5 out of 5 stars Great Movie, Great Quality.......2007-09-14

Having been a huge fan of this movie since I first saw it on DVD I was delighted to get a chance to see it in HiDef Blu-ray. I had read an earlier release of The Fifth Element on Blu-ray was lackluster at best, not having seen it myself I can't personally comment. However, this Remastered release on Blu-ray is incredible. The action is certainly not missing in this Bruce Willis flick, but just as much there's the comedy. Chris Tucker plays his character (Ruby Rhod) spot-on. Luc Besson does a phenomenal job putting so many "elements" together in this movie. This movie is not one-dimensional like most Action or Comedy movies. Well worth the time and money.

5 out of 5 stars Excelente!!!.......2007-09-13

Qualidade de imagem e áudio espetaculares! Realmente um Blu-ray autêntico e remasterizado, conduzindo à melhor alta definição disponível no mercado. Parabéns à Sony pela correção do re-lançamento desta versão!

1 out of 5 stars Total let-down.......2007-09-10

The video quality is horrible. The Super Bit release on standard DVD was superior. Sad, as it is one of my favorite movies for picture quality and testing out a new system.

5 out of 5 stars Splendid film, highly recommend.......2007-09-10

Uncompressed audio track is clear, dynamic and and natural. Picture is not the best I've seen in Blu-ray but good nonetheless. The movie is of course one of the best scifi movies ever made. Humor is cracking, main characters deep and the traditional story of all triumphant love is well put out.

5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2007-08-23

Amazon.com essential video

This is the film that cemented Schwarzenegger's spot in the action-brawn firmament, and it was well deserved. He's chilling as the futuristic cyborg who kills without fear, without love, without mercy. James Cameron's story and direction are pared to the bone and all the more creepy. But don't overlook the contributions of Linda Hamilton, who more than holds her own as the Terminator's would-be victim, Sarah Connor--thus creating, along with Sigourney Weaver in Alien, a new generation of rugged, clear-thinking female action stars. It's surprising how well this film holds up, and how its minimalist, malevolent violence is actually way scarier than that of its far more expensive, more effects-laden sequel. --Anne Hurley

Description

In the year 2029, the ruling super-computer, Skynet, sends an indestructible cyborg (Arnold Schwarzenegger) back in time to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) before she can fulfill her destiny and save mankind.

5 out of 5 stars Sci-fi classic.......2007-09-16

It doesn't get any better than this. Self-aware machines stage a coup on humankind. Who will win the battle. The machines are robust - because we built them that way...

Terminator should be in everybody's video collection.

5 out of 5 stars A sci-fi classic.......2007-08-19

Arnold finally found his role when he played an oversized, underemotional robot without too many lines to deliver.

Excellent script and an 80's atmosphere which doesn't feel too cheesy. There's a bit of wooden acting in places but the movie works so well that I can forgive it that.

5 out of 5 stars If you have the name Sarah Connor, RUN!.......2007-08-11

Tripping, dude in real life is pumping iron and winning Mr. Universe awards, beating out that Ferrigno guy that played the Hulk. Then he plays this cyborg dude that comes to Earth to kill off a lady whose son will lead a future revolution against the Robots. Yeah I know you are thinking dang, Bill Gates was probably in on this! No, he was not but Linda Hamilton rox yo world as Sara Connor, now you can spell that Sarah Conner or Sara Connor or whatever, I don't care. What I do care about is that this film really opens the eyes to a bad dude. This dude has red eyes and he gave a whole new attitude in 1984 when he had one ripped out, shrugged and simply donned some blades. Yeah black leather jackets as well. Oh man and then he just starts ripping up this police station!

Well c'mon, not very realistic. Sure you can have cyborgs come here and do stuff, they do all the time but usually they are just in Vegas playing the odds while on a stopover from Venus. Okay the worst part is this...a waitress from Los Angeles suddenly becomes the cops main concern? Yeah right that did not happen in the whole O.J. deal now did it? Real life this lady would not have made it and by the time the cops even had gotten hot on the trail, the Terminator would have been jumping around time warps so much his head would be spinning!

