5 out of 5 stars Smegging Briliant!.......2007-07-16

Cloister Himself couldn't have done a better job making me laugh for hours and hours and hours and... well, the series DID run for 8 years after all. This stuff is great! Certainly top 5% of all British comedies of all time!
if you love dry humor, witty sarcasm, and just plain lunacy: This is the series for you. not the biggest budget, not the best special effects (matter of fact, the only thing special about the effects is that half the XF team road the short bus... j/k)
you would have to be some kind of Smeg-head not to enjoy this show.

5 out of 5 stars fun fun fun.......2007-07-13

Red Dwarf Complete Collection (18DVD) This series is witty with original storylines and characters that keep you coming back for more. Each Season includes a DVD full of extras including interviews with the cast and, my favourite, blooper reels for that Season.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Set - Great Deal.......2007-07-05

This set contains every current Red Dwarf episode (not that they will probably make anymore). The set is setup in a very convenient way with all the episodes of each season on one disk and all the special features on the next disc, with the last two seasons having the episodes on two discs. There is a noticeable improvement in the transfer on these two seasons as they used less compression.

But tech specs aside, you don't buy this set for the transfer, you buy it for the phenomenal quality of the writing and acting. One of the funniest shows from the BBC they don't miss a mark, and definitely the best spoof of science fiction out there. A must for Sci Fi and Comedy fans alike. For the Yanks you might have to watch the shows a few times to catch some of the jokes. But brilliant comedy you won't regret the purchase. One last thing, if you were to buy them individually you'd pay almost twice as much as you would with buy this complete set in one shot, worth every penny!

5 out of 5 stars Definitely a "smegging" good time.......2007-06-28

I can't believe the entire collection finally came out on DVD. I can't say enough about it, and I can't get enough of this show.

This is by far the best comedy series I've ever seen, even above Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Rising Damp, and Butterflies. I watched this show every chance I got when they were being re-run on PBS. I missed so many at the time, then I got the set. My wife hates it when I pull these back out and start watching them again, sitting around giggling like an idiot at all the cleverly witty banter and situational comedy these characters get into. It's still as funny today as the first time I saw them. Even the late episodes are great.

Some of my favorite lines and scenes came in the later seasons. Like in Duct Soup, Season 7, Ep.4: Cat and Lister are crawling the ductwork of the ship, trying to repair a reactor leak (I believe), and Cat tells Lister he hears a sort of "swirly, watery, rushing kinda noise". It turns out to be the raging water of the backwash system that flushes the sewer ducts. A few minutes later, Cat says now that he hears a sorta "windy, swirly, drying kinda noise" and a frustrated Lister asks him if he's sure it's not a sorta "smacking cat upside the head kinda noise". Trust me, it's a lot funnier on the show and I can't do it justice; but it's one of my favorite scenes.

Also, this excerpt, Season 3, Ep.1, where no matter what, Cat is worried about his appearance:
LISTER: Fasten your belt.
CAT: Hey, I do NOT need fashion tips from YOU.
LISTER: SAFETY belt! (Points out the window) Look!
CAT: Is that what I think it is?
LISTER: What d'you think it is?
CAT: An orange whirly thing in space!
LISTER: It's a time hole. That's where they are. We're goin' in.
CAT: Are you crazy? You can't go in there!
LISTER: Why not?
CAT: Orange?! With this suit?!

Again, you need to watch the show, it's waaay better. The show is non-stop hilarity and interesting characters. I can't believe they made such a great show on such a low budget. Too bad it had to end. I just hope my DVDs survive the kids...they love it as much as I do.

5 out of 5 stars Red Dwarf.......2007-06-13

This DVD set is definitely "fun, fun, fun!" It's crammed with extras like cast commentary on every episode, deleted scenes, and "smeg-ups." Series 1 & 2 are classic, with cheap props and bad special effects, but, as the cast and writers continually point out, it was definitely ahead of it's time in 1988. And, the writing is always stellar. You can definitely see influences on later sci-fi shows, such as the holographic doctor on Star Trek Voyager. By series 6 it gets in a bit of a rut with the same jokes repeated in every episode, but they switch up the formula (and add a female character!) by series 7. Series 8 ends on a cliff-hanger that will leave you wishing there had been a series 9!

It's brown alert time all over again for Red Dwarf fans with the fifth season of the much-loved U.K. sci-fi/comedy series. Episode-wise, it's business as usual for the crew of the Red Dwarf--that is, if one considers encountering an alien squid that squirts a despair-inducing hallucinogen ("Back to Reality," later voted the best episode of the series by British viewers--and Stephen Hawking!), evil (and not particularly bright) versions of the crew ("Demons and Angels"), a virus that causes insanity ("Quarantine"), and a trip to a moon created entirely from the mind of the insufferable hologram Rimmer ("Terrorform") business as usual. In short, it's six hilarious episodes, highlighted by the typically terrific writing of creators Rob Grant and Doug Naylor (who also direct two episodes). As with the previous deluxe DVD releases, Series V features a wealth of supplemental features, the most intriguing of which is a look at the failed attempt to recreate the show in America (with U.K. cast member Robert Llewellyn and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Terry Farrell as Cat). Also included are cast and fan commentaries, featurettes on the show's "science" and villains, special effects tests, blooper reels, and a sampling of Grant and Naylor's BBC 4 radio sketch "Dave Hollins, Space Cadet," which served as the inspiration for Red Dwarf. Dedicated DVD owners will also be rewarded by Easter eggs lurking throughout the menus.

Series 6 is possibly the most eagerly awaited of the Red Dwarf DVD sets, due to its acclaimed third episode, "Gunmen of the Apocalypse," which earned the program an International Emmy Award in 1994. However, the five other episodes in the series have their own share of absurd laughs, and the two-disc set features enough supplemental features to keep even the most demanding RD fan happy. The crux of series 6 is that the Red Dwarf has been stolen (no thanks to Lister, who can't remember where he left it), and the crew must recover it; their pursuit brings them in contact with brain-consuming aliens ("Psirens," with guest star Jenny Agutter), a polymorph that turns Rimmer and Cat into their alternate identities from Series V ("Emohawk--Polymorph II"), the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse tricked out as gunslingers ("Gunmen of the Apocalypse"), an army of Rimmer clones ("Rimmerworld"), and finally, their own future selves, who turn out to be particularly awful (worse than the present-day ones, that is), and cause a cliffhanger ending that just might spell the end for the Red Dwarf crew.... In short, series 6 more than earns its popular status among Red Dwarf's fanbase, thanks to its sharp writing (sadly, it would be the last series to feature scripts by co-creator Rob Grant) and energetic performances. And the double-disc set matches the quality of the programs with some terrific extras, including commentaries by the RD crew and fans (the latter on "Gunmen of the Apocalypse" only), and featurettes on composer Howard Goodall and series director Andy de Emmony; these are rounded out by the usual collections of "smeg-ups" (bloopers), deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes footage, and another episode of the "Dave Hollins, Space Cadet" radio sketch that inspired the show. And again, the most patient of viewers will find Easter eggs on the menus (happy hunting). --Paul Gaita

Great series... everyone should watch! even the extras dvd is great!!!

