New addition for "Top 10 worst movies of the year".......2007-09-12
Soooooooooo bad!!!! I give up!!! There has been 1, count 'em, 1 good car movie made in say the last 5-10 years. The Fast and the Furious was so good, and everything else has been so friggin' bad, and you can just add this piece of trash to the list. From the terrible 'Gone in 60 seconds, to both furious sequels (the 3rd being even worse then the 2nd, if you can believe that) Now we get 'Red Line' one of the worst acted movies I have EVER seen, and I've seen some duds. Now I know everyone is going to say, "Why do you need good acting when it's about cars?" It's simple people, good acting, leads to strong, credible characters which in turn leads to a great movie, no matter how simple the plot. Oh by the way, the plot in this is so simple and just dumb, I'll save you the details.
The Fast and the Furious was exceptional because the acting and the writing were above average, so we cared alot about the characters, the story and the excellent ending. That's where this fluff fails and fails miserably. We get these cardboard characters who I swear to god are staring right at the cue-cards while delivering there 'lines' There is no emotion, no passion, no fun being had by any of the actors who you can tell where only in this for one thing and one thing only, a paycheck!!! The 2nd Fast and Furious was terrible, but I atleast was able to make it to the end by enjoying the awesome cars, not here, re-treads everywhere, seen them all before, in fact, several cars form the 1st Fast and Furious are here yet again, yawn........
I think I will stop watching and hoping for another Fast and the Furious because I'm starting to think it can't be done. No matter how many explosions, car chases, hot women barely dressed, and patheticly pimped out cars, can save a movie from what it is, a brainless piece of crap, not even worthy of being enjoyed for 'eye candy' Also, Eddie Griffin need not be in any movie ever again, even though I somewhat enjoyed both Deuce movies (see, I do like terrible movies) He has shown time and time again that he can't act, and his comic timing is, well, lame. Our female leads in this movie, while nice to look at, couldn't act there way out of a cardbaord box, they need to just go back to the erotic thrillers they were making and stay out of main-stream movies.
I complain alot about people being so negative when it comes to reviewing a movie. I try not to, but when a movie is this bad, it's difficult to be kind. I have no problem giving a movie that either bombed something fierce in the theatres or was critically dumped by every reviewer and critic a positive tag. But in doing so, there has to be some element I can brag about that was so well done that in made me forget about the many negatives, I was not able to do that with "Red Line' You have seen everything here a zillion times before and will see again, probably real soon as I'm sure there is a Fast and the Furious 4' on the way. You should have had a good hint when they can't even develop or market a video game for a movie about racing and cars, and how many video games do we get about that a year, hundred or so? So, please, stay away, stay away, stay the !@#$%&*!@#$%&* away.
Need for Speed!!!!!.......2007-09-06
I heard nothing but bad things about this movie. I dont know what everyone's problem is. People just like to bash movies. Clearly, this movie has a certain type of audience. As far as I know, the movie never pretended to be something that it wasnt. So, I do not understand why a person would waste their time watching it unless they were into these types of movies. If you saw the trailer or the DVD cover, you know what you are in for. Rare and exotic cars being raced and crashed. Does it have the best acting? NO. Does it have a terrific intriguing story? NO. Does it deliver the fun that it advertised? OH YEAH!! This movie is like the "Need for Speed" video games come to life! If you liked The Fast and The Furious, then you will surely enjoy this crashfest.
More Fun than Fast and Furious.......2007-08-23
Likeable and believable characters in a formulaic (although less believable) storyline, better acting and dialogue than you'll find in "Perfect Strangers," and some really cool cars. If you liked F&F Tokyo Drift, you'll probably like this one. I'd give it 3.5 stars.
Fast and Furious is junk compared to Redline.......2007-08-23
I was surprised while I was watching this movie. For the production to use real cars, unlike all the fast and furious CGI, and wreck the Porsche. They were able to obtain such rare cars like the McLaren, Koenigegg, and the Enzo which I think is the harest to purchase do to the fact you needed to have a prior Ferrari. All of the other racing movies feature basic autos that most people obtain. Nadia is great in this Movie, I hope she can breakout and become the next biggest star out of Hollywood. I would recommend this movie for anyone that would like to be entertained. Not to people who like to criticize every aspect of the movie or to who loves the fake racing scene.
"Greatest" awful movie EVER.......2007-08-23
I just watched this movie and can without a doubt say this is the BEST awful movie of the year. That is to say, I have never laughed so hard at a movie trying to be so serious. YOU HAVE TO RENT THIS MOVIE, at the very least. The acting is atrocious. The writing, worse. My friends and I, as we watched, said such things as:
-"Tim Matheson just threw coke at that prostitute..."
-"Well, it's good to know he's comfortable playing himself in this movie."
and
"This movie has the highest production value I've ever seen in a soft core porno."
My friend at one point also screamed, "UNCONSCIOUS BOOBS!" And he's right. There was actually on scene in which the director went so far as to showcase a characters boobs when she was being wheeled into an ambulance after being knocked out in a car wreck.
In other words, amazing. If you want to laugh, rent Redline.

