Dr. Vera Swann, played by Polly Walker. Romantic sparks eventually fly between the two, allowing Hayden to start to get over his divorce. He lost his wife to police detective John Hatter played by Gary Hudson who seems to meddle in the investigation, eventually pointing toward his guilt. Henry Czerny who was the thief opposite Harrison Ford in "Clear & Present Danger" and has done "Pink Panther" and "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" plays Harvey, a psychic that attaches himself to Mickey Hayden in a gay bar. Hayden frequents the gay bar because it's a place for a straight guy to be alone. With his partner Ray Coombs played by Ronn Sarosiak, they seek to find the serial killer supposedly responsible for a string of murders. All of the murders eventually are solved and improbably point at the owner of a newspaper who was trying to capitalize on the Jabberwocky serial case to heighten the value of her newspaper so it could be profitably sold. Loren Petersen plays the hapless Alice who we see fall down the stairs several times and get her skull smashed. This little drama that was originally an HBO movie works pretty well as a nouveau film noir. Enjoy!
Silly , Predictable, Amateurish Waste of Time and Money.......2005-08-26
It's obvious that my review differs from the majority, but I emphatically stand by my opinion: this movie was really, really, really lousy.
Keifer Sutherland (whom I generally like a lot...he is why I watched this turkey in the first place) portrays a stone alcoholic, chain-smoking, gravel-voiced, burned out bum of a cop who guzzles gallons of booze and staggers from scene to scene like one of the zombies in Dawn of the Dead. This is his worst performance (that I have ever witnessed) and to make matters even more grim, the entire plot is a confusing, poorly-directed mess. I think that the majority of Keifer's boozing is due to his embarrassment over appearing in this truly wretched movie.
If you insist on viewing this bomb, you will hear the word "Jabberwocky" at least 10,000 times (and come to hate it with a white-hot intensity)....you will see Keifer Sutherland's character drink countless gallons of whiskey (often straight from the quart bottle at his desk in the police station) and smoke at least 9,500 cigarettes (this movie could be used as aversion therapy by A.A. or the American Lung Association)....you will see ghosts, apparitions, and silly psychic flashbacks that are about as convincing and relevant as those in "Sabrina the Teenage Witch". At one point, a character wants to convey the name of the villain to Kiefer in a "psychic vision", so rather than just say the name (which would be way too easy), he lures the villain to appear in a mirror ("through the looking glass")....silly.
The basic premise of this movie resembles the TV series "Medium", in which a psychic can sense details about a crime by touching objects associated with the crime....but the TV show is vastly superior in every respect: acting, plot, direction, and characterization. Also, the only psychic visions that a drunk of this magnitude is likely to see involve elephants....pink ones. This movie would not qualify as a tolerable made-for-TV drama...and that is very, very sad.
There are numerous allusions to "Alice in Wonderland" (the original name of this bomb was "After Alice"): Kiefer starts having his "psychic visions" after falling through a hole, a character is named "Hatter", etc. etc. I assure you that none of this cuteness will add to your viewing pleasure in any way.
So, you can listen to the other reviewers and waste your time and money, or listen to the warning I am offering loud and clear: there is a reason that this movie was never released in theaters...and God knows, it shouldn't be released in your home either. Avoid it....you really don't need to hear the word "Jabberwocky" 10,000 times....do you ????
GO ASK ALICE.......2004-09-13
EYE OF THE KILLER is one of those unexpected surprises you get when you see a movie on DVD you haven't heard of before. Kiefer Sutherland plays a cop who is heavy on booze and genuinely disinterested in his life. His ex-wife is sleeping with his boss, and he's become cynical about law enforcement. While buying a bottle of whiskey, a young kid comes in and snatches the booze, leading Kiefer on a footchase, and ultimately Kiefer falls through an opening in an abandoned warehouse and takes a pretty nasty fall. Later, the kid who stole the bottle is brutally murdered. It seems also that the fall may have awakened some kind of psychic ability in Sutherland, who can see the crimes happening, but not the killer, only the victim. Whose eyes is Kiefer looking through?
Sutherland, who is finally achieving just critical acclaim in his hit TV series 24, is very good in this movie. Henry Czerny as the psychic Harvey does well; Gary Hudson as Kiefer's boss is appropriately egocentric and a pain the (...); and Polly Walker as Vera, the psychic, does well. The movie maintains a tense pace and moody atmosphere, and there is an interesting twist at the end I didn't see coming. Also, I loved the music over the end credits---eerie and haunting.
A very solid film worth seeing.

