Porky's
Reviled by critics and embraced by the public during its initial run (1981), Porky's is interesting to watch after all these years. What holds up about this horny coming-of-age tale is remarkable. Writer/director Bob Clark has little more than sex and practical joking on his mind, and his high school seniors from Angel Beach, Florida, rapidly move from one to the other. Clark displays a sense of timing and, perhaps rarer still, a sense of male friendship--its brutalities and its bonds--that feels right, not artificial. Surprisingly, the showcase practical jokes are still funny: the Everglades encounter with Cherry Forever, the hole in the girls' shower, and Beulah Balbricker, the humongous gym teacher. The comedic set-ups and payoffs surprisingly still work. Clark's insistence on a subplot about anti-Semitism, however, still sticks out as A MESSAGE. Kim Cattrall really got her start here (although almost no one else did) as Ms. Honeywell, a.k.a. "Lassie." Clark later distanced himself from the irritating Porky's sequels and went on to make the wonderful Christmas Story, the tale of a little boy who wants a BB gun for Christmas. --Keith Simanton

Porky's II: The Next Day
The inevitable sequel to the surprise hit movie marks a noticeable change in tone, as the horny kids from the first film fight religious fanatics in order to put on a stage show. Though the gang is still as mischievous as they were the night before, most of the raunchy humor from the first film has been dropped. In its place are some surprisingly effective passages dealing bluntly with sex, love, anti-Semitism, and religious tolerance in the repressed South of the 1950s. It's this turn that makes the sequel a surprise and something distinctive from its predecessor. --Robert Lane

Porky's Revenge
Bare breasts, practical jokes, greaser hairdos, and cars with big fins--it must be another Porky's movie! Porky's Revenge continues to fuse sexploitation and 1950s nostalgia, though by this point the adolescent hijinks feel a bit rote. On the verge of graduation, Pee Wee, Meat, and the other three interchangeable guys (winnowed down from the larger gang of the first two movies) try to help their basketball coach out of a jam by revealing to the authorities that fat, foul-tempered Porky has rebuilt his illegal casino/whorehouse--but when they get caught, they promise Porky they'll throw the state championship to save their lives. This flimsy plot is intertwined with other disconnected bits about Pee Wee having the hots for a foreign exchange student (Playboy Playmate Kim Evenson), Meat being forced to marry Porky's daughter, a contraband stag film, a biology teacher with a sideline as a dominatrix, and of course the eternal presence of women's coach Beulah Balbricker (Nancy Parsons), that towering mixture of prudery and repressed lust. Writer/director Bob Clark had nothing to do with this sequel, so it's unsurprising that the genuine fondness he brought to the characters is long gone; now they're just generic horndog teenagers. Still, most fans of the series rate this one higher than Porky's II: The Next Day. --Bret Fetzer

5 out of 5 stars My porky's expierence.......2007-09-02

Ok, I personally don't really like these movies. They're kind of funny but not my cup of tea. My husband on the other hand really and truly enjoys them. When he watches the movies he says every word in the film with the characters... rather annoying in my opinion. My husband flipped when I gave it to him! He wasn't even aware they were out in DVD let alone a set. Well worth the price!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Porky's is always 'fresh'!!.......2007-07-18

Although the third installment of 'Porky's' does not measure up to the original "Porkys" .... the set overall is a must-have for any fans of the story! The original is an absolute CLASSIC and is incredibly hilarious! The scenes with Kim Cattrall are an added BONUS as she is 3 parts GORGEOUS and 1 part hilarious in the gym scene ... a real HOWL! I would highly recommend this 3-DVD set to any 'lover of the Pork'!!!