4 out of 5 stars One star down.......2007-03-21

Anyone who has followed the show from series one will already have noticed how much it chages, but in the past those changes have been undisputedly for the better, culminating in series 4. Now however, the show takes a much sharper turn away from its roots, and begins to take itself too seriously. Plus, you'l notice something very diffrent about the quality of the picture (not neccecarily better or worse, but very diffrent)

Despte all this, no true dwarfer, or sci-fi but, or britcom fan, should miss this without "sevre punishment!". It remains one of the funniest shows on TV. (or off TV, as it were)

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful continuation of the series.......2007-01-15

I've bought series III. I bought series V and VI and expect to continue buying until I've seen them all. This is typical British style comedy at its best. British TVs, no matter how ridiculous or weird they are, contain wonderful scripts and solid contents. It is very different from many U.S. TVs or films where a lot of emphases were put on pretty settings and big name stars. As a result, US productions are usually expensive, good looking, predictable but little else. Red Dwarf will get you laughing loud and surprised so you really wouldn't mind the minimal backgrounds.

Red dwarf keeps you laughing. Each season brings new adventures.

Loved this show years ago when I first saw it and loved it so much I bought it for my husband for Xmas. Buying the seasons individually costs much more than buying them in this fashion, two series in one package. I recommend it.

Notoriously, and entirely appropriately, the original outline for Doug Naylor and Rob Grant's comedy sci-fi series Red Dwarf was sketched on the back of a beer mat. When it finally appeared on British television in 1988, the show had clearly stayed true to its roots, mixing jokes about excessive curry consumption with affectionate parodies of classic sci-fi. Indeed, one of the show's most endearing and enduring features is its obvious respect for genre conventions, even as it gleefully subverts them. The scenario owes something to Douglas Adams's satirical Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, something to The Odd Couple, and a lot more to the slacker sci-fi of John Carpenter's Dark Star. Behind the crew's constant bickering there lurks an impending sense that life, the universe, and everything are all someone's idea of a terrible joke.

Later seasons broadened the show's horizons until at last its premise was so diluted as to be unrecognizable, but in the six episodes of the first season, the comedy is witty and intimate, focusing on characters and not special effects. Slob Dave Lister (Craig Charles) is the last human alive after a radiation leak wipes out the crew of the vast mining vessel Red Dwarf (episode 1, "The End"). He bums around the spaceship with the perpetually uptight and annoyed hologram of his dead bunkmate, Arnold Rimmer (Chris Barrie, the show's greatest comedy asset), and a creature evolved from a cat (dapper Danny John-Jules). They are guided rather haphazardly by Holly, the worryingly thick main computer (lugubrious Norman Lovett).

The second season showcases the show's sardonic, sarcastic humor to perfection. The cast had gelled, the drab sets were spiced up, a little more money had been assigned to models and special effects, and the crew even went on location once in a while. "Kryten" introduces us to the eponymous house robot (here played by David Ross), although after this first episode he was not to reappear until season 3, when Robert Llewellyn made the role his own. Then in "Better Than Life" the show produced one of its all-time classic episodes, as the boys from the Dwarf take part in a virtual reality game that's ruined by Rimmer's tortured psyche. Other highlights include "Queeg," in which Holly is replaced by a domineering computer personality; the baffling time-travel paradox of "Stasis Leak"; the puzzling conundrum of "Thanks for the Memory"; and the astonishingly feminine "Parallel Universe." --Mark Walker

5 out of 5 stars Great Comedy and excellent Sci-Fi.......2007-06-14

my recent purchase of The Red dwarf was as I expected just wonderful! The show has some of the best English humor with some really great Sci-fi concepts. I recommend this program to anyone who likes British Comedy and enjoys interesting Science fiction.

2 out of 5 stars Too Many Extras........Not enough Episodes.......2007-05-22

I love the show and have enjoyed watching it. However this page does not list how many episodes are on each series, there are only 6 in each. Although I probably should have investigated them individually I was really exited about the prospect of getting 2 full seasons (atleast from an American viewpoint) and when they arrived they were packaged together with the fronts facing out opposite each other, needless to say once I got the package opened and scanned the backs I realized I only had 12 episodes total on two discs, the other two are full of extras. At discovering this I wanted to return them but could not because I had to open the package to find out that there were only 6 episodes to a series. I have since discovered that they sell a copy of Just the Episodes that have Series 1,2,3,and 4, which I would have bought had I seen it before I had purchased this product.

5 out of 5 stars Red Dwarf Seasons 1 & 2 - Wonderful.......2007-03-23

This is in my opinion one of the great classics. If you like British shows, and dry humor, (these tend to go hand in hand in my experience) this is a wonderful show to start watching. With an 80's sci-fi twist this is a great addition to any TV show collection. A must have for British TV fans.

5 out of 5 stars Red Dwarf RULES!.......2007-02-21

This Show is soooo funny! :) It was nice to have the DVD versions finally. The bonus tracks are awesome and full of good info. The second season on the bonus disc has the full version of the "tongue tied" ensamble. There's even some good trivia info!

5 out of 5 stars What Sci-fi Comedy Should Be.......2007-02-07

This has to be one of the funniest science-fiction comedies to come out of the late 80s. As far as originality goes, Red Dwarf has it covered. The plot is brilliant; the episodes follow the life of Lister, the last human alive on the mining ship the Red Dwarf, and his adventures with the hologram of his deceased bunk mate Rimmer, and Cat, an evolved descendant of Lister's domestic cat Frankenstein. Each episode is original and wildly hilarious, and a must see for anyone in need of a good laugh. Even today, the jokes are still amazingly clever and perfect for the sci-fi geek in all of us. Each DVD contains 6 episodes and bonus content, so I'd hugely recommend purchasing one of amazon's "two for" deals. After the first six episodes, you'll quickly be craving more. The bonus content is excellent too, containing bloopers and cast interviews about production of the show. Red Dwarf has to be the best science fiction comedy I've seen in a long time, and you won't regret picking it up.

