With no fewer than eight couples vying for our attention, Love Actually is like the Boston Marathon of romantic comedies, and everybody wins. Having mastered the genre as the writer of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and Bridget Jones's Diary, it appears that first-time director Richard Curtis is just like his screenplays: He just wants to be loved, and he'll go to absurdly appealing lengths to win our affection. With Love Actually, Curtis orchestrates a minor miracle of romantic choreography, guiding a brilliant cast of stars and newcomers as they careen toward love and holiday cheer in London, among them the Prime Minister (Hugh Grant) who's smitten with his caterer; a widower (Liam Neeson) whose young son nurses the ultimate schoolboy crush; a writer (Colin Firth) who falls for his Portuguese housekeeper; a devoted wife and mother (Emma Thompson) coping with her potentially unfaithful husband (Alan Rickman); and a lovelorn American (Laura Linney) who's desperately attracted to a colleague. There's more--too much more--as Curtis wraps his Christmas gift with enough happy endings to sweeten a dozen other movies. That he pulls it off so entertainingly is undeniably impressive; that he does it so shamelessly suggests that his writing fares better with other, less ingratiating directors. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars The best movie EVER!!!.......2007-09-08

There are so many things that I love about this movie... it would take me an hour to write them all out... so I'll sum it up by saying this- this is a movie that leaves you feeling strangely optimistic about humanity. I know that sounds silly to say about a movie, but it seriously does give you a warm and happy feeling. Everyone I've shown this movie has gone out and bought it. Truly fantastic.

5 out of 5 stars Fun, funny, and wonderful.......2007-09-07

I smiled, I laughed and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie! (I must be a closet romantic.) "Love Actually" runs the gamut of love stories by having several different love stories running at the same time. Each one is enjoyable. What I enjoyed the most was spotting each plot in the other stories and how they each were woven into the whole.

The DVD extras and commentary are also entertaining if you're interested in seeing how the director thinks and how each story line develops.

I won't spoil it for you, but it you're looking for a fun movie that you can watch again and again, this is it.

5 out of 5 stars The Perfect Movie!.......2007-08-24

As my review title says - perfect cast, perfect music, perfect writing =
The Perfect Movie. I hope you can't "wear out" a DVD, because I've watched it so much I might just do that.

    3 out of 5 stars YEAH I LIKED IT.......2007-08-23

Love Actually is a movie comprised of vignettes. It is basically a story about men, their loves, their losses. The step-father who has lost his wife and his step-son who has lost his mother and who is also in love for the first time. The cuckolded husband, the poor drip who can't get laid, the married man pursued by his ammoral secretary, the new prime minister infatuated with his employee, the man secretly in love with his best friend's girl, the porn body-double who is very much a gentleman, and the aged ex-heroin addict ex-pop star. And then there is the poignant addition of the woman who is doomed to suffer unrequieted love.

The movie is fast paced and the editing of the various vignettes form an interwoven story that is funny, sad and entertaining. Hugh Grant's dance scene and Colin Firth's childish tantrum on the sidewalk when he can't get a taxi are hilarious. It's always charming to watch grown men act like little boys!

This movie isn't for children due to mimed sex scenes and naked female breasts.

In my opinion, the one vignette that stole the entire movie is the one about the aged ex-heroin addict ex-pop star staring Bill Nighy. They could have made an entire movie about this character. Most of the laughs are generated by this character as he tries to make a half-hearted come-back with a remake cover of an old song called "Love is All Around." I usually don't find older men attractive but Bill Nighy is so wonderfully weird, strange and clever in his role, that I couldn't help but find him a little bit sexy as the burned out old pop star trying to market his pathetic "turd" of a Christmas song.

This isn't Shakespeare, it's just pure, goofy fun. I'm sure if you watch this film you will be attracted to more then one of the characters and maybe even relate to them in some way.

5 out of 5 stars Worth watching (maybe even more than once); don't skip this one........2007-08-22

So I don't really dig lovey-dovey movies, but this one made the cut. "Love Actually" is a pulp-fiction style movie that deals with how much love bites, but that sometimes, just sometimes, it all turns out ok. It's very well done and will likely leave you feeling better about love, life and relationships. If you check it out, be forewarned that it does have some nudity/ sex scenes, but probably not like you've ever seen before. The movie could have gotten along ok without them, but it's more meaningful than you might first suspect. Pornography IS the most impersonal, irreverent, pernicious form of nudity known to humanity. But this movie capitalizes on that fact by having two porn stars' most intimate, most sincere moment with each other develop with ALL of their clothes ON, on a doorstep, via an awkward chicken-peck on the cheek. It's brilliant. And if you pay extra close attention to the male character's dialog later on, you learn that he's really a virgin anyway. Absolutely brilliant.
If you're a thinker and a lover (and I know you can be or wanna be) you'll dig this movie.

