Abuse Is Not To Be Taken Lightly.......2006-12-18
That's the message here; and this is what can happen if action is not taken. Candace Cameron and Fred Savage leave their days as child stars behind in this 1996 NBC television movie, based on a true story. Stacy Collins (Cameron) is a junior in high school who is shy and uncertain, but when she begins dating handsome senior and star of the school wrestling team, Bobby Tennison (Savage), she feels loved and protected. But behind his charming exterior, Bobby's sweet behavior (leaving her flowers in her locker, giving her gifts, etc.), is a controlling, possessive nature which Stacy tries to dismiss. But he closely monitors her every move and feels threatened if she spends time away from him. Physical violence is commonly introduced. Their friends suspect that things are not as rosy as they seem, but only Stacy's best pal Nicky (Heather McComb) tries to persuade her to end the relationship. Trapped in the feelings of isolation and blaming herself for his inexcusable actions, Stacy lives in fear. Bobby's cousin informs Nicky that he had also mistreated his previous girlfriend (who transferred to to get away from him), and after yet another public fight (during a great school dance, where the nifty 50s is the theme), Stacy, encouraged by Nicky, tells Bobby that it's over. A truly unnerving moment in the hallway after she breaks it off, when he tells her he will never give her up. Through the wired glass of the classroom door his face is like cold, evil granite, his gaze like the black coals of hell. Bobby, under the guise of wanting to stay friends, asks her to come over to his house to give him a haircut. Inevitably, another spat occurs, and, instead of taking her home, he takes her out to a nearby lake where they had their first date. Only Bobby returns to the truck, to the horror of his friend Vince (Eric Balfour), and with blood on his hands. "If I can't have her, no one's gonna," Bobby chillingly states. Stacy is missing; her frantic mother Laura (Michelle Phillips), and friends search for clues, along with the local police; Stacy's ex-boyfriend is strangely calm. Vince, riddled with guilt, makes an anonymous call to the cops, telling them to go look out by the lake. He is eventually brought in for questioning, while Nicky informs Laura of Bobby's abusive tendencies. Vince tells what he knows, and then the investigation moves to Bobby, who finally cracks under the pressure. When Stacy refused to go back to him, he had slit her throat and dumped her body in the lake. Sally Jessy Raphael makes a special appearance as the judge who hands down the life sentence to a stone cold Bobby. She then admonishes all others involved for not speaking up - this is what can happen if you don't.
Those who remember Savage as the wholesome Kevin Arnold on "The Wonder Years" will be surprised at how effective he is - romantic and attractive one minute, angry and obsessive the next. The way Bobby treats his mother, his abusive father's past, and his anger in the wrestling ring are subtle hints of things to come (as is the moment when Stacy takes a shower at Nicky's house - it's pretty obvious that she is being watched). Cameron, who has always excelled at playing kind, naive, gentle characters, does a great job, as always. Heather McComb is the best friend every girl should have, while Michelle Phillips gives just the right amount of balance as the caring but distracted mother who is too busy with work and her own lowlife boyfriend (whom Stacy despises), to realize the dangerous situation her daughter is in.
Hopefully, stories like this will raise more awareness - too many people have looked the other way.
The DVD: This version is slightly different than the one that aired on television. Two Belinda Carlisle songs have been replaced with more current music. The only extras are trailers for direct to video films.
A message that never gets old.......2006-06-22
Candace Cameron and Fred Savage shake off the goody-goody images associated with the roles that brought them teen stardom on Full House and The Wonder Years. Cameron plays Stacy Collins, a normal high school girl full of insecurities who happens to land the class hunk. Savage is Bobby Tennyson, high school wrestler and all-around popular guy. When these two get together, Stacy finally knows what it feels like to be a part of the in-crowd and is so grateful she's willing to look past Bobby's numerous faults.
