This is one of the funniest movies ever, and with a great soundtrack with the dancing gopher! It's too bad that Hollywood doesn't have the courage to make politically incorrect comedies like this and Blazing Saddles anymore. Seems many people are afraid of "the message" this might send to the children. Well, "Caddyshack" didn't make me a boorish and dim witted misogynist, and "Blazing Saddles" didn't make me a racist. Both movies do, however, let me laugh at these people and help me see how stupid the behavior really is. Have a laugh and stop taking yourself so seriously.

Ruined by too much garbage.......2007-05-28

OVERALL, this might have been one of those "silly but cute" comedies, the kind you watch when you just want a good belly laugh.

Unfortunately, Hollywood had to dress it up with the usual junk that's been so prevalent the last few decades. Sex, nudity, palm reading, jokes about drunkenness. I know this doesn't bother most people. But those who care about such things may want to consider this before buying the movie.

Me? I'm throwing my copy away. It isn't even worth selling.

Could have been an excellent movie, but sophomoric idiocy ruins it.
Ted Knight and Rodney give excellent performances with a bunch of zinging one-liners. Some of the scenes with Bill and Chevy are cute as well.
Unfortunately, the movie has an excess of juvenillenitus including toilet and pot humor. Overall, it depicts teens as slackers, scammers, or sluts. The "PG" tv version of the movie thankfully eliminated a lot of the trash. Too bad they didn't make the whole movie PG, as unfortunately this dog is overall more immature than an early Adam Sandler script.

THE QUINTESSENTIAL(TOILET HUMOR)COMEDY FILM........2007-05-13

Ahhh... CaddyShack! Whenever I am down or bored there is no better "pick me up" than a dose of this classic endearing little comedy. The cast is great and seem to be having a ball in this low brow,but extremely funny film. Dangerfield, Murray, Knight and Chase are at their comedic best. The entire cast is way above average in the hilarious "never been duplicated" movie. A must have for your DVD collection.

Husband Loves It........2007-05-12

I bought it for my husband for Christmas because he loves it so much. I enjoyed it a little. It's dumb funny so if you love that type of movie, this is a good one to watch.

Must have for golf fans.......2007-09-09

This cult classic is a must have for golf fans. The transfer to HD-DVD is not bad considering the age of the movie and production quality at the time. The only complaint is the songs on the soundtrack seem to be much louder, and higher quality, than the voices and overall audio quality. Special feature consist of the original movie trailer and a pretty entertaining "making of" from 1999 containing some outtakes, interviews, etc.

I originally gave this film a two star review. I have to say, after my boyfriend getting the HD, and re-watching it, I've changed my mind and deleted my old review. If you didn't like it first time round, I suggest you give it another whirl, because for me, it was better second time round. But strangely enough, first time round, I felt there should be more of Bill Murray, but second time, he did irritate me slightly.

If you're not a Chevy Chase fan, he's not in this much. Which is actually quite surprising, as he is the best known of the cast. I was actually hoping he'd be in it more, because he is funny. I never did think that before, but I must admit, I did NOT get his sense of humour, and it's something I struggle with. Him & Bill both have very dry, deadpan sense of humour, and normally I prefer Bill. There's some sort of animosity between the pair off screen (probably a Paris & Nicole kind of animosity) and the one scene where they appear together, is so awkward, it's practically unwatchable. The two, who should be great friends, hate each other, and it's obvious on screen. But they do talk pure crap when they're on screen together.

The gopher (NOT a mole, as I occasionally think) is definitely the highlight of the movie, and so cute. It's absolutely adorable, and all the scenes underground are surprisingly well shot. It dances when it hears music, it gets high, and it laughs. Where can I buy one of these?

Caddyshack takes pot shots at every level from the class system to sex, religion, and bodily functions. No joke is too far, and no candybar is too gross to eat when it's been at the bottom of the swimming pool. These days, with Adam Sandler, and the American Pies of the world, it's all been done before, and there's something slightly sick about it all. Can you imagine Chevy humping an apple pie just for viewers pleasure? No? Didn't think so.

It can be a bit hard to keep track of what subplot is going on at what time, with the film bouncing between a number of different characters, but I get the feeling I'll never fully follow Caddyshack. It's a film about golf after all. But each character has something different to bring to the film. Ted Knight's character, Judge Smails, has hilarious mannerisms, and a contagious laugh, which made me smile every time. Michael O'Keefe aka Danny Noonan, wants some time away from his madcap family, is quite loveable, but still very much a teenage boy. Rodney Dangerfield plays Al, who is quite possibly the scene-stealer, as you wonder who he is going to insult next.

People rave about this film, and my boyfriend can quote lines from it on cue, but what you have to remember, is it's ultimately a movie about golf. A sport that I will never understand. I see guys I used to know from school, going to play golf, so it's not just the old men it appeals to. I don't understand the appeal, and if it hadn't been about golf, yes it could have been way better. But ultimately, a film about golf won't appeal to me. Not even if Johnny Depp or Keanu Reeves was in it.

A Funny Film at High Resolution, What Else Can You Ask For?.......2007-01-10

Great film, a true classic, a raunchy classic, but definitely a classic.

The HD DVD treatment is surprising in how good the film looks. Colors are strong (even nauseating when it comes to Rodney Dangerfield's outfits!) and detail is excellent. We were not expecting this older catalog title to look as good as it does. It is a pleasure to watch.