What's in store for the crew of the Red Dwarf in their final adventures? Well, for one, they've all been re-created--even Arnold Rimmer (unfortunately)--by the Nanobots, but Lister, Kochanski, Cat, and Kryten are almost immediately in hot water for allegedly stealing the Starbug. From there, things get stranger (or back to normal by Red Dwarf standards): it seems that everything the crew is experiencing is an artificial-reality creation programmed by the Red Dwarf's captain, Hollister ("Back in the Red, Part 2"); Rimmer discovers that despite his recent revival, he's doomed to die soon ("Cassandra"), which puts a serious crimp in his plan to finally make officer; the rewired Kryten turns a pet sparrow into a rampaging dinosaur ("Pete, Part 1") and turns a tidy profit by secretly filming women in the shower ("Krytie TV); and finally, the Grim Reaper comes to call in the series finale, "Only the Good Die Young," which reveals the fate of the entire crew. More bizarre than bittersweet, series 8 is classic Red Dwarf lunacy and an inspired sendoff for this unique and clever U.K. cult TV series. As with previous DVD sets, series 8 is loaded with extras, including commentary by the cast on "Cassandra"; "The Tank," which offers interviews with the cast and crew; and featurettes on the show's origins and special model effects designer Bill Pearson. Rounding out the extras are deleted scenes, raw effects footage, a gallery of stills, a frothy "Fight!" music featurette comprised of brawl scenes from the series, a battery of promotional spots filmed for BBC and American PBS stations (as well as the amusing Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace parody that heralded the beginning of series 8), a 1984 "Dave Hollings: Space Cadet" radio sketch, and as always, a collection of "smeg-ups" (bloopers). --Paul Gaita

Description

The nanobots have populated the ship with its original crew. This is especially good news for Rimmer, who is now a lot less dead, but is extremely bad news for everyone else. Locked up on Red Dwarf's prison deck, the crew join the Canaries, a battle hardened convict army and not, as they first thought, the prison choir. Pity it's not with the girl of his dreams. 3 out of 5 stars Not as bad as some have said.......2007-09-09

OK, so this isn't the finest season of Red Dwarf. But I held off buying it for a while based on some of the reviews. Really, it's not as bad as some reviews would have you believe. The writing is not as crisp as in the previous series, and I wasn't entirely thrilled with the "resurrect the crew and throw the gang in prison" plot line.
But it has it's moments, and it's still worth watching if you've seen the rest of the series.

5 out of 5 stars Ended too soon........2007-05-15

The last season/series is nearly the best. If you like British silly sci-fi comedy, you will love this series! The early and the later seasons were the best. Some of the middle seasons had good episodes, but not all of episodes were good. I own all of the series and can't wait for the movie.

If you're a fan then you don't need anyone's itchy varoogers muckin' about in your curry. The Boys from the Dwarf are back and so's the original crew. Say what? Yes, the nannites have run off all-cockers and replicated the entire crew. Talk about trouble! Woohoo!

The third series of Red Dwarf introduced some radical changes--all of them for the better--but the scripts remained as sharp and character-focused as ever, making this a fine candidate for the show's best year. Gone were the dull metallic grey sets and costumes, gone too was Norman Lovett's lugubrious Holly, replaced now by comedienne Hattie Hayridge, who had previously played Hilly in the Series 2 episode "Parallel Universe". New this year were custom-made costumes, more elaborate sets, the zippy pea-green Starbug, bigger special effects and the wholly admirable Robert Llewellyn as Kryten. The benefits of the show's changes are apparent from the outset, with the mind-bending hilarity of "Backwards," in which Kryten and Rimmer establish themselves as a forward-talking double-act on a reverse Earth. After a modest two-person episode that sees Rimmer and Lister "Marooned", comes one of the Dwarf's most beloved episodes, "Polymorph." Here is the ensemble working at its best, as each character unwittingly has their strongest emotion sucked out of them. Lister loses his fear, Cat his vanity, Kryten his reserve, and Rimmer his anger ("Chameleonic Life-Forms. No Thanks"). "Body Swap" sees Lister and Rimmer involved in a bizarre attempt to prevent the ship from self-destructing. "Timeslides" delves deep into Rimmer's psyche as the boys journey haphazardly through history. Finally, "The Last Day" shows how completely Kryten has been adopted as a crewmember, when his replacement Hudzen unexpectedly shows up.

By the end of its fourth year, Red Dwarf had completed its metamorphosis from a modest studio-bound sitcom with a futuristic premise to a full-blown science-fiction series, complete with a relatively lavish (by BBC standards) special-effects budget, more impressive sets, and more location shooting. Despite the heavier emphasis on sci-fi, the character-based comedy remained as sharp as ever. Witness the Cat's reaction to Lister's pus-filled exploding head; Kryten's devastatingly sarcastic defense of Rimmer; or the classic scene that opens the series, Lister teaching Kryten to lie. In "Camille," Robert Llewellyn's real-life wife plays a female mechanoid who transforms into something else entirely, as does the episode, which by the end becomes a delightful skit on Casablanca. "DNA" is heavily sci-fi, with lots of techno-speak about a matter transmogrifier and a RoboCop homage--but in typical Dwarf fashion, turns out to be all about curry. "Justice" sees Rimmer on trial for the murder of the entire crew, while Lister attempts to evade a psychotic cyborg. Holly gets her IQ back in "White Hole," but wastes time debating bread products with the toaster. "Dimension Jump" introduces dashing doppelganger Ace Rimmer--he was to return in later series, with diminishingly funny results. Here his appearance is all the better for its apparent improbability. Finally, "Meltdown" goes on location (to a park in North London) where waxdroids of historical characters (played by a miscellaneous selection of cheesy look-alikes) are at war. Only intermittently successful, this episode is really memorable for Chris Barrie's tour-de-force performance as Rimmer becomes a crazed, Patton-esque general. --Mark Walker

I was so excited to find Red Dwarf on DVD!! The bonus material is awesome and some worth viewing several times. Season three sees the entrance of Kryten as a permenant character and makes for an interesting change. Opening with the ultimate question is one of the best scenes of Red Dwarf. And let's not forget how catchy the "Ohm" song is. Season four takes up another level with our first introduction to Ace Rimmer. Kryten falls in love, we discover the white holes and Talkie the Toast just wants to make toast. I can't wait until I get season 5 & 6!