Their relationship starts off normal enough with Bobby wooing Stacy with flowers and love poems, but he gets progressively more possessive and jealous. Stacy initially thinks it's cute that Bobby is so protective until it gets to the point where he becomes overbearing and irrational. Even when he starts hitting her, she defends him to her friends telling them that you stick by the people you love. "Everything's fine" becomes her mantra even though those closest to her can plainly see that it's not the case.
This relationship closely mirrors the one in which Stacy's mother is involved. Her mother is too absorbed in her own dating situation to understand and acknowledge what's going on with Stacy. Stacy assumes the maternal role, in fact, berating her mother for allowing her boyfriend to treat her badly though she's willing to overlook Bobby's abusive nature. In fact, when her mother confronts her about the abuse, Stacy says "That's your story, not mine." That Stacy's mother backs off at this point is a disgrace and this film strives to point out that in any situation no one should let abuse slide.
This film came out in the early 1990's and was one of those Sunday Night movies aimed at letting teenagers know the ills that will befall them if they're not careful. It's stuck with me all these years because the message is delivered without a scolding undertone, but instead as a reminder of what can go horribly wrong if you let things spiral out of hand. Sally Jessy Raphael has a guest role as the judge in Bobby's trial and she reminds those present who witnessed Stacy's abuse that we have a responsibility to the people who we care about. It's a foolish and dangerous practice to simply shake off abuse with the adage "Love Hurts." It shouldn't.
a powerful made for TV drama.......2006-06-12
I've only seen this movie once on TV back when it first aired like 10 years ago. It was an intriguing drama that drew me in until the credits. It is very well done and the acting is top notch. It was refreshing to see Fred Savage and Candice Cameron in dramatic roles. After watching it I wanted to see it again. When I found out it was coming out on DVD I was really excited. If you haven't seen it I recommend you do if you like dramas. Don't let the made for TV fact scare you. It could have easily been in the theatre in the 80's even though it is not an 80's movies. I'm just saying it is top notch quality. If you can get your hands on a copy of this you won't be disappointed.

Sex. Seduction. Liposuction. Find them all in the fearless Nip/Tuck, the award-winning series that's the scalpel's edge of entertainment...and the spark for debate about what cosmetic surgery can or cannot bring to a patient's life. Dylan Walsh and Julian McMahon play plastic surgeons/best friends whose glamorous South Beach practice is a revolving door for Season 4's hot-button issues (including a terrifying story arc about an organ-harvest ring) and human foibles (a ventriloquist wants to look like his dummy). Guest stars include Jacqueline Bissett, Larry Hagman, Alanis Morissette, Mo'Nique, Rosie O'Donnell, Brooke Shields and more. Thrills, surprises, shocks, stars abound in this 5-Disc Set. And all it takes is a little Nip/Tuck.

It's about time.......2007-09-07
Nip/Tuck is up there as one of the best shows on TV. Being able to finally watch it in HD is a real treat. Nip Tuck is aired on FX which does not bradcast in HD. I have all the previous seasons on DVD and they look average at best with sub par audio.
I am only half way through this season, but the writers have stayed true to the format that has been working in the past. Plenty of over the top surgery scence, Christian still is banging the hottest women in South Beach, Matt gets even more mental, Sean is still trying to keep his family / practice in one piece and Julia gives birth to the penguin.
Its worth the extra cash to get the HD version if you can.

why 6 discs??.......2007-09-16
its a blu ray
which is 50 giga per disc
why then making too many discs?
the uniq thing about blu ray
is the size of it and that it can hold
all the season on 1 single disc
but making it on 6 !!!
come on..
Best Season for the Best Show on TV.......2007-09-11
I love that Lost is coming to Blu-Ray. Now I get to see one of the best looking shows on tv in High Def. I am so glad I got a PS3.
Why not a HD-DVD version avaliable?.......2007-09-06
Please, stop with this ridiculous format war.
Realease all of them in the both formats.
Is there was a HD-DVD version, I would have rated 5 stars!
