Description
The award-winning documentary "Split Decision" tells the compelling story of world champion boxer Jesus Chavez. As a young man, Jesus finds his rise to the world championship cut short when he is deported to Mexico for a youthful crime in his past. Once there, he must take on the two biggest battles of his life: the fight for the right to return to his family and career in the U.S., and the struggle to find acceptance in the country of his birth. "Split Decision" is the multi-layered and suspenseful telling of Chavez's personal story set against the a backdrop of important societal social issues that leaves the audience "to reconsider ideas about justice, redemption and a one-size-fits-all criminal justice system." (Austin Chronicle)
The Split Decision DVD features both English & Spanish language versions. It also contains bonus features including Epilogue: The Return of El Matador, in which Chavez talks about his long-awaited return to the U.S. and his new WBC superfeatherweight world champion title, as well as an interview with director Marcy Garriott.

Customer Reviews:
Split decision very inspirational.......2007-01-10
This documentary is well worth the watch. It is a good example of what can be accomplished in America against what would seem unsurmaountalble odds. Reccommend highly for boxing and non boxing fans.
Ages like wine.......2004-04-03
Garriott did a phenomenal. All these years later, and I still enjoy watching it.
Split Decision Hits Home.......2004-03-28
What a great film to catch you up in a real story and make you stop and think twice about how cavalierly we make and apply laws that there's no chance will ever affect us personally.
Que lucha mas duro! Chavez's fight is worth a watch.......2004-03-11
Chavez's story is inspiring - how hard a person will fight just to be able to continue on a long, trying road to his goal is enough to make even the laziest want to get up in the morning and take on the day. Even if you are not a boxing fan, Split Decision will engage you on the most basic level: we were all immigrants once, but few of us had it this hard. You will root for Chavez as you watch a man caught between two countries and stopped short from grabbing the title he felt he deserved. An arrested development tale with a happy ending, this film is for anyone who loves boxing or cross-cultural issues.
Split Decision: A Must Buy!.......2004-03-10
Split Decision is one of the most compelling personal success stories of the past decade. You will fall in love with Chavez as you watch this well-done documentary. There are three stories in one: (1) the rise and fall and rise again of an American dream; (2) the story of many foreign-born heroes and the challenges that they have in dealing with family and roots that span different worlds - the unknown culture of their parents' world and the culture of their new lives - and (3) the classic success story of determination and hard work. Unlike many documentaries that only catch part of the story, this one gets the whole thing: having captured the high points by filming Chavez in United States, in Mexico and everywhere that counts. Split Decision awoke the same excitement that I had when I watched Rocky as a boy, but was much more powerful - because it is a true tale. I give this DVD my highest endorsement, you'll enjoy it immensely and you will want to share it with your friends and family. Further, for boxing fans who would like to entice their friends and family who may not have such a great view of the sport, this is a must buy, for it portrays an important human element. In fact, the recommendation for the DVD came to me from someone who was previously a die-hard anti-boxing fan, now a convert. I am a boxing fan and I had the same luck in showing the documentary to my wife. You'll love it, this is a guaranteed winner!

descent......Ekin's a cameo.........2002-09-16
This movie is a spin-off of ever popular Goo Wat Jai aka Young And Dangerous series. The story focuses on Sister 13, the lesbian branch leader of Hung Hing ( if u've seen Born to be king, she marries someone). Movie focuses on her struggles, relationships with other characters and more. Surprisingly, Kristy Yeung, Hsu Chi both turned in a great performances. ( i always thought they dont kno how to act). But the film itself takes too much time exploring characters so it ends with a show of Hung Hing Solidarity. Film ties up too conveniently, but acting and character driven elements are top notched.
definitely check it out if you're Y&D fan
Very enjoyable sequel, but not quite Young and the Dangerous.......2002-06-04
This movie was actually rather enjoyable. I had been caught up alot on the hype of the Young and the Dangerous series, and had heard that this movie was quite good as well, and it did not disappoint.
The picture was much improved over the Y&D series which i had seen on VHS, so i was quite impressed with the quaity of this dvd.
Features were lacking though, as with all asian dvds.
However you get the basics, such as scene access, limited previews and subs etc.
Onto the movie, Portland street blues is basically the chickie version of Y&D, and by chickie i dont mean chick flick, its just essentially a similiar 'ganster' type movie, only with chicks taking charge of the main jobs and roles instead of what was seen in Y&D. Overall the characters are pretty well done, with some nice interacts between them throughout the movie which proves not only interesting but quite dramatic in some parts.
Portland Street Blues however seems to focus less on the vengeance/action part which Y&D so successfully hinged itself on, and focus' more on the characters and their relationships.
Quite an interesting contrast, and definately worth a view, but dont expect another Y&D or else you'll be left quite disappointed.
Saw it on VCD.......2001-08-31
I saw this movie on VCD and it rocked, for those who is a fan of The Young and Dangerous, this story ties right in. Instead of being a story about the guys in The Young and Dangerous, it's about the girls.

