Rocky: ROCKS!!!!. Great video combimation.......2007-08-18
I loved this combination of the Rocky series. I really enjoyed the video and remember what it was like to be in love with the Rocky series. It is a must for any Rocky fan and a collectors item as well.
Rocky.......2007-07-31
This was a great gift to give. My son loves it and he is only 6.
Excellant Collection for little $$$.......2007-07-30
With the exception of Rocky 5 these movies are some of the best out there for motivation and endurance. I just could not make myself watch Rocky 5 again, once a life is once too many. However, the first four movies are well worth the price! You can use the fifth movie to stop tables from wobbling.

Description
The "Italian Stallion" rediscovers his roots in this exciting, thrill-packed drama that reunites Sylvester Stallone with the OscarÂ(r)-winning* director of the original RockyÂ(r). Upon returning home from his latest triumph, Rocky Balboa (Stallone) learns that all his money has been lost by an unscrupulous financial advisor. To make matters worse, his fight-relatedinjuries force his retirement from the ring. So Rocky, his wife, Adrian (Talia Shire), and his son,Rocky Jr. (Sage Stallone), move to their old, low-rent neighborhood in South Philadelphia. There, the fighter must resolve the deep-rooted resentment held by his son, a bitterness that grows when Rocky trains Tommy Gunn (Tommy Morrison), a young boxer who soon rises to national prominence. When Tommy turns against his mentor and publicly taunts him, Rocky knows he must fight once more. *John G. Avildsen, 1976

The worst of all the Rocky movies.......2007-07-22
If you never watched any Rocky movies, I suggest you watch them.
Keep in mind, you can very much get away with skipping this one.
You are probably best off watching Rocky 1 thru 4 and then Rocky Balboa in order to maintain any reedeeming qualities that this series may have.
Rocky 5 brings to our attention (with mostly sub-par acting) the corruptness that is involved in boxing. Mostof us were already aware of this. Rocky 5 also tries to tell us of a story of family sticking together through rough times. It's a noble story but again done with sub-par acting.
For die-hard Rocky fans, you may as well own this one just to complete the collection. But unlike the other Rocky movies, don't watch it for any other reason but just for the hell of it because you're bored and looking to kill an hour an a half of time.
Even Sly Stallone admits that he's a little embarrassed by Rocky 5, and is one of the reasons why he wrote Rocky Balboa. And he definitely did a great job at reedeeming this story and character with Rocky Balboa
Rocky V.......2007-05-30
I LOVE the "Rocky" series!! I'm a BIG Sylvester Stallone fan, and the Rocky movies make us "underdogs" feel like we have a shot....!! Not to mention that "Sly" is really HOT looking in boxing trunks!!!!
Father-son bonding saved this.......2007-04-07
I sat up late last night watching this movie and I have to agree with most that this was the weakest of the Rocky movies in terms of plot and plausibility. The Rocky of the first four movies, who despite his lack of education and slow exterior, is far from stupid and rather shrewd in reading people (except maybe his brother in law Paulie). In this movie, Rocky makes departures from character that brain damage can't explain. It's hard to believe that Rock wouldn't see through a violent upstart like Tommy, trust alcoholic Paulie to be in charge of his finances at all in the first place, or be that distant from his son (though of course he doesn't realize he is at all in his zeal to develop his own version of Mini-Me). And that street fight was just corny.
However, what saved this movie for me was the interaction between Rocky and "the kid" because it was played by a real life father and son. Sly and Sage didn't have to act those scenes-those tender shows of affection (mostly on Rocky's part), and Rocky's heartfelt plea to assure his son of his wish to keep the "home team" intact, were absolutely genuine, and made the movie worthwhile to me (of course, I love sappy stuff like that).
I'm only sorry Sage didn't return for Rocky 6...
Decent film but new Rocky is a better bookend.......2007-03-27
Unlike a lot of reviewers, I won't totally trash Rocky V. It actually had a decent story but there was just something that it lacked in terms of trying to be the final Rocky.
Certain parts in the film actually are pretty good but they just don't go together very well. While none of the sequels equal the original Rocky (with the exception of Rocky Balboa), all of them seem to have a flow to them that this one kind of lacked. In fact, when I view this film, I rarely look at the whole thing. Most of the time, I forward it to the end with the streetfight which is probably the best part in the whole film! If you notice, the new Rocky barely mentions Rocky V except for the phrase "Home Team" when he was talking to his son! That's how lowly regarded this film is.
I can only recommend this film to die-hard Rocky fans or to those that want the whole story. Otherwise, I'd say skip this one and get the new one along with the first four films.

Don't be discouraged by the poor user reviews this movie received. In my opinion, this is one of the best Rocky movies ever! This one has one of the best developed plots, twists and turns of any of them. I won't spoil the movie if you haven't seen it, but this is one you definitely should watch and has become probably my favorite of them all.