This 1989 rouser is apocalyptic pulp--the bloodiest, showiest, most shamelessly sentimental specimen of Hong Kong's gangster melodramas. A torch singer named Jennie (Sally Yeh) is accidentally blinded during a slaying in a night club, and Chow Yun-fat's sad-eyed Jeff, a self-lacerating assassin, drags himself out of retirement to take on one last job--rubbing out a major mobster for major bucks--so he can pay for the singer's cornea transplant operation. But Jeff pauses to ferry a wounded child to the hospital during this final outing, and because of this a cop finally gets a good look at him: "He was seen on the job," snarls a saturnine Mr. Big, "and I want him wasted." Armies of thugs converge on the saintly slayer. Some of writer-director John Woo's flourishes are kitsch classics (doves flying upward in a candlelit church), while the action sequences are rapturous. "Life's cheap," a character opines. "It only takes one bullet," but in this case it actually takes about a dozen spewing bullet hits to kill anyone, as soulful triads in mirror shades and duster overcoats blaze away with high-tech weaponry. (A favorite trick involves grasping an enemy by the lapels, pulling him into a waltz embrace, and pumping several slugs into his duodenum.) Danny Lee, Chow's costar in City on Fire, is the intense, young officer who fixates on the killer's contradictory personality. --David Chute

I Believe In Justice.......2007-06-17
John Woo:you either love him or hate him but there is no way of looking at him except as a force of nature. The Killer was one of Woo's greatest Hong Kong features; long before he came to America and made films such as Face/Off and Mission Impossible 2.
Made on a small budget this film is an homage to the classic action directors of Hollywood. There are shades of Peckenpah and of Scorsese. The films grainy look makes it almost perfect for this genre.
The story of a killer with a penchant for justice and loyalty has been done many times before but Chow Yun Fat and Danny Lee make it their own as the killer and the renegade cop who follows him.
Many have complained about the violence in this film. The film is extremely violent but the violence comes off as campy rather than as serious. When you have two men fighting hundreds it is hard to take anything too seriously.
The disc that I reviewed was the Criterion Collection edition. This edition gives a pristine transfer of the film and has a decently subtitled audio. Beware of editions that have any English dubbing since these editions tend to heighten the camp elements of the story rather than give a true translation of the dialogue. Also note that the Criterion Edition is expensive but you get what you pay for. Some of the lower priced editions of this film are known bootlegs that should be avoided.
The disc contains a commentary track by Woo and producer Terrance Chang and five deleted scenes.
If you can find or afford it this is essential viewing for action genre fans and for fans of purist Hong Kong cinema.
One of the greatest of the genre.......2007-06-14
I first got interested in Woo's work after seeing "Broken Arrow" in 1996. I was able to get my hands on a VHS copy of The Kiiler and watched it thinking it would be at least as food as Broken Arrow.
It wasn't.
It was ten times better.
The plot is similar to the Rock Hudson film Magnificent Obsession (although Rock is not an assassin). Chow-Yun Fat is an amazing actor who portrays the title character with great depth and believability.
But let's get down to why everyone REALLY likes this film: The action scenes are AMAZING. When the shooting starts, all hell breaks loose and you'll probably have to watch the scenes in slo-mo or rewind and watch them again. There is so much going on that it's hard to beleive that anyone would be able to choreograph and film such stylistic and hectic battle scenes, but John Woo does just that.
My biggest question is, why aren't Woo's Hollywood films just as wild and stylish. Woo's Hollywood work is very good, but why are his Hong Kong features so much better? They seem to be gritty and real whereas his Hollywood features seem to be glossy and watered down.
No matter. If you like action films, this is one of the best, but be warned. This film is VIOLENT and much of the violence is very graphic, so it's not for everyone.
Also, sometimes the dialogue seems a bit hammy, but I feel that it may be because of the loss of translation when the film was dubbed in English. If you're able to, watch the original Chinese version with English subtitles. I know it's heard to read while your trying to watch the action, so watch the dubbed version a couple of time to where you pretty much know what's happening and then watch it with the subtitles. The original actors' voices convey much more emotion and intensity.
RE-ISSUE!!!!!.......2007-06-09
I don't know much about the secondary "market" for DVD's, but when I look to buy a copy of "The Killer" on amazon, I am filled with disgust. $300.00 for a copy of a !@&%$*@ DVD? It's time that whoever owns the distribution rights to re-issue this film and take control of this situation back from these scalpers.
This comment refers to the "Criterion Collection" version.
What a movie.......2007-03-28
More hong kong action from the greats. You really should see this movie if you're into hong kong action. The shoot outs are great, and the action is incredible. I also really love the story. Also, you can really see alot of John Woo's tradmarks appear in this movie, like the use of dove's and religion. A great movie.
The Killer AMAZING.......2007-02-21
This is the best one of John Woo's movies and has to be seen in widescreen format for the ultimate thrill.
Chow Yun Fat blinds a woman by accident during a shootout and he feels he has to atone which makes this more than just another violent action movie. John Woo gives the movie a psychological side that you don't see too often in this genre.
The action sequences needless to say are some of the best out there.
This is an essential DVD for action lovers.
The criterion version is excellent too.