Skateboarding idol Tony Hawk leads beginners through an introductory course, starting with selecting the right equipment and ending with intermediate tricks. Hawk teaches the basics of several of the most popular styles, including street, vert, and grinds on rails, with help from Kris Markovich and Brian Sumner, two other pro skaters. The 39-minute video starts out with Hawk and his sidekicks demonstrating balance on the board and the correct way to push and turn. Then they move on to the ollie, kickflip, shove- it, heelflip, and 180s, and finally more complicated moves like dropping into the mini-ramp and how to kickturn and rock-to-fakie. For the finale, they teach the correct way to boardslide on a rail. These pros spend about five minutes explaining in detail how to carry out each trick correctly (and incorrectly--all of the pros take some entertaining intentional falls showing how not to do a trick; fortunately, they wear helmets and encourage all skaters to wear them). A helpful popup dialogue box offers information about the subject.
This well-produced video is fun to watch, whether or not you are trying to learn tricks, since it also contains skateboarding humor and the culture of boarder life. It's a great video for beginners, and it will still be useful once you master the basics. It also teaches more advanced tricks that will provide a challenge for quite a long time, since, as Hawk himself says, it takes years to master them. --Neal Marks

Good for the kids.......2007-06-01
My son is 6 years old and new to skateboarding. The skateboard scene can be a little mature for that age. I previewed the DVD when it arrived and I founf nothing offensive. Tony Hawk does a good job describing the hows and whys of the sport. The only conflicting message was that some of the other boarders did not wear protective gear. That is the only fault I can find with the DVD.
Cool.......2005-03-08
i'm James and i've watched the Tony Hawk's Trick Tips video and it is awesome because i'm only 12 and thanks to the video, I can
do an ollie, heelflip, pop shuv-it,kickflip,double kickflip, and boardslide.I can also nollie and feeble grind and manual.I've only been skating for 2 or 3 years and this video has been a big help. I would definetly recommend this video to a beginner.

Best Skate DVD ever!!! .......2005-01-18
I got this about a week ago on barnesandnoble.com. It just arrived today. I also borrowed my friend's skate video with Andy Macdonald in it and it was short and did not teach you the tricks that well (I mean that if you ask someone else who knows how to do it, they will say that Andy only said a little part of how to do the trick). His is the average skating video and the stough it teaches are as follows: Ollie, Kickflip, Shuv-it, Heelflip, boardslide, and to always wear a helmet. The video also only took about 30 sec. on each trick. Now, the stough Tony Hawk's trick tips vol. 1 skate boarding basics teaches you are as follows: boards, wheels, trucks ,bearings, safety equipment, pushing, turning, ollies, 180 ollies, shove-its, kickflips, heelflips, pumping on mini-ramps, kickturns, dropping in on mini ramps, rock to fakies, boardslides, lipslides, 50-50 grinds, noseslides, tailslides, 5-0 grinds, nosegrinds, and finally, crooked grinds. Tony also takes about 1-2 min. explaining each trick. What I am trying to say is this video teaches you way better than the competition. I highly recomend it.
Excellent.......2003-10-28
This is an excellent video for beginners (and parents of beginners!). My son is just getting started, after having watched Tony Hawk for many years and playing video games. This video really covers a lot of ground, which parents should also watch. It gives a great start for beginners to learn tricks. Definitely recommended.