Sound is what can be expected of a film from the early 80's, which means that it is not too exciting. The good news is that the dialog is clear and without distortion.

We highly recommend this film for fans!

victim of 80s film stock?.......2006-11-02

I love this movie and grabbed the HD edition as soon as it came out. The differences between the standard edition and the HD are not night and day all the time, but sometimes they are. So this HD-DVD is a mixed bag on the video. Still I would recommend it for the improved resolution. If you love this movie, then buy a HD-DVD player and this HD-DVD.

Great comedy-decent picture quality........2006-10-25

This is one of my all-time favorite movies. I owned the DVD and now the HD DVD. This is not one of the best looking HD DVDs, but I believe that is due to the original film source more than anything. But the picture is much better than the DVD. If you don't already own this get it now! If you already own the DVD and have a very large HDTV, then upgrade to the HD DVD ASAP!

Why would the exploding golf ball blow up when it apparently hits the melon and when it is struck by a putter, but not when it is hit by a titanium driver? Why would a gopher want to have sex with a poodle? You'll be asking yourself questions like these and will curse losing 99 minutes you can never get back if you watch this total waste of a movie. Worst...Movie...Ever.

Seriously, I hadn't seen this movie for quite some time until a month ago. I bought it, thinking that it would be as funny as I remembered it 10 years ago. I was wrong. Everything falls short in this movie, except for Randy Quaid, who's a scene stealer. I'd only recommend this one for those people who collect movies and want to finish off their Caddyshack collection.

NOT "ON PAR" WITH THE ORIGINAL! NOT EVEN CLOSE!.......2007-05-13

I remember the first time I saw this uneven and mostly unfunny sequel to the classic original. I felt violated and wanted redemption for the injustice that was bestrode upon me! I must admit that I have mellowed over the years on this movie and I feel it does have a few moments. Randy Quaid is by far the best thing in this movie and his negotiation scene about the(The Peter Blunt System)zoning laws is hysterical. Jackie Mason is no Dangerfield,but he does have a few moments. This is not essential viewing by any means, but if you have seen the original as many times as I have, you may be able to find some redeeming moments in this luke warm sequel.

You know you're in trouble when...........2006-08-22

...Chevy Chase is the ONLY person from the original CADDYSHACK to come back. If you told him that NOTHING BUT TROUBLE 2 was to begin shooting tomorrow, he'd be setting his alarm and warming up his mugging in the mirror before hitting the sack.

The script for CADDYSHACK 2 was so horrible that Rodney Dangerfield refused to do it. I remember reading at the time that the studio was finally exercizing a clause in Rodney's original contract that stipulated that he appear in the sequel since the first film made a lot of money and, rather than appear in this wretched sequel, he opted to fight it out in court.
(Even the original cast of ROMANCING THE STONE collectively couldn't fight their way out of their stinking follow-up, THE JEWEL OF THE NILE--and even danced in the music video!).

But Rodney prevailed. Take away Rodney, Bill Murray (who sounds like he literally improvised his entire role the first time around), and the late Ted Knight, and all you've got is the gopher. The gopher, a good Kenny Loggins song (wasted), and a lot of mindless schtick that wouldn't have made it through the first writers' meeting for "The Carol Burnett Show."
Robert Stack has too much class and testosterone to be a stuffy snob. Dan Aykroyd humiliates himself and gives Chevy Chase a run for the I'll-Do-Anything-For-A-Buck award. And Jackie Mason...has this guy ever been funny? I laughed at his Ed Sullivan impersonation in 1975 or so...but what's he done?

CADDYSHACK played like a haphazard but hilarious comedy by young upstarts storming Hollywood.
CADDYSHACK 2 plays like grandma and grandpa would like to take a whack at this funny flickers business as well.

And all the negative reviews are just a carbon copy of what the critics all had to say about his movie....My point is, why listen to a bunch of sheep that prolly never even watched this movie? Why listen to people that can't form their own opinions...

I vividly remember watching this movie as young,young kid (prolly too immature for their content) with my older brother and his friends and laughing hysterically....And over the years, I still find this to be one of the great comedies...

Is it as good as the original Caddyshack? No....But it's still a great comedy on its own....Yeah, its a bit raunchy and little cliche'd , but you can't deny some of the outrageously funny scenes...Dan Akroyd's performance as a former Vienam Vet is unforgettable.And so was Randy Quaid as the wacky and eccentric lawyer..Again, Chevy Chase comes through as well...Robert Stack plays the wealthy and very stuffy Chandler and plays to role to a tee....They younger characters are brilliant as well in this film...But the real star of the film is 'Jack Hartoonian' (Jackie Gleason) who's flamboyant, outgoing personality provides the perfect anthesis to the stuffy atmosphere at Bushwood Country Club....

Its been well over 15 years since its release and I still find this movie hilarious....I would normally give it 5 stars, but since it doesn't quite measure up to its origianl, I'll give it a 4....

A no-brainer that has become a low-brow classic, this 1980 comedy makes anarchy the rule of the day, unleashing the antics of Bill Murray, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, and Chevy Chase. Two outstanding films, however the DVD packaging is made of cardboard and cheap plastic instead of the standard plastic DVD case we have grown accustomed to. I would suggest you purchase a couple of DVD cases if you want to protect your investment.
I deducted 2 stars because of poor packaging.
