Better action, a bit of sex, and gorier R-rated violence make Underworld: Evolution a reasonably satisfying sequel to 2003's surprise hit Underworld. Looking stunning as ever in her black leather battle gear, Kate Beckinsale is every goth guy's fantasy as Selene, the vampire "death dealer" who's now fighting to stop the release of the original "Lycan" werewolf, William (Brian Steele) from the prison that's held him for centuries. As we learn from the film's action-packed prologue, William and his brother Marcus (Tony Curran) began the bloodline of vampires and werewolves, and after witnessing centuries of warfare between them, their immortal father Corvinus (Derek Jacobi) now seeks Selene and the human vampire/lycan hybrid Michael (Scott Speedman) to put an end to the war perpetuated by Victor (Bill Nighy), the vampire warrior whose betrayal of Selene turns Underworld: Evolution into an epic tale of familial revenge. This ambitious attempt at Shakespearean horror is compromised by a script (by Danny McBride and returning director Len Wiseman, Beckinsale's real-life husband) that's more confusing than it needs to be, with too many characters and not enough storytelling detail to flesh them all out. Aspiring to greatness and falling well short of that goal, Underworld: Evolution succeeds instead as a full-throttle action/horror thriller, with enough swordplay, gunplay, and CGI monsters to justify the continuation of the Underworld franchise. If you're an established fan, this is a must-see movie; if not, well... at least it's better than Van Helsing! --Jeff Shannon

4 out of 5 stars Doesn't Quite Hit The High Mark Of The Original But Still Excellent Action Horror.......2007-09-11

While not reaching the pinnacle of the first "Underworld", this sequel is a very worthy follow-up that attains its own kind of greatness. Visually stunning, sexy, action-packed, and imaginative in the looks for its slowly growing line-up of creatures, it's a horror thrill ride that makes it worthwhile to overlook a few missteps.

Beginning about 800 years ago to reveal the full origin of both the vampire and Lycan (werewolf) clans, it then flashes forward to the present day, picking up very shortly after the ending of the first movie. With the vampire hierachy shaken to its foundations and the clans in disarray, Selene and Michael are on the run from a slew of potential enemies, quickly hopping from safehouse to safehouse. Marcus, the third of the elder vampires (and apparantly most dangerous, capable of shifting into an awesome monsterous form with massive, taloned wingtips that can impale his adversaries) is awakened and fills the role of main villain in the movie. He pursues Selene because her position as the 'adopted daughter' of Viktor has, in a fashion that's explained later in the film, some kind of connection to an ancient plot that Marcus has been waiting centuries to put into play. In the chaos following the first movie's finale, Marcus seizes on the opportunity to finally track down and free the original werewolf from its prison.

One thing wrong is that "Underworld: Evolution" feels too rushed; there's too much packed into its 106-minute running time. What I really would like to see (and actually wouln't be surpised to see happen close to the release of a third Underworld movie, if one comes out) is a release of an Extended Edition - 25 or 30 minutes longer, ideally - of Underworld Evolution come out. Close to half an hour is about what I figure it would take to balance the pacing and give it a chance to develop some points that felt shortened. I wouldn't be surprised if this was originally longer anyway, and got cut down because studios are still shy about releasing very many theatrical movies that go much over two hours.

Another problem - and I hate to admit this one because I really loved "Underworld: Evolution" - is that there are a few parts that just plain don't make sense. For example, after a major blow-out at a restaurant against Marcus, (where there's even a large police prescence) Selene and Michael flee the scene in a truck and end up taking refuge in an old warehouse that appears to be only a few miles from the site of the altercation. Now, I realize dawn was breaking and they had to take any refuge available because Selene burns in sunlight. But once there, they seem completely unconcerned that it might be easy for the police or anyone else to find where they'd holed up (or maybe not so easy, since no one does). Instead the movie goes forward into more romantic territory very quickly at this point. Now, that part was welcome, but if the film had been longer, there could have been a more realistic, 'cornered/on-guard' atmosphere where the two are trying to devise a way to get a better distance away in the daylight hours; and then had the exact same romantic scenes from the warehouse take place somewhere else, safer. There are a couple other instances where things like this just don't seem consistent.