Classic Sci-Fi starring Arnie, who is now a Guv-nah but still pumps iron.

5 out of 5 stars "I'LL BE BACK" GREAT SCI-FI THRILLER SPECIAL EDITION REVIEW!.......2007-08-05

This review is for the special edition. The transfer is excellent and it has some great extra material. The movie itself is a faced pace action film with a pretty cool sci-fi story. If you are not familiar with this character by now......what are you waiting for? The entire trilogy is very good and it is a toss up between the first and second movie for best installment. The second installment had a lot more money to play with and is as good as sequels get. "Arnold" does a great job playing the unstoppable "Terminator"!

Ancient curses, all-powerful monsters, shape-changing assassins, scantily-clad stewardesses, laser battles, huge explosions, a perfect woman, a malcontent hero--what more can you ask of a big-budget science fiction movie? Luc Besson's high-octane film incorporates presidents, rock stars, and cab drivers into its peculiar plot, traversing worlds and encountering some pretty wild aliens. Bruce Willis stars as a down-and-out cabbie who must win the love of Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) to save Earth from destruction by Jean-Baptiste Emmanuel Zorg (Gary Oldman) and a dark, unearthly force that makes Darth Vader look like an Ewok. --Geoff Riley

5 out of 5 stars I watch it Everytime its on!.......2007-08-28

Don't know why I haven't added it to my library yet, because it is an all time favorite. It's weird. It's warped. The characters and acting are over the top. Though its not a cartoon, it plays like cartoon characters. Its got romance. Its got impending doom. Its got ancient dudes. Its got a futuristic society. Its got space travel. Its got a really bad villian. Its got Chris Tucker as this WAY out there music star. I guess its got a little of all the things that make a movie entertaining to watch over and over and over again.

    5 out of 5 stars Watch this!.......2007-08-08

The 5th element is one of the best movies I have ever seen (which is saying a lot). I have lost count of the number of times that I have watched it; suffice it to say that it is worth watching. I even liked the blatant advertising by McDonalds in the movie.

Everything clicked in this 1994 action hit, from the premise (a city bus has to keep moving at 50 mph or blow up) to the two leads (the usually inscrutable Keanu Reeves and the cute-as-a-button Sandra Bullock) to the villain (Dennis Hopper in psycho mode) to the director (Jan De Bont, who made this film hit the ground running with an edge-of-your-seat opening sequence on a broken elevator). This is the sort of movie that becomes a prototype for a thousand lesser films (including De Bont's lousy sequel, Speed 2: Cruise Control), but Speed really is a one-of-a-kind experience almost anyone can enjoy. --Tom Keogh

    Description

Hold on tight for a rush of pulse-pounding thrills, breathtaking stunts and unexpected romance in a film you'll want to see again and again. Keanu Reeves stars as Jack Traven, an L.A.P.D. SWAT team specialist who is sent to diffuse a bomb that a revenge-driven extortionist (Dennis Hopper) has planted on a bus. But until he does, Jack and passenger Sandra Bullock must keep the bus speeding through the streets of Los Angeles at more than 50 miles per hour - or the bomb will explode. A high-octane chase of suspense, non-stop action and surprise twists, Speed is a joyride sure to keep everyone on the edge of their seats.

5 out of 5 stars Hold on tight!.......2007-07-12

Speed starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock is still the best action movie of all-time. This film was released in 1994 and still to this day, Speed never grows tepid or outdated. How can you not love Sandra Bullock? This film put her on the map, she's spunky, fearless, and funny as Annie. So glad Reeves got to play a serious guy who turns into a hero, anyone remember Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure? (so not the movie for him). If you enjoy a good action film then Speed will be your new best friend. A must-have!

Fairly poor image quality -- so bad, that Sony is replacing them all. I ordered this disc two days prior to the replacement offer being announced, so obviously I'm not happy to have to pay another few bucks to ship the disc to Sony and wait for the replacement.