For devoted fans and nonfans alike, Spider-Man offers nothing less--and nothing more--than what you'd expect from a superhero blockbuster. Having proven his comic-book savvy with the original Darkman, director Sam Raimi brings ample energy and enthusiasm to Spidey's origin story, nicely establishing high-school nebbish Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) as a brainy outcast who reacts with appropriate euphoria--and well-tempered maturity--when a "super-spider" bite transforms him into the amazingly agile, web-shooting Spider-Man. That's all well and good, and so is Kirsten Dunst as Parker's girl-next-door sweetheart. Where Spider-Man falls short is in its hyperactive CGI action sequences, which play like a video game instead of the gravity-defying exploits of a flesh-and-blood superhero. Willem Dafoe is perfectly cast as Spidey's schizoid nemesis, the Green Goblin, and the movie's a lot of fun overall. It's no match for Superman and Batman in bringing a beloved character to the screen, but it places a respectable third. --Jeff Shannon

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This was one great "first" movie.......2007-09-14

I've been a comics fan since the 1950s. I loved all the superhero comics.

Spider-Man was introduced in the early 1960's, along with several other Marvel Super Hero comics. I just loved them all.

In many ways I identified mostly with Spider-Man and Daredevil. They are "human" people, in addition to being superheroes. They have their own emotional problems, and their own challenges in their personal lives.

I anxiously awaited this first Spider-Man movie. I wondered how they could handle a character who's been a part of the comic scene for over 40 years. How could they appeal to "comics veterans" like myself, and to younger people who might be seeing Spider-Man for the first time?

I just loved the movie. It reached me on so many levels. Yes, I loved the thrill of action. I loved Tobey Maguire as Spidey, Kirstin Dunce, as MJ... All of the actors seemed just perfect for the parts they played.

Yes, I can't say it enough. I just loved the first Spider-Man movie, and the second one as well.

3 out of 5 stars Please enter a title for your review.......2007-09-10

If you calculated how many other scenes each scene has relevence to you could show this movie to be statistically less cohesive than most. That's the problem with comic book movies, they try to be an origin story and an ultimate showdown between good and evil and cram it all into 90 minutes. There's no ongoing story throughout most of the movie, every marked out plot point is hit and then forgotten, none having an elaborate enough resolution to engage you before they're over.

5 out of 5 stars A Comic Book Movie Done Right.......2007-09-07

When Spider-Man came out people were finally happy to see a comic book movie do justice. The X-Men movie also came out around this time but before this, Superman: The Movie reigned as the best example of a comic book movie, and this is in no way to say that Superman: The Movie or the first Batman are done badly. They could have been even better.

Spider-Man gives you a great character, plenty of action, and a great storyline. It's what action movies strive to do. And Sam Raimi was the perfect director for this one. With The Evil Dead (Book Of The Dead Limited Edition) and The Evil Dead 2 (Book Of The Dead Limited Edition) people knoew he could give these films justice...and did he ever.

These are two of the most packed DVD's in history. It disects the movie from every angle. Two commentaries, a trivia track, plenty of featirettes, and who knows what else are included on these discs. A Must Have for all comic book fans.

    Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars best of the Spiderman movies so far.......2007-08-03

I've seen all three of the Spiderman movies and I think that the first one is the best of the franchise so far. It's a great introduction to Spiderman - how he got his powers, etc. Good blend of action, humor, and romance.

    3 out of 5 stars Nothing special.......2007-07-14

I've been a spidy fan for ever and when I saw they were making a movie I thought Awesome. The move was'nt bad but tobey in the peter Parker role was a disapointment for me after reading the comics. He made a pretty good spidy but Peter he did not.