The acting, while good, isn't quite on par with the first one either, although there a number of truly impressive performances, including by Kate Beckinsale as Selene and by Derek Jacobi as a previously unseen Immortal from before the time of the first vampires and Lycans. It's hard to compare Scott Speedman (Michael)'s performance with his great turn in the first one because he doesn't get as much screen time here; maybe they'll beef up his role in either the third film or an extended version of this one. The action sequences are superb, and the special effects excellent.

If there is a third movie, I'll repeat what I said when I did a writeup for the first one: we've got new spins on vampires and werewolves here; I really think the filmmakers would do well to consider adding a third breed of monster (goblins, zombies, whatever) and trying to do something really fresh and original with them too.

Overall "Underworld: Evolution" is a great action horror movie, ones that fans of the first one can't afford to miss, even though it requires some suspension of disbelief. Definately good enough to buy and not just rent.

2 out of 5 stars So-So.......2007-08-07

I'm a sucker for sequels and couldn't resist this one and on a rainy afternoon binged with this movie as well as the first, Underworld. Underworld Evolution picks up precisely where Underworld ended and all of the dangling ends finally twine together for an entertaining and dark action film. Action was pretty good (how can you go wrong with werewolves and vampires?) though the plot often seemed to be grasping for something more solid. This was definitely not as good as Underworld but still worth a watch but still mediocre compared to most films in the genre.

3 out of 5 stars More of the same..........2007-07-18

Underworld Evolution continues where the last movie ended, with Marcus awakening. It turns out he wishes to release his brother, William, the first of the lycans. The movie traces the start of the war between the vampires and werewolves. But, outside of the wild Williams, we don't have any lycan characters. Also, the fact that Selene was betrayed by her own kind should not be a shock - we became aware of that in the last film. And how is killing the immortal bothers part of her revenge? As you can guess I am somewhat disappointed with the second movie and while I love Kate Beckinsale as an actor and as a vampire, that wasn't enough to save this film. Lots of star power and a good mixture of special effects but the story was just too badly made to hold up. In other words, no story, lots of action. Get the popcorn and turn off the mind.

4 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable -- But!!!.......2007-07-09

I'm very confused by the sequel. Okay, if Marcus was in fact the FIRST vampire, then what was his father? How does Viktor get to be the head hancho all of a sudden? Marcus made him and he's giving all these orders in the beginning. I love Beckinsale in these movies, but come on! She's like a wonder woman in all these fight scenes.

I disagree with the one and two star reviews. I think it's a movie worth watching just for the entertainment value.

4 out of 5 stars Love the concept........2007-07-03

I love the concept of this story. Great visuals. I do think it gets a little sketchy on the details toward the end though.

4 out of 5 stars It's a vampire movie.......2007-06-12

I really liked the first Underworld, so I expected a lot from this one; I wasn't disappointed. The movie picked up right from where the first one ended, and moved at a quick pace through each scene with nary slow parts. They achieved this very well because the story was expounded and progressed easily along with the action sequences. This is a vampire movie, so everything is dark, and they've filtered the colors with a blue tint, and this created an eerily beautiful effect. The character development is very thin, of course most of that was taken care of in the first film. This one was did seem very linear and predictable, relying on spectacular effects and action to carry the weight of the film. But, like I said, this doesn't really mean a lot because the first movie covered everything important. Remember in the 80s where every movie had a bunch of small battles culminating in one scene where the protagonist faced off with the "big boss"? Evolution was like an extended big boss scene, only with more revelation and a bigger boss. The ending did leave room for a sequel, but also concludes everything so if they made a sequel they would have to write a new story unrelated except featuring Kate and Scott's characters. I really enjoyed this movie. If you liked the first one, this one is a no-brainer.

5 out of 5 stars King of all Vampire and Werewolf Movies.......2007-04-11

It just doesnt get any better then this. If you like this genre of movie you cant miss this sequel. Amazing quality.

4 out of 5 stars Nice release, crisp and clean.......2007-03-23

This is a very dark movie so I was very impressed how crisp and clean this blu-ray disk turned out. So clean the wolves looked even more fake than I remember at the theater. Very impressive audio as well. Not much colors as the movie had a blueish tint throughout. Now I can only hope they will give the 1st movie the same treatment as that is the MUCH BETTER of the two.