Finally! The Greatest Show In HD !.......2007-08-12
With a show like Lost where there are so many vivid colors and beautiful beaches (not to mention women) it needs to be in high-def to fully appreciate it! Thank you disney for stepping up and releasing it on Blu-ray, I just pre-ordered it. I had the enjoyment of watching season 3 of Lost in HD and let me tell you it rocked my socks! sadly I don't own a tivo so I only got to watch it once when it aired on HD. I'm looking forward to finding out what exclusives with be on the Blu-ray version because I read they are putting extra things that won't be on the DVD version. And of course I am drooling at the thought of season 1 and 2 on Blu-ray in the near future! but for now December 11th can't come soon enough!
Plain and Simple... Buy This! .......2007-08-09
Season 3 was great. It had a slow start for about the first 6 episodes, but it really cranked up after that. I hope they release Season 1 and 2 on Blu-Ray also.

Excellent Original Concept, Great writing!.......2007-05-16
This series was such a breathe of fresh air in a time of stale animated shows. The use of the famous historical figures as characters for the show is brilliant and the way each of them is portrayed is great. Each of them displays the characteristics of stereotypical roles in teen movies/shows but never loses the tongue-in-cheek quality to them. If you like some of the stuff coming out of Adult Swim now-a-days, I recommend you check this series out.
Just plain not funny...........2007-05-11
Clone a group of disparate historical figures and follow them as they navigate their way through the angst and hormones of modern high school life, and you get 13 "very special episodes" of Clone High. Some talented guest stars appear as themselves or to voice other animated characters. But it's just not funny. I can see why it didn't even last a full season on MTV. I love Adult Swim lineups, Family Guy, Simpsons, etc. but this never hit my funny bone. It's clear from the dvd "extras" that the creators consider their work hysterical! Well good for them.
Best Show Ever.......2007-03-09
This is the most hilarious show I have ever seen...well maybe not that funny but still pretty damned good. I have already been through all the episodes about 15 times since I got it a couple of weeks ago. Say whaaaaaaat?!
Finally! Available on DVD!.......2007-02-10
MTV ran this show for a while, but for whatever reason, stopped playing it altogether. This show should've never been pulled from their lineup. It's one of my top 5 animated series' of all time!
Best show ever!.......2007-01-16
Each character is hilarious in their own way, and the situations are brilliant. This is my favorite show of all time, and each episode is gold. Period.

Robert Bolt's successful play was not considered a hot commercial property by Columbia Pictures--a period piece about a moral issue without a star, without even a love story. Perhaps that's why Columbia left director Fred Zinnemann alone to make A Man for All Seasons, as long as he stuck to a relatively small budget. The results took everyone by surprise, as the talky morality play became a box-office hit and collected the top Oscars for 1966. At the play's heart is the standoff between King Henry VIII (Robert Shaw, in young lion form) and Sir Thomas More (Paul Scofield, in an Oscar-winning performance). Henry wants More's official approval of divorce, but More's strict ethical and religious code will not let him waffle. More's rectitude is a source of exasperation to Cardinal Wolsey (Orson Welles in a cameo), who chides, "If you could just see facts flat on without that horrible moral squint." Zinnemann's approach is all simplicity, and indeed the somewhat prosaic staging doesn't create a great deal of cinematic excitement. But the language is worth savoring, and the ethical politics are debated with all the calm and majesty of an absorbing chess game. --Robert Horton

Inspiring, well acted film.......2007-09-09
I've seen this movie at least 5 times. It's one of those rare films that I can watch over and over and enjoy it as much each time. The cast is fantastic. The film reminds me of the days when actors could act. It's a mistake to miss this one.
dvd might have been defective.......2007-08-31
This is an excellent movie, but the dvd inexplicably "stalled" in the middle of the movie. I had to fast-forward to see the rest of the movie. I have yet to go back and replay it to see if it will play all the way through, so there is still part I have missed.
A Man for All Seasons Review.......2007-08-25
Good Quality. I just had to clean the disc. The Movie kept skipping around and stopping. After I cleaned it ,it was great to sit and watch.