5 out of 5 stars Finally all three Porky's films on dvd!.......2007-06-02

Porky's the Ultimate Collection contains all three Porky's films. It's about time fox released a Porky's collection. I think the original Porky's has been through what about three or four dvd editions already? With Porky's II only on dvd as a two for one with the original, and that's been out of print for a few years. So, finally with the Porky's the Ultimate Collection, Porky's Revenge makes its dvd debut. It's about time all three Porky's films were made available on dvd, and you can own them for a good price. Heck, even if you just enjoy the original Porky's you might as well pay a few more dollars to get all three of them.

4 out of 5 stars Without Porky's, American Pie wouldn't exist........2007-06-01

I was always hoping that 20th Century Fox would release the entire Porky's Trilogy on DVD some day. Well after re-release after re-release of the first film on DVD and the second film only available in a 2-pack with the first film, FOX finally did it. However I was disappointed with the special features. I am glad that a commentary by director (the late) Bob Clark was included, but I was also hoping that we would hear from some of the boys from Angel Beach. Getting their thoughts on being involved in one of the funniest film franchises in history would have been very exciting and funny at the same time. I also had hoped for a documentary with the actors, it would have been nice to see what they do and look like now while they talk about the films. But unfortunately all we got was a 15 minute mini-documentary from Bob Clark on his thoughts (and those were only on the first film in the trilogy). A second small documentary was included with the first disc with a couple of comedians giving their thoughts on the first movie (why we hear from them and not the actors beats the hell out of me).

Still for anyone who has ever grown up with these films or is just getting into them, coming across the entire trilogy on DVD for a good price is a great opportunity. If you are in your local Wal-Mart and you find it for $[...] I wouldn't pass it up (that is if you haven't bought it used on Amazon.com).

5 out of 5 stars Fox video at last has done it again!!!.......2007-05-30

Well as I said with the Revenge Of The Nerds Collection, so do I say with Porky's. I am glad that Fox Home Video FINALLY got ALL three Porky's movies out on DVD. I loved watching all three and think that all of them are classics! The first one is without a shadow of a doubt funny. The second one was somewhat cool....but the third one was a little bit different than the other two. But, it was the only one that didn't get DVD recognition which to me is why it needed it and I am glad FOX did that. Enjoy!!!

I saw this movie when it first came out in theaters. I bought the movie when it came out on VHS. I'll buy the movie again if it comes out on HD-DVD. Otherwise, I'll keep my VHS player tuned up :)

4 out of 5 stars Turns the Animal House premise into a sub-genre of its own..........2007-08-02

...and then goes it one better. I'm sure it wasn't lost on the creators that "American Graffitti" turned out to be a classic and then morphed into the equally-classic TV series "Happy Days". Where this eventual trilogy differs from "Animal House" is that the National Lampoon release never made any bones about being a Rock'n'Rowdy romp, done in broad strokes, where the "Porky's" series gives us characters we can like as people. Like the hapless Pee Wee (Dan Monahan), whose agonizing over his virginity gives you the feeling he considers late middle-age to be right around the corner. Or Wendy (Kaki Hunter), one of those girls who always ends up the topic of male bull sessions. The difference is that everybody likes her because she's got a great personality and a great sense of humor, particularly when she winds up the butt of the now-legendary "Mike Hunt" prank played by Pee Wee. It's ironic how the two figure in the ending. The portly namesake of this film and his redneck nightclub end up being almost incidental to the story because of the way it focuses on these kids and their antics.

4 out of 5 stars Funny and enjoyable teen sex comedy from the 80's........2007-07-17

In the early 50's in Flordia, six sex crazed teen boys want their sexual cravings to be fulfiled even if they have to peek in the girl's locker room. They decides to go to a raunchy strip bar called "Porky's" where their erotic dreams can come true until the owner known as Porky himself boots them out, now the boys must come up with a clever scheme to get revenge.

Very entertaining and funny sex comedy from Bob Clark who gave us "Black Christmas (1974)" and "A Christmas Story" that became a critically bashed but unexpected box-office hit back in 1982. It gives the viewers the truth behind teen horniness back in the fifties in a sleazy and funny view, the film contains Kim Cattral long before she become a successful actress as a sexy cheerleader that howls whenever she's in heat. With the success of this movie, it lead to two sequels and the teen sex movie craze in it's wake with an upcoming remake by Howard Stern coming soon.

