A "let's get laid" favorite from the teen-comedy trend of the early 1980s, The Last American Virgin is beloved enough to earn its own fan-driven website, and it's still lots of fun. While tapping into the same zeitgeist that popularized Fast Times at Ridgemont High (which was released just one week earlier), this above-average sex comedy mixes high-school high jinks with the real anguish of unrequited love, as a nice kid named Gary (Lawrence Monoson) falls for Karen (Diane Franklin), a cute classmate who won't return his affections. Gary delivers pizza, leading to the comic highlight when his horny pals (Steve Antin, Joe Rubbo) deliver more than pizza to a lonely Latina bombshell (Louisa Moritz). But Gary wants his "first time" to be special, and director Boaz Davidson smartly avoids the obvious by denying Gary of the thing he wants most. Intended as the first in a series of remakes of the Israeli "Lemon Popsicle" comedies of the 1970s, The Last American Virgin offers abundant nudity, a recycled soundtrack of '80s hits, and plenty of hair mousse, but it's genuine hormonal angst that's given it a lasting reputation. --Jeff Shannon
Description
Virginity is up against some stiff competition in this uproariously "entertaining" (Boxoffice) comedy about three sex-starved high school buddies with only one thing left to lose. Written and directed by Boaz Davidson with a "bittersweet style" (The Hollywood Reporter) and pulsing with music by U2, The Cars, Devo and more, The Last American Virgin is a devastatingly funny "teen romp [that's] a notch above" (Boxoffice)! This semester, Gary, Rick and David aredetermined to get laideven if it means going toe to toe with a hilarious array of high-strung hookers, naughty nymphomaniacs and naive high school girls. But when Gary falls for the girl of his dreamsonly to learn that she's about to become Rick's latest conquesthe soon discovers that having sex doesn't just mean losing his virginity, it may mean losing his innocence forever.

Reality in a Hollywood movie?.......2007-04-11
The ending made this movie. Its not often that you can say a Hollywood movie reflects real life so spot on. This movie sums up the poor decision makeing (men and women) that is rampent when love is involved. It's no wonder 50% of all marriges end in devorce. Smoke and mirrors and refuseing to see the facts
I love this movie.......2007-04-01
I have loved it ever since I saw it in 1991( I was 10 at the time). It came on Tv. and I was hooked ever since. It was so so hard to find this movie. I always wanted to rent the movie, but the video stores never had it. I found it on amazon, so I had to buy it. I am now the proud owner of this hard to find movie
This is your teen movie you have to see. The ending made me cry, well almost. Karen totally did Gary dirty, after all that he did for her, when she got pregnant by his friend, who didn't want to claim the baby.
Gary was to nice, but he was in love with the girl. But I don't know if I would talk to my friend who did something like that to me. especially since he knew gary liked Karen.
Deconstruction of the fictitious "American dream".......2007-03-01
After failing miserably in "The Karate Kid," unable to convince moviegoers that he could ever be a winner, here Ralph Macchio plays a more believable sap. And his girlfriend, far from cheering him on while he incapacitates his adversaries with "The Swan," turns out to be no more than an abortion-happy tramp in a pretty package. So true, so true. She basically dumps him for the sensei's testosterone-chewin' pet protege and from then on, Ralph is nauseated by the thought of having sex ... with girls anyway.
The 80's American pie!!.......2006-12-05
Hello! I love this movie! it is a provocative! but it is sad!! I cry every time!!! :( its so sad! You have to watch it!!! and see for your self!!
Prissy!
CLassic 80's Horn Y Edition.......2006-08-12
This movie is so funny, classic porky's type movie but with a sweet message. Dont help girls who love bad boys they will break your heart, completely unexpected ending for a raunchy pre-American Pie comedy.. still worth the crabs, I mean the laughs.

SPRUNG .......2006-11-10
This was hilarious!
If you are a fan of movies about the "brotha's and sista's", this one is for you.
All the actors did a good job.