The King's good servant, but God's first.......2007-08-12
This is one of my top 5 favorite movies. St Thomas More's life proved that some principles are worth dying for and reminds one of Christ's warning: What does it profit a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul? Paul Scofield is great as St. Thomas, and the final trial scene features especially good acting and rhetoric.
A FILM FOR ALL YEARS.......2007-08-06
A Man for All Seasons is superb story telling. Excellent performances and a script that is neither condescending or 'playing to the lowest common denominator' brings over the horror of the politics of Henry's court.
Paul Schofield is simply stunning and it is a film that rewards on countless viewings. I cannot recommend it too highly.

More Beverly Hills 90210 than Freaks and Geeks, Sweet Valley High looks at the lives and loves of the popular kids rather than the outcasts. Cynthia and Brittany Daniel star as twins Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield in the television version of Francine Pascal's best selling book series. With their seemingly perfect Southern California lives, Liz and Jess are more Betty and Veronica, from the Archie comics, than the high school girls of any other TV series. In other words, Sweet Valley Highis escapism, pure and simple--and what's wrong with a little escapism? While both girls are part of the in-crowd, there are differences between them. Liz, a reporter for the school newspaper, is the good one, while Jess, a cheerleader, is the not-so-good one.
Created by Josh Goldstein (American Dreams), The Complete First Season includes all 22 episodes broadcast between 1994-1995. Supporting characters include Liz's boyfriend Todd (Ryan James Bittle) and best friend Enid (Amy Danles) and Jess's best friends Lila (Bridget Flanery) and Patty (Amarilis). Rich kid Bruce (Brock Burnett), his pal Manny (Harley Rodriguez), token nerd Winston "Eggman" Egbert (Michael Perl), and a few teachers--but no parents--round out the cast. Most of the conflicts the girls face are created by devious, self-centered Jess, who pretends to be her sister whenever Liz has something she wants, like a potential college boyfriend ("Dangerous Love"), a broadcasting gig ("Oracle on Air"), or praise from the hot poetry teacher ("Poetic Injustice"). Sweet Valley High ran on FOX for three seasons, followed by a fourth and final season on UPN. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Description
Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield are identical twins who live in the suburb of Sweet Valley in Southern California. Although they appear to be identical on the outside, they have completely different personalities. Usually their friends can tell them apart, but sometimes one twin gets mistaken for the other. These cases of mistaken identity are often the driving force behind their most entertaining adventures -- and misadventures. Based on the popular book series by Francine Pascal, this teen favorite stars Brittany and Cynthia Daniel -- winners of the Young Artist Award for "Best Performance by a Young Actress in a TV Comedy Series." Now, in this 3-disc DVD set, you can experience all 22 episodes of the romance and adventure that make up the first season of SWEET VALLEY HIGH.

SWEET VALLEY HIGH is a miraculous piece of work! I saw all that I could, when it was on network TV...and loved 99% of it!
PLEASE....CAN WE HAVE THE OTHER SEASONS ON DVD AS WELL? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would buy them immediately? (If they can't be put on DVD...how about audio CDs or cassettes? As you can see, I REALLY, REALLY WANT TO OWN THE E N T I R E SERIES!
The hallmark of this series...what sets it apart from most other teen shows, (or any TV shows, for that matter), is the GREAT WITTY WRITING! I kept a long list of the witty, delightfully non-politcally correct repartee of this show, and still have it. Such phrases as "I don't want to be politically correct -- I want to think for myself!", "Do you have a licence to be rude?", "Why do I need a 'sense of closure'?", "Other people can think the way they want, cause I don't care!", "I am SO over this 'selfless' thing!", "Everything here is just so small, and insignificant, and ugly!", "Too much is never enough!", "I'm worth it...I'm worth it ALL!", "When did you go mortal?", "I am NOT your way-average worker!", "It takes time to look this good!", "It's NOT that I don't have a work ethic...it's that I despise manual labour!" "Do I look as good as I think I do?", "Make sure your dress and hair are right -- that's all anybody cares about." "How is the air up there on Olympus?", and the immortal, "Limos, LIMOS....L I M O S !"....might not be what is taught in Sunday school...but it IS what goes on in the minds of (too?) many teens and pre-teens. It's good to see it come out...for usage in dealing with real-life bullies, ("How is the air up there on Olympus?", "Do you have a licence to be rude?), and also to see how Too Much Egoism can lead to bad consequences...as Jessica Wakefield. the more opportunistic of the two twins in this series, often finds to her chagrin, (and the viewers satisfaction). The kinder Elizabeth Wakefield, (her twin), also seeks fame and fortune...but not quite so much at the expense of others, as her twin would do.
