I loved Barry Williams book and this movie was just as great. All of the actors involved really nailed each personality. For anyone who is a die hard Brady fan this is a gift.

4 out of 5 stars We keep on moving and the Bradys are still with us........2005-04-17

The beloved Brady Bunch have been with us for 35 years. It began with The Brady Bunch tv series (1969-73), then they returned as a variety show, a cartoon, and then a new tv-movie, The Brady Girls Get Married (1981). This followed with a new tv series, The Brady Brides (1981). In 1988, another reunion tv-movie was made, "A Very Brady Christmas". It was a success. They returned in a new tv-movie, The Bradys (1990) which was more dramatic. This spawned another new tv series, "The Bradys" (1990). This series was with the Brady kids as grown adults with children of their own dealt with more important issues including "Marcia" becoming an alcoholic.
Robert Reed was ill with intestinal cancer and had AIDS. He passed away May 12, 1992. To pay homage to Robert Reed, the cast returned in 1995 for "Brady Bunch Home Movies".
That same year, someone had the gumption to make "The Brady Bunch Movie" (1995) with a whole new cast. It was created to spoof the antics of the original Brady Bunch tv series (1969-1973). Although, some original cast members made cameo appearances, the die hard fans didn't quite take to it. It didn't stop there. With another fake cast, they then made "A Very Brady Sequel (1996) and "The Brady Bunch in the White House. These two movies were terrible. But if any good came out of this, it brought back interest of the original "Brady Bunch" cast.
In February 1993, Barry Williams wrote with Chris Kreski, "Growing Up Brady--I Was A Teenage Brady". This book told us of his memories, juicy tidbits, behind-the-scenes battles and many you-never-knew secrets the way only Barry Williams can tell it about the casts time as "The Brady Bunch". Before his death, Robert Reed wrote a Foreword for the book.
In 2000, the bestselling book became a tv-movie, "Growing Up Brady. Barry Williams, Mike Lookinland and Sherwood Schwartz makes appearances. Mike Lookinland's son, Scott, plays "Bobby".
The original "Brady Bunch" castt still pop-up on television once in a while with a new reunion special. They were last seen together in a reunion special on the TV Land Network in 2004
and on the Travel Channel, "The Brady Bunch Cast Back in Hawaii (2005).
It is always nice to see "The Brady Bunch" again whenever they return including Florence Henderson and Ann B. Davis too.

5 out of 5 stars I loved this made for tv movie!.......2004-07-18

When I first saw it advertised on television that they would be making a tv movie based on Barry William's book "Growing Up Brady" I was very excited. I have always loved the rumors that surrounded the behind the scenes life of the Brady Bunch, and was hoping that they would do a good job putting it on screen. I was not disappointed, and I loved this movie. For a long time I was searching for it on dvd or video, and finally it was released. It's great and if you like the Brady Bunch, I guarantee you will like this movie. It's fun, entertaining, and TRUE!

5 out of 5 stars A Must-See for Brady fans!.......2004-07-11

What a GREAT movie this is. I read the book (which was good), but didn't come across the movie (which was great), until recently. It moves along, covers all the important moments, and is extremely well-acted-- particularly by Barry Williams in the opening/closing segments. He's terrific. Why isn't he a popular character actor in features?? There's also a clever cameo by Maureen McCormick here-- although I hope they find her hair stylist, who probably skipped town after botching her 'do. Yecch. I grew up with this show, and am very happy that Growing Up Brady delivers the goods for all us Brady fans. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2004-07-08

After seeing the disasterous "Brady's In The White House" I gave this a try because I also missed it on TV and it was released on DVD at the same time. I was blown away. This movie was even better than the E! True Hollywood Story done on the series. The casting was excellent. All the kids looked like the original actors, and that was definitely lacking "Brady's In the White House". It started right away with the auditioning of the actors at the beginning of the Brady Bunch and follows the show and players from there.

It's the ultimate behind the scenes look at the show, and the battles between Robert Reed and Sherwood Schwartz. Very interesting, and very entertaining.

3 out of 5 stars Brady Insanity!! .......2004-11-03

These movies are actually not that bad at all and worth it for most Brady maniacs. Here's a brief rundown:

1) The Brady Bunch in the White House - I've never really liked these Brady movies. I've felt since the beginning that they were mean-spirited & completely nonsensical (why on earth are the Brady's stuck in the 70s while the rest of the world is not? I understand how bizarre of a juxtaposition it provides for the spoof, but it's very one-note). That said, Gary Cole's take on Mike There's-always-a-lesson-to-be-learned Brady is especially hysterical. As the third installment of these films, "...White House" completely throws all credibility to the wind and presents us with a truly bizare, almost surreal, vision of the Bunch with them, literallly, taking over the country. The result is nothing great, but certainly funny enough in its own audacious way.

b) Growing Up Brady - This Barry Williams (Aka, Greg) backed TV pic aired on the original Brady mother station, ABC, in or about the same time as an awful, sensationalistic, FOX movie called - get this! - "The Final Days of the Brady Bunch," which was nothing less than utterly depressing. Here, ABC not only based the flick on material from Williams' book of the same title, but kept with the light spirit of the original show, only hinting at the behind-the-scenes bickering between Robert Reed & Sherwood Shwartz (executive producer of the show). Williams' claims that Reed & co. went to great lengths to make sure the kids weren't exposed to such ugliness, and Reed's homosexuality was not flaunted on the set. Here, the subject is treated with respect & taste, culminating in a scene where a young Williams confides in TV mom Florence Henderson, who dealt directly with Reed's unfortunate awkwardness on the set. The film could've gone a bit further, as Williams' book did, in relaying how much Reed truly cared about his Bunch, taking them on trip to Europe and lavishing them with expensive gifts.

ABC also scored with a winning cast, who for the most part look and behave an awful lot like their real-life counterparts. More than that, they seem very well schooled in their respective mannerisms. In fact, Bobby Brady is played by the son of Mike Lookinland, the originator of the role. He looks & sounds exactly like him!! They even duplicated the black hair dye job that producers forced upon the blonde Lookinlad in the early days of the show. Speaking of duplication, the old Brady set is reproduced to a tee...right down to the familiar horse sculpture beneath the stairs.

1 out of 5 stars Save Your Money.......2004-08-01

I loved the first two Brady Movies and when I saw this one, I rushed home to watch it. Not only does this film NOT have the original kids, it's a real bomb. Sad to say, it's not even worth renting and I was so disappointed. I also hate wasting money.