Fabulously funny.......2006-11-10
I enjoy Rusty Cundieff's works (Tales From the Hood & Fear of A Black Hat) in general, but this movie is not only funny, but romantic & real. It was one of those movies my wife & i had in common before we even knew each other (this has happened a few times), and we still enjoy reciting the dialogue together every time we watch it.
OFF THE HOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-06-06
There's nothing out there like "SPRUNG".It's got romance and comedy all roll into one package. It's definitely a movie to watch any day of the week. The first time I saw this movie,it was on CABLE.I had no idea it was going 2 be this good.Just plain hilarious.I love that Brandy and Montell stayed 2gether despite the fact that their so called friends wanted 2 ruin their relationship when they(Adina and Clyde)found out that the whole thing was 4 real. And I also love the way Montell talks about how love feels like.Hit me pretty hard.I think that both men and women would appreciate such an art of a movie.
a cute love story, with comedy thrown in!.......2004-03-14
Sprung is the story of 4 friends Clyde (Joe Torry), Adina (Paula Jai Parker), Brandy (Tisha Campbell) and Montel (Rusty Cundieff) . Clyde and Adina who are both playas hook up immediately and Adina finds out that Clyde isn't the rich man she thought he was and hilarity ensues (check the scene with Clyde riding on top of Adina's car in only his jockey underwear). Meanwhile against Clyde and Adina's wishes, Brandy and Montel fall in love and are truly happy. Clyde and Adina conspire to break up their friends's happy relationship, accusing the twosome of being "Sprung". Overall this is a very sweet romance and it also very funny. I've worn out my video and recently purchased this on DVD and I"m quite happy I did and I think you should get it too!
I Love this movie.......2004-02-26
This is a cute romantic comedy, that will leave you laughing, and laughing some more. You have Adina, Clyde, Montell and Brandy. Adina and Brandy are friends who meet Clyde and Montell (who are also friends) at a party. Adina is the typical "you have to have serious money to date me" type of attitude. The more money a guy has, the better your chance of dating her. Clyde thinks he is a player, but he is actually a faker. He has keys to a Porsche that does not belong to him, and he goes to banks to get bank slips that don't belong to him with high bank balances to show he has money. Adina gets a peek at one of his bank slips gets woozy, and Clyde offers to take her home. When Adina finds out later that Clyde is not "clocking major figures" she take his car, and he chases her down in a hilarious scene. After all of that turns out Brandy and Montell date, and Clyde and Adina can't have that!!! They set out to ruin the relationship, and chaos ensues. The movie is very funny, and it's a wonderful romantic comedy. There is this one scene that is so hilarious, I still find myself laughing so hard I have tears running down my face.
Adina wears plenty of wigs. She could Regine a run for her money!!! I also enjoy the talk Montel gives when he talks about loving, and loving hard. This is a must see movie in my opinion.

A Fun and Entertaining Film ... For Kids, At Least.......2006-02-25
I've often found that young children go into animated movies with the same mindset: they'll love it even before the lights in the theater go dim. And what's not to love? Everything is bright, wacky, and fun, no one gets killed, and a happy ending is virtually guaranteed. Of course, adults have a different set of standards for the films they'd prefer to see. Sure, a family film is okay; at least then there's something for everyone. But if they're forced to sit through a cartoon made entirely for young children, then there's a lot to be desired. "Doogal" (or "Sprung! The Magic Roundabout") is definitely a children's film, and for them, I would recommend it. But for adults, even those who have young children ... well, it may be something you'll want to pass on until it's available for rent.
A completely computer generated adventure, "Doogal" has everything a child would love: lots of vivid colors, talking animals, talking toys, juvenile comedy, and harmless dialogue. Of course, the visuals will probably distract them from the basic good vs. evil storyline. Then again, they may not; it's a genre that's been utilized in countless numbers of cartoons, most of which they've seen on more than a couple of occasions (and for that we can thank the folks at Disney). It's a genre that also has the ability to close cultural gaps. The film itself is proof of that; it was originally produced in France, only to later be re-dubbed by English speaking actors. The script was also completely rewritten by American born Butch Hartman, the creator of Nickeloden's "Fairly Odd Parents."