Kid Tested, Mother Approved........2005-01-25
This is a great series! My son is 11 and very into skateboarding. I worry about some of the language and images involved in alot of skateboarding movies, magazines and games. This is top notch, I think Tony has a real sense for keeping it kid friendly.
The photography was great, I love the way they show the tricks in slowmo again and again so you can see every detail. Tony chats with other pro boarders at a sunny skatepark and discusses the ins and outs of each trick. Very laid back like you are part of the conversation. I would recommend the whole series, there is so much to learn and it is a great value. My son has watched it over and over and over again. You could say I got my moneys worth.
This Is A Great DVD Set.......2004-05-21
I watched this DVD box set and it is the best. It is really good for people just starting out or for people who are learning advance tricks. And it is cheaper to buy the box set than to buy the Tony Hawk's Trick Tips DVDs seperate. I really enjoyed this DVD!!! Anyone who likes Skateboarding should get this DVD Box Set!!!
Hawks can huck dude.......2004-01-08

Tony Hawk's Trick Tips, Vol. 2: Essentials of Street is a good sequel to Tony Hawk's Skateboarding Basics, with more advanced tricks that pick up where the first video left off. In the street section, featured tricks include the feeble grind, 360 flip, and hardflip, with help from the infamous Eric Koston, the 2000-2001 street skateboarder of the year and the X- games street gold-medalist. In the vert section, Hawk demonstrates ramp tricks like the 5-0 grind, frontside ollie, and backside disaster, with help from pro skater Colin McKay and Hawk's young son, Riley. Each pro skater has an animated portrait that randomly pops in and out of the screen, sometimes to give helpful bits of information or comments. But a little of this goes a long way, and it tends to be overused. --Neal Marks

An inspiration to continue skating........2002-12-13
This inspirational DVD is the best thing on market, even if the tricks on this DVD are sometimes tremendous difficulty. With Tony Hawk, Eric Koston and Colin McKay it's an inspiration to continue skating.
If you want to be a well rounded skater, the best thing to do is buy this DVD, watch it and keep watching it until you get all the tricks on this DVD.
Another thing SMILE!!!!!

Novices Need This.......2002-04-19
Good for the beginner skateboarder and his / her family. Also helpful to the more experieced boarder - good safety tips.
Informational and useful to the family member that is not the skateboarder.
Nice DVD.
TONY HAWK TRICK TIPS VOL. 2.......2001-12-28
All Right if you want to skate good you rad dudes out there then let Eric Koston Colin Mccay and Tony show you how! Eric will teach you how to wear your pants. Have you ever wanted helpful hints to 360 flip, varial heelflip and frontside noseslide? Well here's your ticket. Get this video and you will turn into a skating machine. Also check out Tony Hawk Trick Tips Vol. 1.
Tony Hawk Rooolz!.......2001-10-29
I'm an old skool dawg who skated nothing but Tony Hawk decks back in the day, so any DVD with Tony on it is a MUST-HAVE! As for the content, there are 21 tricks in all. Rail tricks include: feeble grind, frontside smith grind, frontside boardslide, backside lipslide, frontside noseslide. Flipping tricks include: backside 180 kickflip, frontside 180 kickflip, varial kickflip, 360 flip, frontside 180 heelflip, backside 180 heelflip, varial heelflip, hardflip. Ramp tricks include: axle stall, 50-50 grind, pivot, 5-0 grind, frontside ollie, fakie disaster, frontside disaster, backside disaster.
As for the format, the DVD is set up much like Vol. 1. Chapter advance on your remote will bring you straight to the next trick. There are sub-menus to help you navigate as well. In my opinion, Eric Koston is a great sk8er, but his comedy needs MUCH work. His antics get to be really annoying after a while. Now the StyLiN' tips by Colin McKay was funny! Colin basically teaches you how to be a poser heheh. Tony's son Riley is in the video; he helps demonstrate the frontside ollie on the ramp. And what a ramp!!! Bob Burnquist's private backyard half-pipe/bowl hybrid thang.
Get this DVD and be amazed how someone 6'3" with size 13 shoes can manipulate a skateboard. Ok, so Tony can't do the backside 180 heelflip... or can he??? Just watch the credits and cheer!!! Yay!!!

