British horror/comedy Shaun of the Dead is a scream in all senses of the word. Brain-hungry zombies shamble through the streets of London, but all unambitious electronics salesman Shaun (Simon Pegg) cares about is his girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield), who just dumped him. With the help of his slacker roommate Ed (Nick Frost), Shaun fights his way across town to rescue Liz, but the petty concerns of life keep getting in the way: When they're trying to use vinyl records to decapitate a pair of zombies, Shaun and Ed bicker about which bands deserve preservation--New Order they keep, but Sade becomes a lethal frisbee. Many zombie movies are comedies by accident, but Shaun of the Dead is deliberately and brilliantly funny, while still delivering a few delicious jolts of fear. Also featuring the stealthy comic presence of Bill Nighy (Love Actually) and some familar faces from The Office. --Bret Fetzer

What an incredible let down........2007-09-16
Wow! I was excited to see this movie based on the trailers I had seen, what an incredible let down. Not so much a comedy, I kept waiting to laugh and never did. Live and learn. It's just a movie but I wouldn't waste my money on this stinker.
After you stop laughing--watch it a second time.......2007-09-11
First go around, I had to clean my glasses because they were fogged with tears from laughing so hard. "Shaun" is truly one of the most bizarrely funny cult films I have ever seen.
Since I had some trouble with my Mac scanning the DVD, I watched for a second time. What jumped out at me was Shaun's manager's pep-talk about 'teams' and what a study of human nature Shaun and his group would make. We saw thinking outside of the box, bravery in the least expected places, selflessness, and how utterly stupid the panicked group Critic could be.
Seriously, if the corporate trainers ever get tired of making their teams climb rock walls and build paper gizmos that nobody will ever use, they ought to have employees watch this film--twice--so they can see human nature in action.
Wouldn't dealing with zombies be a great way to explain difficult tech support calls? How many uses can you find for this scenario?
"Shaun" is a great film on both the funny and the serious levels. And it is one to be watched more than once. I seriously regret not seeing it in the theatre.
Awesome, funny film.......2007-09-01
I have watched this film several times and now and just love the humour. It is a horror film though so not for the faint hearted
Lets all go to the 'Winchester'....:-)
surely not hilarious..........2007-08-23
it could have been much more better. the scénario is very poor and acting is pretty bad.About laughing....search where and when..
as poor as Hot fuzz
rent it at the best.
WASTE OF TIME........2007-08-18
I love British humor but this sucked. I cannot understand why people loved it so much...Let's face it, if these actors had American accents it would be a complete flop...Also, I believe a lot of people are saying they like it to fit in.
Customer Reviews:
Great!.......2007-09-15
I loved Shaun of the Dead when I saw it on DVD. When I got a HD-DVD player, I found out this movie was on HD-DVD and I had to have it! It was better watching it this time around than when I first remember. If you don't own the movie already, you need to get it, if you do own it, watch it again or buy the HD-DVD version if you want to support the format and/or Simon, Nick, and Bill.
Zombie Plagues are Tons of Fun!.......2007-08-26
I loved this movie: a little bit of gore, a little bit of heartbreak...they do their best to survive.
"Shaun of the Dead" brings good humour to this "romantic comedy with zombies" which comes to HD DVD with a fantastic HD picture and excellent DD+ 5.1 audio.
The local zombies are great...I liked the female Winchester regular, she made a nice creepy zombie, as did the [chubby] black one, and Mary grows on you even more through the second viewing...they all did a really great job! They do well to give several zombies more familiarity through character development.
There are plenty of extras on this HD DVD as well including deleted scenes, commentary, a gallery...it even follows up on a couple of happenings not shown in the film.
This is an extremely fun movie, and I highly recommend it.
Absolutely fantastic.......2007-08-21
Loved this movie. Saw Hot Fuzz first, which was also great. This movie is a great comedy. Other reviews go through the plot, so I won't bother. Great movie in the tradition of British comedies with smart, sharp writing and great acting.
Worthy of the price a funny movie.......2007-08-13
One of my favorite movies is Shaun of the Dead. That being said I expected more of the same with this movie. After watching the movie it wasn't the same. The physical comedy I enjoyed so much is not evident early on. The comedy and banter is dry early on. The action is rather lacking for the first hour. Then when the movie heats up it really becomes a lot of fun.
This movie is different and for those expecting an American type action movie you better turn away. Hot Fuzz features a lot and I mean a lot of dry English humor. It's good but don't expect any real laugh til your sides hurt moments. Hot Fuzz is rather enjoyable if you approach it with an open mind. The same main characters for Shaun of the Dead are here and the on screen chemistry is good. This movie is almost unusual to be stranger than Shaun of the Dead.
In the end I really liked this movie. The acting is very good and action scenes are funny and intense. The sound quality on my home theatre was very good and that helped add to the movie. For any fan of Shaun of the Dead this is definately a must watch. The picture and sound quality are excellent for this HD version. The price is great. At only $20 this is a must have for any HD collection.
Not your typical zombie movie (HD DVD review).......2007-08-06
If you are looking for your typical zombie movie ie. 28 days/weeks later, land of the dead, dawn of the dead this is not it. If you do not enjoy british humor go somewhere else. However if you are okay with the above stated then this movie is for you. very funny film, well made.
HD DVD version is excellent very good sound and video.