Body Bags DVD.......2007-08-23
One of John Carpenters movies is always a must-see. I remember watching Body Bags when I was a little kid, and I always wanted to get it on DVD.
John plays a funny coroner in a morgue telling 3 different tales of horror with the usual Carpenter twist.
The first is titled - "The Gas Station".
- A 24 hour gas station hires a new employee to work alone on the graveyard shift. Little does she know a satanic serial killer is on the loose.........
The second is titled - "Hair".
- A man obsessed with searching for the most effective cure for hair loss goes to the extreme to satisfy himself. The message in this tale is, be careful what you wish for.
And third is titled - "The Eye"
- A man loses his eye in an accident, and is left with the decision to replace it with an eye from another donor. Yet maybe finding out who the donor was before would have been smart.
All in all with the three tales and John's humourous performance, this DVD is a great horror classic, that I watch times and times again....
Any horror film fan, that likes the 80's horror films, with horror and humor, should definately buy this DVD.
BodyBags.........2007-04-11
Dear Readers and soon to purchase this DVD customer..
I'm really let down when I pop in the DVD into my DVD player. I was so eager waiting the arrival of this DVD at my home. The cover or the packaging is just like the normal of the others DVDs..
The whole let down of this movie is because there "ARE" "A LOT" of scenes has been deleted or edited.. Thumbs down... I still prefer the LD "Laser Disc" version where the sound and image quality is more superb than this DVD. If anyone just want to get hold of this DVD I'll recommend to purchase it but don't put so much hope on it..Like I did...
The dvd comes in three short movie..first the Gas Station...if without the deleted scenes you can expect more GOre.. secondly is the Hair.. which is my favourite...then lastly is the "the eye".. my dad's fav. Check it out yourself..
this one is a fun movie .......2007-02-14
I remember when I first saw this one, John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper actually rocked on this one. Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame played in one of the segments though I did have a lot of reserves about him as a horror actor. It came to show he was much better of an actor in the horror genre than he was with science fiction, not knocking Star Wars but I've seen him in another Carpenter remake that also was good. The one I liked with him was the one about the eye being of sin, I am not giving the plot completely away now am I? But with that being said -- that was the most fun I've seen in a horror film. It was a TV movie I think, and when I've seen it my parents did have Showtime at the time they showed it.
OK anthology.......2006-04-19
"Body Bags" is three different horror stories in one, all told by "the Coroner" who works at a morgue. (and is played by John Carpenter himself) Basically, think of a cheaper version of "Tales from the Crypt." I don't want to sound accusatory, but there's no getting around the similarities. Half-decomposed being telling us horror stories and all with a dark sense of humor about it - considering this movie came out in 1993 and "Tales from the Crypt" first came on TV in 1989, its not difficult to assume there was at least some inspiration involved.
The first story is involves a girl's first night working at a gas station. Things are all right at first, but eventually things turn ugly - and I do mean ugly. The second story is more tongue-in-cheek, reminding me a lot of John Carpenter's more light-hearted work, and involves a balding man looking into a brand new hair growth formula. The final story involves a baseball player who receives an eye transplant and discovers it used to belong to a serial killer.
"Body Bags" starts out strong, but gets significantly weaker as the movie progresses. The first story was fantastic, setting the mood and keeping the audience hooked from start to finish - any one who has had a job entailing them to work alone will know how the girl feels. I also admit that (unlike other reviewers) I enjoyed the second story, and thought it took a humorous turn at the end. Besides, gotta love David Warner's line on the television commercial. ("Remember: it not only helped me grow my hair, I bought the company.") What I think could have helped the second story stand out more was if the last segment was a bit stronger. All it is in the end is the basic, "Oh no my [insert body part] used to belong to [insert killer name]!" I think it could have been a stronger story if a different route had been taken, like perhaps the victims' spirits were coming back thinking he was the killer. I kept watching it hoping something original would develop, only to find all my predictions come true.
I would watch it for some minor amusement. It's not a classic, but it's a decent lazy watch.