5 out of 5 stars LOVE this movie!!!.......2007-05-28

What can I say? Bruce Willis is at his best, and Milla, an actress, a model, and a singer, all in one, (no, not in the movie), brings her character to life in a beautiful way, like the unfurling of a rose.

The clincher for me was the character, Plavalaguna, the Diva, whose singing performance left me STUNNED. Granted, although I knew it was a bit tweaked, her vocal performance on stage, as well as her presence is enough alone to see this movie, if just to watch her perform "The Mad Scene" from the opera, "Lucia Di Lamamoor". A REAL twist on it, that one must see to experience.

5 out of 5 stars Blu-Ray all the WAY. Bruce Willis in 1080p.......2007-05-26

Blowing things up and the great space scenes can't be matched without 1080p. It's fun to watch over and over.

Recently i bought a PS3 and one of the first movies i bought on Blu-ray was The Fifth Element.
It is by far not the best translation of a movie to the Blu-ray medium but i simply love this movie so much that i had to have it on Blu-ray!
The transfer of this movie to Blu-ray could be better but still it takes your breath away seeing it in a staggering true HD-resolution.
Sony says it is to re-release this movie after it's been remastered on July 17th so if you want it you could try to wait a few months before buying this masterpeace.
Since i live in The Netherlands and should only be able to watch region B blu-ray discs, i was very pleased to see that this movie ( region A )also could be played on my PS3 so i can buy some of the region A movies and still will be able to play them on a region B player!

After a government-spawned "superflu" wipes out more than 90 percent of the earth's population, the devastated survivors must decide whether to support or resist the advances of a mysterious stranger from way down South (heh-heh) who wishes to claim this new world order for himself. Although the six-hour length makes it nigh-impossible to digest in one sitting, this well-paced adaptation of Stephen King's apocalyptic magnum opus ranks among the best adaptations of the author's work, with strong performances from Gary Sinise, Miguel Ferrer, and especially Jamey Sheridan as a good-old-boy version of Old Scratch. The opening scene, set to the strains of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper," is one of the most chilling things ever shot for television. Director Mick Garris is no stranger to King's world, having also helmed Sleepwalkers, the recent television remake of The Shining, and the upcoming Desperation. --Andrew Wright

When I saw this movie all by my self when I was young it freaked me out! Considering that this movie was made for TV it could not have been done better...I plan on read the book soon, sense I loved the movie so much...this in my opinion is the greatest story the King ever wrote, considering that there are so many others just as good.

Watch it...and pick up some Flue Buddy!

4 out of 5 stars Good adaption of the monsterous novel by Stephen King.......2007-07-31

My lady and I both agreed that this may have been more accepted as a major motion picture, but you could not cram this story into that type of time frame. Instead, Mick Garris took the bull by the horns and along with King, set out and made a TV mini series of sorts with it. The film does follow the book fairly well although I did notice some inaccuracies but nobody is perfect. The story is about a super flue virus that is accidentally unleashed after a failed quarantine at a military testing facility. One man who is a guard on duty flees with his wife and baby, only to end up finding out that he had been infected before he left. In 3 months 99% of the population of the Earth is dead, and what is left are two camps of survivors, one good and one not so good. The bad guys are assembled by a spawn of hell, some sort of supernatural demonic power that takes on a human form as a long haired guy in a jacket and cowboy boots. The man is called Randall Flag and he is played by Jamie Sheridan. The good people have dreams of an elderly woman in Nebraska who summons them to follow her to Boulder, Colorado where they will all meet and eventually take on Flagg and his followers. I am dismayed at the reviews that say the casting is bad, this cast is just great! Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald and Rob Lowe just to name a few, and they are all fit for the role that they play in The Stand. The scenes of an empty New York city are very sombering and the ideals of good vs. evil are shown exactly as they should be. I think I liked Rob Lowe as Nick Andros the best, Lowe plays Nick who is a deaf mute and he is amazing in this movie. If people liked the book it is a must see, and even if people did not read the book they still might like it anyways. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the sound quality is not great, not bad just could have been better. Grab a bag of popcorn and turn off the phone and see how the world ends!