An absolute delight, L'Auberge Espagnole captures a moment in a life, seemingly about nothing and everything all at once. Xavier (Romain Duris), a young Parisian not sure what his life is about, decides to spend a year in Barcelona studying economics--leaving behind his unhappy girlfriend (Audrey Tautou, Amélie) but joining an international mix of students in a hectic, crowded apartment. Arguing and partying with his British, German, Danish, and Italian roommates--not to mention getting lessons in love from a Belgian lesbian (Cecile De France) so that he can seduce a friend's wife (Judith Godreche, Ridicule)--Xavier learns more about life than economics. The movie, beautifully shot on digital video, has a freshness and spontaneity that make its simple events--a series of arguments and flirtations--feel like a miniature portrait of the European Union as it comes into focus (the title can be translated as "Euro pudding"). Vibrant, charming, and all-around entertaining. --Bret Fetzer
Description
Seven sexy co-eds. One Spanish apartment. No rules. A single year of learning turns into an outrageous adventure of a lifetime in this "fresh, captivating comedy" (Newsday) that has audiences and critics cheering around the world! Xavier (Romain Duris) is a straight-laced French college senior who moves to Barcelona as part of a exchange program, much to the dismay of his beautiful Martine (Audrey Tautou). But sharing cramped quarters with students from all over Europe quickly leads to multi-cultural chaos as Xavier gets a hilarious, eye-opening lesson on how to live, love, laugh?and party!
Customer Reviews:
Great Movie in four languages.......2007-08-13
No really, in the course of the movie, I counted four. It is a great movie. Oh, and unlike the cover of the DVD would lead you to believe, Audrey Tatou plays a mostly minor role in this film.
Love the film.......2007-08-02
This is a great film. It takes me back to my time abroad in Spain. I have watched it half a dozen times and purchased for friends where were abroad there. Captures the escence of many of my experiences.
The Spanish Apartment.......2007-07-20
This fizzy romantic adventure combines screwball laughs with eye-opening student-travel mishaps among the youthful, sexually vibrant cast of characters, who hail from all over Europe. Klapisch handles the madness with delightful cheek, even deploying split screens and other visual devices to heighten the comic tensions. Duris is a winner as our first-person narrator and angst-filled protagonist, credibly parsing the benefits and drawbacks of a future in French bureaucracy. "Amelie" star Tautou and Godresch provide strong support as the women he must choose between. For a spicy trip to festive Spain, book a room at "L'Auberge Espagnole."
Just OK.......2007-06-17
"The Spanish Apartment" follows Xavier, a French student who decides to improve his chance of getting a job in finance by studying a year in Spain. He leaves behind his girlfriend, but soon finds consolation in his fun roommates and somewhere else (I don't want to give too much away). The characters feel real, and that is one of the merits of the movie. The actors are also quite good. But the screenplay is never engaging enough to make us care much about Xavier.
I love this movie........2007-06-08
What to know why Europeans are, by and large, a happy and contented people?
Watch this and find out.
Funny, poignant, sensitive, and interesting. You want to be one of these people before the film is half-way through. Each character is very different and they all (eight of them) are jammed together into one apartment in Barcelona. Yet, somehow, they collectively play to each other's strengths and become life-long friends in the process.