Pretty Cheesy Horror Collection.......2006-03-26
John Carpenter's Body Bags in a series of 3 stories all told by "The Coroner" played by of course John Carpenter (Escape From L.A and New York). First segment is called "The Gas Station" which is the shortest, where a young woman, played by Alex Dratcher (Passenger 57, Scorcher) who starts a new job at the gas station. She is actually going to school for pyschology. She soon becomes a little paranoid on the job and eventually when the night is over it becomes a little bloody. Robert Carradine (Revenge of the Nerds), David Naughton (An American Werewolf In Paris), Wes Craven (Scream Trilogy), Peter Jason (They Live, Red Heat) and Sam Raimi (Evil Dead movies) also star in that segment. The second segment is called "Hair" which is the stupidest one out of the whole bunch which stars Stacy Keach (Escape from LA, Up In Smoke) who plays Richard, a man who doesnt want to be bald. So he goes to doctor David Warner (Titanic, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2) who gives him the stuff to grow his hair back but after Richard gets his hippie hair, things dont seem right. Deborah Harry (BLONDIE) and Sheena Easton (Real Ghosts, Tek War) also star in that segment. The third and final segment called "Eye" which is the best one out of all three and the longest too about baseball player Mark Hammill (Star Wars, The Guyver) who gets in a horrible car accent and eventually loses his eye. Doctors implant him with a brand new eye but what Hamill soon finds out is that the eye itself was the former owner of a sick and murdering individual. Twiggy Lawson (Twiggy, Woundings), Roger Corman (its Roger frickin' Corman people know what hes done) and Charlie Napier (Austin Powers) also star in that segment. "The Mourge" segment also has Tom Arnold (Roseanne) and Tobe Hooper (Funhouse, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) in it as well. Some of the acting and script is very cheesy. Carpenter as the corpse like "Coroner" doesnt do anything original with it because it's bascially we've seen that in Tales From The Crypt and what not. So-so fun is had here.

Horror?...but, in a "funny" way.......2007-04-28
This film is really out there. It has some pretty good effects which i wasn't really looking forward too, so, that surprised me for a low budget film. The acting is wellll...lets just say it has its moments..lol. But, the film has some great funny parts thats for sure. If your into comedy/horror than this film is a great pick up for you other than that, its a rental for sure.
Giant Killer Eye on DVD.......2004-03-23
This is not to be confused with Roger Corman's tribute to B-films, that's The Phantom Eye. Also don't confuse it with Forrest Tucker's alien invasion movie, that's The Crawling Eye. Nope, this one is a collection of bad actors, sets that don't fit together, a script which confuses the sets, and a giant eyeball on a stalk that has a thing for women.
A goofy scientist is trying to view the eighth dimension. His test subject is accidentally infected by something from said dimension. It swells into the giant eye. The eye swarms around an apartment building by using the air vents. Huh? The vents are about four feet by three feet.
The scientist has a wife who tries to bed every male in the film (except Weird Bill) as she wants it all the time. Two male bodybuilders who do heavy drugs and hang out in their underwear are one of her targets. They are also a target for the Eye.
Anyway, the Eye runs around the building feeling up women and blasting people with green rays. Luckily it is sensitive to light. In the end it is cornered (don't know why it couldn't get away) and flees back to its home dimension.
Really bad film. The bodybuilders apartment is a two-story studio with the door on a landing in the top half. The script occasionally calls the lab the attic and the attic the lab. To make it worse, the bodybuilders place has a peaked ceiling with beams (shouldn't that one be at the top?).
So we have a film with a bad script, bad acting (I love Weird Bills fake voice), lots of nudity, strange characters, and a monster eye. It's so bad, what's not to like?
The DVD has no special features except a small group of trailers for other films. There is not even a scene selection option. At least it does have tracks.
Eye From The Eighth Dimension.......2004-03-23
This is not to be confused with Roger Corman's tribute to B-films, that's The Phantom Eye. Also don't confuse it with Forrest Tucker's alien invasion movie, that's The Crawling Eye. Nope, this one is a collection of bad actors, sets that don't fit together, a script which confuses the sets, and a giant eyeball on a stalk that has a thing for women.

Boring!.......2004-03-03
Now I like this kind of movie.....usually.
The reviewer below covers most of it & the two other movies he mentioned - 'Hideous' & 'Head of the Family' - I do like, but unfortunately this one just doesn't have anything going for it.
A giant eye going around, for want of a better phrase, having sex with people does sound like it could be funny....but it isn't. I hate to give a Full Moon movie only two stars beause I'm definitely a fan, but to be honest, this barely deserves one! Come on people, get a grip, this isn't even a good bad movie!
Oh, Where to Begin..........2004-02-15
On the bright side, Jacqueline Lovell looks very good and let's face it, that is the best thing about this truly bad movie. We have "Creepy Bill" doing a really odd impression of Michael Keaton's Beetlejuice throughout this flick (Why? No one knows.), two stoners with great bodies and no acting ability - wait...did I actually use the words "acting ability" within the confines of a review for THIS MOVIE? No, no, no - Lovell is the closest thing to an actor you will find in this thing. As for everyone else...pu-lease. Lovells husband, who married her for her money (With that body? The man is truly a mad scientist!) is conducting experiments into another dimension and brings back through this tiny eyepiece INTO a street kids eyeball, which then emerges out into an enormous killer eye. Kind'a raises the hair on the back of your neck, huh?
And shall we touch upon the amazing special effects? Let us do more than touch. Let us beat them senseless with a baseball bat. Much like the plot they are awful and practically nonexistent.
Would I recommend this movie? Oh yes. While a truly bad movie, it certainly isn't in the same catagory as BEAST OF YUCCA FLATS (truly the WORST movie ever made), but then what is? It will go on my shelf with PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE. For the lovers of insanely mind numbing and fun films, and I'll admit to being one, it is well worth owning.

