Customer Reviews:
A good Spanish comedy about a struggling actor.......2004-04-27
Javier Bardem plays Victor Ventura, a young man who moves to Madrid to make it as an actor. While waiting for his big break, he struggles to make ends meet as a pizza delivery man. Forced to find a way to make more money, he becomes a phone sex operator. His first client, a man who calls himself "Bill." Some time later, he is requested by a woman named "Amand" and, during their phone conversation, he immediately falls for her and breaks the cardinal rule of the group: meeting one of the callers. After a fantastic night together, she confesses her true reason for calling him and enlists his help to get evidence so she can divorce her husband, "Bill." And, he's just about to get his big break in an American film. But things are not quite what they seem, and Victor soon finds himself involved in a murderous plot as well as a love triangle.
This is a charming and funny comedy gem from Spainsh director Manual Gómez Pereira. Javier Bardem does a fine job as Victor and really carried the film. I had problems with his character immediately falling for Amanda (played superbly by Aitana Sanchez-Gijon). No build up to the relationship or any understanding why he falls for her. Alastair Mackenzie does a fine job as the American movie director Oswaldo, though much of the English diaolgue (from other characters) is obviously dubbed and sounds very stiff and unnatural.
Overll, it's a fun movie to watch, and I really enjoyed Javier Bardem's performance.
"There are a lot of repressed men--all with phones.".......2003-11-20
In the Spanish comedy, "Mouth to Mouth", Victor Ventura has dreamed of becoming an actor since boyhood. As a pizza delivery driver in Madrid, he waits for his big break, but after a run of bad luck, he turns to 'Hot Line' --a telephone--I'll euphemistically call it--entertainment operation run by a mother and son team. After telling himself that "rich guys get turned on by labourers", Victor uses Robert De Niro for inspiration and soon becomes a natural in the world of adult telephone entertainment.
Victor (known as Salvador at the Hot Line) picks up a regular male customer known as Bill. Victor also breaks the rules and becomes rather intimately involved with another caller who calls herself Amanda. Suddenly Victor finds himself up to his neck in intrigue--there's a femme fatale, a murder plot, and a multi-million dollar film.
Javier Bardem stars as Victor, and this role was created before Bardem became a recognizable name in Hollywood. Actually, I prefer "Mouth to Mouth" to any other film Bardem has made. He's got great comedic talent, and his facial features naturally lend themselves to being cast as the innocent, guileless fall guy. Several times during "Mouth to Mouth", Victor auditions for roles and comes off very credibly as the nervous wannabe performing an atrocious Broadway number, the foul-mouthed tough guy, and the great Latin Lover. He switches between characters and makes it look easy. When Victor takes his first phone call at the Hot Line he calls on all his acting talent to help him 'save' the call, and the scene is really well done. The culture of the Hot Line office is particularly amusing, and some of the calls are hilarious.
"Mouth to Mouth" almost has the feel of an Almodovar film--but this is mainly due to pacing and the character of Victor's agent, the semi-hysterical and babbling Angela. However, "Mouth to Mouth" is essentially a comedy and verves firmly away from the darker philosophical issues that Almodovar often wrestles with. "Mouth to Mouth" is a great foreign comedy, and I think most people could easily relate to its universal humour-displacedhuman.
Javier Bardem as "Victor" gets into some phone sex........2003-05-18
Javier Bardem plays "Victor" who has been trying very hard to find work to be an actor. With his agent he has been trying for fifteen months. While delivering pizza to a company, he realizes there is a room full of phone sex operators. Since acting auditions are not getting him anywhere right now. He decides to quit and leave town. His agent talks him out of it with a big movie company coming to town in a few weeks. In the meantime, he begins work as a phone sex operator. His first client is a man. The hot talk is a success. Now he tries his business with women clients and in person as well. This film is spoken in English and Spanish. Use of yellow subtitles in English is used. Rated R.
Delightful, Funny, & Touching Comedy w/typical Spanish humor.......2000-06-08
This film touches on all the universally modern issues: love, sex, jealousy, money (the lack of it), homosexuality, friendship, and human need for one another.
The plot is to die for. A young, struggling actor, is out job and out of luck, but he needs to go on...So, he begins an adventure that is likely to end with a big mess.