5 out of 5 stars red dwarf.......2004-09-20

I love this! Ace Rimmer arives from another dimension, Kryten turns in to a human, a dangerous creature breaks in to red dwarf, Lister is forced to eat dog food, and red dwarf is allost sucked in to a white hole. The bonus features are great! Especialy the 'Backwards, Forwards'. This is one of the best DVDs I have EVER seen!

5 out of 5 stars YEA FINALY!.......2004-04-07

I've watche Red Dwarf my whole life (literaly since i was 8). And I've always been stuck with my duped from my aunt's recorded off PBS tapes. The diffrence in picture quality is amazing. I especially like the extra features. You can watch everyting from "smeg ups" to documentarys. each dvd has a diffrent documentry. And, if you're a real Red Dwarf freak, you can watch the episodes with comentarys by the actors. One thing I really like is that these DVDs have the option to view the extra features in an animated menu or a text menu. The first two DVDs only had an animated menu, which was quite frustrating to nagivate.

5 out of 5 stars A Smegging Cool Birthday Present.......2004-03-17

One of my first birthday presents to arrive this was a copy of the third and fourth seasons of Red Dwarf on DVD. Awwww yeah!

I started watching Season Three with actor commentaries. It's hilarious! And of course, I was inspired once again to create a Red Dwarf T-shirt from the "Polymorph" episode featuring two hilarious phrases. Gonna have to order me a copy of that shirt sometime soon.

Can't wait to re-watch the whole season soon. Meantime, I still gotta get the first two seasons, can't wait for seasons five and six, and Give Quiche a Chance!!!!

Here's what you'll find in the seventh season of Red Dwarf: the truth behind the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the return of Ace Rimmer (or a reasonable facsimile), an emotional rollercoaster created from real emotions, a very seductive virus, and numerous mishaps involving dimensional accidents, wormholes, nanobots, and male-female relationships. If that makes perfect sense to you, you're undoubtedly a fan of the cult comedy/science fiction series, but even if you're not, there are plenty of laughs to be had. Of course, not every Red Dwarf fan will be in accordance--Series 7 has been the subject of much controversy since its original airing in 1997-98, due mostly to the departure of co-creator Rob Grant, the departure of Chris Barrie's Arnold Rimmer, and the arrival of new castmate Chloe Annett as Dave Lister's ex-girlfriend, Christine Kochanski (who had been played by another actress, Clare Grogan, in earlier episodes). But no matter which side you happen to pick for this debate, there are still enough amusing and thought-provoking moments in each episode to please even the most demanding fan.

Highlights for the season include the opener, "Tikka to Ride," which turns a trip for curry into a visit to Dallas circa '63; "Blue," which addresses the departure of Rimmer and the uncomfortable relationship between Kochanski, Lister (Craig Charles), and Kryten (Robert Llewellyn), and "Nanarchy," in which the aforementioned microscopic robots create more havoc than actual repair. Supplemental features have always been one of the main attractions to the Red Dwarf DVD sets, and Series 7 doesn't disappoint: included are commentary by the cast (including Norman Lovett, the original Holly) on "Nanarchy"; "Back from the Dead," a 90-minute featurette with new interviews and previously unseen footage; a pair of short films made by fans for a competition; extended editions of three episodes (with no laugh track); 40 minutes of deleted scenes; early effects footage; and lots more. --Paul Gaita

Description

After a temporary bout of deadness, the Dwarfers find themselves solving one of the biggest conspiracy plots of all time, before Ace Rimmer drops in with the challenge of Rimmer's life. Meantime Kryten gets seriously tetchy and Lister has one of the hottest screen kisses ever. Pity it's not with the girl of his dreams. Pity it's not with a girl.

This season/series got better. If you like British silly sci-fi comedy, you will love this series! The early and the later seasons were the best. Some of the middle seasons had good episodes, but not all of episodes were good. I own all of the series and can't wait for the movie.

5 out of 5 stars This is an AWESOME tv SERIES!!.......2007-04-22

if you have been under a rock the past few years you probally haven't seen this series. i don't understand how this could be possible but i'm sure there are the SELECT few who haven't.
put simply it's a SCI-Fi/COMEDY series (BRITISH) about a guy, his cat, the person he hates most in the whole universe, his android. a "HUGE" MINING ship 5 miles long and set of cercumstances that forces him to end up being "the last human being alive in the universe!".
just in that respect your saying we'll if everyone is dead, how can they possibly come up with scripts for episodes. as to date 8 SEASONS have been made. hopefully they will continue with more series.
works are being made for a theatrical release, but i'm not holding my breathe. would be nice though. the circumstances that the crew of the mining ship "RED DWARF" get into are hilarious.
if just fresh enough with new ideas, old ones. poking fun at just about anyone and everything. if you want something a little different this is the SERIES for you!! enjoy

4 out of 5 stars follows in the grand tradition.......2007-03-21

As title, this series follows in the grand tradtion of Red Dwarf hijinks, and..also in the series 5 and 6 tradition of breaking with the past somewhat. The show still takes itself more seriously than it should this season, just like season 5 and 6 (more six than five)and has darker moments more frequently. And has anyone else noticed the subtle transtion of the cat? How hes become, well, not "cat-like" so much anymore? See Series 1 for the Cat at his peak.

Still this series delivers some excelent material, including what I count as likley my favorite line from almost any enpisode (won't give it away though)

So for fans of RD, or sc-fi silliness, or britcoms in general, this is for you smeghead!

