The Disney Channel Original Movie High School Musical is a combination of backstage action and Grease without the unwholesome habits. Scoring record ratings at the time of its January 2006 broadcast, it's a smash hit with tween audiences (ages 6 to 10), but appealing for all ages. At a New Year's Eve party, Troy (Zac Efron of the WB's Summerland) has a chance meeting with Gabriella (Vanessa Anne Hudgens) when they share a karaoke song. Lo and behold, when school resumes, they discover that Gabriella has just transferred to Troy's East High School, a campus divided into tight cliques of jocks, cheerleaders, brainiacs, and skater dudes. Eager to recapture the magic they'd discovered during karaoke, Troy and Gabriella consider auditioning for the school's upcoming musical, much to the dismay of the school's frost queen/theater goddess, Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody). Problem is, Troy is also the star of the basketball team and Gabrielle is being recruited to compete in the Scholastic Decathlon. Will they give up their cliques to start something new, or will they do as the show's first big anthem urges and "Stick to the Status Quo"? Well, this is a Disney movie, so maybe the sacrifices won't be that hard, and even the hints of romance are mild.

The bestselling soundtrack is catchy in that Disney-pop kind of way, mixing in a dash of hip-hop ("Getcha Head in the Game," punctuated by squeaky basketball shoes and other sound effects), salsa ("Bop to the Top"), and the endearingly hammy ("What I've Been Looking For" performed by Sharpay and her brother, Ryan, played by Lucas Gabreel). It's not hard to imagine High School Musical becoming a semi-staple for high school groups to perform themselves. DVD bonus features include sing-along subtitles; a 9-minute featurette discussing casting, recording sessions, and rehearsals; a multi-angle look at a rehearsal of "Bop to the Top"; and music videos for "We're All in This Together" and a song that didn't make it into the final film, "I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You," performed by Efron, Hudgens, Tisdale, and Gabreel. --David Horiuchi

5 out of 5 stars Great Musical.......2007-09-15

This was a great movie. I had heard Kelly talk about it on Regis and Kelly many times and kept ignoring it. I figured that at my age it was a little young, but i rented it and thought it was great and immediately became addicted! I had seen Zac Efron on Summerland and never saw what was so great about him, but he is really great in this role and he can sing really well! As far as people stating that he is too short to be a basketball star, he is in high school and the average height and weight varies. I went to school with a very short person on our varsity team as a freshman because he was just really good, so it isnt impossible. i didnt find it too hard to believe except that he wasnt very built. In the second one though he looks more the basketball star. The rest of the cast does and great job and Vanessa has an amazing job. Look past what happened recently in her personal life leaking to the public, and think of it as just that something in a teenagers life that wasnt suppose to be said to everyone in the world. She is still a role model and a great singer.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have.......2007-09-08

All in All the very best musical Ever!Im 48 and think these Actors/Singers Out did Grease 110 percent! My fav being Vanessa Anne Hudgens,Ashley Tisdale and the Talented Lucas Grabeel who plays Ryan. For you Grease Fans you should update your musical because this is a must have and really trully better.

2 out of 5 stars A Whiff of Fascism.......2007-09-06

I know, this is a very popular movie and the music is OK. But the story is stridently insipid: winners win because that's what winners do, and losers lose because there's something wrong with anyone who's not a winner...and don't talk to me about underdogs. Despite the best efforts of its heroically perky cast, the film is nearly humorless. It was suggested that we stage this at our high school, but I've black-balled it.

2 out of 5 stars Bring Back Grease!.......2007-09-01

I finally saw this movie after months of hearing about how unexpectedly brilliant it was, and I have to say I disagree completely. Nothing about this movie was unexpected; everything from the cheesy dialogue to the cliched plot to the corny songs to the caricatures, I mean characters, were predictable to the point of being campy and over-the-top. And not in a good way. Why exactly is a scrawny, short kid the star of the basketball team? What reasonable people are that frenetically obsessed with maintaining the status quo? And what's up with Sharpay and her brother starring in every school show *together*? Incest, that's a new one for Disney. I'd also like to point out that no one would name their two children "Ryan" and "Sharpay." As a disclaimer, I do love bad karaoke, Disney Channel Original Movies, Grease, but I can't see what the fuss is all about with this one. This movie's only redeeming qualities were Gabriella, Kelsi, and that kid who bakes stuff, all of whom I thought were adorable. The only reason this is even getting 2 stars is because for whatever reason, I set my TiVo to record the second one.