4 out of 5 stars Stunning transfer...blah movie.......2007-02-12

I really liked the first Underworld and was looking forward to this movie (though I never got to see it in the theater); unfortunately this sequal was vastly inferior to the original. After watching the movie for a while I looked at the timer and saw that 36 minutes had passed and absolutely no plot advancement had occurred and through the whole rest of the movie it seemed that there was more time-filler action than actual plot. It's almost as if someone wrote a treatment for a movie and that Evolution was shot off of that rather than a script.

With all of that said Kate Beckinsale looks fantastic (as always) and there are some fantastic special effects/cool fight scenes in the movie that make it worth watching.

On the Blu-ray side the transfer is amazing; this ranks up with the very best video and audio I have seen/heard on the format. If only the storyline could have matched the absolutely amazing picture.

2 1/2 Stars for the actual movie and 5+ stars for the blu-ray.

More of a real-life exploitation film than a bonafide documentary, Cocaine Cowboys is tailor-made for anyone who worships Brian De Palma's Scarface. It's no surprise that this slick, energetic film found a niche audience among crime-obsessed hip-hoppers; from a journalistic perspective it's an irresponsible mess, but director Billy Corben is obviously more interested in capturing the thrills and danger of the drug trade that transformed Miami, Florida during the Miami Vice era of the late 1970s and '80s. Corben has no particular interest in seriously examining the sociopolitical implications of Miami's drug-fueled rise and fall, so Cocaine Cowboys lives up to its title by focusing on some of the most colorful, daring, and outrageously successful survivors of that era, when tons of cocaine were distributed through Miami by the kingpins of Colombia's notorious Medellin cartel. Chief among the many interviewees are Jon Roberts and Mickey Munday (who personally transported over $2 billion worth of cocaine into Miami) and Jorge "Rivi" Ayala, a convicted drug-trade assassin now serving consecutive life terms in prison. They're lively storytellers who are egotistically eager to share their coke-tales, and Corben's only too happy to capture their exploits on film, up to and including the dubious use of violent reenactments that could easily serve as a recruitment film for Tony Montana wannabes.

It's simultaneously disgusting and compelling, especially since Corben has a knack for matching swift editing to the pulsing score by TV's original Miami Vice composer Jan Hammer. In the final analysis, it must be said that Cocaine Cowboys succeeds as a brash and breathtaking record of a bygone era, when murder rates were at an all-time high, coke was everywhere, and Miami was financially transformed into a nightlife mecca where criminals were kings. Or queens, as in the case of Griselda Blanco, the ruthless and self-appointed "Godmother" of the cocaine trade, who was responsible for countless murders and as of 2007 remained at large, her whereabouts unknown. All of this deadly life in the fast lane makes for a fascinating movie, but Corben and coproducer David Cypkin's breathless commentary makes it clear that they're young, immature thrill-seekers, and their film makes no apologies for glorifying the drug trade while exploring its bloody and frequently fatal consequences. Their commentary also accompanies an abundance of deleted scenes, and there's also a bonus featurette, "Hustlin' with the Godmother," in which Griselda Blanco's former lover and big-time coke dealer Charles Cosby tells his story, which clearly has all the makings of a Hollywood movie along the lines of Blow. You can bet that film will eventually be made, and don't be surprised if it's Corben who makes it. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent and Educational. .......2007-08-25

This kind of looked like it was going to be a seriously low budget no frills production, but it turned out to be a first rate documentary. Cocaine Cowboys explores not only drug traffickers and the cocaine trade, but also the rise of a great American city. Florida in the seventies was "wide open," and, as always, the government was several steps behind the criminals. The venture that Mr. Roberts had with Mr. Munday flying "product" in and out of Columbia was pretty fascinating as were the links with the Ochoa Cartel. The interviews are excellent and these fellows, along with hitman Rivi Ayala, tell us just about everything we need to know about a period in Miami's history when it was wilder than the wild west. Godmother Griselda Blanco was a fascinating, although detestable, character, and one I had never heard of before seeing the documentary. Were it not for drug cash would Miami be what it is today? Quite doubtful.

4 out of 5 stars Oh my God the money!.......2007-08-14

This movie almost makes the case for legalization. Can you imagine making $1.2 million for one trip. I'm still blown away by the amount of money these guys earned. On the other hand, the violence that accompanies the money is scary. In the end, Miami, like Hong Kong, prospered by satisfying the needs of the middle class, the impact of which can still be seen. On another note, the people involved, celebrities, doctors, lawyers and politicians is unbelieveable.