LOW BUDGET OR HIGH...A MOVIE IS JUST THAT, A MOVIE!!.......2006-06-09
I enjoyed this movie for exactly what it is, "entertainment". At no point before, during of after this film does it imply "true or actual events".
It is far to easy for viewers to get online and downplay, belittle or outright disrespect the efforts of others, while they remain "nobodies" themselves. Until you have walked a mile in someone else's shoes, you should try to be bit more understanding and appreciatvie. Didn't yo mama tell you....If you don't have anything nice to say (or at least not nasty), then don't say anything at all?
Yes! There were parts in this movie that were so far fetched, it was laughable but, there were also aspects of the movies that are commendable. Such as a compelling plot, unexpected twists and a hopeful romantics ending (minus the unbelievable explosive device).
So, when it is all said and done, this movie was an enjoyable watch and I would recommend it to others.
NOT THE BEST MOVIE.......2004-07-22
DUANE MARTIN IS CORNY, FOX CAN NOT ACT, AND JADAKISS SHOULD NEVER EVER THINK ABOUT BEING IN A MOVIE. SO WHY DID I GIVE IT 2 STARS? BECAUSE MEAGAN GOOD IS IN IT AND SHE IS A PERFECT 10. I'D PAY MONEY TO WATCH HER READ A PHONE BOOK.
People should see this movie.......2004-07-22
I am not a big Fan of Duane Martin Nor Ms. Vivica "GHETTO" Fox
but I did really enjoy this movie and I am a tuff critic. It was very low budget and some of the stunts Mr. Martin performs are so not him the acting was just o.k. but the plot of the story was actually keeping me in my seat. I loved the ending and I would recommended this movie for the action, the plot and nothing else. I have to give a shot out to my girl Meagan Good for putting it down and doing her THING YOU GO GIRL.....
It was ok...not that great.......2004-07-05
This movie was alright I mean I expected it not to be good since i've never really heard of it. Duane Martin good actor, but as somebody said before he was tryin to hard to be a thug. Also he was tryin to be like Will Smith a little aint happenin bro. Vivica could have even been better she was still fine in the movie though. All in all this movie was ok, but also like someone else said it is a low budget film. Come to think of it one of the producers or directors acted in the movie. It was the guy who told him about B. Free. Like I said this movie was aight it just should have been more to the action, but in the commentary they said they only had like a week or so to shoot the film thats probably why it wasn't that great. All in All 2 1/2 3 stars.
nice.......2004-07-03
this was such a nice movie. since this movie is very actioned packed.

How to spot a modern British film: it's full of Americans and shot in Canada.......2007-06-19
Considering how woefully misconceived his follow-up Trauma was, it's a surprise to find that Marc Evans' debut, My Little Eye, is actually a pretty good and considerable less self-indulgent little horror that puts a relatively new spin on the Old Dark House/Ten Little Indians genre without doing too much new with it. A slasher movie with a Big Brother spin, the first half-hour is almost as tediously underwhelming as any 'reality' show: while it doesn't entirely convince us that these characters have spent nearly six months living on each other's nerves, it does threaten to try our patience. Yet it gradually becomes more interesting as a series of incidents make the ill-matched housemates wonder whether the internet show's producers are trying to scare them out of a million dollar prize or if there's something much more sinister behind the almost impossible to find and curiously unadvertised website... Around the 70-minute mark there are no real surprises, merely efficient execution, and there is one truly insulting moment of oh-there-may-be-a-killer-in-the-house but-I-think-I'll-sit-down-and-play-this-video-game that's-been-conveniently-left-on with-my-back-turned-to-the-whole-room stupidity that lets it down, but even if the ending is predictable it's just a little bit nastier than expected.
Very enjoyable horror flick.......2007-03-26
This movie has all the elements of a very good horror flick. It has suspense, unknowing, the feeling of being trapped and different personalities that don't really get along. It is a mixture of "reality tv" with big brother watching as well as a good slasher film all rolled into one. I highly recommend this movie to anyone that likes "reality tv" mixed with horror.
If You Ever Wanted To Be On "Big Brother", This Creepy Indie Might Change Your Mind.......2007-01-08
After sampling a lot of high brow films in recent days, I decided to take another look at a film that had thoroughly entertained me (in a much different way) on first viewing. "My Little Eye" is a B-movie thriller that I discovered quite by accident a couple of years ago and went on to purchase. While I will make no claim that this film is great "art," it's creepy and effective--if not altogether logical. Most of the scenes are filmed through "Big Brother" type cameras and it's not always believable from a technological standpoint. But surrendering yourself to the experience, without over-thinking the setup, you might get caught up in a pretty suspenseful little film. Keep in mind, however, that this is a small movie that's more about dialogue and clever scripting to generate a tense mood--as opposed to big effects or thrills.
