Description

This is the true story of America's first famous serial killer. Everyone in small Plainfield, Wisconsin thought Ed was just a little different, a local oddity. But Ed was tormented and haunted by years of family abuse and repression which led him to the brutal murders and mutilations of countless victims and corpses. In a remote farmhouse filled with the stench of death, Ed is driven to do unspeakable acts to his victims, acts that have become legend and the basis for future films like "Psycho" and the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre." This film will shock you with its unflinching horror and unforgettable performances from Steve Railsback and Carrie Snodgrass. No one will ever forget the true story of "Ed Gein."

5 out of 5 stars The Real "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre".......2007-08-21

Eversince i have watched this movie. I lost interest in any other horror movie for Ed Gein was real. I really don't think there is any other serial killer in all of man's nature and mankind that could of done wat Ed Gein has done. Ed Gein Murdered far over 200 people that is how many people's body parts they counted (Not Including The Grave Diggings) Watching the movie makes it a lot more scary becuase it is facts and not fiction. Like THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. This is a must see movie for every one in the world... Before Ted Bundy... Before Gacy... Before Dahmer... There Was ED...

4 out of 5 stars Gruesome.......2006-03-22

Being a horror junkie and having seen many many horror movies, I thought this movie was a very good dipiction of the life of one of the most insane serila killers of our time. The movie has some slow parts, but the acting is very good, and it leaves you with an uncomfortable feeling while watching it.
Like the other reviewer said only two known murders, but in the film you are led to believe that he murdered many more than 2.
This is a must see for the horror junkie and worth a spot in any horror collection.

4 out of 5 stars A Great Film.......2006-02-24

I bought this movie and was not disappointed. After buying movies like Ted Bundy, Dahmer and Gacy, I was interested in seeing the true story of the first famous serial killer, Ed Gein. Steve Railsback gives an outstanding performance! He is wonderful for playing such characters. The movie highlights memories from his past with a very strict mother indicating that this is the reason Ed Gein murdered countless victims. There are many cool scenes in this movie. It's also interesting to know that Ed Gein's story inspired movies like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Silence of The Lambs and Psycho. We see a lonely, disturbed man who sees visions of his dead mother telling him to kill these women b/c they are all sinners. Ed listens to his mother and kills these women and brings them to his isolated farmhouse and mutilates the victims, making his own suits of human skin, and keeping trophies of his victims. In the end, Ed is caught and that's when the police discover the horror that awaits them in the Gein house. A wonderful movie for anyone interested in the Gein story. Definetly a movie worth buying!!

4 out of 5 stars A great film, but gruesome.......2006-02-10

This movie is very gruesome. It explains exactally what Ed Gein was like and exactally what he did to his victims.Ed Gein was a serial killer who only had 2 known victims. His most grisly murder was of Bernice Wordon, of who's body was found hanging in his celler. This movie is 50 percent scary and 85 percent gruesome. It even has a warning on the front of the DVD lable that warns the viewer that it is full of grisly images and gore. This movie should not be watched by anyone under age 18.This is as good movie of which I liked alot. Watch it, but be prepared to become grossed out.YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!

A double bill of rural schlock, with both entries gruesome but somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Deranged was inspired by the unsavory saga of Ed Gein, whose isolated madness oiled the gears of both Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This is a low-rent production all the way, but its shabby locations have a certain eerie authenticity, and it benefits greatly from the casting of the reliable character actor Roberts Blossom--a scarecrow in the American Gothic mold--in the lead role. Now and again a somber but vaguely amusing narrator wanders into the frame to remind us that we are watching the tale of "a necromaniac, a defiler of the dead," as though we could forget. Serial-killer completists should check it out.

