This is such a great old movie, one of David Niven's best in his earlier days of acting. He plays a great romantic role!

A VERY GOOD PLOT.......2007-04-21

I love David Niven. He is one of the best comedy actors! I probably would not have bought this one if I had known it has music and dancing, but, I'm glad I did! The screenplay is very clever, and David handles it masterfully! Romero is also good. Interestingly, Diane Hart sounds like Audrey Hepburn. I wonder if Hepburn copied her, or, is that maybe a certain British style. But Hart does a good job as the female star's side kick. If you're a fan of classic comedy, you will like this one, and fast forward thru the boring musical numbers, unless, or course you like that sort of thing.

I purchased this movie and I had never seen it before,and I didn't know what to expect.The movie is about a Chorus girl "Jannet Jones"(Vera Ellen)and she is working for a hot head director "Frosty"(Ceasar Romaro).One day she is running late for rehearsal and the driver for millionaire "B.G Bruno"(David Niven)gives her a ride to the theater, she unknowingly leaves her purse in the car and when the driver brings the bag back to her everyone thinks she is B.G Bruno's girlfriend.So frosty Decides to make Jannet the star of he play in hopes of getting B.G to finance it.People start giving her things and charging them to B.G Bruno.So he decides to go down to the theater to clear the matter up.Now Jannet and B.G have never met each other,and when they do meet Jannet mistakes him for "Paul Tracy" a man who is supposed to interview her for the newspaper, she and B.G are attrated to each other and He dicides to pretend like he is Paul on order to keep seeing Jannet.I don't want to give away everything.But it is a great movie I highly suggest it to everyone.This movie is a must have for any dvd collection.But I must warn you the film quality isn't great.

"Roan Group" version seems to be the best print.......2006-07-10

This film is in the public domain and it has resulted in many different DVD issues, all seemingly taken from different originals and resulting in some poor quality DVDs. There's little in the reviews or packaging to assure us of just which ones are the best. However, the DVD by "Roan Group Archival Entertainment" appears to be among the best. I'm certainly very well-satisfied with the print and sound quality of mine and, without having seen all of them, I can only assume that it's at least one of the better versions, if not THE best. I'd have no hesitation recommending it.

He falls in love with one of the women, who reciprocates; he grows more lively and friendly, to the surprise of his employees. After a series of mishaps and comic incidents comes a happy ending: a successful show and true love. #2 3 Broadway Girls (1932, also known as "The Greeks Had A Name For Them" 80 min) Hard-boiled Pre-Code Comedy, about gold-digging dames. Polaire is the sensitive one, Schatzi the nice one, and Jean is a complete bitch who screws her friends and their sugardaddies at every turn. Lots of teasing shots of girls in their slips, including a strip-search. Cut-throat jazz age immorality, lots of fun.

Both these movies are great! The colors are vibrant, good detail, and decent sound. Much better than many bargain priced dvds I've seen. Recommended!

First "Three Girls" Talkie Does Not Live Up to Legend .......2005-10-07

THREE BROADWAY GIRLS is the 1932 film THE GREEKS HAD A WORD FOR THEM (not The Girls Had a NAME for Them) starring Joan Blondell, Ina Claire, and Madge Evans that was later remade as HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE starring Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, and Lauren Bacall. A very famous and rather elusive film among movie buffs and truth be told, it does not live up to it's legend. The script is not nearly as good as it should have been and the girls endless fighting takes precedence over their man-hunting. Suprisingly few good comic lines and Ina Claire's character is curiously villianous at times. Joan Blondell, however, is very sexy though regrettably third in screen time here, regal Madge Evans seems an odd choice for one of these party girls albeit the most noble one in the bunch. Stage legend Ina Claire was 40 when she made this movie and lacks the beauty of her co-stars but she is amusing when her character is not vicious. Print quality on this bargain-basement release is only fair. Worth the buck I paid for it at Dollar Tree but not much more.

David Niven is B.G. Bruno, a wealthy Scottish millionaire caught up in a case of mistaken identity in this British musical comedy. During a film festival in Edinburgh, Bruno's limousine delivers an unknown dancer, Janet Jones (Vera-Ellen) to the event, due to her hitching a ride from the driver. The public begins to spread rumors about the girl and the situation is further complicated by Bruno falling for her. Jones mistakes Bruno for a newspaper reporter leading to a hilarious climax and true love winning out in the end. Look for Caesar Romero in an over-the-top performance as producer John Frost.