1 out of 5 stars Decent adaptation, but appalling cast .......2007-07-06

The Stand is by far the greatest Stephen King novel and one of my personal favorites. And I am not saying this as a die-hard King fan so I believe I am not biased on the subject. However, the movie was anything but great. As such, I am greatly surprised with all the good reviews!

First, in defense of the movie, the adaptation was decent. It wasn't good mind you (how can it be with a 1200 page book), but decent. It did catch the "over-all" drift of the plot but not a bit more. The movie should have been at least double the length (just like they did with Shogun running over 10 hours) to help truly grasp the characters and the "new world" that King built in the novel. Maybe that is too unfair to ask...so be it.

The question comes begging, why only one star? The acting was some of the worst I have ever seen in a film! I felt like I was watching some homemade video that a group of teenagers did for a senior project! Over 90% of the actors made me cringe at their performance over the most basic interactions!
The graphics were ABSOLUTELY PITIFUL to the point where I laughed at the ridiculousness of it all (the nuclear bomb at the end completely looked like a homemade rocket!!!). Not to mention the 80's style rock music deterred from the gloomy atmosphere that comes from the destroyed world King described in the novel.

I actually ended up fast forwarding through the rest of the movie after the half way point because I could no longer endure the pain of watching such a poorily budgeted film attempt to portray one of the greatest books ever written! What a waste of my time!

3 out of 5 stars A bit more true-to-the-book than many other King movies, but ............2007-06-12

It's been too many years since I've read the book, but I recognize plot deviations when I see them. At least this movie didn't veer as far away as Jurassic Park did from *its* book ... or as far away as *other* King movies did from *their* books!

No, really. This movie overall was pretty well done. I, of course, would have chosen some different actors and actresses to play some of the characters, especially Frannie and Nadine, but the remainder of the cast sufficed. The acting was great. The human interaction was very realistic and enjoyable.

I gave this movie a "medium-ish" rating because it really *tried.* And trying is very important. It's just that I read the book first and *everyone* knows better to expect a movie to equal the book it's based upon, right?! :-)

5 out of 5 stars Hollywood Version Different??.......2007-06-11

I just rented this from Hollywood Video and it was on one 2 sided DVD.
    Parts 1-2 side A and 3-4 on side B.
However something is missing here when you flip the disc!........
Side B (Pt 3 Betrayl) opens up with Stu crudely operating on someones body on the floor. (Who is this that dies?)
Ossie Davis(the judge)is also there(When and where did he appear before-storyline?)
Gary S.and Molly R.are already lovers and shes pregnant (When and where did they hookup?)Last thing I saw in Pt 2(Dreams)was Stu telling a jealous Harold he wouldnt cut in on his action.......
There is alot more but my question is are these scenes on the 2 disc set or just not explained? I believe the running time 366 min is the same.
Overall I found it to be one of the best TV mini-series ever.
Those that disliked the Christian elements should take heed. This was truly about the everyday struggles we all go through. The constant battle of good/evil,love/hatred,positive/negative,caring/uncaring,beauty/ugleness,day/night,death/birth and yes God and Satan! It was a story of struggles and having faith that good will over come evil! Even Satans/Flaggs men knew it was wrong but where tempted with lies and promises.Trashman even asked for forgiveness in the end and brought the bomb to end it all.The hand of God was very symbolic, though a bit chessy effect.
If you got anything out of this beautiful epic remember this:
"THE GREATEST LIE THAT SATAN HAS GOTTEN US TO BELIEVE...IS THAT HE DOES NOT EXIST"...Scary stuff indeed: Where will you be a second after you die?
If you cant anwser that with 100% accuracy you need to take a STAND.......

