Kids will be drawn to Kangaroo Jack because of the playful antics of a computer-generated kangaroo; however, they'll probably be bored stiff as they endure the absurd and over-elaborate plot. Charlie (the charmless Jerry O'Connell) and his best friend Louis (the reasonably amusing Anthony Anderson) run afoul of Charlie's mob boss stepfather. He insists that they deliver $50,000 to a mystery man in the Australian outback--or else. Along the way, these two dimwits put Louis's bright red jacket (which happens to contain the money) on a kangaroo they think they've accidentally killed, which awakens and bounds off. Belabored and nonsensical chases follow, along with the usual realizations about the importance of friendship, etc. Kangaroo Jack has a lot more sexual innuendo and violence than you'd expect, none of which is either funny or thrilling. Christopher Walken and Estella Warren get through their supporting roles largely unscathed. --Bret Fetzer

4 out of 5 stars FUNNY! FUNNY!! ...FUNNNNNNNNY!!!.......2007-07-09

May not be for the under 12 crowd, and more like PG-13 rather than PG, but one of the best slapstick comedies to come along in years. And with all the rauch in films today, I can't believe some of the reviews I'm reading. Very little to make you blush in this one. So if you're over 12 and want an extremely fun experience, Kangaroo Jack will keep you laughing. Even the comment about being "eaten like that baby" when they were surrounded by dingos, referring to the 1980 baby Azaria/Lindy Chamberlain dingo abduction at Ayres Rock, was not done distastefully as some have complained.

With some of the other popular comedies in recent years, widely viewed by many children(Coming To America, The Nutty Professor, Rush Hour) to name but a few, compare them to the scenes and language of Kangaroo Jack. You'll be asking what's all the fuss about too. Almost innocent in comparision. Outstanding Kangaroo effects, great comedic pairing.

4 out of 5 stars This IS a funny and entertaining movie........2006-11-19

I'm really surprised how this movie has gotten some bad reviews here.
Sounds more like some people didn't like it because it doesn't conform to their own ideas of what a movie should be. I loved it for it's originality and entertainment. The whole family liked this one. No it's not a 5-star movie to go on the classics list. But it is a good movie. Enjoy it.

3 out of 5 stars A FEW KICKS HERE AND THERE.......2006-11-13

I'm sure that CSI producer Jerry Bruckheimer doesn't hold this somewhat lame movie close to his heart, but it's really not all that bad. KANGAROO JACK, the titular hero, is NOT a talking kangaroo, but the CGI generated marsupial does provide a few laughs. Jerry O'Connell stars as the stepson of gangster Christopher Walken in an atypically ineffective performance> He and his buddy (the annoying Anthony Anderson) find themselves off on a courier mission with $50,000 to Australia. Once there, however, they lose the money when Anderson puts his jacket with the money in it on the kangaroo, who they thought was dead. Aha, he's not and the roo makes off with the dough and Walken sends his own son to take care of things. Along the way, they meet the lovely Estella Warren and start off on their journey on farting camels.
Yes, it's a silly movie, but a good time passer if you don't have anything else to watch.

This is a stupid movie. There's nothing wrong with stupid movies. If you want to see something stupid, watch this. You will be entertained by how stupid it is. If you want to see a serious well done movie, don't watch this. You won't like it. The whole movie is just an excuse to make a cgi kangaroo. Why? I guess some crackpot thought kids would like it, and then somehow it snowballed into...this. They didn't even try to make the kangaroo cute. It's just like omg what is going on in the world everyone is crazy. Someone said let's make a movie about a cgi kangaroo, and the response was a nonchalant "sure, whatever, here's 60 mil".

As the title suggests, the adventurous kangaroo christened Jackie Legs by his human friends has left his Outback habitat for the United States, although not voluntarily. The humans have cleaned up their act in this animated sequel to the 2003 live-action movie. Gone are the violence and all but a smidgen of potty humor, as once again Louis puts his beloved Brooklyn jacket on the runaway Jackie. But this time the clothed marsupial is bouncing through the streets of Vegas, thanks to the smuggling plot of a smarmy animal-act proprietor. (Think a criminally minded Crocodile Hunter with a Siegfried and Roy-like show.) Louis is joined by pal Charlie and his sister Jessie in a Scooby-Doo-style effort to figure out the real crime (the smuggling of ancient Aboriginal jewels), track down Jackie, and return him to his family. Along the way there's some kickboxing, a rap number, and plenty of slapstick humor. (Ages 5 to 11) --Kimberly Heinrichs

    1 out of 5 stars G'DAY!!! :-D :-D :-D OHHH THIS IS SPLENDID!!!!!!!!!! :-D.......2005-10-13

HI peoples, how is things? I don't know why this Martin Score-See-and-say guy keeps making movies with all those angry guys like Robert De Nero and Joe Pessy, with all those loud, unhearable music songs. There's no need for those awful, awful "Taxi Driving", "Raging Bull", "Casinoes", and "Goodfellows" moogies when we have... oh... :-D... KANGAROO JACK 2: G'DAY USA!!! :-D :-D :-D

I foist heard about this moogie the other day at the Discount DVD Store near my daycare in Pennsylvania (!!!). The first one was sheer sinnematic BRILLIANCE! I mean the CGI! The Kangaroo RAPPING!!! :-D WHO NEEDS A SCRIPT?!?!? ANYHOO I see'd my friend Bert, moonlighting at the Discount DVD store, and I said "HEY BERT, BUENOS NACHOS!!! ;-) HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! What kind of DVD's we gots today?" He said "Well Mervie, we got some returns on Kangaroo Jack 2."

The next thing I knew I was being kicked awake in the hopsital!!! THEY MADE A KANGAROO JACK 2?!?!? WHAT ELSE HAVEN'T YOU TOLD ME?!?!? I GOT THE DVD RIGHT AWAY!!! :-D :-D :-D I showed it to my little ones! Oh my this is WONDEROUS! :-) I love it sandwiched right between VeggieTales and The Rules Of Attratcion! :-D FORGET anything with that Score-see-and-say's name on it, it's too INTRICATE AND VIOLENT!!! :-O BUT THATS OK BECAUSE KANGAROO JACK 2!!! :-D :-D :-D

I would give it FULL MARKS, but "G'Day" is improper slang, and if kids start spelling it that way as opposed to "Good Day", that is not good. But so whatux? :-D BUY IT OR YOUR KIDS WILL GO BLIND!!! :-D MERVIE!!!!!!!!

    4 out of 5 stars Boundless Fun.......2004-12-16

Finally, a sequel for kids! It's nice to see a child's cartoon differ from the original box office smash. The context is cleaned up enough that kids of all ages can watch without fear of what might come out of the stars' mouths.

The bonus feature showcases a live baby kangaroo making it's way up to his mama's pouch and several shots of baby kangaroos jumping in and out of their mama's pouch. Having never seen that before, I thought the video was worth purchasing for that alone. Young children will get a kick out of National Geographic's short skit.

The only drawback was the fact that they jump from the main storyline to a scene where Kangaroo Jack begins boxing and rapping. It left me bewildered, until Louis wakes up and talks about his dream. This one bit could have been saved for the bonus features. When I made the comment aloud, my 9-year-old daughter said, "Mom, it was meant to be funny; to make kids laugh. There was no purpose to it." I smiled and said, "well if they were gearing towards kids, they did it right."

      4 out of 5 stars wooh.......2006-09-21