2 out of 5 stars Well, the story line was good..........2007-09-01

alright I know this is going to effect my reviewer rank but i can't leave this unsaid, I CAN'T STAND DISNEY ANYMORE!!!! I used to love disney before they got all the teenager relationships!!! It did have a good story line so I'll give some credit to disney for that. if you like teenager sappy romance I guess you"ll love this. I mean no offence to anyone who likes this movie so please don't say this was an unhelpful review. I am just saying what I think.

On the DVD
The two-disc Remix Edition of High School Musical retains all the bonus features of the original DVD and adds a Spanish audio track and 34 minutes of new features. Following a couple minutes of red-carpet interviews from the DVD release party, "High School Reunion" (6 min.) gathers the cast for some more interviews, glimpses of their other Disney Channel credits, and appearances on the Teen Choice Awards and in London and Sydney. The longest feature is the dance-along, in which the cast teaches the choreography for "Get'cha Head in the Game" and "We're All in This Together." At 16 minutes, it allows for move-by-move instruction followed by half- and full-speed runthroughs, though they're facing the camera, so home participants will have to figure out the mirror image or simply ignore the left-right directions and do it backward. And because this is the Remix Edition, there are videos of the remixed versions of "Breaking Free" and "We're All in This Together" as well as a video of "Eres Tu," a Spanish version of "What I've Been Looking For" (the Ryan and Sharpay version) by Mexican band Belanova. Retained from the original DVD are the sing-along subtitles, the making-of featurette, the "Bop to the Top" rehearsal, and the music videos for "We're All in This Together" and "I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You." Not included in this version: the trivia-packed "pop-up edition" that debuted on the Disney Channel on Thanksgiving weekend 2006. So even if the Remix Edition is a little thin for two discs, fans will enjoy the new stuff while they wait for High School Musical 2. --David Horiuchi

Stardom can be a heavy burden for a teenager, but Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) has always risen above the temptation to flaunt her fame, and firmly resolved to keep her true identity as teen rock star Hannah Montana a secret from her classmates, in favor of being perceived as a typical teenager. Miley's resolve begins to falter in this foursome of episodes when famous television star Jake Ryan (Cody Linley) suddenly shows up as a new student in Miley's class. Initially assuming that Jake is just another snooty superstar, Miley's distaste quickly turns to confusion and jealousy over all the attention her fellow students, including her smitten best friend Lilly (Emily Osment), are lavishing on him. Miley's inner turmoil results in an impulsive confession of her true identity to Jake and a local reporter. Miley's father Robbie Stewart (played by Miley's real-life father and famous country musician Billy Ray Cyrus) helps convince the local reporter that Miley is just another drama-loving teenager with grandiose dreams and typically wacky schemes. A visit from Aunt Dolly (played by country music icon Dolly Parton) helps Miley realize the importance of taking chances and reaching for her dreams. In the end, everyone learns an important lesson about being open-minded and staying true to one's goals and beliefs. Bonus features include a "Nobody's Perfect" stage performance video and a brief "The Real Miley Cyrus" featurette in which Miley talks about her childhood, home life, and relationship with her co-stars. (Ages 7 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