Motel Hell is slicker but less effective. Former Western star Rory Calhoun plays Farmer Vincent, a country hotel keeper (free samples of jerky at the front desk) whose line of smoked meats turns his customers into unwitting cannibals. The movie's got some genuinely creeped-out ideas (a backyard garden of victims, buried up to their necks?), but the execution is pedestrian and the humor pretty square. Onetime cultural icon Wolfman Jack has a few scenes as a TV preacher, for no apparent reason. --Robert Horton

Description

Deranged: Ezra's good at making friends... into home furnishings! Based on the same terrifying story that inspired Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs, this hauntingly scary film chronicles the grisly exploits of a rural necrophiliac and murderer! Brace yourself for a "solid horror story" (Variety) that's guaranteed to make you bite your nails... because if you don't, Ezra will!

Motel Hell: You really are what you eat with Farmer Vincent's smoked meat in this creepy horror yarn that "packs a punch and goes way beyond mere terror" (Box Office)! Vincent's popular products contain a special ingredient that the psychotic farmer and his sister would literally kill to keep secret in this darkly funny flick that "just might be your cup of meat" (L.A. Herald Examiner).

4 out of 5 stars Two Good Horror Movies .......2007-07-30

Deranged was the only film i hadnt seen yet based on Ed Gein and I have to say i was pleasantly suprised. Made in 1974, it takes a different approach to the other films using a narrator to offer his two cents during the film. I know the story well by now but I was satisfied with the acting and found it to be a decent horror film based on the atrocities of Ed Gein. It stands out amongst the others.

Motel Hell was something else. I enjoyed this one a lot. It was more of a horror comedy type of movie. Really far out and I liked the characters. Farmer Vincent makes meats and plants tourtists in his garden. A friendly guy on first impression, he has some secrets hes hiding from the public concerning his meats. The fight at the end was great. and you cant forget that pig mask. That really freaked me out. This one shares a similar theme to Texas Chainsaw Massacre except double the dark comedy and humor. The ending is also quite funny. Recommended.

2 out of 5 stars Motel Hell.......2007-03-08

It was ok, liked it as a kid, sometimes it's good to go back in time. One good thing price was good.Ilike buying from you guys right now can't think of next movie but I will soon. Thanks Again

5 out of 5 stars 10 Star rating for the GREATEST in 'B' horror flicks!!.......2007-01-27

What a great combo of meat cutting this double feature is! Who could ask for more? Motel Hell is so blackly classic, and Deranged is one of the first movies to simulate the enigma of famous serial killer Ed Gein.

Motel Hell: The finer points of meat smoking.
The 'Motel Hello' has the 'O' burned out, which makes it Motel Hell ... but that part is trivial. It's one of those homey, cozy places in the middle of nowhere, with not just the motel but a nice little shop that serves up the best smoked meats in the county. Homegrown, I might add. Farmer Vincent's Smoked Meats.

Vincent lives at the hotel with his sister Ida. God I love Ida, she's so far-fetched and crazy. Vincent and Ida spend their days tending the crops and fattening the hogs for slaughter. "It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent's Fritters!" The hotel is the perfect bait for fresh meat, and when no one is checked in, ol' Farmer Vincent checks the roads. After causing a motorcycle crash, Vincent decides to keep one little lovely for his own plaything.

'Motel Hell' is filled with black comedy that will keep you laughing your horror filled butt off. The dominatrix and the pervert who stay at the hotel (oh man, that plastic skirt is priceless!!), Wolfman Jack as a preacher, a psychedelic garden scene, a chainsaw fight with Vincent wearing a pig's head, all make for one of the best black comedy horror films ever made. Serve up some cheese while watching this one.

Deranged: Ed Gein in a tea party.
Supposedly based on the true account of Ed Gein, but taking way too many liberties, 'Deranged' still holds a soft spot in this black heart in spite of the low budget. Made even more melodramatic by a glasses-wearing narrator, this film is cheese from beginning to end, but with a flavor you can't help but enjoy.

