One the strangest musical curiosities of the 1980s, Roadie stars Meat Loaf as a good ol' Texas boy who turns himself into the world's greatest roadie to win the heart of a teen-age groupie (Kaki Hunter). She, however, is obsessed with Alice Cooper, just one of the musical guest stars in this rock & roll road movie farce. Meat Loaf single-handedly saves concerts by Hank Williams Jr. and Roy Orbison (who duet on "The Eyes of Texas") and Blondie (who crank up "Ring of Fire") as well. Directed by Alan Rudolph, from a slapdash story he co-wrote with producer Zalman King (which surely qualifies as one of the most unlikely creative partnerships in film history), this high-energy cinematic jam is a raucous, disjointed goof. But only the comedy is played out of key. The music rocks. --Sean Axmaker
Description

Can true love survive rock 'n roll?
Customer Reviews:
A really fun movie .......2007-08-09
For it's time, Roadie is a great movie in itself. it's funny, sexy, and filled with alot of classic rock. Great cammeo's by Hank Williams Jr. and Roy Orbison to name a couple. Jr. sings Outlaw Women at a bar Redfish (Meat Loaf) set's up at.
The story is Hank Williams Jr.'s road crew breaks down on the side of a Texas road. A pretty woman hitching a ride steps out and catch's Redfish's eye. Two numb skulls diving the truck has no clue what's wrong. When Redfish offers to help, Lola (the pretty woman) talks him in to helping set up Hank Willims Jr. Soon after that Redfish becomes the best at what he does or what he has became a (roadie) but all Redfish is after is Lola and all Lola is ater is Alice Cooper.
I sew this movie on T.V. a long time ago and liked it alot and I was wantting to see it again. Still a great movie
I Love This Silly Movie.......2007-07-06
From the ambulatory phone booth to a candlelight dinner with The Snake, this just tickled my funny bone. Art Carney was great, and I loved Meat Loaf as the star-crossed lover. Yes, it's cheap, yes, it's campy, but I have been looking for the damn thing for like 20 years, and I am SO happy they finally re-released it. For years all I had was the soundtrack, which is quite good- look at all the musicians in the darn movie! Ooohhh, I'm drivin' my life away....
Boooring out of hell.......2007-01-04
Truly atrocious! Avoid it. It has no plot and it's cheap. Meatloaf, known for being a charming, funny and charismatic artist, is just like a lazy, unispired big sack o'coal in this one. And it's booooooring!
Kaki Hunter is the best ever!.......2006-06-07
It has been a while since I have seen this movie. I will never forget when it came out I ended up seeing it like, five times in one year.
The movie is great, but what makes it is Kaki. Too bad she retired from acting, but I am sure after all those Porky movies she was exhausted.
My fave line in the whole movie is by Lola:
"I'll eat chili till I DIE.!!!!!!!"
Thanks.
Worst movie I've seen in almost 10 years.......2006-05-25
I know what you're thinking. Alice Cooper, Art Carney, Meatloaf, Blondie... this would have to at least have some camp value. I thought so too.
I was wrong.
This movie is atrocious. I'd give it 1 1/2 stars if I could simply for a halfway decent soundtrack but that's all there is to recommend it. Meatloaf can't act, neither can Don Cornelius, neither can anyone apparently as even Art Carney mails this one in.
The plot is ridiculous and the attempts at humor are worse.
Avoid at all costs, even if you're a huge fan of any of the principals.

Customer Reviews:
life is beautiful.......2007-01-23
Tired up his eyes by abusive, psycho-neurotic, dominative, sadist girlfriend and stupid patrons at a bakery he works, Selwyn is desperate to change a life. And working for No Use for a Name music band is a handy option to execute.
However, it was not the best decision because he soon started being used to ridiculing, humiliating and simple bulling by rock musicians to convince each other in their "show-industry stars-on-rise" social and intellectual superiority over a "cake boy".
A lucky chap, left barefoot in the middle of the night somewhere on the middle of the road to the nearest inhabited place, he both made a couple of miles to an eatery, and was served, on spot employed, provided with poor but reliable accommodation.
After a few more events, some of them satirically-mimicking supposedly- French attitudes and Hollywood-style life-death brink-actions, all problems were finalized happily.
In the best traditions of American musical comedies, his boss invalid niece had him seduced and given hot time to extent of becoming an object of his desire, passion and love. She had even saved his life by hitting with wheelchair an ex-girlfriend of him to drop a pistol.
Preferring more explicit viewing of the love-making by people born with disabilities might find Adreas Serrano photographs of definite relevant addition to this movie.
So far, a set concludes both DVD and CD of fifteen musical tracks -and this is a very clever idea.
I highly recommend this KUNG-FU FILMS production by Joe Escalante.
Cool movie lousy budget..........2006-07-09
This is a very independent but poorly made movie... It lacks cast, crew and editing process. But its a nice attempt for a DIY punk rock film. If you like No Use For A Name and C}california punk rock bands, go for it!...