4 out of 5 stars So Far, So Good.......2007-08-06

"Hannah Montana-Pop Star Profile" takes four episodes of the highly popular Disney Channel series and boxes them into one disc which includes a brief feature on Miley Cyrus (Hannah/Miley Stewart) and a concert performance from the series. The four episodes focus on the relationship between Hannah and her secret crush, Jake Ryan (Cody Linley). For those unaware, Miley is the daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus of "Achy Breaky Heart" fame. Sure, that was his first and biggest hit, but there's a whole lot more to the man than that one song. He struggled for a long time with his band in order to make it. Unfortunately the Nashville machine destroyed a wonderful star before he really ever got started with his commercial success. Those years of struggle (and some solid values) bleed through on this DVD and the TV series as a whole. Cyrus' daughter doesn't dress or act like a tramp, respects her dad and other elders (as witnessed with her interaction with the legendary Dolly Parton who shows up as her aunt on one of the episodes), and is generally a very good kid. That, my friend, is rare in Hollywood these days.

The tween and early teen stars of the show are actually very fun to watch, and pull off some very comedic moments for kids and adults without having to make vulgar remarks or resort to sophomoric humor to get a laugh. Yes, it can get silly and giggly at times, but that's what life is like for youngsters between the ages of ten and fourteen. Cast members include Emily Osment (Lilly), Mitchel Musso (Oliver), Billy Ray Cyrus (Robbie) and Jason Earles as Miley's goofy brother, Jackson.

To top things off, the music featured in the series is actually very good pop music. It's clean, inoffensive pop that's never boring. Heck, I catch myself singing "Best Of Both Worlds" sometimes.

The bottom line is this: If you don't want your daughter (or son) copying the bratty, questionable looks and behavior of Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, or any other soon-to-be-former pop princesses, give "Hannah Montana" a shot. It's fun for the whole family.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest.......2007-07-27

I purchased this for my 9 year old grand-daughter, I became an instant star in her eyes! She just loves it

2 out of 5 stars The episodes are on Disney Channel all the time, and the 'EXTRAS' ARE A JOKE! .......2007-07-25

Plainly and simply, the contents of this DVD to not live up to the commercials on Disney Channel.

The ads are filled with hype about all the extra features, especially the exclusive look at Miley's personal life. The exclusive look is in fact a really - REALLY - quick peek, as it is nothing more than a 5 minute featurette. The other extra is just a Hannah Montana music video, and I won't count the never ending string of previews as extras because they are nothing but ads for other Disney products.

Aside from the less than 10 minutes of bonus material, there are four complete episodes of Hannah Montana. That's great - if you don't have Disney Channel and can't see all of the same episodes several times a week already.

I will say that Hannah Montana is a great show that my whole family enjoys. In fact, the quality of the show is what keeps me from giving this DVD a 1 star rating. However, it did not live up to the expectations set by Disney's advertisments, and was nowhere near worth the money spent on it.

4 out of 5 stars Hannah Montana on top of the teen world .......2007-07-20

Hannah has grown big time in poularity since she has hit the scene. Her music and show spotlight the talent of the young Miley Cyrus. She is a huge hit with teen and preteen girls especially. I think lots of young girls can relate to Miley. The show deals with many trivial problems teen girls have such as school and boys. The show also portrays Miley as someone searching to find who they are but remain grounded. Whether its the music or the lessons Hannah Montana is good program for teens and a bit younger.

Though the "inspirational teacher" theme may feel done to death, Freedom Writers succeeds because it emphasizes the students as much as the teacher. Erin Gruwell (Hilary Swank, Million Dollar Baby, Boys Don't Cry) comes to a southern California high school bubbling over with naive optimism, but quickly discovers that her unruly classroom isn't easily won over by her good intentions. After a few floundering attempts to connect with her students, Gruwell gives them the assignment of keeping journals about their own lives--an assignment that the class bites into with relish, which eventually bonds them together and pushes racial rivalries aside. This plotline has been made before, sometimes well, sometimes poorly; Freedom Writers, by drawing heavily from the published journals of the students--and thanks to a (mostly) unheroic script, direction that emphasizes individual characters over stereotypes, and rigorous performances from the whole cast--makes the story seem fresh and genuine. Swank does solid work, but the standouts are April L. Hernandez as a girl whose gang wants her to lie and send an innocent boy to jail and Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake) as a teacher who resents Gruwell's offbeat success. Also featuring Patrick Dempsey (Grey's Anatomy), Scott Glenn (The Right Stuff), and a plethora of strong young actors. --Bret Fetzer