5 out of 5 stars If this is 'jumping the shark', I'm a goit!.......2007-02-03

In the fall of 1993, Out of Time, the final episode of Red Dwarf 6 was broadcast. When the episode ended on an unplanned cliffhanger and 'to be cotinued' subtitle it became clear that there would have to be a series 7. But it wasn't as easy to do as expected- co-creator/writer Rob Grant left after a falling out with Doug Naylor and actor Chris Barry ( Rimmer) was unwilling to appear in future episodes. Due to all these compilcations it was more than three full years before a new episode of Red Dwarf was seen on television. Did it and its seven fellows measure up? Read on. ... When Red Dwarf 7 first hit airwaves it was a success in terms of audience reaction and percentage of people tuning in to watch. It is curious then that reviews posted here and elswhere have derided the series as unfunny, stale, and out of keeping with the formula of pervious series. Some have even claimed that it 'jumped the shark', a phrase the surley instills dread in anyone involved in television. To me RD-7 did none of these things- the storylines and overall setup for the series was creative were clever and witty, the acting the usual great, and apart from a few gags you might get simply because you aren't British, quite funny if in a slightly different way to the others. I would also like to point that Robert Llewellyn's delivery during Kryten's jokes is absoloutley pricless and at certain points he really makes the character's emotions palpable. Anyhow, the series was great with Tikka, Clipper, Ouroboros, Blue, Beyond a Joke and Duct Soup delivering especially well. Now I'd just like to point out a few things to patch up some misconceptions and critisisms about the series: 1. The laugh-track was not faked- audiences were shown the prerecorded episodes complete with visual effects, music etc. and their genuine laughing was recorded and broadcast on television and put on these DVDs ( the exceptions would be the bonus 'extended versions' of three episodes where the laughter has been removed. 2. In cas anyone is still wondering, Rimmer isn't completly absent. He appears in the first two epsiodes ( leaving in the second) and reappears in flashbacks, dreams and more in episodes 3 and 5. 3. Continuity. It is true that some things are out of continuity, the timedrive being among them. However, we have been given hints of a relationship between Lister and Kochanski before series seven- see the Grant/Naylor novel 'Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers' for more info there. Finally, I'd like to say that I don't think the show was anymore sci-fi/oriented in 7 that it had been since around 4- it's just that with Rimmer gone and the crew on Starbug, etc. the nature of the sci-fi is a little different. I mean be honest, wasn't sci-fi a major part of the series from at least 5 on if not earlier; if the end of series six isn't sci-fi, what is? Anyway, to finish, I firmly beleive that Red Dwarf did not get any worse for the break and the losses and that it was still funny- just different in a number of ways. Now, I think I'll go eat some gizpacho ( sp?) soup and watch some episodes of a show that 'jumped the shark'... The end- the smeg it is!

5 out of 5 stars FUN STUFF -- LET YOURSELF GO AND ENJOY.......2007-01-11

Again, my Mother-in-law hooked us. This was the first BBC series she purchased for us, the Vicar of Dibley was the next. This handful of characters are making their way hap-hazardly through space running into one goofy adventure after another. The graphics are wonderfully cheesy -- you simply have to let yourself go. Star Wars this is NOT. The main character is an undignified "chap" who finds himself alone on a space ship after being asleep for 3 million years. He is at first only accompanied by a pet cat (who later evolutionizes into a human "cat"), the ship's computer (female), and a hologram who you will come to love to hate. He eventually picks up a "robot" who adds another dimension to the goofiness. Give this a try. It is great brain candy. Americans loving BBC.

He bums around the spaceship with the perpetually uptight and annoyed hologram of his dead bunkmate, Arnold Rimmer (Chris Barrie, the show's greatest comedy asset), and a creature evolved from a cat (dapper Danny John Jules). They are guided rather haphazardly by Holly, the worryingly thick main computer (lugubrious Norman Lovett). --Mark Walker

5 out of 5 stars Doesn't Time Fly When you're Trapped in Deep Space, Three Million years into the Future?.......2007-07-16

Alright; maybe series 1 and 2 of Red Dwarf weren't the peak of the show, as far as writing, and all-around polish, but I still find it hard to believe that a previous reviewer found NOTHING funny about this. Not Norman Lovett's deadpan delivery as Holly, not the petty behavior of Rimmmer? Not the carefree, slob, but good-hearted man that is Lister? Not even the Cat????? I can't believe that the "Everybody's dead Dave" scene, or the Cat's shiny thing (actually a yo-yo he apparently found, and uses like a cat toy) didn't force so much as a chuckle from this reviewer. Some people obviously lack taste, and class when it comes to humor. Poor, laugh-deprived human beings; oh, well...
As for my own opinion, I think it's smeggin' hilarious! The writing is great, the actors are wonderful (so much character in the Cat, and Holly), and things are always fresh. Even the sets, and props (admittedly low-budget) have a certain appeal to them. Just great jokes, highly original and well-matched characters ( well-matched for humor of course, for socializing in the real world, I'm not so sure), and all around fun humor, and even the odd stray philosophical musing, which would become a staple of the show in later seasons.
As for the DVD? Well this is why I'm giving this, not the funniest of the shows series a boost to five stars. Outtakes, GREAT deleted scenes (for a TV show!), a documentary, commentaries on episodes, stills galleries, some nice vintage ads, even fun music cues, and more. The DVD is great, the show is great. Huh, let's see: funny, great show, great DVD (for a TV show); what's not like? 5/5, very funny [...]

Just one word - horrible. I just do not understand what is funny about this show and how it is popular. It's a mess. Poorly staged, bad lighting, annoying characters, insipid and I could not wait for it to be over. I bought Series I for my husband and me based on everyone's comments here and were we dissapointed. Do you want well done, well scripted and entertaining sci-fi? FIREFLY is the best I've seen. We love that show.

5 out of 5 stars to hell with the plot, just watch!.......2007-03-21

Was introduced to this show by a dear friend on my first visit home in 2 years, and it was the crowning touch to that vacation! (one of them)

Red Dwarf is one of those shows where people either realy HAte it or REALLY LOVE it. Most people, REALY LOVE it. The first series is a bit barren visually (they spent almost the whole series 1 budget on the model shots of the ship's exterior) but the lines are hysterical. I'm not going to outline the plot, see someone else's reveiw if you want to know that! I'm just going to reccomend watching it. And loving it, of course.

I especially reccommend it for lovers of sci-fi comedies (yeah, right, how many of THOSE are there) british comedy, or just plain total nonsense.
But ell, even if you do't fall into those categories, WATCH!

By the end of this fourth year, Red Dwarf had completed its metamorphosis from a modest studio-bound sitcom with a futuristic premise to a full-blown science-fiction series, complete with a relatively lavish (by BBC standards) special-effects budget, more impressive sets, and more location shooting.

4 out of 5 stars Four 4 IV.......2006-10-05

Series 4 of Red Dwarf, though just as colourful and watchable, isn't one of my favourite series. The dialogue isn't as punchy, the acting's a little hammier at times, plus there's hardly as much character development as there was in the first three series. The comic and dramatic timing seems to be rushed in a few places too. It doesn't matter too much, I can watch these episodes again and again, it's just not the series I'll usually reach for if I'd like to watch some Red Dwarf.