This Special Edition DVD has good picture and sound with very good extras like a full length audio commentary by the late Bob Clark, Trailers to this and "Porky's 2 and 3", Video Game Sales Pitch, TV Promos and two featurettes.

Also recommended: "American Pie Trilogy", "Revenge of the Nerds", "Road House", "Animal House", "Road Trip", "EuroTrip", "Van Wilder", "There's Something about Mary" and "The 40 Year Old Virgin".

5 out of 5 stars "I've never seen so much wool. You could knit a sweater!".......2007-05-24

Without a doubt, this is the one that "started it all." THE essential sex comedy, not just of the 80's, but of all time. Is it the best movie ever made in this genre? Perhaps not. But any film in the same genre that was ever made after it owes its existence to "Porky's." Prudes are advised to stay FAR away from this, but anyone else looking for some major laughs (and ok, a lot of vulgarity and tastelessness thrown in) have come to the right place. And what's not to love about a movie that features a very young (and ever so hot) Kim Cattrall, and in a nude scene to top it off?

I'm not going to give yet another rundown of the plot, because that's been done more than enough times here. I'll just make some comments on this new "One Size Fits All" DVD edition.

What first stands out to me about this new edition is the great picture quality. It has finally gotten cleaned-up and is a vast improvement over the previous bare-bones DVD edition. Considering the age of this film, it simply looks great on this new DVD. My speakers are of average quality so I can't elaborate on whether the audio is improved or not, but it sounds fine to me.

And now to the bonus material. I wouldn't call it exceptional, but it's definitely nice to finally have a commentary track from director Bob Clark. He adds some great insight into the film. The other 2 major features, "Porky's Through the Peephole: Bob Clark Looks Back" and "Porky's: A Comedy Classic" aren't that different from one another in terms of content, basically retrospective and nostalgic segments by those involved in making the film. Worth a look but nothing earth-shattering. The other features consist of the original trailer, trailers for "Porky's 2: The Morning After" and "Porky's Revenge" and a rather odd segment on the video game presentation.

One thing I find a little disappointing is that no deleted scenes are here. There's a 2-page booklet inside the DVD case that contains more in-depth information about the production of the film, and it says that several scenes had to be altered or cut out completely to avoid getting an "X" rating. Although I'm sure they had their reasons to not include those scenes here, it would have been interesting to see Bob Clark's original and uncut vision of the film.

Still, I give this new DVD presentation an easy 5 stars. Also recommended: the new "Revenge of the Nerds: Panty Raid" special edition DVD.

1 out of 5 stars Funny coming of age movie. Horrible DVD print.......2007-05-13

This movie is funny in an old fashioned way, but the DVD quality of the film print is a noisy, messy looking print. It should be cleaned up for DVD to get rid of the pixels and video noise.

Prudes are advised to stay FAR away from this, but anyone else looking for some major laughs (and ok, a lot of vulgarity and tastelessness thrown in) have come to the right place.

5 out of 5 stars Loved the movie - waiting on the HD-DVD Edition.......2007-09-11

This was another good movie. I rented it with part one. There is no Porky in this movie. Ill keep it short. Pee Wee is in his moms play with his friends and the Reverend wants to shut down Shakespeare. Later on they even give a hard time to the local KKK chapter and catch that the reverend is as much a perv.

5 out of 5 stars Two Hilarious Classics For The Price Of One!.......2005-01-09

Porky's: A classic, as everyone knows. Hilarious scenes include the Cherry Forever incident, the first run in with Mr. Porky, the call for Mike Hunt, the scene with Lassie in the boy's locker room, and of course, the famous shower scene. The movie's good 'cause, as well as being really funny, it's a nostalgic look at a time long gone, and has some good messages about anti-Semiticism and child abuse, all topped off with an awesome revenge scheme.