5 out of 5 stars Touching and Uplifting.......2007-09-16

Hilary Swank has done us all a big favor in producing and then starring in this wonderful movie about a group of students given up as ineducable by everyone else in her new school and district. She is a brand new teacher with all the hopes and dreams of making a difference, and most of the adults in her vicinity spend their time smirking behind her back and telling her to her face that she is being a typically ridiculous new teacher. They know it all, having been there themselves, and have given up on themselves as change-makers, and on their students as potentially the fertile ground upon which a rich harvest might be cultivated.

What they don't know is that they either didn't have the magic that Swank portrays (this is based on the story of a real teacher), or they gave up much too quickly. Swank's character gets few breaks from almost anyone, except perhaps, her very successful father, who would rather she had chosen a career as a lawyer, but respects what she is trying to do. Attempts to pass on long-term teacherly/administrative cynicism to Swank fail miserably, as do the attempts of her new husband to make her be more reasonable in her demands on herself, her time, and her energy. He just wishes to have her remain a more devoted wife.

This movie is ultimately the story of far too many of the students in our country, who live their lives expecting the failure they are promised by their own educational system. The actors who portray them are finely honed characterizations with little in the way of relief from some of the most painful of real life accounts.

If you are a new teacher, a student, a parent, a citizen of this country which seems to be slipping rapidly in its promises to its students and its own future, this movie is a must. If you are simply someone who wants to watch a well-made, honest piece of film, this is a must. See it and believe it.

5 out of 5 stars I stand in awe.......2007-09-11

The power of this movie lies in its truth-telling. Based on a true story, and the talent and dedication of both Hillary Swank (the star) and Erin Gruwell (the teacher the movie is based on), this movie tells the story of a pebble dropped in a pond that is creating a tsunami of crucial change. This is more than "To Sir with Love," or "Dangerous Minds," because it is a true story that is ongoing.

This movie says that one person, doing the right thing and staying true to their vision, can make a difference one day at a time. The story of Room 203 became the book, then the movie, then the Foundation. Even if the only people changed were the original students in Room 203, that would be more than many teachers have been able to accomplish. Even if only the people touched by the book had been changed, that would be a miracle. Even if only the people who saw the movie "got it," that would be amazing.

And yet, there's layers upon layers of miracles in this story, a story about confronting racism, classism, poverty and violence with true education.

I stand in awe.

4 out of 5 stars A very well-acted, well written, and well directed movie.......2007-09-08

The subject matter is all over the place in other reviews and in the description of the movie, so no sense in rehashing all that in this review, other than to say that the story is utterly compelling - and when I watched the movie, I had no idea it was based on a true story. When the end credits rolled and it made mention of the real people, I was blown away! I can't believe someone exists as amazing as that teacher.

But, plotline aside, you the review reader are more interested in whether the people who put this together pur it together in a way that is actually good.

Yes, they did!

Acting is topnotch all around. Some very brilliant directing, with great emotional use of lighting, shadows, hand-held cam, and so forth.

It feels very real, and dips into the pathos of the characters without getting saccharine or sentimental about it, or portraying a naive sort of neanderthalism.

My only complaint is that the other teacher - I can't remember her name, but she was played by the woman who played the bad lady in The Order of the Phoenix - is one-dimensionally nasty. We never see another side of her. While I don't doubt that she was based on a real person, I can't believe that anyone is that one dimensional. It seemed a rather cheap trick on the part of the writers and director to make her entire being the "bad person", without any humanity. This is one of the reasons I have to give this a four star instead of five.

The other reasons are minor, involving a few slipshod acting moments, the occasional uninspired camera shot, and so forth.

But overall, this is definitely a 4 star, probably a 4.5 star, movie that should go on any movie collector's shelves just for being a well made movie, and should be on other people's shelves for the inspiring, beautiful story that it tells.

