PRIDE IS KING OF MMA.......2002-02-01
Wow this video is great, as a die hard UFC fan this is way better
then the Ultimate Fighting Championship.the dan seven vs.kimo
fight was boring but the rest of the fights were great, the best
fight was between akira shoji and renzo gracie.the main event
had the famous rickson gracie,who alot of people thank is the best fighter in the world,vs.the famous japanesse pro-wrestler

OK... I've been reading everyone elses reviews and agree that PRIDE is the Premier MMA event on the planet... this isn't a good Pride tournament when you compare it to the likes of PRIDE 11 but it's still ok.... Dan Severn vs Kimo is one of the biggest bores you will ever see in MMA which is a shame but apart from that it's a pretty good card. The Pride fights have superb commentary .. it's not only accurate but alo really funny... a thing missing from alot of MMA , it's nice that the commentators are having fun.. Bas Rutten's pretty funny.
there are better PRIDES than this one... don't make it your only PRIDE FC tournament, but it would like really nice in your collection.
Inaugural event of top Japanese MMA.......2001-12-11
Lots of impressive names on this tape. Some highlights are Kazunari Muakami's textbook harai-gosh judo throw and the skull-crushing KO ending of the Goodridge/Taktarov fight. That was one that the ref should have stopped earlier. The White/Cikatic fight is kickboxing, and ends in disqualification. Cikatic's tactics wouldn't even be legal in MMA. Mitsuharu Kitao is Koji Kitao from UFC 9. His opponent must not have been told the rules, because he certainly didn't expect to be taken down. His panicked screams are pretty embarassing even to listen to. Rickson triumphs over an ill-prepared Takada.
Beginning of PRIDE.......2001-11-16
This is the very first PRIDE show. It was held on October 11, 1997 at the Tokyo Dome.
The first match is between EFC veteran Kazunari Murakami and IFC Kiev Tournament finalist and AFC veteran John Dixon. Murakami is famous for his win over Bart Vale and his knockout loss to Maurice Smith. This is a good fight but anything great.
The second fight is between UFC 6 Champion,Ultimate Ultimate 1995 finalist, WVC and MARS veteran Oleg Taktarov and UFC 8 finalist,IVC 1 Tournament winner Gary Goodridge. Taktarov has wins over Dave Beneteau, Marco Ruas and Tank Abbott. Goodridge has wins over Cal Worsham and Jerry Bohlander. This has one of the most brutal knockouts in history of Mixed Martial Arts.
The third fight is between MARS and World Combat Championship tournament winner Renzo Gracie and Lumax Cup 1997 veteran Akira Shoji. Gracie has a knockout win over Oleg Taktarov. This was a great fight to watch and was the best fight on the show.
The fourth fight is between Universal Vale Tudo and UFC 9 veteran Koji Kitao and newcomer Nathan Jones. This is alright fight but nothing special.
The fifth fight is a kickboxing fight between Ralph White and the K1 Grand Prix 1993 8 man tournament winner Branko Cikatic. Not a good fight at all.
The sixth fight is between UFC 5 and Ultimate Ultimate 1995 Tournament Champion Dan Severn and UFC veteran Kimo. Severn has wins over Oleg Taktarov, Ken Shamrock, Tank Abbott and Dave Beneteau. Kimo is famous for giving Royce Gracie a tough fight. This is not a good fight at all. This fight should be on one of the toughman TV shows.
The main event is between Japan Vale Tudo 1994 and 1995 Tournament winner Rickson Gracie and Pro Wrestler Nobuhiko Takada. This was good fight despite the length.
I recommand this for buying.

Weapon Defenses
Mr. Saladino will discuss and demonstrate the stick, knife, gun and cane confrontations. See some very invaluable weapon defenses and the importance of learning and understanding how to put them into great action as a last resort.
The more I watch Mr. Saladino, the more I like what Mr. Saladino teaches. After having watched several of his tapes, I highly recommend this series, based on what I've seen so far. And forget purchasing just 1 or 2 of Mr. Saladino's tapes! Even though each tape can stand on its own, and benefit a person greatly, the real beauty of this system is learning to use and combine what's taught on each of his tapes, especially the last 3 we've reviewed. If a person were to really dedicate oneself to learning each of those 3 tapes, they'd have one heck of a fighting system. And if that's not a strong enough recommendation about this series, let me put it this way, "Because of it's thorough and complete utilization of various martial arts techniques, and it's infinite possibilities, this is THE style I wish I'd started out with 20 years ago!"

Fighting Fantastic.......2003-06-19
This DVD and all of the pride dvd's is worth a buy.
The supplemental stuff is weak, and unfortunately it's the same on all the pride DVD's. So once you've seen it once, thats that!!.
However the fighting, the fighters and the prodcution are top notch. It's not just blood and guts it's style and panache, check out Sakuraba, unbelievable.

Firstly I would recommend any DVD featuring Marco Ruas (with the exception of UFC 21 v. Maurice Smith), and his fight against Goodridge does not disappoint, with both fighters putting up a good showing.
Sakuraba fights well, and show glimpses of what lies in the future for him, as does Renzo with an impressive performance.
The only downside is the Kerr fight, with some boring tactics from Branco.
Overall a good show, and well worth watching

Rolls and Falls
This area of instruction is much needed no matter what style an individual trains in or no matter what rank an individual claims to have. Mr. Saladino provides excellent information and training tools on how to effectively fall and roll in a variety of scenarios. This is highly important should an individual get thrown down, need to escape from an attack or would like a new exercise routine to build conditioning and fitness.
The more I watch Mr. Saladino, the more I like what Mr. Saladino teaches. After having watched several of his tapes, I highly recommend this series, based on what I've seen so far. And forget purchasing just 1 or 2 of Mr. Saladino's tapes! Karate!!!.......2007-04-19
Larry Lee stars as a young man that just wants to learn karate. A teacher takes him on and sees real potential in him. The elder brother of the school wants to marry the master's daughter so that he can become the next master of the school, but instead she falls in love with the incredibly ugly Larry Lee. This of course leads to trouble, but luckily Bruce Liang is one of Larry Lee's teachers and he becomes a karate expert.
The action gets a little repeticious, that is until Bruce Liang shows up. There is no undercranking (which is astonishing), but Bruce Liang no doubt will make you think there is. Most will know him as The Beast from 'Kung Fu Hustle', but he is truly one of the best kung fu performers on screen ever. His fists are lightning fast and his kicks are second to none. Words really can't describe how good he is.
The movie is called Black Belt Karate, so it was nice to see all the actors that are also karate experts. Bruce Liang, Billy Chong (he is awesome in this), Lo Lieh, and Larry Lee helped this movie out quite a bit.
I wish I could give a rating higher than 3 stars since Bruce Liang gives such a great performance, but the movie is only average.

DVD from Crash Cinema is presented in it's original language with good English subtitles and the picture is letterboxed! The picture quality has heavy speckling at times, but you won't miss out on any of the action, and that's what is most important.