Five strangers are brought together to a desolate house for a 24/7 webcast. If they stay together for six months, with no one leaving, they will split a million dollar prize. Our young and attractive cast are eager to seek Internet fame and fortune and jump right into the experience. Most of the film takes place during the last week of their adventure as they ready themselves to leave. As supplies get sparse and mysterious things start to happen, the film really does a nice job of building a slow and believable suspense. The characters interact as real people would and their relationships start to sour as they (and we) try to figure out what is happening. This is a psychological set piece, really, but one that becomes more and more ominous as the film progresses. Let's only say that it won't be an easy week!
I enjoyed the way that this film was shot--much of the action takes place on night vision cameras which adds a genuine creepiness to even mundane actions. A lot of other viewers have criticized the actors--and while maybe they aren't all master thespians, I thought they were perfect for this film. Having watched way too many hours of reality TV, I think these kids exemplified the narcissism and selfishness rampant in the medium. It made the proceedings all the more believable, in my opinion.
By the end, we have some scary moments and the resolution is only vaguely defined--just enough to provide superficial closure (once again overlooking some of the technical logic). But I recommend this film, maybe because it was a "discovery". With no expectations, I found the film to be a rewarding experience. I've shown it to friends, as well, with no build up and they've all liked it. Rated on the B-movie scale, this is a 4 star entertainment. Give it a shot if you like this sort of thing, works really well too if you're a reality TV fan. KGHarris, 01/07.
Watch in the dark!.......2005-11-03
Why hadn't I ever heard of this film? "My Little Eye" begs to be seen. It's movies like this that make researching films on the internet all the worth while.
This is an atmospheric, creepy, and effective movie! The less said about this spookfest the better. It has a "Big Brother" (as in the TV show) element to it, except the contestants must stay in the house for 6 months without leaving (except to go out front), and some of the guests have secrets in their past that began to play out in front of them.
The filming, direction, and cinematogrophy of "My Little Eye" are all superb. The angles, split screens, sound effects, and night vision cameras all serve to build up a tense but satisfying conclusion. Cant recommend this one enough if you like to be scared or freaked out.
A wonderful film to watch with the lights off and the volume cranked up.
Highly recommended!
My Little Favorite Movie.......2005-10-14
I love this movie. A friend of mine brought the video of it over and we watched it in the dark. Both of us couldn't take our eyes off the screen. We were shocked when we found out who the killer was.
I ended up buying this for the extra features. They are great.
Buy this movie.

WendyW.......2005-06-19
This movie was unintentionally hilarious. My favorite lines: "Zip me!" by Anna Palk and "Now we are completely cut off from all outside communications." (Of, course you are, dear...You're in a horror movie.) By Derek Fowlds ("Heartbeat", "Yes, Minister). I am a huge Derek Fowlds fan and of course I think he by far the nicest character in the movie.
This movie was just campy enough to be highly entertaining. Although it has some gore and lots of silly nudity (Not from Derek, though--too bad), I quite enjoyed it just because it was so bad.
The early seventies-what a great era.......2004-07-29
Another terrific early seventies creep-fest. With me it's always about mood and atmosphere. This one also has some good gore and of course great bell-bottoms. There is just something about watching this one late at night with the lights off and a beer in your hand. Somehow it just seems perfect.
Trash classic from UK's exploitation heyday.......2003-04-23
TOWER OF EVIL (UK 1972): A group of archaeologists travel to a lighthouse-island off the coast of England where evidence of ancient treasure has recently been unearthed, alongside the corpses of several American teenagers, all of whom were slaughtered by person or persons unknown. Once on the island, the team becomes isolated from the mainland and is stalked by an elusive 'presence' which picks them off one by one.
A trash classic from the heyday of British exploitation, TOWER OF EVIL was helmed by Jim O'Connolly, a talented journeyman whose career had peaked several years earlier with THE VALLEY OF GWANGI (1968), one of Ray Harryhausen's best films. Thrown together on a microscopic budget, and fashioned by O'Connolly from an early script by novelist George Baxt (responsible for such memorable British thrillers as CIRCUS OF HORRORS, THE CITY OF THE DEAD and NIGHT OF THE EAGLE), 'Tower' hedges its commercial bets by emphasizing a couple of high profile cameos (Dennis Price and Anthony Valentine), and foregrounding liberal doses of self-conscious nudity and gore. The opening scenes - in which crusty sea dogs Jack Watson and George Coulouris visit the titular lighthouse and stumble on a series of mutilated corpses - sets the tone for much of what follows, and while the main cast are pretty colorless, their mutual antagonism (borne from a convoluted history of infidelity, too complicated to explain here) demonstrates a rudimentary attempt at characterisation. Mounted with economical grace on sparse but effective studio sets (designed by Disley Jones [THE ITALIAN JOB]), and photographed by veteran cinematographer Desmond Dickinson (a major player in the glory days of British cinema, whose resumé includes everything from Olivier's HAMLET [1948] to THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST [1952], HORRORS OF THE BLACK MUSEUM [1959] and A STUDY IN TERROR [1965]), the film is cheapened at every turn by amateurish dialogue and threadbare visual effects (get a load of the hilarious back-projection during the archaeologists' boat trip to the island!), but it's these very same elements which contribute most to the film's enduring appeal, and the fogbound settings conceal a multitude of budgetary sins. Besides, this unassuming potboiler makes few pretensions to 'Art', and O'Connolly stages the major set-pieces with real technical savvy, culminating in a 'twist' ending which seems to have inspired a similar plot development in Tom De Simone's superior HELL NIGHT (1981).