Porky's II The Next Day: Leonard Maltin called this movie "unrelated to the original." I don't know what movie he was watching, because, although this doesn't have Porky or his bar, this one continues right after part one with the same characters and lots of continuations from the original. A lot of people don't like this 'cause it's missing Porky, but the important thing is the characters are here and just as fun. There's more revenge, all of it rightfully deserved and deliciously done. A very worthy sequel (although Jarvis healed major injuries pretty quickly).

This is a cool DVD. I got it for Christmas, and watch it a lot. The only problem is that Porky's is already available on a singular DVD, so it might have made more sense to relase a DVD with Porky's II The Next Day and Porky's Revenge together, since Porky's Revenge is not yet available on DVD. Ah well, this is still a fun movie set with two really funny classics. Buy it from Amazon now.

4 out of 5 stars Porky's II: The Next Day.......2004-09-06

I saw this movie years ago on HBO & just recently bought it on VHS. Porky's II is actually good, in spite of itself. Pee-Wee & the gang are back for more adventures & more jokes. Although I missed Porky himself, I enjoy watching this movie. I especially enjoy the payback paid to the crooked Reverend Flavel, Commissioner Gebfart, the City Council & the KKK. Porky's II does have a few slow moments, but nevertheless it is enjoyable to watch to get a few laughs.

1 out of 5 stars WHY EVEN MAKE A SEQUEL TO A MOVIE LIKE ''PORKY'S''?.......2003-07-26

THE ABSOLUTE WORST OF THE SERIES. THIS TIME, THE GANG HAS TO FIGHT RELIGIOUS FANATICS TO DO A STAGE SHOW. NOW, I ONLY HAVE 1 QUESTION, WHY DIDN'T THEY BRING BACK PORKY?!!!!! WITHOUT HIM, THIS MOVIE WAS A TOTAL DISASTER. THE PLOT IS SENSELESS [WELL, ALL THE PLOTS FOR THE PORKY'S MOVIES WERE STUPID], THEY'RE HARDLY ANY FUNNY SCENES, AND IT'S JUST UNNECESSARY TO EVEN DO THIS SEQUEL. ABSOLOUTELY BORING AND UNFUNNY ON ALL LEVELS.

2 out of 5 stars nowhere near as good as the original.......2003-04-22

Porky's 2 starts off the day after the first one ends.At first it's funny then it goes down hill from there. If you must see this movie I'd rent it,instead of buying it.The only reason I own it is because I've got the DVD where it has Porkys/Porky's 2.

    1 out of 5 stars Terrible!.......1999-08-17

By far, this is one of the worst films ever made. It doesn't even stand up next to Porky's, which was by no means a classic. I cannot explain how horrible it was.

1 out of 5 stars NEVER BETTER THEN THE ORIGINAL!!!!!!.......1999-05-31

This was a terrible film. The only reason this film is even granted one star (dispight the fact that theres nothing less to give) is some of the jokes are funny. I hate the part where the chick fills her bra up with a bunch of crap. And the KKK part was laughable and dull. Porkey's is a fine series only the first and last films are good.

5 out of 5 stars Ok the stars are from my son.......2007-08-31

I was at Wal-Mart and these Cartoon Craze DVDs were $1 so I decided to buy them for my son thinking he might like them. I bought this one and the Bugs Bunny dvd. Many of the shorts are ones I had never seen and are way older than what I have seen in the past and I found myself not really able to get into them. However, my son who is 2 years old really loves them! And he laughs hysterically at some parts. I know, there are probably better things for him to watch since these have some racial and sexual undertones in a few of the episodes. But he loves Bu-Bu Bunning (that's what he calls all Looney Tunes and any old cartoon he happens upon.
Don't be duped, though, these were $1. You might still be able to find them at Wal-Mart.