Customer Reviews:
A Complete Boxing Package! A++.......2005-02-11
I recently received the Christopher Getz Ultimate Boxing 8 DVD Boxed Set and on first pass I am impressed. There is so much information it took me over a week just to view them all. I have over 40 pages of notes after watching just half of them. Getz is a very skilled and knowledgeable teacher who is never boring as he breaks down all the techniques and strategies in a way you can easily learn them. The lessons are very well structured and all DVDs compliment the others. Everything is covered from equipment to basic and advanced techniques so I must say this series offers a complete package on Boxing which is what I have been searching for and finally found with this set. The best thing is besides the physical routines, the lessons open your eyes as to how sophisticated and technical the sport of boxing really is. Boxing is a game of chess and to succeed Coach Getz teaches you to be a smart fighter as well as a fit fighter. The series is a total package with hundreds of techniques, tips and strategies that can make anyone who studies them a complete fighter. A++ Very good investment!

not the best michael worth film.......2007-06-19
Though he doesn't have a big list of martial art movies, what Michael Worth stars in I usually thoroughly enjoy. Films such as "To Be The Best", "Final Impact" and "Fists of Iron" have had a large amount of martial arts action, good B-movie production quality, good supporting characters, and decent storylines. Street Crimes provides all these elements once again, just toned down to less than I was expecting.
Street Crimes reminds me of "To Be The Best", "Final Impact" and "Deadly Bet" alot from the very beginning. The same produces (Joseph Meri and Richard Pepin) along with score composer (John Gonzalez) use about the same style of directing and music, which is pleasant for a B movie in my opinion. Michael Worth's character is too similar to that in his other movies in terms of acting, but he still does a fine job. The supporting cast is rather enjoyable, and the villain is one big bad dude named "Gerardo" played by James T. Morris. Unfortunately we don't get to see him too much until the end.
The story is good and somewhat uplifting, with a good moral center about a rookie cop (Michael Worth) who hates guns and decides to set up a fight ring in an old youth center for the town's drug dealers and violent gang members to use instead of killing each other. One of the leaders, Jimmy (Ron Yuan - To Be The Best, Ring of Fire, Deadly Target), challenges Tony (Michael Worth) to a fight. Afterwards he joins Tony's cause until the leading dealer in the neighboorhood decides to put an end to it.
I expected more fight action then there was. In most Micahel Worth films, there is enough fight action to fill 2 normal martial arts movies, but Street Crimes has maybe 5 fights, none too long and overly exciting, though a few are done well. The final fight, no less, is the best, between Tony and Gerardo outside the youth center at night. It is only a 2-1/2 minute fight scene. It is obvious Gerardo is a boxer, but his huge size and spinning punch combos are the highlight of the fight.
Street Crimes is a good movie and should provide enjoyable entertainment, but its nothing to get too excited over. A strong average B action movie, but if you are looking to be wowed by lots of fight action, check out Fists of Iron, To Be The Best, or Final Impact - all starring Michael Worth.
mark twain sam australia WA Perth.......2005-11-08
I like Michael Worth although he can be annoying with his long kiaaa! sounds like as if he is trying to be a try hard Van Damme. I like my B-Grade martial arts movies and this one will be in the middle of my shelf collection due to the storyline and fight scenes are good. Michael is a rookie cop and is teamed up with a veteran cop who is old enough to be his father. After attempting an arrest on a gangleader, the leader of the gang (Ron Winston Yuan) challenges Mike to a fight at an old broken down youth centre which Mike of course accepts. After defeating the gangleader both decide to help the community by re-opening the centre and if cops and crims have a certain dislike to each other on the street or anywhere else they can sort it out in the ring. The villian is a major drug dealer who doesnt like to see his community being cleaned up and well, ill leave the rest of the plot up to you to find out what will happen next.
