Halloween Fun.......2007-03-05

Kenny and Co. was very enjoyable in many ways and I have only one negative thing to say about it. First the negative: I really hated the soundtrack. I didn't think it was appropriate for the time period and I didn't think it was good from a musical perspective. For me, the music really took away from the authenticity of the movie. That being said, everything else was pretty good. I'm especially impressed by the information presented in the commentary that comes with the movie. The commentary reveals that this movie was made with a very low budget, with a very small and young crew, and mostly inexperienced actors. The episodic nature of the movie also gets some discussion in the commentary. While most movies rely on a plot to keep the viewer interested, this movie is interesting despite a rather loose plot. It's kind of a series of vignettes strung together around the theme of childhood during Halloween as it might be experienced by twelve year old boys in the 1970s. This movie does not present brilliant comedy, incredible action, or serious social commentary, but it is light-hearted fun. Although there are moments where the presentation gets a little thin, overall this movie is worth watching. At least, I liked it (except for the music) and I'd recommend it to my friends to watch.

70s time capsule.......2006-07-25

It brings back the feelings I had watching it in the late 70s on HBO, just the music alone did it for me. At that time, I would have given it 5 stars, but watching it now, I can't say that it is a perfect movie. I don't know of any other movie or TV show that captures the life of a 10-14 year old in the mid 70s as well as this movie. This was childhood on the precipice of the modern technological age of youth.

WOW. A film about MY life. .......2006-04-24

I grew up in SoCAl and was 10 when this film was released. Seeing it for the first time as an adult, I'm astounded at how accurately the film portrays life for a boy at that time. I was that boy. Same bully, same girl trouble, same Hang Ten shirts, same plastic skateboards, same pranks, and Halloween. Even the crazy old ladys' house had my boyhood address. So, my rating is quite biased. I am so thankful for this movie. Funny what a quiet little movie about a few days in the 70s can amount to.

They are preserving some wonderful and off-beat movies that we grew up with.

Kenny & Co. defies categorization -- it's so much more than a comedy or a family film. It's alternately funny and poignant, but it never comes off as contrived or sappy.

I wish more movies could be like Kenny & Co., becuase it's not tied to a conventional plot or story. We just follow Kenny in the days leading up to Halloween.

It's a very HONEST portrayal of pre-teen life. The kids are better actors than the adults.

don't pass up seeing this one-of-a-kind movie that is finally availible on DVD!

Excellent 2nd Film from Don Coscarelli jr. !!!!!.......2005-09-14

I have Nver seen this film but decided to purchase it here after reading the Glowing reviews here and I have to say that I think this film is Even Better then I could have Imagined !!! All of the Coscarelli trademarks are here in Abundance from His Unique sense of humor to his Unique way of making a scene downright Creepy like when the boy's are in the Haunted house. Plus Check out Michael Baldwin from Phantasm as He is an amazing Skatboarder !!! Loved this Film...Only Phantasm is Better in my Opinion. :)

Great performances: orchestra, conductor and soloists. Glyndebourne productions are always fascinating. Trevor Nunn's direction first-rate.

DVD quality is fine. Video and audio quality excellent considering this is a 1983 analogue source.

Horrible picture makes this too annoying to watch.......2007-03-04

After popping in this DVD and seeing the picture I thought something was wrong with my TV the image was so poor. The picture was extremely grainy, and there was a horrible "screen" effect making this dvd unwatchable. Fortunately, when I put in another dvd, the picture was crisp and beautiful on my 40" HDTV. If you don't mind the look of a poor-quality video, buy this, but beware, the quality is extremely bad.

Description