Molly Ringwald established herself as the teen queen of the '80s in this fresh comedy. The movie is a day in the life of Samantha, whose 16th birthday is turning out to be anything but sweet. All the traumas of teendom come down on one long day, which sees Samantha surrounded by dithery relatives, mooning over a high school hunk, and pursued by a sawed-off Lothario. Sixteen Candles marked the directing debut of John Hughes, and its goofy energy displayed a promising talent with a great ear for high school lingo ... a promise neglected since Hughes became, after Home Alone, a one-man entertainment industry. There are some pretty crass moments (Why the stereotype of the foreign-exchange student from Asia?), but Ringwald's steady appeal smoothes over the rough spots. As the pubescent, self-styled lady-killer, Anthony Michael Hall turns in a hilarious portrait of a young swinger; he and Ringwald would reteam with Hughes for The Breakfast Club, another key teen picture of the decade. --Robert Horton

Sixteen Candles is still a classic like The Breakfast Club. Sixteen Candles is the story of a girl who's parents have forgotten her birthday, and to make it worse she is followed helplessly by a nerd played by Anthony Michael Hall. Molly Ringwald plays the truly tortured Sam, this film still gives me belly laughs everytime. Sixteen Candles is priceless and one of John Hughes's best films to date. I highly recommend this teenage romp out. Enjoy!

Lane Myer (John Cusack) is stuck in a personal hell. A compulsive, adolescent Everyman growing up in Suburbia, USA, not only does he fail to make the prestigious high school ski team (again), but his beloved sweetheart, Beth, also leaves him for Roy, the team's popular, arrogant captain. If this isn't bad enough, he's stuck with a mother who frighteningly experiments--rather than cooks--with food, a brother who builds rockets out of models, and a best friend so desperate for drugs that he settles for snorting powdered snow. Faced with these prospects, Lane opts to end it all ... until he comes up with a ridiculous plan to gain acceptance and win Beth back. Director Savage Steve Holland warps this simple, clichéd premise, letting his wacky imagination twist it into a fairly original, slightly dark, and completely hilarious '80s teen comedy. Not as serious a "suicide-attempt" movie as, say, Harold and Maude but just as funny, the film's more a collection of screwball sketches than a narrative. Holland livens the high jinks with surrealistic fantasy touches, including Jell-O that crawls, a hamburger that sings Van Halen, drawings that mock its creator, Japanese race-car drivers who only speak Howard Cosell, and a psychotic paperboy seeking blood over a missing $2. Cusack puts the whole thing on his shoulders and carries the insanity with another one of his touching, obsessively romantic performances, which, along with Say Anything, The Sure Thing, and One Crazy Summer, made him the quintessential (and appealing) personification of lovestruck adolescence and suffering. --Dave McCoy

With this movie who has a mother that cooks food that always seems to walk off your plate? A funny but short movie with John Cusack in it as the main character. Wanting to beat the popular kid on the mountain slope he goes off to try and win the heart of a girl without killing himself skiing down the mountain. Some good music in this movie, and the best scenes are when his mother tries to cook the food and when she serves it, it seems to walk off their plates. Very 80's and it's a very young John Cusack.

Who else loves this film? Apparently, John Cusack doesn't. Oh well!

The film is about a teenager, Lane Meyer, who is ridiculously obsessed with his girlfriend. After breaking up with her, he tries suicide. Of course, the attempts backfire on him. Meanwhile, she's with a new guy, Roy, captain of the ski team, and he's trying to avoid a paperboy who will try anything to acquire his two dollars, and unbearable events at his house with his off the wall family members. Fortunately, Lane's neighbors have taken in a French exchange student, Monique Junot, who seems to have a crush on Lane. Meanwhile, Lane has to defeat Roy in order to get his girlfriend's respect...

"Better Off Dead..." is DEFINITELY one of the greatest teen comedies ever conceived. It's truly an original, off the wall, hilarious film. Cusack will always be Lane Meyer to me.

The era of Molly Ringwald's profitable collaboration with writer-producer-director John Hughes (Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club) was at its peak with this 1986 film (directed by Howard Deutch but in every sense part of the developing Hughes empire). Ringwald plays a high school girl on the budget side of the tracks, living with her warm and loving father (Harry Dean Stanton) and usually accompanied by her insecure best friend (Jon Cryer). When a wealthy but well-meaning boy (Andrew McCarthy) asks her out, her perspective is overturned and Cryer's character is threatened. As was the case in the mid-'80s, Hughes (who wrote the script and produced the film) brought his special feel for the cross-currents of adolescent life to this story. In its very commercial way, it is an honest, entertaining piece about growing pains. The attractive supporting cast (many of whom are much better known now) does a terrific job, and Ringwald and Cryer have excellent chemistry. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars John Hughes captures teen angst once again..........2007-09-04

What can I say? Yes, I am 49, was out of HS several years before 'Pretty In Pink' came on the scene. Yet to me, a SUPERB classic. It tells of your typical 'poor girl on wrong side of tracks, meets upper crust boy'...and it shines! Molly Ringwald is exquisite in her roll. McCarthy and Cryer, too, are very real and authentic in their roles.

