satisfying action from a poor film.......2007-07-18
Maybe I am the victim of a bootlegged version, but this is the absolute worst picture quailty I have ever seen on dvd. Seriously, VHS looks better. That's a big minus right there. Maybe its fitiing for this movie, because script, acting, and even the leads are all weak. What saves this film is the good amount of action it has to serve, and a martial arts movie villain favorite - Matthias Hues.
For all of you who know your American martial arts movies, you probably know that Billy Blanks and Jalal Mehri are not the most sought after. In Talons of the Eagle, we actually get to see them partner up and go undercover into a crime-lord's (James Hong - Bloodsport 2, Gladiator Cop) arena. With what I read about this dvd, they enter a martial arts tournament and thats where the description ends, making me believe this movie was going to have quite a tournament or focus on one. As it turns out, there is no more than a 5 minute tournament scene only used for these guys to be noticed by the crime lord and come work for him. I was dissapointed, but there ended up being more than enough action to make up for it.
I have to say that this is once again a typical story with little originality. There are some training scenes that both cops undergo before they enter the tournament. The training involves the style known as "Eagle Claw" While its original and I have not found another martial arts film that displays this style, my interest was yet to peak. Again, its basically the action scenes in this one that stand out.
As for that action, there is a lot of fighting from beginning to end. The end of the movie had a great deal of action, and saved this film and actually made it almost worthy to watch again ofr the action. Matthias Hues gets the final fight against Billy Blanks, which lasted a good 5 minutes. A satisfying fight that seems to keep going when you think it might end. They even fight for a bit in the back of a pickup truck, which was neat while it lasted. Eric Lee (Ring of Fire 1 & 2, Death Match) also stars as one of the bad guys, and has a cool fight against the master that tought the cops the Eagle style of fighting.
This is basically a film to own for the action. There is very little else worthy. With a title like that, what did you expect?
Billy blanks is/was the king of low budget martial arts movies.......2005-08-02
this one is funny doe ;)
"You look like your picture" "Im Sorry To Hear that".......2004-05-13
One of the stupidest yet funniest movies i ever watched in my entire life. The acting, the music, and the comments (see example of my review title) are so bad that they end up being hilarious!! It's too bad this movie isn't out on DVD (I wonder why) because I would have bought it directly. If you're looking for a movie to watch with some friends and have a good time laughing, this movie is definitly one of the best, and it's price is very affordable :D
Two thumbs up!
A really cheesy movie!!!!!.......2002-04-27
I loved this movie on some many levels, the badness, the cheesiness, the bad acting, the horrible script, even the cover is stupid. I couldn`t believe what I was watching the first time I saw it. It was beyond bad. It`s something you have to see to believe.
Even Martial Arts Movies have to make sense........2000-10-23
THIS FILM MAYBE MIGHT OF HAD A FIGHTING CHANCE IF THEY HAD CASTED MAYBE STEVEN SEAGAL OR WESLEY SNIPES IN THE LEADS INSTEAD OF THESE TWO MORONS WHO CAN`T ACT AND HAVE ABSOLUTY NO CHEMISTY. SO BAD IS THIS FILM IT MAKES JEAN CLUDDE VAN DAMME & HIS FILMS MILESTONES IN THE GENRE. THE INEPT STORYLINE SURRONDS TWO DEA AGENTS AND A TORONTO COP WHO INVESTIGATE AND INFLATRATE A CRIMELORD`S DOMAIN, AND WHAT`S THE WORST PART IN THIS FILM IS PRISCELLA BARNES FROM `THREE`S COMPANY FAME AS JALERL MERHI`S
LOVE INTREST IT`S NO WONDER SHE HASN`T BEEN ABLE TO GET ANY GOOD ACTING ROLES WITH HER INABILLTY TO A DELEIVER A REAL GENUINE PERFORMANCE. BILLY BLANKS IS BETTER OFF MAKING MONEY WITH HIS TAE BO EXERCISES THAN AN ACTING CARRER IN HOLLYWOOD. WANT TO SEE A GOOD MARTIAL ARTS FILM SEE ENTER THE DRAGON(1973)OR EVEN BLOODSPORT(1988)

FISTFUL OF TALONS
I really enjoyed this film. Obviously costed nothing, was filmed in less than a week, easily, and still manages to have enough energy becasue of billy chong. I have this movie on a 2-movie dvd from video asia that also has the classic "Kugn Fu Zombie" on it.
So Billy is a Qing hater and wants to throw down with anybody who is lookign to revolt and try to overthrow the government. So he does things like brutally cut off their Qing braids, and even lets his mouth go in front of the great hapkido master-Whang in-Sik (baddie in Young Master). His father(bruce's master in chinese connection and jackie's master in young master) does not want to fight with anybody and gets his son out of trouble. But his son just can't help himself. He decides to shwo the governemt up and even messes around with a local oficial. Well things turn bad when a man he was trying to help is on the run because of his loyalty and billy follows. No action for a WHILE. But soem really awesome training sequences on a huge statue(more like imbedded in the rock like rushmore) of buddha, freaking sweet. So in the end Whang in-sik finds everyone and we get a SPECTACULAR conlusion that gets a bit too weird for me, but still highly enjoyable. And if you don't know who the hero and bad guy of this movie are, you will certainly learn. This is easily one of the cheapest movies ever, with the final fight being set in a painted backstage. How it delivered, I have no idea but is a true testament to hwo great those 2 were. WOW!!!!!
Also the movie has a big tribute paid towards animals. Horses get are paid much respect , and yes, the eagle's are...
MILITANT EAGLE
I have the brentwood verison, and it freaking sucks! Full screened of course, you are missign out on like 30% of the picture. But I will comment full that in a minute.
The movie is absolutely wonderful. It is your typical sword drama with PLENTY of fighting at teh end to satisfy any genre fan. The movie starts out with a man going home returninig from the war. It is your typical killer clans, superhuman feats beign done type of movie. But it does so many new things. There is a MONSTER of a man in this, their are a ton of great henchmen. And not the best story but still very enjoyable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for anyone willign to put up with one of the worst pan and scan jobs ever.
But even if you don't enjoythe story, in the last 30 minutes you have a TON of great battles among various people(including the giant) that leads to a pretty good final fight.
Double Feature Kung Fu action!.......2002-09-27
This release by Brooklyn Zoo has two films on the disc. The first is Miltant Eagle, and the second is Fistful of Talons. Both are fair Kung Fu films, but you wont find anything spectacular about them. Both are English dubbed. No subtitle fearture.
The first, Militant Eagle, is of poorer visual quaility. It appears to have been copied from a VHS edition where the tracking was off for half the film. There are several well choeregraphed fight scenes however, including the ending where seveal of the heros are pitted against the villains simutaneoulsy. Even a group of kids get into the fight with there sling shots. Overall I'd give the first film a 3 due to the video quality.
The second feature, Fistful of Talons, is of better quality visually. Billy Chong plays a cocky guy who gets involved in throwing down a small movement by the Chings to restore the CHing dynasty. Along the way he meets up with Miss Ma, an enthusist and keeper of eagles. After backing out of a marriage arrangement with her, she tracks him down with her loyal eagles. Lucky for him she does, because the eagles play a vital role in saving his life in the last fight. Yeah that's right, these eagles seem to know some kung fu. You'll just have to watch to see what I'm talking about. Miss Ma dos'nt use much kung fu, she's in mainly for an excuse to have a cute girl in the film.
I prefered Fistful of Talons, and would give it a 3 1/2 rating. But for the price, it's worth getting this DOuble feature disc. Even if your turned off by the picture quality in Miltant Eagle, Fistful of Talons is worth the price.