An ultra-professional cast is toplined by Bryant Haliday (a favorite of producer Richard Gordon), former Broadway actress Jill Haworth (THE HAUNTED HOUSE OF HORROR), Mark Edwards (BLOOD FROM THE MUMMY'S TOMB) and Derek Fowlds (TV's "Yes Minister"), while the younger players include Robin Askwith (several years before he found fame in the 'Confessions' films), former physique model John Hamill (a familiar face in UK exploitation movies of the 1970's, and later a co-writer on Bob Clark's TURK 182!), Candace Glendenning (SATAN'S SLAVE) and the late Anna Palk (in her last screen appearance), all of whom are featured in various stages of undress. The film was originally screened in the US as HORROR ON SNAPE ISLAND, and later reissued as BEYOND THE FOG. Interested viewers should check out Simon Hunter's LIGHTHOUSE (1999), an outstanding British shocker which employs a similar lighthouse setting to much greater effect (it's available in the US in a less-than-optimum DVD presentation under the title DEAD OF NIGHT).
Image's all-region disc - which runs exactly 90m - is letterboxed at 1.85:1, and while picture quality is excellent for a non-anamorphic presentation, voyeurs may be disappointed to discover that the lower matte now conceals some of the nudity evident in previous full-screen versions, but this is how it appeared in theaters, so we can't complain! Sound format is 2.0 mono, and there are no captions or subtitles. The only extra is a UK trailer, which contains a number of spoilers.
"Hello? Anybody home?".......2001-09-20
The year 1972 brought with it an interesting crop of horror films including the good (The Other, Blacula, Tales from the Crypt), the ridiculously bad (Invasion of the Blood Farmers, Al Adamson's Blood of Ghastly Horror), and the absolutely goofy (Night of the Lepus, The Thing with Two Heads). Somewhere in the middle was Tower of Evil (1972) aka Beyond the Fog aka Horror of Snape Island, written and directed by Jim O'Connolly (Berserk!, The Valley of Gwangi). Appearing in the film is Bryant Haliday (Devil Doll), Jill Haworth (It!), Mark Edwards (Blood from the Mummy's Tomb), Anna Palk (The Nightcomers), Derek Fowlds (School for Unclaimed Girls), and Jack Watson (Schizo). Also appearing is Gary Hamilton, John Hamill (Trog), Candace Glendenning (The Flesh and Blood Show), Seretta Wilson (Psychomania), and Robin Askwith (Horror Hospital), probably best known for his character Timothy Lea in the British `Confessions of ...' comedy/softcore films (Confessions of a Window Cleaner, Confessions of a Pop Performer, etc.).
As the film begins we learn there's been an incident at Snape Island, a lonely, dinky, rocky tract of land whose only structures seems to consist of a dilapidated lighthouse and a funky storage shed. Apparently four young Americans (two guys, two girls), on holiday in Europe, ran into a spot of trouble there as three of them ended up butchered, while the fourth, a brunette named Penny (Glendenning), was found nekkid, in a catatonic stupor (the authorities believe Penny, in a crazed fit, killed her friends, but she ain't talking). Anyway, among the remains is found a 3,000 year old, golden Phoenician ceremonial spear, which sets up an expedition party to find out if there are any more treasures on the island. Members of the party include Dan (Fowlds) and his harpy of a wife Nora (Palk), Adam (Edwards), and Rose (Haworth), all of whom are supposedly archeological experts of sorts. Also thrown into the mix is an American named Brent (Haliday), a private investigator hired by Penny's family to determine what really happened that fateful night, along with a stoic fisherman named Hamp (Watson), and his ne'er do well nephew Brom (Hamilton). Upon arriving at the lighthouse there's an ominous sense of gloom and doom, soon followed by the feeling they're not alone on the island (it's suspected by those present there's a network of caves beneath the island, and also someone may be living in them). After a while various misfortunes occur (the boat is destroyed, the shortwave radio gets trashed), and people start turning up dead due to unnatural causes.