3 out of 5 stars 2 thumbs up for Molly.......2007-08-04

Molly really shines through on this movie. You just begin to realize how talented she really is. She can be sexy, sultry, emotional and funny.
Her acting is underated and the movie itself is excellent. This movie, as with the Breakfast Club, is an excellent learning lesson for teens.
I recommed this movie highly to all, as time has not diminished the message that this great film sends out.

    5 out of 5 stars Pretty in Pink-Great 80s Film.......2007-07-23

Molly Ringwald is awesome in this 80s classic. She is from the wrong side of the tracks and falls in love with someone from the right side. If you enjoy this movie you will alson enjoy Sixteen Canldes.

    5 out of 5 stars 80's Classics.......2007-07-23

Now, Molly Ringwald had to be my most favourite actor of the 80's. This story is sweet too. Being an outcast through highschool, Andy (Molly Ringwald), is a budding designer and she makes up all of her clothes, but gets ridiculed by the popular girls. Who doesn't get teased? But Andy likes Blane, a rich kid who has money and hangs out with the popular crowd. Then there is Duckie, Andy's loyal friend who is totally in love with her, and is against Andy wanting to go out with Blane, as he thinks he will break her heart. And there is Stef (James Spader), who wants Andy, but Andy does not want him. So Stef gets to Blane trying to make out that Andy is crazy and that she is not worth dating. But Blane still likes her. They go out on a few dates, and then he pulls away from her and she gets angry. Then the prom comes, and Duckie takes Andy to the prom and tells her that Blane is a nice guy and not like the others. So Blane sees Andy and she is upset. he walks up to her and tell sher that he loves her. Then he walks away. Andy stares after him, and Duckie tells her to go after him. And so ends the movie of them kissing in the carpark.
A great ending that shows no matter what social class you come from, love will always conquer.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty in Pink review.......2007-07-05

If you're an '80s kid like me there's a good chance you're a fan of John Hughes' Pretty in Pink. When watching this special edition DVD it's apparent that this is the Queen of '80s teen movies. With that said, it's still pretty underrated. I'm surprised at how many people still tell me they never watched this movie!

James Spader plays the extreme a-hole and there's no bigger jerk in all of movies! Molly Ringwald is the quintessential '80s girl acting along with some amazing songs in the background. You also have a quirky "She's so Unusual" type performance from Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz from Ghostbusters), an Oscar worthy showing from Andrew Dice Clay, and even a hot Kristy Swanson as Duckette. You can't go wrong with Pretty in Pink, one of the '80s best teen movies.

Shakespearean comedy and American high school are a match made in heaven--or Hollywood, at any rate. Somehow the exaggerated emotions and budding hormones of adolescence are perfectly suited to Shakespeare's twisty plots, and She's the Man is a perfect example. Viola (Amanda Bynes, What a Girl Wants) is furious when she learns that her high school, Cornwall, has cut the girl's soccer team--so furious that she takes advantage of her twin brother Sebastian (James Kirk, Final Destination 2) skipping town for a few weeks to take his place at his school, Illyria, so she can join the soccer team there. But her disguise as her brother leads to complications when she falls in love with her soccer-playing roommate and the girl he's in love with falls in love with "Sebastian"... Bynes may not be entirely persuasive as a high school boy, but she's got the charm and sprightliness to make the audience follow her anyway. The clever script walks a fine balance, treating the situation realistically enough to make Viola's efforts matter, but zipping along quickly enough that we don't worry too much about the details. As Duke and Olivia--the other two parts of the love triangle--Channing Tatum and Laura Ramsey combine sex appeal with engaging sweetness; the excellent supporting cast includes David Cross (Arrested Development), Julie Hagerty (Airplane!), and former British soccer star Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels). All in all, a delightful bit of fun. --Bret Fetzer

    Description

Amanda Bynes proves that girls can do anything guys can do in She's the Man. The laughs are non-stop when Viola (Bynes), disguised as her twin brother, Sebastian (James Kirk), joins the high school boys' soccer team and helps win the big game while unexpectedly falling for Duke (Channing Tatum) the hot star forward. Viola discovers that dealing with high school politics and twisted love triangles is a major challenge when you're a guy who's really a girl! She's the Man features an ensemble cast of up and coming stars and hit songs from OK-Go, The Veronicas & the F-ups. It's perfect for good-time summer fun!