Following the exciting, 2003 animated spectacle Bionicle: Mask of Light, Bionicle 2: Legends of Metru Nui extends Lego's movie franchise based on its Bionicle line of robotic warriors. Legends is actually a prequel to Mask of Light, which focused on the Toa, six guardians of the Matoran tribe on the island of Mata Nui, and the imminent arrival of a seventh member to their ranks. Legends tells the story of how the Toa came to be, chosen from the pool of Matoran youth in the great city of Metru Nui and, though physically transformed, hardly prepared for increased size and superheroic powers. In short order, the Toa--who babble and bicker like agitated adolescents--have to master their new gifts, impress their leader, and prepare to protect their home. Sprawling adventure, nonstop action, and real emotional complexity make this computer-generated universe a continually viable source for endless story possibilities. --Tom Keogh

5 out of 5 stars Good story with good values........2006-02-01

I really enjoyed this movie, even moreso than the first. This story has great rolemodels for kids and shows the importance of believing in oneself and standing up against evil. Vakama, the main character, is especially interesting because he's just this normal Matoran thrown into a position in which he has to save his homeland. One of the morals of this movie is that there is a hero in all of us. This movie is about doing what's right, even when everyone doesn't support you or think it's possible.

I also admire the fantasy world that the creators created. There are six different villages (one Toa or hero is from each one), and each have their own culture. Another topic that the film touches on is that of racial prejudice and how in spite of each group's differences, they can still form friendships and overcome problems together. There is some interesting interplay between the three Toa that are in prison and a wise elder tells them, "Your duty is to ALL Matoran, regardless of village."

The movie is actually kind of deep after you watch it a few times and get the characters and plot straightened out. The movie is also funny. Matau is probably the funniest character in the film.

    I highly recommend this movie.

5 out of 5 stars Better Than the first.......2005-08-06

5 out of 5 stars Bionicle 2=Star Wars Episode two.......2005-06-25

This movie is great! It's just as good as SW Episode 2!Some parts were downright hilarious, now thats true. This is a good movie to watch, I should say. I rate this......5 stars!

    3 out of 5 stars I don't follow.......2005-04-29

Our boys enjoy bionicles more than you think a 4 & 5 year old could, so they loved this movie and asked to see it over and over again. Any kid who loves bionicles will love this movie.

That said, this movie is almost impossible to follow. You find yourself asking, "Who is that?" and "What just happened?" While we watched it, the adults turned to each other and asked "Did I miss something?"

This movie was obviously edited to keep it short (for one reason or another), and almost all explanatory scenes have been cut out. Only when we read the book with our boys did we understand what was actually going on in the movie. Watching the movie, all you could understand was that Makuta is evil, and the Toa must save the Matorans.

The animation is nothing to "wow" over, but gets the job done.

    5 out of 5 stars A fantasy classic.......2007-08-26

After watching this movie, it is easy to see why author J. K. Rowling originally wanted Terry Gilliam to direct the first Harry Potter film.

Not that Chris Columbus didn't do a decent job, but it just makes you wonder what that film would have been like with someone as creative and original as Terry Gilliam at the helm.

Time Bandits is very original and very enjoyable - even today. It holds up very well, despite some of its special effects being very dated by today's standards (doesn't bother me though, there is something more organic about using models and puppets instead of computers and green screens).

Some of the themes may be a little intense for children, but I think most will enjoy this charming adventure story. Gilliam had children in mind while filming this, and it shows. I read that he shot most of the scenes with mid/low angle shots to replicate a child's view-point - very neat.

I can't recommend this film highly enough, it is one of my all time favorites. It has everything: great writing, remarkable characters and breathtaking visuals.

3 out of 5 stars Time Bandits is kid friendly Python.......2007-07-23

I used to watch this as a kid and enjoyed seeing it again as an adult. I found it was kid friendly for my 7 and 10 year old and in some ways more appropriate than all the imagery on the screen they get pounded with today's movies. It is funny (hilarious in parts) and just plain entertaining in other parts. If you are a Monty Python fan, you'll appreciate this the most. While it is not the best movie in the world, it does deserve some credit for its originality, humor and production value.