Would that all Americans were as amazing as Erin Gruwell.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Movie.......2007-09-05

I am an educator and it truly showed the dedication of a true teacher. I loved this movie.......

5 out of 5 stars Movie in Tolerance and Inspiration.......2007-08-30

This movie is based on the book "The Freedom Writers diary: how a teacher and 150 teens used writing to change themselves and the world around them" by the Freedom Writers and Erin Gruwell. It is an inspiring and uplifting movie, a true story about a teacher in a racially divided school who gives her students a chance to learn that they is a world beyond the one they can see in front of them. Erin Gruwell comes to a southern California high school and discovers that her unruly classroom is not easily won over by her good intentions. She eventually gives them the assignment of keeping journals about their own lives, This assignment is something that anyone can do, write anything they want daily without having to worry about being judged. This assignment and her willingness to listen is what bond the class together. The movie shows that regardless of where you are now in your life, what background, race or culture you come from; that anything is possible if you are willing to work and just try.

Prejudice and acceptance clash in Halloweentown High when Marnie (Kimberly J. Brown) attempts to prove that humans and the supernatural inhabitants of Halloweentown can peacefully co-exist in the mortal world. Thanks to a slip of the tongue, Marnie's brainstorm to sponsor a high school exchange student program between Halloweentown and her own high school quickly turns into a battle to save the Cromwell family's magical powers and keep the portal between worlds open. An already arduous undertaking becomes even more difficult when the supposedly fictional Knight of the Iron Dagger starts haunting the Halloweentown exchange students right in the mortal world. In the end, it is the common mortals who, by demonstrating tolerance and a commitment to equality, possess the power to save the Cromwells' magic and the entire human world. This third movie in the Halloweentown trilogy focuses primarily on Marnie. Aggie (Debbie Reynolds), Gwen (Judith Hoag) and the other Cromwell family members are secondary characters with less prominent roles than in the previous two productions. Makeup and costuming is top rate in this Disney Channel original movie, the trolls and ogres are not too scary, and bonus games and activities are plentiful. (Ages 5 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

He's determined to destroy all things magical, and it's up to Marnie to save her high school, the human world, and her magic. For a bewitching good time, HALLOWEENTOWN HIGH is the perfect treat.

4 out of 5 stars Respectable Sequel.......2007-09-11

The one thing that stands out about this series is its consistency. This sequel fits in logically and is well written for this type of Disney fare. The only part that was annoying was the lack of plot for the youngest child, Sophie. She was certainly left out of the action.

5 out of 5 stars Fun Halloween Movie for all.......2007-08-27

I am a fan of the whole Halloweentown series, but this particular movie is probably the best for a varied audience. My children range in ages: 8, 11 and 15. The first two movies have scenes that are a little too intense for my 8 year old daughter. Halloweentown High has enough "monsters" to make it exciting for my 11 year old son and 15 year old daughter, but nothing too creepy for the 8 year old to handle. The story (the attempt to keep those who are different from being descriminated against) has a very good message as well.

In addition to being a perfect Halloween movie for the whole family, the "extras" section has some terrific ideas for Halloween party games. I definitely recommend this move - and Amazon offers it at a great price.

5 out of 5 stars Great for kids and adults too!.......2007-07-22

If you like to watch with your kids then this is a sure fire hit. Story is entertaining and the actors are great. Plus to see Debbie Reynolds in this type of role is interesting too.The whole series is a keeper.

4 out of 5 stars I love this movie .......2007-03-13

Doesn't have to be audited by an adult before letting your child watch. It is a cute movie about a family that has a problem--- the females are witches. This movie is later on in the series and follows a budding witch into high school. Really cute for adults too.

