4 out of 5 stars A FEAST FOR THE EYES.......2007-09-12

This collection of very-special effect movies may seem rather crude to the new computer generation, but these were, and are, wonderful adventures
featuring the work of a giant moviemaker: Ray Harryhausen. He brought us magic and fantasy and thrills and wonder, all in beautiful color. The world of movie fantasies owes such an enormous debt to this pioneer!

We don't all have the same preferences for individual titles, but this collection will satisfy every adventure-lover. Don't pass it up!

5 out of 5 stars Ages well........2007-07-26

I enjoyed seeing these films again for nostalgic reasons but, I also shared them with a friend's children and they loved them, too.

4 out of 5 stars A must for the avid fan's.......2007-05-19

Great movie selections, old fashioned camera tricks, if you missed the good old days or just waana relive the memories of your childhood, watching these movies really do remind me of my simple and fun days as a kid.

They're not bad at all, they are classics and worth to be in your DVD collections.

5 out of 5 stars Harryhausen Rules !!.......2007-05-16

It's always fun to watch Ray Harryhausen's films. Stop animation is all but a lost art because of computer graphics. CG is cool too, but there's a nostalgia with stop animation. Save for Tim Burton and the Wallace and Gromit folks, no one is doing it anymore and I think it's so much fun to watch. All of the movies in this Harryhausen set are worth watching. The best one is Jason and the Argonauts. It's also fun seeing that at the end of all the Sinbad movies, two creatures always duke it out while Sinbad and his crew are trying to get away. So grab your popcorn and have a nostalgic movie night with this set!

A skeleton grabs a sword and slashes viciously at Sinbad. A 9-foot-tall Neanderthal man fights to the death with a saber-toothed tiger. All the while, the boys and girls in the fourth row forget about their popcorn and are hypnotized by the images on the screen. It's hard to believe so many years have passed since the last Sinbad movie held kids spellbound at Saturday matinees. The movies were never perfect, with stories that were sometimes little more than frameworks to drape Ray Harryhausen's special effects over. The performances left a bit to be desired at times, and the direction could be a bit choppy. What they did accomplish, however, was to give countless 8- and 10-year-olds their first taste of the magic that motion pictures were really capable of. Those grade-schoolers, of course, took with them an appreciation of that movie mojo that would extend to films like 2001, Star Wars, and countless other movies in the sci-fi and fantasy genres.

Ray Harryhausen was the preeminent special effects wizard in Hollywood for decades. With credits that date back to 1949's King Kong remake Mighty Joe Young, Harryhausen brought his creatures to life with painstaking stop-motion animation, with a realism that no one else's work could touch. Computers now do all the heavy lifting for cinematic special effects, and although the techniques of CGI are often time-consuming and tedious, they can't match the artistry and warmth of a Harryhausen Cyclops or troglodyte creature. Too often it's tempting to see beyond the eyeball-dislodging effects of a CGI dinosaur and picture a technician toiling away in front of a computer. Considering the tedious frame-by-frame repositioning of stop-motion figures, something like the six-armed Kali figure in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad is astonishing in the untold hours of labor that went into giving it life. Even more mind-boggling is the fact that it comes alive with grace and fluidity, without a trace of abruptness or jerkiness.

It's always a good time to revisit the Sinbad series, for all its imperfections and flaws. The movies are still tremendously entertaining escapist fare, still capable of inspiring new generations of budding movie buffs to create imaginary worlds with the magic of movies. --Jerry Renshaw

4 out of 5 stars A Harryhausen hat trick.......2007-07-04

For a little over twenty bucks you get three movies featuring two of the Doctors from Doctor Who, some beautiful women, the son of The Duke, and a whole bunch of creatures conjured up, by Ray Harryhausen with all of the charm and emotion he always brings to his works. And in the end it really is Harryhausens stop-motion magic that makes these films worth watching. I grew up on this sort of stuff, and even after all these years I still get a kick out of them. While most films today shoot for realism, what you get here is a true feeling of fantasy. The scripts are pretty much interchangable, the acting isn't always great, but in the end they manage to rise above their flaws and deliver a whole lot of fun.

5 out of 5 stars Sinbad Collection.......2007-06-27

What a great collection. I bought these to share with my children and they love them.

5 out of 5 stars HARRYHAUSEN TAKES THE TORCH FROM O'BRIEN WITH THESE CLASSICS!.......2007-03-08

If I think of a Cyclops, there is only one that comes to mind(I know there were two in this movie). It is the Cyclops in The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. If I think of a fire breathing Dragon, it is from this great movie I see the definative Dragon! Ray Harryhausen has created so many incredible creatures it is amazing that there are some people out there that just don't know what they are missing. The Golden Voyage of Sinbad is another classic included in this set. The least of the three movies included in this set is Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, it is a good installment showing what a master craftsmen Harryhausen had become! The DVD set has great transfers and some nice extras. This is essential Harryhausen.