I haven't read any of the "SVH" books, (so far)...so I am still confused as to where the girls' parents are. One never sees them, and they are never mentioned. Are they alive or dead? Are they millionaires who have given their daughters their own home, and gone on with their own lives? One is left in limbo as to this....and it does have a deleterious effect on the believability of the show. If the parents aren't there...please tell us why, and where they are!
I like the idea of the sweet, simple, happy-go-lucky guy friend of the girls...who turns out to come from a very, very wealthy family. It's nice to know that all rich people are not totally stuck up. (Reminds me of the time that Richard Nixon tried to marry off one of his daughters to Prince Charles...but that Prince Charles found Ms. Nixon "too royal" for his taste!
It's not money, but character, that makes anyone the person he or she is....)
Anyway, this is one great series! I'm glad the first season is on DVD! And since I just bought my first DVD player, I'm going to buy it! I suggest that anyone else who is looking for some great dialogue, fine acting, teen-age capers, and wonderful phrases for assertiveness training, and who can afford the price of this priceless set, do so as well!
To repeat: PLEASE MAKE THE OTHER SEASONS OF THIS GREAT SHOW AVAILABLE AS WELL!!!!! : )
ADDENDUM: I have just bought and viewed some of the episodes of the first season, and realize that some of the phrases used, and characters described may not be in the first season...but from
further seasons. The very indelibility of these phrases and characters attests to how wonderful they are. Hopefully, when these other seasons are released, they can be viewed, (in all their glory!), as well!
Sweet Sweet Sweet.......2006-05-16
OK. This series is based on the book, yet the episodes don't really with the book plots. It is worth the purchase, especially if you do not have great Tv channels, like me. The acting is not fab, as some of the actors aren't really hot until season 3 (Todd)lol.
For people who enjoy the books, this is worth the purchase, as there are no more SVH books to read. I own almost all of them!
the DVD set alows you to see a different side to the book, where you can actually view the actions, instead of reading them. The only downside is that it is 20min per episode.
MY REVIEW.......2006-04-23
I remember reading reading my frist sweet valley twins and friends book.My school libaryian showed them to me in 3rd grade! ever since then i've been on the edge of my seat in suspense reading every sweet valley book. i remember reading the covers one time...and seeing that IT'S A SERIES!I was so excited. I looked on the last page and found the listings.Unfortunally my home town wasn't on the listings..I was so sad..But i remember catching some episodes out of the blue. One day i was surfing the internet for Sweet valley related thing. And i saw this DVD. I was so excited and itmeditly i asked my mom if she would order it.I waited a little while for it to come. I am proud to say it was worth the wait...Any way i poped it in and was a little disappointed. I thought it would be like the EXCAT book. But then as i saw more i related how they are alike to the books.I couldn't watch them for awhile beacaues of other things.Lately i've been watching a TON. And as i watch i see how they are alike to the books even more.Even though Todd and Bruce look PRETTY weird and the fact that there's no ADULT parents...But ADULT teachers was a tunoff but the greatness of the DVD replaced that minor complaint. I hope This DVD makes a sucess beacause then they'll make the 2nd...3rd...and 4th seasons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's the opposite of Freaks and Geeks. MTV's documentary series Two-A-Days is a look at the lives of the popular kids, the varsity football players and cheerleaders of Alabama's Hoover High. If the film-turned-TV program Friday Night Lights is fiction that feels like fact, Two-A-Days takes the fiction out of that equation. The show spends an entire season with the Buccaneers--two practices every day. At the start of 2005, the Bucs are in the midst of a 23-game winning streak. That can't last forever. It doesn't. As in the NBC drama, the town revolves around football, which adds to the stress level, i.e. when the Bucs lose, the community mourns. The primary players are Ross (quarterback), Repete (defensive end), Goose (defensive tackle), and Max and narrator Alex (safetys). As Alex notes in the pilot ("Kickoff"), "At Hoover, football is like a religion and the players on our high school team are celebrities." The top dog is tough-talking head coach Rush Propst, who gives R. Lee Ermey's Full Metal Jacket drill sergeant a run for the money. They're a charismatic bunch, but it's too bad gentle giant Bryan, a band member during the off-season, gets such short shrift.