Sandler and Cheadle both shine in this........2007-09-03
I saw this at the theaters and it totally blew me away. First off, while the movie has it's funny moments between Sandler and Cheadle, it is NOT, I repeat, NOT a comedy. Don't expect Happy Gilmore/Billy Madison from Sandler in this as his character is a very troubled widower who deals with his loss in his own eccentric ways. Sandler gives a heartfelt performance as Charlie Fineman, a former Dentist who lost his wife and three children in 9/11. Don Cheadle plays his old college roomate who hasn't seen him in many years. They run into each other a few times and start to rekindle their friendship. Cheadle's character attempts to sympathize with Sandler's character, but opens up a volatile and dangerous side in him. Great movie, go see it and enjoy.
Slow going at times, but powerful - great performances :->.......2007-09-01
I wanted to see this movie for a couple of reasons. First, because I liked the premise of it and second because I'm such a big fan of Adam Sandlers and I wanted to see him step out of his comedy roles and do some drama. He was excellent in this.
He plays Charlie Fineman who lost his wife and two children in a plane on 9/11. He was Alan Johnsons (Don Cheadle) former college roomate and the two had lost touch for many years. One day by chance, the two are brought together again and Alan finds it really hard to accept Charlie as he is now since the loss of his family (he withdrew from the world and became very reclusive). Yet they rekindle their friendship and help each other out at times in their lives where they are both going through hard times.
This is a little long winded in parts, but the acting is great and the story line is ultimately lovely. Adam does a great job here and Don Cheadle is brilliant as always. His wife is played well by Jada Pinket Smith. I enjoyed this a lot and am so glad I finally got around to watching it. It's very moving and anyone with a heart should enjoy this movie. I highly recommend it.

Customer Reviews:
talk about closure...........2007-05-04
I love Will & Grace, but this finale was very disappointing....not as bad as Seinfeld's, almost as good as Friends' and not even close to Cheers'. Jack and Karen's duet got this the extra star. The end of the finale was TOO much with Will and Grace being old and their kids magically going to the same college with the same rooms and meeting up and probably dating. If I wanted that much closure I would watch the reunion show. It could have ended with them talking again after so many years apart, but the producers felt the need to go WAY into the future to try to enhance the nostalgia.
You Have GOT To Be Kidding Me!.......2007-04-07
The finale for this show is really bad. It totally unbalances what took many years for this show to keep balanced. We are really expected to believe that Will and Grace stopped being friends for a few years? Come on! Every episode of this show was about how their bond became stronger. And Jack and Karen ending up together? Oh, please! This finale keeps jumping around to different events in their lifetimes. And Vince and Will together? I can't stand Vince! This finale was a total bomb. I gave it 2 stars because of Karen's amazing singing voice near the end.
Shed A Tear.......2007-03-22
I am an avid Will and Grace fan and when I saw the series finale on DVD I bought it.
I was not 100% in love with the finale - i felt it was extremely rushed into one hour.
I think the best part though is how the series was tied back to the beginning (with them sitting on the same chairs talking on the phone to eachother ~ to the bar scene where they do shots).
The saddest part (saddest in a good way) was the duet of Megan Mullally (Karen) and Sean Hayes (Jack). That song just puts the series finale into perspective.
This DVD is wonderful though I have a feeling the series finale will be included in the final season when that is released on DVD - so this disk might not be a neccessity because it will be included then; however, for those avid fans who enjoy watching W&G daily - its worth the money.
W&G The series will always get 5 stars from me.
A quick buck........2007-01-10
I was disappointed in this dvd.It seems like it has been slapped together for a quick profit.I know it isnt very expensive but I only bought it because I am a collector of the series,I wouldnt buy it just for entertainment.
Excellent!.......2007-01-10
A little lacking on special features but it was just as described and came quickly!

If you haven't bought this video....don't think twice. Very funny movie that everyone enjoys.
A Gay Movie You Have To See..........2007-07-26
I am a bit of a "gay movie buff" and collector. "Eating Out" is one of the funniest gay movies I have seen in a while. It's full of cute guys, has plenty of plot twists and is just an all-around good watch. I laughed through the whole thing. Buy this movie!
Don't !!.......2007-07-25
Please, if you like your money and time, don't waste it. Poor acting. Poor plot. Poor dialogue. What's that scene with the parents,!!! awfully painful. The overacting of the girl friend may mean to be funny, but it fails. Not to mention her attitude as a friend. The only worthy scene would be the threesome thru the phone. The two guys have gorgeous pecs and toys, but please. Rent it if you want. And then, if for some weird reason you like the movie, okay, go for it. Hey, silly movies are okay for entertainment, but this one! I should've believed the really bad reviews.
This movie actually made me mad.......2007-06-24
I went into this movie not expecting anything deep or meaningful, how could you with that soft-core DVD cover? What I was hoping for were some cheap thrills in seeing guys naked and maybe some laughs. The movie is not well written, acted or filmed. As I said, I wasn't expecting much so all that I could forgiven. What I can't forgive is the depiction of the main female character, Gwen. It seems that everyone (the actress, writers, director) was doing their best to make Gwen into the most unlikable, detestable character in the world. They might have been going for a character that was "quirky" and "honest" and "fun." Instead we got a girl that came off as nothing less than rude, tacky, horny and dumb.
Of course the worst part was that every other character was so willing to put up with her crap. I kept wondering, "Why does Caleb want this girl? Dude, you're not the best actor, but you can do better." But EVERYONE in this movie seemed to love her. The biggest offence happened most of the way through the movie, Gwen betrays another character in the most reprehensable way. And when they find out about it at the end of the movie...it's shrugged off two seconds later as an "Oh well" type moment. I got up and screamed at my TV then. These guys all needed to get some balls b/c Gwen obviously had them all in her purse.
In the end, I was just confused about what I supposed to be routing for in this movie. Was I supposed to route for Caleb to give into his possible gay urges and go all the way with Marc? Was I supposed to want this ruse to work and for Gwen and Caleb to get together? Or was I supposed to want Kyle (Jim Veraros in the only decently acted role) to find love somehow? In the end, the only thing I was hoping for was for Gwen to fall into a ditch and die.
This type of dumb movie isn't really worth this much thought. But I don't think I have ever been angered so much by one character in a movie. Of course, everyone else in the movie kept talking about how awesome she was so they're idiots, too. The fact that she's in the sequel just makes me want to steer clear.
Shut up, Gwen.
good movie.......2007-06-12