SINBAD AND THE EYE OF THE TIGER;is another great movie when Sinbad and his crew helped to crown Prince Kassim to his throne when his step mother Zenobia a witch transformed Kassim into A baboon.I can't help watching it again.Excellent movie.
THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD; thou tha story was good, but the graphics were like a catoon character and if you watch it it"s full of fake characters.Didn't really enjoy it that much

In this last go-round for the Sinbad series, Patrick Wayne plays the legendary sailor. He is betrothed to Farah (Jayne Seymour) and seeks her hand in marriage, but her brother Kassim has been turned into a baboon by the evil Zenobia (Margaret Whiting). Before he can break Zenobia's spell, Sinbad must contend with the Minoton, a bronze statue brought back to life to do her bidding; a trio of flaming skeletons wielding swords; a 9-foot-tall troglodyte; and a saber-toothed tiger. Wayne is the film's weakest point, making a rather wooden Sinbad. Whiting's performance smells strongly of ham, but it's a brand of ham that fits the movie perfectly. As always, though, Harryhausen's work is outstanding. He instills more personality and character into his creatures in this outing, especially for Kassim and his relationship to his sister. The prolonged battle between the troglodyte and saber-toothed tiger is a violent one, generating some real suspense. At times it's difficult to remember that it's not live action with guidance from a director. Though this is an uneven effort for the Sinbad series, it still has its moments. --Jerry Renshaw

3 out of 5 stars Jane Seymour - Nude.......2007-08-30

I like the way the movie flows - my favorite part was of course seeing Jane and the other lady partially nude. This had alot of great special effects -- the movie overall was pretty good. I have watched it more than twice -- more to see Jane nude than anything else... Smile

4 out of 5 stars GREAT SPECIAL EFFECTS , BUT THE WEAKEST IN THE SINBAD TRILOGY!.......2007-07-30

This was Ray Harryhausen's last Sinbad voyage. It is a shame that this didn't turn out the way Ray wanted it to. He never had a big budget for his effect and time was a big factor. Given the circumstances it is a wonderful effort! It is the weakest of the three Sinbad films, but it is still worth owning if your a fan. Ray's effects never get old to me. The DVD transfer is good, but they all deserve better.

4 out of 5 stars Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger.......2007-05-10

Well I have to say I always have enjoyed this movie, it was actually the first Sinbad movie I have ever witness and I was pretty much in awe of it as a kid, watching it on DVD on the widescreen still takes me back to those days, even though it wasn't done with ILM effect standards for me its more about the suspension of belief and going back it a more innocent and certainly less technical time. To redo a Harryhausen movie would be like colorizing black and white classics.

5 out of 5 stars Totally enjoyable SInbad film.......2006-12-02

I really liked this film, I dont see why some dont, it has great stop animation and Patrick Watne was not that bad as Sinbad. This movie still excels in being a great fantasy film. It was a shame this would be the last SInbad film to be released(LIVE ACTION I MEAN). Maybe one day someone will get smart in Hollywood and realize SInabad is a great cvhracter and needs some treatment.

5 out of 5 stars a fond and fun look back for the 35 and older crowd.......2006-06-12

i can still remember getting to go to see this one alone as my parents went to another movie, man was that a big deal to me!
this time out sinbad wants to marry, but his true loves brother is turned into a monkey(hard to a monkey for a womans hand), so off we go to find the cure, with the witch that turned him chaseing after them.
the ray harryhausen f/x's are most of the show and they are great!! sure cgi's look better but this was before we had that and the adventure is first rate. there are a few things that maybe to much for the young(including a nude from the back shot of two women) but otherwise this is great family fun!!

Excellent movie. I saw this movie when it first came out and I still like it as much today as I did then. Plenty of action throughout the movie.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest Movie Ever...EVER!!!.......2006-02-02

Holy crap! This movie blew my mind! Action? TOO MUCH OF IT (almost)! Acting? TRULY OSCAR WORTHY! Theme Song? GREATEST SONG EVER! It's a shame that there aren't more movies out there with "Eye of the Tiger" as the theme song. I honestly believe it would go great with some movie where this guy has to face a huge challenge and he seems like an underdog however in the end, due to his amazing conditioning and training he overcomes his challenges and beats the favorite in a boxing match.

4 out of 5 stars Where's Siegfried and Roy when you need them?.......2007-09-11

Not the best of the "animal attack" movies but not the worst either. The 1973 made for TV film "Maneater" is a much more tense, thrilling film, similar to "The Most Dangerous Game." "Maneater" was never officially released in the U.S. but there are some copies of the foreign release VHS still floating around so try to track one of those down if you can.

The "Maneaters are Loose" villians, two Bengal tigers, are too cute to be threatening in my book. The story is still interesting, just not scary. It's always good to see Tom Skerritt, he's a pretty good actor and nice eye candy for us ladies.

I think that fans of made for television movies from the 1970s and 1980s should start a campaign to get more of these films released onto DVD. There are a lot of gems out there still waiting for official releases.

1 out of 5 stars Unless you REALLY have to see this movie............2007-08-19

First of all, let me say, this is NOT a review of the movie itself, but of the DVD release. Unless you are a die hard fan and you absolutely and positively HAVE to see this movie, DO NOT buy this DVD. It is a horrible and completely awful bad video transfer, almost to the point of being unwatchable. In most scenes, it's hard to distiguish the actors from one another. It looks like it was copied from a bad SLP video that had already been watched about 1000 times. It's really a shame, as the movie itself is a classic '70's made-for-tv film, with many of the stars of the day (Harry Morgan, Steve Forrest). Hopefully someone will put out a decent and watchable version of this film in the future. Until that day comes, I would steer clear of this release.

4 out of 5 stars Eye Candy does it again.......2007-03-08

I just wanted to refute the comment made about this DVD. First of all, if you are expecting to see smut, you can order something from a porn site. This DVD is showcasing beautiful women in beautiful environments. If you are a photographer, such as myself, you can appreciate what EyeCandy consistently brings to the table. I recommend this DVD hands down if you like women. LOL

It's sexy, but very tasteful.

1 out of 5 stars do not buy this dvd if you expect nudity.......2007-03-05

let me first say this dvd is a waste of film and money it is pure rubbish, i could of made a better steamier dvd that would melt your dvd player and keep some very erotic memories in your head for years. The people who made this dvd did not use the full potential it had to showcase these beautifull women in all their glory. dont buy this if you expect to see some skin you simply will never see it.