In the first season (the series was renewed for a second), the players deal with injuries, demanding parents, and suspicious girlfriends. They ease the pressure with pranks and parties. Their biggest pressure: Will the Buccaneers win their fourth consecutive state championship or will they let personal problems get in the way? The answer comes in the eighth episode ("One Last Game"). The ninth ("What Next?") wraps up the rest of the year, while the third disc ("Overtime") features highlights, outtakes, and promo spots. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

I live five minutes from Hoover High...........2007-02-22
Before the show came out, I was really excited about it. I was wondering how MTV would display Hoover's team and its players. I was kind of worried they would ruin Hoover's good image. Overall, I think they did a pretty good job. I think the show does do a good job depicting how high school is like from the point of view of the "popular" students - football players and cheerleaders. As for the show itself, I was rather disappointed at times because I was expecting the show to focus more on football and not on social relationships such as teen dating. At times it seemed the show focused little on football. I didnt like that. I wanted to see more indepth coverage of practices and games. With that said if I was a teen, I probably wouldnt mind the social aspect of the show. Its just not what I'm in to. If you are, I say great this is the show for you, however, if you are strictly a football fan looking for a documentary showing indepth coverage of a high school football dynasty you may be disappointed. Regardless, I'm proud of my hometown team and think its rather neat MTV picked us to do a show on.
Two-A-Days is Awesome!.......2007-01-02
Two-A-Days has got to be the best show ever to come out of MTV. The DVD takes you back to that season over and over again. The special features are a nice addition to a great set. I have to say, after watching this show, it has made me look back into my life and re-evaluate everything in my life! The show is so gripping, heartwrenching, and moving that it will stay with you days after watching just one episode! Can't wait for the second season to start on January 30th!
MAX THE GREAT!.......2006-12-31
EVEN THOUGH I AM MAX'S GRANDMOTHER, I CAN SAY, WTHOUT PREJUDICE, THAT THIS WAS AN AMAZING AND SPELLBINDING SHOW. THE TEAM SPIRIT AND THE TENSION OF EACH GAME WERE TERRIFIC. OF COURSE MAX WAS MY FAVORITE, BUT ALL OF MEMBERS ON THAT GREAT TEAM WERE AWESOME! NOBODY COULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER QUARTERBACK THAN ROSS AND ALEX, AND "REPEAT" WERE GREAT TOO!!!

Aspect Ratio.......2007-09-13
Why on earth did they change the aspect ration from 16.9 to 4.3, it completely ruins this great show...shame on you.
Cheeky!.......2007-09-13
This review pertains to both Season 1 and Season 2 of Mile High.
This is really a fun, entertaining, and sexy British show.
Ever wondered what it is like to be a flight or cabin crew of an airline? This sexy series will show you a lifestyle you thought possible only in real life (or is it the other way around?). This series is really realistic, and I can testify to this!
Infidelity, sex, friendship, revenge, nudity (lots and lots), emergencies, death...are just a few of the action awaiting you as you travel with the crew of Fresh Airline to sexy European destinations (and in Season 2, you'll travel to International destinations such as Toronto and Bahrain).
The characters are very well thought off and convincing. Throughout the series you will have a love/hate relationship with them, and this is what makes the characters so believable. At the end of the series you will really miss the characters--they really do grow on you. And they might learn a thing or two from you--or is it the other way around?