5 out of 5 stars Cocaine Cowboys.......2007-07-05

Definitely a must see movie, shows the real side of miami that alot of people haven't seen.

5 out of 5 stars The best drug story told...........2007-06-30

This documentary was so good, and so well told. It had me at the end of my seat in awe and shocked. One of the best drug told documentries ever...if you haven't seen it yet, please do. Miami was getting money fo' real.

5 out of 5 stars Great In All Aspects.......2007-06-27

As a Miami resident, I found the film to be intriguing and very informative. Having grown up in South Florida, the film was 100% accurate and the way it was presented kept you glued to the TV. I do hope that the great city of Miami never repeats the past.

Blade meets The Crow and The Matrix in Underworld, a hybrid thriller that rewrites the rulebook on werewolves and vampires. It's a "cuisinart" movie (blend a lot of familiar ideas and hope something interesting happens) in which immortal vampire "death dealers" wage an ancient war against "Lycans" (werewolves), who've got centuries of revenge--and some rather ambitious genetic experiments--on their lycanthropic agenda. Given his preoccupation with gloomy architecture (mostly filmed in Budapest, Hungary), frenetic mayhem and gothic costuming, it's no surprise that first-time director Len Wiseman gained experience in TV commercials and the art departments of Godzilla, Men in Black, and Independence Day. His work is all surface, no substance, filled with derivative, grand-scale action as conflicted vampire Selene (Kate Beckinsale, who later became engaged to Wiseman) struggles to rescue an ill-fated human (Scott Speedman) from Lycan transformation. It's great looking all the way, and a guaranteed treat for horror buffs, who will eagerly dissect its many strengths and weaknesses. --Jeff Shannon

Stars: Kate Beckinsale (Pearl Harbor, My Life Without Me), Scott Speedman (My Life Without Me, TV's "Felicity").

4 out of 5 stars Vampire Flick.......2007-09-13

I love vampire movies and books, so of course I like this movie. However, even if you are not into the vampire genre, I still feel like this movie is worth watching. It definitely puts a new spin on the vampire/werewolf stories. Plus, Kate Beckinsale is in tight leather! Even a straight woman can appreciate that.

5 out of 5 stars loved it.......2007-09-07

I thought this was an outstanding take on the Vampire Werewolf genre together with great action and cinematography and good acting. Kate... well, she's always worth watching, right?

3 out of 5 stars Okay.......2007-08-07

After my second viewing of this film I figured I'd get around to writing a review. In an our-world noir-esque film, vampires and werewolves are in an age old war to defeat one or the another. The werewolves pursue an age old legend of a wolf and a vampire combining into one species. It's definitely an interesting idea combining two of the best horror species and the movie allows for some definite eye candy moments. The film is shot in a very cold, sterile at times, manner that allows for some grand juxtaposition of some of the film's carnage. A fun film.

2 out of 5 stars underplotted, underacted, underdone, underworld.......2007-08-01

Underworld (Len Wiseman, 2003)

Okay, so, well, it's Kate Beckinsale in skintight leather with big guns. And that's a reason to watch just about anything. The question is, is there anything else about this movie worth watching? I'm not entirely sure whether I can give a definitive answer to that question, but I'm leaning towards "no".

The plot-- what there is of it-- revolves around Selene (Kate Beckinsale), a vampire from a clan who've been at war with a clan of werewolves (known as the Lyken, because in Hollywood, everything is cooler if you shorten it), heade dby the enigmatic Lucian (Michael Sheen) for a long, long time. And, well, I'd have to go well into the second half of the movie to give you more of a plot summary than that, because it takes this movie forever to actually come up with a plot. (When it does arrive, it's a rather loose definition of the term anyway.) The main thing you need to know is that a human medical student, Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman), gets in the way.

Perhaps I'm giving the movie short shrift, and when it was originally conceived, there was a much stronger, more coherent storyline. Still, that's not what we ended up getting. Yeah, things finally start coming together about an hour and twenty minutes into the movie, but for the first hour and twenty minutes, there's really not much to do but stare at Kate Beckinsale in skintight leather with big guns. And, you know, even that can get old. (Substitute "Charlize Theron" and AEon Flux, and there you go.) Definitely not one I'll be rewatching. **

5 out of 5 stars For Vampire Lovers.......2007-07-16

I love this movie, vampires and werewolves against each other, it was awesome! I like this movie a lot more than part two (underworld evolution). Part 2 wasnt as great.