Pretty good, but..........2004-05-14
The 2001 is better in My Opinion, 2001 has better/more skateparks/screwing around, although there are more skaters in this one, not as much skating. A must have to complete the series though, this was the last one they made :(

Outdoes the other two.......2003-09-02
Just as good if not better than the first two. They go wakeskating, paintballing again, New Orleans(no nudity,DARN), Whitewater rafting,to a spa and more.
Awesome, OUTDOES THE FIRST TWO!!!!.......2003-08-27
Even more excitement than the first 2. 2 flaws, they don't go to woodward and no Mat Hoffman, but other than that very cool.
Tony Hawkýs Gigantic Skatepark Tour 2002........2003-08-22
What a great collection of shows and extras! This series aired on ESPN in the latter half of 2002 and if you missed it, now is your chance to get it. Some of the highlights that stand out in my mind include Kerry Getz, Eric Koston, and Willy Santos getting SUPER tech all over the place; Mike V. destroying himself to pull off the gnarly stuff; Tony Hawk, Bob Burnquist, Bucky Lasek, and Shaun White just killin' it on vert. Basically, everyone on this tour rocks. Too many riders, tricks, locations, and situations to exhaustively list right here, so buy the DVD and check it all out for yourself!
Some of the more interesting extras that were never aired include Tony getting kidnapped by the B-team; Getz and Chalmers tearing up the real streets of St. Paul, MN; Kris Markovich and Sal Masekela getting ready to throw some blows after someone put something in someone's drink; and Bam's gruesome trip to the dentist (hey can I have that tooth?).
The current DVD format has more options compared to the 2000 and 2001 discs. You can now play all shows consecutively instead of just one at a time. You can also pick individual shows and navigate to specific tour stops therein. It is interesting that some of the original music in certain segments has been changed. I've always felt that skateboarding and video making are works of art and this kinda sets a different tone/mood when watching parts that I am thoroughly familiar with. Also, the "Best Of" segments, where the boyz are reminiscing about the tour, are not included. Anyhow, if you have the series taped as aired (and are cultish on anything and everything Hawk), you might want to hold on to those cassettes even after getting this DVD.
Sadly, this is probably the last of the "Gigantic Skatepark Tour" series, however, I do believe that the 2003 "Secret Skatepark Tour" will be coming to DVD soon. Check out Tony's website for details.
Tony Hawk's Gigantic Skatepark Tour 2002.......2003-08-13
If you have seen the previous two then this is a must,..even if you haven't this is great! Tons of killer skate footage and behind the scenes stuff. All the best are back and then some. Mike V., Bam, Bob, Riley, Sal, Rob, Mirra, Rooftop, Shaun White and so many others. Hell they end up with two buses full of pro's. There is so much footage that is take a few times of seeing it to get it all in. The bonus footage is great as well-(poor Shaun White gets a huge payback). Outstanding DVD!
Description
Secrets of Skateboarding lets viewers in on the inside knowledge of skateboarding. Hawk and Vallely have an entire section dedicated to "old school" skating, while Lasek joins Hawk in giving away guarded secrets about vert skating. For the advanced and daring, Tony explains how to do the elusive 900.
Customer Reviews:
Rockin' it oldskool with Tony and Mike V!.......2002-10-13
Now here's a retro twist on skateboarding instructional videos. A big grab bag of oldskool cool! Street tricks include: ollie grabs, half-cabs, ollie north, late shove-it, ollie finger flip, impossible, boneless, no-comply, pressure flips, street plants, acid drops, and bomb drops. Seeing these tricks again, expecially on a modern-day skate video, makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. I grew up on this stuff! The take home message: If it's fun, even if it's old, go for it!!!
The section with Bucky Lasek is a natural progression from the mini ramp skating we saw in the first two videos. This time the guys are out on a true vert ramp. Vert tricks include: dropping in, frontside airs, backside airs, air to fakie, fakie ollie, half-cab, rock to fakie, rock n' roll, inverts, and frontside tailslides.
Extras include: a lunch break with Tony (watch him scarf 6 hotdogs on a stick hehe), a parking lot session with Mike V, and the game of S-K-A-T-E pitting Tony vs. Bucky on the vert ramp. I had fun watching this DVD. I hope they put out at least one more, perhaps one that would focus on some advanced vert tricks like backside and frontside 540's, varials, flips, and maybe even 900's? Wuhahhahahhaha!

