Carry on Columbus.......2007-01-09
One of the best of the Carry on series, probably because most of the old cast is not in it any more. I liked Jim Dale in "Carry on Doctor" and "Carry on again Doctor" and bought Columbus for this reason.
90 minutes of lovable, laughable nonsense.
To All The Critics.......2006-01-12
I saw this film a few years ago when they played it a few times on HBO. I thought it was damn funny. Only after seaching for this film on DVD did I find out that it was one in a long line of "Carry On..." films, and it did not have most of the original cast, mostly because they are no longer with us. Well, all I have to say to the critics of this film is: If this is the worst of the lot, then the others must be real side-splitters! Because THIS was a very funny film. From the prospective of a "non-Carry on" enthusiast, I would say that "Carry On Columbus" has been harshly over criticised by hardcore fans here who have a difficult time accepting change. I have no doubt that the other "carry on" films were timeless classics, and I intend to see them all. But this film was the one I came here to buy, and when it comes in the mail, I'm gonna sit and watch it and laugh my tushie off just like I did when I saw it on HBO. And that's MY fair and un-predjudiced opinion. I Thought it was funny. So what if it's not the original cast...neither was STAR TREK/THE NEXT GENERATION when it first came out. Look what we would have missed if we had just turned it off and complained that there was no Kirk & Spock? Take my word for it, this is a funny film. Don't let the hardcore fanatics cheat you out of a good chuckle. And since we are preaching open-mindedness, let's check out the other "carry on" films too, and see what all the fuss is about. New things don't scare me.
Terrible conversion.......2005-03-06
Forget the poor quality of the acting, and the fact its not a real "Carry On" film in the sense theres almost none of the original cast.
Its the poor unwatchable quality of the film thats horrendous.
If thats been "digitally remastered" i have to assume it's from a 35mm home movie camera that had the lens cap on.
Utter rubish considering the technology available today.
ok but lacks spirit........2004-12-31
As for most people that says this film is rubbish, well i could agree to a certain extent, but however i think the film is ok in terms of the acting and script, ok so most of the original cast was no present but they are no longer with us so what can we do about it, i would recomend this strictly for the carry on fan, some great performances from jim dale and julian clary,
UTTER RUBBISH.......2004-12-30
Do not buy this, it is utter utter utter rubbish, made on the back of the original Carry On's years later, this would have the original cast turning in their graves. It is British comedy at its worst, the script is just full of old one liners which we've heard all before, innuendo which is just crude and not even funny. This film should not be associated at all with the Carry On name and should never have seen the light of day. The sad thing is that the film stars many of UK's biggest commedy acts such as Julian Clarey, but he must have been scrapping the barrel to star in this. Nil point from me.