Do all airline captains cheat on their wives, and do they become less likable by the viewer when they do? You might just be surprised, or rather be surprised at yourself. The sins of one are also the sins of others, whatever this means.
Do all captains keep a girlfriend at each port of call? And how about the copilots and the cabin crew, are they as promiscuous as the captain? Why is there always a gay cabin crew (who by the way is one of the funniest characters)?
Ever heard of a nudist flight (i.e. flight with nude passengers)? Do you think the flight crew fly their aircraft while nude too? Watch the series and find out for yourself!
What does friendship mean when you are a mile and more above the earth in an aircraft? Does your job come first or your friends?
Is it OK to cheat your airline, and how far will one go to do so? Will you go out with your ex-girlfriend's best friend (that is, after cheating your airline)?
Have you taken a flight lately? You might just decide to take one after this series. In fact, this series might be a great motivator for couch potatoes to go fly to a sexy destination! You will never fly the same way again! And who knows, you might not come back.
For those wandering about the series title, the Mile High Club is an exclusive, non-enforced, free (meaning you don't have to pay to join), members only club for those who have had sex in an airplane that's flying at least one mile above the ground--and no, no one has to be present to testify to your act or sign a membership card. A person's--or rather the persons' (for at least two should be involved) word suffices to join this exclusive club. When did you say you were last on an airplane?
I really recommend this series for mature adults (or 18+ immature adults as well). It is a lot of fun. Be aware though that this series contains a lot of sexual scenes (gay, straight, and curved) as well as gratuitous nudity. Be aware too that you might just get the flying bug and end up either going to flight school or applying for a position as a cabin crew. Or you might end up as a sex mechanic (did I mean maniac?), but let's hope that won't be the case.
I think I'll change my career in the world of my mind. The world miles above the earth is quite sexy...and predictable--sort off! And safe as long as it remains in the theatre of my mind.
P.S. I usually don't write this way, so blame this series--it is the cause of the state of mind I'm presently in! If you wanna (meaning want to) join me, watch the series!

Although its publicity touts Three Seasons, a triple winner at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival, as "the only American film made entirely in Vietnam,, there is little that is American about this movie. Its sensibility seems far more Vietnamese than American, from its lyrical Oriental imagery and its concern with the plight of Vietnamese citizens since the war to its reverence for the country's ancient culture. Similarly, Harvey Keitel is listed as the star, but his is really the most minor of the film's major roles.
Three Seasons tells three tangentially linked stories. First is the tale of Kien An (Ngoc Hiep Nguyen), a lovely young woman who works picking lotus blossoms at a sanitarium. She becomes a scribe for its mysterious proprietor, Teacher Dao (Manh Cuong Tran), a leper who hides himself away in shame but whose soul is full of beautiful poetry. Then there is Hai (Don Duong), a gentle "cyclo" (bicycle ricksha) driver who falls in love with Lan (Zoe Bui), an alluring, feisty prostitute he sees coming and going from the big tourist hotels. Last, there is James Hager (Keitel), an ex-Marine who fought in the war and has returned to find the daughter he fathered many years before. There is also a charming plot about Woody (Huu Duoc Nguyen), a little street urchin who sells contraband out of a suitcase. The narrative involving Keitel's character is the least developed in the film, and seems to be almost an afterthought, but in any event, truly magnificent visuals and a delicate lyricism make Three Seasons a haunting, bittersweet film portrait of life in contemporary Vietnam. --Laura Mirsky

Post War Viet Nam: Returning to a time when there was purity and wholeness.......2007-09-13
THREE SEASONS is a lulling an even paced film about the three seasons of time in the life of Viet Nam and those involved in it's struggle:The time when there was purity;the time when purity was ruined;and the time that wholeness returns. This theme is played out in the daily lives of six people who are existing sometime (it is never clearly stated) in reconstructionist Viet Nam.Saigon plays host to Hai , a cyclo driver (a foot cabbie);Lan, a whore for whom Hai has a keen interest:Woody,a young street urchin who hawks his watches and lighters;Kien An,a seller of the floating lotus;the Master Teacher, who is a leper, whom Kien An becomes his scribe;and lastly James Hager,an American ex-soldier looking for his "half-caste" daughter. Each of these characters are broken souls because of the past turmoil in the country. Each has pain and struggles that needs to be dealt with and cleansed so that life can go on.The screenplay shifts it's focus continually from character to character developing the sense of what used to be,what is now,and what can be in this city where Western "progress" invades again.