3 out of 5 stars good dvd, but too expensive.......2006-09-28

Don't be a sucker like I was. I paid $17 for this dvd, and it is definitely not worth that. However, if you search "Porky Pig" on Amazon, it will bring up another version of the same dvd, and it is currently going for less than a dollar. Just don't be taken advantage of. Go the cheap route. This dvd is worth a buck or two.

5 out of 5 stars God bless these cheap cartoon DVDs!.......2005-08-19

Do you know what's so wonderful about these 99 cent DVDs? They just slap any old cartoon on there without caring a bit. They often put on cartoons that aren't available anywhere else. Both ALL THIS AND RABBIT STEW and JUNGLE JITTERS have been released on cheap videos. Both of those cartoons are banned from TV for being racially insensitive.
The cartoons on THIS collection include:

    PORKY'S CAFE
Directed by Chuck Jones/ Warner Bros.
In this early Jones effort (1942), Porky Pig and Conrad Cat have trouble serving a somewhat bossy customer.

    PORKY'S PRIZE PONY
Directed by Chuck Jones/ Warner Bros.
This is one of the slower WB cartoons. Still, it's very well-done.

    ALI BABA BOUND
Directed by Bob Clampett/ Warner Bros.
This is a wacky Clampett classic, which includes gas-driven camels, a nutball with a bomb tyed over the top of his head and Porky treating us to the song, "She's the girlfriend of the Whirling Dervish".

    CONFUSIONS OF A NUTZY SPY
Directed by Norm McCabe/ Warner Bros.
This is one of the best Norm McCabe cartoons. Which basically features a Nazi (or 'Nutzy') spy trying to throw a bomb, but Porky's dog continually bringing it back to the spy.

    JOE GLOW, THE FIREFLY
Directed by Chuck Jones/ Warner Bros.
While the Disney inspiration is very obvious in this cartoon, this is a true masterpiece, about a firefly that has many problems walking all over the face of a human.

    NOTES TO YOU
Directed by Friz Freleng/ Warner Bros.
This 1941 classic features Porky Pig, who has trouble falling asleep when an annoying cat outside sings various tunes on the fence. This was remade by Freleng in the late 1940s and he improved it quite a bit, replacing Porky Pig with Elmer Fudd and the annoying cat with Sylvester.

    GAY GAUCHO
Directed by Hugh Harman and Rudolph Ising/ Van Beuren
This is an interesting twist in this collection. The only non-Warners cartoon in here is directed by Harman and Ising, the two who directed the very earliest WB cartoons. They left WB in 1933 (say, that rhymes) and stayed breifly at Van Beuren, before they moved to MGM. This classic features Brownie Bear, the already established Van Beuren character who Harman and Ising recreated in this cartoon to look a bit more like their character Bosko, (more on him in a second). This is an upbeat western cartoon that sort of resembles the first Merrie Melodies cartoon LADY, PLAY YOUR MANDOLIN.

    THE BOOZE HANGS HIGH
Directed by Hugh Harman and Rudolph Ising/ Warner Bros.
One of the earliest Looney Tunes cartoons (the fourth, but who's counting?) This cartoon has the character Bosko, the first Looney Tunes star. The Bosko cartoons very much resemble the Disney cartoons of that time, but they are good enough to rival even the Disney's. This one has Bosko and a couple of drunk pigs singing, that's basically all there is to it.

If there is a single cartoon on here that you haven't seen, I suggest you buy it. The cartoons are great, and so is the price.

1 out of 5 stars Little Rascals Collection.......2007-04-24

Buyer beware. I would rate this collection with zero stars if I could. The packaging is terrible. Nothing else about a DVD can matter if it is scratched and won't play correctly. The first set I received, arrived with Disc One loose and scratched. It played very poorly. Sound and picture were ruined. I returned the entire set as instructed. The replacement set came with all the discs loose. Some of the center plastic holder "things", I don't know the correct term, are damaged and can't hold the discs. I am very disappointed.