1.5 STARS: Started out like it might be good, but very poorly developed........2007-03-03
Like many others, I caught "Shallow Ground" on the Sci-fi channel. At first, I was thinking I may have stumbled on to something, but the movie failed to develop on its early success. The plot for "Shallow Ground" is confusing to say the least. Evidently, the creators of this flick thought that this confusion would help keep the viewer interested. It does to a certain extent, but by the time the ending rolls around, the viewer or audience becomes irritated and disappointed with the plot development and the ending itself. Frankly, the killer's identity in the end undercuts the early success of the movie...I mean a grandmother for Pete's sake!!!??? That is just soooooo scary!! NOT!!!
Also, the boy coming back from the grave and all of the blood really did not do much for me at all. At first, it kept me interested, but ultimately, all the blood was just window dressing for this flick. "Shallow Ground" tries to be cute with its confusing plot, but ultimately fails to deliver the goods. The acting in this movie is below average to average at best in "Shallow Ground". If you are interested in confusing plots and strange plot twists, you may want to check this out. However, in the opinion of this reviewer, "Shallow Ground" represents an unconvincing attempt at style over substance. The mystery that is "Shallow Ground" keeps one's interest for a little while, but as the movie unfolds and begins to reveal itself to the viewer, the audience gets a feeling of emptiness or a cheated feeling if you will...at least, this is the feeling I came away with after watching this rubbish.
If you want style over substance, check out Dario Argento's "Suspiria" which is the classic style over substance horror movie which actually produces some scares unlike this dressed up trash called "Shallow Ground". "Shallow Ground" might be worth a rent to some, but is definitely not worth owning.
5 for overall strangeness.......2006-11-11
Great film, totally suspenceful and i bet you will have to wtach it several times to figure out whats going on. I also love the ending, i don't know what the ending was about exactally but it was really cool.
Very scarey!!!!.......2006-10-07
I really liked this movie. I bought this movie very blindly at a second hand book shop. I didn't watch it for sometime after I bought it. I really loved the movie. It is scarey, suspensful and very well done. I watched the commentary after the movie and was very suprised that it was a very low budget movie. When I was watching it, I thougth it was a movie that I missed in the theaters. I recommend this movie very highly!!!
Totally disappointed!!!.......2006-09-07
Poor plot, speechlessly confusing storyline, none scary or gory, the longer I watched, the more "?" I got, wondering why other viewers could give more than 1 star???
The ending scene is meaningless and made me laugh, the wicked killer-mom came back from the dead and killed the blood-coated boy, who was supposed the dead too? God, what was the message supposed to deliver?
I love horror movie, but this one...sorry to say that it is really a waste of my money to have bought this DVD.
Fantastic microbudget flick........2006-06-29
Shallow Ground (Sheldon Wilson, 2004)
It sometimes pains me to pick up straight-to-DVD horror releases. Not because they suck-- though, assuredly, most of them do-- but because I inevitably compare something like Shallow Ground (or the more recent Deadbirds) to (a) the complete unwatchable trash that shows up as "Sci-Fi Channel Original Movies" and (b) the complete only-slightly-more-watchable crap that's coming out in theaters under the horror banner. I can't begin to tell you how much more Shallow Ground deserved to be on a big screen than did the recent Hills Have Eyes or Dark Water remakes or, Jehosephat help us, Haute Tension. Yeah, it's got its problems, but when you put it up against any of the three other films mentioned, or scores of others, it's Oscar material.
The plot: a small town, made into a boomtown by an influx of temporary workers building a dam, is deflating again after the dam is finished. Sherriff Jack Sheppard (Skeleton Man's Timothy Murphy), his deputies Stuart (character actor Stan Kirsch) and Laura (Lindsey Stoddart, whose biggest role until now has been a minor part in The Ring), and town paramedic Darby Owens (Scab's Natalie Avital) are all getting ready to go their separate ways when a stranger wanders into town, naked and covered in blood. Suddenly, there's a reason to hang around town, especially when Jack starts to suspect that to silent man killed Amy Underhill (Tara Killian, of American Pie Presents Band Camp), whose murder still haunts him. The truth, however, is a whole lot weirder...
The script could have used a good rewrite or two for the purpose of patching up holes and doing a bit more character development. This, however, is true of a lot of microbudget movies, and we can't really give points off for it here any more than we did for El Mariachi. Besides, lack of character development is pretty much a staple in horror films, no? I can't help but think, though, this one's got enough stubs from which real characters could grow to make a rewrite (and a remake, preferably with the same connections) worthwhile, in the same way El Mariachi grew into Desperado. But if you look past the script's shortcomings and a relatively silly final scene, this is a fantastic little shocker-- well thought out, with enough plot twists to keep you looking like you're trying to follow Wimbledon, some decent acting (coupled with some scream queen action, but again, in a horror flick that's kind of forgivable), and a good deal of convention-flaunting.
I liked this movie a whole bunch, and I hope it ends up getting the attention it deserves. It's the kind of fresh, new horror film that Hollywood needs to understand is what's going to hook a new generation. Cranking out crappy remakes of good films is going to do nothing more than inspire contempt and desensitization. *** ½

KUDOS.......2007-03-22
Don't be discouraged by the poor user reviews this movie received. In my opinion, this is one of the best Rocky movies ever! This one has one of the best developed plots, twists and turns of any of them. I won't spoil the movie if you haven't seen it, but this is one you definitely should watch and has become probably my favorite of them all.