    5 out of 5 stars Cute Gender-Bending Comedy.......2007-07-12

I really enjoyed this film. It stars a teen girl (Viola) who longs to be a soccer player. When her team gets cut she joins the team of her twin brother's school disguised as him. The ensuing misunderstandings and troubles this causes complicate both their lives.

I really loved the film. I admit I was a little leery when I read this was derived from Shakespeare's 12th night. I know it is plebian but I loathe Shakespeare and don't care for remakes. However this film is thoroughly modern and thoroughly funny.

I particularly enjoyed Viola's male roommate, her hairdresser buddy and the interaction between Vi and her new jock friends. 5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars APRENDIENDO DEL SEXO OPUESTO.......2007-06-30

5 out of 5 stars Not a Chick Flick! Males and Females love this the same! .......2007-06-28

This movie is just hilarious. I went to watch this in theaters when it had just came out with some friends and we all had such a great time because their are so many funny lines to laugh out loud at. Over all this movie relates with guys and girls. And also, this is NOT a chick flick nor is this one of those stupid 'Teen Movies'. It's well written and the acting is great. I seriously could NOT have seen any other person in the staring role than Amanda Bynes - She's hysterical in this film!

I cannot find words to describe how surprised I was with this movie!
I recommend you to watch this movie if your up for a laugh.
*This movie does lean more towards the teen audience but I feel that a parent would enjoy this as well.

    4 out of 5 stars Very funny.......2007-06-02

This was a very well done teen movie, and it is watchable for a much wider audience. This is enjoyable entertainment that just about anyone 13 and up could enjoy. Amanda Bynes was a delight. I will say that Duke had to be a little on the slow side brain ways not to figure out that his roommate was a girl, but that is part of the cuteness of the movie, much like the part of Viola in Twelfth Night. You have to suspend reality a bit to go along with the premise but it's worth it. Also, the soccer coach at good old Illyria. He was a hoot. Good movie. Watch it. Have fun.

5 out of 5 stars She IS the Man.......2007-05-28

This was an excruciatingly hilarious take on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. I had expected it to be entertaining but had in no way expected it to be constantly laugh-out-loud hilarious. Obviously no one is going to win an Oscar for superior acting or impeccable script writing but nonetheless Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum managed to pull off a very fun and adorable film. Admittedly the chemistry between the two main stars was lacking a bit but her hilarity and his hotness more than made up for it. My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed the film and so it comes highly recommended.

After dominating the teen-movie genre for the bulk of the 1980s, writer-producer (and sometimes director) John Hughes proved that he had at least one good movie left in him before squandering his talent on lame comedies throughout the 1990s. Like The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink, Some Kind of Wonderful treated its teenaged characters like real people with real feelings, hopes, fears, and desire. Mary Stuart Masterson gives a great performance as a tomboy drummer named Watts who's secretly in love with her best friend, Keith (Eric Stoltz), an aspiring artist who is oblivious to her affection because he's got a crush on Amanda (Lea Thompson), the popular high school beauty. Watts will even go so far as to chauffeur a date for Keith and Amanda, if only to prove--after a lot of patient, emotional anguish--that she's better for Keith than Amanda could ever be. The movie's drama comes from Keith's gradual realization that there's more to love than surface attraction, and Hughes gets extra mileage out of the romantic confusion by allowing Thompson's character to be more than a shallow campus cutie. All three of the leads are good fits in their roles, and this was one of the few teen films of the '80s to add genuine depth to its mainstream appeal. It's one of the few John Hughes movies to stand the test of time. --Jeff Shannon

    Description

A young tomboy, Watts (Mary Stuart Masterson), finds her feelings for her best friend, Keith (Eric Stoltz), run deeper than just friendship when he gets a date with the most popular girl in school, Amanda, (Lea Thompson). Unfortunately, the girl's old boyfriend, Hardy (Craig Scheffer), who is from the rich section of town, is unable to let go of her, and plans to get back at Keith.