Move over, Vin Diesel, because The Transporter, Hong Kong action veteran Corey Yuen's English-language directorial debut, is revving up to steal your thunder. As the other top-billed action star to emerge in 2002, British hunk Jason Statham--previously seen in Snatch, Ghosts of Mars, and The One--plays a hard-driving courier for well-heeled underworld clients. He follows simple rules: (1) Stick to the deal; (2) Don't ask names; and (3) Don't look in the packages he transports. All's well until he violates rule 3, discovering a Chinese beauty (Qi Shu) in the trunk of his tricked-out BMW, and foiling a deadly plot to smuggle Chinese slaves through the port of Marseilles. The first hour is ass-kickin' fun, and the stuntwork is impressive throughout, even as the plot degenerates into a predictable series of bone-breaking showdowns. Statham boasts an appealing combination of brains and brawn, suggesting the suave versatility of a promising career. 4 out of 5 stars Some Rules Should Never Be Broken..........2007-09-10

'Some Rules Should Never Be Broken' could have easily been a tagline used in the advertising for this movie. Sometimes when we break the rules the consequences really hit us hard, which is the case for the main character Frank Martin, in the Cory Yuen (acclaimed Japanese action film director) directed surprise smash hit "The Transporter" starring Jason Statham.

"The Transporter" focuses on ex-special forces soldier Frank Martin (Jason Statham) who makes a living transporting various items for high-paying clients who value timeliness, reliability, and above all else, secrecy. He is a man whose life is dictated by a strict set of rules that he abides by; however, on his most recent job Frank makes a costly mistake. He breaks what could be called his 'Cardinal rule', the one that dictates the transporter is to never open the package he is delivering. But once the rule is broken there's no going back. Now, Frank finds himself on the run with the very package he was assigned to deliver, a young Asian girl who has been trailing an international slave trading ring, and he must summon all of his training if both himself and his package are to survive the pursuit.

I'll be honest, when this movie was first advertised to arrive in theaters, I really didn't give much thought to seeing it. There didn't seem to be all that much appeal to my tastes in the movie. To me, I thought it was just another mindless action flick with little to no story, having one action scene after another being held together by flimsy dialogue that wouldn't have even been acceptable by B-movie standards. So, needless to say I merely forgot about the movie for quite some time, until I happened to catch a glimpse of the trailer for the sequel. What caught my eye with this preview was the fact that if this kind of movie was getting a sequel, then maybe there was more to the original film than I had given it credit for. So, shortly before the release of the sequel, I decided to break down and rent "The Transporter" figuring if nothing else, it will distract me for at least 90 minutes, and who knows maybe I'll even be entertained on some level. After all, someone must have thought the original was pretty good if it warranted a theatrically released sequel rather than one that is straight-to-DVD as most sequels of this variety would have been.

The story for "The Transporter" isn't deep by any means, lets not kid ourselves about that. Even though it's not all that original, and contains a basic plot that has been used countless times before, the dialogue was surprisingly well-written, and the fights were flat-out impressive during some of the action sequences, that you easily overlook the simplicity of the story. Of course, when watching a movie such as this, you really aren't looking for something all that complicated, so there are times when simplicity is the better way to go, and this movie is definitely one of those times.

But this movie would have been nothing if not for the charismatic screen presence of the movie's lead, Jason Statham ("The Italian Job"). Statham brought such an easy going attitude to the character of Frank Martin, when coupled with his intense charisma and screen presence, he took what was a run-of-the-mill action flick and elevated it into a hugely entertaining and memorable action movie that thrills audiences from start to finish. The supporting actors were mostly solid in their performances, all the characters were heavily cliched, but some of the actors appeared to take it upon themselves to add depth to their characters, allowing for a much more enjoyable experience. It's no doubt in my mind that they were the primary reasons that this movie wound up becoming a big hit in theaters, raising this film above the mediocrity it was most likely destined for.

Regardless of how good the actors or the story for any action movie may be, the movie will be nothing if it doesn't feature impressive action sequences that blow the audiences socks off. Which is exactly what many of the numerous action scenes do in "The Transporter", and what's more impressive is that Jason Statham performed a majority of all his stunts. With his intense screen presence that can't be ignored, and his impressive athletic ability as showcased in the numerous fight/stunt sequences it's easy to see why Statham is quickly becoming Hollywood's newest action hero.