Make no mistake,THREE SEASONS has a totally Asian sensibility and must be viewed patiently and determinedly through that lens. The temptation will be to grow weary and impatient if you are expecting action. This film VERY quietly builds it's story and it's characters to a truly moving conclusion that will make the climax (subtle as it is) worth the exacting rising action.
THREE SEASONS is a film that may not deliver the goods in the act of viewing it, but will pay off after the credits have faded. This is a very pensive and poignant piece of work.
Simplistic Plots, Beautiful Images.......2007-06-04
This is an artistic movie with more emphasis on theme than plot. The theme of the movie is hope. There are 3 seemingly unrelated plots.
An American war veteran travels to Ho Chi Minh City to look for a daughter he fathered during the war.
Kien An, a young woman, takes a job harvesting lotuses in the ponds of Teacher Dao, a reclusive man who has leprosy. Her singing awakens him from depression, and he asks her to write down poetry he has composed.
The main story, is that about a cyclo driver, Hai, who stalks a prostitute after he had rescued her from a couple of thungs. He falls in love with her, wins a race, buys a night with her, treated her when she is ill and finally gets her back to school.
The plots are very simple, predictable or even simplistic. The beauty lies in the way the scenes are shot.
Poetic, Heartening, and Endearing- Just Sweet!.......2007-05-04
This movie was filmed in Ho Chi Minh City (previously, Saigon), Vietnam many years after the Vietnam conflict and it manages to blend several seemingly separate plot-lines and characters into one beautiful statement of loss and redemption. I can not say enough about this film! OK, poetically beautiful- see it!
The film opens with a young lady ("Kien An") who has found work at a lily flower growing lake which surrounds the house of her recluse employer, and Teacher. She comes to know his troubled life and helps him get back into his poetry writing. She sells her flowers in the city where she meets and sells or gives flowers to others in the story-line: A U.S. Vietnam veteran returning there in hopes of finding his long lost daughter; a cyclo-ped taxi driver ("Hai") who falls in love with a hotel hooker ("Lan" played by Diep Bui who is the beautiful women seen on the movie posters and video covers) as he transports her from trick to trick; and a young street-smart peddler ("Woody") who gets entwined into the story with charm, wit, and perseverance.
Beautifully written and performed by all and far and beyond most all Hollywood offerings.
Great Film, Highly Recommended.......2007-01-07
This movie is terrific. It is several stories of hope, love, redemption and beauty for people leading difficult, often desperate lives. The stories wind together through the interactions of the characters involved in the different subplots. Most of all it is stories of people finding each other and recognizing inner beauty when others may not. It displays the haunting beauty of Vietnam amidst the poverty that many people there live in daily. I was given a copy of this on VHS by a Vietnamese friend years ago. I was impressed by the music (singing of Kien An and the lady lotus pickers) and poetry (written by her employer, Teacher Dao, who is dying of leprosy and old age). The sweet tenacity of the cyclo driver, Hai courting the prostitute, Lan. The search for and tender meeting of the marine (Harvey Kietel) with his daughter Phuong, from a wartime liaison with a bar girl. The struggle for subsistence of little Woody and the little street girl. I was so taken by it that I recently bought a DVD of it. It's a definite keeper. It is in Vietnamese with subtitles except where Harvey Kietel speaks. A very positive, heart-warming movie! You may need to keep a box of tissues handy if you are the emotional type. I get misty-eyed just thinking about it.