In this series of the sci-fi comedy show, space slob Lister, stiff and selfish hologram Rimmer, vainglorious Cat and the neurotic Kryten the mechanoid continue to roam the galaxy, stopping at something interesting in each and every story.

Here's a rundown of the six episodes of the series:

"Camille" sees Kryten discovering a marooned spaceship and a female mechanoid, the same type as himself, named Camille. He quickly falls in love, and as Camille is taken on board Red Dwarf, so do the rest of the crew. A human, a hologram and a cat falling in love with a female mechanoid? What on Earth do THEY see in her?

Another spacecraft floats their way in "DNA". This one is abandoned, and tangled up in strange grows. A three headed skeleton is discovered, a skeleton that was once human. Something has gone wrong here, and thanks to the Cat, something else will go wrong too, something to do with the genetic structure of the crew...

"Justice" is probably one of my favorites in this series. We see Lister sick with space mumps, we see Rimmer put on trial for accidentally killing the original Red Dwarf crew 3 million years ago, and we get to see some fancy spaceboots that walk by themselves. There's all that, and a fair bit more, set around a space-prison that does to the criminal whatever crime they choose to commit there.

A "White Hole", according to the fourth episode, is the opposite of a black hole. It spits out time and space. The Red Dwarf passes one in this story, and leads to adventure with talking toasters, "interplanetary" pool, silly distortions in time and narrative and a smart Holly the computer!

"Dimension Jump" introduces a character who'd go on to be quite popular among some fans, Ace Rimmer, an alternate dimension version of the Red Dwarf's Rimmer. Unlike the Rimmer we know, Ace is a friendly, heroic, hansome fellow, full of talent and wit. What a guy, that's all I can say!

"Meltdown", according to the commentary and documentary on the DVD, isn't very popular with fans, though all the cast and production team like it. I like it too, actually, another of my favorites in the series. It's set on a planet of "wax droids", robots who look like famous figures in history. 3 million years of neglect has left their programming decayed, and the "villain" droids have waged war on the "heroes". It is up to Rimmer to save the "heroes", or so he thinks, and becomes their general. There are some very silly moments in this. Lots of things and people getting blown up, and something of a message at the end.

The special features on the Red Dwarf DVDs get better and better, I reckon. Series 4, along with being really well put together, comes with a whole stack of goodies. There are the commentaries, which are always fun to put on, a making of documentary, the deleted scenes, the outtakes (smeg ups), a couple of original television trailers from the 1990s, model shots and a photo gallery. There's also a couple of talking book chapters (read by Chris Barrie, who plays Rimmer), and the background music from the show which you can play on cue just by selecting the track with your remote (including the theme song, the theme song played on Hammond organ, and the theme song sung by an Elvis impersonator). There's also two "clip show" featurettes, one featuring clips to do with love, and the other full of clips from Ace Rimmer adventures, that particular featurette "hosted" by Holly. There's a couple of easter eggs too, of which I've found one so far (watch out for the scutter holding the videotape in a hallway and press ENTER on your remote as you see him). I think the biggest treat, though, is an episode of the British cooking series "Can't Cook, Won't Cook" called "Can't Smeg Won't Smeg". As the title suggests, it has a Red Dwarf theme. It features the main cast in character (from Series 7 or 8, I think) and is a pretty silly affair. They divide into two teams and try to cook the best dish, but there's a lot of cheating and nonsense that goes on in between, which infuriates the host. Fun stuff, as good as an episode, I think.

A reasonable addition to the series, and though it's not my favorite, has quite a few laughs and will sit very nicely in most any DVD collection. Recommended for sci-fi fans, lovers of comedy and all things British.

5 out of 5 stars Essential for Fans.......2006-02-25

I imagine if you are browsing for this product, you already have a pretty good idea what Red Dwarf is all about, and probably have already seen the episodes. What I love is the two-hour documentary about the process that went into creating the season (each of the DVDs have this content) ... what was going on at the BBC, what the producers, director and writers struggled with in terms of politics, budget and overall direction of the series. Also, since I'm in the US and don't watch any other BBC shows, its interesting to learn about some of the guest actors and how they were adored by the cast prior to their appearance on the show. As a true fan this is the behind the scenes content that I crave. Sigh. How I wish they were still making new Red Dwarf episodes!

4 out of 5 stars RED DWARF - WAY COOL, OF COURSE.......2005-10-16

One of the tighter seasons - cast really revelling in their individual roles, and possibly the second funniest (after Season 5).

The second series of Red Dwarf was, as Danny John-Jules says in the accompanying DVD commentary, "the one where it really went good." First broadcast in the autumn of 1988, these six episodes showcase Rob Grant and Doug Naylor's sardonic, sarcastic humor to perfection. The cast had gelled and the occasionally erratic tone of the first series--which was made a little too much in the shadow of Dark Star and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy--is replaced by a confident assurance that the show's mix of sci-fi in-jokes and gags about bodily functions really does work. There's more color this year, too, as the drab sets are spiced up, a little more money has been assigned to models and special effects, and the crew even goes on location once in a while.

"Kryten" introduces us to the eponymous house robot (here played by David Ross), although after this first episode he was not to reappear until series 3, when Robert Llewellyn made the role his own.

5 out of 5 stars Still great........2007-05-15

The last season/series is nearly the best. If you like British silly sci-fi comedy, you will love this series! The early and the later seasons were the best. Some of the middle seasons had good episodes, but not all of episodes were good. I own all of the series and can't wait for the movie.

5 out of 5 stars The smeg-race continues.......2007-03-21

Red Dawrf's second season, basically a continuation of the first series, and every once as side-splitting as before. perhaps more so, in some cases. This series is also the first appearence of Kryten, the robot, who shows up in the first episode, but is not seen again until series thre, when they decided he would make a good continuing charachter (he ended up being many people's favorite.)

Highly reccommended! (but only if you've seen series one to familiarize yourself with it.)

5 out of 5 stars Smeggin' Great.......2006-07-31

Brilliant! If you love Series One then Series Two will not disappoint you. All of the extra's are worth buying this DVD. See how the guys react at a convention when someone asks what SMEG means. And getting the full version of 'Tongue Tied' is fantastic. Although yellow spandex isn't Rimmer's best color choice.

