Historic Social Guidance Films DVD School Rules & Spirit We all hate the rules at times, but understand that they are a necessary part of society. The School Rules & Spirit DVD includes some priceless films, some imaginative and some surprisingly progressive. Issues and questions addressed in this collection are discipline, importance of rules, why we have rules, and the fun of school spirit, because after all, "You couldn't be proud of a noisy classroom could you?" Films Table of Contents: (1) Holiday From Rules (1959) - Off-beat film following a group of kids who use their imaginations to go to a deserted island where there are no rules. The kids learn the hard way, that rules are important, when a boy breaks his arm and a girl goes swimming in shark infested waters. Length: 00:10:50 (2) How Quiet Helps At School (1953) - The right time for noise is on the playground. Schoolteacher, Miss Bradley and her class demonstrate the differences between a noisy classroom and a quiet classroom. Length: 00:10:31 (3) Maintaining Classroom Discipline (1947) - One of the gems of all the historical films collection, Maintaining Classroom Discipline, is an instructional video for teachers about how to interact with students. The reasons for students misbehaving and disrupting class are covered as well as exactly what kinds of discipline are acceptable. A Must See!!! Length: 00:14:55 (4) School Rules: How They Help Us (1953) - "Rules keep things going smoothly and fairly" in this film full of scenarios where rules help keep people safe and having fun. Length: 00:10:08 (5) What About School Spirit (1958) - Film follows Bob Courby, the captain of the Lawrence High School basketball team, who's school spirit is contagious. Bizarre ending because unfortunately, Bob get really sick. Length: 00:25:00 Total run time is approximately 1 hour

    5 out of 5 stars Sober documentary.......2006-02-13

Caution: Do not confuse with the Sci-Fi Channel's series of the same name!

No theatrics here, just sober investigations into several purported hauntings. This is not a "balanced" documentary: The emphasis is on evidence in favor of the proposition that these hauntings are real. The film features extensive witness monologues instead of sound bites intercut with special effects and spooky music, as is too often the case in this genre. Some, including at least one reviewer here, may find this approach dull. I found it informative and serious. Usually I find shows like this funny or embarassing.

    5 out of 5 stars I've got to say it's good. I'm in it!.......2005-01-26

We shot this series back in the UK in 1997 and it was the first of a whole host of "Paranormal" programmes on TV. It came long before "Most Haunted" and the like, and was the Discovery Channel's biggest programme in the UK with over 4 million viewers.

All the stories were so well researched, I believe it is still one of the most honest ghost documentary series ever produced.

My main appearance was in The Phantom Schoolmaster (Disc 1), and that one episode took almost 4 days to shoot which is something not heard of nowadays! The research was real and the stories came from reliable witnesses.

But I could be biased! Have a look for yourself. If you don't like it then you can sell it on an auction site!

After all, there must be something in it. Discovery are still re-running it in the UK after 8 years!

    Cheers!

All four "Ghosthunter" DVDs are well worth your money and time.
It is true that the episodes are all based in Britain, and that's just fine. England is the ghost capitol of the world!
All episodes are well written and very well done. There is a good bit of English history thrown in of course, because you need to understand the haunted area in order to appreciate the haunting itself.Do yourself a favor, if you are a ghost buff, and buy these DVDs. You won't regret it!

1 out of 5 stars not worth the money.......2007-07-16

This movie was everything that being a young teen in the 80's revolves around, waiting for that one 5 second shower scene to play. I think I would rather watch the original punisher movie and punish myself before I wasted money on this.

3 out of 5 stars Strange... but kinda funny!.......2004-12-07

This is one those 80's films that video stores would put next to popular titles like "Meatballs", "Porky's", and "Screwballs" hoping that they would attract the same customers and i guess they did, because i fell for it.

Now i really don't remember the film that well, but i bought it recently (still waiting for it!) so i guess i'll just tell you what i do remember. It's takes place in a high school (duh!) and there's this student who dies (don't remember how but it's a stupid death) then comes back and realizes that nobody sees him. Awesome! Look for him in the shower of the girls locker room (like the Dvd cover), lifting up their skirts in the hallways, and getting back at other students who tormented him when he was alive.

Now i know there was a point to this film, but back in the 80's as a young kid..i really didn't care, i guess i just wanted to laugh and see a little T & A (didn't we all?) and i guess it had both so i enjoyed it.

Now being a bit older, i'm curious to see how this movie aged so i guess we'll have to wait till i get the movie in the mail.

    Wait....I JUST GOT IT!!

This is one of..no wait, the worste 80's b movie I've ever seen, and I've seen alot. From the cover of the movie you may get some crazy ideas, but don't let the cover fool you. There is one good lockerroom seen, but it only last for a couple of seconds, and the other 89 minutes or so of the movie has a bad plot, screen writing and acting.