kinda cliche ending
also cute, and very hot

Description
One of the most controversial movies of its time, this "thought-provoking" (Leonard Maltin) comedy-drama from legendary director Mike Nichols (The Birdcage) is a funny, poignant look at relationships as seen through the eyes of two friends over a 20-year period. Superbly crafted by playwright Jules Feiffer, Carnal Knowledge is brimming with touching insights, sexy banter and powerful performances by three-time OscarÂ(r) winner* Jack Nicholson, Ann-Margaret, Candice Bergen and pop music icon Arthur Garfunkel. Jonathan (Nicholson) and Sandy (Garfunkel) are college roommates who share an endless fascinationand obsessionwith women. As time goes by, their relentless pursuit for the joys of the flesh becomes more competitive...and more damaging. Soon, Jonathan and Sandy's lives become a vicious circle of girls, booze and unfulfillment, and they realize only too late thatin the war of the sexesthey are their own worst enemy. *1997: Actor,As Good As It Gets; 1983: Supporting Actor, Terms of Endearment; 1975: Actor, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

"Sandy, do you wanna get laid?".......2007-04-17
"Carnal Knowledge" (1971) directed by Mike Nichols with Jack Nicholson, Art Garfunkel, Candice Bergen, Ann-Margret in an Oscar nominated performance as a sex kitten who wants to marry Nicholson's Jonathan, and Carol Kane and Rita Moreno in the small roles is one of the movies that made 70s so memorable. It is also the movie that keeps reminding me why I love Jack Nicholson of his early years and how grand he was without his "Jackness" which he has developed during all these years. Sandy (Garfunkel) and Jonathan are two college friends and like every straight young (and not too young) man in the world they are obsessed by girls and move from one relationship to another in the course of almost thirty years. Nichols and Jules Feiffer who wrote the play and later adapted it for the screen let us look inside the minds and souls of two educated upper-middle class white males and to learn their very intimate thoughts and secrets concerning their plentiful dysfunctional and joyless affairs and it is not a pretty picture - "Boys begin life not liking girls, later they don't change, they just get horny." The film is honest, uncomfortable, "very slick, very clever".
Seinfeld - 1971.......2007-01-09
I rented this and was pleasantly shocked. A very mature movie with genuinely great dialogue. The banter and over analysis by each character truly is Seinfeldian and I'm sure YEARS ahead of its time. The use of the camera is also delectible; often you will hear conversations by characters off screen while the camera is focused on someone merely "listening". Often a character will be looking straight at the camera (YOU) while they are speaking to another making you feel like you are more connected to the movie. And of course Jack has a big tirade that brings the house down!
The only unfortunate aspects are Candice Bergen disappearing midway through and an ending that was less than fulfilling. A perfect rental and a good buy; if your a Jack fan it's good, if your a fan of thoughtful conversation it's a MUST! And I hear that "Arthur" Garfunkel fella has a side project... something to do with.. music? And a decent actor to boot.
"You Can't Have Me, I Already Have Me" ~' '70's Narcissism At Its Zenith.......2006-09-07
'Carnal Knowledge' released in '71 tells the story of two friends obsessed with themselves and their personal sexual fantasies and desires.
Jonathan (Jack Nickelson) has no problem getting the ladies into bed, his problem is communicating verbally with them after the great event. Ao the other hand Sandy (Art Garfunkel) is an accomplished communicator but is unable to make the transition from friend to sex partner with his girlfriend Susan (Candice Bergen).
This is narcissism and '70's nihilism at its zenith. The film does deliver strong performances , but the subject matter and the spiraling negativism is a little hard to endure. One of the main draws of this movie is Ann-Margret who looks fantastic, it's worth a viewing just for her.
One of the top 10 of all time.......2006-08-28
This was a ground breaking movie for 1971. THey not only talked about sex, but you saw ann margaret topless. But thats only a minor issue. You become immersed thinking you are there for the 98 minutes. It moves along at a fast pace and the acting, oh the acting. Nicholson is at his classic best. He mesmerizes and garfunkel acts like he has been acting for 30 years. amazing. its not a comedy. why others say it is baffles me. its a rather dark look at two people, one never happy who treats relationships like gutter garbage and one who is more softer and kinder who at times is led astray by the other. What can I say. its riveting movie making. and a true classic. DONT MISS IT.
Brilliantly Funny but Sad Look at 70's Sex.......2006-07-31
The comedy isn't broad enough to make repeat viewings of CARNAL KNOWLEDGE very much fun, the characters are too riddled with the flaws and twisted desires of genuine people to make them great personalities, and the dysfunction of the relationships hardly gets any "rooting interest" going for anyone--but this movie still feels funny and real over thirty-some years later.
The performances are great, the writing extremely sharp. Jack Nicholson's selfish hedonistic heel is hilarious and his pointy eyebrows and mischevious grins perfectly embody his character. From his bellowing tirades to his bitter but funny "slideshow," he's great fun to watch.
Art Garfunkel plays a great sad sack romantic and Candace Bergen brings a genuine depth to the girl torn between them.
If anyone stands out, it has to be Ann Margaret, baring body and soul in her role as Nicholson's sex kitten.
I've always believed that the 1970's was the last great period of movies. CARNAL KNOWLEDGE is one of the reasons why.