    5 out of 5 stars 80's Culture!.......2007-07-23

this movie has to be one of my most favourite movies from the 80's. Eric Stolz plays a quiet guy who likes the popular girl in school, who has a boyfriend is such a player. Then he has his best friend Watts, who is so in love with him and this sets up a triangle of sorts. The best scene is when Keith (Eric Stolz), turns up at the party that Arty is having, and stands up to him in front of all his friends. Just goes to show that the tough guy can be intimidated and look like a loser. Great soundtrack too, and it's so 80's that i love watching it over and over.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent piece of work by John Hughes.......2007-06-28

This is a movie that didn't get the attention of others movies in the 80's (Weird Science, Pretty in Pink, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club) but it sits right up there with them, this film has one of the best soundtracks of the 80's but is missing to songs Beats so Lonely from Charlie Sexton and Catch my Fall of Billy Idol.

In some parts is like Pretty in Pink but with a more real feel to it, all the young actors are in the top of there game (Eric Stolz, Lea Thompson, Mary Stuart Masterson and the always good Craig Sheffer) here but Candace Cameron and Elias Koteas steal this film with there portrait of Keith Sister and the School Badie, vintage John Hughes for the people that where in High School that time this is a must have DVD in your collection of great eighties films about High School crowd.

4 out of 5 stars Review of Some Kind of Wonderful.......2007-06-27

This is a well-acted film about young love and all its ups and downs. The three main characters are excellent in their roles, and there's a good supporting cast. If you want a happy ending, you'll get it with this movie!

5 out of 5 stars Some Kind of Good Movie.......2007-06-27

I have been a big fan of the 80's movies and this one is one of my favorites! The story flows well with the characters, and the cast works very well together and they seem very believable. My favorite character was the typical bad boy who became friends with Eric Stolz and the party scene towards the end was the real highlight of the movie for me. It was somewhat predictable but has a great ending. I can watch this movie over and over again and not get sick of it. Enjoy!!

Wonderful movie. One of John Hughes best efforts.

    Product Description

One of Barbra Streisand's most beloved performances is that of the indomitable Dolly Levi in this hugely popular musical that received a Best Picture Academy Award nomination in 1969.

It's turn-of-the-century Yonkers, New York, where an ambitious young widow with a penchant for matchmaking (Streisand), has an idea for the perfect match-tight-fisted, local merchant Horace Vandergelder (Walter Matthau) and-herself! As she tries to win his heart, we're treated to one of the most musically entertaining, hilariously underhanded plots in film history. Directed by Gene Kelly, this Oscar winner for Best Sound, Music, Score and Art Direction/Set Decoration is among the world's most cherished films.

They just don't make musicals like this any more. There are some who would be grateful for that--the plot is but a flimsy excuse to string together song and dance numbers. Some of us, however, love big, splashy, overdone musical scenes, of which there are many. Glittering stage numbers showcase a commanding Barbra Streisand as Dolly Levy, a New York matchmaker who can find a mate for anyone. Anyone but herself, that is. Determined to marry wealthy Walter Matthau, she lures him out of Yonkers and sets about wooing him.

Don't worry about the lack of a solid story or Gene Kelly's pedestrian direction. Watch instead for the musical numbers and the lavish costumes. Listen to Jerry Herman's score, and dance around the living room when a sequined Streisand arrives in a club as Louis Armstrong strikes up the title tune for her benefit. (Just pull the shades first.) Based on Thornton Wilder's play The Matchmaker, Hello, Dolly! won Academy Awards for best sound, art direction, and musical score. --Rochelle O'Gorman

    5 out of 5 stars A great musical.......2007-05-21

Although Streisand was a little too young to play the lead she made a note worthy lead. But it was the songs and choreogragphy that made this an excellent movie.

    5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Movie.......2007-05-08

I had watched this movie many times on TCM in letterbox. I even recorded it. Amazon offered it at half price so I jump on it. The bonus features are well worth it. This Movie is real. Not a bunch of CGI crap. Appreciate it for what it is. A marvel and masterpiece.

There has been much talk over the years about Streisand being too young for the role. Who cares? This is a Hollywood classic proving some movies will remain popular forever. Fantastixc production numbers, costuming and art direction. Put on your Sunday clothes and check out Dolly. It is a great film. Barbra at her musical best.