Nothing was complex or detailed as far as the plot is concerned, and the characters were appropriately made one-dimensional (a plus, considering the average child's attention span). In what was obviously crafted to be an under aged salute to the "Lord of the Rings" Trilogy, "Doogal" is the story of a puppy and his quest to save the world. When the evil sorcerer Zeebad (Jon Stewart) is accidentally released from his merry-go-round prison, he takes his revenge by covering the whole world in snow and ice. Things only go downhill when he steals three magic diamonds, the ones that have the ability to freeze the sun permanently. If there's to be any hope of thawing the frozen landscape, then the diamonds have to be restored. (It should be noted here that Zeebad is a metal spring. That's right: a metal spring.)
Here enters the good sorcerer Zebedee (Ian McKellen, whose character is also a metal spring). He puts together a ragtag fellowship specifically for this dangerous quest. It's led by Doogal (Daniel Tay), a self-serving, candy obsessed young mutt whose best friend, Florence (Kyle Minogue), has been imprisoned by a wall of ice. If he's to succeed in saving her--as well as in saving the world--he must learn to think of others and not just himself. Helping him are his friends, including: Dylan (Jimmy Fallon), a guitar playing rabbit who is always sleepy; Ermintrude (Whoopie Goldberg), a cow who dreams of musical stardom (despite the fact that she can't sing to save her life); and Brian (William H. Macy), a levelheaded snail who happens to be in love with Ermintrude. (Don't bother asking why; remember, this is a kid's film.) Completing the list of characters in the unseen narrator, voiced by the Academy Award nominated Judi Dench.
Yes, "Doogal" is the kind of film kids would love. Unfortunately, I'm an adult, and I couldn't help but analyze it from an adult's perspective. There was just so much that didn't work for me, not the least of which was animation that couldn't hold a candle to the likes of Dreamworks or Pixar. Every shot looked like an amateurish, half-hearted attempt, qualities that would only be dismissible were it a weekly cartoon on Playhouse Disney or Kids' WB. I'm not saying the characters had to look realistic: if anything, that would hurt the movie more. I just felt that the graphics people could have put a little more effort into things like texture, lighting, and movement. I also would have liked it if the characters' mouth movements were redone. I've already told you that this was originally a French film. Because of that, the voices were out of sync with the mouths. At first I could let it go, but after a while I found it to be distracting and detrimental to the movie.
Another problem was a noticeable clash of comedic styles. Visually speaking, the audience is immersed in a toddler's dream world: completely sterile, fantastic, and loaded with a mishmash of seemingly unconnected creatures. (Who'd have thought you'd see a film where humans, animals, and toys coexisted?) This in and of itself works. However, it loses cohesion when you factor in Hartman's Americanized dialogue. Almost every joke in this film is a pop culture reference, something that seemed too removed from the genre and too mature for young audiences. Would four-year-olds understand any of the references to "Lord of the Rings"? For that matter, would they understand the references to "Star Trek," "King Kong," or "Indiana Jones"? I hope they can, because they all find their way into the movie.
Even some of the voice styles worked against the movie. Case in point: Dylan the rabbit, whose guitar playing called for him to sound like a wasted rock star. Fallon's tired and consistently disinterested performance might have worked had "Doogal" been aiming for a preteen audience. I don't know; I just think that if the filmmakers insisted on including jokes adults would get, they should have veered away from the cruder gags only children would appreciate. The best example is a moose (Kevin Smith) that continuously passes gas.
I guess this review is basically a warning to parents: your child in all likelihood will love "Doogal," but you in all likelihood will not. It's just not meant for anyone over the age of eight. I suppose that's not a bad thing; kids enjoy seeing movies that live up to their standards of entertainment. I still think it would have been better if the humor had meshed with the film's overall look. But what do I know? As I said earlier, I'm an adult.