At times, this film feels like a one man show or a stand-up act; nevertheless, absolutely all characters are well-developed and rich: the shady sex-line owner in need of his over-bearing mother's approval, the dancing girl in need of money, the plastic surgeon in need of love, the Hollywood lady producer in need of success, etc. As it is common in Spanish cinema, colors are very important in this film: red and black are the main ones. They symbolize passion, jealousy, crazyness, and sarcasm.
When you start watching this film, you can sit back and enjoy yourselves. By the end, you are likely to re-evaluate your opinions about issues raised. You're also likely to have a blast, in the process.
A Sexy and Hysterical Farce!.......2000-02-05
I totally love this movie! The cast, work together so beautifully. It is about a struggling young actor named Victor who, because of his lack of acting jobs and the need to eat, takes a temporary position as a "Phone Sex" operator! As luck would have it, his first call, being supervised by his new boss, is from a Man! Victor has to summon up all his acting talents, not to mention his nerve, to sweet talk a caller without the caller hanging up. It is just too funny! Javier Bardem is adorable as the young actor and Josep Maria Flotats is the vulnerable and very funny "Bill", the homosexual caller. This movie has many well-executed characters including, the pervy phone sex manager, a beautiful caller with a secret who, together with Bill, begin to complicate Victor's life by involving him in a situation where someone is out to murder Bill! It's one of the best Spanish comedies I have seen so far - Glad I bought it!

Product Description
A disillusioned young girl looking to carve her own path in life and live on her own terms hits the road with a volatile collection of radical revolutionaries in director Alison Murray's uncompromising coming-of-age road film. Sherry (Ellen Page) is a teenage contradiction of sorts; she wants to be accepted but she doesn't want to sacrifice her fierce individualism. When Sherry meets up with SPARKS (Street People Armed with Radical Knowledge) and decides to join the curious group of counter-culture activists in their trek across Europe, it appears as if the idealistic young traveler has finally found a family who will accept her for who she really is. When the SPARKS group arrives in an abandoned Portuguese vineyard to set up their own private Shangri-la, though, their ultimate goal grows increasingly ominous as the heated rhetoric of group leader Harry begins to take a dangerous slant. When a pair of deaths prompt the more weak-minded members of the group to pledge unwavering support, skeptical Sherry and questioning fellow SPARKS member Mad Ax begin to see the group for what it really is a cleverly disguised recruitment tool designed specifically to promote dangerous leader Harry's warped ideology.
Customer Reviews:
Wow... just wow........2007-02-27
I bought this movie because I love Ellen Page. I wasn't disappointed, but I wasn't happy. I did laugh through some of the movie, but it isn't a comedy. I just kept watching one scene over and over, and it doesn't even have Ellen in it. This movie didn't really demonstrate to me how well she can act. If anything it made me feel I should stop watching her films.
If you like abstract films you might like this, I'm not really sure. I was lucky this film had that scene or I'd be very angry that I wasted over 30 bucks. I was on the floor laughing; it was so randomly placed in this film. You may have to watch the whole movie to understand why it was so funny.
It's when they decide to leave; I don't want to give it away.

Product Description
Containing music from Radiohead's 'Hail to the Thief' as well as tracks unreleased before, set to a collection of perhaps the strangest videos you've seen on your teevee, and introduced by the one-and-only, the incorrigible, the indefatigable, the certifiable Chieftan Mews... It is, without doubt, The Most Gigantic Lying Mouth of all Time. Or, in the words of THOM YORKE: Twenty-four short films with music by Radiohead This was originally meant to be 4 episodes shown on our very own television channel. It was just before Hail to the Thief was released. Everyone was working themselves into a froth. They told us they could get us our own station. Somewhere here, somewhere there, you know. It was very exciting. We were going to take over the airwaves. So we set about puxing together some television. We got lots of tapes from a request we put on our website. Lots. Lots and lots. We also generated some television of our own to avoid going sir crazy in the studio. It was saved by the dedication of Dilly Gent who diligently went through all the tapes and Chris Bran who edited them together. The Most Gigantic Lying Mouth of all Time -- Something about money, cutbacks, too weird, might scare the children, staV layoVs, shareholders.. you know.. fair enough. It was a shame considering there is a lot of people's hard work here. It sort of got forgoxen about. Until now. So we apologize to everybody who sent us their work..... SORRY IT'S LATE. But now you can watch it when you want, and maybe actually see it properly as well. It contains music from Hail to the chief etc., and all sorts of other suff from us... videos you may not have seen, and unreleased music that isn't out anywhere else. A Thom Yorke, 2nd September 2004.