5 out of 5 stars "It's a Magic Door!".......2006-07-28

Space slob Dave Lister is back, the uptight Arnold Rimmer is back, the cool classy Cat is back, and so is Holly the computer. In Red Dwarf series 2, we get more colors on board the ol' mining ship, more locations, more guest faces, more quotable banter and just as many laughs as the first series, if not... more! 4 of the 6 episodes are up there with my absolute favorites, and the other two are pretty good too. Personally, I'd start with series 1 and work my way along if I was a newcomer (that's how I did it, actually), but series 2 would still be a great introduction to this sci-fi/comedy series.

In "Kryten", the crew of the Red Dwarf find a marooned spacecraft with two lovely ladies aboard. Unfortunately, the ladies are dead, but their mechanoid servant Kryten still lives, so they take him on board the ship. He's very polite and very subservient, Lister thinks he's a little too subservient. Can he convince the robo-man to rebel against Rimmer?

"Better Than Life" is the name of the second episode, and of a virtual reality video game that truly is better than life. In it, you can see, feel, touch and taste everything your heart has ever desired. The Red Dwarf crew find a copy in a very late delivery of mail, and decide to have a go. They end up having a great time, but will Rimmer's self loathing end up ruining it for everyone?

"Thanks for the Memory" sees the crew celebrating the anniversary of Rimmer's death. Rimmer gets himself drunk on hologram alcohol and admits to Lister that he never really had someone to love. They all go to bed, but end up waking a few days later. Lister and the Cat have broken legs, a jigsaw puzzle has been completed, pages have been ripped out their diaries and Red Dwarf's black box is missing. Rimmer suspects aliens, though the others doubt it. Can the crew discover what happened in those lost days?

"Statis Leak" sees the crew finding a leak in statis. That is, they found a hole in the space-time continuum. That is, they found a magic door into the past. Rimmer wants to bring his living past self into the present, Lister wants to find his would-be girlfriend Kochanski and tell her how he feels, the Cat just wants to find a girl. Will any of them succeed? Keep a look out in this episode for former Fast Show member Mark Williams (better known for playing Mr Weasley in the Harry Potter films). He plays Lister's friend Olaf Petersen in this episode, and Lister gets to give him a big kiss.

Holly the computer has made one mistake too many in the "Queeg" episode. Not only are the crew sick of it, but it seems the ship is too. Because of Holly's incompetence, the backup computer Queeg is activated and takes over Red Dwarf. Queeg is strict and unforgiving, and the crew realise how nice Holly was to them, despite his flaws. Can they all get Holly back in charge?

"Parallel Universe" is about just that, a parallel universe. In this alternate reality, the Red Dwarf crew are all women instead of men (except for the Cat, he's still male, but in this reality he's a humanoid Dog). The Red Dwarf crew from the regular universe travel to this alternate reality, and Lister ends up getting a little too close to his feminine self. Sort of a cliffhanger ending here...

There are many special features here, as there are on all the Red Dwarf DVDs. There are audio commentaries on all the episodes by Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Norman Lovett and Danny John-Jules. There's a documentary of sorts called "Red Dwarf from A-Z" which has little themed segments for each letter of the alphabet (A for Arnold Rimmer, S for Smeghead, etc). In this documentary there are clips from the other series, as well as interviews from fantasy author Terry Pratchett, Star Trek's Patrick Stewart, the one and only Stephen Hawking and even a couple of aggressive Daleks from Doctor Who! There's a lengthy interview with writer Doug Naylor about series 2. There's a reel of deleted scenes, though most of them are alternate and extended scenes rather than truly deleted ones. Notable deleted scenes on the reel include Cat caterwauling through some feline karaoke, the full "Androids" TV soap theme song, and a scene where Rimmer discusses the Space Masons. Other special features include an original 1980s TV spot, the full "Tongue Tied" music video from "Parallel Universe", snippets from the audio book read by Chris Barrie (he does all the voices too! What a guy!), a photo gallery, music tracks, outtakes (smeg ups), a montage of all the characters disguises and alternate personalities, special effects footage and even some hidden bits and pieces. With each series you get more and more special features, so look out! They menus have all got a great theme and look to each of them, I must say too.

Recommended for lovers of comedy, sci-fi and all things British.

5 out of 5 stars Red Dwarf Gets Funnier!.......2006-06-13

During season 2 the show matures and becomes more and more related to hard science and less of poking fun at sci-fi soap operas like it does in the first season. Now the themes are wrapped up in the science of deep space and many episodes are similar to the classic "Future Echos" in season one, where tampering with science, space-time and nature has funny and unexpected outcomes as experienced in the "Parallel Universe" episode, one the the better episodes of this season.

Two episodes I thought lacked alittle were "Kryten" and "Queeg". These are least favorite of the entire 8 seasons of Red Dwarf.
Both are still funny, but I felt that they didn't add much to the over all plot and were not filled with the smart back
and forth dialogue that has become the staple of the early seasons of Red Dwarf. Kryten is humorously introduced and then disappears from what should have been a season that would have done better if it involved more of him and his origins. Queeg was my all time least favorite because it should have been more about exploring what makes Holly act like Holly-even poking fun at AI gone awry a.k.a the Queeg interface, but most of the episode was wasted with not-as-funny dialogue and banter between Lister and Rimmer.

Season Two triumphs because it moved Red Dwarf from being a funny show that made us laugh thru simple witty banter and dialogue to a comedy that expands into more physical humor and situation-based comedy. The witty banter is still there, but the situations and plot become less serious and more outrageous.

--Mark Walker

"It's backwards, sir!"

Things get a little different in Red Dwarf, Series 3. There are new cast members, new sets, new planets to be explored, new concepts and new gags, though its all just as quotable as before. The special features on this DVD are just as nice, too. This is probably one of my favorite series of this British sci-fi/comedy show, just because of all the variety, locations and ideas.

As with the last two series, there are six episodes:

"Backwards" explains the changes to the show, by way of a Star Wars-like scrolling text in space whizzing by very, very fast. We see the new version of Kryten (played by Robert Llewelyn) and the new Holly (played by Hattie Hayridge). Out on a driving lesson in space, Rimmer and Kryten are whisked away to an Earth where everything runs backwards. People there eat backwards, drink backwards, speak and write backwards. How will they survive? There's great special effects here, and on the special features disc you can watch the whole thing backwards, meaning you can hear what everyone in the backwards world were actually saying. Some of what you hear in that feature might not be what you expect...

"Marooned" shows Lister and Rimmer getting caught out in a snowstorm on a remote planet. This episode is mainly dialogue, and there's a lot of character development and anecdotes.