Ezra Cobb: Murderer, Grave Robber, Necrophiliac, and known as "The Butcher Of Woodside." Devastated after the death of his mother, whom he cared for most of his life, lonely and child-like Ezra finally digs up her corpse and brings it home to care for.

But Ezra needs fresh skin to keep Mama looking new, so he watches the obituaries for extra parts. Ezra is a good boy though, and he treats the ladies he steals from the cemetery quite well, setting them up at tea parties with his Mama. "Life's a pain and God's a sadist."

Naturally, Ezra's curiosity involving the opposite sex leads him to bring fresher meat to the table, eventually leading to some grisly discoveries. Repairs are hard to make without fresh skin

'Motel Hell' is one of the most classic horror flicks to ever grace the screen. 'Deranged' is cheaply done but well acted and well photographed. If you love horror, this is a MUST HAVE for your collection! Enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars 4 stars for "Deranged".......2006-12-28

"Deranged" is the best reason to buy this rather interesting set. It has so many qualities that most horror films lack. It has shock factor, a genuine plot, disturbing situations and great performances.

5 out of 5 stars Two great movies.......2006-11-30

I was truly happy with these two great films. Motel Hell brought back great memories as a kid during the 80s and back in the day it was shown on HBO a lot when HBO was good and it only showed movies, this film used to scare the crap out of me as well, but, compare to todays films its a cake walk today. I got this because of Motel Hell, so, if your going to buy it, buy it for that reason alone, however, with the movie Deranged..it was truly an odd film with a twist (or shock) at the end, very good film indeed. Recommended!!

2 out of 5 stars Too much "poetic license" here.......2007-08-28

Like other reviewers, I could not accept Hodder as Ed Gein. He's just too big, strong and scary. He looks like a killer. Nothing like the real Ed Gein.

I also didn't expect the gore. If you like bloody body parts movies, you might like this one--it's pretty graphic and sadistic.

From what I know about Gein, he was crazy, not sadistic. He was trying to recreate his mother, not terrorize and torture other women.

The real story of Ed Gein is one of sadness and insanity, not of pleasure killing and meanness. I was hoping to find out more about Gein--particularly his prior life--he doesn't fit the typical serial killer profile, but is one of the most notorious serial killers. I expected this movie would help unlock some of the mystery, and it fell really short. In fact, it added more myth than anything else.

2 out of 5 stars Not true to story of Gein.......2007-07-09

Warning may contain spoilers. Very vague spoilers ahead...
When I first heard that Kane Hodder was playing Ed Gein, I became excited. I thought he would be a very scary Gein. However I was very very wrong, This movie was okay, but it was not accurate in the portrayal of Ed Gein. First off, he did not have an accomplice that helped him rob graves who he later killed because he wanted to stop. They never caught him with a live girl and the cops did not chase him through the woods and put a gun to his head, only to be talked out of shooting him by the very girl he had kidnapped. If you want a good Ed Gein movie see the one with Steve Railsback. Buy it here. Ed Gein. It ruled.

5 out of 5 stars A POWERFUL FILM.......2007-05-13

Strong performances, solid directing, riveting story... If you can handle the violence, this film won't disappoint you...

1 out of 5 stars When Will They Stop These Lousy Serial Killer Films?.......2007-04-28