5 out of 5 stars great movie.......2007-02-07

To bridge the gap between the smash hit Disney Channel original movie and its 2007 sequel, the cast of High School Musical embarked on a North American tour in 2006-2007. If you missed out on the experience of hearing thousands of screaming tween-age kids (probably 80% girls), never fear: the concert is now on DVD. The almost-complete cast comes out to perform every number from the movie, plus numbers by Vanessa Hudgens ("Say OK"), Corbin Bleu ("Push It to the Limit," "Marchin'"), and Ashley Tisdale ("We'll Be Together"), all promoting their solo albums. It's not a stage version of the show--while there's choreography and video clips, the songs aren't performed in order and there's no plot explanation. And at 56 minutes, it's a bit shorter than the actual show was (missing some solo numbers and stage banter). But the kids put out tons of energy and continually thank their fans. Also on hand are Lucas Grabeel, who serves as MC, and Monique Coleman. The only principal absent is Zac Efron (who was filming Hairspray), but Drew Seeley (who cowrote "Get'cha Head in the Game" and reportedly dubbed Efron in the movie) does a good job filling in. DVD bonus features include four songs from the opening set by Jordan Pruitt, a nine-minute making-of featurette, an option to choose camera angles, and a half-minute peek at High School Musical 2. --David Horiuchi

Description

High School Musical has swept the world with its great songs, fabulous production, and positive role models. Now the TV phenomenon is hitting the road with High School Musical on tour! Most of the television stars will be a part of the cast, including Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu and Monique Coleman, with Drew Seeley (who wrote "Get'cha Head in the Game") taking the part played by Zac Efron on TV.

5 out of 5 stars Can;t Get Enough.......2007-08-15

I can't get enough of this DVD. The live auidence gives you so much energy you can't help but sing along to the songs! This Dvd also has 2 songs from Corbin Bleu and 1 song from Ashley Tisdale and 1 song from Vanessa Hudgens. if you loved the movie and the music then you nedd to get this DVD and the concert soundtrack!

4 out of 5 stars Good but..........2007-07-25

I bought the dvd. It doesn't have all the songs from the concert. Jordan Pruitt's opening was missing "We Are Family". They interviewed 6 stars when they were leving one star in the shadow's. She is Jordan. Someone should go to the makers and tell them that this dvd and the soundtrack should have everything from the concert. Also, Jordan is now part of the HSM family.

3 out of 5 stars Could've been better if they sang live.......2007-07-21

I bought this DVD for my daughter who is a die-hard fan of the TV movie and anything associated with it. Actually, the whole family loved the movie.

In addition to the songs from the movie, the DVD also includes songs by Ashley Tisdale, Carbin Bleu, and Vanessa Hudgens. What's disappointing with this DVD is that the concert is about 90% lip-synched. As far as I can tell, Ashley Tisdale, Corbin Bleu and Lucas Grabeel lip-synched all of their songs. I think the only one who got to sing live were Drew Seeley and (I think) Vanessa Hudgens.

But I guess it's kinda understandable that singing is not live since they are not really concert performers and doing a tour such as this one can take toll on one's voice; thus, they resort to lip-synching. Well, it's not as if they're the only ones who do it. I've seen concert videos of Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Britney Spears and Madonna where they also do this. I guess it's already a norm for concerts nowadays. However, it somehow takes away the enjoyment of really hearing live singing from concert performers. It's like they're cheating the people who paid to see and hear them live.

But, nonetheless, this DVD is a good view while we wait for the showing of High School Musical 2 later this year. For this new movie, I wonder if it's still Drew Seeley who sings for Zak Efron.

4 out of 5 stars What can I say? A fun movie is a fun movie..........2007-07-05

The comments of a previous user mirror mine; I'm never one to like movies aimed at a teenage demographic, and in fact, consider a number of more gruesome films to be among my favorites. However, there's just no denying "Wish Upon a Star." Like most people, I first encountered this movie on the Disney Channel when I was younger, and managed to see it a large number of times due to the fact that it was constantly on. It's been some seven-odd years since I last saw it, and after viewing it again today, I'm amazed to proclaim that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sure, there's definitely the nostalgia factor; it really captured the feel of the 90s, especially with the classic 90s alt-rock/pop sound of Moonpools and Caterpillars on the film's soundtrack (look for the band "performing" live in the closing scene). It was also interesting to watch it from an adult perspective (now I understand what the characters meant when they discussed virginity), as well as seeing all of the little bits that Disney trimmed to make it more palatable for younger audiences. Nostalgia notwithstanding, however, "Wish Upon a Star" is simply a fun, enjoyable film. Sit back, relax, and throw out your inhibitions about watching a teenage-geared movie, and you're guaranteed to have a blast.