Classic........2004-05-08
The End is definitley one of the best skateboarding films ever made. It was probably the first skateboarding movie to have 16mm and 35mm film used in it. The skateboarding in this movie is amazing and original. Especially parts like Reynold's, Hawk's, and... the whole team. If you're a true skateboarder, then this is a skate movie you should own. I loved every part. The DVD features are awesome too. There are tons of special features such as: old and new rider footage, behind the scenes, the making of The End, Pics, and lots more. This is definitley worth your $.
Great reminder of the excellence of birdhouse.......2003-10-19
As a skate video alone, I would most likely give the end 5 stars, but the dvd clearly takes it to that great level. The video itself interweaves individual skaters' footage with more humorous introductions (some very short, some just as long as the footage itself). When you talk with your friends about the video, you'll probably mention Andrew Reynolds' beer-drinking monkey or Heath and Jeremy's disastrous van ride, but I think what makes it great (and what should make it great) is the skating itself. The skits can get old over time and will lose their novelty but the skating is ground-breaking enough to stay with you. In addition, the dvd really includes a ton of extra material (I especially enjoyed the extra footage with each skater's bio and had a laugh at the chaotic team commentary) that clearly makes this an excellent purchase.
Good Stuff.......2002-09-22
Guess I'm loyal to CKYK but this was pretty cool. I especially liked the "making of..." section where you see the difficulty of the moves and the number of bails and falls before they nail the trick. The van running stuff over was funny as s&%t (EXCEPT FOR RUNNING OVER TREES- EARTH TO DUMB GUY: TREES AND PLANTS CONVERT SUNLIGHT AND WATER TO OXYGEN- YOU NEED OXYGEN TO BREATHE). TH is unreal. Good soundtrack. Was hoping to see more of Bucky.
the best skting movie, of ALL time................2002-04-11
this is easily the best skating movie of all time(excluding "thrill of it all, Modus ',atc) with all the wicked skaters, a million dollar budget and everything i think it is bound to be great, because at the time of this birdhouse had the best ever team easily, apart from old plan b, which means this for sure is a garantee to sucess.....
Wacky sk8boarding fun 4 every 1!.......2002-03-05
What video has exploding vans, beer guzzling chimps, hardcore porn queens, and a gnarly decapitation? Why, it's THE END from Birdhouse of course! Yea, this thing is mostly high concept, but there are a few straight forward themes like Bucky The Psycho killing Tony so that he can be #1. Hey, be sure to catch Tony's varial 720 on that HUGE ramp!
Steve Berra's beheading was ultra cool, but maybe not for the younger crowd. It was nice of the CIA guys to drive up and put the head in a bag. No nudity from the porn girls (darn) but plenty of cleavage (yay)! Heath and Jeremy get all lit up for a flaming shed grind and 50 foot pier ollie.
There are sub-menus for each skater where you can check out pro-model decks and various old clips. It's amazing to see what these guys were capable of at an early age. Heath does a backside 360 double kickflip down some steps and a backside shove-it to frontside 360 shove-it down a ledge! Willy does a triple kickflip, no problem. Jeremy ollies over his car, no ramp. Tony launches from one 5-story building to another, no net. This stuff is SICK SICK SICK!!! Enjoy.