Well, it's a good idea. Dead Man on Campus had the potential to be a classic dark comedy: Two students at a prestigious university are flunking out; however, due to a provision in the school's charter, if they had a roommate who committed suicide, they'd both get straight A's as a form of reparation for grief and trauma. So, to stay in school, they seek out the most depressed student on campus and transfer him into their three-person dorm room. Unfortunately, rather than satirizing the real issues--academic narrow-mindedness, parental pressure, the obsessiveness of late adolescence--the movie is a compilation of frat-boy clichés and jokes that want to be in bad taste but are actually quite tame. The leads (Tom Everett Scott and Mark-Paul Gosselaar) are pleasant and the soundtrack (produced by the Dust Brothers) has some very hip selections, but after a snappy opening-credit sequence, the movie stumbles along, aimless and sluggish. Alyson Hannigan (American Pie, Willow on TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has a small role and is her charming geeky self. --Bret Fetzer

"You guys ever been in a high speed chase before? It's intense!".......2006-08-14
"Dead Man On Campus" is a film about two guys who enroll at Daleman College, and become roommates. Josh enrolls via a scholarship, and is studying to become a doctor, and Cooper, well, he's just there to avoid having to clean toilets for a living at his father's business, and of course, to goof off and party. Josh eventually decides to party with Cooper, and as a result, starts to fail every class he's in. He winds up failing his mid-terms, and he finds out that he needs to maintain a B+ average if he wants to keep his scholarship.
One night, while the boys are at a local bar, they find out that if your roomate commits suicide, you get straight As for your grief, so they decide to move a suicidal roommate into their dorm!
In my opinion, the best roommate they find is a no holds barred psychotic named Cliff O'Malley (played by the underrated Lochlyn Munro). Cliff is my favorite character in this film! He's so wacky, and he completely lacks sanity or a conscience! Most of his dialogue and facial expressions in this film is priceless! I'd list a few quotes, but I'm sure Amazon will bleep 'em out!
As for their other roomates:
Buckley: He's a computer nerd who's paranoid, suicidal, and thinks Bill Gates is after his brain!
Matt Noonan: He's the "depressed" goth rock star who acts happy and likes to sing show tunes when no one's around!
In the end: This is one of the most underrated teen stoner flicks ever! For off the wall teen comedies, this is as good as it gets, right up there with "Wayne's World" and "A Night At The Roxbury". This movie originally bombed at the box office when released in August of 1998, and seems to be forgotten nowadays, but trust me, it's funny, and the character Cliff totally makes it worth the admission! It's bound to become a cult classic sooner or later.
3 1/2 stars out of 5.
As for the DVD: It contains a non-anamorphic 1.85:1 widescreen transfer, as well as English Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Surround 2.0 soundtracks, as well as a French Dolby Surround 2.0 soundtrack. The only bonus feature is a theatrical trailer for the film.
Awesome!.......2006-07-28