5 out of 5 stars Suprising for Disney.......2007-06-27

This is one of a kind Disney movie that is different and better than a typical Disney movie. I really recommend this movie to anyone, whether you are or are not a Disney fan.

5 out of 5 stars Great Family Movie!!!.......2007-06-18

A fun family movie!

The performaces are fun, and these leading actresses are really good at their jobs.

The story is simple and fun, and revolves around sibling rivality and high school experiences. Personally, I find this to be a very nice family movie to watch. It's got a nice story line, good writing, great acting, nice music and clothing style, and lot of laughs.

If you want to just sit and watch a nice high school disney movie this is the movie for you. don't expect an Oscar, you will be disappointed, but it's defiantly not a bad movie at all. This movie use to be shown on Disney Channel a lot back in the days, but now it's been taken out completely for a while now. It's safe to buy it, it's not expensive at all and it's worth the few dollars that it's going for.

The DVD and cover looks very girly and you might think it's just another high school girly movie, but I think it has much more than that. Personally I'm a guy and I enjoyed this movie. Beautiful young leading ladies, and lots of laughs to keep me entertained. The parents are very funny, yet clueless as well but their fun to watch.

I highly recommend these good family value movies, their defiantly worth watching and they teach you how to live your life to the fullest, appose to stay in the shadows and wish you were someone else.

Good movie, good price, good acting.

5 out of 5 stars Love it!.......2007-05-22

My sister and I used to watch this movie over and over when we were younger. I'm so glad it's on DVD now!

4 out of 5 stars Perfect for sisters!.......2007-05-21

"Wish Upon a Star" is an adorable movie that my sister and I loved to watch when they used to show it on the Disney Channel in the 90's. 10 years later, I finally broke down and bought it. I'm so glad I did. Its still charming and the slightly dated elements add character and provide some extra laughs. Its a fun "girl" movie to watch especially with your sister.

Jump roping that's worlds away from anything seen on the local playground bursts from the screen in this Disney Original Movie about the clash between two athletes and their respective sports. Boxer Izzy Daniels (Corbin Bleu) has a hard time taking neighbor Mary's (Keke Palmer) devotion to jump roping seriously, but as Izzy trains relentlessly to maintain his undefeated status and win the Golden Glove, Mary's team practices just as intensely for the city Double Dutch finals. Izzy gains a reluctant respect for Mary's sport when he accompanies his sister Karin (Kylee Russell) to a competition, but it takes some serious convincing to persuade him to fill in for a teammate who's abandon the team on the cusp of city finals. Izzy quickly discovers that Double Dutch is more demanding and rewarding than he'd ever imagined, but when the entire school finds out about his newest sporting exploit, he's taunted into quitting. As Izzy tries to regain his boxing focus, he suddenly realizes that winning the Golden Glove is more his father's (David Reivers) dream than his own. After some serious soul-searching, Izzy decides that he can't let what others think keep him from doing what makes him happy. This action-packed Disney Channel Original Movie takes a unique look at the varied world of sports and features some great catchy new music from Corbin Bleu and Jordan Pruitt, but the game-winner is its focus on the importance of following one's heart. 4 out of 5 stars Fast Food for the Soul.......2007-06-01

This DVD was a gift for my wife, who is one of the "Jump In" fans in this house. I don't have quite the enthusiasm for this movie that they do, which leads me to believe that it is something of a "chick flick."

A tight plot, engaging characters, and quick pace put this show several notches above "viewable."

I enjoyed the story of a boy learning how to deal with conflicting demands and responsibilities.

The jump-rope contest choreography is impressive, and helps make this DVD a good buy, although sports purists might question the fusion of jump-rope tricks and boxing in another scene.