It took Ippo Makunouchi 76 episodes of the broadcast series Fighting Spirit (2000) to win the featherweight championship of Japan; in this 2003 special, he defends his title for the first time. The challenger is Sanada Kazuki, a rich, suave medical student who boxes as an avocation. He's coached by Dankichi, the master of the "Flying Swallow" punch and the arch-rival of Kamogawa, Ippo's trainer. The outcome of the title match may never really be in question, but the depth of the characters sets Fighting Spirit apart from other battle-oriented anime. Unlike Baki Hanma in Baki the Grappler, Ippo isn't a bully who delights in thrashing others. He begins the TV series as a high school dork who's always getting the sushi beaten out of him by the local toughs: under Kamogawa'stutelage, Ippo reinvents himself. But even as a buffed-out champion with 12 knock-outs to his credit, Ippo enters the ring feeling like a challenger who doesn't know what it means to feel strong. Nor can he summon the courage to tell Kumi he's in love with her. Fighting Spirit remains underrated in America: its stylized action sequences and endearing characters deserve a wider audience. (Rated 13 and older: violence, alcohol and tobacco use, minor profanity) --Charles Solomon

    Description

Ippo Makunouchi's first title defense match is against a relentless challenger named Kazuki Sanada, but this isn't just any formidable pugulist. Sanada also happens to be a medical school student, and using his thorough knowledge of human biology, he knows which parts of the body to hit in order to defeat an opponent and the skills to accurately deliver the most damaging blows, while draining away an opponent's stamina. Not only does Ippo face a tremendous boxer who possesses the most intellectual fighting skills in Japan, but Sanada's trainer, Dankichi Hama, was also Chief Kamogawa's rival during his prime, and is now sharing his legendary fighting technique, the "Flying Swallow" with Sanada. It's Ippo vs. Sanada and the explosive collision of the coaches, Chief Kamogawa vs. Dankichi Hama - each of these individuals' thoughts entangle as the day of the battle finally arrives! Will Ippo be able to overcome the deadly "Flying Swallow" and claim victory?

    Customer Reviews:

    4 out of 5 stars DR. FIST.......2007-01-26

When the Fighting Spirit tv series ended with Volume 15, Ippo was left holding the Japanese Championship belt in his hands after a brutal contest with Sendo. He's healing quite nicely and becoming a bit complacent when an old rival of Chief's from his fighting days shows up asking for a bout between Ippo and his own fighter. The guy denies any ulterior motives to revenge himself upon the Chief for ending his boxing career decades ago. But it's left unsaid that if his fighter can defeat Ippo, it would be the next best thing to fighting and beating the Chief himself. His fighter, Sanada, is a medical student when he's not in the ring, and has studied not only many ways to heal the human body, but also to destroy it! He uses his medical knowledge to pinpoint his opponent's weaknesses and vital areas to greatest effect. Will even Ippo be over to overcome this emotionless fighting machine that exploits the weakness of the flesh?

This dvd is a welcome continuation of a series that seemed abruptly cut off just as Ippo had begun to achieve his dreams and ambitions. Even after all his fights, he still has yet to understand what true strength is, so he's a bit of a work in progress even now. That's one thing I like about this show and Ippo. He never gets time for his success to go to his head. Ippo is constantly wanting to improve himself and become stronger and comes to the slow realization that everyone will now be gunning for him, the Champion. This quest to become an even better fighter unfortunately doesn't lead to much progress in his relationship with his girl "friend", Kumi, which is a little frustrating to me. The unnecessary delay in revealing his true feelings to her is right out of Rumiko Takahashi. It's ironic too, in the sense that Ippo has such a strong heart and indomitable will but can't even tell a girl he loves her. If you haven't watched the previous fifteen volumes, there's little sense in watching this dvd. If you are a fan of the show, it will be like the tv show never ended.

I watched the DVD with my 7 year old daughter and I must say that I never thought I would enjoy it so much. And not only was the movie great, but so were the games. She just wanted to play them over and over again. I highly recommend this movie to everyone as it reminded me of my childhood.

4 out of 5 stars Kids loved it! A clean, fresh snowfall on a classic........2005-11-28

This movie is a great update of the classic, with the added insight of today's world. It's got humor that appeals to today's kids and voices they're familiar with: the guys who do Spongebob and Patrick!! (Burt Reynolds is great to hear narrating and singing--he's from my era!) This version, finally, holds my kids' attention. I am relieved to have a good Christmas (Holiday) movie for my kids to watch, without having to overcome some of the dated references. Wholesome, funny, fast-paced. Well done!

My kids are running around my house quoting the movie--which is the true barometer of a good movie these days. They've probably burned a laser-hole in the DVD by now!

      Highly recommended DVD.

5 out of 5 stars An instant classic!.......2005-11-08

Legend of Frosty is a warm, endearing movie that is true to the original while being original in its own right. The story, characters, and animation were on par with my favorite holiday specials, and Burt Reynolds was perfect as the narrator. More importantly, the toughest critics of all, my kids, loved it more than I did. It's a great movie to watch with the whole family.
