fong sai yuk.......2006-02-28

This has a great acting performance by Mang fei and Kuratu did all he could with the direction he was under , but doees't hold up to his performances in his later years like heroes of the east, legend of a fight4er and fist of legend.

This is "Kung Fu, the Punch of Death," but under another name. The Diamond Entertainment version is probably a little cheaper and has a better quality picture transfer than the Crash Cinema release. See other film reviews under the other name.

USUAL 70S KUNG FU FILM.......2004-07-15

A YOUNG MARTIAL ARTIST [MENG FE] WANTS REVENGE AGAINST THE MARTIAL ARTS MASTERS THAT KILLED HIS FATHER. HAS GOOD FIGHTS AS ALWAYS, BUT THE DUBBING'S BAD AND THE STORY JUST [LIKE MOST MARTIAL ARTS MOVIES FROM THIS TIME PERIOD] GETS TOO THIN. BUT, I'VE SEEN MOVIES THAT'RE 10 TIMES WORSE THAN THIS. AT LEAST IT IS WORTH A WATCH.

NOT BAD..........2004-04-18

This movie was pretty decent. The only drawback to this DVD was the picture quality. If you like to watch your movies full screen (or as close to as possible) and thus utilize the zoom feature on your DVD player then the picture quality becomes very substandard. If not, and you don't mind half your TV screen being black bands then the picture quality is good enough. It just seems as though it was a straight transfer from VHS to DVD!! I guess for $4.99 what else can you expect?

A nice gem to add to your collection.......2002-07-16

This is a nice little movie to add to the collection if you are a fan of the older style martial arts films as I am. Definitely a bargain and not a waste of a few bucks. A similar plot seen before featuring revenge. A guy repeatedly goes after the martial arts masters who pretty much cripple him each time he attacks them. What's weird about this one is you're kinda glad the punk keeps getting his butt kicked and has to be taken home in a wheel barrow. You kinda root for the masters who always let him off by not killing him. He did after all kill a student of the masters. :)

can't emember the other 2 movies on this, but the 2 i can are decent flicks. I got this at cd tradepost for 3.99, so don'y invest much so if you don't like it don't matter.

Kung Fu - The Punch of Death.......2007-05-05

This flick is totally dreadful. Real kung fu fans will not tolerate this garbage. Although it had a decent plot, every fighting scene appeared as if they were sparring with eachother. The flick is not on the level of The Three Evils, The Green Jade Statuette, or The Mystery of Chess Boxing. The fighting was lame - the kicks were lame. A novice would love this one, but to a seasoned Kung Fu fan, this one is totally wack to say the least.

Please don't waste your money on this one. If you want to spend wisely, go with many from Shaw Brothers - (Masked Avengers, The Spearman, etc.). Please see my other reviews so you don't get stuck with worthless kung fu flicks that aren't worth the disc it was copied to.

Decent Kung Fu Fare.......2005-08-18

After a cricket match (no, not of the British kind: this is a fight between two crickets with guys betting on the winner) gives rise to a brawl, Fong Sai Yuk, depicted by Meng Fei, inadvertantly kills the young student of two local masters. In retaliation, the two masters (one is great with his fists, the other with his feet) pay a visit to Sai Yuk's house. Meanwhile Fong happens to be out with his friends getting into martial arts mischief. With Fong's dad killed and his mom beaten in the ensuing mayhem, I needn't tell you that the film falls into the classic revenge plot. In the process Sai Yuk is trained by his mom to avenge the death of his father and to rid the town of the two masters' tyranny. This all leads to a final showdown that is well worth the price of admission for this movie, in which Sai Yuk squares off against the two masters and their sinister father.

The Diamond Entertainment transfer is decent, and I enjoyed the film itself, with its typical revenge plot and training sequences, together with some enjoyable vestiges of comic and romantic relief. Meng Fei, as Fong Sai Yuk, does come across as rather arrogant and perhaps too care-free in light of the grave misdeed for which his character is responsible, though (admittedly, he did commit manslaughter at the outset of the story.) I suppose the loss of his father compensates, in some way, for Fong's general lack of conscience for his senseless violence.

For the street price of about $3-$4, you can do a lot worse in the search for decent kung fu films. 4 stars (****).

I like martial arts movies and glad to have this one to my collection (this movie has 2 titles the other is:prodigal son)
Meng Fei is good fighter if you seen eight drunkerds ...some other good m.a. are: five venoms,return of five venoms,ten tigers of kwantung,master killer,master of violence,mad monkey kung fu,monkey fist floating snake,shaolin vs. lama fist, sleeping fist,thundering mantis,60 second assasin,eagle claw,superpower(Billy Chong),death duel of mantis,7 commandments of kung fu,snake in the monkey shadow,kung fu fever,master of disaster.