If you are a fan of martial arts movies, action films from the likes of Steven Seagal and Jean Claude Van Damme, then "The Transporter" is a movie that will be of great interest to you. And in my opinion, will entertain you ten times more than any of Seagal or Van Damme's efforts from recent years, plus the acting and storytelling are better than most entries are in this genre.

"The Transporter" is rated PG-13 for violence, language, and sensuality.

3 out of 5 stars Not much of a let down but fun to watch.......2007-08-30

The opening third of the flick is by far the best part. Frank Martin lives by his three rules: never alter the deal, no names, never open the package. Up until he breaks one of his rules the movie is an interesting look at a man who lives by his own terms in an extremely violent and dangerous portion of the world. Unfortunately after he finds the girl the movie breaks down into a series of cliches and explosions that are less interesting.

I have liked Jason Statham a lot not just in those English gangster movies but in "The One" with Jet Li and John Carpenter's "Ghosts of Mars," he deserves to be a star in his own right and this movie co-starring a vehicle should have been the right vehicle for him. It's a shame he was given so little to do, aside from kicking the crap out of many people, which he does quite handily. There's a lot of talk about "rules" in this movie and the movie itself obeys the rules of martial arts onscreen, one being that when the hero is facing a bunch of bad guys, they're only allowed to attack him one or two at a time, and they're not allowed to have guns unless they stand so close that the hero can disarm them. Jackie Chan's classic shtick of picking up any handy item to use as a weapon is alive and well here, likewise Chan's trademark element of farce/slapstick, e.g. the oil-slick brouhaha. And we have death-defying stunts galore and tire-squealing car chases and all sorts of goings -on. Yet somehow Mr. Statham himself seems to get lost in the proceedings.

It's really not his fault. His character is very sketchily written, the plot seems to have been made up as they went along a la "Casablanca," and the desired chemistry between him and the Chinese heroine just doesn't happen. I don't know who the actress is or what she did previously, and she's, you know, cute and all that, but she just did nothing for me whatsoever, and apparently not much for Jason Statham either. She's no Bai Ling, let's say, much less a Lucy Liu or Kelly Hu or--dare I mention the name--Michelle Yeoh aka Michelle Kwan. She's a cypher and even the writers seem to have grasped that; look how long they keep her bound and gagged onscreen to try to generate some fetishistic interest in what's happening with her. "The Big Hit," another movie with a kidnapped Chinese chick falling for the kidnapper, only took about five minutes to generate the romantic oomph that his one never really achieves. The movie doesn't even bother including the usually obligatory closing shot of the hero & heroine alone together, as though acknowledging they were never really an item. Bottom line, I did enjoy this it's a solid action flick with a lot of high-powered stunts and a winning performance by Jason Statham in the lead, though one wonders what sort of movie would have resulted had Frank just closed the trunk again.

1 out of 5 stars The Transporter (Blue Ray).......2007-08-23

Unfortunately we can not play this on our DVD we dont have Blue Ray or HD
So we were very disappointed

4 out of 5 stars don't break the rules.......2007-06-20

The Transporter is Jason Statham's first big solo role in a movie, and it is a success with the followups of Transporter 2, Crank, and the anticipated upcoming film "War", where he fights one on one against Jet Li. Jason has participated in several films before Transporter in somewhat lesser roles such as "The One" and "The Italian Job", but the Transporter finally lets this man shine - and he brings a character to the screen - Frank Martin - who is intelligent, skillful, strong and one downright cool guy.

The movie has a good and promising beginning, showing off the cool factor of Frank Martin immediately. Followed quickly by an intense car chase scene, the movie never lets up after that - whether it be action or suspense. The story is not too interesting, but it is put together well. Frank discovers that a package he is transporting is carrying a live body inside. Frank's "tough-guy attitude" is worn down and he breaks his own rule by opening the package. The receiver of the package is no dummy, and realizes that Frank broke the rules and has his car destroyed. Frank, fortunately absent from his car during the explosion, seeks revenge but ends up with company along the way by accident - the girl inside the package. From here the story begins to take off as Frank becomes entangled in the situation all the more.