I'll be covering ground already covered by previous reviewers, but hell, I wanna put my two cents in. This is another movie using a famous serial killer's name with the sole purpose of selling a horror film rather than telling a docudrama. Of course this doesn't stop the film makers from slapping the ol' "Based on a True Story" tag on in the beginning. "Based" being the key word here. 95% of this film is fiction, just so you know. Don't think this is how it all went down. I may be no expert on Ed Gein or anything, but I've read two books on the case, and I am able to smell the B.S., and there is alot of it in this film. Oh sure, one or two things may be accurate, but not the important stuff. This is a true crime case run through the cliched horror movie machine. Watching this strictly as a horror film is a disappointment as well considering it is so cliched, and you feel like you've seen it many times before(and you have). Everything's over dramatized for the sake of the viewers. Subplots and characters added, and of course the climax has to be so much more...climactic. There's an effective scene or two here and there, but wouldn't it be nice to actually watch a true docudrama about the Ed Gein case? You'd have to make it a suspense/drama to do it right, not do it as a horror movie. Kinda like that Ted Bundy film, The Deliberate Stranger with Mark Harmon. But exploiting a real crime to make a schlock horror film is insulting to the audience as well as those who were victims or affected by the real crime. What's the point of a movie like this if you're not gonna do it right? There are so many horror/suspense films that have taken their ideas from the Gein case anyway, so why not do something unique if you're gonna go to the source? Hell, just look at the cover! Obviously the intent(and influence) of this film was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, not the Ed Gein story. I like Kane Hodder, what healthy, God fearing American doesn't? But the casting was obviously to lure us horror fans as opposed to being realistic. Same goes for Michael Berryman, who's given the thankless role of Gein's graverobbing partner. WTF?? How's that for an inaccuracy? Though Berryman may be the second name in the credits, his role is a cameo. But I will say, I dare you not to laugh out loud when Gein hooks his corpse up to the back of his truck and drives away dragging him. Basically, this is a waste of time for both true crime fans as well as horror fans. You really want something that will make your skin crawl? Try reading an Ed Gein book or watching a documentary. Fictionalized Gein films have absolutely nothing on reality for horror.

2 out of 5 stars Boring.......2007-04-05

They tell little to nothing about Ed and the movie moves incredibly slow, horrible acting. It is creepy and at times some good violence but that's about it. And Kane proves why he's a stuntman and not a true actor. Serial killers like Bundy, Gacy, Gein and especially Dahmer need movies with bigger budgets and to be taken more seriously and have better stories.

5 out of 5 stars It's true crime/history.........2006-03-25

I've totally researched Ed Gein and everyone's stories r the same. the creators of this film did a superb job at telling this true story in a movie format. There are no fabrications, fleshing outs just strait up facts in the narrative. This film was also filmed with only the highest grade actors, film and direction.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding genuinely frightening movie.......2005-12-04

I watch horror movies by the scores. It's VERY RARE to find one that I have to sleep with the night light on at night because it frightened me that much. Ed Gein was one of those movies. In the beginning it shows an extremely harmless looking old man being escorted into a police car. TALK ABOUT A WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING! This sicko dug up graves and made lamps, plates, etc out of them. Ultimately butchered two women...also a most disturbing scene he's wearing the skin of one of his victims (or more) with breasts and genitalia. He made steaks out of their flesh, and even this "innocent" looking old man shared his spoils with the neighbors. These big fat neighbors really enjoyed their meat.

By the way, I do not under any circumstance eat any red meat: It looks too human. YUCK!!!! This movie really reinforced my disgust with red meat.

Well, it was incredibly chilling and I was SCARED because I watched it by myself, and I slept with the lights on. Now that's awesome. I was scared.

I really enjoyed this film and yes because it scared me. What a good horror movie SHOULD do.

5 out of 5 stars Ed and His dead Mother.......2005-11-06

Steve Railsback gives a compelling and complex performance as the notorious cannibal and necrophile, Ed Gein.

The film is low key and very effective. I think where Mr Railsback's performance really shines is in showing the isolation and sadness inherent in the material. Ed Gein is not portrayed as a raving psychotic but his schizophrenia is shown to be powerful and crippling, coloring all of his perceptions and actions. This film also excels in showing how a serial killer is MADE thru yrs of emotional and physical abuse at the hands of his religious-fanatic mother.
This is probably the most accurate representation of the sick, sad, lonely saga of Ed Gein.