"Polymorph" sees a genetically engineered mutant find its way on board ship. It can change into anything, from a beach ball, to underwear, to a kebab, and it is hungry. Hungry for emotions, and the crew are full of them. After feasting on their feelings, the Polymorph will leave the crew very different people...

"Bodyswap" has Lister and Rimmer changing bodies, with a little help from a "brain aenima" and a casette tape. The idea is for Rimmer to get Lister fit, but since he hasn't been alive in so long, Rimmer uses Lister's body to pig out. Lister is disgusted, and wants his body back, but Rimmer won't return it as easy as he took it...

"Timeslides" is a curious episode, and features some mutated photo chemicals that turn whatever photo they develop into a window back in time. If the Red Dwarf crew have a picture of it, they can go to it. Not only that, but they can interfere and change time too! What does this all have to do with bubble wrap painted red? You'll have to find out.

"The Last Day" sees a letter delivered to Red Dwarf saying that Kryten, outdated android that he is, needs replacing, and that a new model mechanoid is on the way. He isn't too upset, as he understands this is the way things are, but Lister feels sorry for him, and decides to throw the poor guy a party. Nice little episode to end with.

Special features include a commentary, which is a fairly revealing look at the British television industry in the late 1980s, as is the "All Change" documentary on the second disc. There's a montage of food related clips, a series of outtakes and deleted scenes (one in which you get to see Kryten without his suit on). There's a video-diary of Hattie Hayridge at a Red Dwarf convention, the music used in the show, which you can play whenever you like, an original trailer or two, and chapters from the talking books. There's a couple more things, including some Easter eggs, but I'm never too good at finding those. Good thing we have the Internet.

A great continuation to the series, both the episodes to the show, and the DVD to the collection. Recommended for lovers of sci-fi, comedy fans, and collectors of all things British.

5 out of 5 stars Did we really need series 3? YES we did!.......2006-07-13

Ahh series 3. This is Red Dwarf. For all of you that don't know this is a Brit-com about the last surviving human, Dave Lister, his bunkmate a holograhm Arnold J. Rimmer, a senile computer known as Holly, and a creature that evolved from Lister's cat over three million years known as Cat, of course! It takes place on a city sized mining ship known as Red Dwarf, hence the name. This is the 3rd series of this 8 series show. It is 6 full episodes spanning 3+ hours. If you've seen earlier series than your in for a change. Holly gets a hologramatic face lift and becomes a chick. An android Kryten joins the crew. If you have seen previous shows, you'll remember an episode named Kryten. Kryten is a bit diffrent and is played by Robert Lewellyn. This series also takes the viewers off ship a bit more. With jaunts to 20th century Earth and treks to creepy abandoned space ships, the viewer is rewarded for sticking it out. If you've been watching previous episodes you'll know what I mean, the gray drab sets and cream colored uniforms. These are replaced by a "new-look" set and wardrobe. It seems that Grant Naylor produtions was able to squeeze a few more pounds(dollars) out of the BBC for the third series. Good special effects, great acting, great writing equals a great series of Red Dwarf.

5 out of 5 stars Red Dwarf 3 becomes daring and takes new risk that reward!.......2006-06-25

A previous reviewer noted that in season 3 Red Dwarf (RD) becomes more about showing and not telling humor. And that showing is done thru parodoxical references and analogies to popular science fiction of mid the 1990's. I agree, but it think this upgrade or "re-boot" as he said works in favor of the show. Had the show not been re-vamped we would've been complaining about tired settings and you could only have so much actionless-Blackadder-like witty dialogue on a sci-fi parody show before you go nuts.

In doing this "re-boot", RD3 shifts away from the BlackAdder style dialogue humor (where characters mulled around in small stage/space and traded witty sentences) to physical humor like the Polymorph episode, one of the funniest RD episodes ever.

Also the setting is upgraded from the prison gray dungeon of the engineer quarters where Lister and Rimmer previously shared to a glowing soft white (much more modern science-fiction like) setting (which I assumed had to with the eventual decontamination of the upper and more posh science officers' decks and Lister finally being able safely to move in, in RD3 you also see more parts of the ship we never seen before which I also figured had to do with the decontamination progress that was mention once by Holly in season 1, episode 1).
This change of scene helps the plots which becomes more science based, it also gives more space for the physical humor to take place.
The addition of Kryten (finally) adds so much to the show, he is the central voice and vehicle for what the show wants to express whenever it parodies and ridicules popular science fiction. Kryten also adds to the physical humor that is now a main part of what makes us now laugh at RD.

During RD3 we also see some more mortality to the situations. Lister almost dies in every episode, Holly is remarked as being senile after 3 million years, the rest ship is obviously getting old. And getting back home is no longer the main goal of any of these episodes.
Its as if the crew has made home in space and lost all hope for returning to earth. This was a subtle digression in RD3. The show abrubtly shifts from this as a goal and now focuses on the little details that keeps our crew busy with dimensions and aliens and keeps us laughing.

A flaw with me was the over abundance of "curry/vindaloo" related jokes. Also Cat's outrageous unpredictable personality that was a very funny part of the show is tamed. Also for some reason Cat's wit and intellegence is somehow absent. During the earlier seasons Cat was ignorant (or rather innocent and oblivious-like a young child), but still cunning enough to do his own thing. Now in RD3 Cat's usual witty dialogue and carefree personality is trimmed down to compliment the physical humor. I wanted more Cat in RD3. :-(

BOTTOM LINE: Another vital DVD for any collector or anyone into sci-fi that wants superior entertainment to anything else on TV today.

5 out of 5 stars 'Give quiche a chance'.......2006-02-22

Season three of Red Dwarf marked a major change in direction for the show introducing us to Kryten played by Robert Llewellyn and a new Holly played by Hattie Hayridge. Series three is one of my personal favourites, every episode is hilarious, in particular 'Marooned' which finds Lister and Rimmer stranded on Starbug and 'Polymorph' which plays out like a comedy version of aliens. There really is nothing bad i can say about this wonderful series (appart from Seasons 7 & 8 of course) and the DVD's are excelent. The extras on offer here include an Original Documentary 'All Change' which features cast and crew interviews. There are also Deleted Scenes, Raw FX Footage, Trailers and of course the Smeg-Ups. Overall this is another excelent Red Dwarf 2 disc set. Buy it now and if you don't then your a Smeg-Head.