Classic Greatness.......2001-08-04
This video set the standard for all moto-x videos to follow! By far one of the best extreme sports videos ever made. Jeremy Mcgrath is spectacular as always! Well worth your money and your time!
Seth rules.......2001-05-24
As anyone who rides dirt bikes will know, Crusty rules. From the insanity of the jumps to the quality crazy juice action from pubs and parties, this is class. The only reason not to get this is because you spend all your cash riding. Mountain bikers love it too!!! Only 4 stars as it is not as dope as Crusty 2,3,4,5 or 6.

JOHN MELLENCAMP ANTHOLOGY
ASIN: B0000E1WJ1
Release Date: 2004-01-13 |
Description
A rare look inside the studio during the recording of John Mellencamp's new album, "Trouble No More". Mellencamp's newest work covers a collection of historic blues, folk, and American roots music. With over 120 minutes of footage, the documentary provides an intimate look at the making of the album.
Customer Reviews:
insightful.......2005-08-26
If you want to look inside what JM puts into his day and how his hard work comes togehter, this is a must have video. This DVD gives you a fly on the wall view of the making of his album and his hard working stellar band that glued it together. Everyone has a role in his band and you get to see it. The 120 mins go by so fast you'll wonder where the time went and wonder and look for extra scenes. Probably the best take away I got out of it was the understanding of his position on the war of Iraq and his support of the troops. JM will make you think with this video.
Musical drama.......2004-12-27
In the spirit of such "behind the studio glass" classics as Let It Be and The Making of Pump, this documentary offers a fascinating account of how Mellencamp recorded his rootsy album, Trouble No More. Directed by Indiana University professor Ron Osgood, and shot by his students using black-and-white digital video, the work has a gritty, fast-paced, unvarnished appeal. There's no voice-over narration to color or guide our response to what we're seeing. Instead, we watch Mellencamp and his musicians and associates describe what they're doing as they're doing it. As we observe the album being planned, rehearsed, tracked, overdubbed, and mixed, we also share the hidden drama -- including moving footage of the producer's implosion -- that surrounds every great album.
The DVD includes several live in-studio, full-song performances by Mellencamp's crack band. Recorded to 16-track analog tape using tube mics and vintage gear, the music has a raw, edgy quality that perfectly matches the album's cover material-a collection of traditional blues, plus songs by Lucinda Williams, Willie Dixon, Woodie Guthrie, Son House, and Hoagy Carmichael. Guitarist Andy York is a standout -- his slide tone, phrasing, and overall vibe are stellar -- and the interplay between York and longtime Mellencamp 6-stringer Mike Wanchic is inspiring.
John Mellencamp: From Indiana To Washington!.......2004-06-13
This video is an entertaining & informative behind the scenes look into the recording studio at the making of the John Mellencamp CD Trouble No More. While there's only a few complete songs presented here it's highly recommended for fans of Mr. Mellencamp & those interested in exploring the life cycle of a collection of music in the stages of production prior to its release. I especially liked the thoughts of his very capable band on their contributions to the final product. John is one of top singer/songwriters around today & this DVD gives a small but significant look into his creative process.
Adds Dimensions to the Regular CD TRouble NO MORE.......2003-11-08
If your looking to be entertained maybe this is not the way to go...basically it's about how an album was made...the whole process...interesting to see John used analog tape...yes he wanted to really do the old songs similar to the ways they were recorded and using old vintage equipment...also offers John's prespective on the controversial song, "To Washington" which I was irate with John when I found he wasn't supporting the troops. I for one can't decide if the war is right or wrong but I do know I support the troops fighting the war...in this DVD I learn John feels similar he supports the troops but he positively feels there is no winning this war...even if the US troops do win it...so it's a perspective I may not have known had I not watched this DVD...but it's not really a political piece...it's basically on how an album is made...nuances, boredom, partying (none of that here though) and etc etc.