    4 out of 5 stars Intelligent insanity.......2007-06-20

British humor is unique and could be considered an art form in and of itself. British humor in the form of a science-fiction adventure movie is something else altogether. This movie, along with Brazil and the Adventures of Baron Munchausen, form a trilogy of fantasy classics by Terry Gilliam. Whereas Brazil is more of an apocalyptic view of the future, and Baron Munchausen is steeped in Greek mythology and European history, this movie is more of a pure adventure story with lots of ridiculous scenes thrown in.

The plot of Time Bandits is simple. Six dwarfs, servants of God, steal God's map of time-space and use it travel throughout human history. They stop at various times and places to steal loot from wealthy individuals, such as Napoleon (Ian Holm) and King Agamemnon (Sean Connery). Along the way, the sink with the Titanic, and get robbed by Robin Hood (John Cleese). They pick up an English boy living at the end of the 20th century, and bring him along in their travels. In the end, they encounter Evil himself, and have to be rescued by God.

This movie is classic British humor. Sarcasm and wit overflow; action scenes are funny because of how ludicrous they are, and scene after scene pokes fun at the powerful. The scenes with the dwarfs are also great, as they alternate between hitting each other Three Stooges style to performing feats worthy of any circus. For such an old movie, the film quality was great. The special effects were believable, but did not distract from the storyline. The dialog was also good. Unfortunately, the soundtrack was nondescript, and parts of it sounded like it was copied from The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. But overall, a good movie and quite interesting to watch.

3 out of 5 stars Classic but not perfect.......2007-06-07

Unlike many Americans, I have this love of British humor. Or would that be humour? Well, there is something to English hilarity; that dry, mature comedy that carries with it an adolescent streak Americans too often translate as juvenile in their our own format. True, Gilliam is American, but his humor is far from. In Time Bandits, one of his best works, we get to travel alongside the Supreme Being's ousted aides as they try to find a new living as time traveling thieves. Of course they fail at every turn until their greed lands them in the hands of Evil himself. David Warner is the stand out in this movie. I literally love every performance he has ever done. And Sean Connery, who knew he could give a subtle, unselfish performance. There are plot holes which nagged at me, especially the point that everyone, no matter the era, speaks English! Still, this is an adventure that can't help but to resurrect the child in you. Movies like this are a rarity in the modern age.

5 out of 5 stars The Folks Who Made This Film Had To Be High....Thankfully!!.......2007-03-29

I have always thought this movie was one of the strangest movies around. I really enjoy dark movies and this one is no exception. The storyline twists and turns so much. The characters are great along with the little guy actors who played them. The scene on the beach when they break the mirror is cool. This dvd is better than the first edition released but it could still be done better I would think. It gets five stars because it's a great adventure movie that's really dark and twisted.

I am 11 Years Old, and I am a Sitcom King, GOOD TIMES ended heartbreaking for me, because during the past Five Seasons (1974-1978), The show was very Popular and Hilarious during the 1974-1975 season and the 1975-1976 season, in The Start of The 1976-1977 season, James (John Amos), went to work in Jackson, Missisippi, with the Evans clan coming along, but since James was killed in a Car crash, The Show "jumped the shark", at the end of March 1977, Esther Rolle quit the show, because of this she was Ill, and left for the 1977-1978 season, but returned if the Carl Dixon character was never existed, and J.J. (Jimmie Walker) becoming more of a Respective character for African-American children, The Sixth Season introduces new cast member, Ben Powers, who plays Thelma's New interest, Keith Anderson, in the 4-Part episode, and they get married, in January 1979, The show was put on Hiatus, and did not return until May 1979, and Good Times aired it's last episode on Wednesday August 1, 1979.

GOOD Times was the hit 70s sitcom for Americans of The United States, but since the final three seasons, wasn't so great, the show had just went downhill, if John Amos returned back to the show, and wouldn't be killed off, the first three seasons (1974-1976), was big hit, but later on, became J.J.'s New Show.