While there isn't a tremendouns amount of action, the spacing of action works well enough. The final 20 minutes are huge, easily containing the best scenes in the movie. I especially liked the fights in the bus garage and the final highway truck scene which reminded me very much of the truck scene from "Raider of the Lost Ark".

Transporter is a great movie for Jason Statham. I really enjoy this guy, and see a good future for him. His martial art skills are truly entertaining, as is his stunts and acting. This is an hour and half of just great relax entertainment.

4 out of 5 stars The Transporter in Blu-ray: Action, Suspense, Romance and Fast Cars!.......2007-05-29

I loved this movie! The story was new and creative! If you like action movies and actor Jason Statham, you'll love this movie. Filmed in the French Riviera!

Video-Blu-ray: This movie enjoys a good transfer-not perfect- but good! You still see some video noise and image grain. Overall, Just slightly better than the SD in term of details with extra grain.

Audio: simply impressive!

Bottom line: You can't go wrong with this one! Action, suspense, romance and fast car chases. If the image grain bothers you, try the SD version-it's not as grainy.

4 out of 5 stars Better on the small screen.......2007-09-14

Most films lose something when they transfer from the movie screen to the tv screen. This is one of those rare movies that actually gains something by being on the small screen. The idea is fairly straight forward. Kate Beckinsale in skin tight latex is a vampire who hunts down Werewolves. In becoming involved with a human she learns that the werewolves are not as close to extinction as the vampires think and in fact they are pretty darn powerful. What follows is a running duel between vampires werwolves and traitors on both sides.
When I saw this in the movie theatre I actually was disappointed. Beckinsale looks great but the vampires seemed less like the feared lords of the night than a Rumanian gymnastics team on a shooting spree. On the small screen this quality drops away and you get a much better idea of what the director wanted it to look like.
the extend cut draws out some of the relationships and adds to the generalatmosphere. On the large screen this was only for fasns of Kate beckinsale in latex. On the small screen this works much much better.

5 out of 5 stars Underworld (Unrated Extended Cut).......2007-05-13

Ok Vampuric Horror fans our Movie has arrived. This film has it all suspense, grate story line and plot, excellent speciall effects, Drama, Suspence and for those that love gothic love stories this one is right up there for you. WearWolf and Vampire Fans a must see.

5 out of 5 stars New, Extended Scenes.......2007-03-13

This version has new and extended scenes that fill in the gaps that your mind normally does and provide more back story on the war and the characters personal lives. The most notable is Michael's back story (for those of you who wondered who that girl was in the picture in his apt.), and an extended look at the back story of the war and Lucian's "defeat" and also some nudity (because a movie with vampires and no sex makes no sense). Also includes great full length commentary with Len, Kate and Scott.

4 out of 5 stars great werewolf vs vampire movie.......2007-03-09

i really enjoyed this movie but i only gave it 4 stars because of the use of guns in it. werewolves and vampires are formidable enough that they do not need to fight each other with fire arms. that is my only criticism

5 out of 5 stars Awesome vampire movie.......2007-01-11

Without getting into great detail, this was one of the better Vampire / Wearwolf movies out there. Great story, great action, it moves right along with never a dull moments. It's thrilling and will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Description

Underneath the city streets, amid the labyrinth of subway tunnels and gothic ruins, the two most notorious creatures of the night are embroiled in an all-out war that has been going on for centuries. It is the culmination of a blood-thirsty battle between the vampires and their mortal enemies, the werewolves.

Whether you view it as an alternate reality or the illusions of demented mind, Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere is an intriguing place to visit. The Sandman creator's first TV miniseries suffers from the same traditional shortcomings that plague all British "telefantasy"--namely, micro-budget production values and slapdash direction that betrays a conspicuous shortage of rehearsal time. And yet, within those limitations, Gaiman and director Dewi Humphreys have crafted an ambitious exploration of "London Below," a vast, subterranean capital, far below "London Above," where office drone Richard Mayhew (Gary Bakewell) unwittingly finds himself after rescuing Door (Laura Fraser), an underworld dweller determined to learn why her parents have been killed. Gaiman teases the viewer with hints that Richard may be insane, but Neverwhere maintains its imaginative ambiguity, and presents a dark, dangerous domain of baronies and fiefdoms, bearing familiar British nomenclature but decidedly unfamiliar landmarks. Once you've visited, you might prefer to stay. --Jeff Shannon