Disney Studios seems to be re-discovering the bourgeois inhibitions that made it a global success, so those who require relevance, naughty words, and people with the self-control of an ADHD tomcat in their entertainment will be sorely disappointed in "Jump In." Aside from these deficiencies, this is a highly entertaining musical.

5 out of 5 stars I love this dvd .......2007-05-19

5 out of 5 stars Another great family film starring Keke Palmer.......2007-05-17

I bought this because of child actor Keke Palmer appears in it and I was not disappointed. It's such a fun film with cute actors, lots of incredible double dutch scenes and a great tutorial offered in the special effects section. It's a must have!

5 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING.......2007-05-15

We are from South Africa, and the movie only came on our disney channel after we got the DVD, so my kids were pretty happ with themselves. It was a really nice movie, it was heartwarming, and i found it very touching. We even shed a few tears!!!My kids now want to do Double Dutch!!!

5 out of 5 stars fun family movie.......2007-05-12

This movie won't win any oscars, but it's great for what it is, a great family film. It's so hard to find movies that all of my children (ages 2-10) will sit down and watch and that WE feel good about them watching. This is one of those movies. Made in the same mold as High School Musical, I hope Disney continues to pump out these type of movies. They're slightly cheesy, but a refreshing change from many movies marketed today for kids.

The brief 1980s mania surrounding "the Coreys" peaked with License to Drive, a modest but surprisingly still enjoyable adventure comedy. Les (Corey Haim, Lucas) has a chance to date his dream girl, Mercedes (Heather Graham, Boogie Nights, in her first significant movie role)--but he's just failed his driving exam. Motivated by a mixture of pride and hormones, he steals his grandfather's Cadillac and heads out on the town with Mercedes for a night that swiftly becomes an escalating series of disasters, made worse by the foolhardy antics of Les' best friend Dean (Corey Feldman, Stand by Me). Despite some egregious '80s fashion disasters (Graham gets the worst of them), License to Drive holds up surprisingly well--it's no work of genius, but it is a solidly made and entertaining teen comedy that's more coherent than most. The depiction of parent-teen relations is fairly honest and particularly well-played by Richard Masur (Risky Business) and Carol Kane (In the Soup) as the parents. The DVD includes a very funny and rambunctious audio commentary track by the screenwriter and director, as well as interviews with the grown-up Coreys. A must-have for fans of '80s nostalgia. --Bret Fetzer

5 out of 5 stars The Two Coreys and a cheap price!.......2007-05-13

Came fast, good condition. Was good, haven't seen it since i was like 8 and you see a young Heather Gram. Which i never noticed before.

5 out of 5 stars One of the funniest movie ever..STILL!.......2007-02-17

I watched this movie back in the 80's when I was a kid, and here it is 25 years later and this movie is still the funniest movie of all time. Surprisingly, I actually like most (I won't say all) of the movies the 2 Corey's did in the 80's, but I would say that "The Lost Boys" is my absolute favorite semi-horror flick, and "License to Drive" is my favorite comedy.

4 out of 5 stars Good DVD, absence of subtitles in Language English........2007-01-14

The participation of Corey Haim is spectacular. The story is cool (good entertainment). The absence of subtitles in Language English and in other languages is lamentable.

4 out of 5 stars License to Drive.......2006-11-13

Wow there are so many parts of this movie i just simply did not remember. But still a great movie, especially with the deleted scenes. They are not up to scratch but i am not holding it against afterall the movie is 18 years old. But still allot of fun to watch.

    5 out of 5 stars These two Corey's, definitely 80's teen idols!.......2006-08-24

This movie is totally an 80's flick, but non the less it always brings back feelings of nestalgia! It brings back memories of being that 16yr old that can't wait to get their license. Both Corey Haim and Corey Feldman are perfect for the role. Even though Corey Haim's character fails the written exam, this teen somehow prevails and the outcome is hilarious! And even though this movie is almost 18yrs old, all teen agers can relate to it! This movie is timeless!!