Customer Reviews:
This was awful..........2006-08-05
I was expecting this DVD to be more on the lines of "7 Radiohead Television Commercials" but the videos were badly transferred and pixelated. But worst of all, most of the music on this DVD are clips--not even the full songs, so you start to get into it and then its over. After each clip, they put a commercial in there for Radiohead TV...they are just awful...The only reason I didnt give this 1 star is because there are a few complete songs on there, but not enough (like 3 though I can't remember the exact #). It's not worth $30+ for 3 songs...
Not what was expected.......2006-01-28
The thought of Radiohead being given the opportunity to make a t.v. show is pretty open ended. None the less, this dvd did take me by surprise. I thought it was great, but i didnt like how videos only used parts of songs. The bonus stuff is great, and the recording process footage is very interesting. But its hard to watch a movie to a song that you know, but have the movie only use part of the song. But it was definately worth the money, and the wait to get here. Any radiohead fan could not complain.
we suck young blood.......2005-04-29
typical radiohead craziness with really cool animation and film shorts that make the viewer feel like they are on drugs, this is not a radiohead live show nor a documentary but rather a collection of segments that were originally on radiohead tv. there is very few band shots except weird interviews and disorted images of radiohead playing. my favorite is the homeland hoedown part, it's genius. if you enjoy things that make you think and like radiohead then you will enjoy the most gigantic lying mouth of all time, if not watch out for pop idol and get your request into trl.
I'm sick of these s**t releases on DVD.......2005-03-19
I JUST WANT A LIVE DVD !!!!
Radiohead is fantastic, extraordinary, different, dark, intense, addictive, magic, confusing, avant garde, experimental, etc. Nothing of that is reflected with these stupid DVD's they have released. This king of DVD just contain lame boring stuff for filling the running Time and to be put on sale.
I do not understand why they do not make an awesome live DVD instead of this kind of s**t. Radiohead is brilliant, but sometimes they are too obstinate and they do not understand - or they do not want to understand - that fans we are not interested in these useless DVD's for TV filled with pointless video commercials and all that bulls**t.
Live Gigs always have been the best thing of Radiohead. There're dozens of complete live performances shared as Pro-Shot DVD bootlegs out there !!!!, but I want an official release !!!.
PLEASE RADIOHEAD
Who Shopped Who?.......2005-02-07
Two words... Freak Juice! Oh, and "free petrol" as well! This DVD is a collection of brilliant work - the videos are extraordinary expressions of the music of Radiohead. It's not a documentary along the lines of "Meeting People is Easy", it's more like "7 Television Commercials" in that it is videos put to Radiohead's work, or video of them performing, and a few funny interviews with band members. There are four "episodes" with introductions by "Chieftan Mews". Episodes 1 - 3 were originally available on the radiohead.tv web site (no longer there), while Episode 4 is an addition for this DVD release.
I love everything on this disc, but some of the highlights and my very favorites include: the two pieces directed by Juan Pablo Etcheverry -"De Tripas Y Corazon" (Where I End And You Begin) [Ep. 2] & "Dog Interface" (Fast Track) [Ep. 4]; "The Cat Girl" (2 + 2 = 5) [Ep. 1]; "The Scream" (No Surprises) [Ep. 2]; "Chickenbomb" [Ep. 4]; and you gotta love the satire of "The Homeland Hoedown" [Ep. 4]!
The crowning achievement, however, has got to be Johnny Hardstaff's Push Pulk / Spinning Plates video [Ep. 3]. In my opinion, it captures the essence of these songs - and it has to be the most disturbing thing you'll see in quite a while.
As a Radiohead fan, it's great to see & hear some of the unreleased & non-album (b-sides etc.) material too. If only they had included that catchy music that used to play online between radiohead.tv episodes (even catchier than "The most Gigantic Theme")... ah well.
Yes, this material might be considered "avant garde" or "weird".... However, it should really get you thinking, and how often do videos and music get you doing that nowadays?