While I thought this an fairly entertaining (albeit sleazy and predictable) feature, it sure wasn't without some seriously obvious flaws. I did feel the sets were fun and atmospherically spooky, and I was surprised, given the large number of characters present, how well director O'Connolly managed to keep things relatively in check, but I felt the main weaknesses in both the script and the characters took something away from the production. The script was full of obvious statements, one example being near the beginning as the expedition is traveling by boat towards the island. Once they're about 100 yards from the island, we hear Hemp, who's driving the boat, state `There's the island, straight ahead.'...oh, are you talking about that small mass of land we can all see with perfect clarity, the only bit of land around with the lighthouse that we're headed directly towards? Thanks for the update, Captain...later on in the film we see Hemp and Brom looking for an entrance to the caves beneath the lighthouse and Brom puts his platform shoe through a humongous, gaping crevice in the ground to which afterwards he states, `Hey, we found an entrance to those caves.' Gee, you think so genius? Another thing that really annoyed me was the continuous acts of stupidity on the part of the characters. Often they'd go off alone, or decide to split up from a larger group, just begging to get killed. In one scene, about three quarters in, the two women are left alone in the locked lighthouse while the men go off to do something or other, and one of the women decides to go upstairs to get some rest. Meanwhile, the other female, upon hearing a noise outside, unlocks the door and proceeds to investigate...alone. She discovers something horrifying (the killer doing something in the shed), which causes her to run off and hide. The killer, hearing a noise, comes out to investigate, finds the door to the lighthouse wide open, and proceeds inside and up the stairs finding the other woman in the bedroom...hey, thanks for taking off and leaving the once locked door wide open so that the killer could get inside and attack me you moron! Anyway, the mystery element really isn't all that big of a mystery, but it's still fun to see it unfold. One positive aspect is there's a decent amount of skin, if that's your bag (Jill Haworth is about the only female in the film who doesn't appear sans her clothes at some point). My favorite scene comes early on, as two fishermen, including Hemp, are investigating the island. At one point they go upstairs and find the body of one girl and discover, well, you'll just have to watch to find out the rest. I did learn a lot from this film, including the following...
1. There are no seagulls on Snape Island...never has been, and never will.
2. Fishing folk are used to tragedy.
3. Fishing folk are none too good at hiding the fact they know more than they do.
4. Robin Askwith sounds really funny with dubbed, American voice.
5. Crabs sure do love dead bodies.
6. The lovin' was free and easy, for the most part, in the 1970s.
7. Jazz festivals were the `in' thing for young people in Europe in the 1970s.
8. Nora's a hard b***h who enjoys the rough stuff.
9. Bravery ain't Brom's bag, man.
10. It's probably best not to chuck ignited lamps about when there's flammable paraffin all over the floor.
The picture on this Elite Entertainment DVD, presented in non-anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1), looks very clean, exhibiting only very minor, barely noticeable signs of age, while the audio comes through very clearly. The only extra provided is an original, and effectively entertaining, theatrical trailer for the film. If you're interested in getting this film on DVD, I might suggest checking out a DVD set entitled The British Horror Collection, which contains this film, along with Horror Hospital (1973), Inseminoid (Inseminoid), and Curse of the Voodoo (1965). The first three are fun, but the `Voodoo' one is a real dog.

Passible at best - But it does offer a few scares...........2001-05-31
This film starts off with a BANG by giving us a good premise, excellent atmosphere, good suspense, and a couple of good bloody scenes. But then about half way into the film, it starts to become sluggish, and struggles to keep our interest.
The problem ???? Two fishermen land on a deserted island and find 3 freshly killed bodies amist the grounds of the 'ghostly' lighthouse...They then stumble upon a naked woman, splattered in blood and running through the landscape screaming hysterically with a dagger in her hand. We are then shown a scene in which she is under some heavy psychological testing to try and 'revive' her memory of what happened that night. Flashbacks are used VERY effectivly for these sequences - but she is then left out - half way into the picture !
So all we are left with is a group of about 7 people who travel to the island to investigate the crime scene & look for LOST TREASURE ! WHOOOO-WEEEEE, I just LOVE the 'lost treasure' scriping in films !!! (not to mention the smattering of simulated sex and nudity that is BADLY misplaced in this film).
This movie could have REALLY been something - but it just falls into the same old cleshe about "an insane killer on the loose" plot....Passible - Not really a TERRIBLE movie, but it could have been SO much more.

KILLBORNE ON THE KASE AGAIN.......2005-07-22
Gail Bowen's fictional gumshoe Joanne Kilborne is back on the case again in this entertaining mystery. While not as engrossing as some of the other entries, the film has some good moments and a riveting if somewhat predictable mystery. Wendy Crewson is very good as Kilborne, combining the elements of a true crime fighter with the concerned single parent. Victor Garber is staunchly supportive as her former boss and possible boyfriend. Robin Dunne is appropriately naive as the tv exec who gets called on to the case.
The Kilborne series is mildly reminiscent of the old MURDER SHE WROTE series, giving us well crafted mysteries without too much violence or gore.