2 out of 5 stars Alright but could have been better, .......2005-10-06

This is one of those movies that doesn't completely reck of boredom but is right up there. I would call this movie "much (Freddy) ado aboot nothing" The playa that played Gein lookes like the crazy man but its just pretty stupid. I mean Ed what do you need that bloody anti-freeze for anyways. Better than Dahmer but worse than Gacy. Try to avoid this jobber of a movie unless your AD CL or JMa

2 out of 5 stars Hard to watch, as you might expect..........2005-09-06

Well, I do have to give credit to the actor portraying Gein, as it did take some courage to take on this role. As far as the movie goes, you definately will not come away with anything approaching a smile on your face. This is one of those movies that will probably bother you the rest of the day after viewing it. Now, of course this was a horror movie, but there really wasn't anything in this film that made it interesting enough to watch twice. I'd pass on this one.

Just by way of background, and while other reviewers seems to prefer to reveal much of the story and plot, I think that sort of ruins the film in many cases. So, you'll want to look for other reviews and reviewers if that is what you are looking for...

    Description

His depredations inspired immortal horror films like Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The real story may well be worse than any of the imitations. BIOGRAPHY probes the darkest recesses of humanity with an extraordinary portrait of the killer Ed Gein. When investigators were finally led to his farmhouse, they found a scene out of Dante: a freshly killed, decapitated and gutted body hanging by its feet, furniture adorned with human skulls and skin and a cupboard filled with serving pieces made from the remains of his victims. Drawing from Gein's official police and correction records, interviews with people like the supervisor of the institution where he was held and his former neighbors, and clips of the films that immortalized him, this is an unforgettable profile of one of the most disturbing killers in history.

4 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Well Done.......2006-01-13

I wasnt expecting much from these films.I know Bundy played in his hometown when it was released but i think the others went straight to video. This set features 3 Dvd's. Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy and Ed Gein.

Dahmer Review- One man 17 Bodies , 957 Years , His story is finally told. This Dvd stars Jeremy Renner as Jeffrey Dahmer. He gives an excellent performance as a teenage Dahmer and Young man. Dahmer dares to explore the truth of a man many called an abomination of nature. These Dvds are inspired by life events. This dvd will take you into the twisted personal pain that led him to do some of the most extreme cases of human cruelty. This one was well acted but i was hoping for more information at the end. The begining was great, describing Jeffrey's early years but i was hoping they would show where they found the bodies at the end and maybe a bit of the trial. But other than that its good.

Ted Bundy- Charismatic and Handsome but a monster inside. Starring Michael Reilly Burke who does a fantastic job as The young Republican Serial Killer Bundy. I almost believed it was the real Bundy. Bundy was virtually Undetectable and changed the mass murderer profile forever. Step inside the mind of the psychotic madman and ask yourself, if it were to happen again would you seem him coming?

Ed Gein- ''Before there was the term serial killer, there was ''Ed''. This one was horrific. After seeing this video I always wondered why Eddie Gein was considered one of the most gruesome serial killers in history. After all he killed only 2, which wouldn't make him a serial killer since 3 is the lucky number. Just the overall weirdness and the extremes he went to is disturbing. He is a truly unique serial killer. He is the inspiration for Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Psycho and other horror movies. The things he did and the extent of his weirdness is unparalleled by most. The story looks back on Ed's Life and contains some real clips from when Ed was caught back in the 1950's. Ed is played by Steve Railsback who gives an excellent and haunting performance as Ed. The mother of Ed, Carrie Snodgress was great as well. Noone will ever forget the True Story Of Ed Gein.

Recomended for True Crime lovers or anyone interested in learning more about their lives, Why they did what they did or
who they were I highly Recomend these DVD'S. Enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars Not Bad At All.......2003-10-11

This movie although at times dragged a bit was very well done. I have seen Chainsaw,Silence and Pshyco and now finally the granddaddy of them all the man who started it Eddy Gein. Steve Railsbacks performance was great. Although not as gory as I expected the story was there and thats what I wanted. Ed Gein will have you at the edge of your seat especially the last half an hour.