Much will be made of Julia Roberts's wardrobe in Erin Brockovich--a brash parade of daring hemlines and Wonderbra confidence. Roberts is unabashedly sexy in the title role of this fact-based comedy-drama, but she and director Steven Soderbergh are far too intelligent to rely solely on high heels and cleavage. Susannah Grant's brassy screenplay fuels this winning combination of star, director, and material, firing on all pistons with maximum efficiency. With Ed Lachman, his noted cinematographer from The Limey, Soderbergh tackles this A-list project with the fervor of an independent, combining a no-frills look with kinetic panache and the same brisk editorial style he used in the justly celebrated Out of Sight.
Broke and desperate, the twice-divorced single mom Erin bosses her way into a clerical job with attorney Ed Masry (Albert Finney), who's indebted to Erin after failing to win her traffic-injury case. Erin is soon focused on suspicious connections between a mighty power company, its abuse of toxic chromium, and the poisoned water supply of Hinkley, California, where locals have suffered a legacy of death and disease. Matching the dramatic potency of Norma Rae and Silkwood, Erin Brockovich filters cold facts through warm humanity, especially in Erin's rapport with dying victims and her relationship with George (superbly played by Aaron Eckhart), a Harley-riding neighbor who offers more devotion than Erin's ever known. Surely some of these details have been embellished for dramatic effect, but the factual basis of Erin Brockovich adds a boost of satisfaction, proving that greed, neglect, and corporate arrogance are no match against a passionate crusader. (Trivia note: The real Erin Brockovich appears briefly as a diner waitress.) --Jeff Shannon

Erin Brockovich.......2007-08-09
This movie is a must have. This true story makes you think about things and helps you realize that you can change things if you put your mind to it.
Erin Brockovich.......2007-07-17
This movie had a real STORY to tell and what one person can really do, if they're committed to doing something about a company who thinks it's above anyone and anything else! I enjoyed it because I thought it was very well done and was also a TRUE story.
Very course language (probably for authenticity) and not for anyone under 17 or 18, I would suggest. Anyone younger probably wouldn't get anything out of it anyway. Its geared for adults anyway due to the subject matter (chemicals seeping into private wells, etc.).
A New Kind of Role for Julia.......2007-05-10
This movie is worth seeing for a lot of reasons, and for Julia fans, it's a movie that definitely isn't Julia playing Julia, as she has so many times. I have a feeling she had to stretch to portray the brassy, pushy, rude Erin, and she did so brilliantly.
Erin is one of those ladies you love to hate, until you see the goodness and intelligence that may not be the first thing that most people notice about her. And she's a bulldog. Once she gets moving in one direction, there's no stopping her which is a good thing, at least in the true story that this movie portrayed.
This is a funny, heartwarming, and eye-opening movie that's really worth seeing.
True story of David and Goliath in modern terms.......2007-04-20
PG&E, Pacific Gas And Electric company, unintentionally polluted ground water for the town of Hinkley, CA, but tried to cover it up rather than admitting they had caused a major health problem to the residents. This cover up went on for a long time, until a barely-employable spitfire named Erin Brockovich, working for the lawyer Ed Masry, uncovers a strange file of real estate documents which include medical records. Curious as to why a real estate file would contain medical documents, she begins to research the case.
What follows is the true story of a woman named Erin Brockovich, who together with Ed Masry uncovered a major cover up of a health hazard resulting in one of the largest settlements in history. This film is extremely well done, dividing its time between Erin the worker, Erin the single-mom trying her best to raise her three kids, and Erin the human being. The movie skates over the fact that the real Erin got sick along with the rest of the town (although you can see some cut scenes of her illness in the "deleted scenes" feature).
The movie is definitely a dramatized reproduction of the true story, though it still manages to hold very close to the truth. A&E has done a special on the Erin Brockovich case which proves the movie stays true to form. Julia Roberts as Erin and Albert Finney as Ed Masry both give excellent performances. The movie isn't necessarily fast-paced but the dialogue is intriguing, intense at times, and funny at times, keeping the entertainment level high. The acting and dialogue alone are enough to carry this film.
If you're a fan of the little guy taking on the giant, or a fan of Julia Roberts, either way you won't be disappointed. Like Grisham's fictional 'The Rainmaker', you'll feel satisfied that sometimes the little guy can win ... in real life. I recommend a 'buy'. Enjoy!
